What is a song that reminds you of your OC?
Oooooh i love this ask! Lemme just yank up some playlist material here 👀 I’m not sure if this is what you meant, but we rolling with it lol. FULL disclaimer. I have a CRAP TON of ocs. Many i write with friends and then I have a few for my personal indulgences. So this is a loaded question LOL i love it. These are the ones i mainly have posted about, hope you enjoy!!!
🐺MORGUE (Skyrim oc)🐺
She’s a revamp of another wolf oc of mine from back in the day. A gothic soul with a soft, soft heart, she builds these walls in hopes to keep herself safe. In my world, she made a pact with the werewolf Companions, through trials and hard battles much later she earns the title of Harbinger. She and Farkas bond deeper than the other wolves. Becoming soul bonded. Together they travel over all of Skyrim defeating foes and adopting stray pups along the way.
Romance song:
I Wont Say (im in love) with Susan Egan, Cheryl Freeman, LaChanze, Vanese Thomas, Lillias White, Disney version
Battle music (self explanatory):
Song of the Vikings (my mother told me) by Perly I Lotry
Over all vibe:
Ivar’s Revenge (danish viking music) by Danheim
🚬CROSS (red dead oc) 🚬
Cross is a gunslinger, broody old man that hides behind some toxic masculinity but he is severely traumatized™️ He has a rough start and deals with the bed he’s made from his poor choices. There’s really no telling if he could ever find peace within himself. He’s also in love with Grace.
Romance song:
pay no rent by Turnpike Troubadours
Hit man song:
Oh Darlin’ what have i done by the white buffalo
Over all vibe:
Bury me not on the prairie by Johnny cash
🌻Grace🌻
Grace is a middle aged rancher, had a lot of loss but is optimistic on keeping her family legend going. She found Cross hidden in her barn after he had ran in from bounty hunters/the law. She didn’t need his help but he was handy when bandits came around. They fall in love after a lengthy time.
Romance song:
Gas station flowers by Zandi Holup
Rancher montage:
Keep the Wolves Away by Uncle Lucius
Over all vibe:
Chewing on fire by Dayton Farley
⭐️Astreae (Lotr oc)⭐️
Oooooh i love this oc. She’s grown dear to me even more now that I’m revamping her as I learn about her. She’s an oc insert into Lord of the Rings to pair with Boromir, I should draw more of this lovely queen and the story i envision for her with Boromir. It’s tragedy and intense, i love their story.
Romance song: Home by Catie Turner
Random songs for vibes:
Queen of Peace by Florence and the machine
Eleanor Rigby by Cody Fry
Willow Tree March by The Paper Kites
The Flower Garden by Joe Hisaishi
Sing to me while I sleep by Sandy Sunday
Thanks for asking! ;o; this was really fun to dig through these oc’s playlists. Hopefully this helps tell a bit more about them, I’ll definitely include the titles if I ever get around to making a sheets for them lol if there’s an oc i missed that you wanted to know specifically about, just ask! :]

im at that stage of fatigue from the day where i’m so tired the fanfiction is writing itself in my mind theough dialogue but i’m too insanely tired to sit down and write it all out and i work a shift in the morning too so i dont even have time ... so ill forget everything come morning
[[MORE]]
psych, ima try to outline it rn
this is after a little sacrifice and also after season of storms and takes place in cidaris (im not clear on if kerack is the capital so season of storms dealt with the proper king of cidaris or if it was just a local kingship but im hcing that cidaris is also a capital city as well as the region/nation).
this is geralt and dandelion going to the grape festival mentioned in a little sacrifice btw
main goal for this is to basically give dandelion more depth and address his identity issues and backstory and just how his character is in general
valdo marx (as far as i am headcanoning in terms of appearance right now) is of course , also a twink and they have similar builds but valdo isnt as skinny as dandelion because he has access to three full meals every day. he has dark brown hair and green eyes, and i might give him the same hair and beard as dandelion from tw3 just to spite cdpr. he used to sport green/purple doublets as an independent artist, but now as the reaident troubadour of cidaris, he’s adopted their emblatic colors (blue and white) and wears a doublet with a sash of these colors. he doesn’t have poofy sleeves, instead he has these ruffs and like... bellbottom sleeves. also this method of embellishing clothes that i learned from a glamour video (it’s @ 4:30ish) called slashing is applicable to his outfits. i think he veers away from tights unlike dandelion, so he wears more breeches than anything. he doesn’t have detailed embroidery like dandelion, but rather patterned/quilted areas with silver and some small pearls added for decoration in these sections as well.
