I’m thinking about my Spiderman Tucker au again

I’m thinking that the Freelancers work or intern for the Director who’s gonna be the equivalent of Norman Osborn, but mostly just so they can use his tech

They’re also superheroes, not quite Avengers level, but bigger than Spiderman/Tucker. Maybe closer to Teen Titans level ignore that Teen Titans is DC not Marvel

Tucker eventually runs into York at the gym, and they become work out buddies. Eventually Tucker starts working out with all of the Freelancers. They can tell within a week that Tucker’s a superhero too, but they don’t say anything about it until Tucker runs into them in hero uniforms and puts it together that they’re super heroes too, and tells them that he’s Spiderman and it’s a big “you guys can’t tell anyone this, but it’s me, Tucker, I’m Spiderman” “Oh we knew, you’re not good at hiding it”

Oops, I made Tucker a Spidersona (and thought way too hard about what his world would be like and what roles the others fit into, like... would Caboose be Ned? Would Church be Harry Osbourn or. would he be MJ.)

He got his spider powers from picking up a weird sword that imbued him with alien powers and also way too much ego.

writing out the backstory that me and my friend Donut have been working on for the better part of a year, most of it was inspired by the new itsv movie that was released then. and because I don't plan on writing anything huge for this I'd like my brainstorming to have a wider audience.

Tucker is the spiderman in his universe with Church as his "guy in the chair". (Putting it out there that this Church is Alpha, which is significant later on.)

They both share an apartment, I don't think I ever specified why but probably for school reasons. They're both young adults, I want to say around 19-21, similar to their Blood Gulch years.

Tucker loves being spiderman. He loves helping people, being almost an idol for people- a lot of jokes were thrown around about that:

Imagine Tucker after he got his sword. He has a genuine purpose now and he's going to be good at it.

but goddd Tucker is Tucker and is stupid and reckless. being spiderman doesn't make him invincible but he loves to think otherwise. he pushes himself too far too often because he knows if he doesn't he wouldn't be able to sleep at night if someone got hurt when he was taking it "easy". Church knows this but he's still pissed off when Tucker comes back bloodied and bruised from a Villain of the Week that he shouldn't have taken on :/

It's literally just the Spiderman Effect. No one will Ever be able to understand what it's like to be spiderman but other spiders, regardless of how much you tell them or show them, they won't get it. and Church doesn't Get it. He's not stupid, he understands WiTh GrEaT PoWeR y'know but there's a mental toll that can't be communicated in a way that makes sense :/

regardless, Church hates it but he also hates how much he cares about Tucker. Cocreator said that he figured they were both close and willing to become A Thing but the time was never right, and Tucker was scared of liking a dude, etc. Normal stuff between these two. But they're insanely close, I'd like to think even moreso after Tucker's whole spiderman thing and the fact that Church also has to realize that Tucker is not invincible.

Now this is the kicker of why I said to take note of the fact this is Alpha Church specifically.

Now I'm aware of the clowning on the whole "canon event" thing and some people's opinion on it (mostly that it's dumb and cliche), but I find it a very unique and convenient way to give a character a significant plot boost.

That being said, Tucker's "canon event" is Church's death.

I don't ever think I solidified how/why he dies, moreso that it's just a wrong-place wrong-time type of thing. Some brainstorming from Donut about it:

Tucker finds Church similar to how Miles found Peter in the first Spiderverse movie. He doesn't know what to do. He's frantic and scared and horrified that his best friend is coughing up blood with raspy breaths.

Obviously. Obbbviousllyy Tucker is distraught and inconsolable. Something something he has the Worst depression of his life. He doesn't know what to do with himself, the one person who knew about everything is gone, and I'm sorry (not) lol but it's not like in rvb where Church revives 8 times before dying like a normal person.

Church was always there for Tucker and he's at a loss of what to do now because, despite the threat of it, he should've never died. It wasn't even a concern in his head ever because it seemed so unlikely.

