justice for sam
If the spnepisodebracket craze has shown us anything, it's that the supernatural fanbase is extremely divided, with the lowly sam stan seemingly at the bottom of the pile. sam is always last in polls, so this is a bracket for the 10% or so who always votes for him. because yeah, there's 327 episodes of Supernatural, but how many are popular because of a dean or destiel moment? how many good episodes are drowned out because they focus on sam?
i've chosen, with some crowdsourced peer review (special thanks to @spneveryseason, @suncaptor, and @ambersock!) 125 episodes that are Sam Relevant. Some are extremely sam-centric, some just have a shot where sam looks like he's being crucified that gives me brain worms -- i tried to be generous about it to keep a relatively even seasons distribution! matchups will be random and polls will last 24 hours each. in the tradition of @spnepisodebracket (who this is obviously inspired by and would not be possible without!) i'll try to rb a gifset for every episode in the poll!
a final note: no this is not that serious but the criteria for voting here should be how good the episode is as a SAM episode, not as anything else, so please vote accordingly! i am making this for people who actually enjoy sam and if that is not you, then this is not the poll for you!
with that out of the way, here is the compiled list of episodes! voting starts this sammy sunday, 3/26!

well if you compare 1x12 faith and 2x13 houses of the holy to 5x01 sympathy for the devil in the manner of dean having been "chosen" then you could come away with questions such as: why was dean chosen to live in faith? why did he jump to the front of the line before all the other believers who had been waiting for their turn to be healed?
roy le grange claims that dean was "picked" by god. his method of choosing is never quite revealed, its mechanisms overshadowed by his wife's more insidious schemes. the episode ends on a bitter note: that god is not healing people, and dean's atheism is more correct than sam's faith.
however, this axis begins to flip in 2x13, when dean does concede to the possibility that some cosmic force is moving pieces on a higher plane. the questions that were left unanswered in 1x12 are given proper attention here, and though definitive answers still elude them until season 4-5, the issues are no longer being ignored. and then zachariah tells dean he is chosen, destined to be the michael sword. it recalls, then, the episode so long ago when roy le grange told dean that god "picked" him. and because of that interaction, dean remains alive to fulfill his destiny.
so you have to wonder—was dean's salvation a coincidence, or was a higher power truly whispering in roy's ear? 2x13 makes a strong defense of the latter being true. if an unseen force can tell father gregory who deserves to live and who deserves to die, that same force can equally tell the faith healer speaking the gospel in his tent. and if this is true, if it was god or the angels dictating who roy should save, then that calls into question the moral character of the angels, nearly four seasons before they even appear. if the angels are willingly guiding roy's hand, then they are complicit in the use of reapers to kill those his wife deemed deserving of death. they are complicit or even accepting of her victims, and therefore they are taking a moral stance by not intervening and by enabling the continued abuse of power.
like, surely the angels wouldn't care who is sacrificed to save dean's life, him being michael's vessel, but there are countless others who died as a result of roy's healing. anyway, there's no real point to be made here, but i do like the retroactive reading the show enables that roy truly was guided by the angels or even by god. it sinks dean into the grips of his own destiny far before that destiny is even revealed (first in season 2, then again in season 5) and situates him as a true deuteragonist alongside sam, an egg waiting to be hatched but no less important than sam and his quest. it's just a bit interesting, is all.
#supernatural#spn1.12#spn2.13#spn5.01#spn1#spn2#spn5#spn posting#no big revelations or anything. just something i personally find interesting#angels are dickbags we been knew. and such#mmm dean's angel alignment vs sam's demon alignment is soooo hot 🤤#.txt

re: your tags on that one post abt plotholes in rnm: what are the plotholes that make you lose the most sleep?
(this is my main btw, my rnm blog is @curlyguerin )
Hi! Okay... strap in, because there are a lot of little and big things that wiggle into my thoughts and makes me wonder ...am I the only one who couldn't follow that plotline?