so geralt and valdo have to be placed together somehow in a conversation. basically he wants to #expose dandelion for being a fraud... but he’s not doing it out of Pure Evil, he’s (vaguely) kind of like the lodge of sorceresses in which it’s like, he is only wanting things to be done his way because really he thinks it’s the best way to do things. he’s really a victim of academia, he would be someone that supports the fact that instruments are like $1,000 each.
basically he and dandelion were classmates at oxenfurt and at first hit it off very well and shared notes and thoughts and sexual partners and all was splendid. but they got competitive and valdo HATES that dandelion does NOT come from a family known for music or any kind of art. basically dandelion is a novus homo, but in the world of music, and valdo comes from an established family which has been musically inclined for generations. he feels that ppl like dandelion just wanna go to oxenfurt for shits and giggles and dont take this opportunity seriously because theyre too blinded by their own arrogance to actually learn anything. and he may be right in regards to a lot of other children of wealthy noble families that attend oxenfurt. but dandelion’s case was different and this he does not like to admit. also he hates how dandelion is... inclined to... a life of debauchery... because he feels he perpetuates stereotypes of artists being good for nothing penniless drunkards and lechers, and makes it harder for Real Professionals from Actual Lineage to get a job. also he has a disdain for how dandelion really wanted to travel and admired the “musicians of the world” that never attended some fancy college, and again valdo sees this as him not appreciating the opportunity he was given, because all you ever need to interact with is this little 1 mile by 1 mile square of oxenfurt, and not even the whole city, just the college. also when valdo tells all this to geralt he goes give him a judgemental up and down look like... “julian loves meeting, writing about, and... ahem... fraternizing with... all kinds of ... people.” (he was gonna say “trash,” but geralt has swords and cats eyes, so valdo swallowed that last word). ALSO ALSO valdo thinks dandelion is further destroying the sanctity of academic places like oxenfurt by training good for nothings from other nobody families, like essi daven, who was actually from a noble family but one not too rich because it was kind of distant from the ruling family. and since she threw a fit they let her do her own thing instead of marrying her off.
also valdo is like “julian— ahem, ... ‘dandelion,’ as you know him... i don’t know why he uses that absurd little nickname,” because he just finds the idea of a pseudonym stupid (since hes from a famous musical family of course he wants to highlight his lineage). and again he dislikes how dandelion is Corrupting Others by not only mentoring essi at oxenfurt, but training her in an “unorthodox fashion,” ie they just duet and talk shit about random stuff and he advises her weird things like “get a cool fake name so all the girls have something to scream as you go on stage”
as they interact with each other, valdo and dandelion actually are kind of opposite of dandelion and essi. they dont throw ANY snide remarks and keep it all under wraps with just pleased smiles and then as soon as theyre out of earshot (a long way for bards) theyre like “i am going to take the replacement strings of my lute and choke the lights out of that tone-deaf idiot” ... geralt is like 😳 to see aggression in dandelion and hes a bit intimidated at first but then is like Bro Are you Fucking Okay ????? Because its so unnatural for dandelion to be Actually Upset about something and not be ok within half a day
scene where dandelion is staring at the mirror and geralt is like you have been staring at the mirror for a long time, even by your standards... dandelion is like “i have to change something... geralt, look at me. look at me. (says it again bc geralt didnt look up the first time). if you could change one thing about my face, what would it be?” and geralts obviously like “nothing.” and dandelions like dont be fucking difficult just tell me i need to know i need your opinion and geralt is like that IS my opinion i sincerely like your face the way it is. something something blah blah blah tenderness geralt says smth like dandelion you have a lot of loyal fans okay...... and hes trying to refer to himself but he doesnt wanna say it aloud
i think something about dandelion talking about who he was (basically referring to “julian” in the 3rd person) and just very uncharacteristically self-loathing but them he pops back into his little arrogant self ... basically he covers that everyone Fucking Laughed at him for wanting to sing but he did it and now he’s the best and also, sexy. in this whole scene (same scene as last bullet point) he is also saying that he needs to “prove himself” and geralt is just like What More Can You Do, You Are Literally Famous... but dandelion is just pensive about it
also he says something like “theres two versions of me... julian with a dream who nobody knows, and dandelion who’s famous and loved.” and geralts like “theres three.” “three?” “there’s also dandelion, the one i know, who, it doesn’t matter if he’s famous or what, because i just like him and enjoy his company.” BECAUSE i dont know how not to be blunt and not hit my readers over the head with what i wanted to get across. geralt is a blunt man however so i think its acceptable to do this
basically this fic is “dandelion can have little a OOCness for character development”
tbh its not too ooc (hopefully) bc hes not like downright depressed, hes just pensive, like he is when hes trying to think of a good title or rhymes and nothing is working. nothing is working! hes frustrated!!!
