You can be the boss, daddy.
Tumblr media
Don't be fooled by the title. This is an innocent slow burn of a fiction with a hint of sweetness and a slight hint of sexiness. A sprinkle of cuteness here and a sprinkle of Hugh just being a sexy hardworking actor and father there and a sprinkle of you being hired to live with him and take care of his children and him Just completely FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOU.
Warnings:
this story will eventually involve dancing and singing with Hugh to Taylor Swift.
A double date with Ryan Reynolds and Blake lively
Slight sexual references
(This is only part one. The pilot shall we say. So don't get too excited... or disappointed...)
Much love, hugs and kisses angels 🤍
Nanny. The job title didn't seem all that Glamorous.. If anything thing it made you sound dated and ugly unlike your best girls. Beauty therapist. Photographer. Fashion coordinator. You? A nanny. Why was 'fake mother goddess' or 'mama angel' not a thing? Because let's face it, you were absolutely gorgeous 'goddess' like and kind and soft like an angel. You were qualified to care for children to the highest standard possible, registered to take on any parenting duties professionally. Technically a fake parent or again fake mama goddess (if it could be a thing) but unfortunately you withhold the title Nanny because that was your job, Nannying.
You hadn't long started out, not really looking for any long term commitment so recently you settled for families who only wanted short term childcare then off you were onto the next. Now it was back into your interview phase, this time looking for something more permanent, something more meaningful and fuffiling with a higher pay. This is where rich families come into play. So many perks.. expenses all paid for, a roof over your head, money you could save and save and save and all while doing a job you loved. (Untill you were ready to live up to your ultimate dream job in future)
It was back to the interview process through your trusted high end private and professional agency and you was sick of all the same shit.  All interviews played out the same. A quick face time chat on either teams or zoom only to end up disappointed. The parents would sit and ask questions for a while while You sat innocently with your sweetest smile, answering politely and accordingly. You were the most patient person but what a complete waste of precious time! Every interview this week was the same and all that never went any further because as the agency woman kindly explained 'they wasn't sure because you only qualified a year ago and are looking for someone with more experience' or the best one 'so sorry honey, They were looking for someone more old and the last thing the wife wants is a young and attractive nanny around the house. We get the request quite often, It's an insecurity thing'
You roll your eyes every time and giggle in amusement at the wife thing. Kind of sad they would feel threatened to have a hot nanny around the house, I suppose you could blame porn I guess.
You tapped at your little office desk eagerly, eyes fixated on the MacBook screen before you. Your leg bounced nervously. The last zoom call in your sqedual today. You read over your notes beside you, neatly written in a baby pink book with the quote 'trust the timing of your life' In gold on the front. It was a quote you always swore by.
'Always trust the timing of your life' and 'trust in the universe, the universe has got a plan for you'
The amount of ex boyfriends who thought you were crazy.
'well look at me now' you muttered under your breath. 'independent woman and all that'
"Well that was actually a good answer to the first question I was planning to ask" a deep Australian accent spilling from the speakers of your MacBook.
With your eyes wide, you throw yourself back slightly in your seat, taken back from the unexpected voice. The realization hit that the parent who you could potentially work for is on the other end and witnesed your ramblings and now you feel shocked, stupid, unprepared and nevervous all at once.
"Oh gosh hi.. umm.. um.."
You shot a glance at your notes one last time to take rememberence of his name quickly.
"Mr Jackman"
Your eyes focused on the blurred screen.. why did the connection have to play up now out of all times?
"Oh it's Hugh, You don't have to call me Mr Jackman. It's nice to meet you y/n although I can't really see you at the moment. The connecton is not the best where I am right now"
"And where are you right now Hugh?"
You mentally face palmed. That was too abrupt and forward and would you class that as unprofessional? Probably.
"I'm currently backstage at a talkshow and so luckily my manager has managed to squeeze some time in for our interview.. I'm so full up this week but I need to sort my childcare situation out ASAP but I shouldn't really rush into it, it's kind of a big thing but I'm kind of up to my neck right now.. and sorry that was way too much information and it probably sounds stressful and now I've probably put you off but I was so impressed with your documentation and you sound really really lovely and good and professional and suited for my children"
Although you couldn't see the man, you sensed a chaotic smile during his ramblings. He sounded charming, sweet, funny, honest. You had a good vibe off the way he sounded, so rushed yet so happy, so stressed but so excited.
"No it's okay" you softly resured "Mr Jackman.. I mean.. Hugh"  you giggled (so unprofessional, right? Or are you just overthinking)
"Is there anything else you would like to ask besides now knowing I'm an independent woman?" The nervous joke referring back to the start of the zoom call was unnecessary. Your heart was racing at this point, scared to mess the interview up but it was interesting. It seemed a little different, Not just because the screen was gittering out from the bad connection or the fact that the man is backstage at a talkshow (interesting) or because of your words just slipping out of your mouth and embarrassingly getting caught off guard. No, it was different because it made a change from a snobby couple nit picking at you with the wifes face painted of jealousy and hatred as if you were snow white and she was the wicked witch. Nah, screw jealously and insecuritiy, the annoying rich family who wouldn't even value you as their nanny. Let's hope this guy was divorced with a job fixing cars or something...
"Hmmm, I'm so sorry, I haven't really prepped much for this...and I haven't got long before I get called out.. this is me at the moment.. HECTIC! I have a really demanding job and busy schedule.. its just not possible to bring my children up on my own and how can I do that when I'm constantly busy, a parent with full custody but can hardly parent! Would you believe that?"
Your heart sank at his honest words, practically pouring his heart out to you and you could tell it was broken. Whatever the situation it was draining him and he was under a lot of pressure right now and you could suddenly sense it, even behind a screen.
"Hugh.. this is what I'm here for and this is exactly why you are doing this and there is nothing wrong with that. You clearly care by hiring a nanny to help support and raise your children for when you need to do what you got to do which provides for them and I'm sure you are an amazing parent! You clearly are by doing this for them, knowing you can provide them with that extra care and support, it will be good for them"
You wasn't sure how long he had left untill he was called away but you couldn't help but reassure him with a lengthy moral support talk. You showered through your caring and supportive demeanor and professionalism which earned bonus points for you for sure.
"Honesty that means a lot to me it really does.. thank you y/n, you are an angel! before I get called away I just want to quickly say that I need someone who I can trust, someone who's young because my kids will definitely keep you on your toes, you know.. someone that can keep up with them.. take really good care of them as if they were their own and support them while I'm away. I really think you would be the perfect nanny but obviously we will arrange a trial week or a real meeting or something and see how things go.. that's if me and my little cubs suit best for you and that you could commit to it of course"
He sounded almost breathless now and you couldnt tell if it was nervousness, excitement or both.
"Of course Hugh! I'm happy to look more into the information my agency has sent about you and we can go from there. I'll need to wait to get a confirmation from my agency for things to move forward since you would need to confirm with them if you were interested or no..."
And just like that the zoom call ended.
You snapped back in your chair almost shocked and now disheartened.
Was it the connection? Did he have to go? Did he end it deliberately only showing a slight interest just to be nice. So much overthinking. Maybe it was just the connection.. maybe he had to go and didn't have time to say good bye. That was enough shitty interviews for one day. You slammed the MacBook screen down harshly with a sigh. Bed time it was.
All night you were tossing and turning, over analyzing the last interview with the very chaotic Aussie on the other end. You even thought of getting up recent talk shows on your phone to see if you could find this Mr hugh Jackman.. he seemed to have a familiar ring to his name but you were never the one to obsess over any celebrities so you wouldnt have known any different if you seen him. He was definitely rich and he was definitely famous for something.. either way you wasn't sure what had happened during the interview and you wasn't sure if you would be hearing of this Hugh Jackman again. Tossing and turning losing sleep over it all was a complete waste of time if you had known that in fact the meeting got cut off due to poor connection and that Hugh got called at that point anyway! the poor man screwing his face in concern between the laptop and the backstage staff trying to usher him on stage. "Damn" he called out frustrated and jogged on to begin his talkshow, a mental note in his head to get in touch with the agency asap to accept the next steps and offering you the nannying job.
The tables turned when It lead to a restless night for hugh also. Tossing and turning and overthinking the way you did, he couldn't shake the impression of coming across as rude due to the sudden end of the zoom call which in his defence wasn't his fault but how were you to know that?  He had a good feeling about you and he was sad to lose the chance of you potentially becoming his childrens nanny. First impressions are everything and you was everything in such a short amount of time. He just had a good feeling...

Characters that share the same voice as Smokescreen!
(That I personally find interesting)
- Deadpool (No, not Ryan Reynolds. Though hearing him voice Smokescreen would be funny.)
- Fish from Cat and The Hat Movie (I forgot he had a voice)
- Hades in God of War (O.O I'm just scrolling through his voices, but imma have to look into this one)
- Hank Pym (This is from 2006, so not too recent)
- Ghost Rider in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (another voice I want to hear)
- TMNT 2007 Raphael (This was a video game, but still cool as heck)
- Nathan Drake (I saw the Uncharted movie, it was cool. He probably sounds really cool in the game)
- Goldar (In a power rangers video game? I grew up on power rangers)
- Desmond Miles (Don't know much about Assassin's Creed, but I think he's an important character)
- Sideswipe (Transformer: Rise of the Fallen)
- Stoick (How to train your dragon video game, and other media)
- Brawl (Transformers: War for Cybertron)
- The Penguin (Batman video games)
- David from The Last of Us (I feel like Smokescreen would be horrified)
- Skylynx (From the same continuity as Smokescreen. The giant Predacon shares Smokescreen's voice. They need to talk.)