Tucker doesn't know what to do with himself, he wouldn't have gotten this far without Church. But really, it was All Tucker. All Church did was give him little tech bits to help him function better but it was All Tucker. But he isn't able to realize that through everything and it ruins him.

made everyone in my high school musical theatre production of les mis read enjolras/grantaire fanfiction (many times, if memory serves)

read that entire fucking destiel vietnam war/HIV au and cried so much i nearly threw up and then sent it to a friend and made him cry and nearly throw up and then for years afterward any time the song 'twist and shout' came on i would start crying and tearing up like as if i personally had lost a lover to HIV

read the all for the game/foxhole court books while in a vulnerable state (just very addicted to drugs) and genuinely thought they were good and recommended them to people and wrote popular fanfiction for them

lied about liking star wars to get online kik he/they pussy from an internet friend who ended up in a real normal offline gay marriage with an internet friend of theirs. i gambled everything and fucking lost

moderated several glee roleplay servers ranging from mid (normal glee roleplay server but i accidentally catfished another member by playing multiple roles, this is one of my greatest shames) to bad (titanic crossover roleplay server. this understandably did not get anywhere but not because the idea wasn't fantastic, just because honestly nobody knew as much about titanic as i did and it pissed me off). i truly have never let any online community dictate my real life emotions as much as the glee tumblr rp fandom did

roleplayed and wrote LOTS of fanfiction for rvb. red versus fucking blue. the HALO show made by roosterteeth. yes i fought in those trenches too (i voluntarily signed up for those trenches). i am writing this post currently wrapped up in a fleece roosterteeth blanket. it is fuck ugly. it cost me ninety canadian dollars. i bought two of them and gave the other one to a straight cis girl that i was madly in love with. we also used to watch red vs blue together. my skin is peeling off

Also: Dr. Grey is Doc Ock and Carolina is Aunt May....though she’s actually Church’s sister in the AU.

I know there’s mostly RvB character despite the AU being focused around Max coming into his role as Spiderman, but maybe near the end he starts hanging out with Neil and Nikki and slowly but surely, the focus shifts to CC characters and less on RvB ones.

ao3 stats

any fellow writers like to check out their ao3 stats sometimes? i like to look at the entire time, of course, but i’m also really interested in the different years and i like to see what i wrote the most of and if i can pinpoint when things started to change for me. for example:

i’ve written a total of 1,286,972 words since i started my account in March of 2011

my yearly breakdown is:

2011: 34,256 words

this was the end of my supernatual phase! i got my AO3 account during a very brief open beta period, if i’m remembering this correctly, and i started posting there instead of ff.net. my biggest stretch was my infamous destiel wedding planner au story, sitting pretty at 21932 words.

2012: 113,826

ah, the year of marvel, it would appear. and the year of tony/bruce. i captained this ship, for a time. i made some lovely friends, and i wrote a lot. however, i spent most of the year not writing anything with a word count higher than about 3500, with a few exceptions. 

2013: 89,579

a bit of a mixed-bag year. most of my work that year was with actual comic books, or some fusions between the MCU and the 616 ‘verse as i discovered bobbi morse and started writing a lot of clint/bobbi fic. i was roleplaying as bobbi on tumblr at the time, which probably accounts for my lack of writing. 

2014: 114,564

the year of red vs blue! i wrote so much RvB fic that year, and i wrote my first multichaptered fic and finished it. it was actually a mass effect fic, because this was also the year of video games. my friend nana talked me into getting a steam account and i splurged and bought bioshock infinite. good choices were made that year. 

2015: 322,526

the year of logolepsy! this was my dragon age year, i wrote so much dragon age fic and i co-wrote the monster of an epistolary story with my good friend @vehlr. that fic is two years old now, i can’t believe it! i really made a hefty deposit into my overall word count that year.