i have nooooo idea how to resolve this conflict ive introduced. i think valdo and dandelion have to sing a duet together and it is like skating on thin ice with sharks underneath . MAYBE valdo gets possessed by,, something? not a demon bc IVE HAD ENOUGH GOETIA AFTER SEASON OF STORMS but you know An Entity, and dandelion is like wow this is an improvement!! and geralts like no it isnt, now i have to exorcise this fucker
also throughout this i think that the king and queen of cidaris (maintaining that kerack isnt the capital and is just another kingship within the nation) looooveveeveveeee dandelion and his presence and are like oh dandelion you are always welcome in our court :) which also totally pisses valdo off because its like dandelion came into his work/home and fucked both of his bosses and is trying to steal their loyalty through Sexual Appeal. which. may ring true. but dandelion does stuff for fun and not for manipulation soooo valdo is a little wrong in thinking dandelion is manipulating them. and this also adds to valdos resentment of dandelion for being so promiscuous and also writing about his love affairs bc he feels it detracts from The Art...
basically this fic is also me telling academia and ppl who feel art should be limited to a certain crowd to go stuff it cause no one cares and creativity and learning is only human of anyone. also an excuse to give dandelion character depth and also an excuse to break how geralt is always the gloomy one and dandelion has to cheer him up, i think though they do have their strong personalities, relationships should ideally go both ways in terms of emotional support so it shows geralt has the capacity to support a dandelion with festering anger and personal identity problems. also a way for geralt to learn a little abt dandelions backstory without learning/spoiling the fact that hes a v*scount and actually noble and wealthy (they just refer to his family as being wealthy enough to pay for oxenfurt which is significant but not astounding)

Rule: Answer 11 questions and ask 11 more
UNLESS YOU’RE SLUSHEE.
THEN YOU ANSWER 44.
SO HERE WE GO, YOU MONSTERS.
@alreadyinmotion (I’M ONLY ANSWERING ONE SET)
Podcast/music you’re listening to right now? Well, RIGHT now I’m listening to “Celtic Music for Sleep,” but recently it’s been a lot of Elder Scrolls. For “Sonance” I listened to Mozart’s Klarinnettenkonzert and the MITJ soundtrack, including just Lisztomania (the theme version) for four hours straight.
You can have anything in the world to eat right now.  What is it? I just ate, so I’m not that hungry. But I guess I could go for some tonkatsu ramen.
Zodiac sign? Cancer.
What’s something you’re excited to do this week? GOING TO DISNEY TO TRY MY LUCK AT GETTING A MIGUEL MUG.
Favorite article of clothing? My oversized flannel shirts.
A food you want to try? Oden. God, I want to try oden so bad.
Favorite food when you’re sick? Plain noodles. Coincidentally also my favorite “It’s 3 am and I’m drunk and starving” food (if chips/fries are not an option.)
Favorite thing to do for others? Make them laugh.
Your best friend/sibling/S.O. wants to hang out! What do you do together? Best friend: Binge on anime. Sibling: Binge either Baking Championship or Real Housewives.
