The following was inspired by @bluegiragi hybrid AU, and includes the reader character Hunter, from @diejager

No this wasn’t right, this wasn’t fair, they were supposed to be gone, locked up, put away, gone for good.

Yet there they had been, working with him. Graves was no saint but working with them of all fucking people?!? You felt your stomach twist and churn and you froze in your form as the others tore through the thralls. It wasn’t until one had been brave enough to jump on to your large form that you regain your focus.

Fight. Focus on the fight. Deal with them later. You reach up and behind you and grab the jumper, before over head slamming him into the floor, making him almost splat. You look around, trying to ignore them, and find where you can assist. König was having little issue, Horangi and Alejandro were proving to be an effective pair, with Rudolfo taking shots beside them, Price was making his fire spread everywhere he could while Gaz dive bombed any the Captain might have missed. Ghost was of course sticking to the shadows and intercepting the thralls on their way to provide back up. Soap… no…

They were moving towards Johnny and you panicked. Johnny was tearing through the shadows like he often does but they had caught sight of him. They were going for the closest target. Johnny hadn’t spotted them yet.

Not again, not again, no!

You hear yelling but it’s muffled by your ears ringing as they make their way towards Soap who finally takes notice of them. You’re in the basement for a moment, and there’s two smiles before you. One kind and the other… it has no right to be a smile. Darkness closes in, you have to stop it this time.

No, leave him alone!

Soap faces them, ready for whatever hybrid they might be. He doesn’t get the chance to pounce because you’re there instead, screeching in their face, and forcing them back before they can react. You whack them away with your wooden forearm and shriek at them again in warning. Soap steps back a little, shocked to see you react and in front of him.

“Fuck! Rudy!” Alejandro yells, as he tears thralls off of his partner and your attention from the humanoid monster before you. Thankfully Rudolfo’s cadejos are there to protect him, the dark one ripping through them quickly with Alejandro slicing them to ribbons. Rudolfo was already spent and passed out. Alejandro was standing over him protectively, and hissing and swiping at whatever thralls were nearby. Price growls angrily, and orders you all to fall back.

Soap clamps his jaws on to your arm and tugs, bringing you back to reality again. He’s repeating the orders Price had given. You flee before they can try anything, or take advantage of the chaos. The thralls chase after you, and Alejandro carries Rudy back with Horangi providing cover from behind. Gaz is able to get control of König well enough to steer his Percht form in the right direction.

They wouldn’t hurt your friends. Not again. You wouldn’t let them. No one would hurt your friends again. You wouldn’t let anyone go into the dark again…

Never again…

Fortunate doesn’t begin to describe the luck you had making it back to base. Price is pissed off, Rudolfo is unconscious, the whole team is exhausted or wounded. They nearly had Graves, once he was dead the thralls would have been easy.

On the ride back you keep your head down, no one talking to you. It was your fault. You heard the orders from Price to assist Rudolfo, but you not only ignored them you went against them, to protect Soap who didn’t need to be protection. When you return to base, Rudolfo is taken by Hunter to rest while Price reprimands you in front of everyone. You don’t blame him.

“Care to explain corporal?” He asks, arms folded, smoking drifting out of his mouth as he spoke. You keep your head down, and your arms at your sides. Facing a superior officer is one thing. Facing your captain who put so much faith and trust in you, and endless hours into your training…you can’t.

“You are damn fucking lucky you understand me? Sergeant Parra nearly got killed, and could have been if we hadn’t gotten out of there. When I give you orders you follow them, understood?”

“Yes sir-“

“Then why the fuck was this any different?!”

You still don’t look up, and clench your fists tighter to keep yourself from flinching. You smell the smoke, you hear him talking, but you can’t face him. Price is standing over you now, and you can feel the heat from his smoke just above you. Hell he has half a mind to send you back, and you’re just praying he won’t.

“What do you have to say for yourself corporal?” He asks, arms crossed. You don’t answer. ‘Sorry’ would cut it. There was no excuse. You messed up. Nearly cost a life. Nearly cost your family.

