tbh i cant really comment much on the hotd part bc ive yet to see the latest episodes but my mildly spicy take is that i still lowkey like the show💔 i might not be a targ enjoyer but even i can appreciate some nice costume design and finally some good looking dragons. i do think its odd that we're only now getting a daeron name drop instead of seeing him in s1 bc like? he's still one of alicent's and viserys's four children, arguably the best/most adjusted. anyways. i think theyre doing the best with what they got, esp given that im p sure it'll be explained with something along the lines of daeron being sent off to Oldtown to squire for a knight(which makes sense i suppose but the principle is there. i still wanted to see him in s1)

the thing abt jon x dany is that i mostly get why ppl ship it, yk, hot cold fire ice red blue opposites attract and so on, and if i squint my eyes and twirl around three times, i can also see how it *could* happen if dany were to land in westeros and get to the north. personally tho? i dont really see it. yeah theres jon and dany not even knowing that the other exists, but also the fact that for the past 5 books the north and the starks have been fighting for independence and to overcome their tyrannical rulers (Robert's Rebellion against Aerys, then Robb being declared King of the North, their disatisfaction with the Bolton and Lannister regime, the Frey pie and the grand northern conspiracy theories.) Dany wants all of the seven kingdoms and the iron throne, she says so herself in the show. even if she and jon do have an affair, then ive no doubt that she'd give it up for the IT, esp bc we all know that R + L = J is certainly canon, which could make jon a rival claimant, not to mention young griff still existing. could jon fall for dany? ehh possibly, i highly doubt it tho. even if it did happen, i hope grrm would handle it better than the i dont want it u r my qween we got in the show bc jon isnt an ambitionless man. he has goals and drive he wanted to be lord of winterfell in his childhood and when stannis offered him the north, truly he considered it, he even joined the nights watch bc its a place where bastards can climb the ranks. idk why the jonerys ship/pers seems so insistent on making jon a meek little house husband but its kinda grating

The fact that will was upset that bug wasn't the one to come visit is just so perfect in my mind . He still mourns the relationship between Jonathan and bug and what could've been. I honestly think will looked up to Jonathan and bugs relationship. Like he saw his brother who was " different" and an outcast find someone who loved him despite what everyone else had to say about him. That gave will hope that he'd find someone who would be the same for him, probably before coming to terms with who he was and what he feels. So when bug and Jonathan split it was like " oh, so what chance do I have?" Maybe it also helped him realize his feelings for Mike. Mike understands will and stood by him through all of his hardships coming back from the upsidedown. Mike is wills bug. Until the dynamic changes in season four, where will is now in s1/2 bugs shoes, watching someone he loves being with someone else.

oooooh i love the idea of mike and will being a parallel to bug and jon ,,, especially because mike and bug are so similar and will and jon are as well ,,, ur a genius anon

because yes !!! will grows up watching bug and jon be so naturally in love and happy and have the strongest friendship hes ever seen. he finds that in mike, he aspires to have that same connection as his brother does and he thinks maybe hes found it !!! hes found his bug !!!

but then nancy and steve come and will just doesnt understand how bug and jon could just be separated so easily. it scares him. and this perfectly follows the season 2 timeline of mike being the only one by wills side, the only one there for him, and will is terrified he’ll lose him like jon does with bug :(((

Okay FISHES. I think I'm going to put my thoughts below the cut for people avoiding spoilers and also because I think I have a lot.

Luckily, I rewatched this episode last night with my parter so it's fresh in ma brain.

Honestly, it was heartbreaking, and stressful and chaotic, and just a lot of emotions flying around. I think we really get to see WHY Carmy is how he is. With himself, with the restaurant, with his siblings, with Richie, with Claire!!!! I think we see why he loves the kitchen, and probably why he hates it. @drabbles-mc said this to me the other day, how it really gave us an understanding WHY Carmy didn't go to Mikey's funeral. Because this is what happens at Christmas time, imagine what a funeral where everyone is grieving and emotional and going through it, would look like. Cousin Michelle talked with him about essentially taking care of himself and avoiding these scenarios and I think Carmy took that advice, even though it wasn't going to be with her.