- The Kraang (2013 TMNT)
- Superboy (Don't know much, but I can see Smokescreen being Superman's kid)
- Engineer (TF2 short, Expiration Date. TF2 is really funny)
- Green Goblin (Video game. Is the voice actor good at deep, creepy voices? That would be scary if Smokescreen talked like that)
- Leonardo, Shedder, Splinter (He voices a lot of TMNT characters, this is in a video game btw)
- Tony Stark (In a some games... And Fortnight)
- Ghost (Destiny seems like a cool game)
- Metroplex (Transformers: Titans Return)
- Chrome Dome (Transf- wait... What do you mean this is another TMNT character?)
- Modi (God of War, guess there's more than one. Is Modi the head?)
- Asmodeus in Scooby-Doo (Isn't he the devil of lust or something?)
- He's background characters in ROTTMNT...
- Superman (A few different media)
- Joker (Scooby-Doo and Krypto too)
- Swindle (Transformers: Earthspark)
That's a lot of voices...
EDIT: Well fuck... He's really good at terrifying. Smokescreen would be a very scary villain just with his voice alone.

First thoughts from just one watch under shitty circumstances with bad internet and worse sound:
RAMBLING FRANK vs RUSSIA THOUGHTS
I was very worried about this episode with how sacred the S5 DENNIS System episode is to us all. Didn't want a Thunder Gun 4 situation on our hands and thankfully they avoided it so hard! I think having the plot with Charlie, Frank, the mums, Uncle Jack and chess really helped out to make it feel more than a direct sequel.
SINNED -> DENNIS -> SINNED -> DENNIS — I'm so impressed with this. How did I, a wholeass Sunny fan, miss this for so long?! Three cheers to whoever came up with that inversion, really! Definitely something that happened in the writer's room and made everyone lose their shit for sure. I wonder who it was, could be Meg or another writer too, given how collaborative they all are!
And can I just say, Dennis the Restaurant Manager... oh how I love you so much! The Waitress is Getting Married is a personal favourite of mine and I wasn't expecting a bit of a redux of that whole situation.
I was so worried about all the "Mac getting a boyfriend and it being Ryan Reynolds" theories and I absolutely wanted none of that. Everyone had speculated it to death and it wouldn't have been fun anymore (not to mention I do not care for RR in my Sunny, I'm sure he's fine, but I don't need his and Rob's PR relationship filtering through into my dickandball show no I don't "find them cute" and I won't elaborate here anymore).
I know we'd guessed that Johnny could've been Dennis catfishing Mac, but it definitely felt like we were doing an Insane Fan Speculation more than anything — and for it to turn out to be correct! And in the best way, because we never could've seen the vibrating anal beads coming!! That's the best kind of "called it but it's still unpredictable".
It really broke my mind, this episode did. And don't even get me started on the Macdennis and queer Dennis of it all! As a longtime believer in Bisexual Dennis, I won so hard! All of us Queer Dennis Truthers won so fucking hard!
[Unpopular Take incoming] This is the first Sunny episode credited to Meg for writing that has felt so wholly "Classic Sunny" and super fuckin hilarious to me. I always appreciated her understanding of the characters and she's always a very solid writer, but this is the first time where I felt myself thinking ok, you she write RCG/Hornsby/Marder-Rosell/Chernins-level of an insane chaotic Sunny episode with multiple belly laughs and not just slightly Community-fied versions of the gang.
The closest her writing has felt like true Sunny to me before this was Dee Day, so I'm glad to see her grow and improve too, and I wonder if the podcast rewatch has helped in that regard! Must also help to have a classic S5 structure to play off in The D.E.N.N.I.S. System! (And ofc writing is collaborative, so well done to RCG and all the writers who pitched ideas and rewrites that ended up shaping this episode!)
I knew Heath Cullens directing meant a good chance of some interesting camerawork (and I've gotta say that even The Gang Inflates had some more dynamic shots than we've been getting in some of the later years and it's got to be the Cullens directing), but I wasn't expecting a whole visual callback to Being Frank! Loved it.
And the editing! The DENNIS System has always been great for cutaway gags and fun little inserts, so I loved seeing that carried out here with the cuts to Mac and Dee fucking up their dates and then finally pulling out the Magic Tissue of Mummy Issues (oh the potential for meta especially with the twins!). The pacing was so good!
Sunny pacing needs to feel like Mac crashing Dee's car into a wall while we are all Charlie watching it in real time and screaming when it's over.
Random strings of words because I'm too excited to be coherent:
Glenn's acting. His faces. His eyes. His range in this episode. Glacting. Juilliard. All the hits. All the big ones.
Mac and Dennis have canonically had sex in two different ways now, and yes, I'm including their sex tape/porn viewing sessions where they both masturbate together
Did Dennis pull out Mac's anal beads when he was asleep?
Vibrating fucking anal beads what the ACTUAL FUCK!
How many people did the gang drug again?
Danny DeVito with a vibrating asshole comedy acting 12/10 he's an international treasure for a reason
Dee stealing people's phones she's so stupid and bad at men. Never change Dee.
Uncle Jack though, pls change plz, I'm an IASIP loving degenerate so I laughed in horror at his creepiness ofc as I have since 1x7 but fucking hell man, can he be in his jail era already! Poor Charlie!
Hey, Charlie's got new America's just as we were promised on the pod
Oh I should make a post about everything we saw in this episode and that episode of the pod where they gave us all those hints, especially Meg talking about struggling with this cold open — added to the never-ending list of drafts and posts that will hopefully one day make it onto the blog yeah I'm lying to myself now
Parental issues everywhere this season, especially with the mums. Reynolds kids, I can't wait to lovingly put you under my microscope. Once I've rewatched this episode with good sound.
Also just in general, the SINNED system just says SO much about our babygirl's psychology, does it not? Why did so much of it sound like self-insert speeches, like he's been doing this to Mac or smt? Don't even talk to me about The Gang Chokes!
What does r/iasip have to say about— no, I'm in my happy place, I'm not even gonna go there.
Mrs Mac and Mrs Kelly watching TV together like that, they really are lesbian life partners.
Dennis blue shirt with top-stick between those buttons, my beloved. I am looking, respectfully.
And can we talk about the "opening the ketchup bottle" scene? We have to take about that scene! Dennis... he's ruining me... need to gnaw on him and suck on his fingers wait I'm browning out...
Sidenote: I love whenever the show references news stories which were super fucking big at a very specific time in a very specific niche, especially with my whole family being so chess-obsessed. The cheating scandals and anal bead… never thought I'd see a Sunny crossover but can't say I'm not loving the shit out of it!

So I just watched Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. (Rented from Redbox)
It was good and I really liked it. If I could just change one thing it would be this. Spoilers I guess but it’s been out on DVD for a bit.
I think it would’ve been hilarious, if at some point there something like this happened….I’m not sure where, but somewhere before something ridiculous happens, like when Doric changed into the owlbear and smashed Sofina around. There’s a zoom in on Doric and she says, “I Hulk Smash Sofina into the ground.” and there’s just a disembodied voice that says, “pardon?”
Cut Away gag. 5 random big name actors sit around the table, I’m talking like Ryan Reynolds, Matt Damon, Natasha Lyonne, Anne Hawthaway and like Brad Pitt are sitting around a table. (Sort of think how in the later Thor movies Matt Damon is playing the actor playing Loki just cause cameos. Pick and choose who it is but I really like especially Ryan and Natasha as I think they’d both have fun)
Natasha: “what? I grab Sofina and just smash her into the ground repeatedly like Hulk did to Loki in Avengers.
Ryan (who I picture is playing Ed): “that would be funny”
Brad (disgruntled DM) “don’t encourage her, by the Anne roll a D20”
Anne: “wait, why?” *rolls* “4,”
Brad: “okay we’ll get back to that,”
Natasha: “I rolled a 19 on my strength check, plus I get a +4 in owlbear shape”
Matt and Ryan: “Hulk Smash Hulk Smash Hulk Smash”
Brad: “okay fine”
Cuts back to the movie as normal.
Then maybe change the mid-credit scene. As much as I found of funny, change it to this.
Cuts back to the table.
Brad: “okay I think that wraps up this session. Should we end the campaign here or should we find another quest?”
Matt: “I’m not giving up my character. I just got some killer artifacts.”
Natasha: “yeah I love my Druid”
Anne: “it would suck to stop here after we wasted the stone on me. If we were going to stop my character might as well have stayed dead.”
Brad: “okay next session, how does Monday night work?”
Matt: “I can’t, I have a late shift,”
Brad: “okay Tuesday?”
Natasha; “I work at 5am on Wednesday, I can’t stay out too late.”
Brad: “so Wednesday night will be out too cause you’ll be out by 9. Thursday?”
Anne: “Date Night,”
Brad: “Friday?”
Ryan: “My daughter has a dance recital,”
Brad: “and my in-laws are coming on Saturday through Wednesday morning for 4th of July on Tuesday”
Cuts back to the credits but you continue hearing them in the background instead of music for another 90 seconds trying to find a date. The music fades back in before one is decided.
I just think it would have been really funny. I get that in the middle of the movie it might take away from the whole one dying and the sacrifice Ed makes for choosing not to revive is wife and reviving Holga instead (which by the way got major Onward vibes from that. The whole “I never had a dad but I always had you.” Sort of being Kira never had a mom but always had Holga) if we know they aren’t real, but I really feel it would have really made it a D&D movie having actual dice gags and the whole not being able to plan a session.
Anyways, good fun movie. Might buy it so I can watch it again. I could totally see in the movie parts that were totally crit fail and successes.
