Hypatia 4.1 — I've uploaded a new version of my programmable RPN calculator app for Windows (RPN is "Reverse Polish Notation"). Idiosyncratic as it is, once you've got a little accustomed to it you can easily use it for quick simple or not so simple calculations, but its many features, including named variables and scripts with loops and If/Then/Else clauses, also make it a powerful tool to deal with far more demanding calculation tasks. Still it has a very small footprint — the download zip file, including the exe file (no installation needed) and the PDF manuals, is less than 1 MB. Free, of course, and open source. If you have any questions, problems or suggestions, let me know.

It's National Nurses Week!
(Plus, my book is on SALE!) And so we are subjected to several interviews (CBC Ontario This Morning, for example) with people who have no idea what nursing is. This morning a very patient nurse practitioner had to explain multiple times what a nurse PRACTITIONER does as vs. a regular nurse. Their expanded role is essential to the provision of primary health care, and they and other specialist…

NEW OVERNIGHT: Channel 9 in Manila sets to undergo dramatic reformat from 'CNN Philippines' to 'RPTV'
Tumblr media
MANDALUYONG, NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION -- DZKB-TV Channel 9 in Metro Manila (where previously known as CNN Philippines), is set to undergo reformatting process, and will be rebranded the next day as 'RPTV'. The transition follows the shutdown of the flagship English news channel in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday (January 31, 2024 -- Manila local time).
The move is part of a strategic decision by Manny Veles Pangilingan's TV5 to provide content to Channel 9, potentially including a prime-time newscast. This shift in programming is expected to bring a fresh perspective and diverse content offerings to viewers across the nation.
Announcements regarding the reformatting of the said flagship channel of RPN to 'RPTV' were made through various social media platforms, including Facebook and YouTube (both were owned by Meta Platforms Inc. and Google's Alphabet), which can be shown after the 10pm sign-off in the animated test loop commercial.

Just for fun, some info about the symbol ÷. It is literally a dot in the numerator and a dot in the denominator, where the object to the left replaces the first dot and the object to the right replaces the second. As for the style guides, I would love to have references, because I strongly suspect "everything to the right" is for things like 3÷236 and not 3÷200+30+6.
However, and I'm opening a can of worms here, we could avoid the issue entirely by using either prefix notation: × ÷ 6 2 + 1 2, or (my preference) postfix notation: 6 2 ÷ 1 2 + ×. This notation is unambiguous. Using spaces as delimiters, there is only one way to interpret each of these expressions.
Note, prefix notation such as × ÷ 6 2 + 1 2 is closely related to function notation as in MUL(DIV(6,2),ADD(1,2)).
Postfix notation is also used in computer-related languages such as Adobe's PostScript plotter of language:
6 2 DIV 1 2 ADD MUL
which yields 9 as the result.
Postfix notation was also used by some of the earliest high performance scientific calculators, where it was referred to as RPN.

002. SIGN OF THE TIMES.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hi ! this is my SECOND ever doc template, yes I did come back for round two, and i’m very proud of it <3. I worked pretty hard on this doc, trying a lot of new things out. if you are planning on using this doc ( blushing ) please do not remove the credits.
・the link to the doc can be found in the source link! ・sign of the times is a new york times themed doc with certain layouts taken directly from the new york times website! ( https://www.nytimes.com/ ) a prime example of this being the first page of the doc! it has a black and white color palette as well that can be altered with different pictures and different colors of font! ・the doc itself is roughly 6 pages and consists of character synopsis, basic information, appearance, appearance description, personality, personality description, backstory, 11 connections with brief descriptions and 3 word descriptions and many bullets for extra notes or headcanons! ・it also has room for 15 different pictures of your character and 11 pictures for connections! ・sign of the times is not a mobile friendly doc. it just looks funky and overlaps a lot on mobile. also, there are several google drawings that are not accessible for mobile users! ・the faceclaim shown on the doc is @selenagomez on instagram ・likes and reblogs are SO appreciated, thank you SO much for your support!               - quickly, i’d like to regard the title “The New York Times”         - i fully understand if you want to change the title to something else ! but to do so, you’ll have to use an outside source.          - you’ll have to find a website that offers the new york times font for download. ( I used https://www.fontspace.com/category/new-york-times )         - type in what you want your title to be, download the image or screenshot it and then replace the image on the doc itself !         - i know its inconvenient, and i’m so sorry ! if you’re unable to do it, contact me and we’ll work it out!
again, this is only my 2nd ever doc template ! i’m still learning the route of things and how to utilize doc’s in the best way. with that aside, i’d like to thank all of you for the great response i got on my last doc and my 1st doc, claremont st. it was so motivating and i am so so so appreciative! if you do have any suggestions or questions, feel free to DM me ! this can either be on tumblr, or on discord. my @ is rxcya#7080. with that being said, here is sign of the times, a doc by RXCYA 7.28.23

Attended a very small gathering of people who also want to talk bout geo stuff and mining and they pointed out three things:
1) Take pointers from the eco groups. Be emotional. Engage in the discussion.
2) Do not pull content from LinkedIn which is corporate dipshittery into public forum space.
3) (my own) Talk about the science behind the topic so you're explaining how the thing works, not why people should like the Thing.
All of these fall back under engagement really. People are smart; they can make their own conclusions.
