If fablehaven was mermaids this is what I think their mermaid tales would look like: Kendra: Its color changes depending on the temperature of the water, colder is more sapphire blue, lukewarm emerald green, warm gold, and hot is ruby red (I say this because kendra’s favorite colors changes, as we see with the wizenstone, so her tail kinda reflects that). When she becomes fairykind, her scales are laced with some kind of ultraviolet bioluminescent color that only some fish can see Seth: he’d be like a ghost pipefish. They can camouflage very well into their environment and are very hard to spot in the wild. I think he’d blend in with the seagrass very often when he and kendra are playing hide and seek. When he becomes a shadow charmer, he is able to survive in colder water temperatures (ghost pipefish usually live in about 22.1-29 degrees C but don’t quote me on that) Lena: I think she would be a dolphin because they are very playful in nature, and I think that’s what naiads intend to be (though they think drowning people is their idea of fun) plus she goes to the surface a lot as a dolphin Stan: flatfish because he can’t stop making pancakes for breakfast 😭 Ruth: i think she would have a crimson-colored tail, and this is a dumb reason but it’s because I feel like the color red fits her character well. Like it matches her personality (or what I remember of it) Dale: Green like the color of kelp, as he tends to the farm all day Warren: a great white Shark. Probably has some scars because he’s literally a knight of the dawn. Idk what else to say Tanu: some color of koi because they remind me of splashes which reminds me of potions Vanessa: Multicolored betta fish, but her tail color could change depending on who she’s possessing Bracken: Pearlescent, icy blue, or some combination of the two Ronodin: Inky black with flecks of gold and/or maroon Calvin: some species of minnow. I can’t decide what because I don’t get a specific color vibe from him Eve: Midnight blue. She is literally the [Eve]ning Lemme know if I should add any other characters or if you have a different idea for what their mermaid tails would look like!

Fluffy Feburary [2024], Day 2 Prompt- Eavesdrop @fluffyfebruary

It had all started very simply, or well... Ronodin thought it had started very simply, he still wasn't quite sure how it had gotten to this point. With him sat in the Sorenson's living room, a Christmas tree up in the corner with several people glancing cautiously at him- as they should.

He had simply been listening in on Kendra and his cousin, and really, the should know better then to talk where someone could easily eavesdrop. And yet somehow, he was caught! Him! Master of hiding and deception and a million other things. (No, he was not going to give that dragon credit for finding him.)

And so. Here he sat in the Sorenson's living room. Ruth(?) staring at him, no amusement on her face as she held a crossbow- a loaded crossbow!- at his face. A few feet to her left was a rather boring looking man that he couldn't recall that name of (David? Daniel? Whatever.). And a satyr! Now, he didn't really have anything truly against them but... really? A satyr in their house? Did they not care about the furniture?

Nearest to him was his beloved cousin, son of the Fairy Queen, Bracken. And opposite his (annoying) cousin was the Fairy Queen's handmaiden, Kendra. Really, if anything it was their whole fault he was here!

Once he'd been found someone had ushered Seth away, which Ronodin found quite rude. Sure, he might've emotionally manipulated him- but everyone emotionally manipulated someone at one point or another!

...

...three hours had passed. Somewhere after the half hour mark the satyr had left the house, but promising that he'd be back later with another satyr (Nick? Newel?).

Then after the hour the plain man (Dale!) had stood up and said that he needed to get back to his chores, not before leveling a glare at him though. Really! The nerve of these people. Did they not understand how rude they were being to him?

Around two hours later, when the sun was making its descent Ruth had reluctantly stood up and made Kendra and his cousin promise to keep an eye on him before she disappeared.

And so, after the three hour mark Kendra had inquired if he would like something to eat. Now, you must understand- he was not a picky person when it came to food. But he had very much laughed in her face, which quickly made her retract the offer of food.

At the realization that she seriously wasn't going to get him food unless he apologized he pouted. Wasn't she supposed to be a 'good guy'? What kind of good guy didn't feed their guests?

Another half an hour later he finally caved and (politely) asked her to get him something to eat. Since really, he did need to eat something. Before she'd left she had made eye contact with his cousin that seemed to make him promise to keep an eye on Ronodin.

...

...an unknown amount of time later he'd been released from him bondage.

