Man in a Suitcase: Web with Four Spiders (1.23, ITC, 1968)
"Why me? With your name all you have to do is pick up your telephone, you'd be up to your neck in nice, keen, young Harvard-trained security boys. Probably drum and bugle corps to boot."
"Yes, and those photographs would be in the FBI dossier."
"Or a private one. I could make copies. See what they'd buy me."
"Oh no, you've already answered that. My name is Norbert; you are a discredited American agent. No one will accept your word against mine."
"Good. But I'm expensive. I call it my self-respect bonus."

Me writing a fic planner for my Supernatural fic series/AU and it slowly turning into a "try and keep as many of the characters you like and/or need for the plot to get where you want it to without it being too OOC and/or nonsensical all while still keeping your current ongoing plot relevant and have it make sense" challenge
Because ISTG people are dying 𝘸𝘢𝘺 too often in this show. I had to get creative with Sam's reactions and power limitations just to keep Crowley alive during that one scene Dean tried to kill him when they both first met him.
I had to give Sam a fucking aftershock from Dick Roman exploding so that he won't kill Crowley right then and there.
I know I'll need to find a way to keep Rowena and Charlie alive at some point in the future because they'll be killed off later on in the show and I can't have that.
I'll have to somehow keep Death alive (haha) too because I love him too much to let him go.
The only characters I plan on keeping dead so far are Bobby, Meg, John and everyone else who died in earlier seasons (besides maybe Jessica, but that's just because she's not as close to Sam in this AU)
Ellen and Jo will still be alive, though, since I'm not leaving the boys without a support system. Downside is that the two of them will be experiencing the death of their husband/father (respectively) all over again.
I'm keeping Balthazar alive too because I 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 Castiel to still have some sort of loyal subordinate/connection to Heaven.
At least Dean doesn't kill anyone (important), not yet at least (I just finished season 7) hopefully it stays that way because that man is pretty much the only one I don't have to keep on monitoring 24/7. He's honestly the most chill person in my fic when it comes to killing off plot devices, which is hilarious because I plan on making him a sadistic half demon that's kind of like the Antichrist once he gets the Mark of Cain (which was surprisingly the easiest plot twist I had to write, thanks to how I saw his demon self has been written, I swear he's the only one not killing everyone else around him just because).
I'm currently holding on by a thread of "Sam believing he's impure and therefore doesn't use his powers often" logic while also applying a good amount of "Sam uses his power in every single scenario in which he thinks Dean might be in danger" logic. It's a very stressful road and I swear to Chuck, if I didn't have an ending in mind, everyone would've been dead except for the (good) humans, and Sam would have been the culprit, maybe Castiel too, and Dean would've been surprisingly innocent (I know, it baffles me too).
I just realized, as I was writing this that maybe I just need Crowley to chill, but I can't write that because that would be character assassination of the highest degree (Crowley is a sassy drama queen and I'd rather die than take that away from him)

I Want to Live!
With its near-documentary depiction of the workings of the gas chamber and clear anti-capital punishment stance, Robert Wise’s I WANT TO LIVE! (1958, TCM) was quite the shocker in its time. Even knowing the film’s outcome, the final act dealing with the appeals and denials in the case of convicted killer Barbara Graham (Susan Hayward) are almost unbearably suspenseful. Yet from a contemporary view the picture also has a strong sentimental strain simply in the way the filmmakers bend over backwards to make Graham appear innocent, the victim of yellow journalism, lying confederates and her own bad choices. There’s also an interesting feminist angle in that the toughness the press exploits to tar her image during the trial is later explained as the product of her rough childhood. Strength in a woman is an aberration, yet it’s one of Hayward’s most appealing characteristics. My favorite moments are the times she sasses people who think they’re trying to help her.
The film starts with Hayward as a part-time prostitute and full-time party girl who hangs with some shady characters, including two who ask for an alibi that leads to her doing time for perjury. After her ,marriage to a drug addict goes bad, she’s back with her criminal cohorts, which leads to her being arrested with them for the murder of an elderly woman. With her criminal record and an ill-advised attempt to buy an alibi, her conviction is a given, as is the death penalty. That starts a harrowing chain of events as Hayward’s lawyer (Joe De Santis), a sympathetic psychiatrist (Theodore Bikel) and the reporter (Simon Oakland) who had originally helped smear her fight to get her conviction overturned.
The film’s opening feels somewhat choppy and contrived. When Hayward informs her criminal colleagues she’s going straight and getting married, one is building a house of cards that he knocks down as soon as she leaves. Wise then cuts to a fierce argument between Hayward and her husband (Wesley Lau) as their baby screams non-stop. In these scenes, Hayward seems to be rehashing the “tough broad with a heart of gold” persona she had developed in movies like DEADLINE AT DAWN (1946) and THE LUSTY MEN (1952). At one point she even takes the fall for a married man who’d paid her for sex just because she likes a picture of his family. Once she’s charged with murder, however, the film takes flight. Where Hayward had earlier been playing movie star realism (her hair gets slightly disheveled, but she always has perfect makeup), she starts digging deep and offers a fiercely committed portrait of a desperate woman. And it’s not all snarling. When a friend from her party-girl days comes to visit and offer support, the scene is a wonder of subtle reactions to the only person showing her kindness at that point. The supporting actors have the wisdom to play for subtlety without making Hayward look out of place, and Oakland is particularly fine. Johnny Mandel wrote the jazz score, making generous use of Gerry Mulligan’s combo. If you’re good you’ll spot small roles played by John Marley, Raymond Bailey, Dabbs Greer, Stafford Repp, Gavin MacLeod, Peter Breck, Brett Halsey, Hope Summers and Jack Weston.