In my opinion RNM suffers more from abandoned narratives and continuity errors than plot holes I guess, since we only have 2 seasons, with at least 2 more to go I guess I can hope they come back to these issues... but: [Under the cut plus some spoilers for season 3]
Things I would like explained :
1. What did Jesse Manes fund with family money in 1x08 ? I'm guessing it was surveillance of the town and the search for more aliens that could have escaped the military in 1947-1948. The idea that Jesse funded Caulfield is just laughable to me, along with how he was able to get his Army-assigned son moved from Germany to New Mexico for 5 years and no one noticed?? Caulfield has to be separate from whatever Jesse was doing in Roswell. Clearly there is still an ACTIVE military project focused on aliens because Flint isn't AWOL, Flint also takes Noah's body to Area 51, so where was Jesse in violation of his orders (Alex's threat to Jesse in 1x08 and then shipping him to Niger)? Surveilling citizens and setting up cameras all over town?
2. Did they ever build an Air Force base on the Fosters Homestead Ranch? (1x01-1x02) ...then it's never mentioned again.
3. I am aware I am the only one who cares about this little bit, but the show seemed to set up a narrative in season 1 about the spotlight Roswell shined white victims of crimes - like Katie and Jasmine, that the town of Roswell holds quite a lot of racism regarding justice- vilifying Rosa for over 10 years, ignoring the deaths of people around Ranchero Night, and then Noah kills Wyatt Long's best friend Hank Gibbons in 1x13. I dunno, I was expecting more from Wyatt in season 2 about this than picking a fight with Michael over Mimi's missing persons sheet and showing up with a crossbow in 2x04. And like, there was a theme of people going missing in season 2!! Mimi, Jenna, the weird twins from 2x06, Charlie -- but yet, no closer scrutiny by Sheriff Valenti other than her focus on Max Evans and the story about Mexico- Like this felt not like a plot hole, but a dropped narrative -- to wrap up the fate of Racist Hank in a missing persons sheet in 2x01. To treat him weirdly like all of Noah's other victims (who were women and men of color and poor), but for a few factors like he was white, he had actual lines in the show over a couple of episodes, and he's one of the few townspeople we learn his first and last name still sticks out in my mind as strange. The Doylist explanation is the actor wasn't available for season 2, but the Watson-perspective of this is just someone the in-show universe doesn't care about ...? Okay. I will keep that in mind, and try to ignore the fact that the town of Roswell swings wildly back to caring about white victims again in 2x13 with Jesse Manes.
4. The Alighting from 1x13 - just how far away was it from happening? Noah was ready to stick a sheriff's deputy, the town event planner and Michael (who probably would be been the only one to go missing without much fanfare, except maybe by Alex) into a pod...for how long? Months? Years? What was his endgame? how did he expect to go unnoticed by the town while he waited for his alien salvation/alien UBER to arrive? Could he just mindwarp everyone into forgetting about the pod squad? Since we didn't see any alien ships show up in the six months from 1x13 to 2x13, and no further follow up by any of our heroes about what Noah was babbling about... I'm going to say this should come back into play for season 3, otherwise it's the most egregious plot hole from season 1.
5. Why did Flint want to work with Helena? Jesse had this master plan that Helena knew all about apparently but she never shares the plan with Flint? Jesse never shares this plan with Flint either? Why? As far as I can tell from the plot of season 2, Jesse takes the console piece from Alex, he was going to kill Alex to keep him out of the way, use the console to blow up civilians, he created a paper trail that pointed the finger at Max, and then when everyone knew the truth about aliens, he was going to use HIS atomizer bomb to release the toxin that Charlie had already developed for Project Shepherd to kill all the aliens.... WHY would Flint want to stop that, especially since they fight in 2x11 over how slow Jesse was moving in his plans? Other than objecting to killing Alex, why would Flint turn Alex over to Helena to blackmail Michael into building a second atomizer bomb? He should have just kept Alex out of the way until it was all over and let Jesse proceed with his plans. Flint's desire to work with Helena Ortecho remains a plot hole to me, that is explained in the most flimsy way of he thinks his dad isn't serious about killing all the aliens even though he has the means? And if he takes Alex from Jesse's control so easily, why not steal the bomb Jesse had too?
