BPP, what is an unpopular or controversial or just random opinion you have about BTS? Could be anything about them. OK pls add a little something on Jimin too hehe. I love how you see him, even the bad.
***
Autumn Leaves by BTS is one of the best produced and arranged songs in music, particularly considering its verse structure, vocal arrangement and layering - this song alone is reason enough for BTS to be the dominant music group not just in Korea, but globally.
I'm curious.. when was the last time you listened to HYYH Pt 2? Do you remember if you liked it? Personally, I think the entire album is a delectable treat. BTS was only just revving up back when that album was released, they were only just getting started, and believe me when I tell you they had every soul on every continent gagged.
On Dead/Autumn Leaves, Namjoon's vocals are delicious. Chunky almost, like you could bite into what he's saying. Hobi's bridge is so classically him. Jungkook brings so much soul and life to that song?? JK had recently turned 18 when that album was released and on Dead Leaves you can tell that he was ready to be seen as a real singer, and an adult man. Jin's vocals are clear and bright. Yoongi created magic from Blackbear's Deadroses, starting off the song in a way only he can, Taehyung's bit before Hobi starts singing is one of the highlights of the whole song...
And then there's Jimin. The sauciest to ever do it. The strength in his voice? The hunger and ambition in it? The high-note adlibs he sings throughout the song is one thing that elevates Dead Leaves into its S-tier ranking.
And while I'm on the subject of Jimin, one unpopular opinion I have is that I think he needs less vocal training. Not more. That man has always been naturally gifted at knowing how exactly to perfectly express emotion, using his vocals. That's what everything about Jimin is designed to do: evoke a strong emotion in you. And my god do you hear him do that with his vocal delivery on Dead Leaves. He's only ever needed help finding the guideposts for ways to not overstress his vocal muscles, especially considering his weight and chronic pain management.
Jimin needs less vocal training. More reckless abandon (where reasonable). More voice cracks, squeaks, vocal fry, the works. All that good shit. He'd be with the likes of Joni Mitchell, Tyler Joseph, Miley Cyrus, Taka, Brandi Carlile, etc, and that's good company to be in. Less vocal training, more singing within his range, more throaty, low register singing, more piercing, metallic high-pitched singing, more of his rapping, more of him being free and unrestrained in vocally expressing himself. We hear that on Dead Leaves, we hear that on Set Me Free Pt 2. More than anything else, that's what I want more of in PJM2.
I can't wait for BTS to be back in 2026. They make such beautiful magic when they're together, telling their own stories, and pushing themselves.

fRankenstein Tier List 2.0
Featuring all the adaptations, reimaginings, and "inspired by"s that's I've experienced so far and remembered about. Rankings are based on faithfulness to the original text, how much I enjoyed them, and my own capricious wills
Described and explained below the cut:
(F)rankenstein Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus (1818 book) by Mary Shelley Arguably the best adaptation of any source material is the original thing itself, but I'm not a philosopher
It's (A)live!!!! Frankenstein from the Royal Ballet Follows the source material possibly too closely, leading to a dull first act, but more than makes up for it with an Insane finale. Steven McRae as the Creature was phenomenal
Young Frankenstein (1974 film) Fun film and really good parody. They gave Frankenstein bottom surgery
Frankenstein (2015 album) by the Mechanisms Banger lyrics great song I love it when two characters are trapped in a spiral of their own making
(B)ack from the grave The Monsters We Deserve (2018 book) by Marcus Sedgewick Read it in one sitting and it thoroughly rattled my brain. Takes both the plot and the physical book Frankenstein and makes it about the responsibilities (or lack thereof) of creation
Lisa Frankenstein (2024 film) 52% on Rotten Tomatoes because nobody understands camp. It's fun it's gothic it's romantic I cannot recommend it enough. Honestly the only reason it's not higher is that I have to at least pretend to think about how these follow the original book
(C) what's on the slab Rock Horrors both stage (1973) and screen (1975), as well as Re-Animator (1985 film) and Bride of Re-Animator (1990) Very much not adaptations but undeniably heavily influenced by. I'll call them both fun*, note the asterisk, if you've seen either you know the parts I refer to in each
Secret Abilities and the Diary of a Teenage Frankenstein (2018 album) by, funnily enough, Secret Abilities Not convinced anyone in this band can carry a tune but that's neither here nor there. I really liked the idea of a choose-your-own-adventure album and their songs are fun! SNITCHES GET STITCHES is a delightful song about loving someone so much you'd sew yourself together with them to never be parted.