And somehow he was... enjoying spending time with his (moronic) cousin and Kendra. Perhaps it was because he felt some... peace, from being around just the two of them. The light magic that emanated from them felt like a cool balm against his skin. Like a memory of something that had once been familiar to him.

He found himself lowering his guard around the two. The barbs coming from him not feeling as venomous as they should, and the ones coming from his friends enemies didn't feel as venomous as they should either. They felt... like the snark one would expect from people who had known each other their entire lives and were friends. Not two unicorns and a mortal(?) handmaiden to the Fairy Queen who were enemies.

At some point, Ronodin realized that there was a blanket wrapped around the three of them, with another spread across their laps. He was stuck in between them but it didn't feel bad... it felt safe. Even as he felt Kendra's head on his shoulder, soft breathing coming from her as her eyelids fluttered. Or his cousin's soft voice that made him feel like he was a young unicorn again and his older cousin was telling him stories.

It felt like home. That was his only thought as he felt himself rest his head on Kendra's and slowly drift off to sleep.

Rereading Fablehaven so here are some headcanons

The fairies in FH universe are undoubtedly beautiful but also are equipped with sharp fangs that hurt a lot when they bite someone

After Kendra becomes fairykind her ears become slightly pointed and her teeth become sharper but the sharp fangs are only visible to those that have drank the milk

Vanessa has multiple tattoos

Warren has one tattoo which is very small because it hurt so much but he wears it with a badge of honor (he will never admit it was dare or that it’s a butterfly)

Ruth Sorensen has a tattoo which very few people have seen but apparently it’s pretty bad ass

Kendra and Seth took it upon themselves to get Warren up to date on pop culture stuff after he woke up. Seth covered memes and Kendra covered pretty much everything else

Kendra has a rather diverse music taste (much to most people’s surprise) and loves to make playlists for people

Seth will not admit that he listens to the playlists Kendra made him daily

After the death of Kendra’s stingbulb Warren didn’t listen to the playlists Kendra had made him and instead listened to her favorite songs on repeat

Dale grows numerous plants around his home and names them all. He also knows all of the livestock animals by name

Small animals have a habit of imprinting in Dale whether he likes it or not. This extends to magical animals as well

Dale became very fond of Seth. Warren got very attached to Kendra.

Stan Sorensen doesn’t drink often but one time during the holidays when everyone was drinking, Warren attempted to keep up with Stan and ended up very shitfaced

Stan walked away fine

Kendra can and will cuss someone out when needed, especially after Zzyzz. Vanessa and Warren are very proud, everyone else is terrified

Seth snuck fireworks into Fablehaven for the Fourth of July and many of the creatures requested that he do it again

Seth made the mistake of stealing from Kendra’s plate once and she hit him, fangs and all, he never did it again

Warren is the only one that can steal food from Kendra without getting bitten

Seth is not very touchy feely when he’s awake but when he’s asleep he will latch onto the nearest person

Warren is 100% a cuddler, so is Kendra, they can and will struggle snuggle Vanessa

what the fablehaven crew is wearing for halloween :

kendra and warren are doing a matching costume : they’re going as barbie and ken, warren is really invested and he keeps saying every lines ken said in the movie, kendra is laughing the whole night and she’s of course slaying the pink

seth convinced bracken to do a matching costume with him, bracken still doesn’t really understand halloween so he accepted : they’re going as lord of the rings characters and seth is very much hyped. seth will be pippin the hobbit and bracken will go as faramir, he actually watched lord of the rings and loved faramir so he’s very much happy with that costume

vanessa is wearing a bella swann costume because her and kendra recently watched the twilight movies and warren tought it was the funniest costume she could wear, she didn’t haven anything else planned so she went with it

stan and ruth are also wearing a matching costume of dumbledore and professor mcgonagall, they’re very proud of their costumes because they actually made everything themselves this year (it looks very cool)

tanu is going as doctor strange since he’s his favorite avenger and he went all in, he has the cape and everything

mara and trask didn’t really want to dress up so they decided to match together, they’re going as lara croft and indiana jones, so they’re literally wearing clothes they would wear on a mission, but turns out their costumes are amazing regardless

dale is literally just going as stan and everyone couldn’t stop laughing when they figured out his costume

Before Kendra arrives at Fablehaven, we see her internal monologue theorizing that maybe Grandpa Sorenson is secretly divorced and that's why Ruth is never around.

