Sherlock & Co - Mailbag Episode 3 Transcript
00:00 John: Heyyy there, I’m,uh, I’m, uh, back in your ears! Heh. Uh, thanks for inviting me in. Um, I-I just wanted to add a chunk on before this Q and A just to give you an update on all things Gloria Scott. Uh, thanks so much for the kind words, first off. Uh I-I-I did warn about its angst. Um, and I appreciate i-it’s not always a fun ride when, when those kinds of things happen. Um. But hey! I’m glad you all enjoyed it. Um, glad the masterful sound design was appreciated.
00:32 John: Uhm, yeah I thought I’d, I’d check in now and give you a rundown of it all. Post match interview sort of stuff. Uh, Lionel did recover from the stroke. He is out of hospital, but he will be going back to Australia. Um. He’s-he's obviously cooperating with the government, um, down there. It’s not an easy situation, but he’s handling it with remarkable grace and dignity. Um. Victor is, as well. Can’t quite get the read on things with him at the moment. He’s obviously very, very torn. Uh, we solved the case for him, but, y’know, yeah. H-he’s in a much worse place then he was before. Um. *pause* Such is life. Uh, such is a very complicated life, I should say. He’s helping his dad, with the inquiries. Uh, m-my gut says there’ll be prison time. *sucks teeth* Um, y’know, c-cooperation and evidence and the, yeah, t-the mitigating circumstances might be helpful to Lionel and all, but, uh… *deep breath* ultimately lives were lost. He was complicit. Y’know this is the world we live in.
01:49 John: *sucks teeth* Victor has paused the job search, but uh I-I do believe he’ll be coming back to the UK once, y’know, whatever happens, happens. But, uh, yeah. Tough stuff. Um, glad you all enjoyed Mariana joining in on the adventure. Um, don’t know if she enjoyed it all that much. So far she’s watched corpses get pulled out of the canal and now she’s watched an elderly stroke victim get extradited for murder. So, uh, y’know. *chuckles lightly* Welcome to the world of true crime, Ametxazurra!
02:23 John:Um, Sherlock asked me to apologize, also, actually. Um, yes, to apologize that he wasn’t technically correct in his solving of the case. Um, uh, Hunter did reveal the actual truth. I, I told him people wouldn’t really mind. He got me to apologize anyway, so, uh, yeah. There you go. Um, so he’s been a right mopey bastard, as you can imagine. *clears throat* So, to cheer him up, I carted him off to…an indoor theme park! Heh, yeah, you heard that right. Theme park. But indoors. Well, theme park’s a bit strong to be honest. I-I-It’s like an arcade with an indoor roller coaster. But yeah! Y’know! Uhm, back to Camden, but for a much more enjoyable experience.
03:05 John: These questions were asked, um, before The Gloria Scott episode aired. T-two that I ask Sherlock right at the end are eerily prescient. Um, that’s the right word, I think? Uh, I hope. Welp, you’ll see what I mean. Enjoy!
03:19-3:49 *Intro Music*
03:47 *Arcade Sounds Fade In, we can hear Sherlock exerting himself*
03:50 John: Yoooo, wassup guys! Welcome to the John Watson channel where we talk all things John Watson all the time! Ehh, that’s my impression of a youtuber or real podcaster, hope you enjoyed it. Ah, right, Sherlock, tell the members where we are.
04:01 Sherlock: Indoor theme park! Augh! *through gritted teeth* You little alien bastard! Get back here!
04:09 John: Sherlock is doing some whack-a-mole, ah, or they’re aliens in this place, not moles. Could be alien moles. Who knows. Ah, it’s an indoor theme park in *in a very exaggerated North London accent (genuinely he sounds like an ass here)* North London. That’s North London, sorry. Bit excited. Had about a kilogram of sugar. Haha, I’m looking at all sorts here. Arcade machines, carousels, basketball hoop game thingy, air hockey, bumper cars -dodge’ems, call’em what you will-, and an indoor roller coaster! Hahahaa! It’s wild stuff. Okay, let’s get to some questions over a casual game of air hockey.
04:40 *Audio Cut, sounds of air hockey being played*
04:41 Sherlock: Have that! *puck hit sound* And that!
04:44 John: ‘Have that and that’? What are you, a musketeer? Hahahaaaa! *sound of a puck entering the goal* First point Watson! Heyheyheeeey, ahhhh. And now for the first question. Uh, Tonkster aka Resetoaster asks, “To John and Sherlock, if you go to Subway -the fast food I should clarify- what do you usually order?”
05:03 Sherlock: *with exertion* You’re *sound of the puck being hit* distracting me! Ah!
05:06 John: Ah, you wouldn’t be saying that if you were winning.
05:07 Sherlock: I’m not winning *puck hit sound* precisely because of it.
