RUNE ART: THE DRAGON AND THE SPEAR Part II - JOURNEYS IN TEXTURE
Welcome to Part II of "THE DRAGON AND THE SPEAR" rune art project "JOURNEYS IN TEXTURE" that showed further creative travels with the mystical world of the Anglo-Saxon FUTHORC through a visual exploration of these ancient staves using an abstract theme. Part I was of the project was entitled "Journeys of Anglo-Saxon Staves."
The FUTHORC, an extended version of the older Elder Futhark, consisted of 26 to 33 runes used by the Anglo-Saxons and Frisians from the 5th to the 11th centuries CE. Each stave not only served as a letter but also held significant symbolic and magical meanings, often associated with natural elements, deities, and everyday life.
The Dragon and The Spear symbolise power, protection, and the journey of the soul. The dragon, a creature of legend, represents the primal forces of nature and the guardian of treasures. The spear, a weapon of both war and ceremony, signifies strength, direction, and the warrior’s path. Together, they weave a symbolic narrative of courage, wisdom, and the eternal quest for knowledge.
The project was created from a personal collection of images foraged from originals found via Tumblr, Flickr, Facebook, Google, DeviantArt, ArtStation & occasional screenshots. These designs were then modified to idiosyncratic personal preferences with the combined use of:
▪︎ Serif DrawPlus X8
▪︎ Mirror Lab [Ilixa]
▪︎ Chroma Lab [Ilixa]
▪︎ Artificial Intelligence [Copilot]
Through this series of images, you are invited to experience a visual richness of these ancient symbols. Each picture in this collection was designed to evoke textures symbolising the beauty and timeless mystery of the Anglo-Saxon era.
This post showed 33 images created by @gifts-of-heimdall-runes the Anglo-Saxon FUTHORC and an additional ten designs based upon representing the nine realms of ancient norse mythology within Yggdrasil, The World Tree. A tree of life image was found by PINTEREST.
'The Dragon & The Spear: Journeys in Texture' was created Summer 2024 and posted Autumn 2024 on Instagram & Facebook. It was shared to honour Spirit inspiration and for fun.
Part III of "The Dragon and The Spear" entitled "JOURNEYS WITHIN WYRD" will follow in 2025.

Good morning! The rune for this week is Gebo.
Gebo is the rune of partnership, giving, equal exchange, generosity, honor, love, and self-sacrifice. Gebo is a partnership rune, so a partnership may be on the horizon (this could mean romantic relationship, business partnership, or a collaboration of some kind) or there could be shifts in a current partnership. Changes in a contract could reflect a fairer, more equal exchange. Gebo can also indicate a gift in all its forms, including a talent or spiritual gift. Some of you may be giving or receiving a gift in the next seven days. This could include a physical or monetary gift. This could also mean a talent or spiritual gift coming to light.

FUTHARK RING CIRCLES Rune Art 2020 - 2021 Gifts_Of_Heimdall_Runes ● ‘Futhark Ring Circles’ groups a loose collection of the following seven designs. All were a likely byproduct of being unhealthily over-fixated on the futhark rune ring, but discovery of some PNGs with lovely background textures via DeviantArt & Flickr proved rather too compelling. ● 'Futhark Ring Circles’ were broadly created September 2020 to March 2020 but took a while to reach this blog because sharing 'Bifröst Shining - Rune Reflections’ took priority. The images however provided an unexpected but convenient link to a new collection of rune art which follows this section. ● 1. Rune ring - 99$
★Material: High Quality Solid 960 Sterling Silver★ Weight: approx. 17 g (0,59 oz)
The Younger Futhark, also referred to as the "Normal Runes," emerged as a result of a gradual transformation from the Elder Futhark, the earlier version of the Runic alphabet. This evolution took place over an extended period, spanning numerous years. By approximately 800 A.D., which marked the beginning of the Viking Age, the Younger Futhark had achieved a more standardized and recognizable form. It became the predominant script utilized in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark during the Viking Age, reflecting its widespread adoption and cultural significance.
However, as the influence of Christianity spread throughout Scandinavia, the Latin alphabet gained prominence and gradually superseded the use of runes. By around 1200, the Latin script had largely replaced the Younger Futhark, marking a significant transition in written communication in the region. This transition was a consequence of the widespread conversion of the Scandinavian population to Christianity, as the Latin alphabet was closely associated with Christian religious texts and the Church.
The Younger Futhark displayed slight variations across the three main regions where it was used: Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. In Denmark, the Danish runes took shape and were distinct from the Norwegian and Swedish versions. The Norwegian runes developed their own distinct features and were widely used in Norway during the Viking Age. In Sweden, the third row of runes, known as the Swedish runes, were also referred to as Short-twig or Rök Runes, demonstrating a unique regional adaptation of the runic script.
The Elder Futhark, considered the earliest version of the Runic alphabet, is believed to have originated among the Germanic peoples, including those residing in Scandinavia. It likely served as a foundation for the subsequent development of runic scripts. The names of the runic letters are derived from the Common Germanic language, which is the reconstructed ancestral language that forms the basis of the Germanic language family.
In summary, the Younger Futhark evolved from the Elder Futhark, gaining prominence during the Viking Age but eventually giving way to the Latin alphabet due to the widespread adoption of Christianity. The Younger Futhark had distinct variations across Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, while the Elder Futhark represents the earliest known form of the Runic alphabet used by Germanic peoples.

Good morning! This week's rune is Fehu.
Fehu is the rune of luck, mobile assets/material wealth, earned payment, opportunities, new beginnings, and success. While this rune is often associated with material wealth, Fehu is also a productivity rune (abundance, success, and "fertility"). So the next seven days is looking more abundant and fertile in terms of accomplishment. A goal you have been striving toward may finally be in reach. Doors to opportunities and new beginnings will be more plentiful in the next seven days. This week would also be a good time to reflect on wealth and what being wealthy truly means.