I’m thinking seeing the trailers made me really finalize wanting to play it. I do a small campaign with one other person who plays a character and DMs and we have a lot of fun.
Anyways, sorry for the long post. But that’s what I thought.

[Transcript] Season 5, Episode 1. Deadpool & Wolverine - Spoiler Review
The Stereo Geeks are back with Season 5. And we've got a big review this time: Deadpool & Wolverine. Ron and Mon had mixed feelings about the film. There's a lot of fun to be had but this film isn't nearly as good as it could have been.
In this spoiler-filled episode, we discuss the moments we enjoyed, areas where the film could have been improved and what we think this film means for the future of the MCU.
Listen to the episode on Spotify.
Tumblr media
Ron: Hello and welcome to Season 5 of Stereo Geeks. We’re kicking off this season with one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year: Deadpool & Wolverine. I’m Ron.
Mon: And I’m Mon.
Mon: For our review of Deadpool & Wolverine, we’re going to start with a non-spoiler review and then move into spoilers. We’ll let you know when the spoilers are coming.
Ron: Shall we open with our anticipation levels for this film? I was filled with trepidation.
Mon: I was stoked. I mean, I knew what I was getting into — R-rated, lowbrow humour, a lot of gore, generally silly stuff, but I guess I was really missing seeing a Marvel movie on the big screen for this long, so I was excited!
Ron: I’ve found that over the last few years, I just don’t have the stomach for certain kinds of humour. I will turn it off. I found the humour in Deadpool 2 so cringe and the jokes dragged on for so long, it was honestly frustrating. I was concerned that this film would do the same, hence the trepidation.
Mon: I feel you. Deadpool 2 was bad. It was dull and boring, and the humour didn’t work. So, that was a concern going into Deadpool & Wolverine. Also, Ryan Reynolds now has so much clout that I had a feeling it would impact the quality of the end product.
Ron: True. Reynolds does get in his own way. Having said that! I really, really, really, really wanted to see Wolverine. Especially in that gorgeous yellow suit. I rewatched all the X-Men films last year, except the Deadpool films, and I finally saw the appeal of Wolverine. Wolvie starts off as this gruff man with no interest in connections, and he slowly transforms into a man who cares too much—about Jean, Storm, Charles, Rogue, even Scott in some way. I don’t think I appreciated that before because I was more interested in everyone else but Wolverine. But yes, by the time I finished Logan, I was a certified fan and completely in my feels. The thought of seeing Wolverine again after so many years, I honestly couldn’t wait.
Mon: I really should have re-watched the X-Men films, because I think the moment’s gone now, especially with X-Men ‘97 Season 1 stealing my heart. I was interested in seeing Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine, for sure — maybe not as excited as you though.
Ron: Right. I don’t think anything X-Men-related has captivated us like X-Men ‘97 has. But did Deadpool & Wolverine meet your expectations, if not your hopes?
Mon: Yes and no. As I said, I knew I was going into an irreverent film with lots of bawdy humour and violent action. That’s what we got. But I expected to bawl my eyes out at the sight of any X-Men, and that didn’t happen. That’s on me, why did I think a Deadpool film would make me cry?
Ron: Ohhhh. I didn’t expect that at all so I saved myself that disappointment. It wasn’t like watching Days of Future Past where I was losing my mind every other second. It didn’t help that I found the first half of this film so very slow. It dragged, honestly. There were so many scenes that felt overlong—the same problem that I had with the second film! The whole focus of this film was to get to Wolverine but it took so long to get there. The moment Wolverine appeared, the dynamic of the film changed. There was an energy to it and Deadpool finally had someone to riff off of who wasn’t going to take his nonsense.
Mon: I’m sure there was more improv in this film than they’re letting on, because my word, every joke started off ok and then was dragged to death, which not only kills the humour, but brought the pace to a stuttering halt.
Ron: Agreed. At numerous points, I was like, please just get on with it. Or, we get it, you’re trying to make this joke. There’s repetition for humour, and there’s repetition because you’ve run out of ideas. This film thought it was doing the first, but kept doing the latter.
Mon: Any momentum the action scenes gave us just disappeared because of the extended stand-up routines interrupting them. And like, the action here is brilliant! It’s some of the best we’ve seen in the MCU in a long time. Slick and sexy — great camera angles, perfectly edited, and they conveyed a lot about the characters’ personalities despite essentially being a gore fest.
Ron: The action was amazing in this film. It starts off with a huge action scene. I know Deadpool 1 did that, and really set the tone for that film. I can’t, for the life of me, remember if the second film did the same. Also, Deadpool dancing during the opening fight scene made me very happy. I love dancing and somehow seeing a superhero dance warmed my heart.
Mon: I love the opening credits fight scene. It’s definitely a thing in the trilogy, but this one looked particularly fantastic. And Deadpool’s suit — chef’s kiss to the design team!
Ron: Good point. I’m so in love with Wolvie’s suit, I didn’t even think to mention that Deadpool’s suit looks stunning.
Ron: One more thing to add about the opening sequence. Do we all remember the vitriol about She-Hulk dancing? Do you recall people responding, saying if Deadpool was doing this, people would be claiming it as the best thing since sliced bread? That’s exactly what’s happening! People are loving Deadpool dancing. I want to give Marvel credit and believe that they added it in just to highlight this dichotomy in reactions but I don’t think that’s what’s happened. But the sexism amongst fans is just infuriating.
Mon: She-Hulk does everything that Deadpool does but without the gore. But because she’s a female character who was introduced later in the franchise, she is criticized instead of lauded. It’s sexism and misogyny plain and simple. Fact is, She-Hulk broke the fourth wall in comics before Deadpool was even a thing. It doesn’t help that she was highly sexualized — because dudes created her — so she didn’t find her audience properly till later on.
Ron: True. True. We’ve probably got to mention that Deadpool & Wolverine is extremely gory. Like, whoa, from the opening scene, it’s just blood and guts everywhere.
Mon: Too much gore.
Ron: Did the gore bother you?
Mon: Uh… not to the extent that I had to look away. Because I was expecting it. I get gratuitous violence is the thing that Deadpool fans are looking for, but I wouldn’t have minded them toning it down a tad bit.
Ron: Right. I expected it to be much worse than it turned out to be. I tell ya, some of the preview trailers before the movie started grossing me out, which is probably why Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t bother me.
Mon: Ah! You were inured to the actual film by then, huh?
Ron: You could say that! Also, I’ve spent this year watching stuff like Shogun; I should be used to gory scenes by now.
Mon: You know what actually annoyed me? The dick jokes. Ufff… that was really too much. Like, get over it, man! Enough with the butt shots and the butt slapping, etc. Who in this film wasn’t making some weird joke? At least, they could have varied the types of jokes. You can tell that 5 dudes wrote this film. There are a lot of in-jokes and references, but other than that, it’s a 12-year-old boy’s idea of being edgy.
Ron: I know we’re expecting Deadpool to be foul-mouthed, but this movie pushed the limits for me.
Ron: But speaking of dick jokes, this film leans into homoeroticism. Lots of scenes with Deadpool and Wolverine physically close together. Male and female characters show romantic interest in both Deadpool and Wolverine. What did you think about that?
Mon: I clean forgot about the homoeroticism. It’s again, very much in the vein of hint-hint-wink-wink, we’re being naughty because we can, and very little to do with actually appealing to queer audiences.
Ron: Yes. Despite Deadpool being hailed as a pansexual character, he’s really not been great representation for the queer community.
Mon: Exactly. So, what did you really like about this film?
Ron: Wolverine. I’m very distracted by his presence. But if I look past Wolverine I think I liked that this movie reiterates that people can be better than their worst day. It’s the one bad day idea from Batman, isn’t it? Joker has one really bad day and becomes a villain. Bruce Wayne has one bad day and he becomes Gotham’s hero. It’s similar here. Wolvie had a bad day and made a terrible decision but that doesn’t mean he can’t be a hero. It’s about the choice to do good.
Mon: Yeah. I really liked the theme of the story — it’s not about what a hero is or wants, but why a hero is. I loved that. It gave Deadpool a roundedness that I didn’t know I wanted to see. I also loved how the film uses the ending of Logan as a foundation for telling the story, as well as saying goodbye to pre-/non-Disney Marvel films.
Ron: I realise I wasn’t concentrating on Deadpool at all. I’m going to have to go with your summation.
Mon: I really loved Hugh Jackman stepping into the role of Wolverine like he’d never left. He loves this character and we love him playing Logan. I did feel he wasn’t moving as well as before, which is expected since he’s a lot older, but man, the pathos, the burden, the complicated tragedy of being Wolverine in any world, but especially his world, it all came across with little to no context. The writing and acting shine when it’s centred on Wolvie.
Ron: Not moving as well? What? He was great. He looked great. He fought well. I know he’s been working out like a mad man. And he’s going through a divorce. None of that came across. He was great! The lovable grumpus to Deadpool’s sometimes annoying goofiness. Standard roadtrip fare except with spandex.
Mon: There were definitely one or two scenes where Jackman wasn’t moving that well so we can agree to disagree. My last thought on this is — it takes a lot to keep a straight face and look grumpy when you’re in a goofy movie with a goofy co-star, and Hugh is so dang good at doing that in this film.
Mon: Before we start on spoilers, do you have a one-line review that audiences should consider before heading into this film?
Ron: Go for Wolverine, patiently wait for Wolverine, enjoy watching Wolverine.
Mon: For me, I felt like there was a perfect film about what makes a hero hiding beneath the surface of Deadpool & Wolverine, one that got drowned out by the terrible quip-fest created by the egos involved.