“Nothing sir.” You mutter, and swallow under your breath.

“Speak up!” He yells, making you flinch.

“Nothing Captain.” You say. He’s stunned and disappointed. You won’t even look him in the eye when you say it. He has half a mind to send you back to the program. This time you nearly cost them a life to Graves. The rest of the team is either standing there watching everything play out or has since left to tend to their own injuries.

“Dismissed corporal, return to your quarters. Punishment will be dealt later.” He orders. You don’t look at anyone as you go to your room. It’s a rather brutal sight seeing Captain Price discipline you. Soap and König are uneasy about your behaviour though and share a brief look on their way to see Hunter for debrief and assessment.

You shut the door to your room and sit on the bed, removing the tactical vest, along with the rest of your gear. There’s a growing lump in your throat. Your heart is still pumping, and you claw at the bed sheets, trying not to cry.

They were supposed to be gone and locked up, never able to hurt you again. What if Price sent you back? Could they find you?Did they even recognize you during the fight? You hadn’t felt like this since you lost control. Scared. Scared you would lose your team. Scared they would get you back. Scared your team might be all that was waiting in the basement.

No please…please you just wanted friends…

“Oy! Spirit open up.” There’s a knock at your door and you jump. It’s Johnny, checking up on you. You’ve heard that tone before.

“C’mon, open the door I’m not playin.”

You get up and crack open the door to see Johnny standing there, his own tactical gear off and wearing cargo pants and a tshirt. He looks disappointed with you just as much as Price probably was. When Soap looks at you it stings more.

“May I come in?” He asks with mild sarcasm. You nod and quickly open the door. He walks in, and stands in front of the bed while you stand by the door, as if it were a room inspection. “Close the door, sit down.”

You do as he says. You sit in silence for a moment. Soap looks down at you with his arms folded. “What the hell was that?”

You’re quiet again and he sighs in frustration. The question nearly breaks you. Staying silent keeps you from crying.

“Pup you better start talkin, or this won’t be pretty.” He warns. Your silence remains, but he starts noticing something is more wrong. Your body is locked up and tense, you keep clenching and unclenching your fists and you keep biting your lips. There’s no eye contact from you either.

“Tell me. Now.” He says, firmly but calmly.

“I saw…I saw my mom.” You say. Johnny stares at you for a moment. You’ve told him about your family, and the shitty ways you were treated. The program had put her in jail and protected you. Her getting out meant a lot of different things and raised so many questions. He realizes the woman who had been trying to flee was your mother. The one that was ready to fight him.

“Why did you disobey orders?” He asks.

“I… I wanted to protect you.” You tell him.

“Spirit I was fine. I canna andle myself. You shoulda ave said somethin.” There’s frustration in his voice as he shakes his head.

“I couldn’t…” you say softly, trying to keep the lump in your throat down.

“Why?” He presses.

“I…I…”

“Why didn ya say somethin Spirit? Why didn ya follow orders?” He asks leaning in closer.

“I was scared!” You shout before the tears run down your cheeks. Johnny stands there seeing you cry, and it hurts for him too. He hates seeing you like this. But it’s necessary.

“Why…?” He asks again.

“I thought she would hurt you…she would kill you…” you whimper. “I don’t…I don’t wanna…”

“Don what? What don ya want?” He asks.

“……eat you.” You say just audible enough for him to hear and things start making sense. He doesn’t know what to say to that. Two and two were put together recalling the night you told him about being locked in the basement and given raw food. Johnny knew about your life…but not this.

“Corporal.” He says finally. “You canna disobey orders ya got that. You obey those orders, unless told different ya understand?”

“Yes sir.” You say, nodding.

“Look at me when you’re talking.” Johnny says. You look up at him and see the same face that checked on you during the holidays. You sniff and wipe your tears taking a breath.

“Yes sir.” You repeat, a little louder, and swallowing back the lump in your throat.

“You’re still gonna ave a punishment, but das for the cap’n.” He tells you. You nod.

