Look at what I am reading in the Bible. “Stand up in the presence of the elderly, and show respect for the aged. Fear your God. I am the Lord.”
‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭19‬:‭32‬
I think I have a good job. I am a certified nurse assistant. I take care of the elderly in a nursing home. It is not easy to take care of the elderly sometimes because some patients have dementia, weakness, and psychological illnesses. They get confused and anxious. In my opinion, you have to have a kind and patient heart with them. You also need to have a humbled heart. As a nurse assistant, we have to clean the patient. Clean them like change their diaper and clean their room because infection control is a thing. Shower them. Feed them. Give them companionship. I also have noticed that taking care of the elderly has helped me respect my parents more. Also think of God more. I like to pray with the patients because some patients love it when I pray for them. So, I like this Bible verse how God says we need to respect the elderly. God knows everything we do. Nothing is hidden from Him.

It's National Nurses Week!
(Plus, my book is on SALE!) And so we are subjected to several interviews (CBC Ontario This Morning, for example) with people who have no idea what nursing is. This morning a very patient nurse practitioner had to explain multiple times what a nurse PRACTITIONER does as vs. a regular nurse. Their expanded role is essential to the provision of primary health care, and they and other specialist…

Benefits and Challenges of Pursuing a Career as a Travel LPN
Tumblr media
For Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) with a restless spirit and a thirst for adventure, the call of the open road can be deafening. Travel LPN positions offer a tantalizing blend of career growth, financial rewards, and the chance to explore new horizons. But is it all sunshine and smooth sailing? Before packing your bags and hitting the highway, let's navigate the pros and cons of becoming a travel LPN.
Benefits
Higher pay and perks: Travel LPNs earn significantly more than their staff counterparts, with hourly rates often exceeding $40. Additionally, many agencies offer generous benefits packages including housing, travel stipends, and even health insurance.
Flexibility and adventure: Imagine ditching the routine and choosing where you work next! Travel LPNs pick assignments based on location, desired length, and specialty. This autonomy opens doors to exploring new cities, experiencing diverse cultures, and fulfilling long-held travel dreams.
Skill expansion and career growth: Stepping into different healthcare environments exposes you to varied patient populations and treatment protocols. This constant learning fosters professional development and broadens your skillset, making you a more well-rounded LPN.
Escaping workplace drama: By nature, travel assignments are temporary. This avoids getting entangled in long-term workplace politics and allows you to focus solely on providing excellent patient care.
Challenges
Loneliness and isolation: Moving from place to place can leave you feeling disconnected from friends and family. Building a support system in unfamiliar cities and managing solo living requires extra effort.
Constant adaptation: New facilities, staff, and routines can be daunting. Be prepared for a steep learning curve with each assignment and the challenge of quickly integrating into new teams.
Unpredictable work conditions: Some facilities may need more staffing or challenging patient populations. Travel LPNs need to be adaptable and flexible, embracing the unknown that comes with temporary placements.
Deciding your path
Pursuing a career as a travel LPN isn't for everyone. It requires resilience, adaptability, and a strong sense of independence. Weighing the benefits and challenges against your personality, priorities, and life goals is crucial. If wanderlust and professional growth fuel your fire, then embracing the road less traveled might be the adventure you've been yearning for.
Tips for success
Network and build relationships: Connect with other travel LPNs for valuable advice and support. Strong professional connections can lead to future opportunities.
Stay organized and adaptable: Manage your finances, pack efficiently, and be prepared to adjust to new environments quickly. Flexibility and a positive attitude are your best assets.

America clearly needs qualified nurses. Have you ever wondered why there always seems to be a shortage of nurses? It’s a big issue that’s been around even before the pandemic and other big world events. America needs nurses—lots of them. The American Nurses Association and the Bureau of Labor Statistics both highlight a critical need for over a million new registered nurses (RNs) to fill the gap. But why is there a nursing shortage?

I had a seizure during an unrelated doctor appointment and when I came to, the right side of my body was paralyzed. We suspected a stroke and off to the ER I went. The doctor was a man and spoke to me and my other doctor like I was faking it for attention and would've left me in the room had my other doctor not advocated for me. My family and husband (he very loudly tore into the doctor for how he was treating me) were called and permitted into the room, and saw how this POS was treating and talking to me. I didn't regain the ability to move my right side for another six hours. Later, I was diagnosed with Tom's Paralysis (a rare post-seizure condition that causes temporary paralysis, and there is no treatment other than a nap). If it had been a stroke, and my husband and other doctor not helped me, I would be dead because this POS would've left me there.
Has anyone in your life ever tried to pull a John Q. (2002)?
Not that I'm aware of, but there were a few times I thought @mothman-etd was going to jump over the top of me to punch some people.
I still remember the flat look that went over his face when a doctor turned to him and said "women can be so anxious sometimes" when I was in the ER for possible heart attack symptoms.

The term “scope of practice or nursing scope of practice” describes the activities that a person with a license to practice as a health professional is allowed to do. These activities are increasingly governed by laws passed by state legislatures and by regulations made by the relevant licensing body.
