sometimes when you read manga or stories, you feel a certain way and you read lines and they hit hard and close to home because you thought of the same things and you wish that someone would have responded to you the way that that character comforted the other because it would make you feel like so much more than what you are right now
and reading my girl by sahara mizu was that experience god knows how old that manga is and yet somehow it is relevant and exactly how im feeling in certain situations its so mundane and still so bursting with the life that i wish was something like mine
i wish that someone encouraged me the same way that the masamune encourages his daughter and i wish someone apologized and talked me the way that masamune does with his daughter
it feels so free to be in that world and in any world made by such an amazing artist and storyteller such as sahara mizu
sorry about the grammar and punctuation sorry

July 2023
Read this month:
Royal Assassin (part 1) by Robin Hobb
If it weren't for the plot with the Red Ship Raiders, I would have given up on Fitz and his behaviour around Molly. I also liked how Kettricken and Patience both went to the Buckkeep castle for a particular reason and found a place over time.
The Tea Dragon Society #1 by K. O'Neill
Tea dragons !
The Cloud Roads, The Books of the Raksura #1 by Martha Wells
I read it to see what Martha Wells had to offer in fantasy. I had a great time discovering the different people of this world, and I get why Moon has been compared to Murderbot.
The sunbird, The Lion Hunters #3 by Elizabeth Wein
As usual, it was beautifully written. Telemakos goes through much pain, as do most of the main characters in this series. At eleven years old, I was curious to see if Telemakos would be as captivating as Medraut with his past in the first book or Goewin and her political role in the second book but he did not disappoint. The ending is stunning.
The Storm of Echoes, The Mirror Visitor Quartet #4 by Christelle Dabos
After a false start, I finally finished the Quartet. It was all very mysterious since the last book in the series, but the investigation of Ophélie and Thorn was moving forward at a good pace. We got to see again Ophélie's and Thorn's families, which was quite delightful. I enjoyed how Christelle Dabos wrapped up the story and somewhat enjoyed the much-criticised ending. In hindsight, the whole plot of the series came as a surprise. I didn't expect it to go as far as what we were offered. I enjoyed the cast of characters a lot, but I feel like they got to a point where it would not add much to have a fifth book.
A Tail's tale #4 by Mizu Sahara
I fell in love with the drawing style of Mizu Sahara a long time ago. This final volume in the series ended beautifully, and I am happy to see how the characters changed from their teenage years to now.
Spy x Family #3 by Tatsuya Endo
Still enjoying it a lot. I am waiting to borrow the rest from the library.
Yona of the dawn #14-19 by Kusanagi Mizuko
I thoroughly appreciate the story with the small touches of humour amidst some spectacular moments. There is not much else to say, but I would definitely recommend this manga to anyone wanting to have fun with some travelers while witnessing how they choose to protect their country's population and borders.
Hana Yori Dango #9-15 by Yoko Kamio
It did not age well, but it still feels nostalgic.

I promised @sevencolouredworld / @sumomoyumekalibrary photos of the (recent) French publication of Okashiratsuki about a week ago, so here they are! :D
To anyone not familiar with the manga, here’s an excerpt from my upcoming site:
Sahara’s latest series, Okashiratsuki (2018), brings out the recurring themes in her works best: The protagonist cannot acquire a tan, no matter how many hours she puts into outdoor sports, and so the people around her assume she doesn’t do sports, doesn’t go outside, doesn’t give her best. Understandably, she wants to acquire a tan to fit in with her peers, a wish that translates to: I want people to see the effort I put in, and to see me for who I am; I want what makes me me to be plainly visible, to leave no space for misassumption.
The male lead, on the other hand, has a pig tail that is literally depicted in the manga, but is otherwise an obvious allegory for a non-conforming trait, a difference that may be harmless, but is stigmatized. By depicting that trait playfully, yet treating the subject matter in all seriousness, Okashiratsuki is a powerful open narrative that pleads for more tolerance and genuine understanding in matters of disability, mental illness, disorders, sexual orientation, gender identity, body image and further.
Noeve Grafx is a relatively new publisher on the French manga market, but the attention to detail and care they put into their publications makes any volume a true delight and real treat. The dust jacket and undercover design is standard in French manga publication; the obi (the strip of paper around the volumes), however, is not. (All three are standard in the original Japanese publications, if I’m not mistaken.) The collector’s cards are in Noeve Grafx’ own design and come with each volume that they publish.
I really love what kind of content (visual and textual) the publisher decided to feature on the obi and cards, especially since I rarely see this kind of playful, artistic and poetic quality in bonus material! (E.g. in the German market, they tend to be more gaudy.)
Translations of the bonus material under the cut.
Volume 1
Obi (front): And what if, before being recognized by others, we started by accepting ourselves? Mizu Sahara returns with an ode to tolerance and difference!
Obi (back): A work to put in everyone’s hands!
Back cover: It all started with a pig’s tail. This is the story of a miracle that we experienced, the story of the unforgettable days spent together, he and I.
Collector’s card: Nachi Hiyama — “I want to be accepted as I am.”
Publisher’s paper slip: Thank you for having bought the first volume of “A Tail’s Tale”! You’ll see, it is very beautiful!
Volume 2
Obi (front): After the innocence of childhood come the torments of adolescence!
Obi (back): An evolving story with an ever-powerful message!
Back cover: The weird ones who see the good in what we hate about ourselves are the strongest.
Collector’s card: Nachi Hiyama & Kaisei Utsumi — “My name was on there! For the very first time!” “Really? That’s amazing!”
