Mannnnn I'm feeling a little sappy. I want to dote on a robot. Make sure the room they use to charge is clean and dust free, checking their charging cord often to make sure it isn't damaged.
Offering to clean them, gently wiping them down with alcohol wipes. Making sure that my normally clumsy hands are still as I clean their insides. Maybe we're talking as I'm doing so, but they're doing most of the talking so I can focus.
Reminding them to occasionally run scans to see if their programs and circuitry are working properly. Complimenting them on everything, making sure they feel good about themselves. Cherishing the time I get to spend with them.

I love a lot about The Wild Robot, but one of my favorite scenes is definitely when Roz learns the language of the animals and the way they make it clear that she's speaking in their language. For the scene itself, it's just... everything. The way the text bubbles pop up, letters slowly coming into place over days and days as patterns emerge, along with the focus on Roz, the framing just so beautiful (But that's not surprising for this movie lol).
BUT THEN we get the subtle touch of Fink asking "What're they saying?" whenever another robot talks, because of course they don't speak animal!! I feel like so many pieces of media would just be like "No, just make them understand each other," but I love the attention to detail, and the knowledge that Roz has fully adapted this language. She truly is a part of her forest.
Gosh, what a beautiful movie.

FNAF SPOILERS! SCROLL! TALKING ABOUT THE SPRINGLOCK SCENE!
i’ve seen so many people discussing the springlock scene in both negative and positive ways and i think it brings up really cool points about how matthew played that scene and balanced fan expectations with his own characterisation.
i think the discussions around this movie have rlly exposed the disconnect between fanon and canon in fnaf, especially talking abt the core games in isolation, bc frankly in the game universe (ignoring the books) we get Very Little characterisation for William other than the obvious, but Matthew managed to add so much in the way he talks and his body language.
in the reveal scene, we see afton at arguably his peak. in his first scene, he comes off as somewhat demeaning and judgemental until he recognises mike’s name, at which point he seems to have this nervous energy, rushing to cover it up but stumbling slightly, his reaction to the tables being turned even slightly is massive.
this is a man who committed multiple mrdrs in essentially broad daylight, hid the bodies in the most obvious place, and still got away with it, and then kept the crime scene as a trophy of his actions, and an ongoing prison sentence for his victims. he has been in complete control for decades, and is confident that he can deal with any kind of threat quickly. his confidence in his reveal is palpable
it changes when vanessa shoots him. the whole parallel with vanessa and the animatronics is hugely interesting too- how william refers to the animatronics almost endearingly as “kids” when he wants them to obey, how both vanny and the animatronics have an unearned loyalty to him, almost a pseudo-adoption through what he did to them, taking them from their parents and keeping them under his thumb, forever stuck as naive, forgiving, obedient children. vanessa breaking from that control shakes him, but the mask slips back into place almost immediately.
then, he’s outsmarted by the brother of one of his victims, and the child he planned to end next. his pseudo-children turn on him and he can no longer manipulate his appearance or shed his skin to escape. he explodes on them, and his language is incredibly telling that he is being dishonest.
he calls them small, trying to belittle them into submission, even though they are ten feet tall metal animatronics powered by rage. he is grasping at straws to regain control, and failing miserably.
finally, the springlocks go off. the locks in the movie look more like a ribcage, so the first two likely puncture his lungs. they’re slow, and painful, but he doesn’t scream or beg or sob. he grunts and groans, gritting his teeth and only letting out sounds of pain that sound almost involuntary. there is no way in hell he would visibly let himself show weakness or pain in front of these creatures that he believes he has control over. he isn’t brought to his knees until there are eight metal spikes embedded in his abdomen. he doesn’t let the mask fall for even a second, until he literally PUTS THE ACTUAL MASK ON and finally collapses. even then, he’s fighting for consciousness, twitching and writhing with no control over his body. william afton thrives on control, and his soul will not rest until he gets it back.
it’s why he keeps the pizzeria- he always comes back. he can’t help but return to the scene of the crime, putting on his old costume, continuing his killings. he revels in being a constant threat on the horizon. and now, he knows he is going to die, and he knows the suit will bring him back, and noone will be able to get rid of him then. so he puts the mask back on, and waits.
in terms of the sfx- they’re pretty accurate. with stab wounds, you need to leave the knife in the wound as long as possible for best chance of survival, as it stops the blood from escaping. in terms of the springlocks, there wouldn’t be copious amounts of blood as the locks are keeping the wounds filled- which is good because it means a slower, more painful death.