6. These are more gripes about continuity, not really plot holes, but the fact we have this loose timeline of events but it doesn't match the weather of filming.... Like Heather Hemmens looked so gorgeous in that little silk outfit in 2x01, but she's wandering outside in Dec in Roswell New Mexico looking like that. I get that it was filmed in August/Sept of 2019 but come on... so my main frustration is I have no idea what season and month is supposed to be on screen. Universe timeline says Winter but filming schedule meant it was early fall with still having the heat of summer there...then the show ends in May/June in the universe, but we all know RNM wrapped in Dec 2019/Jan 2020 so they are all bundled up in winter again.
7. Also on continuity, small things like Rosa's birthday being wrong, the fact her astrological sign isn't Pieces for either date, openly letting Greg Manes see Rosa, not seeming to care that Liz's ex-fiance hears that Rosa is alive - like i'm sure her "dead" sister came up in conversation between Liz/Diego
- the show gives us this beautiful conversation with Michael sharing his background with Alex in 1x10, but then Alex completely forgets it in 2x04 by dropping some line like "this is what you do with family" when Michael expresses confusion about a height chart. Also, on the same note- the jabs about the Library being a dive bar, also felt like a drop in continuity because Alex knows that Michael just lost his mom (1x12) , the government IS studying aliens, and his brother is in a pod, so like, he has some very valid reasons to drink if that's what he wanted to do with in his life in early season 2!! but, also he knows Michael is a genius??
- Why Alex never mentions Rosa, Isobel's blackouts/why Michael gave up UNM, or even hint about what happened with his dad in the shed during his conversation with Maria in 2x05 is also beyond bizarre to me. It was an "information" dump conversation that Alex still doesn't share all the information he has about a situation and just ends up looking kind of judgmental in my opinion.
- the truck conversation in 2x06 between Maria and Alex, why Maria prompts a girl's name when Alex says he's never been in a real relationship INSTEAD of addressing the very real elephant in the room, Michael Guerin, that they had a conversation about in 2x05- also feels like a gap in continuity.
8. Science wise- the pathogen that Charlie developed? It was supposed to be so specific that it could kill a leader of Al Quada and all of their direct descendants but leave the rest of the population unharmed. [Which um, that's a war crime, but whatever!] How was Maria affected? the DNA they had at Caulfield to develop it - like, Maria was descended from Louise and Louise lived free. The only person that pathogen SHOULD have affected was Michael (if they used Nora to base it on) Unless you're telling me that there's some protein in "alien dna" that is so specific to aliens, that no other human shares it, but also so completely undetectable that Kyle couldn't find it in Maria's blood... ? I suppose it's possible. I hope we get more explanation about that in season 3. It makes me wonder why Caulfield/Project Shepherd ever let Patty Harris go after she volunteered for some study then, and remained content to just pay her medical bills through a fake insurance company? [But also didn't flag Mimi and all the doctors that Maria took her to???]
9. Michael's hand. I'm going to reserve judgment about this, because some of my salt on this is based on season 3 promo pictures, but I really thought that moment in 2x13 when he takes off his hat, while Alex is singing, you see him without the wrapping on his hand, that maybe he found some peace with Jesse dead and demolishing the shed with Alex. But then it looks like the hand-danna is all over season 3, right up until the finale of season 3, so... was that a mistake in wardrobe AND not a beautiful moment of character growth??? I wish I could extend some grace to RNM about that, but alas... see above for why I have trust issues.
