Hi all!! For those of you who don’t know me, My name is Ella Griffin, I’m a 24 year old trans woman based in south florida. For the last four years, I’ve been working on a super special project that I’m beyond thrilled to share with you all: my debut novel, The White Liar. As a big fan of fantasy books, I’ve felt for a long time that there’s a serious lack of authentic trans representation in the genre. For years, I yearned for even just one iconic transfem hero in a high fantasy setting. The White Liar is my attempt to fill that gap in the literary canon.

As a bit of background, I am a massive fan of hard fantasy books with an epic scope and in-depth magic systems; such as Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere books or Ursula Le Guin’s Earthsea series. I’m also a big fan of gothic literature and character-driven classics like Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables and Anna Karenina, all of which have played an influence on this book. The White Liar’s setting is heavily inspired by celtic folklore, mythology and history with a feminist twist.

It’s a world where fae creatures range from tiny glowing insectoids to massive flying mounts and even humanoid beings. Yet, even the tiniest of these has the potential to unlock unfathomable magical potential through the art of Serimancy! Serimancy, the primary magic system of the book, gives users the ability to transmute or ‘spin’ the silk made by fae creatures into supernatural strength, telekinetic threads, and twelve other distinctive powers. Think Rumplestiltskin spinning straw into gold, but more vaporwave.

Without giving too much away, the book features a diverse cast of characters from all different backgrounds, including transfem, transmasc, nonbinary, aspec and disabled characters, although those aspects don’t always define their motives or character arcs. Mainly, The White Liar is a book about the nature of truth and identity; the ways in which our environment affects how we perceive those things, and the friction that creates with our own perception.

I would also characterize the book as a gaslamp fantasy like the Mistborn series or the video game Lies of P, with a baroque/art nouveau-meets-Bridgerton 19th century aesthetic. I’m a 100% independent author with a summary $0 budget publishing through kindle direct, and flat broke, so I would highly appreciate any and all support with this project, be it word of mouth or otherwise. The cover art is a digital painting created entirely by me and is canon to the book!

Thank you so, so much for giving me your time and attention. This book is my love letter to the queer community and I truly hope someone somewhere finds it hopeful or inspiring like I’ve found with the works that inspire me.

I’m surprised that in all the seasons of OUAT, in which they have had so many characters, ranging from Snow White and Cinderella to Bo Peep and Hansel and Gretel to even Frankenstein and Jekyll and Hyde that they never had Dracula!

They had werewolves and witches and Frankenstein’s monster, but not the big bad iconic Vampire man himself, Count Dracula.

This makes me think how they would do it. Rumplestiltskin would obviously be involved somehow, Dracula would probably either be related and/or a love interest to a character at some point.

I also wonder, if they had adapted Dracula into OUAT, what characters would they keep? Would Mina and Jonathan be involved? Would Renfield still be a servant of Dracula, or something else entirely?

So many possibilities, and as a fan of the book, I am both shocked yet somewhat thankful that they didn’t adapt it, especially with how they treated a majority of their characters.

Despite the many errands the Dark One still had to run that very day, he decided to postpone the trips to a more opportune moment, and bask in her misery instead. After all, nothing was more invigorating, more exhilarating than the suffering of his adversaries.

His brows huddled together in an attempt to feign a look of commiseration. How dreadful it must be to have a sister running amok, while your husband had set off without heeding your unspoken advice. How aggravating... And it was entirely her problem.

‘Well, my condolences, dearie,’ he said sardonically, a wry grimace ornamenting his reptilian countenance. ‘Have you tried confining her to a magic urn yet?’ the little imp added mockingly, still standing — not intending to make himself comfortable in a palace that screamed incompetence. ‘It might sound like a drastic measure, leaning to the radical, but at least then, you’re guaranteed she’ll stay indoors and not venture out into the land, instigating another blizzard in the middle of summer.’

‘Hello, dearie, did you miss me?’ — From your old pal, Rumple Bumple.