What’s something you’re proud of? Honest to god I am so proud of the fics I’ve put out for the Coco fandom. While I haven’t been ashamed of my fics, I’ve never been like HEY LOOK AT THIS I LIKE THIS THING I MADE before now.
What’s something you want to plug in and have people check out ;)  (Promote your OCs, AUs, webcomics, etc! Or your friends! BOAST, ALL YOU CREATIVE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE) Well, if you want an idea of what my original stuff is like, Wit reminded me today that I have my script Troubadour on my original works page. So, yanno, maybe check that out? I’m constantly ready to talk about “Hates Everything About Adventuring” Caena and Murder Goblin Edrys.
@im-fairly-whitty
1. What part of a creative project excites you the most? Probably writing out intense emotional scenes--any scene where someone breaks down into tears or, more favorably, explodes in a rage that becomes tears is when I’m at my writing peak.
2. If you could teleport anywhere in the world RIGHT NOW but could only stay for 45 minutes where would it be and why? I think I’d go to Paris. I love Paris a lot, but the whole travel aspect is not great. So if I could just pop over and get some bread or whatever, that’d be super rad.
3. Favorite animal. WHY ARE YOU ASKING HARD QUESTIONS WIT. Let’s say a penguin. Because I would absolutely be a penguin if I could.
4. If you where a dog what breed would you be? I’ve actually been doing a lot of dog research lately for reasons, and I think I’d be a shiba inu.
5. Favorite trait you value in a friend. Not being socially draining. It’s kind of a weird trait that is entirely based on my own perception of the person, but as someone who’s almost cripplingly introverted, it’s so nice to find people I can spend time with and not feel like I need to hide for a week afterward.
6. Favorite season? Moodwise: Fall. Weather-wise: Spring.
7. Coolest injury/scar story you have (if you want to tell it). I dislocated my knee because I got too excited about a boy and I sprained my wrist in show choir.
8. What color would you paint your bedroom if you could choose? Honestly? Like a nice warm brown, maybe with darker stripes.
9. Favorite TV show. Right now probably Mozart in the Jungle.
10. Something you’re proud of? I ALREADY ANSWERED THIS I DON’T NEED TO BE PROUD OF MYSELF ANYMORE.
11.Superpower you would most want to have
Shapeshifting. I cannot express my frustration at having to look like the same person all the time.
@upperstories
If you could have any kind of pet with the means to care for it properly, what would it be? A lion. I freaking love lions.
Favorite time of day/night? There’s about five minutes when the sun’s setting, when it’s just dipped below the horizon, where the sky’s still lit but the trees and buildings look like black paper cutouts against it. That’s absolutely my favorite time of day.
Favorite color palette I’m a sucker for neutral, foresty shades. Greens are my fave.
Are you a swimmer or a sand-castle sculptor? I am a “Why did you want to come to the beach so bad, Slushee, you hate the beach and you know you hate the beach but you kept whining about how you wanted to ‘feel the ocean air’ and now you’re here and you hate it but you can’t go home yet because the drive would have been a waste so I guess we’re going to sit here and sulk for an hour”-er.
If you ever got to meet your hero(ine) what would you talk about? I’m terrible when I meet people I look up to, so I’d probably just stammer into silence and slam my head into a camera. That’s what I did when I met Lee Unkrich.
Clearance Aisle or Thrift Store? Both.
If you had enough money for the house if your dreams, where would you live and why? I’d live in a fancy loft in a hipster-y city. I’d love to check out Boston, but I don’t know if I’d want to live there. Paris is another good option, except that I’d have to speak French all the time.
It’s raining like crazy outside. How does that affect your mood? TIME TO OPEN ALL THE WINDOWS AND LISTEN TO IRL RAINYMOOD.
Would you rather go on an adventure by yourself and make new friends on the way, or depart on an adventure with the friends you now have? I went on an adventure by myself, and it was a wonderful experience. I think I’d like to go on one of those again, but for now I’m very happy just staying home.
Favorite sound? Moving water. The sea, a river, the rain. So long as water’s moving I’m loving it.
Would you rather journey to the very bottom of the ocean or to outer space? Space is infinitely less scary than whatever’s going on with our oceans.
