Maybe because he already had spent 40 years in the apocalypse alone and didn't want to do it all over again. This time he was with someone, so that also makes a difference. He's probably reliving a lot of trauma and is still exhausted of everything he went through. You think you would keep fighting hard if you had to survive an apocalypse AGAIN, not knowing when you'll see everyone again???

I’m watching the last episode and why isn’t five, someone who’s like,,,whole thing is keeping his family together and safe, not excited at all to see his siblings after 7 years. Even before he starts a fight there’s no hugs, no smiles, no excitement. He barely even looks at them.

I will say one of the funniest things ever is that I was figuring Callum to be less devotional than canon has actually made him in arc 2, purely because I always figured that if Rayla kept pulling her self sacrificial bullshit (see numerous instances in s4) Callum would eventually be like "I can't do/love you like this anymore" and leave out of self preservation, and then 4x09's "I know" came along and said no, he would never actually leave her over this, and that's fucking insane to me but I love that for him
