When I saw this caterpillar, I scooped him up for Ava, unaware of the magic about to take place that night! I had no idea they would burrow into wood to make their cocoon like that. We learn this is the American Dagger Moth and he loves the leaves of several types of trees. Luckily I used the jar and didn’t pick him up with my hands because they do sting. A man came to buy a chipper the other day and as I helped him load it into his clean car, I asked if he had kids. An almost 3 year old and one close to being born. I picked the tallest sunflower (probably 13 feet or more) which was in perfect bloom, gave it to him and told him "give this to your wife and make her smile." I don't say this for a pat on the back. We should all be doing the right thing and nice things every day, simply because it's the right thing to do and makes the world a better place.