@calliopesquill
1. What do you wish more people knew about you? I wish more people knew how much I love pretty things. I’m a complete sucker for pretty things.
2. What place or thing in the world would you most like to see? Right now I really want to go to Japan.
3. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? When I was REALLY little, I wanted to be a dentist. Then I became more sensible and wanted to be an actress.
4. What style of clothing do you think you look silly in? I look TERRIBLE in rompers. It’s a disgrace.
5. What would your alebrije be? (Yes, you can pick more than one!) My cat would absolutely be my alebrije, Pepita-style. Except grumpier and more demanding.
6. What movie are you most looking forward to this year? Uh...I honestly don’t know what movies are coming out. Wreck It Ralph 2 looks pretty interesting.
7. What is your favourite thing to cook? Onigiri’s pretty fun to make.
8. What is one skill you would like to learn? I really want to learn how to paint someday.
9. What book do you think everyone should read? OKAY THIS IS TOUGH BECAUSE BOOKS THAT TOUCH ME WILL PROBABLY NOT TOUCH YOU SO IDK.
I do think Ella Enchanted is a must for most little girls, though. That’s where I learned that main character girls could be angry and feisty and sarcastic, and it’s been a huge influence on all my writing.
10. What is your Hogwarts house? SLYTHERIN.
11. If you could dress like/make a costume of any character, who would it be? Is it cheating if I’m already making an Hector costume for Halloween?
OKAY NOW TIME FOR MY QUESTIONS.
You get to visit any historical time period. Where do you go?
You’ve switched places with your most recent favorite character. How screwed are you and why?
Come up with a catchphrase. This isn’t a question it’s an order.
What’s your usual soundtrack while doing creative things (or do you work in silence?)
What’s something you consider a guilty pleasure?
Tell us about the last book/short story/fic you read.
Talk about an animal. Just like, any animal.
What’s your favorite part about the medium you work with (art, writing, music, chemicals, whatever)?
Beach or forest?
What’s a style you’ve always wanted to try but haven’t been able to get the nerve/money to go for?
What’s a lyric that gets stuck in your head easily?
TAGGING 11 PEOPLE
WELL JOKE’S ON YOU GUYS, THE ONES WHO GOT TAGGED ABOVE ARE PART OF THIS QUESTION HELL.
JOINING THEM ARE @scribblrhob @lacendydreamer @seasidefanasties @humanityinahandbag @beckytailweaver @geod23 @white-throated-packrat
ENJOY.

People tell me “don’t burn bridges ... “.... and I realize how it can seem like I do that a lot. But if you do something horrible to myself or someone else and I tell you to ... (well y’all can finish that sentence for yourselves... I try to change it up Keep it fresh).... then me telling you that, is not the moment the bridge has been burned. That’s just me pooring gasoline in to water to make sure you don’t even try to swim my way. . . . I don’t care who you know, how much money you have, how many followers or likes you get. Rest assured if you find me being an asshole to you it’s probably 9/10 times that I have my reasons, and that they are well thought through. ... it’s a sure sign that i have no intention of fucking with you or anyone that you are close to. . . . I’m at a point where I’d rather play parks and street corners then big stages and other big hooplas if it means I have to pretend to be cool with some of the scum in this industry. . . . And yeah who cares right? I’m just a small act not to big don’t fully have my shit together I’m easy to step on today, and my kindness is my weakness but my strength is im well versed in what a person taking advantage of that kindness looks like so I can easily make those thorough decisions and not have an ounce of regret. . . . ...But I got big dreams to help a lot of musicians, artists and entrepreneurs... I have no idea which ones I will end up working with ... but I got a list of ones I know I never will ...no matter how big of an opportunity it seems to be. . . . I don’t burn bridges I build them ... but I also build walls where bridges once were.... if that’s what the situation calls for. ...Don’t forget there’s always more talent out there, and if you surround yourself with shit don’t be so surprised when someone tells you “you stink”. . . . #TRUBDR . . . #commonsense #musicindustrytips #truth #givenofucks #busker #busking #entrepreneurship #musicproducer #musician #musiciansofinstagram #streetpreformer #oldladyguitar #dontbeadouchepleasebutifyouarethenyoullhavetobeadoucheelsewhere #troubadour https://www.instagram.com/p/B1KSV6xAnyj/?igshid=eyss3rqwy9k6

Ryan Montbleau at The Stone Church w/ Jason Scaggs
SOLD OUT SHOW
Sat Feb 10th 7:30pm - 11:00pm
The Stone Church, Main Street, Brattleboro, VT
This show is sold out but you can check the discussion page to see if you can score a ticket!
