Hi everyone, Shald here with the details. So here's the deal. First off, if you don't know what Steam's user score system is, it basically just averages all the positive and negative reviews a game has to display a "rating". Here's an example from a beloved classic:

This rating obviously makes it easier for customers to see whether a game might be worth checking out at a glance, especially if they're just scrolling through a list of, say, visual novels currently on sale. The problem is that Women of Xal currently has 24 positive reviews on Steam, but only 9 of them are counted towards our user review score.

It seems like Steam doesn't count reviews from people who reviewed the game during Early Access or who didn't directly purchase the game from Steam - which, of course, is the *majority* of our Kickstarter supporters. I don't know how other Kickstarted indie games get around this, or if they ever do.

Which is very infuriating! I mean, look at this! Look at all these wonderful people who took the time to review our little indie game and just get totally ignored by the Valve Overlords. >:U

We need 10 total reviews from people who have purchased the game *directly* from steam in order for the platform to generate our "user score". At this point I genuinely don't even care if someone just reviews the game saying "It bad", I just want to see that score, I'm losing my mind 😂😢 If you've read this far into my late-night ramblings, thank you. As a person who’s never clicked on a pop-up advertising meeting hot singles or anything of the like, I wouldn’t have been able to resist clicking on one of Betelgeuse’s pop-ups. The audio of him from the first film saying, “I’ve got demons runnin’ all through me” was the cherry on top.

ok folks heres the scoop. y'all've got like, 4 days left to pick up Scarlet Hollow before we do a small price increase, so if you're a savings-minded video games player, now's the best time you'll have to pick up our lil narrative horror game for a while.

why should you pick up and play scarlet hollow, you ask?

• people like it (98% positive steam reviews!)

• it has difficult choices with no right answers! your choices also wildly shape other characters and your experience with the story

• it is very sad. (see above difficult choices)

• it has a sense of humor and lot of slice of life content, which makes the sad parts even sadder

• abby's drawn SO much art for it. like there are hundreds of backgrounds and thousands of character sprites

• there's all sorts of characters you can date in it. maybe even... monsters?

• there's SO much replay value. like some folks have HUNDREDS of hours in it on steam.

He needs a booking agent that understands the Asian market better. Asian fans seem to be younger, so less independent money and more dependent on parents. Travel to another country is much more expensive and involved than traveling within Europe. I’m surprised that Wasserman has fumbled this so badly.

I mean this all sounds legit, but what would understanding this change, what can they do? I don't see anything to suggest they don't understand this, probably with loads more detail than we do. It is super clear that the costs of touring Asia are currently just too high for a tour of this size (too big to travel and put on shows cheaply, not big enough to make stadium money to cover that) to actually break even on costs. So doing lots of small shows, as would serve the need you mention, makes the cost per show even MORE, that's not possible; so they tried something else, like can we just do ONE BIG SHOW and maybe people will get to it if it's the only one?? I mean, now we see that didn't work but it was definitely worth a try if the alternative is no Asia shows because of cost- which it pretty clearly is- and I feel like the fact that they bothered is down to Louis hearing the fans and wanting so much to come through. I feel absolutely certain he (AND his team, who have tried so hard to do this in the face of problem after problem) are pretty devastated too, but I can't really see what they could have done differently