“Oh you’ve got to be kidding me.” Anna said with a load groan as she turned to face him. Then she raised a hand, signaling him to be quiet. “I have got like…a thousand things on my plate right now…” Well, maybe this was the time to vent before he decides to ruin things further. “Elsa, naturally, had another freak out. Yes, I love her so much. But I also like it to be warm in June. Like any other reasonable person. So you might be saying ‘oh Anna, you’ve dealt with that before, this should be easy by now’—well it’s not.” The princess stated firmly in her rant, gesturing to a chair for him to sit down in because it was definitely going to be awhile. “And Kristoff, who I also love very much, decided he is gonna deal with Elsa. Which I would have said ‘Kristoff I don’t think you understand how that works’ but guess what—I could not tell him that because I was told of Kristoff’s departure—this morning, when he had already left in the middle of the night. So now I can’t leave Arendelle to get my sister, because the last time I did something like that, a coup almost happened.” The princess said with a big huff before gesturing her hands in the air, mimicking how his looked whenever he used his magic. “So go ahead! Please! Add something to my long list of things I have to fix.”

Rum Tum Tugger (Cats) / i only made two fancams this year and one of them was for him.

Sebastian Smythe (Glee) / i can't believe i'm on like my third gleewatch and i'm only just now becoming insane about Sebastian. bought a warblers jacket over this man.

Rumplestiltskin (OUAT) / it's tough because i never finished OUAT and every time i dip back in it is a struggle but if i was ever going to power through it would be for him.

Chad Charming (Descendants) / i wrote descendants fanfic again this year. because of him.

Monoma Neito (BNHA) / i rewatched and caught up on this show finally and he's still the best character, not even close, i own so much Monoma merch

Miguel Prado (Dexter) / firstly season 3 of Dexter is the most insane i have ever felt watching television. unbelievable high of 2023. secondly Miguel is a crazy person and it makes me feel FUCKED UP that nobody is posting about him. strongly considered writing Dexter fic about him.

Patrick Bateman (AP) / my second fancam of the year was for him. and i changed my icon for the first time in like 4 years for him. also everything else i said about him. hiiii. hai. haiiiii.

Asher Millstone (HTGAWM) / to be quite honest i like just about every character in this show (as of finishing season 2) but he's very much The Type of Character I Love

iI feel like we're in the midst of the creation of an urban-folkloric mascot for Halloween known as Jack.

And like, I'm not talking about Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas, nor am I talking about the folklore character Jack of the Lantern, nor am I talking about the Jack Skellington's direct inspiration Jack Pumpkinhead from the Oz books. Though I'm also not not talking about these characters.

For the record, I'm also not really talking about Jack from the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (pictured above), though I do think he's kinda emblematic of who this character is.

Some traits that seem to pop up surrounding this character in his various incarnations

He's a trickster Spirit in the vein of Brer Rabbit, Rumplestiltskin, or the Pied Piper.

Sometimes he's a scarecrow, with hay sticking out of clothes, but that's not a constant.

Might actually be headless, ala The Headless Horseman

Sometimes has a backstory referencing the original Jack of the Lantern legend (as is the case with the Billy and Mandy character). Other times he seems to adapt elements of Faust or even that old fable about a man hides from Death in a Tree.

Probably hangs out with other holiday icons likes Santa Claus and Cupid (and also the not at all holiday related Tooth Fairy)

I think the weird thing about this character is that we don't really have a definative version the same way we have a definative Santa Claus or a Definative Cupid. Instead, we kinda sorta have a loose assortment of OC's sometimes named Jack that are largely considered separate characters.

Corrina Mills | Persephone in Rite Of Spring: Regina & Zelena's younger half sister, named after her mother Cora. She is Persephone in the Enchanted Forest and in Storybrooke she's Corrina Mills, Regina's younger sister and the only person who can leave Storybrooke without any issue but she either always finds herself returning without meaning to or she forgets about Storybrooke when she's out of the bubble and forgets about the "real world" when she's in Storybrooke. Her father is Rumplestiltskin, and she is most likely going to be shipped with Graham

Named Corrina both for her mother, Cora, and because it's a variation of Kore, which is another name for Persephone

Dove Thorn | Robin Page in Dear Reader: The youngest of the Page/Thorn sisters. In the Enchanted Forest she is Robin Page (from the Fables comics), and in Storybrooke she is Dove Thorn, Alissa & Evelyn's younger sister who works somewhere in the Sheriff's Department.

Named Dove as it is a type of bird, like Robin

Eilwony in Rabbit Heart: Eilwony from the Black Cauldron. She was a captive to Regina in the Enchanted Forest and is still captive through the curse. Because of being in Regina's castle, she was not affected by the curse and has kept all of her memories, but she can't escape or do anything with that knowledge until Henry Mills finds her and helps to rescue her. Daughter of a magic user, but I haven't decided which one yet.