Ron: Wow, we went for completely different vibes with our one-line reviews.
Ron: Anyway. Let’s move into the spoiler section of this review! If you haven’t seen the film yet, please watch it now because we will spoil everything!
Tumblr media
Mon: Deadpool & Wolverine is about Deadpool trying to save his world from temporal annihilation and he needs to find Wolverine, any Wolverine, to ensure his world’s survival.
Ron: Please explain to me why we’re following Deadpool from Earth 10005? There’s no Deadpool on Earth 616? And who is his Wolverine? Not the one from Logan, right? I got confused because I thought the TVA was after Deadpool because he went back in time to change his past and save Vanessa, played by Morena Baccarin in a tiny, thankless role again. But that’s not why the TVA wants Deadpool; it’s so that he can save the anchor person, a new concept introduced in this film.
Mon: Ok, so it seems that the Fox X-Men franchise (and the rest of the 20th Century Fox superhero movies) are set in Earth-10005. Hence, Deadpool is from that universe. Logan is also set in that universe, so Deadpool’s universe is disappearing because of Wolvie’s sacrifice. But, Mr. Paradox, played by Matthew Macfadyen, wants to speed up the destruction of Earth-10005 and hence he brings in Deadpool.
Mon: There’s understandable confusion about where Deadpool is from because early on in the movie he’s on Earth-616, talking to Happy Hogan about joining the Avengers. It seems like he used Cable’s time-traveling device to get to the Sacred Timeline. Time travel and dimension-hopping aren’t one and the same, and I don’t remember exactly what rules the previous film established about the device, but we do know that Deadpool came to our Earth, in the past, and shot Ryan Reynolds in the head so he wouldn’t make Green Lantern — so we know he can dimension hop. Now, how he knew about 616 and the Avengers, I don’t know. This is more a nod to Deadpool idolizing Steve Rogers in the comics than a fleshed out story idea.
Ron: Thanks for the explanation! But I am confused about one other thing. Deadpool and Wolverine get sent to the Void by Mr Paradox, who uses a time stick to disintegrate them. We’d been to the Void before, in Loki Season 1.
Mon: Yeah, that’s odd for me too. Because, wouldn’t that mean a lot of dead people in the Loki show are actually alive and wandering the Void aimlessly?
Ron: Exactly. And why are so many mutants there? Cassandra Nova apparently was kept there since childhood, but Psylocke, Toad, Deathstryke, Sabretooth? What did mutants do to deserve this?
Mon: Variants, mate. Notice how most of these mutants/Morlocks don’t look like the ones we’ve met in the films before.
Mon: There are some aberrations in the mutants, obviously, like Dafne Keen’s Laura, Aaron Stanford’s Pyro and Tyler Mane’s Sabretooth.
Ron: Yes, exactly! That’s what confused me. I was also wondering about Johnny Storm. He mentions that Reed had a theory about the Void, so did the 2005 cast get yeeted to the void when Fan4stic came out?
Mon: I didn’t think of that, but that makes so much sense.
Mon: Essentially, the creative team are telling us that these people, especially the ones we recognize, are part of worlds that no longer exist — because the Fox era has now ended. That’s also the same for the unproduced and finally cancelled Gambit film, so we see Channing Tatum here, and the wish fulfillment one like the Cavrilline with Henry Cavill. It’s all symbolic, mate.
Ron: Okay, that makes so much more sense now. I couldn’t figure out why these characters had been banished to the Void. Please explain the Cavillrine to me. What the hell is this?
Mon: So, the Cavillrine — you know how the internet latches on to good-looking white guys who they feel have been hard done by? Well, Henry Cavill is one such guy. Look, he’s been through the wringer with Warner Bros. He was Superman in some of the worst Superman films out there. Then the whole Snyderverse nonsense that heralded the end of the DCU. But then he showed up in Black Adam and it seemed like he was back. Except, he wasn’t. It must have been pretty humiliating for him to announce his return as Superman, only for the rug to be pulled from beneath him. Sure enough, the moment the DC door closed on him, the internet fancast Cavill as every single superhero you could think of — one that caught some steam was Henry as Wolverine. Till this movie, I couldn’t see it, but you know what, Henry looked kinda cool as Wolverine here. But it only works as a two-second gimmick, I don’t think he could carry a franchise as Wolvie.
Mon: Did you figure out who it was before he turned? I knew it wasn’t Hugh Jackman, because we initially only saw him from the back, but I really couldn’t have guessed who it was till I saw Henry.
Ron: No, absolutely not. It looked like Wolverine from Origins, especially with the bike. So I was wondering what Deadpool was making such a fuss about. And then he said ‘Henry’, and when Cavillrine turned around, I realised who it was. But I had no idea that Cavill as Wolvie had been on anybody’s wishlist so it was just an odd moment for me. Also, the editing was weird because they were trying to drag out the moment.
Mon: Yo, let’s not skip over Channing Tatum as Gambit. Can we talk about it? I was so disappointed to see Tatum, I thought it was Taylor Kitsch reprising his role from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but it turned out to be Tatum. Booo. I don’t think he did a bad job — he works as a joke. But this isn’t our Gambit, is it?
Ron: I don’t really know what to say about Tatum as Gambit. It was a joke. It was meant to be a joke but I don’t understand how a film can have a Gambit, any Gambit, and not give him some level of pathos. Such a strange choice. Moving on!
Mon: Let’s also talk about the anchor being concept. Was it even needed? Some people are getting upset about this concept because it means that some lives are more important than others. This is a completely new thing introduced in this film — while I don’t know if we can take it seriously because this is a Deadpool film, some people are saying it’s already been hinted at being used in the next phase of the MCU.
Mon: Either way, here’s my thought. Don’t take things so literally, people. The concept is introduced as symbolism for how Fox pinned their hopes on Wolverine launching a franchise, and for a bit it worked. Bad writing, bad studio decisions, then took it all down.
Even beyond that, the idea that the universe is rigged so that the majority are doomed because of one white guy is… hilariously on point and a reflection of the real world. In truth, some lives are treated as more important than others and it’s horribly unfair. I don’t think the film is trying to be that deep, but it sure feels that way.
And finally, the main reason for Earth-10005 dying is that Logan was never supposed to die. He acted against type, against nature, and that’s why things changed. We explore a similar theme in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, but there it’s the canon events, and it’s more personal. This isn’t a hugely original idea, but it certainly works for the symbolism of this film.
And it’s very clever to bring in the TVA and have B-15 from the Loki show connect to the events of the Loki finale. It’s utterly poetic — Loki, a villain, makes a heroic sacrifice which saves the multiverse, here we learn that a hero, Wolverine, makes a heroic sacrifice that leads to the destruction of his universe. And a hero and villain combined then save it. It’s wonderful!
Ron: Thank you for tackling the anchor being idea. I was not bothered by it but I guess others were.
Mon: I know we’ve critiqued the pacing already, but I need to emphasise just how disappointing the pacing in this film makes the viewing experience.
Ron: But somehow The Marvels was the end for all women in superhero films? I can’t help but compare this film with the ones that we loved and were vilified. People complained about Eternals being slow and full of exposition, to the point where we will never see those characters again, apparently. But this film is packed with exposition and nobody’s complaining about that!
Mon: Oh, I agree with you. Seems like the MCU dies every time a non-white non-male person comes near it, but it’s saved when the white dudes are involved. Quality be damned.
Third act
Mon: Let’s chat about the third act of the film because I think this is the best part of the film — good execution, pacing, and some surprising heartfelt moments. It’s not all perfect, there’s still way too much unnecessary silliness, and yes, it’s super gory, but it was also riveting.
Mon: That denouement, especially, really got me. They really play with your emotions because we think Wolvie is going to make the big sacrifice play, which makes sense for him having lost everyone, but then Deadpool decided to be the better man and swaps places with Wolvie so he can finally matter. And then, Wolvie joins Deadpool, because Deadpool didn’t think things through and couldn’t reach the other MacGuffin. I mean, I loved it.
Ron: I don’t mean to be a spoilsport but the denouement felt silly to me.
Mon: This is an outrage. How are we not aligned on this film?
Ron: I agree with everything you’ve said, I just don’t think the film had to go there. Obviously there was only going to be one way to save Deadpool’s universe and he had to be the one to do it because this movie is called Deadpool & Wolverine, not the other way around. So why not make the sacrifice play together in the beginning? Cement the relationship that we’ve spent two hours watching unfold.
Mon: You make a really good point. They were trying to up the drama.
Ron: Indeed. But again, my struggle with this film and the second film was that it kept adding in extra beats that weren’t necessary. Destroys the emotional heft and slows the pace.
Ron: Now, you and I have always had our ears out for film scores. The last few years, the scores have left us wanting. There might be a theme or two that stands out but the entire album? Not so much. I did like some of the score for Deadpool & Wolverine, though. Deadpool has a new theme which sounds epic, though I’m confused about the cat screech in between. There are no cats in this film.
Mon: I didn’t clock much of the score while watching the film, except the end credits music which sounded cool. I’ve heard the score album now, and I kinda dig it. Though the cat screech still gives me pause.
Ron: What about the soundtrack? I know you have thoughts!
Mon: Most of the song choices seemed totally incongruous to me. Some of them are such meta jokes, that it’s lost on the average viewer. For example, there’s apparently a song from The Greatest Showman in here, which is an obvious nod to Hugh’s role in the film, but  I don’t know how many people would even recognize it. The first fight scene between Deadpool and Logan in the Void is set against AC/DC, and I’m like AC/DC, again? Give me a ruddy break. They’ve been done to death in the MCU, look for someone new. I mean, look at the number of awesome songs and artists we’ve learnt about and listen to because the music supervisors on Black Panther and Birds of Prey looked beyond the usual.