Ryan Montbleau has been an acclaimed singer, songwriter, and bandleader for more than a decade, but with his new album I WAS JUST LEAVING, the New England-based artist has truly arrived. Contemplative and richly emotive, the album offers a glimpse into the often-lonesome life of the relentlessly traveling troubadour, a strikingly single-minded existence too often clouded by the blur of constant motion. Recorded at New Orleans Esplanade Studios over four days in January 2016 with producer Anders Osborne and engineer/mixer Mark Howard (known for his work with such icons as Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Neil Young, and U2), the album marks Montbleaus first full length release in the wake of a series of seismic personal shifts. Songs like Bright Side and the touching title track reveal a uniquely blessed artist who has truly found his voice, his gift for melody and a remarkably open-armed approach.
There’s no part of this record that I am unsure of, Montbleau says. All the juice of the last fifteen years is in there. My humanity and my heart are on this record.
Montbleau has been among Americas finest songwriters and performers, earning national attention and a fervent fan following with songs like 75 and Sunny and his breakthrough cover of Tracy Chapmans Fast Car, the latter a Spotify smash with total streams now in excess of 14 million.
After twelve years on the road Montbleau found himself at a crossroads in 2016. Within a very short time, my world got flipped around. My partner was gone, my band of ten years was gone, my friends were all far away. The one thing I had was a career, because it turns out that was all I had worked on. When the dust settled, I realized I didnt really have much of a home life.
I thought all along that I had been building a home but it turned out I was just leaving. Thats where the title of the song and the record came from. So many raw feelings were just aching through me at that point. Eventually they vibrated out through the guitar, through singing. I had to sing these songs.
Tumblr media
An artists artist, Montbleau has collaborated with such diverse performers as Martin Sexton, Trombone Shorty, and Galactic. His association with Anders Osborne extends back to 2012 when the New Orleans-based singer/songwriter/guitarist played on Ryans Ben Ellman-produced FOR HIGHER alongside such fellow Big Easy icons as Ivan Neville and The Meters George Porter, Jr. Two years later, Anders and Ryan reconnected on the road backstage at a festival. The seeds were planted for a collaboration.
Montbleaus guitar playing and vocals are both front and center on I WAS JUST LEAVING, with Osborne accompanying on drums, percussion, bass, guitar, and harmonica, each used simply and sparsely for maximum effect. Osborne and Howard built upon that same goal, creating space and capturing rawness by utilizing as many early takes as possible.
Bright Side, the albums first single, is perhaps the song most emblematic of Montbleaus growth as both a human being and artist. At once finely etched and strikingly direct, Bright Side is an ideal distillation of his approach to songwriting, balancing multiple shades of emotional nuance with a fearless, unfettered sentimentality that ultimately leads to a greater truth.
I WAS JUST LEAVING marks a singular milestone for Ryan Montbleau, the moment in which this exceptional singer, songwriter, and performer has blossomed into a fully matured artist.
Ive been planting these seeds for so long and it has all led up to this moment. It feels like finally the fruits of all my efforts are coming out. Im still working hard but theres an ease to whats happening. I have a career that Ive built, that Ive earned. Now whats fun is putting out the best music I can and seeing what happens.
Jason Scaggs is a man with many instruments and many musical influences. If you listen closely you can hear his Appalachian boyhood in Roanoke, Virginia, some raucous Boulder, Colorado flavor and a swirl of Vermont inspiration for good measure. Taking pride in his thoughtful lyrics and unique melodies, Jason's songs are mesmerizing, drawing you into his vision. His songwriting ranges from Folk to Bluegrass to Alt Rock. Smooth transitions from banjo, to guitar, to baritone guitar make for an exciting ride and when coupled with his smooth vocals, his performance will leave you wanting to hear more.
youtube
Scaggs is probably most well known for his work in the regionally touring band Jatoba. There he was 1/3 of a foot-stomping, rowdy and dizzying non-traditional bluegrass trio. He is currently focusing on his duo “The Big Empty” (https://www.facebook.com/bigemptymusic/) with Jeff Richardson, also formerly of Jatoba.