(name does not change as she does not have a Storybrooke version of herself)

Evelyn Thorn | Hillary Page in Dear Reader: The oldest Thorn sister, she's Hillary Page (from the Fables comics) in the Enchanted Forest. In Storybrooke she's Evelyn Thorn, who "recently" took over her mother's job as the elementary school librarian.

Named Evelyn after the most iconic librarian around, Evelyn O'Connell from The Mummy

Mirella Gold | Christine Daae in Once Upon A Song: Christine Daae (Phantom Of The Opera) in the Enchanted Forest, Rumplestiltskin takes on the role of her phantom in many ways. In Storybrooke she is Mirella Gold, who works as a personal assistant (tbd to who) but dreams of becoming a songwriter. She is raised by Mr Gold, but I haven't decided yet if she knows that she's adopted or believes that he's her father. Might be shipped with Graham.

Named Mirella after Mirella Freni, considered one of the best opera singers of all time

Named Paige as a pun on Prose Page's last name

Sadie “Sugar” Monroe | Charlotte LaBouff in Sweet Nothing: Charlotte LaBouff in the Enchanted Forest. In Storybrooke she is Sadie Monroe (but everyone calls her Sugar), a pageant princess rich girl with a heart of gold. She is an event planner and organizes plenty of town events and fundraisers, and will be shipped with either Graham or David.

Named Sadie as it is a common Southern girl name and nicknamed Sugar because it is a common nickname in the South (both chosen as a nod to Charlotte LaBouff being a Southern Belle), last name Monroe as Lottie's design was inspired by Marilyn Monroe

Once Upon a Time Season 1 thoughts

I’m rewatching OUAT and I wanted to share some of my opinions on each season!

Background: I first watched the show in middle school and I have only rewatched season 5b (for the Greg Germann content). I LOVE OUAT. It was my favourite show for a long time, I had merch and everything. It will always have a special place in my heart. Anyways, here are my thoughts;

- I like Snow but I can’t stand Mary Margret

- She is so annoying

- Regina has the best quips

- Again, I like Charming but David is annoying

- I forgot about the ENTIRE murder plot in season 1

- Literally WTF was that

- No wonder the show is tagged ‘soap opera/melodrama’ on Disney+

- Katherine deserved better

- Rip Graham, I could care less about you

- I kinda love August ngl

- Jefferson: kinda annoying, kinda slay

- I forgot how bad the cgi is at times

- Wonderland looked HORRIBLE

- So gummy and bad, like the cgi budget was 10 cents

- Regina walking in episode 1 lol

- Love Rumple, he is one of my all time faves

- He is literally so iconic and funny both as Rumplestiltskin and Mr Gold

WHEN BBC MERLIN FANS. actually i could finish this answer right there couldn’t i… no i’ll finish for real. when bbc merlin fans are like ohhhh why did the show do (insert widely known story beat from centuries of legends) like girl it was ALWAYS going to happen that way that’s the point….. mordred was always going to turn on arthur, morgana was always going to become evil, etc. yes there are issues with HOW the show did that stuff (meaning they did it in such stupid ways it’s laughable) but that’s the story… it’s BEEN set come on…

18) it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on...

can i say that i think all fandoms (on tumblr) really sleep on straight ships or is that an insane thing to say. like sometimes i don’t care if that man was homoerotic with his pal and it’s insane that you care more about that than his awesomely written relationship with his girlfriend/ex fiancée/some kind of love interest. ok this is about izombie this is about liv and major. i don’t care about major and ravi!!!!!!! major and liv are literally endgame grow up!!!! but no this is also true for every fandom ever. the way people ignore a man’s canonical female love interest if he has even one ounce of gay tension with some other dude in the show is ridiculous idk

i guess i’m supposed to say ben barnes shadow and bone here or whatever. but i’m not actually mad about it because i’m a born apologist and knew this would happen. but i feel like i’m supposed to not like him. or i’m supposed to like him but righteous fandom people think it’s activism to not like him and therefore they would hate me sooo much because i formulate my own opinions with nuance and depth or whatever. also rumplestiltskin once upon a time. robert carlyle you got to me man… i could write essay length posts about that character actually don’t get me started. also i finished this question, saved the draft, and then another ask reminded me of the wilds, so i should also add that in hindsight i’m very embarrassed about the way i acted about the wilds season 2…. like i can’t believe you all let me act like that about men. in the feminist lord of the flies show…. why was i allowed to do that seriously that was sick….