2016: 401,954

a little bit of a mixed year. we started with dragon age, and then zootopia came out and i wrote a lot of zoop fic. i participated in ‘fic a day in may’ which heavily contributed to my overall word count. and then, of course, fantastic beasts came out and i wrote so much fic for that fandom it was buckwild, man. 

current total for 2017: 210,267

this year i started out with fantastic beasts and then hit a bit of a slump. i was really,��really in love with TAZ and i wanted to write fic but i was slightly intimidated? i couldn’t find my starting point, but i finally sorted it out. i also briefly dipped into spiderman homecoming and wrote some hefty pieces for that!

The Ring Of Fire by darthrevaan (Gen, 800 words, Complete) Sarge volunteers to help Wash train the troops on Chorus. Short and sweet and hilarious, and the Sarge characterization hits that perfect sweet spot of absurdity and serious soldiering.

Puppy Eyes by @a-taller-tale​ (Gen, 1k, Complete) “Bullshit, you’re not good with kids,” Tucker said, while Wash did the dishes after Junior was tucked into his Spiderman bedsheets. “You handled Caboose like a pro for years.” The now-they’re-civilians story where Wash awkwardly tries to bond with Junior, and everything is adorable.

Morning Coffee by @wordsysayswords​ (Gen, 1.5k, Complete) Tucker and Grif try to prank Wash, and discover you should never go up against a Freelancer when coffee is on the line. Hysterically funny, and heartwarming around the edges.

burn and bury by stellulam (Yorkalina, 7.7k, Complete) The AU where Carolina finds York before Tex does, and recruits him into her quest instead. You can’t exactly call a story that’s under 10k “slow burn,” but it has kind of that luxurious feel, as the two of them slowly find their way back into a relationship, and Carolina finally gets a chance to decide what she really wants from York. Gorgeous.

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir by @meteoratdusk​ (Gen, 31k, Complete) OH. MY. GOSH. Do you love:

Creepy haunted house stories with gorgeous language and imagery, and a slow, sweet build of horror?

This story is just beginning, but it’s got some fantastic Locus characterization, a surprisingly decent reason for his solo atonement quest, and WEE ORPHANED PICKPOCKETS. Also, it’s another Big Bang, with adorable art by @vlasdygoth.

Yeah, I imagine it's a more remote untouched by war planet but Mask is paranoid of stumbling onto another clone and having the spiderman meme happen or someone who has seen a clone before passing through (thinking making the planet a port stop most come to for repairs and refuel sp iit does get a lot of traffic through it! ). He hated the outfit at first but now its rarely off to point some kids know him by that outfit then what he actually looks like

More thoughts about the RvB Spiderman au

I’m debating between Tucker getting his powers from a regular spider bite and getting his sword from like- one of the freelancers, or him finding this alien sword with a bunch of spider details and carvings on it, and one of the carvings bites him so he’s now bound to the sword and gets spider powers from it

Now that I put it like that I like the alien spider sword idea more-

I finally said fuck it and started working on a Spiderman RvB au

Tucker gets his spider powers the summer before college. Tucker then starts college and meets his roommate Caboose, and their room is next to Tucker’s childhood best friend (although no one believes they’re best friends because they’re always fighting) Church. Church’s dad owns and runs a well known company that does a lot of scientific research where a lot of upperclassmen from their college (the freelancers) tend to intern at. Tucker, Caboose, and Church have a bit of a prank war going with some of their neighbors, Grif, Simmons, Donut, and Doc.

Doc eventually gets the symbiote O’Malley

I think Wash might also be roommates or something with the blues even though he’s an upperclassmen so both teams have 4 people in the dorms. I was considering Tex at first since she joins the team sooner than Wash, but no way would Church’s dad allow that (Church’s dad is the director and I’m thinking he’s like this universe’s Norman Osborn)

I REMEMBER HOW I DECIDED CHURCH SHOULD DIE.

