After the shift of the laast temporary night guard ended with a niche washed up celebrity being wheeled out of the premises in a scooter covered head to toe in Monty merch the company was in need of a new night guard to fill in the role. Luckily someone just so happened to be looking for a job and saw an advertisement for the position.

While Ryuji wasn't hurting for cash thanks to his current roommates bringing in plenty of revenue from their jobs (not to mention their moonlight escapades) but the former athlete was feeling like he was pulling his own weight. Akira had his streams and was generally very popular, and Yusuke's art career was booming. But aside from the occasional part time work Ryuji was odd one out of the trio with most of his time spent at the gym or at home.

"Sheesh this place is big, don't they serve pizza here? The hell is all this security for?" The blonde asked running a hand through his hair as he swiped a key card attached to a name tag/neck strap and made his way inside. Closing hours had passed but the nightshift wouldn't officially start for a few minutes, luckily he managed to get here early.

Inside, Ryuji would see the brightly lit neon of the pizzaplex's entrance, and the security stop office where he could activate his faz-watch for the nightshift. The same faz-watch that allowed Ryuji to check the cameras throughout, and have full access to all the pizzaplex's services.

It's. He figures it out with the thieves. It's during the Kaneshiro Palace that he's having, uh, "girls night" with Ann and says something like "aha but all girls wish they'd been born different society right" and Ann stops and just, hand on their knee, and

"Hey, have you ever heard of being trans?"

"What? Yeah, but- no, everyone thinks that way-"

"Makoto,,"

"...no,,"

"I'm sorry I brought it up-"

That first panic of someone who was refusing to accept they weren't just experiencing the same struggle everyone else was but was weaker

Ann hugs them, asks softly if they want to talk more about it, and Makoto just crumbles, sobs into her shoulder,

Ann: you should tell the guys. I'm sure they'd love to help you discover yourself

Makoto: I don't, want them to hate me,

Ann: they wouldn't, and if they do? Fuck em. We can get by without them

Makoto: thank you,,,

It starts small. They refer to him with male pronouns in the group chat, and they all notice it's having an affect on his metaverse self, and Ann softly calls him King one day, and Makoto's lip wobbles cause it feels so much better,,

Spare clothes kept at Leblanc so he can feel more like a guy during Thieves hang outs. Akira and Ann come together and order him some binders, and Ryuji gets him a hat, so he can fuck his hair up and he crushes them all in hugs

Yusuke helps him with voice training tips, and just shrugs and says his roommate at the dorms does it as a CIS man to sound more manly, so clearly there should be no issue with Makoto doing it too

Futaba, newly recovered: wassup t boy

Makoto: ...what did you just call me?

Futaba: you wreak of trans boy swag, Mako. Oh, has anyone ordered you a dick yet?

Makoto: Uhm. I'm overwhelmed. Please slow down

Futaba: ...OH whoops my b lmao

And. He eventually has to tell his sister. He knows this. He can't be jumpy when doing his laundry cause he's afraid she'll see his new boxers, or anything, and he's starting to crave having them when he's home, and he doesn't wanna just have them stashed at Leblanc-

But the timing sucks. It sucks so bad, so, he sucks it up, and the others do notice, of course they do. It's just after the summer trip, they're all tense cause they're gonna have to go after Okumura, and he doesn't wanna be a burden

But. Ryuji offers him a place to sleep if he needs it. Boys nights, if he wants. Ann is willing to lie to Sae if need be, anyways

So. His stuff moves, to Ryuji's, where he spends any night Sae isn't home, which gets more and more frequent

Ryuji's Ma? Adores Makoto. She punches his cheek after Ryuji's, gives both boys a kiss on the head, and never messes up on his pronouns. She's a "Woke Warrior" mom all the way. She asks Makoto one morning, while Ryuji is showering, if they're dating. Makoto stutters out that no, he likes girls, and she just smiles, and thanks Makoto for being friends with her son

With each passing day, his metaverse self gets more and more masculine. He wears his binder when they go in and BAM. flat chest. He starts when he realizes hes wearing it, and struggles in his leather fucking suit, but he laughs out with tears in his eyes. The perception stuff? Man. He's got a fully flat chest. And he nearly jumps around like a lunatic when he packs in the Metaverse for the first time

Morgana: this is just more proof you've found your true self, King

Makoto: thanks, Mona,,,

He starts looking into HRT on his own, during the Okumura palace. Part of it is he knows he wants to transition physically when he's in college, and able to survive without Sae if she disproves. But, part of it is, he wants to become the man the others all see him as.