just watched today's hour long ep and im leaving my thoughts below:
putting aside the fact that the current writers can be complete nonsensical idiots most of the time, there is something pretty suspicious about this whole rebecca plot twist.
first, why kill her if ross says they had split up for a while before she died? if this twist was only to serve ross's comeback story, then they had no need to kill rebecca at all. ross said today that after they split, rebecca had already moved to bristol with seb to stay with her aunt so that would have been that. ross would still have been stupid enough to get into illegal fighting and other criminal activities on his own without the added grief of her death.
second, people are panicking because robert apparently signed the papers so seb could stay with this supposed aunt of rebecca. im sorry, but what else did you expect robert to do? since the moment he went to prison, robert made it a priority to sever himself from aaron. he handed himself in so aaron could have a life of his own, and seb a dad he could one day be proud of, instead of a father on the run for the rest of his life. so i don't believe robert would EVER put seb on aaron if he could avoid it. can you imagine, robert thinking aaron has settled somewhere with a guy living a life of his own just how robert wished, only for robert to saddle him with his kid? yes, for us fans, that wouldn't be selfish because we know aaron would be great with seb, however, the prospect brings up so many questions to me personally, like does robert even know liv died? does he know aaron went to live in italy for a time? does he know aaron came back? we can't even trust victoria to have told robert anything because according to ross victoria hasn't been in contact with robert recently! she hasn't even been in contact with bex and seb, for years! even aaron said they didn't get in touch because they thought rebecca, ross and seb were "happy". which brings me to my third point.
according to today's episode, rebecca died around 3 months ago. who also showed up just around that time? john sugden. im not trying to build a conspiracy theory here—could john's army medic past allow him to perform surgeries in liverpool?? lmao im kidding—what i mean is (and correct me if im wrong), this seems like the time the "new stories" overseen by iain macleod started kicking in. which means they had to cover plot holes from past stories in the least limiting way possible, especially considering the show wouldn't want to spoil robert's return (if ryan does come back) or the fact he isn't coming back at all.
so we don't know if rebecca died before or after victoria called robert to tell him about john like she said she would. we don't know if it was robert who decided not to mention bex's death to vic, or if vic even spoke to robert at all after meeting john.
what im more and more certain of, though, is that seb will play a big part in the story going forward. his predicament as an orphan could:
give vic a plot - because why didn't her brother trust her with his son? could it be because robert thought she already had her hands full with her own kid? or did he think seb would be happier and more comfortable with people he already knew and was familiar with? now that vic's dismal plot with jacob is done, i can see her trying to get some offscreen visiting rights with the bristol auntie, or, in the best case scenario, onscreen seb visits.
give aaron a plot - unfortunately another one that involves john, because being a father is something that aaron always wanted and, depending on who writes this sl, it could have him opening up to john about his and robert's surrogacy attempts. i don't mind it at all, because if robert comes back it will be much juicier if aaron and john are as settled as possible (good luck with that nonexistent chemistry lol), yet i refuse to watch those two bring up seb. period.
an emergency exit to ross - michael parr's interviews have been vague at best. he has talked about doing a short stint and not knowing what the future holds for his character, so if seb doesn't return in the foreseeable, he could well be the reason ross goes away again.
speed up robert's release - yes, robert signed the papers for seb to stay with his aunt in bristol, but i don't doubt he has thought about attempting a new appeal so he could be with his son. legal matters take time and with the lee/luke plot loophole from a few years back, it would only be a case of waiting for ryan to be available.
this seems to be the gist of it to me so far. but i have to mention the one thing that stood out to me today and which i really enjoyed was how calm aaron was through everything except the one moment ross threw the 'slept with his brother' comment in his face. i need 10 more of those, ross. keep them coming!