Poet’s Pacific paradise: Pablo Neruda’s homes in Chile
As a brand-new cinema about Pablo Neruda gets a UK release, we call two of the Pacific-facing dwellings where the poet found inspiration: beachside Isla Negra and the crazy port of Valparaso
If we march up and down all the stairs of Valparaso well have walked all round the world. Poet Pablo Neruda was alluding to the cosmopolitan vigor of Chiles second metropoli, premier port and more romantic and likeable metropolis. He might also have been referring to the workout you get hiking around Valpo as locals dub it. Spread over 42 mounds, its manors, rooms, shanties and steep, cobbled streets are a sea-facing sprawl. When you get lost and hot, its a succour to stumble on one of the four ascensores funicular heaves which cut out some of the climbing.
chile map
Id been to Valpo before, to devour ceviche and experience fine wine-coloureds from the nearby Casablanca valley, but this time I chiefly wanted to explore the relationship between the city and Chiles Nobel prize-winning poet. A new film, Neruda, starring Luis Gnecco and Gael Garca Bernal, goes on general UK release on 7 April. That and a brand-new direct flight this year from Heathrow to Santiago international airport( an hour or so from Valparaso) is bound to revive interest in Chiles second city.
I began my mini-pilgrimage 84 km south of Valparaso, at Isla Negra. This is not an island at all, but a stunning beach spot where, in 1944, Neruda started building a house where he had been able to work on his masterpiece, Canto General, and throw defendants. It took two inventors, with their demanding purchaser advising, around 20 times to ended the house. Neruda jaunted around Chile and overseas as senator and producing communist party member. He was also exiled for several years in Buenos Aires and Mexico. But, as Neruda put it: The live preserved growing, like people, like trees.
La Casa de Isla Negra, the poets beachside home. Image: Alamy
Every 10 minutes, up to 14 beings are allowed into his Casa de Isla Negra, which they tour with an audioguide. The commentary is academic in detail and, if unavoidably positive about Neruda, still enlightening. The residence is a marvel, with chambers embellished according to the writers affections. One front room is shaped like a vessel, another like a qualify cab. Huge figureheads jut out at every turn, and ships in bottles fill windowsills. Neruda was an avid collector, of bottles, eggshells, insects, butterflies and, from the seems of his wardrobe, tweed coats, ponchos and hats.
With its ship-like narrow passageways and steep staircases, vivid paintwork, and mismatched and modernist furniture, the members of this house doesnt gaze dated at all. It rekindles a Neruda who was playful, whimsical and for a communist a lover of luxuries. To entertain pals, he had a large bar constructed, and he liked his clients to come in fancy dress, on themes he dictated.
Immature? Perhaps, but as Neruda said: The human who does not play has lost the child within him.
Luis Gnecco as Pablo Neruda in a still from the cinema.
Outside the house is Nerudas tomb, and below it a impressive rocky beach. Even on a era of low-pitched jazz, channel-surf was gate-crashing, turquoise with suds grey surfaces, and the light magical. I expected a Brazilian lady to take my photo and, unbidden, she ran forth her experiences for Neruda. Ive been in tears. This is such a mystical plaza. Ive been wanting to come here for years.
Im not sure any European poet has fairly this impact on parties. Nor can her heat be written off as typical of Latin Americans. A little afterwards, at the cafe( where Neruda-label wine was on offer ), a neighbourhood lady, when I mentioned my Brazilian acquaintance, witheringly declared, Que tontita ! How silly! Neruda segments opinion, particularly in his house society. One neighbourhood was just telling me at least a third of Chileans are pro-Pinochet, which induces them anti-Neruda.