05:11 John: Alright, fine. I’ll answer. Uh, I like the turkey club. Is that-Ow! That hit my finger. *hisses in pain*- I think there’s a turkey one. Um, I like that one on plain-ish bread. I don’t think their fancy breads are all that good. Uh, and then I’ll have a southwest sauce- Wham! Haha! *sound of puck entering goal*
05:23 Sherlock: Oh, bugger.
05:26 John: Subway order?
05:26 Sherlock: Never been.
05:27 John: Great.
05:27 *audio cuts. Sounds of automatic rifle fire going off*
05:29 John: Reloading. Cover me!
05:29 Sherlock: Covering.
05:30 John: Incoming at your two o’clock.
05:31 Sherlock: On it!
05:32 *sounds of two loud gunshots*
05:33 John: Yesss, Sherlock. Right, through the lobby. Okay, let’s see how this goes. Bellaxbear01 asks “If you guys want another pet, what animal would it be? Another dog, another cat, or maybe a fish?”
05:47 Sherlock: I like fish. *sound of gunshots* Very much. Reloading.
05:50 John: *pleased* Oh, hahah! I like fish too!
05:52 Sherlock: Really?
05:53 John: Yeah! Tropical?
05:54 Sherlock: Tropical or temperate.
05:56 John: Well that’s good to know. Yeah, worth maybe one day looking into that? Oo! Getting shot at here. Uh, Amelie5 asks “Do you have a favorite case you’ve solved so far?
06:05 *sounds of a big gun being fired*
06:07 Sherlock: A good question at bloody last. Die you bastards! *big boom*
06:12 John: Oh wowhaowhaooow! *sounds of I guess dirt falling, maybe bodies???* *with a smile in his voice* Oh, you made him blow up! Ha! Ahh, I know the feeling. Poor sod.
06:18 Sherlock: I rather enjoyed the Red Headed League.
06:22 John: Yep, that was a goodun. -Oh, duck down! That’s a machine gun.- Did you like the Red Headed League because of the case or because it proved me wrong about it being boring?
06:27 Sherlock: Mmm, both.
06:28 John: Great, well-oh I’m dead. *sound of man yelling, presumably John’s character dying in the game* Balls.
06:31 *audio cut. Ambient arcade sounds with something fizzing at the forefront*
06:34 John: What is that?
06:35 Sherlock: *struggling to speak* opp ing andy.
06:37 John: Opping Andy?
06:38 Sherlock: *still struggling to speak, but clearly annoyed* Op-opping. Andy.
06:41 John: Ohhhh, popping candy. Right. Well, RangerPip asks any specific reason you started smoking a pipe?
06:49 Sherlock: *unintellible gargling and consonant sounds*
06:54 John: Right, well, if you understood that RangerPip, well done you, haheh. *pause* *in a considering tone* Hunnh. He may or may not be choking.
07:03 *audio cut, loud music and bumper car sounds*
07:04 John: Ah!
07:04 Sherlock: Ahahaha!
07:05 John: Hahahah, left! Left! Left!
07:08 Both: Ah! *sound of impact*
07:09 John: Oh my god, my ribs! Argh, right! Let’s get up some more speed and smash into these kids-uh, I mean! These, um, big burly blokes.
07:17 Sherlock: Here we go.
07:20 John: Yesss, Sherlock, we are at some speed now, baby! Hahahah, right! Question from Raylein, “Does Archie get human food? And if he does, who feeds it to him?”
07:30 John: Ah yeah I do feed him, I-
07:30 Sherlock: Yes.
07:33 John: Wait.
07:34 Sherlock: What?
07:35 John: You’re feeding him as well?
07:36 Sherlock: I am, yes!
07:38 John: Well, that explains a lot. Uh, yeah Raylein, I don’t really like animal products going to waste so I just, um, I chuck him all sorts. Ope, here we go. Come here you little shits.
07:44 Sherlock: Ahhhhhhhh!
07:45 John: *sound of impact* Ah hahah!
07:48 *audio cut, it’s much quieter now, but they’re still at the arcade*
07:49 John: *remorsefully* I just didn’t think they’d cry and tell their mums is all.
07:51 Sherlock: That’s what children do. *accusingly* You told me to smash into them.
07:55 John: I did not say that.
07:57 Sherlock: Can I get the SD card out of your microphone and check?
08:00 John: No.
08:01 Sherlock: See.
08:02 John: Andrew says, “Question for Sherlock: Do you have any piercings? And, if you don’t, do you want any? And, if you do, which ones do you want?”
08:10 Sherlock: *sucks in a deep breath* Ear piercing. I haven’t used it for some time.
08:14 John: Why not?
08:15 Sherlock: Was that asked in the Discord?
08:17 John: What?
08:18 Sherlock: That. Just then.  The ‘Why not?’
08:21 John: …No.
08:22 Sherlock: *takes a breath* Well then. I needn’t answer it. This is a time for members.
08:26 John: Right. Great. Lovely. Ok, MushPit says “Your deductive skills, was it talent you were born with or a skill that you developed and perfected over time?”
08:34 Sherlock: I assume MushPit is asking me, not you?
08:37 John: Ah ha ha, very funny.