With Sugar, I just. My heart breaks. It was a great callout to why in S1 she was so upset that Carmy never asked her how she was. I think that Sugar asked it so much because, 1. She genuinely cared but 2. She wished someone would have asked her. All the things her mother said to her, and like again, this is ONE time. ONE night. Imagine growing up like this, imagine dealing with this day after day? Idk I just I feel like this really showed us why each person is the way they are.

And WITH THAT. I feel like that's why Richie loves this family so much. He doesn't really have anyone, we touched upon how his dad not being there and I think this found family moment is better for him than nothing at all. Seeing him and Tiffany together ... ugh MY HEART. I knew Richie had a sweet side in him since S1, I know he was rude and grouchy and all that but MY MANS WAS GRIEVING OKAY. He is trying. He is constantly trying. He cares about people and HIS people so deeply and I just... give this man a hug.

Mikey. Fucking. Berzatto. and also. Jon fucking Bernthal. and ALSO the fucking WRITING! The way I see the pain Mikey is feeling through his eyes his behavior, his hair even, the disheveledness. In S1, we see him clean shaven, and I'd have to think that was before this Christmas episode (who actually knows?) but you can see he is struggling. When Lee in the end said "you are nothing." I got this feeling, he didn't actually say it that many times. I think it just repeated and ricochetted off in his brain. The way the camera shot is just makes me think we're in Mikey's POV? Idk.

NOW that we got through the heavy stuff, I need to go through the moments that made me smile.

Tim and Sasha's relationship gets a bit tense, but they both hide it under jokes and try to play it off until a bigger moment, you know? on top of that, I have two ways of Spiral!Sasha to happen but I'm not really sure which I like best.

Michael opens a door when the not-them is trying to get Sasha, and she runs into it to get away, only to be consumed and distorted by the spiral. leaning towards this one.

instead of taking Helen to start, Michael takes Sasha as a warning to be like "Don't mess with me or my prey" in a way. This one is a little more difficult, seeing as Helen's statement happens after not-sasha and serves to push Jon's paranoia. So some story needs slight re-ordering for it.

Tim is somehow lovely at his job and horrible at it at the very same time, if that makes any sense? He's wonderful at charming people and helping them calm a bit when they come in for statements, but some people drive him up the wall incredibly easily. A lot of the organization efforts in the archives are still pushed by Jon and Sasha, with Tim somehow being able to find what he needs whenever. This is a man with a messy room. I will say that I don't think he gets kidnapped as much as Jon.

The Eyepocolypse... my enemy. My friend. I haven't decided!! you would think the answer is obvious given my many "ceaseless watcher" tarchivist drawings, but I'm so so torn. The story in my files is labeled Elias's Very Bad No Good Year for a reason, but I want to entertain this because it would be very fun. Tim would be.. so fucking pissed off over the world ending, to put it bluntly. he would be out for Elias's blood, with some stabbed out eyes if he could manage. I adore the s1 archives crew with my whole heart, and the four of them traversing the bs of the eyepacolypse together and meeting up with the others later is absolute gold to me.

Finally, Tim is a whore because he simply is and also I am a fan of men's tits <3<3

He also has a straight, ragged scar across his Adam's apple. He is still wearing his brown cardigan, but now with a scruffy purple jumper and his pale tracksuit bottoms. He is surrounded by three green eyes. thank u for all ur dedicated work in compiling those s1 and s2 posts abt jon and what he actually said/did vs fanon, i did binge seasons 1-4 and caught up towards the middle of s5, but even with those earlier seasons being a bit of a blur i remember going into the tags once i was caught up and thinking "so i guess we are just ignoring how jon said at the end of s1 that he's been scared and he was faking skepticism because of it?" like i thought that was a very big and important reveal that re-contextualized the entire first season!! and it's one thing to make lighthearted fun of a character you like but jon's treatment by some of the fandom is Something Else i also never understood the number of listeners who apparently agree with all the blame that gets heaped on him from like Every Character. thank u for defending jon my beloved from slander.