The sergeant role drops as he takes a breath.

“You need a hug…” he asks.

“Yes sir.” You say.

He sits down next to you and holds you close. You hold on to him, as if he’s about to be pulled away from you.

“That witch is gonna ave to try pretty fuckin hard to get through me…ya know that.” He says letting you cry into him. He squeezes you tighter, asserting his possessive nature over those he considers his pack. “She ain’t fuckin touching you.”

You pull away after sobbing for a bit, tears still on your face.

“I…you said you wouldn’t go into the dark…”

“I won’t… not unless I know you’re in there, and you canno get out… promise.” He says wiping a tear from your cheek. He presses his forehead to yours, and you’re trying to stop crying.

“No one ‘ere is goin in the dark… never… if one of us goes we’ll pull em out… got that?” He says looking into your eyes.

“Got it…” you say. “Do I have to tell Price…?”

“Yeah…you need to… Laswell needs to get that program checked out. I’ll go with you…take a breather and drink some water first.”

You get your water flask and chug a bit, taking deep breaths.

“Ay. Canna tell you somethin?” He asks. You nod. “You took Price like a pro. Seen plenny of other soldiers crumple in fron of him… you didn cry and whine. Das not a bad thing.”

He takes you to see Price, and you explain everything, apologizing for your actions as well. Price has a grim look on his face, and dismisses you and Johnny. He has to do some digging but for now everyone needed rest, especially Sergeant Parra. You go check on him before heading to bed and Hunter tells you he’ll be okay.

Price was right though. You let your emotions and fears control you, take over. If it had happened again, you could have gotten Rudolfo killed. What if Hunter had been there instead? They don’t have any hybrid abilities to protect them. What if it had been someone else? You’r frustrated with yourself despite Johnny reminding you that mistakes have costs, and it’s part of the job.

When he wakes up you apologize profusely. He admits he was worried about you when you didn’t follow orders. You assure him you’re better now. You tell him what exactly happened, and he listens to you, staying quiet.

“No one can blame you for getting distracted Mija. You were protecting your hermano de armas.”

“I should’ve been protecting you.” You say.

“I know. But instincts can take over. Alejandro is the same way.” Rudolfo assures you. You nod and he ruffles your hair.

“Hey it took forever to get it in a ponytail!” You whine swatting at his hands.

“Your hair is already a mess. You need a cut anyways.” Rudolfo points out.

“Yes sir.” You nod.

As a sort of personal punishment, you offer any help you can to Rudolfo during his recovery. Honestly it’s the least you can do. Price’s punishment is mainly getting you to stay up late and clean anything that needs it for the next month or so. A couple times he’s lenient, offering to let you go to bed, or move on to your next chore with only a couple small tasks left. You refuse each time, taking your punishment seriously.

At the end of each day, you go to bed with sore arms, fingers and sometimes your back. You know it’s for the best in the end. You’re supporting your team. You’re keeping them safe, and becoming stronger. You’re becoming a soldier.

'Vaccine fatigue' blamed as roughly half of people in US will skip COVID and flu shots this year - Published Sept 16, 2024

A growing number of U.S. adults are hesitant to get recommended vaccines this fall, a new survey found.

The poll, which included 1,006 people, found that only 43% of respondents have gotten or plan to get the COVID vaccine.

Only a slight majority (56%) of adults said they have gotten or plan to get the flu shot this fall.

The poll also found that 37% of those who have gotten vaccines in past years plan to skip the shots this season.

Around one-third of respondents also said they don’t believe they need the vaccines mentioned in the survey — flu, COVID, RSV or pneumococcal pneumonia.

Vaccine hesitancy tends to skew younger, as adults aged 65 and older are the most likely to get the recommended immunizations.

The nationwide survey was conducted by The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in mid-August 2024.

These findings come just weeks after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved updated COVID-19 vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer for the 2024-2025 season.

"We’re at the start of respiratory virus season, when you have the triple threat of flu, COVID-19 and RSV," said Nora Colburn, MD, medical director of clinical epidemiology at Ohio State’s Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital, in a press release.

"Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation about vaccinations, but the reality is that they are safe and highly effective in preventing serious illness and death," she went on.

"Older adults, people with certain chronic medical conditions, and those who are pregnant are especially at risk during respiratory virus season." Dr. Jacob Glanville, CEO of Centivax, a San Francisco biotechnology company, reacted to the poll’s findings.

"It’s obviously not surprising that 37% of people said they had been vaccinated in the past but weren’t planning to this year," he told Fox News Digital.

"We just had a vaccine mandate a couple of years ago, and furthermore, childhood vaccines are very broadly administered, so those 37% are people who wouldn’t be getting a vaccine normally anyway."

The reported rate of 56% for the flu shot is a little above average, Glanville said, as it tends to hover at around 50%.

"Coronavirus vaccination rates are a little lower than for the flu," he noted.

This could be due to lack of clarity with the public over how COVID should be treated post-pandemic, according to Glanville.

"It’s also fatigue due to the COVID vaccines not being particularly effective at preventing symptoms, which causes people to believe that they are not effective (although they do protect against severe illness)," he added.

Dr. Marc Siegel, senior medical analyst for Fox News and clinical professor of medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center, said he finds the poll’s findings concerning.

"Both vaccines wane over six months, so a yearly booster makes sense for high-risk groups," he told Fox News Digital.

Siegel estimates that this year’s flu season will be similar to last year’s, which was "moderate," with 25,000 deaths and 400,000 hospitalizations.

"The flu shot decreases severity and number of hospitalizations by about a quarter, and helps to provide community immunity," he added.

For COVID, Siegel warned that the virus’ activity is still fairly high — "especially in the western U.S."

The doctor also warned of a new variant circulating in Europe, which he expects will soon be in the U.S., known as the XEC subvariant.

"It seems to be more contagious — it causes congestion, cough, loss of smell and appetite, sore throat and body aches," he told Fox News Digital.

"The new vaccine should provide at least some coverage."

Dr. Paul Offit, director of the Vaccine Education Center and an attending physician in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, told Siegel that very young children are being hospitalized at a greater rate — "likely because they haven't been vaccinated with the primary series."

"I recommend a yearly booster for the elderly, immunocompromised and those with chronic illness, along with anyone who is at risk for long COVID or has had it previously," Siegel said.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued the following vaccine recommendations

Flu: Everyone 6 months and older is advised to get vaccinated against influenza.

COVID-19: The latest version of the COVID vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months and older.

RSV: The respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine is recommended for everyone aged 75 and older, as well as those aged 60 to 74 who have certain chronic medical conditions, such as lung or heart disease, or who live in nursing homes, as they are at a higher risk of severe disease. Pregnant women are also advised to get the vaccine during weeks 32 through 36 of pregnancy.

Pneumococcal: Everyone younger than 5 years and age 65 and older is advised to get the pneumococcal vaccine, along with those who are at increased risk of severe disease.

First—this isn’t directed at anyone on here at all.

So I’ve been thinking and reflecting the past couple of days about everything and how much the silence and associations (which in my opinion, aren’t genuine, just cordial) suck. I’m not a fan of either, especially when ALL of our rights are on the line.

Especially when there’s people who have spent the last few days making it clear (in a mocking way) that they think their rights are different than others’ because of their husband’s status and wealth then playing the “be kind” victim card when they know what the person they support is about.

…BUT ANYWAYS lol…

I remember how Taylor very recently said to let her be clear that she would not speak publicly on something if she thought doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who would come to her shows.

Which kind of tracks with how back during the primaries, she reminded people to vote those who most represent THEM into power. While lots of people were disappointed and upset, she’d echoed that same sentiment in (I think) 2018. It was a very safe, generalized message for people to vote. While voting is important, you don’t *have* to vote along with your family, friends, or “friends” as we saw in the argument between Taylor and her father in Miss Americana.

