one goddamn bitch of an unsatisfactory situation when u start to suspect that that one asshat of a person who left the band was actually the one begind all the creativity in their music and without him it became so fucking boring uninspired done-millions-times-before u can't even listen to it more than once anymore

#sorry it's apparently time for my bi-yearly modern owl city rant #the ultraviolet ep truly feels like the last thing he put his heart into #it just felt so unique and new and different. i was soooo excited for the direction he was taking #was listening to pre-2015 music of his and like. god what happened #mobile orchestra wasn't *terrible* but it felt so ... lifeless. so... burned out. like i personally wouldn't even call it a good album.#cinematic was better but still ... eh. it gave me hope at least.#coco moon imploded that hope. is he a youth pastor now??? it's fine if he is but like ... that was like veggie tales: the album #at least he sounded like he was actually enjoying himself. but god every song was the same corny structure #kelly time would've been fine if it was the only song like that!! but they all ended with the same addressing the audience #with 'so you see life is cool and you should enjoy it and the lessons it teaches' i just. adam how did we get here #well actually the closer was fine bc it was a totally normal love song to his partner. thank god it had one song that didn't do that #and the religious songs are so... on the nose now. what happened to angels... galaxies... meteor shower... kamikaze.... i still adore those #it's funny that bastille are now doing the same concept of an album but WAYYYY better. god i can't wait for the full '&' release #alright i think rant over. anyway #sorry one last thing. in my heart i knew it was joever when the one song from ultraviolet that made it to the next album #was the one Sad Inspirational life goes on we just have to accept it and learn from it. there's a certain quality the harmonies of like... early to mid 2000s alt rock has. which i am obsessed with... like i wanna do that. i NEED to figure out how to write harmonies that sound like that

#ari opinion hour #i sort of understand it but not necessarily well enough to do it on command #i think i sort of achieved the sound of it with my blaseball winter exchange song i did for snow but specifically only in the very last bit #like only with the 'im not alive anymore' part #(which sidenote i wish id had the second half faster + w more drive but its not like that was like a full recording which i could do)#i think i just need my music to have more teeth in general cause it scratches an itch that i think i must have developed due to some aspect #of music school. its probably my dissatisfaction with the attitudes in the classical world #<- which understand i say that in the same way that like my jazz prof does. the classical world doesnt have enough teeth nor enough #understanding of the way in which music is like. another art. and art needs to be able to have teeth and use elements normally regarded as #''undesirable'' on purpose because art is there to make you feel emotions and not just the positive ones and not just sadness or anger in #terms of the negative ones #art is there to make u feel ALL extant emotions and that includes boredom disgust fear jealousy pity cowardice apathy overwhelmedness etc #also the classical world i find often forgets what the word ''play'' means #i am of the opinion that perfection is a waste of time if i wanted perfect i'd ask a computer to do it for me. i want real #anyway. i forgot what this post was even about lol point is i need to figure out how to write harmonies that have that soaring quality that #like. you can hear it in like helena by mcr and wake me up by evanescence and stuff. and frankly most of the songs on three cheers for swee #revenge which i am listening to now for the first time. i need to learn more about this stuff maybe ill listen to the evanescence album tha #song is from next.#or something i should really be working on my essay but theres no way i wont have it done in time which is good i think i just mostly have #to worry about sources and stuff but even that should be relatively easy i think

am finally back home and can say without a doubt that i am just fundamentally not built for long distance travel however the train was much nicer than planes

#that being said. pressurized cabins drive me insane a little bit #and also it gives you pretty intense sea legs for a While #like. the ones from the first trip hadnt gone away by the return one. so. might be stuck with that for a few days #we shall see #also ajr live fucks severely #the albums were already incredible but that was a goddamn religious experience #like. idk the way i think abt it is theyre more djs than a regular band esp w their performance showing the making of way less sad #like their music is very electronic‚ theyre making mixes of their own sound effects more than singing in one go #so like. the vocals were a teeensy bit rough at times #notably times it has taken me Literally Hundreds Of Hours Practice to be able to consistently sing along with #and times ive found its literally physically impossible to like. no matter what #idc how big your lungs are‚ there is no human on earth who can do that final run of karma in one breath #much less to An Entire Stadium After An Hour Of Jumping And Dancing And Singing Loud As Fuck #so like i dont blame them for that‚ you dont go to live shows expecting it to be 100% perfect anyways jwbdjsbfksb #the trumpet however. well she was certainly playing sometimes. and was very enthusiastic about her flares.#however. in most of their songs they use midi trumpets to my ear at least #meaning she was likely an addition specifically for live performances and in my personal band kid opinion #prooobably was not in any of the like. higher tier bands? idk just. a lot of the mistakes she was making were hitting as stuff that got #taught out of us the instant we joined any band beyond regular concert #so i would guess she was probably just like. a friend who happened to play trumpet in high school or maybe even just middle school #and they knew that the trumpet parts in their pieces were big and distinct enough that like they /had/ to get a live player #and just kinda. didnt anticipate the audition -> performance gap #like. her tone was really fried the whole time like she was playing as hard as possible #which. she was mic'd. have the sound guy turn her up.#the way they did it made it sound like she was using a mute but not. like she only got the bad parts of a mute from it yknow #her tempo and timing were. bad. theres no nice way to put that one it just Was Bad�� like the trumpet runs in ajr songs arent. complicated #like. quite literally if you handed me the sheet music right now i would have it down perfect in a week at absolute most #and better than that player on sightread. like. we did so many sightreading drills.#like ill share my band kid creds if anyone cares but i need to emphasize this isnt me being braggy like. they genuinely just arent hard #fuck im out of tags. w/e i think only like one of yall also listens to them anyways so i can leave it there

#im already so fucking obsessed with this album oh my god. everyone shut up right now #god it really is like ycgma's sister. similar yet different #differences in sound; differences in flavor of sadness #something that is in this album all throughout that wasnt in ycgma that i LOVEEEEEEEE is the use of like. a synth i think????#i dont know but the like ''beeping'' kind of noises. they sound just like how los campesinos uses them and it makes me SO HAPPY #bcuz thats always been one of my favorite elements of their songs and they make me go crazy. so hearing them here... ARHHRGHRGH #theres just something about the simple acoustic guitar with the little beeps that i love so fucking much #as of this first listening my initial favorites are amazon standing lamp; around the pomegranate; and glass chalet #also dropshipped cat shirt suddenly devolving into breakcore caught me SO off guard. but i love it #also can i say that around the pomegranate ending with the lyric ''find my comfort in envisioning the end'' and the very next song #being called ''i don't think it will ever end'' .#i was in shambles #serena.txt #ALSO ALSO. the fact that every single one of the songs fades into each other is so good #a lot of times with albums only like one or some of the songs will have a clean transition like that #so i really love the fact that with this one the ENTIRE album flows between songs #also i don't think it will ever end gave me jack stauber vibes with the pitched up voices and stuff