08:40 Sherlock: My senses have always been, um-
08:43 John: Overcalibrated?
08:44 Sherlock: Yes, quite. Sooo, I’ve always observed a lot. When I found it difficult to tune out of my surroundings, I decided to analyze them. Then it became rather addictive. Yes, it became a skill, but I feel it much stronger then a skill. It feels like a byproduct of my very existence. I cannot unlearn it. IIII cannot wind it down or soften it. It occupies me as much as I do it. I fear that I  cannot stop it. Even if it kills me. Even if it drains everything from me and I can never truly find it to know myself, to know my surroundings without the necessity…uh, no, the-the requisite to my very self. To t-try to understand everything-
09:33 John: The rollercoaster’s ready.
09:34 Sherlock: Oh.
09:35 John: Uh, we- we can finish if you want? Uh, y’know we can go on it later?
09:40 *audio cut, we can hear the roller coaster going and John and Sherlock on it. John keeps saying ‘Woohoo! Wheee!’ and Sherlock is saying joyfully ‘Bloody fantastic! Absolutely bloody fantastic!’ Both of them also keep laughing in between their exclamations*
09:48 *audio cut. We’re outside. London traffic can be heard.*
09:53 John: Oh that was good! Wasn’t it?
09:54 Sherlock: *pleased* Superb.
09:56 John: Not a bad idea, is it? A theme park, indoors? I mean we were a little old for it, but hey, y’know, there’s no age limit on enjoyment! Well, I mean you can’t go jumping into a soft play or anything like that, but yeah. Yeah. Now we are walking near Chalk Farm. Not actually a farm of chalk, of course. It’s just a nice place between Bellsides Park and the Northern end of Camden town. How’s that q and a session for you, mate?
10:16 Sherlock: Is that question on the Discord?
10:17 John: Right, ok. This is not a thing. You can still have normal chats with me inbetween members questions.
10:25 Sherlock: Noted.
10:26 John: Well it’s a question for me now anyway. Um, has your mother finally listened to the podcast? And if yes, what does she think of it? Uh, yes, has she listened? She has! She didn’t like the sound of my bomb. That makes two of us, there. Eheh. Uh, and she sent me further messages about Mariana. And! She will occasionally point out when I’ve been rude to people on the show. *clicks tongue* She also asked me if the Austrian man’s face was okay, so she has at least, definitely finished one adventure. And, no. His face is not. Ok. Mum. Uhh, so- hunh, this is weird.
10:59 Sherlock: What’s that?
11:01 John: Two questions here, next to each other. Uh, I-I’m not making this up. First one, Ramt or-or Ramtonk, “t-the flowers on my orchids are gone, but the plants themselves are thriving. Uhh, they’re watered as they should be and get optimal sunlight. Will the flowers ever come back?”
11:19 Sherlock: *pleasantly surprised* Hhha!
11:20 John: Right? Yeah and the second one from Batonks the Graveyard Ghost says, “Question for John, do you have any funny memories from your childhood that you’d like to share with us?”
11:30 Sherlock: Yes, that is quite remarkable.
11:32 John: Well! I’ll let the adventure of The Gloria Scott answer those questions! So, ah, everybody, thanks so much for these. I hope you enjoyed the answers. Sorry it’s been so short, but I’ve just noticed that that’s our bus!! We’re gonna miss it! Go! Go! Go!
11:46 Sherlock: *frustrated sigh* For goodness sake!
11:47-12:17 *Outro Music Plays*

OH SHIT WE BOTH AUSSIES
HELL FUCKING YES. SOMETHING SOMETHING AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OI OI OI!
Lmao but it's SO good to talk to another Aussie omgcp person bc goddam. I almost got into hockey bc of this comic and was only stymied by Australia's actual lack of 1. Televised hockey games and 2. Actual lack of ice hockey except for a minor league that had less teams country wide than the whole sum of roller derby does in a single Aussie city. No one understands my pain lmao
Anyway! Helloooo!

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Right Skates for You
Tumblr media
It's time to get your skates on, folks! If you're an avid skater or just starting out, you need a good pair of socal skates Australia to keep up with your friends. Skates come in all shapes and sizes, but they can be pretty confusing to choose from. To help you get started on the right foot (pardon the pun), we've put together this guide to help you figure out which type of skate is right for you.
Determine which type of skate you are looking for
With so many different types of skates available, it's important to determine which type of skating you want to do before purchasing your first pair. Skates are designed for different types of terrain and experience level. For example, aggressive skates are built with a stiffer frame that allows the skater more control over their movements while grinding on rails or rails alone (rail-to-rail). These skaters also tend to be more experienced than recreational skaters because they often have more tricks under their belt--and thus need the extra support that comes with a stiffer boot.
Tumblr media
Determine if you want indoor or outdoor skates
Now that you know the basics of skate design, it's time to determine what type of skating you'll be doing. If your favorite activity is street hockey or roller derby, then outdoor skates are the way to go. They're made for rough surfaces and can handle lots of abuse. However, if comfort is more important than speed (or vice versa), then indoor skates might be better suited for your needs.
