Have you got any theories on the “big twists to come” that the soap reporters have teased on X? I’ve tried thinking how many more twists can there be but I’ve considered maybe one of the following

-john’s a fake

-Andy somehow pops up

-Aaron finds out John’s got that video to keep Robert in line, so Aaron tells Robert about Anthony. (While he won’t have proof over who hid the body, it might spur Robert on to find out more. Perhaps John will be framed for the actual murder of Anthony if they find out where he put the body)

-Aaron starts digging behind the scenes, and it will come out he’s had suspicions for a while, but he’s been investigating quietly. (I’d love for it later on for John to believe Aaron still hates Robert, then it’s revealed Robron have actually been working together for a while and the hostility between them has been an act for ages. 100% don’t think that will happen, but it would be epic)

-John tries to get Robert imprisoned with the video, but Aaron lies and tells the police he saw it all and tells them it was self defence. Or Aaron discovers the video and gets rid of it. I think Aaron showing loyalty to Robert would send John spiralling and that’s when he could get discovered

Ah, it’s the twists and curves time once again. Since Johnboy’s actual expiration date is still unknown, it’s time to stretch things out until the true exit plot begins.

I like all your ideas (many I’ve thought of myself) and it depends if there is enough time to make some of these come to fruition properly. And also we know there is gonna be a break happening for their holidays so we need to also consider what would lead to them disappearing for a time. For me the question is also what this life-changing storyline is for Aaron and Mackenzie and who else is involved in it (it’s also probably when we get Mackenzie running in the woods from the flash forward). Is this as a result of a twist or causes the twist.

Aaron needs to also become plot smart sooner rather than later so maybe he comes upon the cam footage on the laptop but also other interesting footage that was saved that shocks the h*** out of him realizing his normal and boring hubby isn’t that at all and there may be truth to what Robert was saying all along about him. Hopefully this leads to Robert being brought in the know as you mentioned about Anthony in that circle and they all plot to get the better of Johnboy.

Andy (aka Brian Moore) is a wildcard and unless he’s kept in touch with someone in the village about Sarah or other goings on in the village, that would be a total surprise twist but I can only see him returning briefly maybe for Sarah and to bring down his new ‘brother.’

They could also go the route of Robert going on meds to help with his depression/ptsd/night terrors and his ‘brother’ swaps them out to make him so erratic to the point of being sectioned and it’s Aaron that would figure out what’s been happening and it’s the start of Johnboy’s upcoming downfall.

We already think the new bloke coming in September is connected to Robert and his prison time. If it does turn out to be the case, it’s another curve that could be slotted into everything especially if that listening device is still there and Johnboy uses the info to his advantage (again).

Basically there are a lot of potential directions the twists can take which can either enrich what is going on or make it go in the other direction (like in hell year, many of which I could’ve done without thank you very much).

if Danny or Ryan decide to leave in the future, would you want them to go together? So either a mutual agreement that they both go, or one gets written out as a result of the other’s decision?

They’re not even back on yet and I’m already thinking I wouldn’t want yet another split!

I think it is safe to say they are both in it for the long haul now. Danny is a lifer on the show so unless a future producer decides to cut the character (which would get massive backlash)… As for Ryan, as long as he is given good material (such as now) and enough breaks and holidays not to burn him out, don’t see him going anywhere either for the foreseeable. Both now have families to support and a steady acting gig like ED is a positive for the both of them.

The fact that Robert Jacob Sugden is also one of the two longest legacy characters on the show currently (along with Pollard) should keep the character safe as well (the show may have killed way too many Sugdens/Merricks off in the past but I hope they NOW have respect for those that are still living both on the show and off).

Robert hasn’t made an effort to interfere in their marriage and yet Johnboy is still that threatened by his existence…

I think John is just threatened by Robert in general. He was threatened by him when he was in prison when he couldn’t even go near Aaron. If Robert was dead, I bet John would still feel threatened because deep down, he knows Aaron feels like no one can ever compare to him.