Ron: Lets not forget the soundtracks of the Spider-Verse films. Those are incredible.
Mon: How could I forget the Spider-Verse films. I play those albums on loop.
It wasn’t all bad with Deadpool & Wolverine, but I didn’t find the soundtrack all that memorable. The one song choice I did like was Bye Bye Bye by *NSYNC. I do enjoy the song, but this is another meta joke. In X2: X-Men United, when Wolverine is rescuing Rogue, Iceman and Pyro, Pyro puts the car radio on and it blasts Bye Bye Bye. It’s a hilarious moment that cuts the tension and solidified my love for the song. So, of course a film re-introducing Pyro should have that song. Except, they don’t play the song in relation to Pyro. Like, why? Imagine if Pyro had driven in with this ruddy song playing? Oh my word, we would be on fire! This film, I swear, is so frustrating.
Ron: Madonna’s Like A Prayer playing over Logan’s abs though. That was perfection.
Mon: Music aside, you can feel the too-many-cooks-in-the-kitchen feeling whenever Dogpool shows up, or the fact that Dogpool showed up at all. What is Dogpool trying to show us here? It’s just a funny bit. That time could have been spent with Wolverine and Laura, because if you want us to see that Logan’s walls are coming down, him opening up to Laura and coming to fight by her side would have done a much better job of that than a dang dog.
Ron: I could have done without the dog.
Favourite Cameos
Ron: We’ve got to talk about all those cameos because Deadpool & Wolverine was packed with them. For me, the numerous Logans were great to see. The brown and yellow suit Wolverine, I would’ve loved to see more of him.
Mon: I did not know that Deadpool & Wolverine was Fanservice: The Movie, but I loved seeing the different versions of Wolverine. Honestly, could have done with a few more of those variants — I don’t think that would have been overlong. I loved that they included Age of Apocalypse Wolverine, but I wish he’d been a tad more sinister.
Ron: You know who wasn’t a cameo in this film? Taylor Swift as Dazzler. That is the only thing I’ve heard about for months and it didn’t even happen.
Mon: Thank Uatu! I don’t think I could have dealt with that.
Ron: The survivors of the Void were probably the biggest cameos for me. Seeing Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Wesley Snipes as Blade, unbelievable that they came back for this movie. Which is essentially a farewell to these versions of the characters. I’m assuming we’ll get to see Elodie Yung’s Elektra in the MCU. No idea about Mahershala Ali as Blade because Marvel would rather give 80 million bucks to RDJ than make a Blade movie apparently.
Mon: Yeah, and Wesley Snipes says in this film that there will only ever be one Blade, so I’m guessing Mahershala Ali’s chance is gone. Why don’t they just announce it and leave him be. Marvel’s pulling a DC on Mahershalla.
Mon: Ok, please explain why we didn’t get any other X-Men characters from the Fox films? Someone, anyone would have done. Worst Wolverine has this heartbreaking flashback, and he’s next to memorials with no names, he’s talking about incidents we can’t see. Listen, Hugh sells it, I’m not saying he doesn’t, but given that the film was packed with cameos, some utterly useless ones, Wolvie interacting with the people he loved would have taken the emotions to the next level!
Ron: I know! Halle Berry is right there. Especially during those emotional scenes from Worst Wolverine. We should have got a flashback to him seeing the X-Men.
Ron: I guess we should mention Johnny Storm. Or rather Chris Evans. Because that was not Johnny in the film. It was Chris Evans with flame powers. Ever since Endgame, I’ve felt that Evans has struggled with his acting. Ghosted was funny but terrible. You watched that film at TIFF last year where you couldn’t tell if it was the character or Chris Evans you were watching.
Mon: Yeah, Chris Evans is forgetting how not to be Chris Evans, which is not great. The TIFF film, for our listeners, is Pain Hustlers, and it’s not a good film. Chris Evans’ acting is the least of its problems.
But, on to Johnny Storm. I 100% knew Evans was going to show up. I didn’t know before the film, of course, I wasn’t expecting any cameos in the film. But, when Deadpool is shown the Avengers highlights reels by Mr. Paradox, there was a lot of Steve Rogers in there. Now, this is a nod to comic book Deadpool’s love for Steve, but as soon as I saw them playing that much Evans footage, I was like, he’s going to show up.
Ron: When the hooded figure showed up and Deadpool was talking about he was the hero of all heroes, I was so lost. Who is this? Definitely not Captain America. And then Evans shows up. But as Johnny. The bait and switch wasn’t bad but Evans acting didn’t work for me.
Mon: It didn’t? But he was so fun! You can tell Evans is having the time of his life with this take on Johnny Storm. I genuinely did not realise the Human Torch, of all characters, would be resurrected. He was incredibly fun to watch. I loved seeing Evans back in the MCU, even if it was for a brief minute.
Ron: Not resurrected for long, sadly. While we’re talking cameos, which characters deserved better in Deadpool & Wolverine? Shatterstar, surely? Why can’t Hollywood give Lewis Tan better roles. He has no lines in this film! And Shatterstar is such a fan-favourite character.
Mon: Shatterstar! I love him. I can’t believe Lewis Tan was dragged back to sit in the background. He deserves so much better than Hollywood will ever give him. But, you know what, after the dumb dig about how the X-Force team not testing well (apparently), I was glad to see Shatterstar, even for a little bit.
Ron: And why did Cable get the blame for Deadpool 2 not working out? He wasn’t the problem! Deadpool was the problem. Sheesh.
Mon: Please, I’m glad we didn’t have Cable in this film, but why did Domino get short shrift?
Ron: What’s worse, though? Domino sitting in the background somewhere with no lines, like Shatterstar, or us imagining she’s living her best life without Deadpool in it?
Mon: You have a point. I also wish the main franchise cast had been involved in the main story more. Negasonic, Yukio, Vanessa, Dopinder, CGI Collussus, Blind Al, why were they forgotten? This was Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania all over again. Like literally - Deadpool is even stuck in a different world like in that film and forms different teams. The MCU is running in place, mate!
Ron: Yes. Agreed. You can’t just drop the core cast you’ve been building up for a trilogy. I’d also say I was expecting more Pyro in this film. Aaron Stanford was clearly excited to be back and he’s been posting about it. He’s in the opening credits as well. But Pyro’s role was so small! And I’m not entirely convinced this wasn’t James Cole with the ability to control fire.
Mon: Pyro! I thought I’d cry when I saw Pyro, but I didn’t. And then it turned out he was again a double-crossing baddie? Again, everything about the writing in the MCU, especially by majority white creatives, is running in place. Imagine Pyro getting a heroic sacrifice here? Considering we see no one else from the Fox films, I feel like the treatment of Pyro is a testament to Marvel Studios basically dunking on the original franchise.
Ron: Pyro being a turncoat isn’t a big surprise. Stanford sold it well. He was quite amusing in his final scene.
Ron: But what about Cassandra Nova, the actual villain of this story? First of all, where were the women in this film? We got a bit of Elektra and Laura but wow, this movie is just screaming that it’s only for dudes. Wolverine is probably as popular as he is because of female viewers, but this movie clearly doesn’t want to acknowledge that.
Mon: But this lack of regard for the female characters and heroes from the Marvel films is signposted from the start. Happy Hogan’s office is filled with Avengers memorabilia, as long as the memorabilia belongs to Iron Man and Captain America. Is there more? Can’t see it because the camera doesn’t focus on them. Let’s be honest, Marvel doesn’t care about the ladies, they never have, and it’s little more than lip-service nowadays, irrespective of how wonderful the stories about the ladies are, they’ll be forgotten by the powers-that-be.
Ron: Yes. The only meaty non-dude role was Cassandra Nova. I thought Emma Corrin turned out to be a great choice. I felt like I could almost see Charles Xavier in Cassandra.
Mon: I know nothing about Cassandra Nova, and I was concerned about them casting such a young actor to play the character. Isn’t Nova elderly?
Ron: Nova is Charles’ twin but she’s… there’s some weird stuff about her birth, or lack thereof. So she’s quite wrinkled but not elderly. She’s definitely not as beautiful as Emma Corrin.
Mon: Ah. Kinda weird how all these films keep turning wrinkled ladies into gorgeous women – Madame Web, Cassandra Nova.
Ron: How can dudes have an ugly woman in their film? The more we’re talking about this film, the more annoyed I’m getting.
Mon: Anyway, Corrin did great. They channeled both Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy to make us believe that Nova is indeed Xavier’s twin. I loved that they had a binder on and got to proudly show it off. And the binder also gives their outfit an X shape, which is a nice nod to Nova’s X-Men connection.
Ron: Yes. I did like the nod to Corrin’s non-binary identity in Cassandra’s uniform. Underneath her signature long coat, Cassandra wears a binder. And it’s not hidden. Emma Corrin has spoken about the importance of visible identity and has taken intimate portraits of themself in a binder. So that was a great nod.
Mon: We’ve talked about a lot but was Deadpool & Wolverine a good farewell to the franchise that introduced us to the Marvel world of superheroes?
Ron: Good question! It’s making me remember something. When we first got into the X-Men comics, we absolutely despised the Avengers. They were always awful to the X-Men. The fact that we enjoyed the Avengers films at all is a miracle. But here’s the problem. The MCU is driven by the Avengers. Are they going to have the understanding, the compassion that comes from loving the X-Men? We’ve got X-Men ‘97 that’s such a love letter to mutantkind. It isn’t afraid to lean into the fears of life as a mutant and the intense bigotry that mutants face. Is the MCU going to understand that? Or are mutants going to be the punching bag of the MCU?