Again. I’m not a fan of the silence or associations, as they can often lead to wrongful assumptions and insinuate the opposite of you or what/how things really are for you specifically; but I think we have all seen how *some* people have been acting towards others in the fandom and in general who have called out the seemingly obvious over the past year….and that’s just on social media.

Also, I will add this to the walls in the halls of my house in the Folklorian Hills—in my opinion, she endorsed Kamala Harris on her IG post about the European shows.

The Hollywood Reporter tweeted that they’d gotten word from a source close to Taylor that it was a backup singer in that photo, but they also deleted the tweet, which was suspicious; because if it’s a denial and you’re a legit publication, there should’ve been a retraction/correction, not an outright deletion. However, I think if you compare that photo to one of Kamala Harris waving as she walks onto a stage, the similarities are there.

While we can’t ignore or deny that she spoke publicly regarding her endorsement of President Joe Biden in 2020, with all honesty and respect, he is a white male. Kamala Harris is not. The level of backlash would be astronomically higher based off of that alone.

Now, I understand some people may think that’s being dramatic, but I think about the elderly woman and her daughter who were poll workers in Georgia and how they were harassed and treated because of Rudy Giuliani’s lies. How some people said they believed “Betty” was about two girls and were doxxed.

I’m not encouraging anyone to change their views on the situation or dismissing their feelings about it. I’m just simply saying that I looked at the other side of it on my own doing to try and get some understanding of my own and wanted to share my thoughts even though I’m still disappointed.

As I stated earlier, I’m not a fan of the silence or the associations knowing what’s at stake. Though I may not like it and think she could still do the brave thing and (to quote Michelle Obama)—do something, I get it somewhat.

Election workers are being forced to go through security training and learn new safety protocols because of threats from Donald Trump’s supporters and election lies promoted by Republicans.

Deidre Holden, an elections and voter registration supervisor in Spaulding County, Georgia, discussed the issue in an interview with ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday. “The most important thing is to get those voters out and get them to safety, and fight for your life if you have to,” Holden told ABC as she tried to hold back tears. The district where Holden works has historically supported Republicans, but she said that her office received threats from Trump supporters after President Joe Biden won Georgia in the 2020 election. Holden took note of one email to her staff that said, “We’ll make the Boston Bombings look like child’s play at the poll sites in this county.” Holden’s office has installed new security cameras and has purchased supplies of the overdose medication Narcan in case a chemical agent is sent in with absentee ballots. The office also has a panic button to call emergency services, which other Georgia officials have also said they will install ahead of the election. A recent poll from the Brennan Center for Justice found that 92% of 928 election officials surveyed nationwide have taken steps to increase security after the last election.

Following the 2020 election, a pair of Georgia election workers, Wandrea "Shaye" Moss and her mother, Ruby Freeman, were the subject of harassment and threats after Donald Trump and his lawyer Rudy Giuliani spread election-related lies about them. Giuliani falsely accused the pair of manipulating absentee ballots in favor of Biden while working as poll workers.

Thanks to the rampant election denialism spread by Donald Trump and his allies in recent years that have threatened election workers, election workers are being forced to go through security training and learn new safety protocols.

Okay, so I made a poll on whether Aiden Acharya was a book bf and this is because see him getting a lot of hate. And I have no idea why????? There's even a video (albeit a small mention) calling him annoying???? Also I see him tend to get antagonized in a bunch of fics.

There are only a few reasons I could think of as to why and those do not really make sense in my opinion:

He was distant with Aru of CoG - okay but dude literally has so much trauma when it comes to love. His parents got divorced because of it and his father hurt his mother sm because of it. Now obviously when he used the key in ToW he realised he was in love with her. And no duh he'd want to put some distance between them so that she wouldn't hurt him because of it AND HE WOULDN'T HURT HER

The Kara shenanigans - please Aiden was being polite he literally acted the same as with Mini and Brynne, like Kara was feeling left out, that much was obvious, so Wifey was the better man and helped her feel included. BECAUSE HE IS NICE. The "romance" between them was all Kara's delusions and Aru's unreliable narrating for fucks sake she once thought Brynne and Aiden once had feelings for each other because she always thinks lowly of her.