10. Perhaps I wasn't watching season 1 closely, but I thought Noah's madness was brought on by the fact he was stuck in his pod? That it was "lower class travel accommodations" and Isobel's scream at 13 got his attention? I assumed that he stayed in the pod, possessing Isobel on and off, right up until he used her body to kill Rosa in 2008, absorbing enough power to break out. So how did Noah find Jim Valenti so quickly? If it was through Isobel's memories, then why did Jim not immediately have Noah, some random alien approaching him about his recently dead daughter, hauled off to Caulfield? Jim pays $1,000 for Rosa's body, putting her in a pod [Noah's broken pod??] and stores her, waiting for...something? An alien to come along to bring her back. So did Jim know about The Savior? Why would Jim work with Noah and vice versa? Again, I'm hoping we get more about this in season 3.
11. Was there a point of keeping Alex in the Air Force? He arranges a place for them to work on bringing Max back, but I feel like anyone could have done that? Like Isobel had money, she could have rented a storage facility. All of the equipment was borrowed from the hospital, not the military. The information about 1947-1948 was from the drives decoded from Caulfield or the AAR report left by Flint in the Project Shepherd bunker (which again was decommissioned, not an active military installation). I could support the decision if it had provided some richness to the plot or some conflict within the character, neither of which really happened. Alex hacking the government and going undercover in the Air Force to protect Michael is basically fanon. I love that fanon, but alas...
12. Finally, the time jump. What year are we jumping into? 2020? 2021? Why does it make me think none of those questions above will be answered.
#rnm thoughts#season 3 thoughts#very long post#season 2 had tons of important conversations happen off screen#and tons of ooc conversations happen on screen#hopefully that changes in season 3

2x13: Houses of the Holy
Providence, Rhode Island
A woman sits in the dark, smoking cigarettes, and watching TV.
The lights start to flicker and the television flickers back to an evangelical preaching. Her house starts shaking and her angel statues start falling. There’s suddenly a bright light and the woman watches it in awe.
Sam Winchester, decked out in white scrubs, greets his patient, Gloria. Sam wants to talk to her about what she saw that night. Gloria tells him that she stabbed a man in the heart “because it was God’s will.” Sam wants to know if God talked to her (too busy fucking with your life, Sam) but she says no and that an angel came to her. The angel told her that the man she stabbed was guilty. She needed no other proof to do it.
Sam later finds Dean enjoying some music and magic fingers.
Dean’s on lockdown because he robbed a bank in Milwaukee. They discuss the case. It really seems that Gloria is just a religious nutjob. And Sam would agree if she wasn’t the second person in town to have murdered someone because an angel told them to. “Supernatural maybe. But angels? I don't think so,” Dean insists. BLESS.
They then have a very fun conversation about how unicorns don’t exist (And Truly, BLESS Andrew Dabb. This dude took this one off joke and made it reality.) In any event, Dean firmly doesn’t believe in angels. (In a far off voice I hear: This is your problem, Dean. You have no faith.)
Once they stop arguing about angels, they decide to check out the victim, Carl’s place. They head to the basement to see what secrets he had hidden.
Sam finds scratch marks on the wall. On a closer inspection, he also finds a fingernail. They start digging up the dirt floor and find a skeleton.
In a lonely apartment, a man lays on his bed, drinking himself to oblivion. His lights start flickering and the room starts shaking. Suddenly there’s a bright light.
Cut to the man, Zach, walking to another house and stabbing a dude right in the gut.
Dean’s listening to the police scanner when Sam walks back to the motel room with food. He also has news that three people disappeared from the library where Carl worked. Dean has other news --the not-angel struck again.
They head out to the victim’s house and sneak inside. Sam hacks into the dude’s computer and Dean browses his catalog collection. Sam finds locked emails that turn out to be to an underage girl.
Dean is baffled by this spirit or demon they’re dealing with. Sam points out it’s like an avenging angel. Oh, Sam, if you only knew angels are dicks. Dean connects the two victims --they both go to the same church.