Young Frankenstein (2007 musical) Not necessarily a good musical, nevertheless a fantastic night out to watch it
Un(D)ead Frankenstein (1931 film) Look okay okay I know how influential it is I know it's rich me, renowned bad taste haver, putting it so low, but in adaptation terms it's not good and in film enjoyment terms I didn't. They fucked up the Creature's legacy :(
Poor Things (1992 book) by Alasdair Gray I feel a bit bad putting this so low, because on a technical level it is very well done, I just feel entirely middling towards it
?, ? Frankissstein: A Love Story (2019 book) by Jeanette Winterson. Still haven't re-read it, still don't remember anything about it. Storygraph assures me I gave it 3 stars on 1 October 2019, which could _frank_ly (ha!) mean anything
#you score highly for being an enjoyable good adapatation. you also score highly for being fun even if it's a little bit shit#thus are the joys of putting things into arbitrary categories#frankenstein#one of these days i'll reread Frankissstein and form an actual opinion on it

Hoya dude✌️
Have you listened to NMIXX's latest comeback?
Today is a good day, both Nmixx and Fromis_9 made their comeback, I freaking love their b-side very much.
NMIXX- See that: the song was very catchy like their "Dash" MV. "nananana BYUL BYUL BYUL" this is only my 2nd hearing, it's already stuck in my head.
"Red light...." Something I forgot the title of the b-side, it's a freaking scam for the duration less than 3 minutes😫.
Fromis b-side, on the first hearing, I already can tell it's very fromis_9 sound, I freaking love it.
Going to replay both albums till I'm saturated with it 😂.
Have a Kyujin and Jiwoo combo, some maybe confuse taking the right one (Jiwoo) as the maknae🤣. I put their clip under the same name Kyujiwoo, they literally are two peas in a pod. I like Kyujin very much because she gets recognition other than her being the maknae.
Hello mikeylo! My ass is procrastinating, so I'll be doing a review on Nmixx and fromis_9's comebacks instead of working on my draft :>
NMIXX - Fe3O4: STICK OUT
See That? - 8/10. I like the old school hip hop influence, this is probably my favorite title track they have so far :] It still has that Mixxpop flavor without being too experimental for the general public to dislike it immediately imo.
SICKUHH - 7/10. So I'm a HUGE khiphop fan and seeing the Kid Milli feature at first got me geeked tf out. I think the song is just okay tho, the difference between kpop rappers and actual rappers in terms of "energy" is very evident in this song, but I do like it.
Red light sign, but we go - 11/10. THIS SONG IS SO FUUCKING GOOD, that buildup in the prechorus is god tier, the gritty instrumentals with their light and airy vocals is so AUGHHH I love nmixx.
BEAT BEAT - 8/10. Solid song. I love songs that make me feel like running. Don't really have any other notes other than I like it :]
Moving On - 6/10. Probably my least favorite song on the album, but not bcs it's a bad song, just not my favorite genre of music. Makes me feel nostalgic, I feel like it could on be the soundtrack to an early 2010s Disney Channel movie :> Reminds me of Hannah Montana a lil bit :>
Love is Lonely - 8/10. It's a generic sounding pop song, but I'm kinda a slut for generic sounding pop songs that make me wanna do the "white girl at a club" dance. Reminds me of mid 2010s Taylor Swift or Ariana Grande :> A pretty great way to end the album imo.
Overall Rating - 8/10. I liked this album a lot :D I know Nmixx is pretty divisive, but they really do make a lot of bangers if you can get over how questionable their earlier title tracks are. It's also a crime that most of these songs are less than 3 minutes >:[
fromis_9 - Supersonic
Supersonic: 1893659831589158/10. SONG OF THE MF SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!! BANGER!!!!! THEY INJECTED CUNT INTO THIS SONG!!!!!!! RAHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Beat the Heat: 8/10. They were serving city pop summer realness in the entire song, but then the chorus........ Would've been a perfect 10 if they just... didn't do that.
