sponge cake recipe from 1954

including; filling recipe, strawberry version, and strawberry juice.

Izabela's note; sponge cakes can be made in many different ways, so for the entry i included about 6 different variations. All have a relatively similar result, but it's fun with variations <33

Measurements

1 dl - 0,47 cups, 100 milliliters, 3.38 ounces

[aka. 1.5] 1 1/2 - 0,625 cups, 150 milliliters, 5,07 ounces

[aka. 1.25] 1 1/4 - 0,52 cups, 125 milliliters, 4,22 ounces

2 dl - 0,84 cups, 200 milliliters, 6,76 ounces

Sponge cake

one tea spoon baking soda

this may seem like an unnecessary entry [and it might as well be] but it's to put pressure on the fact that the amount of baking soda does determine a good part of the result. So try out recipes till you find one you like the most<3

3 dl all purpose flour

Izabela's note 2; this translation from norwegian was done by hand, and not through google translate. So please don't hesitate to correct me, or ask if any confusion occurs.

Sponge cake is preferably cooked in a round form with a loose bottom part. Always butter the form well.

Whisk the eggs together first, then add sugar. Whisk it with force and quickly enough for a texture to be formed. With a good [electronic/automatic] whisp, this will take no more than 5 - 10 minutes.

Pour them in the flour [both types of multiple types are used] through a sieve, then the baking soda. Use a stirrer, and gently fold the flour through the mix. The mix must be as airy as possible.

Once finishes, and no clumps are seen, pour the mixture into the pre-buttered form. Put it in the oven at 180-200 degrees celsius, at the lowest rack. Then let it sit in there for about 40 minutes before checking it. If it's not finished or cooked to your preferences, put it back in, but id recommend no more than 60 minutes in total.

Remember - don't open the over for the first 20 minutes. As cold air may cause the cake to deflate.

Filling and slicing [be careful when working with knives]

Put the, now cooled down, sponge cake on a baking paper, use a thin and sharp knife and stick it into the top third part of the cake. Then carefully slice it open so the cake is decided into two parts. One being 2/3 of the cake, the top part being 1/3.

Then turn the cake and repeat the process on the bottom part, to the end up with 3, 1/3 parts.

Put the bottom and middle part and lightly coat them with a layer of either wine or strawberry juice in this case [recipe for this at the bottom].

Fill then the cake with whatever filling you'd like. The recipe for this will come at the bottom of the post.

The way the cake will then be constructed will look something as such;

After the sponge cake and filling itself has been constructed, as said, with strawberry juice, there are still some remaining things we can add to the cake for more strawberry additions.

An example of this can be to add some strawberries to the filling. Not necessarily a lot, but to me personally, it's a very nice and sweet touch to the cake.

Another option to consider might be to cut up strawberries, and use as decorative additives. Which is my personal favorite.

Yet another that has been used commonly in my family is to put thin strawberry slices between layers on the cake. Such a beautiful personal touch that i adore <3

Filling/Cover

3 dl whipped cream

1 table spoon sugar

1 table spoon vanilla extract

If the mixture is too thin/thick, there are other options.

Too thick; add some water, a few spoons at a time. A little water can go great lengths.

Too thin; Add powdered sugar, or even some potato flour if you're feeling bold. But keep in mind that this may affect the taste.

Strawberry juice

if you know how to make strawberry jam, you're already set. Though if you don't, then fear not, for i do.

for 1 portion [3 portions are recommended for the sponge cake]

Put a batch of strawberries, aboit 1.5 handfuls in a pot on medium heat. Use either a fork or potato musher to crush them to mush.

Pour in 1 dl of sugar to mixture once the strawberries are crushed.

As said, this is homemade strawberry jam. But this is filling we're making

Therefore, add 0,5 dl water to the pot.

Obviously, this is a free for trial and error space, so if you're not satisfied with the results, use cornstarch to thicken it [very little is needed] and water to make it thinner.

Izabela's note 3; The only words taken from the book is the measurements and recipes. Everything else is handwritten by myself.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks of Destiel when I listen to "Strawberry Blonde" by the amazing and wonderful Mitski? Like there are so many lines that correlate to them. And I would love to make an animation of them with that song if I wasn't so shit at drawing but still like envision it with me. Like I can picture it from Cas' POV. For example,

"I love everybody because I love you"

is a line that speaks for itself

They can be driving in the Impala while Dean has his hand out,

Can be about Lisa, like it reminds me of her but it would be like in that episode where Dean is panicking about Crowley having Lisa and Ben but it'd cut to Cas watching with that sad little expression on his face

Cas wanting free will like Dean has and so he follows with his plan to get to purgatory, and when Dean finds out and doesn't trust Cas anymore and tells him he thought they were family, Cas is still keeping himself strictly on that road even if it hurts

Can you hear the bumblebees swarm?