Determine if you want a high-top or low top style boot
If you're going to be skating a lot, it's worth investing in a pair of skates that offer more ankle support. High-top boots have extra padding around the ankles and keep your feet warmer during colder weather. Low-top skates Australia are lighter and easier to move around in, but they don't provide as much ankle support as their high-top counterparts. If you're just starting out or are looking for something casual, low-tops are probably best since they'll give you plenty of flexibility while still being sturdy enough for everyday use.
Determine Size
Before you can choose the right inline skates for women, you need to determine your size. Skate manufacturers make their products in a variety of sizes, so it's important that you know what size skate is best for your foot. The three most important things to consider when determining skate size are construction (frame), size (wheel), and boot/ankle guard: - Frame Size - This refers to the length of a skate's frame from toe cap to heel cap. Most frames measure in inches; however some may be metric or imperial units as well. - Wheel Size - Wheels come in many different diameters as well as durometer ratings (hardness). For example: 80mm wheels are generally considered recreational skates; 90mm wheels are more advanced recreational skates; 100mm+ wheels are designed for speed skating or racing purposes Conclusion We hope this article has helped you determine which type of roller skate is right for you. There are many different styles and brands available today, so it can be overwhelming at first glance! If you're still unsure about which type of skate to get, we recommend starting out with inline skates Australia because they are the most common. Once you feel comfortable enough on these types of skates then try something new like quad or inline hockey. Read the full article

Note
on your final note on that impeccable roller skating analysis: could you expand on australia being beloved by the hockey world, for a new aussie hockey fan? i know a little of the players who've made it to the nhl from here, but beyond that and the fact that we have our own tiny hockey ecosystem, i haven't really seen any other discussions! and certainly none on our reputation among the global community (but it is wonderful to know that hockey cares about us, ty <3)
Of course! Like every other league, Australian ice hockey has been affected by the pandemic, so I have to admit that talk about it on tumblr has probably died down. (I’m also really not a reliable source on what is and isn’t popular on hockey tumblr, so I may be speaking more on what I see in the sports dork community.) But when Australia is playing I’ve always seen a lot of positivity from the stats side as well as general goodwill from North American fans on here.
Largely because your national jersey is, and has always been, gorgeous.
Tumblr media
But Australia is also pretty consistently competitive in D2 international tournaments. (Discussion of those might be more on twitter and reddit than here?)
As that jersey suggests, there’s a lot of history to the program, which is closely tied to the history of UK ice hockey and Western Canadian hockey. Hockey historians have done some good writing about that—I especially enjoy icelegendsaustralia.
Tumblr media
[The Aussie national team snuggling in a hotel hallway in the 1990s]
In between international events, you’re most likely to find woho fans and sled/para folks talking about day-to-day Australian league stuff. In the mid 2010s there was a lot of appreciation for the Australian hockey community because they seem to share a lot of the best parts of the North American woho community at the time. The stories I hear coming out of Australia suggest that because it’s a smaller, less-discussed league, the players and fans who are in it tend to have a real enthusiasm and inclusive attitude.
While I’m sure there’s bias, there’s less of a chasm between the resources that players on competitive men’s and women’s teams, and the smaller pool means more integrated noncompetitive teams. The women’s teams are strong and trans athletes like Ella Licari (goalie for Syndey) have been playing for years, as well as the LGBTQ+ Harbor Lights team who started during the pandemic. Sled hockey has been growing really fast there too (it’s often big in places where standup hockey isn’t, just because sled hockey is such a unique sport for people with mobility disabilities). So there has been discussion about how the seemingly very positive growth of the game in Australia can be a model for programs in other communities.

HOCKEY
Hockey
Tumblr media
Hockey is a phrase that refers to a variety of summer and winter team games that developed on an outdoor field, sheet of ice, or dry floor, such as in a gymnasium.
There are many different types of hockey. Some games require skates, either wheeled or bladed, while others do not. To better distinguish between these numerous games, the word "hockey" is sometimes preceded by another word, such as "field hockey," or "ice hockey,"
In each of these sports, two teams compete by attempting to manoeuvre the object of play, which is either a type of ball or a disc into the opposing goal with a hockey stick.
In most of the world, the term "hockey" refers to field hockey, however in Canada, the United States, Russia, and the majority of Eastern and Northern Europe, it usually refers to ice hockey.
In recent times, the term "hockey" refers to both the summer stick-and-ball sport of field hockey and the winter ice team skating sports of bandy and ice hockey.
This is because field hockey and other stick and ball sports and their forms came before games played on ice with ice skates, such as bandy and ice hockey, as well as sports requiring dry floors such as roller hockey and floor hockey. The term "hockey" in common language is frequently determined by the location, geography, and the size and popularity of the sport in question.