They meet with the priest posing as new parishioners. They discuss this whole angel crap but the priest is a believer (obv.) and talks openly with Sam about what angels are thought to be like. They look at a painting of Michael, the archangel, while the priest describes his belief that they’re “more loving, than wrathful.”
As they’re leaving, Dean notices a memorial on the steps of the church. It’s for Father Gregory, who was shot there two months prior in a carjacking. Dean thinks they’re dealing with a vengeful spirit, but Sam still humors the angel aspect of it all. Dean knows that Sam prays everyday (and I sit weeping in the corner, thinking of Purgatory.)
An angel statue begins to quake. Sam looks at it with curiosity, only to be overtaken by awe as bright light suffuses the room. He passes out.
“I saw an angel,” Sam gasps to his brother later. He reports that the angel spoke to him and told him to kill a man. The kicker is, the doomed guy on Sam’s hit list hasn’t actually committed any crime...yet. Dean’s unimpressed by Sam “Minority Report” Winchester’s insistence that he’s been chosen by the angels and God for this mission. I give Dean a high five, then methodically throw rocks through every single one of my windows as I think about the next thirteen seasons.
Their mom used to tell them every night that angels were watching over them. “She was wrong,” Dean says bitterly, “There’s no higher power. There’s no God. There’s just chaos. Violence. Random unpredictable evil that comes outta nowhere. Rips you to shreds. You want me to believe in this stuff? I’m gonna need to see some hard proof.” (I gallantly resist making a dirty joke about Castiel’s “hard proof.”)
Ahem. Anyway, Dean’s solid on the ghost theory. At the priest’s crypt they find wormwood growing - it’s a sign of a restless spirit. LOLLLL early seasons. Sam agrees to hold a seance.
They head out of a corner grocery a little while later, stocked with SpongeBob mats and candles for the seance, when Sam sees THE SIGN. Light glows around his mark - the guy he’s supposed to kill. While Ace of Base plays in my head, Sam makes a move to kill - er, stop - the ghost-tagged perp. Looking to forestall Sam’s murder-to-be, Dean tells Sam to run the seance and tails Sam’s suspect on his own. Dean watches the guy pick up a date, and then they’re off again.
Meanwhile, Sam’s obediently running the seance.
The priest appears in the crypt, horrified to see what looks like THE VERY DEVIL WORSHIP taking place. “I can explain,” Sam says before utterly failing to explain anything. And then light fills the room. The priest wonders if it’s an angel, but Sam sorrowfully notes that it’s only Father Gregory’s ghost.
The glowing angelic vision suddenly distills into a normal human figure. Father Gregory wonders why Sam isn’t killing his marked man. After all, he’s an angel and he commanded it! Sam glumly explains that NO, Father Gregory is just a normal ectoplasm-slinging ghost.
Dean loses the trail of the marked man, while Father Gregory explains that his kill orders are redemption for the killers and every one of his marks is guilty. “This is vengeance. This is wrong,” the older priest declares and I look VERY HARD at the rest of the show.
Meanwhile, the guy Dean was tailing parks his car in an abandoned alley and attempts to attack his date. JAB HIM IN THE EYEBALLS, LADY! Dean bashes his head in just in time and saves the date. The guy drives off and Dean follows quickly on his tail.
The old priest offers last rites to Father Gregory, who begins to flicker.
Sam watches in full puppy eyed mode as Father Gregory disappears, presumably to high five ghosts in Heaven.
Dean chases the Bad Guy through the streets until a truck pulls out in front of Bad Guy’s car. A metal pole bounces off the truck, pierces the windshield, and impales the guy right in the chest.
Later, Sam morosely packs his bag back at the motel.
For What the Fuck is this Motel Room Design Science:
Sam’s sad that there wasn’t an angel watching out for people on Earth. Dean pulls out his flask, takes a big swig, and promises to watch out for Sam. “You’re just one person,” Sam tells him. He’d hoped there was a higher power guiding their lives. One who’d grant Sam salvation.