He's into nerd tech shit and was researching the collider when it went off like in the first movie... basically just died because wrong-place wrong-time..

maybe he was part of something that was trying to stop it,

Tucker is major depressed. He isn't really willing or capable of moving past the guilt and anger and denial of the whole thing. "Grief often brings the sense of a loss of control" and Tucker feels like he's lost everything.

Another conversation was about Tucker keeping Church's glasses pristine in the case despite the cracks and dried blood. Maybe having a picture of him as well by his bed that he can never stand to look at but can't stomach moving it either.

Debated about whether Tucker's spidersense would flare up really bad causing him to be anxious and overwhelmed losing sleep all of the time or stop working somewhat and leaving him even more out of control in the world without a 6th sense.

He's like that for like? A month I want to say before he gets roped into spiderverse shenanigans. Y'know the weird portal thing, "where tf am I", the whole deal.

Despite his Church dying, it is called the multiverse for a reason. And Church never really dies.

From Earth E-52, meet Epsilon Church. He sucks and I hate him. (Donut's silly guy!)

Going to say this right now, I literally never fleshed out Epsilon's backstory. I don't even know if we gave him a canon event I asked Donut recently and I got head shakes from the studio. But most likely just Allison dying like in rvb.

(*Despite the whole fucked up weirdness of Church's existence and Allison teeeechnically being Church's wife because he's a copy of the Director. Um. I don't really care and I normally just default to Allison being Church's mom in non-rvb canon-compliant AUs. Makes my life easier. Director and Allison have Church and Carolina, Tex has no connection to any of them.*)

Tucker meets Epsilon and jeeeez. Absolutely the worst thing that could happen to this dude at this point. Losing your best friend and then seeing a carbon copy of him, alive, isn't great for the grieving process.

Epsilon didn't have a Tucker on his Earth, so it's a strange ordeal being practically idealized into this version of yourself you never knew existed.

Epsilon starts working on stuff in the Spider Society and Tucker hangs around just to see him. And of course they have their banter and arguments but then Tucker tries to make an inside joke and Epsilon doesn't get it and it snaps Tucker back to reality that this isn't his Church. Really just a push and pull between them as Epsilon starts to understand Tucker's obsession with him and tries to prevent anything drastic between them.

Donut wrote a fic of that here, which kills me everytime.

Tucker stays there all of the time, I doubt he ever goes back to his Earth, it's not like he has anything else to go back to. Though it would be fun for angst to teleport him back for whatever reason and their room is still a wreak and whatnot. Just thoughts..

Tucker has sneaky ways for Epsilon to be forced to interact with him:

And Epsilon hates it mostly just because he dislikes a lot of things but also, he does start to care a lot about Tucker despite everything. And he can start to tell why Tucker's Church liked him so much. He's quickwitted and genuinely smart when his brain synapses decide to connect, and most of all a worthy spiderman.

And I agree that Tucker is badass but it takes him a bit to get there even in canon. same with this au I think. After a while he's able to move on from Epsilon and grow by himself.

That's really most of the premise I've thought of, most of it revolves around these two..

Other thoughts:

All the rvb cast are spidermen it just differs how and why.

This isn't a role-fill au where each character fits each Spiderverse character perfectly but. Food for thought. The Director as Kingpin is perfect. Both searching for their dead wife in impossibly fucked up scientific experiments??? Yes please. And the counselor as like Tombstone or something.

And honestly. Tex as something Similar as Doc Ock? Super cool. She would be from the Director's universe, but I feel like there's also a good Tex around the SS..

Tex as SpiderVenom would be awesome as well. Perhaps more of a SpiderOmega lolz..

Carolina . jeez i reaaally want her to work with the Spider Society and Epsilon. She's almost like a leader of it like Miguel. Maybe she has a little Epsilon AI thing.. NOT evil like how Alpha was made but like automated responses and whatnot to help her out maybe. Like the s19 Epsilon (I hated him)

Though Carolina would make a great villian if she was based off of how loyal she was in early PFL. Still so much to think about..