Take a Chance - 8/10. Very similar vibes to Love is Lonely. I would bump tf out of this on a late night driving playlist.
Overall Rating - 8/10. We asked for three minute songs, and Hybe heard "three songs" :[ Supersonic carries, and I think this comeback will be the one that pushes me into finally getting into fromis_9 :] (pls don't disband pls)

SANCTUARY REVIEWWWWWWWWWW (i was delirious when i listened to excuse me if it's bad asf)
album review:
trust when i say i have not loved a single txt song since dbtw. yall are gonna come for me but i promise i love our boys and still buy the albums and stream the songs, but i genuinely have not heard a single s-tier (for me) song since dbtw and tinnitus. there are ofc songs that have come close (skipping stones, quarter life crisis, growing pain, etc), but nothing like temptation for me.
imma be honest, when i first heard the teasers for the tracks i was more than a lil nervous. like hella nervous. bc they all sounded like they could be right there at s-tier and then it'd be a let down. but when I TELL YOU I WAS SHOOKETH WHEN I HEARD THIS ALBUM. heard it when i first woke up and i will never be the same. does it top my fav albums by them? nah. is it an absolute banger? hell yes.
another day, another slay for tubatu
TOP
1- resist
girl. GIRLLLLLL. when i tell you, the moment the first verse started i projectile busted (no winning nnn for me <//3) can't believe they gave yj both verses but with THAT voice i can understand why. the chorus gets me on a spiritual level and trust i had this on repeat when i was studying
2- forty one winks
the rnb. literally kill me now because holy FUCK, i let out an audible gasp when i first heard. claiming this song when i heard the track was the best decision i've ever made in my life, all their voices had me weak in the knees and i may be in love
3- heaven
cute, lighthearted, and it's been in my head all day <33
4- over the moon
HOW MANY LETTERS IN COMEBACK??? ATEEEEEEEE (mv was lacking imo but the song >>>>>> fucking obsessed, the chorus is saur catchy i love it
5- danger
i loved this song but im so sorry i could NOT keep a straight face "what you doing to me" "tomorrow x together" smth abt yjs voice had me otf in tears from laughing
6- higher than heaven
no hate, it was nostalgic asf but the beginning reminded me of a christmas song <//3

Evildilf2’s opinions on newish goth bands
Molchat Doma: awesome, refreshing, simple but danceable. S tier.
She Past Away: up there with Molchat Doma in terms of good goth bands, love how cold their music sounds. They should come to Ohio FR.
She Wants Revenge: they have a handful of bangers but let’s be real most of their music sounds the same. Tear You Apart is fantastic but I can only stomach so much formulaic heterosexual lust in an album. Overall, they are MID.
Lebanon Hanover: a lot of their songs are corny AF but I respect it. Gallowdance has a great sound & I totally get why it’s blown up so much in the past year or so.
Vision Video: REDDITTTT REDDIT
Jah PHNX: I didn’t like them at first but their music has grown on me, I really like the soft voice of the vocalist & how it pairs with the instrumentals… excited to see what will come of this project & can’t wait for an album drop.
Twin Tribes: they are better than okay, I wouldn’t call them mid but they aren’t one of my favorites. I like Fantasmas enough that I wanted to see them when they came to Ohio this fall but I had class -_-
Harsh Symmetry: I liked Mirror Twin a lot when it came out, but I don’t know. His music isn’t bad but it doesn’t really stand out to me, kinda derivative yk.
French Police: I liked their album Haunted Castle, pretty decent, standard darkwave.
Blind Seagull: pretty sweet, nice to listen to while tidying up my apartment. I like the way they incorporate more “trippy” electronic noises into their darkwave songs… I’m always looking for fast paced electronic music yk
Plastique Noir: I think they slayyyyy & their latest album is pretty good… “Asleep in the Night Train” is infectious to me I love it. Wouldn’t put this band up there with Molchat Doma & She Past Away though.
Boy Harsher: really good sound but I feel their songs should be shorter. I always end up listening to like 2/3rds of a track and getting frustrated that it hasn’t resolved yet, which detracts from my enjoyment.