Tumblr media
History
from around 600 BC in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens Games has been found that using bent sticks and a ball can be found in many cultures' histories.
for example :
Hurling dates back to before 1272 BC in Ireland
around 600 BC in Ancient Greece, where the game may have been called kerētízein or (κερητίζειν) since it was played with a horn or horn-like stick (kéras, κέρας).
For approximately 1,000 years, the Daur people of Inner Mongolia have played bikes, a game comparable to modern field hockey.
By the nineteenth century, the numerous forms and divisions of historical games had begun to separate and merge into the particular sports that we know today. Organizations devoted to the codification of rules and regulations arose, as did national and international bodies to manage the domestic and international competition.

Bandy is a sport that is played with a ball on a football pitch-sized ice arena (bandy rink), usually outside, and has several regulations that are similar to association football. It is a professional sport in Russia and Sweden.
The IOC recognises the sport, and the Federation of Worldwide Bandy is its international regulating organisation.
Bandy originated in England in the nineteenth century, was originally known as "hockey on the ice," and expanded from England to other European nations around 1900; a comparable Russian sport can also be considered as a precursor,
Women's Bandy World Championships have been held since 2004, and Bandy World Championships have been held since 1957. Many countries have national club championships, and the top clubs in the world compete in the Bandy World Cup every year.
Field Hockey
Field hockey is played with a small, hard ball of 73 mm (2.9 in) in diameter on gravel, natural grass, or sand-based or water-based artificial turf.
In many parts of the world, including Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Argentina, the game is popular among both males and females. In most nations, the game is played between single-sex teams, while mixed-sex teams can also compete. The International Hockey Federation, which has 126 members, is the governing organisation (FIH).
Except for 1912 and 1924, men's field hockey has been played at every Summer Olympic Games since 1908, while women's field hockey has been played since 1980.
Modern field hockey sticks are J-shaped, with a curved hook at the playing end, a flat surface on the playing side, and a curved surface on the backside, and are made of a composite of wood, glass fibre, or carbon fibre (sometimes both). Right-handed sticks are required; left-handed sticks are not authorised.
While field hockey as we know it now first originated in mid-eighteenth-century England, primarily in schools, it was not widely adopted until the first half of the nineteenth century. The first club was founded in Blackheath, south-east London, in 1849.
Pakistan's national sport is field hockey. It was India's national sport until August 2012, when the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports decided that India no longer has a national sport.
Ice hockey
Ice hockey is a sport in which two teams of skaters compete on a wide flat expanse of ice with a three-inch (76.2 mm) diameter vulcanised rubber disc known as a puck. Before high-level games, this puck is frequently frozen to reduce the amount of bouncing and friction on the ice. Ice hockey sticks are long L-shaped sticks made of wood, graphite, or composites with a bottom blade that may lay flat on the playing field when held upright and can legally curve in either direction for left- or right-handed players.
The game is popular in North America, Europe, and many other nations throughout the world to varying degrees. In Canada, Finland, Latvia, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, it is the most popular sport. Ice hockey is Latvia's national sport and Canada's official winter sport.
Ice hockey is played by people of all ages at various levels.
The International Ice Hockey Federation, which has 77 members, is the governing body of international play (IIHF).
Men's ice hockey has been a part of the Winter Olympics since 1924 and the Summer Olympics since 1920. In 1998, women's ice hockey was introduced to the Winter Olympics.
The National Hockey League (NHL) in North America is the most powerful professional ice hockey league in the world, attracting top ice hockey players from all over the world.
In many areas, the NHL rules differ slightly from those used in Olympic ice hockey. In the early 1900s, international ice hockey regulations were adapted from Canadian standards.
The modern sport arose in Canada as a result of European and indigenous influences. These included field hockey-style stick and ball sports, bandy, and other stick and ball games in which two teams push a ball or item back and forth using sticks.
Throughout the 19th century in England, they were playing outside on ice under the name "hockey," and much earlier under different titles. There are 24 reports of hockey-like games in the nineteenth century in Canada before 1875. (five of them using the name "hockey"). On March 3, 1875, six McGill University students participated in the first planned and recorded game of ice hockey, which was played in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Para ice hockey
Ice sledge hockey, sometimes known as "para ice hockey," is a type of ice hockey created for players with lower-body limitations. Players sit on double-bladed sledges and use two sticks, one with a blade and the other with little picks. The sticks are used to pass, stickhandle, and shoot the puck, as well as push the sledges. The regulations are quite similar to those used in IIHF ice hockey.
Canada is a renowned international pioneer in the creation of sledge hockey, and most of the sport's equipment, such as fibreglass-laminated sledge hockey sticks, aluminium shafts with hand-carved insert blades, and unique aluminium sledges with regulation skate blades, was created there initially.
Sledge hockey on inline skates
Inline sledge hockey is similar to inline puck hockey in that it is based on ice sledge hockey (essentially ice hockey is played off-ice using inline skates).
