I know Carmela crying at the painting of baby Jesus was supposed to be about her marriage to Tony and how she craves innocence and infantilizes him to escape what he really is but... the first time I saw that scene I was absolutely fucking gutted by how empty and isolating her life is and how the last time it felt full was probably when AJ was a baby, and how she's wondering now if it will ever feel full again

S3E12
With the Master having regenerated himself and taken the TARDIS, the Doctor, Martha and Jack Harkness manage to return to Earth. When they arrive, they see the new British Prime Minister, Harold Saxon, on television and Martha immediately recognizes his voice: it's the regenerated Master. He announces that he has been contacted by alien beings and that they will arrive in two days' time. Despite an attempt by the American President to take over the situation, the Master is very much in charge. The situation is particularly stressful for Martha in particular as the Master has taken her family as prisoners.
*When The Doctor and The Master are speaking to each other the phone, they really are talking to the other person. Instead of having the lines read to them on the set, David Tennant and John Simm called each other in order to make the scene more authentic.

I still think intergenerational trauma as tragic fate is a major theme of the sopranos, especially in this episode.... Tony saying AJ has "the putrid Soprano gene," and Melfi recognizes genetic predisposition as a euphemism for fate and so she's really telling him "when you blame fate you blame yourself" because she knows Tony thinks he's passed his ill fate onto AJ the same way ill fate was passed to him by his mother and father. And Melfi says "that's what we should talk about" as if this, too, is analyzable and graspable and fixable, and really it's a constant conflict across the whole show, that psychiatry is predicated on the ability to change yourself which means changing the fate that's written into who you are, but Tony never truly believes that fate is fixable. He says "how do we save this kid?" and the scene cuts out, because Tony never, ever knows how a person can be saved from who they really are.