Mon: So, where are we going with the mutants? Let’s look at the future of the MCU now. Will the over-reliance on multiverse plots and meta-stories end? Will we ever escape the need for cameos? Will we get creators who aren’t white men behind-the-scenes to build our future?
None of this will happen soon. They need to get these gimmicks and novelties out of their system — it’s fun, I do like it, but I’m missing meaningful stories and storytelling. We see what shows like X-Men ‘97 and The Acolyte can do because they ground their stories in real-world issues and dynamics. The MCU has become very much about pandering and fan-service. Again, that’s not to say I don’t revel in that charm, but we need more!
Apparently Ryan Reynolds first approached Jordan Peele to work on the film but he couldn’t fit it isn’t his schedule. I wonder what that would have been like — what layers Peele would have brought to something that’s so much in his wheelhouse. In another universe, perhaps.
Ron: A Jordan Peele-MCU film? I would like to see that. You know, we’ve had quite a few hints now that the mutants are in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kamala Khan, aka Ms Marvel, has been deemed a mutant. Monica Rambeau is in a universe with Beast and Binary. Wolverine is in this film. So, when are we getting an X-Men film? And are we going to see any of the incredible female mutants who are honestly carrying the comics franchise?
Mon: The best X-Men are women, yeah? But, that’s the problem isn’t it? Marvel is going backwards in its thinking. Are we going to see the Marvels again and the universe Binary is in? Are we going to see any ladies leading? Any people of colour writing and directing? I don’t know, man. The best we’re going to get with the Avengers films is to bring back the Russos and McFeely? Deadpool & Wolverine could hardly contain its fat-shaming but it kept it to the minimum. Are we going to now double down on it with the Infinity War and Endgame people back in the saddle? Are we going to sideline the characters of colour because the white directors don’t understand how meaningful these heroes are to an underrepresented demographic?
Ron: You’re talking about Black Panther and Captain Marvel being underused in the latter part of the MCU Phase 3. The Russo brothers et al apparently didn’t expect these two characters to be popular. Because I guess they forgot people of colour and women exist, let alone watch movies?
Mon: Yes. It’s infuriating. Because what happens now? Are we going to kill off the last few female heroes because otherwise the plot won’t move? I can’t deal with that — and yet we’re stuck. Feige and team have only heard the loudest and worst of the criticism and taken it to mean the white guys must be our saviours, no one else will do.
Ron: I don’t think watching this film following the SDCC announcements has endeared me to Deadpool & Wolverine or the next phases of the MCU much. Because Marvel seems to be saying this is what we’re going to get more of. We tried ladies in the lead and people of colour in the lead. But that didn’t work (because a small group of loud sexists and racists said so) after generations of not trying it anyway. So let’s just go back to the status quo. They’re pandering to the lowest common denominators, again, and giving us the white dude superheroes who make dick jokes. This is a really dour note to end the review on but I’m not feeling hopeful for the MCU. It doesn’t look like it’s interested in us as audiences anymore.
Mon: I agree. As much as we enjoyed parts of Deadpool & Wolverine, it gives us little hope for the future of the MCU. It’s not saved, it just refuses to move forward.
Ron: You’re right. You know what, let’s go rewatch The Marvels.

hiii elly <3
kinda bored lately and wanted to watch something so came here for recs :) could be of any kind btw like movies, tv shows (any language)
also maybe not something from your top ten kdramas post lol i've already watched most of the shows on there
also how're you doing?
hope you're doing well <33
Hey girl hey! Thank you for asking, I'm doing well! Terribly busy, but on the whole things are good. How about you?
Oooh okay this is quite a thing to ask me, I'm going to get decision paralysis dhdvdvdg but let me think of some less-common things I can recommend!
Available on Prime Video.
The Surprise (2015). Also available on Tubi. After inking their own death warrants, an eccentric millionaire and distraught woman fall in love and find voiding their contracts isn't an option. Romance! Dark humor! The k-drama truck of doom, except it's a Dutch movie! (Disclaimer: I do not recommend watching this film if one is suicidal)
From Prada to Nada (2011). A modern Mexican-American adaptation of Sense and Sensibility that surprisingly really works?? The title is woeful but the movie is pretty darn good.
The Lady Vanishes (2013). Iris Carr is traveling across Europe by train when she befriends Miss Froy, an elderly English woman. But when she wakes up from a few hours' sleep, Miss Froy has vanished. As fellow passengers claim the lady never existed, Iris fights to discover the fate of Miss Froy - and prove that she's not going mad.
Love and Friendship (2016). Adaptation of Jane Austen's Lady Susan, starring Kate Beckinsdale. The main character is the definition of gaslight gatekeep girlboss, and the supporting characters are all just. so funny.
To Tell The Truth (1961). If you just want something to distract you that doesn't take a lot of thinking, old game shows are ideal. In this one, a celebrity panel tries to guess which of three strangers is the person they claim to be.
Masterpiece/PBS Passport Shows.
All Creatures Great and Small (since 2020). Season 4 currently airing. A feel-good (but unafraid to get real and sad) show about the misadventures of a country vet practice in Yorkshire.
Miss Scarlet and the Duke (since 2020). Season 4 currently airing. In 1880s London, the daughter of a private investigator decides to take over his detective business after his untimely death. Mystery series that also has just about the BEST opening titles ever.
Available on Tubi (which is free!)
Forever Young (1992). The movie where I realized that Mel Gibson was cute, actually. In 1939, a heartbroken Army pilot volunteers for a cryogenics experiment and wakes up in 1992, where he gets a second shot at love.
The Space Between Us (2017). On his first visit to Earth, a man born and raised on Mars bonds with a street-smart young woman while unraveling the mysteries of how he came to be. To quote my mutual Chris: "wanna cry? 🥰"
The Dick Van Dyke Show (1960s). Some of the stuff hasn't aged well, but this is still one my top favorite old sitcoms. All the characters are so fun and endearing. You probably won't want to sift through all five seasons, so my top episode recommendations are "The Curious Thing About Women" (s1 e16), "The Two Faces of Rob" (s2 e2), "That's My Boy??" (s3 e1), "Big Max Calvada" (s3 e9), "October Eve" (s3 e28), "My Mother Can Beat Up My Father" (s4 e1), "4 1/2" (s4 e7), "The Impractical Joke" (s4 e16), and "Coast to Coast Big Mouth" (s5 e1).
(I got a little too excited with those episode recs, oopsie 🤭)
The Surprise, like I mentioned.
I just found out that they have some episodes of The Flintstones and Tom and Jerry on Tubi, if you want some good nostalgic laughs.
Available on Netflix.
Love At First Sight (2023). Cute romance about taking a chance on a good feeling.
The Adam Project (2022). You've probably seen it, but I will mention it anyway! Time travel. Annoying and precocious 12-year-old child. Ryan Reynolds and Zoe Saldaña. Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo! FIVE STARS.
Trevor Noah: I Wish You Would (2022). The best Trevor Noah special, in my opinion. The curry story??? Iconic forever and ever.
The Full-Time Wife Escapist (2018). A woman takes a job as a housekeeper, but in order to stay in it, she and her boss agree to a contract marriage. If you've ever seen the k-drama Because This Is My First Life... This is the better version of that show, imo. The ML is suchhh a sweetheart.
Indian Matchmaking (since 2020). I never watch reality TV, so I don't know how I started seeing this show, but it's SO good and super bingeable.
Omg the Jurassic Park movies are on Netflix right now
Available on Hulu.
Wild Mountain Thyme (2020). It's a love story, and it's so silly and enjoyable. The resolution is just shdhfhshshsg
The Giver (2014). Jonas learns the secrets of the past, and the utopia he's grown up in begins to look more and more dystopian. Also, Taylor Swift is there for some reason.
Flamin' Hot (2023). It wasn't until I watched this that I realized how much I need movies about Mexican success stories in my life. File this under ✨inspirational✨
If you haven't yet watched The Artful Dodger (2023), you absolutely should. Come for the romance, stay for the absolutely bonkers, insane hijinks.
I barely started watching Timeless (2016), but it looks really fun and good. It's about time travel, unsurprisingly for me 🤭
Available on Disney+
Baby's Day Out (1994). A childhood CLASSIC of mine. The cuteness is just. so much. The humor is standard slapstick, but really fun, and the mom has some of the most gorgeous 90s outfits omggg
Hidden Figures (2016). I love this movie endlesslyyy. Awesome intelligent Black women overcoming the odds, space race setting, and even a side of cute romance.
The Art of Racing in the Rain (2019). Dare I say, best dog movie I've seen?
The Call of the Wild (2020). Another dog movie, with Harrison Ford. I don't remember much of it but I remember really enjoying it.
Milo Murphy's Law (2017–2018). Have you seen this follow-up to Phineas and Ferb? If you haven't, you need to. The comedy is so gold tier and the music slaps.
Delicacies Destiny (2022). I kind of stopped watching this c-drama about 1/3 of the way through, but I totally should pick it up again, and it's worth watching even if just for all the gorgeous food scenes.
And of course, anything from my top ten k-dramas that you haven't seen yet is an automatic recommendation 😌
This got. so long. I hope you find something here that you like and thank you for asking @milkteawithrusk!! This was so fun to put together! 🫶🏼

Ryan Reynolds got married at a former plantation. I thought you were against racism. Ryan does not date Chris Evans so I guess its fine for you. The hypocrisy of you fan girls is of the charts.