Hi, I hope you don't mind the question, but do you have a list of (historical) romance novels you recommend somewhere? I'm pretty new to the genre and would like some recs to start off with.
Thank you!
Of course I dont mind! I dont have a list here (but if you check the book recs tag or reading romance im sure youd find books ive read or books friends have recommeded) so I'll just post a few here.
Fair warning! I am horrible of keeping track of the books I've read so my recs will be a just a bunch of random books I like. @mermaidsirennikita and @triviareads are far more organized in their book recs than I am so you can always check their pages.
Please let me know if you'd like specific tropes!! Or more importantly if you have any TWs!
The Chief (the entire Highland Guard series actually) by Monica McCarthy. Tor MacLeod is a highland laird very much focused on helping Robert the Bruce with his secret plan to free Scotland from English Rule but his sudden marriage to sweet Tina is distracting him. They're forced to marry after she's found in his bed (her dad blackmailed her into getting herself ruined instead of her sister). The entire series is honestly a banger. It marries actual history with romance in a very clever way. The Chief is 1 of 12 so you have a lot of different tropes and stories to choose from if this one isnt for you!
Convergence of Desire by Felicity Niven - A TRULY WONDERFUL book with great disability rep. Harry (Harriet) is probably the biggest STEM heroine Ive read in HR (I know you love those based on your writing) and is on the spectrum. On paper Thomas is a rake that cannot fathom committing to only one woman but he needs to marry for money fast and she just wants to solve Fermat's Last Theorem. They enter a marriage of convenience and this book is just plain lovely. The very few books that have made me cry. Its emotional and the relationship that builds between these two is just🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽
The Winter King and The Sea King by CL Wilson. CL Wilson is an amazing writing imo. I haven't read romantasy since high school and these books were the first ive read and enjoyed after such a long time. The first book is a marriage of convenience/ forced marriage situation. Her brother killed his brother and fiance?? I dont remember the specifics. But he wants a bride as payment and Thasin (our herione) father is an ass and decided TW there is dubcon. The first sex scene is the wedding night and there are aphrodiacs involved. Second one Dilys is a merman. Thats always fun. Super feminist too. Dont remember the exact details but did have a great time reading this one too.
The Duke Gets Even by Johanna Shupe. Shupe is a great writer and from the very few books I've read of her, The Duke Gets Even is probably my favorite.
Anything by Lorraine Heath but the most recent book I remember reading is The Duchess Hunt where the hero appoints his secretary (who secretly loves him) to find his a wife. Preferably one who is as organized, wonderful, and knows him as much as she does LOL. Lorraine one of the best writers in the genre and they always hit emotionally. You won’t go wrong with anything by her.
Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas. An all time favorite book of mine. Think Persuasion but with a revenge plot. Aline drives McKenna away when they were younger to save him and he comes back a rich ass bitch ready for revenge. The chemistry between Aline and McKenna is insane. One of the few times I truly believed the “soulmates” thing. These two are definitely soulmates. And there’s a wonderful secondary romance as well.
What I Did For a Duke by Julie Anne Long. An Age Gap romance where Alexander plans to seduce Genevieve as revenge against her brother (who slept with his mistress) but she susses him out quickly from there they become sort of friends? he helps her win over her crush, he tells her she has stars in her hair, and along the way they fall in love. Alex is one of my all time favorite heroes.
Lord Of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase. As much as I love the hero of this book, Dan I recommend this book a lot solely for the heroine. Jessica Trent has my heart. She is that bitch.
Heartless Duke by Scarlett Scott. An intense romance between Leo, an agent for England and Bridgit, a fenian rebel. Lots of angst and sexual tension. So good.
Lost in Your Arms and That Scandalous Evening by Christina Dodd. These books were one of the first books I read when I started my own reading journey so these hold a special place in my heart. LIYA is about Enid who’s living her life as a widowed caretaker but then someone comes to tell her husband is alive and on the brink of death so she’s forced to nurse him back to health. The love confession that happens is honestly one of my favorite confessions of all time. TSE is about Jane who is back from self imposed exile after a scandal that ruined her ten years back. Ransom, the cause of her scandal and her last crush, suspects of being a spy and tries to stop her. With his heart (and dick).
#book recs#I’m definitely missing a few faves but that’s cause this list is too long#I would’ve recced tvwlm and whww by Julia Quinn but honestly I’d rather not send money her way#reading romance#romance novel recs#historical romance