#all my little words#and I haven’t listened to enough uhhh#male tears… selofan… deceits#2 give my opinion on those#if I remember any other bands I have opinions on I’ll add on

CLOWN CIRCUS RANKINGS LETS GO
Error = B
feels a little empty but it’s not bad, good background sound for art
Lemon Demon = D
the chorus is waaay too repetitive for being so meh imo
10000 light years away = A
this feels like a more modern Neil song, but with the charm of the classics, I like it! The keyboard solo is great too.
Don’t be like the sun = B
Not much to say, it’s solid but not A tier, lyrics are a bit lacking
Bowling alley = F
THIS ONE. It feels like me when I’m barely awake lol. Experimental, not in a good way.
Wrong = S
I LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCH. Vocal effects itch my brain perfectly, great tempo and that first wrong HITS.
Hazel’s modus operandi = C
Middle of the road, it’s fine ig
Idiot control now - S+
I’m so biased. I’m a MSTie, and any MST3K song is insta-S tier
Pepper and Salt = B
I dig the reggae beat, and the high reverb and lyrics are fun!
Holy Bison Breaks! = B
Feels like something I’d right in the car in the best way. It’s like a much better version of bowling alley
Somnolence = B
The reverb on Clown Circus’s track so far is really nice! This one is probably the best fit for that effect, but it’s a bit too calm for me, and not in a soothing way (ex would be Rainwater)
Fire Motif = A
Again, feels like a newer LD song in some ways, but I really really dig it! The ending is GOOOOOOD.
Hyakugojyuuichi 2003 = S
I hate animation memes with a burning passion, so I was originally soured by this one, but I listened to it fully and ITS SO SILLY and makes my autistic brain starting ascending into the heavens
Elsewhere = A
Perfect ending for the first album! It does slightly overstay its welcome but it’s solid!
Overall ranking = B
A good foundation for future albums! The lows were pretty low but the highs were really, really good!
RANKING:
1 - Idiot Control Now (bias)
2 - Wrong
3 - Hyakugojyuuichi 2003
4 - Fire Motif
5 - Elsewhere
6 - 1000 Light Years Away
7 - Pepper And Salt
8 - Holy Bison Breaks!
9 - Somnolence
10 - Error
11- Don’t Be Like The Sun
12 - Hazel’s Modus Operandi
13 - Lemon Demon
14 - Bowling Alley

unserious kpop album review of one of my all-time favorites #1
here to kick things off is red velvet's rbb !
really bad boy (8/10) - okay so listen, do i like rbb more than bad boy? the answer is, unfortunately, yes. but WAIT - hear me out: the drums, the horns, the layered vocals, the whistle note, wendy's part in the bridge??? yes, liking this more than bad boy is probably the music taste equivalent of biting into a kit kat without breaking it in half, but i can't help it if i'm just smarter than you.
butterflies (11/10) - this is an s tier fucking song. the soft, husky vocals with the synths?? mwah! i literally could not recommend this song enough. it's one of the best kpop songs in existence. and i know this because i'm a god and everything i say is true and factual and objective. the bible? that was based on me and my kpop takes, bitches
so good (9/10) - it is, in fact, so good.
sassy me (6.5/10) - the horn part is such an earworm...also joy's vocal fry in this song goes fucking craaaaaazy holy shit
taste (5/10) - uhhh yeah so why does that fucking theremin-esque noise in the beginning sound like a stomach growling??? also not the fucking 2000s white girl speaking intro PLSSSS...it even had the giggle and EVERYTHING. the rest of the song is frankly, meh. so i'd like to take up this space to write an open letter to sm: not every song needs to have a low-grade shitty rap. please, i'm begging. sincerely, clowndra

Did anyone care about Nightbane? A comparison to Nickelback
I'm not gonna lie, I enjoy discourse. I've skimmed parts of Lightlark and Nightbane, but just wasn't engaged enough to keep reading. Big thanks to my local library for enabling me to do that 💪
What I was looking forward to was the slew of vids from booktubers dissecting Nightbane like they did Lightlark. While there were a few, like the amazing Crowcaller. Reads with Rachel, and James Tullos, their videos just haven't popped off in the algorithm like their Lightlark videos did. This isn't because YouTube doesn't love a good sequel though.