Welcome to Wrexham has nothing whatsoever to do with Alba Baptista, how are you even making this connection? It's a docu series about a down on its luck football team in Wales trying to improve in its league standing. It's a feel good story about the people of the town and how much they love their team. It just so happens the team got bought by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. Rob is in the series far, far more than Ryan.
So, are you also going to equate anything Always Sunny in Philadelphia with Alba now, too?

It's 3pm by the time I wake up. I feel groggy. My mouth's dry and my stomach hurts from hunger, I pull out my phone and order a McDonald's meal... or two.
I hop in the shower, forgetting its broken, so i pull my pj's back on and head to Chan's. But before I exit my door i notice a piece of paper on the floor.
It's from chan. He's handwriting is adorable.
'Morning Y/N. I realised I don't have your number and you didn't answer when I knocked on your door this morning so I'm guessing you're still asleep. I really enjoyed last night, I hope I didn't come off too strong.
I just really wanted to kiss you.
I know it's only been a few days since we met, but it feels like we we're meant to be in each others lives.
If you don't feel the same that's cool, I just wanted to put all my cards on the table. I like you and I'd like to take you out on a date sometime. I'm out this weekend, staying at Hannah's, but I'll be back tomorrow night. I'll see you then. Its a date!
Chris x'
Why am I crying?...
Is this the first time anyone has ever said anything like this to me?
Fuck, my McDonald's is here.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I scran down my big mac and chicken legend and crawl back into bed. How I'm I meant to go two days without him? God I sound ridiculous! It's been 5 fucking days and I'm acting like I'm in love. I think I'm just addicted to how I feel around him, he feels like home. The comfort of walking into a warm house after being in the cold outside.
I want to know more about him. All his little intricacies and quirks. I want to know what wakes him up in the morning and what keeps him in bed. To know all about what goes on in that gorgeous head of his. I'm counting down the seconds until I can.
-----------------------------------------
8 pm Sunday evening. I've legitimately just slept all weekend. I did have a video with my family back home. It felt so good to see their beautiful faces! But mostly I enjoyed seeing my cats that my mum put on the call whilst she went to the bathroom. They told me they miss me too.
No one has yet Come to fix my shower. I'll let them off since it's the weekend, but I've been stewing in my post night out smell. I should go round to Chris', but theres two problems with that idea. 1. I haven't heard him return and he hasn't knocked round here.
2. I smell like shit and look like it too. (Very reminiscent of my depressive episodes im prone to, but with out the actual sadness. )
There's no harm in just knocking to see if he's, so I grab my dressing gown and head to his.
I here him talking, but theres no reply. I wait for a moment, he's probably on the phone. He stops talking so I knock.
"One minute!!" He yelled! " I'll be back in a sec guys!" Guess he's still on the phone. He answers, a huge smile appears on his face, he looks back in the direction of his phone and slowly closes the door slightly behind him so we're both in the hallway.
"Sorry is this a bad time?" I ask, slowly heading back to my door.
"I'm just... I'm just doing a live stream." He replies, looking slightly embarrassed.
"Oh yeah your Chans room! I've seen a few" He seems to look less nervous that I'm not judging him. "I just wanted to know if I could use your shower. Mines still broken"
"Yeah of course you can, could you wait just like 40 minutes?"
"Yeah sure! I've waited over 24 hours, 40 minutes won't kill me" I laugh. He brushes his hand through his hair and I notice his bicep flex. I never really noticed it but this man is buff. No wonder I feel safe around him, he could beat up a bear a win. Well maybe not a  bear?
I turn to head back into my room, but he takes my hand stopping me.
"Did you get my letter?" He asks, his eyes shining with hope.
"Yeah I did" I say meeting his eyes with the same anticipation.
" and did you..." I cut him off, bringing his lips to mine. My hand running through his hair.
" does that answer your question?" I tease.
"And all the ones after" He answers, slightly bewildered. "I have to head back in. I'll see you soon"
"It's a date" I reply. His grin has taken over his entire face, giddy like a child.
"It is indeed" He says before closing his door.
I collapse on my bed and open up his stream. God he's gorgeous. He keeps smiling to himself, which makes me do the same. I'm literally kicking my feet and smiling over this man. The chat seems to have noticed too. All mentioning how he seems to have found something outside his room very exciting. He answers them saying a staff member just was asking what food he wanted from the shop.
He signs of with a virtual hug, and now I get to have a real life one. And a shower.
I knock the door again, he shouts that it's open in response. I walk in, naked underneath my dressing gown. I stand awkwardly in his room, not sure whether we should talk about everything now or after my shower. He turns in his chair away from his laptop, his gaze lands on me. I'm suddenly aware that if this thin belt unwraps I'll be stood here bare ass naked. I pull the belt tighter.
"You gonna shower?" He questions
"Yeah, I just didn't know if you wanted to talk about everything properly now or after my shower?" He seems taken aback from my forwardness.
"Now?" He pats on his bed for me to sit down. I follow his direction and sit down opposite him. He wheels his chair closer to me so our knees are touching. A knot beginning to form in my stomach. He puts his hands on my knees. I think I flinch in response because he removes them as soon as he places them down.
"Sorry" He stammered, backing off. I hold his hands, stopping him from backing off too far.
"I'm okay. Its just..." fuck how do I explain this without sounding like a weirdo? "I've got nothing on under here. And well." I put my head in my hands. "I've never been touched in such a gentle way there. I was just a bit taken aback." He's silent. Then his lips curl into a smirk.
"So, that reaction was because you liked it so much?" A raised brow has joined his smirk. I can tell this man loves a good tease. He's gonna be the death of me.
He pulls himself even closer, this time he gently spreads my knees apart, replacing the space between them with his knee. Each second he does this, he's locked his gaze on mine, making sure I'm okay with this. And fucking hell I am. He stops centimetres away from my vulva. I'm glad he does cause im honestly embarrassed by how wet I am from just his smallest touch.
He leans over to my ear, his lips grazing  my neck ever so slightly, inciting goosebumps and a sound from me I'm not sure I've ever made before. He giggles, savouring the state he's got me in. "You should take your shower" He whispers. I snap out of my trance
"Are you saying I smell?" I'm joking but slightly concerned. He laughs, removing his knee and standing up from his chair
"Not at all. I just know you've been waiting to have one. Plus I'm worried you feel like this is going too fast. Cause I am." Chan looked down admitting his feelings. "I don't want you to do anything you'll regret. we haven't known each other long and I know you wanna know someone before you're intimate like that with them". Fuck me. This man may be the most caring person I have ever met.
I stand up from his bed and walk over to him, kissing him on his forehead.
"Thank you. I did enjoy it, please know that." He drops his head, but I lift up his chin with my index finger, "I mean it." I kiss him, deeper than before. I do want him. Just not yet.
I walk past him and head into his shower.

IF Review
Tumblr media
Boy howdy this trailer was baaaaaaaaaad. I was intrigued by the teaser, but I thought that it would only be good if the teaser was hiding something. Then the actual trailer came out, and well, you read the first sentence. I dunno, it just looked like Ryan Reynolds doing his most child-friendly jokes and that was it. Which, I guess if it carries the Deadpool movies, but I expect more from the guy who wrote A Quiet Place, y'know. (Wait, John Krasinski wrote A Quiet Place Part II too? Well good thing I didn't see it and therefore can't delegitimize my claim to his writing quality.)
Then Twitter got mad at this movie. Why? Hell if I know. I can barely stand to use this website, honestly, why would I ever go on that garbage fire of social media platform. Does it have something to do with the premise's similarity to Foster's Home For Imaginary Kids? Maybe, but why is it a problem for two takes on a similar premise to exist? Batman and the Dark Knight have the exact same plot structure and people love jerking those to movies off.
What's The Movie About?
Bea is a 12-year-old girl who becomes a social worker for Imaginary Friends (or IFs hurhurhur) and she teams up with a cynical Ryan Reynolds named Calvin.
What I Like.
Bea. She's a really good character, clearly John wrote this movie with the intention of her being the completely focal character. (He writes really good female characters, as all who saw A Quiet Place can attest.) The trailer made it seems like a stern female who has to be the support/babysitter for a silly guy (Calvin, in this case), but really it's the opposite. Calvin is a cynical and sarcastic character who is only helping everyone else out because he HAS to, and it's up to Bea to show him why helping out the IFs is a fulfilling life. I also really like the message of the movie, but it's kind of a spoiler. Just know if you are perpetually young at heart (or if you're incredibly childish like me) it's going to cut you completely to your core with warm fuzzies. I also got invested in the IFs. Again, I wasn't really interested from the trailer since it didn't seem imaginative enough for me. Like, oh, the imaginary friends are basically a bunch of anthropomorphic things. A gummy bear, a stiffed animal, the guy from the Neighborhood Watch sign. But they give the character little hints of deeper personalities, even if they are on screen for a few seconds.
What I Didn't Like.
...I don't know if I should bring up the problems with this movie. Not because there isn't problems, or even that they aren't substantial. Because there are certainly substantial problems with this movie. This movie completely falls apart if you think about the it for even a second. But it's nothing a kid is going to notice. Or if they did notice, they wouldn't care. The age demographic for this movie isn't going to care that the stakes of this movie are basically non-existent. They aren't going to give a crap there is a twist that comes out of nowhere, or that the rules on how the IFs work make no sense. They're just going to laugh and silly purple monster and be happy when he finds a friend. And is there anything wrong with that?
Final Summation.