From what I have gather (having started watching again when Robert stepped back into the show with them trainers), Johnboy hasn’t been a fan of Robert from the very beginning and with him now in the village, the hostility has grown. Maybe it’s down to Jack (that is, if he is a Sugden, I need DNA proof on that period) or something else we aren’t aware of.

As for Aaron, a live Robert is better than a dead one where Johnboy would be concerned, at least in my perspective. He can gaslight Robert, make him look even more unstable all he likes but that keeps Aaron attached to him (for Aaron, he’s the buffer he’s so determined not to jump over to be with Robert). A dead Robert means reflection by Aaron what could have been and that marriage would be deader than dead.

Don’t suppose you know how far ahead the soap reporters get to see the episodes?

Sorry, don’t know the answer to this. We do know they film several weeks in advance and they would need sufficient time to edit the episode before before released on streaming / on air.

Anyone have an idea on this?

Sorry if this sounds petty, but there is no part of me that wants Robert to say anything in line with "you have nothing to be sorry for" or "I don't blame you" or "you couldn't have known" when the truth is finally out.

He doesn't need to be the bigger person here, imo. He definitely doesn't need to cower because he's "the boy who cried wolf", because that's not true.

He went to prison as their husband, brother, co-worker, friend and neighbour, not some kind of evil enemy of the village.

And he came back the same person, minus the husband part, and that wasn't because of a scheme or him being selfish or viscious.

I don't care how many weddings he crashed or how much weed he stole. They owe him sincere apologies.

The man has had two redemption arcs and a long, hellish stint in prison, yet people are still on about karma and paying for the way he's lived his life? I'm sorry, but show me another character that has ever needed to "pay" this much...

Chances of robron winning best partnership at the inside soap awards?

I think it depends on the popularity of the other partnerships nominated (other than the Eastenders pairs listed, not familiar with any of the others as ED is the only UK soap I watch currently). The Robron fanbase is once again very strong thanks to Ryan’s return but… they need more scenes together to showcase why they were added to the Best Partnership category this quickly/early on with only a few episodes scattered across two months.

Yes, that lightning in the bottle phenomenal chemistry is still clearly there both on and off screen (their Dryan reunited video has now gotten over 303K hits!). Whatever happens in the Monday episode hopefully will be the start of them FINALLY interacting more regularly and that will definitely help. Them winning it this year? 🤷‍♀️

I wonder why John was so determined to get Robert to say he’ll stay away from Aaron. They’ve barely interacted since he returned. I know that will play into the plot later to keep Robert in line when he inevitably gets close to Aaron, but would have made more sense to have Aaron and Robert speaking before he made the demand

i do wonder if Johnboy is seeing maybe a subtle shift in Aaron over the last couple of weeks that coincides with when Robert came back to the village. Since Aaron has been off screen so much we don’t know the nuances that exist between the two on their own (that control or whatever is actually going on in that relationship). What we do see is Aaron slight/put down Robert especially harder when Johnboy is there with him to show he backs his opinion fully.

The fact that they have barely, if at all, interacted over the last two months and Robert hasn’t made an effort to interfere in their marriage and yet Johnboy is still that threatened by his existence… there’s something more going on we may not be privy to. With him also seemingly changing tactics this coming week is still puzzling. Is he going to continue with the gaslighting/poking at Robert’s poor mental health state while coming off as the concerned ‘brother’ in the process to the point he’ll try to get him sectioned? Is he trying to force a situation where he finds them together, accuses Robert of not keeping his swear to stay away from Aaron (he technically didn’t say the words) and tries to get him sent back to prison? Is the recording also to keep Aaron in tow (he already has his involvement in Anthony’s demise as leverage)? There’s so many questions at this point.

We might be headed into a brief status quo on that front until the build up to Johnboy’s exit begins (hopefully no later than SSW October).