I think a lot of people were just immeasurably disappointed by Lightlark to even care about the sequel, let alone the discourse surrounding it. Everything is terrible all the time and we're surrounded by constant chaos. So, watching a video about a book that is definitely, without a doubt, bad is a chore for a lot of people. While all these videos are entertaining, Nightbane is just Lightlark but with dipping mustards and even more confusing lore.
I think it's like when Nickelback released Get Rollin or No Fixed Address. (I KNOW you forgot these were released; not even Pitchfork reviewed these and they take cash from BMG and Republic ALL THE TIME). Everyone knew Nickelback was kinda mid, and so they just never popped off. However, there was enough "okay" things in early Nickelback that they could survive just being mid enough to where people would begrudgingly put on the next album.
Unfortunately, Lightlark was so profoundly disappointing that she couldn't muster up even close to the same hype as before. I don't think Alex Aster is especially bad. Her writing strength is passable, and people have certainly written worse prose. Her weakness lies in storytelling and cohesiveness. Even with her mid tier prose, had she written and engaging story, she would be beloved in the community. Just like Nickelback. With the help of their producers the pieces are there to write a functional, and even serviceable at times, songs. But, something always falls a bit short due to the delivery.
I have a theory, that if any competent mid 00's artist was tasked with covering Nickelback's most infamous 00's hits, that the cover would be a sensation. Most Nickelback isn't any worse than any mainstream 00's sludge, but what makes it so dislikable is their delivery.
Change the delivery to spare the messenger.

Since I Lost Issues: RIP Topic One Of Metalcore’s Most Ambitious Bands
Georgia-based metalcore band Issues released their debut EP in 2012, Black Diamonds, but their self-titled album came out in 2014. Issues, which is also the band that came out of the split from metalcore band Woe Is Me after vocalists Tyler Carter and Michael Bohn left after their debut album in 2010, I believe, is a band that I struggled to get into for a long time. I felt as though that while their sound was ambitious, they leaned too far into the metalcore tropes of the time, and not enough into the pop and R&B sounds that Carter was really into. That all changed with 2016’s Headspace, where the band went into forays of pop, R&B, funk, nu-metal, and alt-metal, along with metalcore. That record still toyed with the tropes of metalcore, but it was 2019’s Beautiful Oblivion that did it for me. That record took every sound and influence and melded it altogether into a single cohesive record, and they really were on the cusp of becoming the future of the genre.
That was before the band kicked out vocalist Tyler Carter for some heinous accusations, and before I go any further, I don’t want to make this piece sound like I’m upset they broke up, or that I don’t understand why, considering what I just said, and the pandemic coming right afterwards put a halt into a lot of bands’ plans, as they had to retool everything from recording new music to touring. I did want to write this, though, because they put out one more song, at least before they put on a few farewell shows this year to celebrate and commemorate their time as a band.
Issues is a band that took time for me to get heavily into, but when it clicked, it really clicked for me. I love metalcore, although my relationship with the genre has been complicated over the years, and I also really love pop and R&B music, so it’s cool that Issues broke those walls down and combined the two styles, as well as eventually adding funk and alt-metal to the mix. Nowadays, bands are happy to experiment and throw in non-metal influences to their sound, albeit some better than others, but the boundaries are blurred within the genre now. Issues are a reason for that, I think, but you have other bands that paved the way for that, too, such as Bring Me The Horizon shedding most of their metalcore influences to have a pop meets alt-metal meets metalcore sound.
I just listened to Beautiful Oblivion while working on this piece, because I wanted to see if the album’s held up over the last four and a half years since it came out, even with the stain of Tyler Carter and I have to say that it honestly does. I don’t feel as bad for listening to them now, because of two things — they’re breaking up, so the band is disappearing for good, and part of what makes that record (as well as the whole band) work so well isn’t just Carter. Instrumentally, these guys are too notch. It takes a good rhythm section and backing musicians to make a record truly great, not just the vocalist, and while Carter is still a top tier vocalist within the genre (unfortunately), he isn’t the most important part of the band, especially for a band as unique and ambitious as they were. Beautiful Oblivion, and their new song that they just dropped to coincide with their farewell shows, entitled “Since I Lost You,” is a reminder that begs the question “what if?” If Carter never got kicked out, and/or the pandemic didn’t happen, this band probably could have been a lot bigger than they ultimately ended up being. What will their legacy end up being now, though?