The time skip - HE WAS JUST TOLD HE WAS GOING TO DIE BECAUSE OF ARU HE IS LITERALLY ONLY 15/16 A MERE FUCKING CHILD YOU THINK HE'S JUST GONNA LA DEE DA HIS WAY THROUGH LIFE AND PRETEND NOTHING IS WRONG????? THAT IS SO FUCKED UP FOR HIS MENTALITY OF COURSE HE WOULD TRY TO AVOID HIS FATE ISTFG-

The rejection at the start of NoI - honestly pretty sure he just word-vomited like Aru in EoT he didn't get to complete what he was saying so he couldn't explain himself properly and after he kissed Aru, he probably realized his fate was sealed and he was on the verge of dying, yes he'd do everything he could to avoid it even if it means lying and taking back everything because he does not want to die has anyone realized how scary dying is??? Like he's probably terrified because god fucking dammit he's gonna die he does not want his life to end he doesn't want to leave his friends or family. It's a kids book so it's not really shown properly how awful and miserable and so fucking scary it is to be told: "you're gonna die."

The rest of NoI - literally the exact same reasoning any moment in this quest he will stop breathing and no one knows Aiden's POV, so he was probably having so many panic attacks and crying and screaming himself hoarse because he really, really doesn't want to die he doesn't want to abandon his mom, being the person Malini found worth living for. He didn't want to leave Rudy, his blood family that didn't abandon him. He didn't want to say good bye to Brynne, his best friend, nor to the other Potatoes. He didn't want to spend less than 9 days with Aru before seeing her for the last time.

I'm probably gonna get so much hate for this but I'm tired of seeing how badly Aiden is treated and I adore him and honestly he was absolutely in the right to cut off Aru, though I'm not saying it was the right thing to do, but he was allowed to do it.

Draw your swords

(König x reader. F2L with mutual pining. Oneshot.)

On his work König has been shot, beaten, strangled, cut, smothered, burnt and drowned. But it was nothing compared to what your eyes did to him when you opened your door. The impact of your tired, disappointed stare is so drastic, it feels as if all the air swiftly left his lungs. König is ready for whatever you have to throw at him: it may hurt, may crush him for good, but he needs it - needs to hear your voice, even if you just send him off back home and ask to never contact you again.

Despite his fears, you don't break down, or yell at him, or slam the door in his face - you turn around and slowly make your way to the kitchen, knowing that he will follow you. You turn on the electric kettle and freeze over the countertop without saying a single word.

König tries to calm down his trembling hands, but it only gets worse every next minute, so he surrenders, gets up, comes closer and touches your shoulder in a silent plea to react to him anyhow.

Outsider

You roll a bottle of beer between your hands, observing the liquid slowly swirling inside. Of course, you should be celebrating with others, but you swear, if you happen to hear the sudden loud exclamation of Colonel Vargas one more time, this bottle will slip out of your hands. And you had enough embarrassment for one evening already.

You hear a short tactful cough, meant to indicate that you are not alone on the veranda, and turn around. Of all people out there, it must be Sergeant Major Parra, who was for sure sent to bring you back. As if they all knew, you can't deny this man anything, when he asks so nicely.

"I know, I'm sorry, coming back already, promise." You turn back and stop in your tracks in surprise, seeing him handing you a blanket over.

"It's ok, if you want to stay here, I just wanted to make sure, you don't catch cold." His voice is much quieter and more peaceful than Colonels.

A voice to drive away anxieties, to tell long stories on a hot afternoon, to soothe and lull. Actually, the only voice here, that doesn't make you jump. The voice you grow so accustomed to. And this is why it was a good thing, you were soon to leave these guys.

No Sky lands

(Nikolai x my OC. This happens after 'A heart full of pity')

"Five murder charges, a treason, ban on visiting not one, not even four, but six countries... Is it a CV or a hire-a-crazy-boy-to-ruin-your-company bingo?" Nikolai chuckles, but it is obvious that he is not happy with her choice.