Unlike other team sports like wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby, there is no classification point system regulating who may play inline sledge hockey. Inline sledge hockey is being created so that anybody, with or without a disability, may compete at a world championship level based simply on aptitude and ability. [requires citation]
The Hull Stingrays and the Grimsby Redwings played the inaugural game of organised inline sledge hockey on December 19, 2009, in Bisley, England. Matt Lloyd is credited with developing inline sledge hockey, and the United Kingdom is often regarded as the game's development leader.
In Europe, inline hockey using a ball is more popular.
Inline hockey is a variation of roller hockey, often known as "rink hockey," however it evolved from ice hockey and uses a hockey puck or a ball. Both roller skating games use a wheeled skate, while inline hockey uses inline skates instead of roller skates or "quads."
In North America, the puck-based inline form is more popular than the ball-based variant, but in Europe, the ball-based variant is more popular.
Roller hockey (quad)
Roller hockey is an umbrella term for a roller sport that uses quad skates. It is also known as "quad hockey," "international-style ball hockey," "rink hockey," and "Hoquei em Patins." It existed before inline skates were invented. The sport is played in more than sixty nations and has a global fan base. At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, roller hockey was a demonstration sport.
Street hockey
This is a dry-land form of ice and roller hockey that is played year-round on a hard surface and is also known as road hockey (usually asphalt). A ball is frequently used instead of a puck, and no safety equipment is used.
Hockey is an amazing sport. And more people should be aware of it's existence and appreciate it .

What is your favorite video game? Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.

Which is better - Bermuda or Brazil I've been to Bermuda, and I loved it there. I'd rather go back there than go to Brazil.
Would you ever consider dating someone 10 years your senior? I'm married, I'd never date anyone, period. But hypothetically, at 29, someone 10 years older wouldn't really be too old.
What about 10 years younger? Definitely not.
How many times have you gone fishing? At least 20?

Ever been to a roller-skating rink?: Yes.
Do you like to ice skate? Sort of. I've never been very good at ice skating.
Have you ever watched your school's marching band preform? Yes.
Do you enjoy decorating for Christmas? Yes.
Ever seen snow? Countless times. I grew up in a fairly snowy area.
What about a shooting star? You mean a meteor? Yes.
What do you refer to your mother as? (Mom, momma, mommy) Mom.
Have you ever bought something off of Ebay? Just once, like 13 years ago haha. It was a Casio digital camera.
Do you have more than 2 online journals? No.
Do you have more than 3 siblings? List their ages. No, just one. He's 25.
Would you rather watch a baseball or hockey game? Baseball.
What is better: Walgreens or CVS I like them both about the same. I go to Walgreens much more since it's closer, and their pharmacy also carries the exact generic brand of birth control that I prefer. I've gotten my prescription filled at CVS a few times, but they always gave me Viorelle which I think gives me more frequent headaches, even though it's technically the same as Azurette.
Are Wal-Mart's prices really that low? I don't know. I almost never shop there.

1st Post
→→Introduce yourself with your picture. (Each Group Members should do your own.)
You need Topic Sentence, Support Sentences and Concluding Sentence.
———————————————–
Hello! This is Mayuko Ito, SA for QUT. Let me introduce myself in this first post!
At first, I am belonging in the roller hockey club. Roller hockey is a famous sport in foreign counties, especially for Spanish and Argentina. Before starting this sports, I used to play volleyball for 6 years in my junior high and high school.
Secondly, my hobby is to play many kinds of sports. In winter, I love to go to skiing and ice skating. In this winter vacation, I would like to try snowboarding.
If I could go to QUT, I would like to see animals such as kangaroos and koalas because I haven’t been to the southern hemisphere in my life. I once had a chance to go to Australia when I was a junior high school student, but I couldn’t because I lose the lottery. As a SA, I don’t have any opportunities to go there, but I would love to see some pictures from QUT students and feel the atmosphere of Australia. I'm really looking forward to see them.