And. Maybe part of it is he wants Haru to keep calling him handsome,,,

The thieves are all so hella supportive of him, and he feels so fucking loved,

It's during a Gal and Pal night (he and Ann didn't wanna stop their hanging out and renamed it), he asks her if she thinks he has a chance with a girl "like Haru" and Ann just gasps and shakes her hands all "OH MY GOD YOU *DO* LJKE HER"

Makoto: i-its not a big deal, I've liked girls before-

Ann: but still!!! Oh my god, I'm going to be the best wingwoman ever, you are going to woo her panties off, mister!

Makoto: ...take it down a notch? I, just wanna make her smile,

Ann: fine, but we'll get there!

Meanwhile.

Haru: so. Tell me everything you know about Mako-kun and what he likes.

Ryuji: huh? Why'd you need to know that?

Haru: oh, no reason. I just want to ask him out, kiss him-

Ryuji: oh eff, now I have to give you the shovel talk! I'm his honorary brother, but you're damn scary in the Metaverse, Eff,,,

Haru: I love your beanie, Mako-kun

Makoto: thanks, Ryuji got it for me, since I can't get my hair cut without alerting the school, or Sis

Haru: I think it makes you look so handsome~

He gushes to Ann with a red face and gooey smile, and she just chuckles and ruffle his hair,

"Dear brother, you've got it bad, huh?"

Ryuji tries to be sly and ask him about it, to feed info to Haru, but he ends up sitting on his bed while Makoto just rambles on about how pretty she is and how nice she is and he just sends a text that says "yeah. You got this girl"

Makoto finds it easier to flirt as King. King is his idealized self, along with his sense of rebellion, all bundled up into this spiky, leather bundle. It's easier to feel more confident in himself when he *feels* like himself in his body, and he believes it easier when Noir trails fingers down his shoulders and calls him handsome as she thanks him for holding open the Mona-van door for her

They don't date for *months*. It's only during the third semester that things come to a head

Makoto is still just Makoto. He never told Maruki about being trans. That's what ticks him off; his dysphoria is *gone*

He calls Haru in a panic and "I feel like a girl. And I don't hate it. What's going on"

The illusion shatters for them both, and while Akira is tossing and turning on it, they bond. Spend nights together, talking, and Haru calls him him, head on his shoulder, and he admits he's *mad* Akira is taking so long. Making Haru act like things are okay with Akechi, and she just. Stares at him.

"You're, thinking about that? About me?"

"Of course,,,"

And. It's what breaks the dam. She kisses him, and he flounders for a moment, but when she pulls away and *looks* at him, he just pulls her in again

They're kissing, up on the roof at the Niijima place, and Makoto laughs a little between kisses, as Haru gasps a little,,

"I've been wanting to do this for *months*,"

"Oh, silly boy,, me too,"

He's got his beanie on. She's cupping his face, fingers dancing over the slight freckles, and they both look so, so in love,

She sleeps over. She has been for a while, cause she can't stand Being in that home, with, him,, But that night, it's the first time the two of them cuddle up. She kisses at his jaw, sleepy, and he presses his cheek to her hair,

Haru: there is one thing I want to do, before we go back to our real reality

Makoto: is it something with, your dad?

Haru: no, no. It's, with you. I want to spend a night, in the Metaverse. Just, me and you. If, you get what I mean,,

Makoto: h-huh?

Haru: just,,, it'll be a long time before you have a body you love that much, and- I want our first time to be, when you're most comfortable. Most you,

And they have one special night, in a cognition room somewhere, where no shadows threaten them, and then the world is brought back. There is no more Metaverse, (for now), and, they both have college to prep for, but it means the world to him that Haru suggested it. He got to have such a special first time, and he made sure she had just as good a time,, a

Makoto proudly telling the others just before Akira leaves that he's finally getting on T, and that Sae has been reading so many books and reports on trans people and how best to support him, and he's so happy,,

Plus, he gets a single room in his new dorm, which will be perfect for having his girlfriend over

Ann: wait. GIRLFRIEND

Haru: oh, we forgot to tell them, didn't we

Ryuji: NO WAY, NO EFFIN WAY

They get bear hugged, and Makoto laughs so freely, and gosh,, just a year ago he was so alone, and probably depressed, and repressing so much,,, and now, here he is. With a best friend, a pseudo brother, and a girlfriend,

And then there's the summer Makoto,,, with his voice cracking all over the place, a splash of acne, and he looks so *happy*, A fresh hair cut, 6 months on T, he's doing AMAZING

Plus, he and Haru are still doing great,, she sleeps over in his dorm a few times a week, and they have study dates, and regular dates, and they both seem so much more, settled. Haru is staying with the Niijima's while they're back in Tokyo for the holiday, and the first night there Makoto takes her to have dinner with the Sakamotos, and Haru ends up nodding off while Makoto and Ryuji catch up and game

He shows up for summer in a leather jacket, white t-shirt, a small spiked choker, and black khaki shorts, with his big stompy boots. He ditches the jacket a lot when theyre not indoors, since, well, it hot and he finds he's sweating more, and just. He and Haru have matching earrings, and she's wearing a collection of nice rings, and he beams when he holds her hand in public, fingers entwined just right, and Man. This is the life,,,

His first time back in the Metaverse? He pauses, pats at his chest with a smile, and. Stares down at himself.