IF is a good kids' movie. There is a lot of bright colors, silly characters, and goofy humor that they are sure to get a kick out of. There is nothing for the parents in the audience, true, but I don't think there needs to be. If you are over the age of 15 and are going to see this movie alone, you shouldn't get pissy when none of your perceptions are challenged. And if you're mad about the movie not making sense, you need to remind yourself that one of the main characters in the movie is a giant furry purple creature called Blue. It's not that serious.

CHANDLER LINWOOD || TASK 13 || SHORT & SWEET
What is your favorite book from childhood? I read quite a bit when I was a kid, but the only book series I read again and again was Harry Potter. I know that's such a basic answer, but whatever. I loved the idea of going to magic boarding school in England. I haven't really read them since everything started happening with JK though.
Do you own an item that comforts you when you’re sad? Alcohol. But I just got sober, so I can't do that anymore. I'm not sure. They're not items, but my pets I guess. I have a dog (Jenna) and a cat (Ryan Reynolds). Jenna especially; nothing against RR. But he's a lot more independent than she is. So even if I'm down, I still have to walk her and get out of the house a couple times a day and that helps a lot.
What makes you happy? I love to cook. Finding recipes, buying all the ingredients, and challenging myself in the kitchen. It takes up a lot of my free time, but I don't mind. I try to make something every night, although I usually have enough leftovers that I cook a little less than that. What are three things you like about yourself? I have a good sense of humor. I can't think of anything else though, how fucked up is that?
Which season is your favorite? Winter. Hands down. The snow, the cold weather, the holidays. My birthday's in winter too. I don't do well in the heat, and I don't like hanging out at the beach. That wasn't a problem growing up in the midwest but you Merrockites (Merrockians?) really like your fucking beach. Winter, nobody asks me to hang out there or go swimming or threaten to make me try surfing.
Do you believe in the supernatural? Sure? I do think there's shit going on that humans are oblivious too whether it's ghosts or cryptids or whatever. But I haven't really thought about this topic much, no strong feelings either way
Name a song that has a deeper meaning to you I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I only expect, like, two people to actually get this far. Bosco by Placebo. It's got a weird name, but it's a really bittersweet song and it helped me a lot through my last relationship and the breakup afterwards. What do you think about social media? I mean, I'm on everything. Kind of need to be for my photography business. And I do love a good meme. But I don't even wanna talk to people in person, let alone on my couch when I'm by myself.
What would be your dream job? I don't know. Still figuring that out. Name three things you don’t leave the house without Keys, phone and wallet are all a bit obvious, right? I usually have my airpods as well. Camera if I'm not just going to the cafe, or worried about it getting ruined. What is your favorite comfort food? We have this thing in Minnesota called hot dish. It's literally tater tots, cream of mushroom soup and ground beef. Objectively, it's repulsive. But I grew up eating it a lot and it's kinda nostalgic for me now. Are you an active person? / What do you do to stay active? Hah. Yeah, I'm super active. I walked all around the kanto region yesterday without leaving my bed! Name your three biggest inspirations (people-wise) No thanks. My late uncle, my childhood friend from Minnesota, and Beck. But don't tell Beck. He's already annoying enough without knowing that. What is currently your favorite airing show? I haven't been keeping up with TV much. I have a whole backlog of shows I need to watch....nothing I could tell you is still airing. If you had to go anywhere right now, where would you go? If I had to? My high school sorta-ex-boyfriend had a cabin up in Northern Minnesota we would go to a lot for privacy. It was so nice up there. I haven't visited since I was a kid

you do NOT have to answer this (especially if it’s right) but i have a burning feeling that it’s blake lively 😭 i’m probably wrong i just thought it was an educated guess. i hope all parties involved are all experiencing fulfilling love 💕💕💕

That is a very educated guess!! But unfortunately it’s not her 🙈 I’m not that lucky 🙈🙈 but again— very good guess

4. 7, 26, 28 for the ask game! Hope you’re having a good day ✨
favourite dish specific for your country?
BUNNY CHOW. Weird name, there's no rabbit. basically Indian diaspora communities in Durban invented it as street food, it's a bun with a hollow hole in the middle, filled with curry!! Local KFC's also used to make my favourite (now defunct) meal based on this, the Streetwise Chow, which was similar except the bread hole was filled with a chicken strip and gravy…. RIP Chicken Chow i miss u every day.
I'm also partial to Milk Tart. Also Boerewors Rolls and Gatsbys are my fave streetfood (boerewors is our cultural sausage, and Gatsbys are a HUGE bun filled with meat, chips, and drippy sauces). Mapane Worms and Walkie Talkie Chicken look fun if ur adventurous!
three words from your native language that you like the most?
Choosing my second language (Afrikaans) for this bc there's sooo many emotive words there. Ontploffing (explosion) sounds great when said aloud. the word for "subject" like a school subject, is "vak". The letter V is an F in Afrikaans pronounciation. "Art is my favourite Fuck" :) And finally I LOVE THE WORD AARDVARK. NEVER HEARD AN AMERICAN SAY IT RIGHT. PEACE AND LOVE ON PLANET EARTH <3
does your nationality get portrayed in Hollywood/American media? what do you think about the portrayal?
Rarely, but I have never heard the accent done right. Americans trying to be Afrikaans makes me want to get in the soup. bro wgat the fuck… (every native South African i've seen use their own accent in hollywood is great!! John Kani is amazing as T'Chaka!!) (OKAY I WILL SAY. RYAN REYNOLDS SPOKE AFRIKAANS RLLY WELL IN THAT ONE MOVIE. WTF WAS THAT)
does your country have a lot of lakes, mountains, rivers? do you have favourites?
CAPE TOWN HAS TABLE MOUNTAIN I LOVE TABLE MOUNTAIN. big flat boy. I'm also fond of the Three Sisters, those hills look so weird!! great gas station there lol. UMMM orange river is cool. u will never guess why it's called that (it's orange). We have a lot of mountains i love all of them!! Table Mountain is SO lovely even though it's a tourist trap <3 i now no longer trust a city that does not have a big fuckass mountain at least close by… that's scary… too much Sky
Hope you are having a lovely day!! :D

hey!!!! I know you've done a lot of sebchal fic recs already, but there's something interesting about a setting of young Seb and old Charles, so i wanted to ask you whether you've been reading anything similar and what are your thoughts on that, so far I've only read one called "to be wild to be free" but it has stopped updating ever since seb's retirement announcement so🥲🥲
Anyway i hope it's not too much trouble for you 😘 and appreciate your time and effort
Hello! ❤️👋🏻 No trouble at all, I'm happy to help! Thanks for the ask 🥺
Off the top of my head there's one that fits the bill pretty perfectly. Basically the premise is time travel shenanigans, so a 30 year old Charles from 2027 meets a 23 year old Seb from 2010.
That's kind of the big standout fic in the fandom (that I know of) that plays with that trope. Not exactly the same but I've also read this time travel based fic where Charles jumps through his shared past and future with Seb and it was quite good! I can see the appeal (I mean, there's been a lot of posts/tags in the vein of like imagine Charles with young Seb in his 'bad boy' era so it's definitely an idea that's been going around in the community), and I think it's an interesting concept to explore, but personally, idk. I'm not hugely into age-swapping or gender-swapping or that sort of thing. I think the most appealing thing to me is just them, the way they are, the way things actually unfolded, and how that made them who they are and got them to where they are. (If anything, I'd kind of like to read a future fic with a Charles in his mid to late 30s and a 40-something Seb, or maybe even a bit older 🤔 Just two old men being domestic. Seb having to wear reading glasses when he's reading books or doing crosswords or something. Charles with that Ryan Reynolds-style salt and pepper look 😭)
Actually, now that you've mentioned it, I should probably try and work on an updated fic rec at some point. The thing is I want to rec things I've personally read, and I guess I haven't read that many fics, especially the longer ones, or like started and then never got around to finishing, so I'd have to do some housekeeping first. I'll look into it tho 🤔

So I just watched the Sabrina The Teenage Witch tv movie from 1996. It was the precursor for the TV show most of us grew up with.
It was good. 90s cheese at it's finest! ( :
I was happy to see Melissa Joan Hart as Sabrina still (or eh, I guess it was her first try at the role). And a very young Ryan Reynolds is in it too!
I was a bit taken aback by the different cast for the characters we know and love. Like, Aunts Hilda and Zelda being different. With quite reversed personalities (it seemed). And of course a different Harvey. Sabrina's friend "Jenny" that disappears in the show later wirh no explanation, is it the movie though! She's just being called Marnie instead. I wonder why the name change?
Speaking of those...for some reason she is Sabrina Sawyer in this (???). And she is living in Riverdale. That sure had me going crazy lol If that's the case, where's Archie and the gang? She does mention going "back to" Massachusetts, which is where the tv show takes place. (While the comics and newer show are in Greendale, just outside of Riverdale). But Harvey's in Riverdale and not Mass? Idk man. If they acquired the rights to the character and story....why all the changes that make no sense?
Anyways, it's still a fun watch for STTW fans! Just look at it as some weird and wildly different pilot episode lol That happens to be movie length.
I guess they had great success from the movie, and so we got the show. Crazily, MJH's mother bought the rights to the character from Archie Comics for $1...with her in mind to play Sabrina. Thank God that worked out well, huh? lol It skyrocketed the character into the hearts of many 90s kids! I guess that risk they took paid off! And an interesting little tid bit here. This is the only time while MJH played a "teenage" witch, that she was actually a teenager. She was 19 at the time of this movie.
It's on Peacock if you wanna give it a watch. It's worthwhile for STTW fans, and anyone who loves 90s cheese! (And witch stuff).
Oh and, because this is important... SALEM TALKS!!! (A little). It's just a different voice, with a British accent.