These lines just remind me of the "Crazy Cas" Era like he would be more honest with himself about how he feels and like also, the bees. Also, for the "call my name part" I think that'd be like the praying because Dean never prays to really anyone one else besides Cas.

Overall, anytime I listen to this song it makes me think of them and it just makes me happy. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

I imagine a modern AU scenario where Vanilla is invited by Strawberry Crepe to play some video games and is interested to buy some for him and his wife, but the catch is that he is literally so. God. Awful. At almost every single genre there is to the point where it pisses Crepe off so the only kind of games he bought are farming sims. Just straight-up, farming sims. Not even a different kind of cozy game, though Crepe tried to gift him a few puzzle and rhythm-based ones just to add some variety to his selection, but it still isn't too effective because that old geezer sucks THAT bad.

(P.S. I'm not implying that farming or life sims are for losers I'm just saying that PV would definitely pour hours onto his Animal Crossing island or something)

White Lily on the other hand... I imagine her having a bit more tech literacy than Vanilla somehow (being the smart one and working as a scientist and all) and is a literal god at puzzle and rhythm games for some unknown reason to the point where even her own husband and the other Ancients find her terrifying. Not a single breathing person knows how she reached that level of skill, and that's only the icing on the cake of how eccentric of a cookie she can be. That sopping wet cat...

This post is something that can actually be so personal and no I am not done talking about it. There's a whole concept behind it and the fucking hair ties are just one way of channeling it but oh boy is it a good one. This works so well with the hair braiding too and i cannot think about it to much or i will spontaneously combust, but I had to so I hope you enjoy the result of it.

Joel has a hair tie on his wrist because Ellie forgets to take a spare and when the first one breaks or she loses it somehow, he can offer it to her before her hair becomes an annoyance.

He has one because she gives it to him sometimes when they're laying on the couch and her ponytail makes resting her head on a pillow or against his chest uncomfortable. At times she also takes it out simply because her scalp is especially sensitive that day and the constant pull becomes painful after a while. There's always another one in his jacket pocket, too, so when Ellie asks him for braids afterward or allows him to do her hair he isn't limited to simpler styles.

It starts with hair ties in Jackson but there are months of different acts preceding it.

Joel carried whatever he could for her, taking more than necessary sometimes because the slim line of her shoulders being weighed down by her backpack made his heart ache even when he couldn't admit it to himself back then, not at first at least. There are water bottles, sweatshirts she cannot quite fit into hers that day, all of their food, whatever first aid materials he can find, even a spare bar of soap.

Then he starts carrying hair ties once they get to Jackson and suddenly he needs to keep a brush on him, too, and with the brush comes a comb and with the comb comes a hat and with the hat comes a homemade creme he traded for since her hands are uncomfortably dry sometimes (she never said so but he knows her), and after that what started as a small piece of twisted fabric turns into him carry a bag around that is filled with everything his brain thinks Ellie might require at some point. Sure, maybe he is being a little bit overprotective and maybe Tommy jokes about getting him a purse several times, but he can offer her sunscreen and a bottle of water during summer, he gives her gloves and a scarf in winter when she doesn't remember to put them on before leaving, there's always one of her books in a side pocket, too, and as soon as he finds her a new one, her Walkman gets an especially safe place in his bag.

And yes, he fusses over her a little bit too much, maybe even to the point of being smothering sometimes (she always tells him to back off when that happens and he does without complaint), but Ellie grew up utterly alone and without someone to look after her for fourteen years, she deserves to know what it is like to be cared about by someone. Whatever she asks for, whatever she needs, he gives it to her even when she could walk home and come back with the thing in question in less than ten minutes. There's always a snack, a spare sweatshirt in case she gets cold, space for the one she takes off when she gets too warm, a small sketchbook and a pencil both as a distraction and so she can draw whenever she feels like it.

No one pays any attention to it, and while Tommy softly teases him about it from time to time, the smile that blooms on Ellie's face when he quietly gives her something she needs based on nothing but hardwired instincts before the words leave her mouth tells him everything he needs to know.

Joel might not be good with words, but he continues to carry a bag and hands her little pieces of his love time and time again, hoping she can put the puzzle together, hoping she knows.

Ellie does the same, hoping Joel notices it, hoping he knows what it means, that with every time she tells him to rest, every cup of coffee on his nightstand, every night spent in his bed when she wakes to the mere suggestion of a nightmare and brushes them away before they can settle so she can put herself in their place instead, every trashy action movie she borrows from the library for their weekly movie night, every handmade guitar pick she gifts him, every single gesture she does not have to do but does regardless because she wants to, she is saying I love you, too.

They notice, they care, they willing hand over carefully chosen parts of themselves and the puzzle they piece together is one and the same, because paying attention to things is how they show love and it is oh so easy when there is nothing to look at but each other.