Ryuji: you good, bro?

Makoto: y-yeah,,, never been better,

Futaba, who has no tact: BOYS GOT HIS DICK BACK

King feels much more at ease with shorter hair, too. Riding on Johanna is exhilarating when he can feel the wind rushing by along his scalp better,,

Plus, now Haru isn't as reserved about cuddling close to his back as they ride together. He definitely missed getting to have flirty banter with Noir,,

Oh, and when he stretches after a long stretch of driving? His "baby" happy trail shows as his shirt lifts up

When he and Haru come back to Tokyo for the summer break, Sae smiles at him at the door, and hugs him tight.

Haru: thank you for letting me stay with you, Sae-san,

Sae: I should be thanking you for taking such good care of my little brother

She ruffles his hair as he squawks, and his voice breaks, and they both grin at that,

The book itself was lovingly packed and came in safely. It came with two cute omake. I always love seeing different "thank you" cards from artists. I usually see stuff like that when I order off of booth. The print quality is wonderful. It reminds me of some Dark Horse soft cover prints. The story and art are wonderful. The line art is very much on point. They really nailed Ryuji. He can really be such a hard character to draw. The ending was a chief's kiss. The boys are just adorable. I can not get enough. I look forward to any of their future books.

Koteno is the ultimate dancer and was based off two thing, Ryoma hoshi and another content creator's oc, kioshi ryuji (I think that was his last name, he was made by @thecryptidwizard please go check them out, their art makes me so happy!)

Eliza was made first, made to be shipped with Ryoma and not much has changed except her personality slightly, she still likes Ryoma!

Koteno Ushami: The ultimate dancer

Fanfic Ideas I'll Never Get Around To #30:

A What We Do in the Shadows-style fic called What We Do in Shibuya. Ann, Ryuji and Akira are vampire roommates. Mishima is their familiar; Akechi is the vampire hunter who keeps bursting in trying to kill them.

During one of Akira's ethical feeding events (vampire groupie orgies), he meets eccentric artist Yusuke and agrees to allow him to observe the vampiric activities for inspiration.

He doesn't expect the guy to show up with a documentary crew.

i am also working on a project which nudges on some of these ideas so shhh! shhhhhhhhhh

ryuji

successfully gets through rehab and recovers enough to launch into a pretty decent competitive track career, which he does for a while, but i think he retires early after deciding he doesn't want that to be his life forever. while spending time with ren doing volunteering, he realises he really enjoys working with kids, so he picks up some qualifications and becomes a gym teacher and track coach for kids. i think for ryuji when he gets older he gets more and more disgusted with the person kamoshida was when ryuji starts working with kids and struggles to understand how anyone could treat them so poorly when ryuji just loves them and wants to help them thrive. anyway he becomes a deeply beloved teacher and coach, basically what someone like kamoshida could have been if he'd been good instead of shit, and spends the rest of his life doing that. he and ren are roommates for a while but he eventually moves out to pursue his career.

ann

she finishes out the game pretty ambitious so i do think she launches into a successful international modelling career. after gaining some notoriety in that space and building up a ton of experience and good contacts i think she starts branching out into launching her own fashion and beauty lines. eventually i think she should become the editor of her own fashion publication too... the others see her on billboards and in magazines and on buses all the time. briefly dips her toe into an acting career after being invited to a film but her performance is so poor she wins an equivalent to the golden razzie which she shows up to accept in person laughing and gushing about what an honour it is so everyone loves her even more for it although she decides not to continue acting after that. important to me is that she gets new cool haircuts. imagining her with close-cropped hair. like not exactly a buzzcut but getting there. she's an icon. she splits her time between LA and tokyo and has apartments in both places but usually prefers to crash at ren or makoto's place in tokyo and be a loving nuisance to them for a while

yusuke

i feel very strongly that yusuke needs to experience the world and branch out because the game kind of goes "yusuke's personality is art" which frustrates me as 1) to be a good artist i think breadth of life experience is valuable and 2) i want yusuke to do fun things. so i think yusuke postcanon tries to immerse himself fully in art for a while but then has kind of an existential crisis about his work feeling superficial to him despite his successes and so he ends up going on extensive sabbatical backpacking around the world and meeting lots of people and experiencing new things and then returning to pour his newfound knowledge of life and wisdom into his art and reaching new depths and takes the art world by storm. and also he always has money for food forever. starts out with an art foundation but eventually gets his own studio apartment which lies abandoned while he's gallivanting. haru furnished it

makoto

to me makoto is one of the characters who finishes the game with the most growing left to do, which makes her really fun to explore postcanon, personally. anyway i think she does become a cop and does it for quite a few years but before long starts to get extremely disillusioned about the work she's doing until she eventually hits quite a severe depressive spiral about the direction her life has taken. then sae and her friends talk her out of her crisis by convincing her that it's never too late to change your life. so she quits her job and in her late 30s/early 40s she goes back to school and gets her law degree and eventually becomes a criminal defence attorney. she also figures out that she is gay. i think this takes her less time than the cop thing but still like probably longer than she'd care to admit. lives alone with a pet. i want to say she either has a dog or some kind of cool reptile like a bearded dragon.