Blackcrowing's Master Reading List
I have created a dropbox with pdfs I have gathered over the years, I have done my best to only allow access to documents which I found openly available through sites like JSTOR, Archive.org, or other educational resources with papers available for download.
That being said I ALSO recommend (I obviously have not read all of these but they are either in my library or I intend to add them)

Litany of The Morrígna, Morpheus Ravenna
Celtic Visions, Caitlín Matthews
Harp, Club & Calderon, Edited by Lora O'Brien and Morpheus Ravenna

Wait you were the Laura who loved Robert and Andy/Katie and hated the idea of Seb not being Robert's son after all he went through.
I feel like I remember you. I used to talk to you.
But you unfollowed a bunch of people who were up for Robert not being the real father and then I feel like you just dissapeared without maming a big fuss like other have done. 😂😂😂
I never hated Seb as the weirdos who wanted him dead I loved him as much as I adore Robert because he was my fave.
Yes, it was me. I was mostly active on my old account, victoriasugden ( @victoriasugden1 ) I privtated the url victoriasugden, than I moved over here old url peterbeale and then when I left the fandom I changed it to my current url. I didn't really tell anyone apart from a hand full of people I talked to a lot that I was leaving because I didn't think people would care. I'm not special.
I left when Rebecca took Seb and left with Ross - because I thought it was ridiculous to put the boys through all that and then take Seb away after Aaron had come to terms with it. Like what was the point?
Also I've been watching soap since I was a kid - I could see the writing on the wall, the new producer at the time who took over for Iain MacLeod clearly didn't like robron, or at the very least Robert. Sorry can't remember her name. I knew it was going to go downhill from there and I was right so I was very happy I got off that train before it went off the cliff so to speak. I've been casual watching since Ryan left. Can't say I've been too impressed, by far my favourite addition has been Caleb, and that's mostly because I've had a crush on William Ash since I was like 10.
Re Seb. I was never thrilled with the sl - I just tried to make do with what we were given. They got Rebecca pregnant, they had her keep the kid - I wasn't in the writing room, so I just tried to make do. Unlike so many others, when I no longer was willing to do that, instead of kicking off I just quietly left the fandom. And I stand with the like 0.1% of the fandom that shipped Katie/Robert.
It's very funny, cause a couple of days ago I found a copy of TV NOW floating in my room from 2017, it's the Robron wedding edition. Talk about a blast from the past! I really do miss the fandom, not the drama though - but the community. I especially miss how fun it was to live blog! I haven't really joined another fandom since then, I just float around tumblr, giving my opinion and what not.
If you ever want to shoot me a message, feel free!

Every single Brawl Stars character as songs
So, I was unhappy with my prior posts on this topic, both because of the song choices I made and because I didn't properly credit the musicians behind them. Ergo, I'm going to compile all of the brawlers into a single list below the cut, and then update and reblog this post each time a new brawler is released.
Feedback regarding song choices is encouraged if you think you have a better fit for a character.

On September 6th 1876, the Scottish physician and physiologist John James Macleod was born at Clunie near Dunkeld.
John James Rickard Macleod was the son of the local church minister, the Rev Robert Macleod. He studied medicine at the University of Aberdeen and graduated in 1898. He then spent a year at the University of Leipzig. In 1899 he became a demonstrator of physiology at the London Hospital Medical School, and three years later he was appointed a Lecturer in Biochemistry there. In 1903 he was appointed Professor of Physiology at the Western Reserve University at Cleveland, Ohio. He spent some of 1916 as Professor of Physiology at McGill University in Montreal and then, in 1918, accepted the post of Professor of Physiology at the University of Toronto in Canada.
Macleod’s research focused on carbohydrate metabolism and resulted in the discovery that insulin could be used to treat diabetes. This led to his sharing the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1923. At the time there was controversy about whose work really led to the discovery of insulin, and there remains some suspicion that Macleod’s co-awardee tried to write him out of the history books by claiming his role was less than accepted at the time. The fact remains that Macleod was awarded a share in the prize.
In 1928 John Macleod accepted the post of Regius Professor of Physiology at the University of Aberdeen. He continued to hold the post, together with that of Consultant Physiologist to the Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health, part of the University until his death in March 1935.
