Where the River Leaves
Tumblr media
Golden beams of sunlight
Skim over stony crags
To highlight the valleys below,
The river bounces the light back up
Towards the watchers on the mountain
Towards the sky,
And high above in meadows of wildflowers
We revel in the evening sun
As the river inexorably leaves us behind,
Waters from these beautiful heights
Flow towards the sea
Uncaring of where their travels take them,
Though I know
It will be far beyond
The pristine beauty of the mountain.

Remember Hind. Remember Reem. Remember all the little boys and girls who are more than mere numbers. They are dreams, humanity's innocence, and most importantly they are not to be forgotten.

I know it’s not much in the face of everything but I have been finding hope & resilience in palestinian poetry these past few weeks and I created a google drive file of poetry collections by palestinian poets that I will keep updating as I keep on reading. I also recommend checking out @fiercynn’s palestinian poets series for more poets + poetry available online

Her final tweet on October 8 reads:
“Gaza’s night is dark apart from the glow of rockets, quiet apart from the sound of the bombs, terrifying apart from the comfort of prayer, black apart from the light of the martyrs. Good night, Gaza.”

“The war will end. The leaders will shake hands. The old woman will keep waiting for her martyred son. That girl will wait for her beloved husband. And those children will wait for their heroic father. I don’t know who sold our homeland. But I saw who paid the price.”
— Mahmoud Darwish; Palestinian poet.

Listen. I wish I could tell you it gets better. But, it doesn’t get better. You get better.