Time will tell, as with all things, but I think it’ll be a good one. Carter being fired is a stain in that legacy, but not to the chagrin of the others, and the fact they broke up afterwards is good, as they didn’t try with another vocalist that most likely would have paled in comparison, and as far as breakup records go, Beautiful Oblivion is a great one. It’s a genre-bending masterclass on how to make metalcore with many different influences, and how you can love metal and other genres at the same time, ultimately not putting yourself into a box, whether that’s in terms of being a musician or being a fan. If I wasn’t already into pop and R&B music when this band hit the scene, at least to a small degree, I would have probably wanted to sink my teeth into those genres more, thanks to this band, and I wonder how many other people were influenced by them to do that. Their legacy may be a little complicated at the moment, because of everything that happened about four years ago, but these guys had a good run. RIP to Issues. You’ll be missed.
With Issues’ breakup, there are other bands that carrying the torch for them. Their brand of “R&Bcore” influenced a lot of other bands, even if it’s indirectly, as a lot of metalcore bands are moving into a pop-friendly sound. Bad Omens, Beartooth, Sleep Token, Wage War, Of Mice & Men, Bring Me The Horizon (they’re another band that’s been slowly making more pop-friendly stuff, too), and many others are giving metalcore a new sound. A lot of newer bands are continuing this sound, too, such as Sleep Theory, Archetypes Collide, and Wind Walkers, and while they’re relatively safe and generic, they’re still catchy and fun, just what the genre asks for. Issues will never been forgotten; their place in metalcore and heavier music is secure. The vocalist of the band The Home Team, a pop-punk band that mixes alt-metal and R&B into their sound, is filling in for the band as their vocalist on their farewell shows, and it’s a good fit because Brian Butcher has one of the best voices in the genre and is finally starting to blow up a bit. Issues will always be a band that people remember, and their time was good, but instead of remembering what happened to them and why they broke up, let’s remember what made them so memorable in the first place, because unlike a lot of metalcore bands, Issues was great for every member, not just their vocalist.

K-Pop Recap Of 2023!
Tagged by: @ambivartence thank you Siyuan 💕
Groups You Started Stanning?: uhh let me think... annnd I forgot everything I did during this year. I didn't start stanning any group in the sense of binge watching videos etc, I started listening to Seventeen more, so maybe I'm slowly starting to stan them 👀 also let me explain, I listened to Finnish music a lot more this year and fell in love with Kuumaa's music (my spotify wrapped was not just kpop this year lool)
New Ult Biases?: Jihyo, she just took a hold on me like girl you're trapped and you have no choice
Idol(s) Who Got The Most Of Your Simping?: Yoongi (obviously), Jungkook, RM, Chan, Jihyo... basically my ults and their groups tbh
Most Streamed Group(s): Twice, Ateez, Stray Kids, BTS, (G)I-DLE, IVE, iKON, Fifty Fifty, Blackpink, SHINee, Le Sserafim, Seventeen, The Rose, NMIXX, Monsta X, NewJeans, Kara (I listened to step so much last year it was a bop and still is)
Most Streamed Soloist(s)?: Agust D, Jin, j-hope, RM, Woosung, Jimin, Jungkook, Kai, Taeyeon, IU, Young K
I took these off my spotify 2023 list so there might be some artists whose one (or two) song(s) I had on repeat lol 👀 italics means I listen to the artist a lot, and not just one song on repeat hehe
Top K-Pop Song(s) Of This Year (Opinion Or Streaming, You Choose): People pt 2 feat IU by Agust D!!!! such a lovely song. the whole album is top tier! especially Amygdala <3 Standing Next To You by JK is also a very good song, honestly speaking I didn't expect JK to debut as a soloist with a full-English album but nevertheless it's a bop. also Queencard, what a power anthem. Set Me Free by Twice! and Jihyo's Killin' Me Good... the list goes on and on
Top Debut This Year: I am so bad getting into new groups akdhshjd so I don't know... besides who debuted in 2023??? my sense of time is so bad and I tend to just cling onto my old faves. recommend me some maybe?