i have a running joke with myself that akechi puts her onto r/overemployed and so futaba has like six or seven remote IT jobs at major companies around the world, none of which know about each other, all of which she does from the comfort of her house. anyway she gets loaded off a series of extremely good and mysterious investments that she refuses to explain so she's mostly just working for fun. gets back into hacktivism also mostly just for fun. sometimes she anonymously drops entire indie games for free online which go viral without fail. moves out on her own in adulthood but still spends most weekends and days at sojiro's and has a WFH office set-up in his house which he complains about and doesn't mind at all.

haru

so i think haru spends a long time working to restore okumura foods to the vision that her grandfather originally had for it and does succeed to a good extent in the sense that it becomes a more ethically-run company with an improved reputation, but okumura foods is a major global corporation and by nature it just cannot attain that local mom-and-pop vibe that her and her grandfather wanted. so i think after a while she retains her shareholding in the company but gives up her directorship to other trusted board members and uses okumura foods as a launching off point to branch out into starting her own much smaller company, which she keeps local and runs herself, and it does become the well-loved community hub she always wanted it to be. doesn't live in tokyo directly because she prefers quieter areas on the outskirts but commutes there merrily all the time to work and see her friends.

sumire

i personally don't think sumire ever achieves her and kasumi's dream of being number one in the world. i think she competes at an international level and comes very close many many times before she eventually comes to peace with that, decides that that's enough for her, and retires from competition. for a while she follows a similar path to ryuji and becomes a children's gymnastics coach, but after a while of other people encouraging her that she could be applying her skills to more competitive pursuits just in a different way, she eventually becomes an olympic-level professional coach and ends up helping many of her students achieve her and kasumi's dream in their stead. also doesn't live in tokyo but visits frequently and has an active whatsapp chat running with ren and akechi on top of the thieves chat.

akechi

decides he's had enough of being dead after a minute. takes a gap year and starts college at the same time as ren. studies law and goes into criminal practice, but bounces between defence and prosecution before getting fucking sick of it and deciding to quit law. he starts his own small private detective agency instead. years later he writes a book and eventually re-enters the media world with a significantly different image to his detective prince years. is surly the ENTIRE time. somehow this doesn't hurt his popularity. no longer has a food blog. moves in with ren after ryuji moves out but not initially romantically, just as roommates with a Tension that makes everyone else extremely uncomfortable

ren

i think ren struggles for a while to work out what his career should be before he eventually figures out he is not the type to get fulfilment from his professional life, and wants to focus more on what he's doing in his personal life, which is helping people. basically after graduation he moves back to tokyo and goes to college and changes his mind a whole bunch of times before eventually settling on some kind of psychology/sociology degree, but then mostly just continues doing a lot of part-time jobs to keep himself afloat while he figures out his life plan. during this time he starts getting into volunteering and social work and spends more of his time working with vulnerable and at-risk youth, basically whatever will put him in most contact with people who need him in a non-paid capacity. eventually when sojiro is set to retire ren takes over leblanc and runs it peacefully as his day job, and the rest of his time is spent on non-profit work. living with akechi.

morgana

the damn cat lives forever. the sakuras and ren's parents have a shared custody agreement. he disregards this and spends most of his time with ren. he and akechi are fine with each other but do not get along vis a vis homemaking decisions mostly because morgana has opinions about their lifestyle choices and akechi doesn't take well to being told where to keep his dishes by a small creature without thumbs.

Speaking of Ryuji... I ended up going through like 60 fucking reviews (WILL throw up if I have to read even one more) and while I'm gonna hold my tongue on all that for now, I still can't quite tell if the Ryuji thing is main story or a substory or a substory that's needed to progress... that said, apparently there are a bunch of fights with fakes that feature flashbacks, including a fake Kiryu and a fake Nishiki? Weirdly the flashbacks make me kind of wish there was a fake Mine since I'm not sure there's gonna be anything all that deep with the style change mechanic in Infinite Wealth

it can get even worse Watch This the exam i thought i was gonna have wednesday was today :))))))))))) when i say i had to fight every urge to just get up and start flipping desks :))))))