“Knocking on Heaven’s Door” starts to play, while Dean confesses his current emotional state. He proposes that the insane way the Bad Guy died MIGHT have been God’s will. I kick Chuck right in the nuts.
Quakin’ Quotes:
Aw, dammit! That was my last quarter. Hey! You got any quarters?
There's a ton of lore on unicorns too. In fact, I hear that they ride on silver moonbeams and they shoot rainbows out of their ass
You’ve got faith. I’m sure it makes things easier
One of the perks of the job. We don’t need to operate on faith
Men cannot be angels
There’s so much evil in the world, Dean. I feel like I could drown in it.

Hi :) i love reading your meta! You know how in 2x13 sam tells dean that he prays every day? I was wondering if you have any headcanons on what his prayers are about ^^
Oh wow, I'm so sorry for the late reply, anon--this got buried in my inbox! Dunno if you're still around, but it's a good question so I'll give it a shot.
First of all, given the context of that scene--season 2, when Sam is worried about going "dark side"--I definitely think he prays for himself, asking to be good or for the strength to stay good. It's hard for me to imagine him framing it in his prayers as asking for salvation, though--I think Sam would put responsibility on himself for his own salvation. He wouldn't expect to be saved in a passive way; he'd frame it in a way that gives himself more agency ('give me the strength to' rather than 'God save me').
I suspect that that's probably been a theme in Sam's prayers for as long as he's been praying, and I can see him starting at a young age. I think pre-Stanford and Stanford era Sam would also be praying for the strength to carry out his plan to get out. When he was alone at Stanford--especially before Jess but even after meeting her--I think prayer might have been a way of seeking comfort and strength, so far from his family.
Speaking of his family, that's the other thing I think Sam prays about. In fact, I could easily see Sam's prayers starting at a young age specifically for John and Dean. Young Sam, alone in a motel while his dad and brother are on a hunt, praying for their safe return. I think that would be a continuing theme while he was at Stanford--praying for his family to stay safe while he couldn't be there for them. This is different from his prayers for himself; he'd have no hesitation calling on a higher power to directly protect his family, because I think this is an area where Sam has always felt frustratingly powerless himself. He knows he can't keep his dad and especially his brother safe, so he prays all the more fiercely for it. In the pre-Stanford and Stanford era I could easily imagine Sam praying for Dean to get out of the life, too--something he doesn't think possible, but a prayer wouldn't hurt.
When he's back on the road with Dean, by the time we get that line in Houses of the Holy, I think Sam would still keep his brother in his prayers, even though he is there to watch his back himself. I could also imagine him praying for John after he dies, especially once they learn he's in Hell. I think there's a lot Sam doesn't feel he has control over when it comes to those he loves, so he prays for them. There are also parts of himself, especially at this point in canon, that he doesn't feel he has control over, either--his psychic visions and his supposedly evil potential--and those are the parts of himself he prays for. Sam fears his own perceived weaknesses and powerlessness, and his prayers reflect that and perhaps help him overcome that fear.

Supernatural 04x15
Death Takes a Holiday
(Next Episode | Masterlist | Previous Episode)
The dynamic of the brothers in this episode is a clear inverse of 2x13 Houses of the Holy. We’ve seen Sam before believing that there could be miracles and angels, with Dean as the skeptic and we now have the complete opposite:
SAM Locals are saying it's a miracle….It's got to be something nasty, right? I mean, people making deals or something.
DEAN You think?
…
DEAN Eh, maybe it is what the people say it is.
SAM Miracles? Dean, our experience, when do miracles just happen?.
