Vicente López y Portaña (Spanish, 1772-1850) Saint Sebastian Tended by Saint Irene, ca.1795-1800 This painting illustrates the Roman widow Irene nursing Saint Sebastian back to health after he was discovered to be a Christian and shot with arrows by Roman archers. Writhing in pain, Saint Sebastian looks heavenward as Saint Irene pulls arrows from his pierced body. Vicente López y Portaña dynamically composed the figure of Sebastian, with one arm tied above his head and his other arm held by an attendant, in order to more clearly display the wounds on his upper body and to allude to the martyrdom of Christ. Sebastian's bent leg reveals the bleeding gash from which Irene has already removed one arrow. As she leans toward Sebastian's knee, she carefully pulls the saint's flesh in order to extract a second arrow. In the foreground, the depiction of the armor and weapons Sebastian wore as a military captain signals that this event occurred in ancient Rome.

Pico Pico Pico!

This is a lil sneak peek into my next sketch board! I said I'd draw @hellishgayliath's oc, Pico and I am :] Been going through their lore 'n stuff and saw that he likes saint bernards! And I thought I'd let him meet an old lady dog, named Irene! Irene use to be a stray dog that lost her leg after being hit by a car, but she survived all on her own. She was loving and caring, but humans never got close enough to rescue her. She had a mate and litter a long while back, but they either got rescued or grew up and left the small pack. She hobbled through life with her three legs until she wounded up in front of Todd's trailer in the woods one rainy evening. Todd, being the saint (ha, get it?) that he is, makes her a robotic leg with the help of Donnie's bots. However, the next day, she escaped out of Todd's supervision and only came back when she didn't know where she was and was hungry. She keeps to herself, but enjoys keeping watch over the pups around the place :]

Missed my old MCD OC Diane ft our fav emo goth priest man, Zane. God I'm trying to flesh out the Church within MCD and it's been SO difficult aaaaaaaaaaughghghghghg x-x Anyways, playing around with how church officials look within the Church of Irene, specifically important members of the Church. Diane is one of Zane's apprentices who's going around the land, spreading Irene's doctrine and trying to get villages to join O'Khasis.