Then Kendra gets to the house and finds out that her grandfather has an unrelated pretty old lady living in the same house as him. I mean, it turned out innocent, but I would have had some *thoughts*

Ghost's Romance May, Day 30 Prompt- Parenting @ghostsfanficevents

When Kendra and Ronodin's future daughter had shown up on the doorstep of Fablehaven, everyone was very confused. Of course, more so because it was a child and they didn't know who her parents were. That was, until she had spotted Kendra and her eyes had lit up before running to her.

Barreling into her, more like. Arms wrapped around Kendra's leg as tears slipped out of her eyes as she desperately cried "Mama! Mama!"

That was when Stan had noticed something that the little girl had been holding. The Chronometer... his eyes darted back to the little girl clinging onto his eighteen year old granddaughter. A little girl who looked maybe six years of age? With Kendra's hair but... he looks at her eyes.

Those aren't Kendra's green eyes, and they certainly aren't Bracken's icy blue eyes, no, they look more like... the realization slowly dawns on him. They look like Ronodin's eyes. And if he forces himself to he can vaguely see the magic presence around her, a mixture of light and dark.

The realization dawns on him, sometimes in the future his granddaughter will have... relations (god he does not want to think about that) with Ronodin. Which will result in the little girl in front of them.

His brow furrows though, the future can only go into the past if the oldest person using the Chronometer already exists... the realization hits him like a truck. What should he say? What can he say? ("Oh, Kendra. Did you have sex with Ronodin?" No! He can't say that it'd be too awkward..)

And while Stan is having his internal crisis the other are looking at the little girl clinging to Kendra's leg and saying that she's her mother. With nervous laughter Kendra leans down to the little girl, "Sweetheart, why do you think I'm your mother?"

Internally though, Kendra is freaking out as her eyes land on the Chronometer and flicks in between it and the little girl.

"Because your my Mama! You look like Mama when she was younger and you have the same magi-magi-kal? magikal! presence as Mama!"

The first thing Kendra says is, "Do you mean magical, sweetie?"

The little girl nods her head, "Mhm! That word!"

Seth who has been alternating between laughing and staring in an odd fascination because what the hell? Finally breaks down and laughs out loud making the little girl look at him.

"Uncy Seth!" she releases Kendra and runs over to wrap her arms around Seth's legs, pure joy in her expression.

As the shock finally wears off Ruth she poses a question, "What's your name?"

The little girl looks up at Ruth, "Vesta! My name is Vesta Sorenson!" the girl's-Vesta's- eyebrows furrow as she looks between Stan and Ruth. Her next question is innocent, "Are you my great-grandparents? You look like you do in the photos!"

The question makes all in the room freeze because of the simple implications of that statement, that Vesta does not know the Sorenson's because of the fact that they are dead. It would make sense after all, the two of them are already quite old.

Kendra breathes in through her nose shakily, "Vesta? Can you come over here?"

The little girl beams as she runs back over to Kendra who shakily lifts her up into her arms. She's chewing on her lip as she looks at her grandfather, both of them know who Vesta looks like. But only one of them is 100% certain, and that person is Kendra who takes the Chronometer as she walks past and into the yard.

She walks as the others stare after her, she walks until she's in the garden. The Fairy Queen's island in the center of the pond as Vesta perks up and points. A happy smile on her face as she says, "Auntie! Auntie!"

The call makes Kendra suck in air through her teeth as she lets out a breath, "Ronodin." her voice is soft when calling out his name. The tone of contempt just an undercurrent.

He appears in a few minutes, a smirk on his face as he looks at her, the one that appears when he's going to tease her before he realizes that there is a child in her arms. "Whose is that?"

She moves closer to him and passes Vesta to him, not allowing him the chance to deny it. "From what I've gathered, she's our child from the future."

The look on Ronodin's face is priceless, as his cheeks begin to glow he glowers at her. Before looking back at the sleeping child in his arms. "What are we supposed to do?"

Kendra rolls her eyes, "Look after her. She's... our daughter after all," Kendra's hands unconsciously trace over her stomach as his eyes widen at the gesture.

He adjusts so that Vesta is being held in one of his arms as he pulls Kendra closer to him, resting his head atop hers. "Well then, I suppose we'll just have to keep her safe till she returns to the future."

Kendra nods, her face flush with embarrassment.
