A little game of 'why', because I can't stop thinking about it.

• Why make John a Sugden if he isn't going to talk about them, ask about them or spend time with them (Victoria and Harry)? Not even on Christmas!

• Why make John Robert's brother if that isn't even going to factor into Aaron's decision to get involved with him? If it was only for 30 seconds of drama, what was the point?

• Why go to the effort of scouring old Robron footage for locations and story plot points if Aaron isn't even noticing the similarities? Why was that important to them? Aaron doesn't seem to think a lay- by, a barn, the woods (or even Christmas at the Mill) relates to his past... but they know the viewers remember everything!

• Why leave Seb basically orphaned with a most likely elderly aunt in Bristol, when a break-up bewteen Ross and Rebecca was already written in. Ross isn't grieving her, he was hitting on Charity and got with Steph almost right away. He isn't even 'angry Ross' anymore, he's too busy thinking about his true love Donna's child to be thinking about Seb!

• Why did they think it was a good idea to put Aaron with a guy that is so similar to him with his moodiness and general disposition? It makes it impossible to picture them having any moments of fun or romance... ever.

• And finally, why aren't the people in charge telling the actor that his acting choices are coming across as sinister to the majority on social media, if he's meant to come across entirely different?!

Anyone have any good answers?

Robert Jacob Sugden is literally the king of emmerdale & he hasn't been on it for 5 years. When he left the first time (2005) he wasn't really mentioned much. He returned in 2009 for Jack's funeral then left. He then returned with a new face in 2014 & boy did he make an impression. Sadly he left in 2019. But let's look at what has happened since he left.

Aaron Dingle - former husband gets a new bf in Bland Ben, he dies, Aaron leaves then returns permanently 2023. Hooks up with Robert's so called half brother & now they are in love.

John Sugden - Arrives 2024 to apparently revive the sugdens but literally has no scenes with Victoria. He was just bought in to give Aaron a new bf. Why make him a sugden? Previous male Sugdens are interesting & have a personality this cheap knock off is bland & boring.

Ross Barton - returns 2024 happened to leave in 2018 with Rebecca & Seb (Robert's son). Tells Victoria & Aaron that Rebecca is dead & Seb is living with an aunt of hers.

Joe Tate - returns 2024 after 6 years away. He happens to be named after Robert's uncle Joe Sugden & his mother Rachel had an affair with Robert's dad Jack Sugden. Old history has always been Tates v Sugdens & Tates v Dingles.

Basically what I am trying to say is all these returning & new characters have one character in common and that is the mighty Robert Jacob Sugden. His name has been mentioned more over the last 5 years than it was when he left in 2005 & used to sell storylines to try & make them interesting. No doubt Joe Tate will mention him now he is back. All I can say is if this is all leading to Robert's return then we'll bloody played Emmerdale but if is all for nothing & just leading to Tates V Dingles yet again then I definitely won't be back. I will only watch again properly if Robert returns & surely this has to happen. It has to be Ryan playing him because their is no one else who can do it as he made such an impact when he was Robert.

Really hating the whole John Sugden thing emmerdale has going right now so this is me joining the theory that he’s not ‘John Sugden’ at all and that he’s actually someone Robert knew in prison who had a vendetta against him and now he’s out has gone after Aaron and Vic in some form of revenge.

Robert had photos of his family in his prison cell. John could have seen these and knew what Aaron and Vic looked like so knew who he was looking for. Aaron’s profile pic on the dating app they met on was of himself so John knew when he’d found him, same when he saw Vic at the funeral (even though that would have been by chance)

From a soap’s perspective it’s obviously not that hard to find info about someone in prison so John could have easily found out more about Robert from other inmates or he could have been Robert’s cell mate himself and they talked

The whole thing John said about not being jealous of Robert because he’s stuck in prison whilst he isn’t and has Aaron and Vic was weirdly suss and possessive

John was way too familiar with how to cover up a crime scene and dispose of a body and was also too calm

John was not happy to be referred to as a police informant

Hardly any Sugden interaction or talk besides about Robert. John also seems kind of angry at Robert mentions

Aaron was originally suspicious of John and thought he had an agenda

Has anyone actually questioned why John’s last name Sugden when he had nothing to do with Jack and Jack didn’t even know he existed???