Choreographies You Learned: does it count if you kinda know them in your head?? lol I had an idea to start learning different chorus choreos by myself but then life and mental struggles happened... maybe this year (she says every year)
Albums/Merchandise You Bought: D-Day by Agust D, Indigo by RM, Me Myself & Suga photofolio, BTS Beyond the Scene book, Shooky pc folder book, Cooky stickers, does SKZ season's greetings count if it's in the mail as I pre-ordered it last year? + BTS Memories of 2021 as it was on discount... my savings are like bye girl it was nice to know you
also I got a Shooky plushie and Suga pcs from a Korean snack box...
New Kpop Mutuals You Made?: I don't think I've made new kpop mutuals this year bc I wasn't that active here but I cherish all my followers, whether mutuals or not ❤️
Tagging: @hansungiee @jcismycopilot @reedskz 💜 and you, the reader, consider yourself tagged if you'd like to do this 🥰

Okay, I ranked all of 1989 Taylor's Version. Keep in mind that 1989 is my second favorite album, I consider it (still) a no skip album, and I'd rank all of the songs as S or A tier, so even the ones ranked low are still songs that I absolutely love! If you would rank these differently, then go make your own damn post. This is mine. 🙂 I love this whole album, and this is just for fun! Okay, let's do it!
New Romantics
Wildest Dreams
Out of the Woods

Is It Over Now?
"Slut!"
Shake it Off

I Wish You Would
How You Get the Girl
Bad Blood

Speaking of jcs, can I have a rating of the musicals/ different versions?
HOWDY, IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED.
keep in mind ive only watched a handful of recordings or productions compared to other ppl but i do have Opinions on the ones ive watched. [cracks knuckles] so:
1. biased maybe because i just watched it but the 50th anniversary arena tour (circa early 2023, there have been other castings last year ik but this year's one is the one i love). i had the chance to go see it bc it was in my state this month and its the latest one i've watched but it instantly blew away all the other versions i've seen. just... the great singing of 1996 london cast and great acting of 1973 movie and creative staging like the 2018 live in concert.... it had everything and there was not a single ball dropped or a single bad or even meh actor or song or artistic decision. i am usually not one to rec ppl to go buy a ticket to an event but seeing it was the best intro to musical theater or live performances i could have ever had and AHHHHHH. sm details of this will stay in my mind forever re: jcs i can't pick one thing to deacribe bc it's Everything and i'd be here for two hours if i tried. it has my FAVORITE ending of any jcs production and idk if any other production will compare to the high intensity emotions and poetics and symbolism combined with amazing singing like this one.
2. have to go with 1996 london cast recording. i havent seen it and idk if there are even any bootleg recordings of it, but the album is The jcs album i relisten to. fucking A+++. again, maybe i'm biased bc this was my first full jcs album (as opposed to random songs), but idk if anything else but the 1973 movie studio recording album can compare purely musically to me. i love how you can HEAR the acting in the emotional singing while also not sacrificing the singing itself (looking at you 2000 movie judas), and idk i feel like it so clearly tells the story in the tone even without being able to see it, and that's fantastic. every other jcs production in terms of singing and audible acting gets compared to this one, for me. this is the one i hear in my head when i remember or mentally sing the lyrics.
3. 1973 movie. carl anderson. first official filmed jcs production. 70's outfits. meta narrative. do i need to say anything else? this was my second jcs version i consumed when i Got Into It and man im glad it was. when i first watched it, it seemed kinda just alright (probably bc im not a huge fan of movies from the 70's or 80's), but the further time goes on the more i realize this is kinda just The jcs. the classic jcs. i said 1996 london cast recording is what i compare everything else to musically, but i feel like this version is the one that every other version has to live up to. simple question: is your jcs production better than carl anderson painfully crying out "he won't listen to me!" on a mountain in the desert in a fringe outfit as jesus steps out of a tour bus, yes or no? and most of the time the answer is no.
i'm not a huge fan of older movies but the acting and music in this is top tier, the costuming is fun most of the time, the sets are neat, and the underlying metanarrative about an acting group performing jcs inuniverse for a film or smth is rlly interesting. it's the only other jcs album i have saved in my music folder besides the 1996 london cast recording. 9/10
also as a judas fan this is also the judas i compare every other judas to bc... goddamn carl anderson covers every base. desperation and anger and righteousness and tenderness and pain and bitterness and longing.... he has the range. and honestly it's got my favorite version of Superstar so far. i don't think anyone else has topped carl anderson's version yet.