Fear is a Flower
(this was shared somewhere else, but...after writing it, I don’t want it to disappear for good if I get too afraid of judgement and delete it there) I've been...afraid to admit this here. Because I'm so afraid to be judged...but my marriage is failing. I'm...planning on divorce. It took me so long to realize I didn't love my husband, and...even the people around me knew before I did. It's clear now, but I strung it out so long... And there's...another thing. It's terrible timing, but also good. But everyone would just assume things... This is a story, please don't judge me too harshly...I already judge myself plenty for it. I'm...glad I'm still alive, with how much I hate myself. I sure as hell don't want to be, when I remember that. And my husband knows, if any of you wonder...trust me, he knows. I haven't hidden anything... There's someone else. He helped me realize that I didn't love my husband. He's been a friend for a very, very long time. We've had our ups and downs, but I've never once been truly mad at him, nor him at me. He's always been the smile when all I could do is frown and want to die. I met him a few weeks ago, for the first time, in person. I've known him online for...a third of my life. Hell, my mom even knew of him, and she's been gone for a third of my life as well. I friend-zoned him back then, but he stuck around because he's a good guy, always there to tell me I'm worth it in a goofy way. Some guy breaks up with me after a week and tells me I'm immature and annoying? He's there to tell me I'm beautiful and intelligent and don't need someone like that. I fell for him after he persisted for a while. After my mom had passed...but he was good enough of a guy that I actually brought him up to my bed-bound mom (anorexia/alcoholism), and she liked him. During those years, I was on a dating site. I met him, and so many others, there. High school had destroyed my self-esteem, and I was finally medicated for my anxiety/depression. I needed the boost. Guy after guy, just because it helped me feel wanted. After they figured out who I was as a person, had a few lays...they ALL gave up on me. He's the only one who stuck around and kept talking to me. He was always sweet, and didn't seem to 'expect' things like some 'nice guys' do. He just genuinely treated me well. I started to like him after a while. I think the first time I wanted to meet him, he had a lot of family drama going on and couldn't deal with the stress. I was stressed too, and it just clashed, and he ended up making up an excuse not to visit. But a believable one; he lived a few hours away and his car was shit, his job was shit, and he couldn't really afford the trip. (he admits it was just him wimping out now) The 2nd time, to be entirely fair, he had gotten a concussion with a lot of vertigo. He played roller hockey at the time, so that was fair. He's had a total of 5 concussions in his life, I can't even remember which one that was. We kept talking for a while, though, until he hooked up with someone in real life. That hurt, and we just...stopped. I don't remember the specifics, it's been...like 7 years since then. I approached him again though when she was gone, and we rekindled. By then I was living with my evil grandma, aunt had bought me a car, life was going ok but the stress of my evil grandma wore on me. At one point I went to visit my dad, and tried to let him know I'd be happy to drive to see him...but he never answered the phone. Again, nowadays he admits he chickened out again. I was upset, but I got it. He had so much going on in his life, trying to deal with a full uni schedule and a shit job, he couldn't cope with the stress again. I got into a car accident at one point...I over-corrected. Gave a guy whiplash, bruised myself up, but nobody seriously hurt. Just totaled my car. I called my dad first...and he was 2nd. Grandparents third. When I got home that night...grandma SCREAMED at me, blaming me for the crash. I ended up on the floor, sobbing, so afraid...and then had to deal with the insurance claim call. He said he only had free time for 15 minutes at one point, but he could talk, so I paused my insurance talk (the lady on the phone was lovely) to talk to him for 5 minutes. He made me laugh and smile and...forget. I stopped crying. ...during that short window, my grandma, not believing I was actually doing the insurance thing, listened in on the call. She spent the next year reminding me of my call with him, what things he said, mocking him and using it to cite me as a liar. But I refused to trade that for the world. He ended up with two other girls in the next year, one didn't pan out rather quick, the other he stayed with for a while. We didn't talk as much during that time, but when I went to visit my dad again, I offered to visit him. He didn't reply (and admits that's because he was worried meeting me while he was with someone would have been a bad idea, which is true). I dealt. I lived in an apartment for a few years, and still spoke to him. Was introduced to a guy (who is now my husband) through an online game and a mutual friend. He lived in Australia, and he was nice and sweet and shy, and I liked it. He was different from the other guys I'd been cycling through still throughout all this time, just to make myself feel wanted. So I planned my move, and when I went back to my dad's one last time, I offered to see him again...and he didn't reply. That time, it's because he didn't want to screw up what me and the guy had. Which is fair, but...it just...saddened me. I wanted to meet this guy, who had kept me from committing suicide for SO MANY YEARS at that point, who had made me smile when life tried to ruin me... I got to Australia, built a life here, was...never truly physically happy with my partner, but I figured there was a reason. Weight, bad breath, the temperature, I kept thinking up possibilities. We tried fixing it. It... It never worked. I spoke to him on and off throughout my marriage, nothing more than friends for most of it. At one point in my marriage, though, I realized I needed to be physically happy, and...we decided on an open marriage. I should have realized that was kinda a sign of what was happening, but...I didn't. Skip more time, and...well, I started realizing I...couldn't say 'I love you' to my husband any more and feel like I meant it. I hated myself for it. I didn't know what was wrong with me. I kept talking with the other guy, and he was always supportive. He's never once, ever, tried to do ANYTHING to sway me towards him. He's just been good to me. He's actually actively tried to steer me away from him at times because he only wants what's best for me, even if I don't care and just