There’s been way too many Robert mentions for me to just sit back and think he holds no relevance to this story besides just being the brother of temu Sugden. It also feels dumb to introduce a new Sugden and yet barely acknowledge that he’s part of a legacy family. His name literally only matters to cause a little bit of conflict with Aaron. At the moment it’s unnecessary.

Will this be depressing for Aaron because the guy he (supposedly 🙄) loves only came after him because of a vendetta against his ex-husband? Yes. Would it be way more interesting than whatever the hell John is right now? Also yes. Am I delusional and think this could pave the way for a Robert return? Again yes.

Just give John an actual character or bin him!!

Thought I would list some of the things (clues) the show has revealed about John so far, as he is supposed to have plenty of secrets...

Quotes are not verbatim.

• He was born in 1988, making him two years younger than Robert and Andy and six years older than Victoria. (The actor however was born in 1982.)

• He likes the saying 'Never forgive, never forget' as revealed in his very first episode

• 'Barbara and I go way back' (quote from Eric about John's mum with a bit of innuendo?)

• He grew up locally, and is a capable farmhand

• He always assumed he had siblings 'out there', but just didn't care (again, he grew up locally and was right between Robert/Andy and Vic in age, his mum used to be a teacher in Hotten)

• He did mention that he thinks he might have heard of Robert, specifically

• He claims to not be interested in the Sugden family, and was seemingly especially un-interested in Sarah, as her dad was adopted, even though he did say sorry to her later

• But he did look intently (when Vic wasn't there) at the Sugden family photo, which had Jack, Sarah and all three kids in it

• He had a stepdad growing up, who apparently did care about him, so no reason to 'feel sorry for him'

• Barbara Ann's (his mum) married name looks like it started with a C or a G, like Conne(o)r, Chase, Cro(a)ft, Grant or Gray?

• He said his mum wrote Jack a letter about him once when he was young, but Jack never replied

• Called Robert some random/stranger 'that I happen to share dna with'

• Kept army tags that say 'Aidan Moore' in a box he doesn't want people to see

• 'I know more than you think' (to Aaron when he denied John knowing anything about him or something to that effect)

• Wears a St. Christopher necklace

• According to an interview with Oliver, John has spent 12 years in the army, It's unclear which 12 years

• Having been in the village for six month, he has asked zero questions about anything Sugden related

• He was a medic in the army

• He was the last person to see Nate before he supposedly left the village

• He looked like he might have had something in his van after the fire that he didn't want anyone to see

• Refused to be checked at the hospital, even though he was coughing his lungs up after the fire

• Has two medals, which appear to be the Operational Service Medal For Afghanistan and the Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (2022), but there is apparently supposed to be a third one in this set?

• Aidan Moore was not only his best friend, as he lied to Victoria, but a man he loved and was secretly involved with. John apparently couldn't save him in Afghanistan...

• In an interview Mike P (Ross) did around the time they filmed the aftermath of Christmas, he said John has a 'sinister military background', whatever that means...

• He's not the brightest, as he apparently failed to realize that Aaron and the man he married twice shared a deep connection and, you know, a life 🤷‍♀️

• Seemed very hateful about Robert, saying he had only himself to blame for 'losing his temper' and now can't be in Vic or Aaron's life - but John can

• Was however happy to 'hold Aaron's jacket' if he felt like beating up Tom King

• He very much did not like being called an 'informant' by the PC, even though he did call the police and tell them about the illegal fight in Moira's barn

• He likes telling other people to be honest and thruthful, but has yet to tell Aaron he was the one who called the police that day

• Said four walls and a roof are like a 'prison' to him, and said about Aidan in Afghanistan; 'he only wanted to serve his time'

• He always goes camping in December on Aidan's birthday

• Seemed rather desperate for Aaron to say 'I love you' in the woods after making a show of throwing his dead ex's army tags in the woods... (Army tags that in reality would go to next of kin I believe?)

• Knows how to clean up a murder scene and dispose of a body, and claims that's what love looks like...