You guys seemed to like my last robot ramble so here's another one!
I think a robot's sense of self is heavily tied to their machinery, to how they work. And I think that's because a lot of robots tend to follow a moreso "logic" based thought process. I think a robot would ask the question "why" a lot, not out of malice, but because they're curious if there's a logical reason a human is doing something.
I think that's what would make them fall for a human, honestly.
A human who doesn't get fed up with their questions, who maybe even admits that they don't know. "It's just how I've always done this, and I think it's fun to do it this way." A human who shows them how to accept that sometimes, there is no logical answer for a thing.
And the reason they even fell for them in the first place is because they gave them a safe enough place to ask "why". And I imagine the human would ask things too. And maybe the robot would have found things they do, that go outside their programming, that they don't have a reason for.
"Because I want to."
There's more below the cut, although it isn't NSFW, it may read as such! Please be cautious, I'm also talking about robots looking down on humans :P
I also like the idea of robots that look down on humans, yet being hypocritical though. Robots are built for "efficiency", while humans are built for "hedonism". A robot scoffing at a human for enjoying their calorie inefficient food, pushing down the enjoyment they're feeling at being "better". A robot getting annoyed that a human is doing something slightly differently that they would, wasting a bit of time so that it's "satisfying" to them, while ignoring the happiness they feel when they save miliseconds on a task.
I like the idea of a robot looking down on a human, because they think they're just "hedonistic", only to be forced to grapple with the idea that they're similar. Some robots would probably blame their programming, their circuits. Maybe lie and say that they don't take pleasure in those things. Maybe some would accept it, live with the hypocrisy.
I wonder how a robot would react if it could experience stuff the way a human could? It would probably blow its mind, the warmth from holding a hand. The joy in tasting delicious food. A cozy night in front of a fire. I wonder how it would feel to go back to being normal afterwards. I personally think the majority would enjoy being normal because the experience sounds overwhelming. But I bet they'd be happy to have the experience to look back on.

More about the wild robot bc I can't get it out of my head but I just appreciate how it explores love in different ways - the unconditional love of a mother, the love forged between friends, the tense, complicated love when it's revealed that things are not what you thought they were
When Roz lets Brightbill go for the first time we also get to see the irony of love, how although a big part of that maternal love is keeping them close, nurturing them, building them up... we see that love is, also letting go. Despite that desire to keep them close, to keep on protecting them, because letting go means you love them enough to know they need to grow and be their own person, that you've done your best, and now it's time to love them by letting go no matter how hard, no matter how much you may miss them
Because even though it's hard, the best part of the love that lets go, is the experience of the love that comes back

Optimus Prime's Face Plate
I have had a think. I used my braincell.
Probably been said before maybe- headcanon
-Optimus Prime's face plate, as time goes on he wears it more and more. It started only putting it on during fights, then during war talk, and then it was all the time. Only letting it slide down when he's with Bee or Elita-One (And maybe some of the miners)
-In the movie he puts it down when he says "and you betrayed me." to Megatron. Because it's personal- it's Orion Pax shining trough. So when the plate is up he's Optimus Prime and when it's down he's Orion pax- simbolicaly, symbalitacly, simbolita... simbol, symbol. symbolitacly (you know what I mean)
-He wears it more and more because Orion Pax isn't needed. His people don't need a nerdy, playful, curious librarian wannabe. They need a Prime. A warrior.
-When he does put it down, around those he trust, it's him allowing himself to be vulnerable because they know what's behind that face plate. So he's not ever happy Orion. He's sad Orion. The bot that's sad they're at war. That D-16 is gone. That doubts himself.
-I think Bee and Elita-One take turns making sure he gets time without his mask. Just to remind him that being a leader is not just to be a war machine. Life work balance is important.
-As time goes on he manages to find a balance and he can smile even when the plate is up. And maybe he becomes more like G1 Optimus and can play basket ball.
-In the end he does kinda forget he can put the plate down. But now he's balanced and his friends (family) know how to read him even if they can't see his whole face.
I'm on a sugar rush and this is what came of it.