want myself miserable half the time. I realized that the last person I ever wanted kids with was my first boyfriend. And, this guy...I wouldn't mind a kid with him. I thought he'd be a good father. I didn't even want a kid with my partner. When something scared me one night, during a panic attack, I thought of my final words, and they were to him. I realized how I felt. I told my partner these things, I'd been telling him stuff as time went on, but he...he hadn't done anything wrong. If anything, -I- was using -him-, and I told him this. He pleaded with me, every time, and won. Because the guilt ate me. Because I was the bad person, and he deserved to be happy, even at the cost of my own happiness. I didn't mention this, but...I didn't even enjoy the wedding. And so...I asked the guy one more time, would he let me meet him, and he said yes, without a doubt. It...wasn't affordable for him, for obvious reasons, but it was for me. So I planned it. And we were both happy. Then he stopped talking to me...for a month. I never had a more miserable month in my life. I just wanted to know what I had done wrong to deserve it. I begged. I pleaded. I left a voicemail with a long distance call, even. It...took me interviewing myself in a message to him, with how broken I was...to finally get a response. He'd started liking someone else there, a friend he'd known, and the guilt ate him inside. He thought disappearing, I would be happier just hating him... He...fell into depression. I didn't even know the extent of it, I just knew he wasn't happy. He utterly ruined things with the girl, who ended up not being a good match for him, but...no matter how much I said to him, prodded and pried for what the fuck was wrong, he never got mad at me. I was the first person he told what was going wrong in his life. (and now i know he tried to kill himself...and i can't imagine an angel in human form leaving this world like that) We...were still going to meet. Time got closer to my trip. I told my husband again. He guilted me with his life, saying he wanted to kill himself if I left. I gave in again. I left for the trip. Time ran so slow... ...I finally met him. He wasn't...the same as I remembered. But it'd been nearly 10 years, obviously he'd changed. He was so...warm, his personality. I was afraid to show him my true self, in person, because everyone rejects it. He just held me, no matter how long I wanted it to last. He kissed me, because I was too afraid to kiss him. We laid there for at least an hour after meeting, just looking at each other. I...we kept kissing. And, the thing is...I don't (normally) like kissing. I've enjoyed kissing 2 guys in my life, out of 20+, and even then, they were very minor. This was...different. I actually initiated the kisses. I finally understood why people enjoyed kissing... There were...other things, but, well, one thing does lead to another. He took me out to eat,the next day, and his car smelled like hockey, but I found I liked it. Brought me to the store to grab some stuff for the hotel (bread and such, cuz i was staying a week), but when we got back we just enjoyed each other's company. He let me watch a game that was going on for a bit while he did some work-related stuff, and we went back. The amount of time we just spent together, not doing anything but lying there, cuddling, no tv, no anything...it still wasn't enough. He brought me to a hockey game he was playing one evening after work, and despite how shit his team did, I loved every minute of it. I loved seeing him do something he loved. After the game, he was upset due to a frustrating teammate, but...he calmed down. We talked for a bit at one point, about that month he ignored me. All the times we never met. I saw the sadness creep into his eyes, and it hurt to see. But he answered every question, and hated himself for everything he'd ever done to hurt me. Every chance he didn't take. He was hurting enough that I could barely get him to smile again. But he slept with me that night, and I was happy. Waking up next to him...was perfect. He even brought me to an arcade. Guys...don't bring me on dates. Even my husband never has...but I just...it was awesome. We made fools of ourselves. Talked about silly stuff. Beat each other in Mario Kart, laughed, and it was amazing. When he finally had to bring me to my dad's, I didn't want to leave him. But he admitted to me, his entire opinion of everything had changed. That week had changed him. He said he could never forget how much I just enjoyed being with him, doing ANYTHING with him, whether chores or work-related or fun. He promised me it wouldn't be the last time we met. And...during my week with him, I'd...already told my husband it was done. Via messages. Because in person, he always guilted me until I gave in. I couldn't do that again. ...while at my dad's, though...my husband wrote me an essay. That ripped me to shreds. And...twice, that day, I wanted to kill myself. Both times, I turned to the guy, and he absolutely refused to let me talk about myself that way. To think that way. He called me, and told me how amazing I am, and that I just need to keep going on. That he couldn't be happy if I did something like... ...it takes so much out of a person to keep someone from killing themselves. He's saved me so many times, I can't count it on all of my digits. I don't understand how, or why, he puts up with me. I'm...back now. My husband and I will see a counselor soon, and I will slowly end it. He's coming to terms with the fact it's over. I'm trying to...better myself. To not be the person in the essay. And... ...and I can't believe I actually found someone I want kids with. I want to kiss. But everyone would assume I'm leaving my husband, for this guy...when it's just a fucking shit-ass coincidence. The guy who SET ME UP with my husband KNEW we weren't working out, LONG BEFORE I knew myself... But now, I realize...I'm going to be happier over there. With him. His smile. I could be in a rundown apartment, have a shit job, but I'd actually be happy. Love is so important to me. I write fiction about it, even. Hundreds of poems. And I forgot I deserve to be in love, too... And I am. I love him. He knows. He's not ready to say something like that, and that's okay. Because if it doesn't work out, he's still the friend he always has been. He's still a beautiful person, who tells me to do what makes ME happy, screw everyone else. I... Is it okay for me to be happy that I finally found my happy ending? That it...hurts someone that doesn't deserve it, for me to get there? Because even if that week hadn't worked...I'd still be getting a divorce. I'd just...move somewhere different. It's...all so fucked up. I'm so afraid.