"You gave me the green light on whoever I want to hire..." As Nik waves potential recruits papers, pointing at the guy down in the hall, she catches the papers and pulls them out of his hand.

"I can work with that." She rises from the table and heads for the exit of their private room when Nikolai catches her arm and pulls her closer.

"I know. And that is yet another reason, I'm so in love."

Perfect, he just couldn't wait to ruin her cold working demeanor, could he? How is she supposed to interview the man now, when her face is red?

To her relief, their applicant was too engrossed in studying the menu to notice her from afar.

"Herr Krueger, schön, Sie kennenzulernen!" The man rose his gaze on her and squinted displeasedly.

"Eigentlich meine Name ist Doss..."

"Eigentlich deine Name ist Krueger. Jetzt hör auf mit dem Unsinn und lass uns zur Sache kommen."*

It's always the rowdy ones

Out of the corner of your eye, you watch the glass dance in his hands. This man does not even think of emptying it - he only pretends to drink on a par with the rest.

At their table, he is the noisiest. Sprinkles others stories with jokes, says toasts, fools around.

But you notice something in his eyes. Some might call it just a sadness, longing. But in your head pops up another word: emptiness. Cold sticky emptiness, absorbing a person from the inside - you have already seen something like this and it did not end well.

For a while you get distracted and lose sight of him. But when the pub-goers start chanting the New Year's countdown loudly, you look for his eyes again... and you don't find them.

Nine! You start worrying. It's ridiculous, you don't even know this guy. Seven! You search and search and search - nothing. Five! You jump up from your chair and make your way to the exit, pushing the others aside.

Three! You crawl between two lovers about to kiss. Two! A hand grabs you, but you forcefully pull away, not caring how rough it might look. One! You finally break out of the pub, look around and spot him sitting on the ground, leaning against the side of the building. His eyes glazed over and froze in horror.

In the snares

(Ghost x reader. Colleagues to friends. Platonic. Oneshot)

You cover your mouth with your hand to keep from screaming. Your squadmates are so close and at the same time incredibly far away. One by one they sneak past without noticing you. The pain becomes unbearable: it seems that the teeth of the trap are already grinding your bones. Tears well up in your eyes, but you still don't let yourself break the silence, knowing that screaming will reveal more than just your position - it will reveal the whole squad.

It's only when you see the last person - your lieutenant, a small, painful exhale escapes your lips. And as soon as it happens - he stops in his tracks.

"Go on, please, go on, don't stop," you think, watching him silently from the pit, you fell in. But Ghost doesn't even think to go further after his squad - instead he looks around.

This man just has inhuman instincts. You follow his gaze, scanning the environment: trodden grass, broken branches of bushes, dew wiped with fingers from large leaves. And then his eyes fall on you. You are ready to swear that due to the dense layer of deadwood, your body cannot be seen from the point where it stands. But he looks into your eyes and orders with one glance: get up.

To gift a touch

"Oh, what smells that nice?" You hear an unfamiliar voice from the hallway.

"None of your business, Soap. Stay where you are, I'll bring your papers," Alex replies calmly, but after a minute you hear footsteps approaching the kitchen.

An unfamiliar man peeps in and waves enthusiastically at you. You're not sure which pleased him more: the new face or the plate of cookies on the table in front of you.

"Wow, Alex, you could have just say that you are not alone!" a man speaks loudly, comes up to you and holds out his hand.

"Hi, I'm Soap, a colleague of your, uh, friend?" He shakes your hand, and you don't even have time to answer, because he immediately grabs the cookie and asks, "Did you bake him one?"

You shake your head and start laughing softly.

"Wait, he, Alex Keller, baked the cookies? I didn't know he had any talent other than organizing popular uprisings..." You laugh harder as Soap adds loudly, "Fights for the good guys AND bakes delicious pastry - what a wife-material!"

You are about to lose it, when Alex returns to the kitchen. "Soap, you know, I love you with all my heart, but right now I really consider something, i will regret later..."