4. swedish arena tour (idr the year). amazing casting, AMAZING acting, fucking incredible costumes, great singing. the only reason it's this far down this list is bc i prefer other character interpretations, but like, the appeal of bisexual vampy switch jesus who flirts with most of the apostles inbetween his main love interests of biker milf mary magdalene and legolas-in-a-mesh-shirt judas... simply cannot be understated. pretty much every artistic decision is 7 or higher out of 10. it's a very consistently good production, and a very gay one. i like the swedish translated lyrics also.
5. 2000 movie. i think everyone knows by now how bad this one is but it's so campy and jcs is inherently ridiculous as both the appeal and the concept that it loops back around to being good. it's not my fave version but it was my third jcs version and it was honestlly rlly fun to watch. what it lacks in singing, it makes up for in acting. i think Heaven On Their Minds, Everything's Alright, This Jesus Must Die, The Last Supper, and Superstar are the numbers that shine here. i think this movie is actually my favorite versions of everything's alright and this jesus must die. i really like the symbolism they try to use in this one. ik i said i genuinely think the acting makes up for the singing, but this might be higher if judas actually SANG. or if pilate was less sympathetic bc i actually hate this pilate djdjfj this version gets points for being much less antisemitic than other jcs productions with the priests, and then immediately loses them by being noticibly more racist than others in the temple. also my favorite peter is in this one. his acting in the last supper is like 25% of my enjoyment of this version.
6. 2018 live concert. full disclosure, i haven't finished this one yet, but i love it so far. i love the outfits and the staging and the energy and casting. this singing is not my favorite and i'm genuinely not sure if john legend knows how to act or if they just cast him bc he's john legend (i'll find out in the second half ig bc i also didn't like the acting of the 50th anniversary tour jesus in the first half and THEN--) but judas does a good enough version of heaven on their minds which is my main criteria for judging a jcs production in personal likes and i do Love the meta themes of casting a real superstar singer as jesus christ given the themes of the musical. i like the dynamics between judas and mary in this one. i think judas is in the closet in this one which is very sad but his outfits absolutely make up for it. it is a spectacle and a half and i'm enjoying it so far. it might get bumped up to #5 depending on how the second half goes.
7. original concept album. i know it's very weird putting the origin of the whole thing at the bottom, but that's not because it's bad, it's just not smth i'm in love with as a whole. i do need to relisten to it--actually i will do that today--but it was really good the first time i heard it, i'm just not a fan of the sound of early rock and prefer the way various versions adapt the music in progressively more modern times. objectively talented singing tho and heaven on their minds goes OFF. i may have more takes after relistening, but that's it rn.
8. i've listened to a bunch of other tidbits of assorted performances, mostly judas solos, bc as i said, i judge a jcs production by its heaven on their minds performance and i went scouring through classic and modern versions of that at one point. this is not part of the proper ranking bc i haven't listened to them in full, but i wanted to mention them here at the end. if anyone wants a list of my fave recs of that to look into:
original mexican cast (1975)
original japanese cast (1976)
mexican revival cast (1984)
original russian cast (1992)
original czech cast (1994)
jesus christ surferstar (2003)
all female jcs recording (2022)
most of these albums can be found just uploaded on youtube or even spotify which is very cool, please check them out, i had fun skipping thru them.
and uhhhh there's all the versions i've watched in full, or mostly watched, and a few of the ones i've done neither! ik this is very long (longer than i intended) but i hope this is what u were looking for and was entertaining or helpful!!
#salute emoji#my post#jcs#ask#thank u for sending this ask i got to gush abt jcs productions#rlly hope this is at all what u were asking for fjfnfn