They’ve completely swapped positions on the likelihood of miracles. For Dean, he didn’t believe in miracles before because he had never experienced one, but now that he has literally been dragged out of Hell by an angel he is less likely to question them. For him it’s still based on personal experience and hard proof. Sam had faith in God before because he wanted to believe he could be saved, he wanted to believe that there was a higher power who could care about him. But … I don’t think he’s hoping for salvation anymore. This episode shows that he’s given up hope for a normal life, and I think he’s given up hope for a lot of things he used to believe he could have.
This episode marks an important part of Sam’s character arc. His whole life he has wanted to be normal, but in this episode, he seems kind of exasperated and even angry at Dean for pretending that they are, or ever could be, normal.
SAM Look, I don't want them to die, either, Dean, but there's a natural order.
DEAN You're kidding, right? … You don't see the irony in that? I mean, you and me, we're like the poster boys of the unnatural order. All we do is ditch death.
SAM Yeah, but the normal rules don't really apply to us, do they?
DEAN We're no different than anybody else.
SAM I'm infected with demon blood. You've been to hell. Look, I know you want to think of yourself as Joe the Plumber, Dean, but you're not. Neither am I. The sooner you accept that, the better off you're gonna be.
It’s not just Sam’s faith in God that’s faltering this season, it’s his faith in … everything? He has lost faith in Dean, he’s lost faith in his dream of a normal life, he’s lost faith … in himself? In 4x12 he decided to lay aside what he wanted “for the greater good” and I think since then he’s given up hope and faith in all the things that used to bring him happiness.
On the other hand, we have Dean, who is trying so hard to have faith, which comes very unnaturally to him, but he still feels like he should.
DEAN Don't get me wrong. I mean, most the [angels] I've met are dicks with wings. But still... You know, I've done things. Horrible things. And someone upstairs still decided to give me a second chance. It just makes me feel...I don't know.
But then Tessa hits him with this ominous line
TESSA Stop lying to yourself, Dean. … “The angels have something good in store for you. A second chance.” Really? 'Cause I'm pretty sure, deep down, you know something nasty's coming down the road. Trust your instincts, Dean. There's no such thing as miracles.
Dean is really pretty vulnerable in this episode in a way that I don’t think we usually see him, he tells Cole that they’re all scared, admitting his own fear in that moment, which we know is a hard thing for him to do. And when he talks to Tessa about his life since he met her … he admits that he wished he had just died at the beginning of season 2. He says things are different now, referencing his new found purpose in life, but that is a shaky foundation. This episode rocks that foundation both because of Tessa’s warning, and because of the obvious apathy of heaven to general human suffering.
With Sam’s loss of faith comes an increased willingness to do things he might have otherwise have considered immoral. It’s an interesting situation we see him in, going to talk to the scared victim, saying that he’ll say “whatever [he] has to.”
This is his normal role within the episodes, honestly. And we know that he has a flexible relationship with the truth, however, we have never seen him straight up lie to someone in such a vulnerable position before.
SAM Hey. What if I told you that if you helped me, you wouldn't have to leave here? Ever?
…
COLE You can do that?
SAM Yeah, you bet I can do that.
COLE You swear?
SAM hesitates.
SAM I swear.
The thing is, it’s not like he and Dean haven’t lied to people before. It’s not like they’ve never appealed to emotion to get people to do what they needed. But this time feels different. It’s such a bald face lie told to such a scared little kid that it feels so utterly wrong. And more than that, so utterly un-Sam-like. This is definitely going against that gentle nature of his.
Then Sam is able to fend off the demon attacking Pamela (Rip Pamela she deserved better. Honestly, I don’t understand why they introduced her just to blind her and kill her off within one season.) Anyway, this shows that he has been drinking demon blood again and Pamela, with her extra special senses, knows what’s up, and warns him:
PAMELA I can feel what's inside of you. If you think you have good intentions, think again.
#Supernatural Rewatch#04x15#4x15#Sam Winchester#Dean Winchester#Faith#Parallels#I'm just trying to track their character arcs#also Cas was in this episode and I love him that's all