After lunch at a roadside restaurant, it was on to Valparaso to visit Nerudas hilltop house, La Sebastiana( named after its original proprietor, Sebastin Collado) where he accommodated a big housewarming defendant in September 1961. Neruda liked to celebrate New Years Eve there and, taking in the view from the top floor, I could understand why. By era, you check Valpos colourful wooden houses and cabins toppling down to the port; by night, they become a emcee of tiny sunlights, mirroring the Milky Way above.

This less cluttered, more sophisticated live( another good audioguide was supplied) advocates farther areas of Nerudas personality. Poet’s Pacific paradise: Pablo Neruda’s homes in Chile
As a new cinema about Pablo Neruda gets a UK release, we call two of the Pacific-facing dwellings where the poet found inspiration: beachside Isla Negra and the crazy port of Valparaso
If we march up and down all the stairs of Valparaso well have walked all round “the worlds”. Poet Pablo Neruda was alluding to the cosmopolitan sparkle of Chiles second metropoli, chief port and more romantic and likeable metropolis. He might also have been referring to the workout you get hiking around Valpo as locals dub it. Spread over 42 mountains, its dwellings, lives, shanties and steep, cobbled streets are a sea-facing sprawling. When you get lost and hot, its a succor to stumble on one of the four ascensores funicular lifts which cut out some of the climbing.
chile map
Id been to Valpo before, to devour ceviche and experience fine wines from the nearby Casablanca valley, but this time I mainly wanted to explore the ties between the city and Chiles Nobel prize-winning poet. A new movie, Neruda, starring Luis Gnecco and Gael Garca Bernal, goes on general UK release on 7 April. That and a new direct flight this year from Heathrow to Santiago international airport( an hour or so from Valparaso) is bound to revive those who are interested in Chiles second city.
I began my mini-pilgrimage 84 km south of Valparaso, at Isla Negra. This is not an island at all, but a splendid beach discern where, in 1944, Neruda started building a room where he could work on his masterpiece, Canto General, and throw defendants. It took two designers, with their demanding buyer admonishing, around 20 years to terminated the members of this house. Neruda travelled around Chile and overseas as senator and passing communist defendant member. He was also exiled for several years in Buenos Aires and Mexico. But, as Neruda made it: The residence hindered ripening, like parties, like trees.

Every 10 minutes, up to 14 people are allowed into his Casa de Isla Negra, which they tour with an audioguide. The commentary is academic in detail and, if unavoidably positive about Neruda, still enlightening. The mansion is a marvel, with areas embellished according to the writers heats. One living room is shaped like a ship, another like a train posture. Huge figureheads jut out at every turn, and carries in bottles fill windowsills. Neruda was an avid collector, of bottles, shells, bugs, butterflies and, from the ogles of his wardrobe, tweed jackets, ponchos and hats.
With its ship-like narrow corridors and steep staircases, colors paintwork, and mismatched and modernist furniture, the house doesnt ogle dated at all. It stimulates a Neruda who was playful, playful and for a communist a sweetheart of luxuries. To entertain friends, he had a large rail built, and he liked his guests to come in fancy dress, on themes he dictated.
Immature? Perhaps, but as Neruda said: The serviceman who does not play has lost the child within him.

Outside the house is Nerudas tomb, and below it a stunning rocky beach. Even on a epoch of low wind, surf was gate-crashing, turquoise with lathering lily-white pinnacles, and the light mystical. I expected a Brazilian wife to take my photo and, unbidden, she swarmed forth her appears for Neruda. Ive been in tears. This is such a magical neighbourhood. Ive been wanting to come here for years.
Im not sure any European poet has quite this effect on people. Nor can her fervour be written off as typical of Latin Americans. A little afterward, at the cafe( where Neruda-label wine was on offer ), a local dame, when I mentioned my Brazilian acquaintance, witheringly uttered, Que tontita ! How silly! Neruda fractions ruling, especially in his house person. One local was just telling me at least a third of Chileans are pro-Pinochet, which clears them anti-Neruda.
After lunch at a roadside eatery, it was on to Valparaso to visit Nerudas hilltop house, La Sebastiana( referred after its original proprietor, Sebastin Collado) where he hampered a big housewarming defendant in September 1961.
