RWBY is at best a center-right series. There are women and gay people in it, but those women have as little agency as possible and the gay characters only represent corporate pre-approved queerness. The WF storyline sounds like it was written by Fox News and if there is a V10 we're gonna be told that we shouldn't be so mean to the pretty billionaires.

Hot take assessment:

The crazy thing about Ozma, Salem and the relics is Ozma with the relics had options to stop Salem or kill her. But if the roles were reversed Salem with the relics would have no way to stop Ozma. She can't trap him. She can't stop him from reincarnating without destroying all of humanity. All she would be able to do is delay him. Meaning she would have to kill so many unborn children and their mothers just stop Ozma from coming back if he was the villain.

Jaune Is A Bad Boyfriend Material... Wait, Hear Me Out.

1) He will treat you the way you want to be treated.

Despite knowing deep down that you probably don't deserve it. Making you feel awful sometimes.

Don't kid yourself. You will never amount to anything. And having a boyfriend like Jaune will ever change that.

People who paid attention to my blog in recent weeks probably know that July 10-17 was a busy time for people who ship Ruby Rose and Penny Polendina. There were a lot of fanfic of the two of them together, I read most of it (and plan to at least try the rest), and a lot of those fics were specifically set after Penny was turned into a real girl. And I can't understand why.

Now, I don't think Penny being a robot is the only interesting thing about Nuts & Dolts. There's more to the ship than "Girl who likes weapons dates girl who was built as a weapon". But at the same time, turning Penny human both removes some of the things that make N&D interesting and makes the overall story worse.

Cards on the table, I cannot think of a single Pinocchio-type story which I think was improved by having the non-human turn into a human. They're stories about people who were born different from other people, they feel like they need to become normal, and the narrative agrees. "Yes, them being weird was bad; this problem will be resolved in the most obvious, boring way possible."

And this isn't just a canon plot point I think is dumb. This is a dumb canon plot point that directly hits one of the things that I like about Nuts & Dolts. Penny feels isolated from humanity for being a robot, but Ruby doesn't care. She's surprised, but Penny can't even get any decent angst in before Ruby insists that she's still real, even if she has "got nuts and bolts instead of squishy guts".

That sense of being isolated from the world, just because of what you are, but having one person who doesn't care at all? Someone who accepts you for who you are? That's what I see as the core of Nuts & Dolts, more than any jokes about how much Ruby loves weapons.

And having Penny become a "real girl" like Pinocchio before her just guts that.

Anyways. Not all the Nuts and Dolts Week fics with a human Penny were bad; I liked the one where she discovers heatstroke. But broadly speaking, I just...do not get the appeal of writing a story when Penny's human. If you're gonna skip her second death, why not skip the part where she gets squishy guts, too?

(If any Nuts & Dolts authors have an explanation, I'd genuinely like to hear it. I like hearing people with different opinions!)

to this day I think a lot of black sun shipping was because they thought adam was based on the ox demon king and since he was sun wukong most famous enemy that the ship between sun and blake came from just that they think that would make a good paring since clearly blake would be a prize for the winner

Aka Couer al alaran, Blacksun shippers, Jaune x anyone in team rwby, qrowxsummer?

That's misogynistic to the core.

And a ship that is based on or encourages misogyny or the patriarchy?

Is not something I am going to support...ever.

Many of the Blake haters, such as couer al alaran, claimed that Blake was "supposed to fix adam" or "blake owed adam".

They have said similar things about blacksun, sadly.

Not all blacksun shippers are like this. But there's so gosh darn many who hold these beliefs that its safe to generalize such a community.

And the fact that , even with Bumbleby finally becoming canon, people still claim Blacksun can still happen?

That's just disturbing.

So gonna have a really hot take here

I dont really post about the fandoms Im in or enjoy. But this is something thats kinda Irked me for a while.

This is a RWBY and yes I know how the fans are viewed so thats usually why I dont share much.

But

For the fans that want the Whiterose (Ruby x Weiss ) ship to sail all I have to say is; you then have to have Knightfall (Jaune x Cinder) become cannon. The way the interactions are going and the amount of explicit attention they are giving on screen for them. Its the same pattern they did with Blake and Yang just faster.

Weiss initiates physical contact with Jaune and is the first to comfort him in each of the moments he needs it. Not even counting the comedic 'thirst' scene Weiss has shown a lot of specific affection to him, and much more than her team.

I know Whiterose shippers are going to come for my throat but as I said, if you want that ship to actually happen then you will have to also accept a Cinder redemption arc ending with Jaune.

Thats my hot take on this discouse nonsense. You can have your Whiterose as long as we can have our Knightfall!

Hot Take: Penny shouldn't have died. Or at least they should've set it up for Nora to become the Winter Maiden at the end of V7 due to her focus.

I would've loved to have seen more of Penny, and the magical weather abilities linked to Nora's semblance would've literally given us a Goddess of Thunder.

1. Blonde hair, red eyes (when Yang is angry, at least)

2. Both are in their respective positions for the main goal of killing up monsters/beating villains. Saving people is just a nice bonus of the job.

3. Explosive hits, explosions to manuever, gauntlets as a weapon.

5. Both are villainized for their behavior (Yang v Mercury, Bakugou at the Sports Festival)

But Starry, you say, Yang is so nice!

Well, says I, Yang doesn’t have a ranking system that determines how much money she makes and if people like her or not. And I don’t believe she was told she was perfect or the greatest or the best (I’m finshing up S3 now, so I may be wrong) but. Bakugou and Yang, I feel, are extremely similar to each other but they grew up under very different circumstances, especially on the parent front.

I could talk about them more, but I want to get more caught up on RWBY first.

19. you're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like...

...*sigh* Garrett Hunter and Jessica Nigri weren't that bad with their VA work for Adam and Cinder.

Yes, when compared to the rest, their VA working fucking sucks. But the voices fits for the most part. Cinder was a femme fatale for 3 volumes so the sultry thing worked, and in vol 7 I was genuinely impressed when Jessica gets to actually express emotions. She was good! So was Garrett during Vol 6, even if his lines are mad incel-y.

Like, they're not professional VAs, so I'm not gonna put them on the same level as Cherami Leigh or Dave Fennoy, but with a better voicing direction, I genuinely think both Jessica and Garrett could've performed much better than what we actually got.

But personally, I just project different voices for them when I read fanworks. In a perfect universe, we could've had Ray Chase/Greg Chun for Adam, and Wendee Lee/Trina Nishimura for Cinder. Alas.
