duke starts every morning by doing the crossword in the paper, unfortunately sometimes duty calls before he can finish, leading to hilarious situations where after pulling off a daring rescue, The Signal asks a nearby firefighter if she knows what a four letter word for decent equipment is

CHAPTER ONE ; 1/3
TRANSCRIPT:
[sounds of swords clashing and rowdy cheering]
geordie: Your highness, apologies for the intrusion, but her majesty has asked me to remind you of the time.
killian: [panting] The time? And what exactly is the time?
g: Half past noon.
k: So she wished to inform me of my tardiness. Thank you, Geordie. I will be with you shortly.
---
k: Am I the only late one?
g: I am afraid so. Even the princess arrived promptly.
k: Drat. Dara will never let me live it down. The one time I lose track of the hour…
g: No matter, your highness. Soon you will be Knight Captain and have plenty of excuses for tardiness.
k: I sincerely hope not. I am perfectly satisfied with my rank.
---
luca: There you are, at last.
k: Apologies, apologies. What did I miss?

"The human body can bleed out in less than 2 minutes," River whispered, her eyes shut tight. She whimpered when a bullet clipped the rocky dune above her.
Simon pulled her closer, his own eyes squeezed shut and he was vaguely aware that he would never get used this.
"I'm sick and tired of these gorram plans o' yours Mal!" Jayne yelled above the sound of gunfire. There was a split second of silence and the merc sprang up, returning fire. The gun clicked uselessly and he dove back down behind the rocky river bank, hands already searching for another clip.
Mal grinned, his eyes wild.
"Just trust me Jayne!"
He suddenly sprang up and fired, a splash signaling that one of the bullets had found its mark.
With a grunt, the Captain sunk back down, a hand held to his shoulder. Dark red blood leaked out between his fingers, staining his coat a dark brown.
"Qing wa cao de liu mang."
"Let me see." Simon's voice was soft, his hands firm. Gently, the doctor prodded at the wound, quietly apologizing when Mal hissed.
"I'll need to get the bullet out." Simon said, starting to protest when Mal pulled him away.
"Captain-"
"Ya can fix it when we're safely onboard Serenity."
More gunfire sounded and Mal grinned again when more splashes came from behind the bank.
River uncurled, her brown eyes wide and full of awe.
"Robin Hood came to save Maid Marian and the Merry Men."
"I'm not Maid Marian!" Mal protested while he stood up.
Zoë laughed as she walked towards them, her Mare's Leg still slightly smoking.
"She ain't wrong about the saving, sir."
She frowned when she saw the blood but left it when Mal shook his head slightly.
"Shepherd Book's tyin' up the few we managed to haul out o' the river."
Jayne gaped, his eyes wide. "You're meanin' this was all part of the plan?"
"Not the gettin' shot part, no." Mal said, grunting when he moved his arm. He ignored the doc's concerned look and started the walk to the small band of bandits tied up on the opposite bank.
This was the last time Wilder talked him into patrolling the river.

Author's note
Hi y'all. So, just a small heads-up, I did almost no research for this one. I don't know if I used the prompt correctly so I'm sorry if it ain't entirely right.

saw ur noah kiefer post and is this perhaps? noahcore?
OHHH god yeah. that's so it!! you get me!!! i love how grotesque the post is ☺️ when devotion is so extreme it would rend apart flesh itself in proof
it's in a metaphorical sense, but the theme pervades in every iteration of her across verses—a force of good that's too good it doesn't belong in the pews but elevated upon with reverence!! so loved and adored that she can only ever be a treasure to be given up, never kept. from the moment of her birth was there already purpose to fulfill, and one she's always taken pride in: to love without measure, to bestow her heart that was never hers to keep
reminds me of this one healer character from the miss peregrine series. read it a long time ago, and the eerieness of it, the pictures went so hard. i recall there having been a woman shrouded in a veil whose peculiarity was that she could sacrifice parts of her (usually fingers) and the dust (?) produced by disintegrating those limbs could heal injuries
noah is in much the same way. immovable object of such quiet passion, a sliver of sun woven into beams of moonlight. there's so much of her to give and yet never to keep, and always leaves behind a sense of longing—but when every cell, every vein beats with the encapsulating want to nourish and to offer itself, how can she ever stop?

dawn of the clans has so much wasted potential, as much as i don’t mind the second half of the arc (in general i don’t mind reading about clan minutia) it does really suck that the latter half of that arc had basically nothing to do with actually establishing the clans beyond basically splitting into the groups and picking leaders. we could have seen the development of the apprentice system and the creation of the deputy role, the creation of patrol types and their regular usage in all of the groups, the beginning of the naming system, and the early roots of later clan traditions but no three more books of clear sky fucking things up for everyone

From 1966 - 1975, the PBR, or Patrol Boat, Riverine was used in a variety of roles during the Vietnam War. Most commonly to patrol water routes for smuggling. This commonly led them to come under attack from other watercraft and from the shore.

Book 66 of 2023
Title: Ever Vigilant: Tales of the Vietnam War Authors: Michael J Hebert ISBN: 9781981812646 Rating: ★★★★ Subject: Books.Military.20th-21st Century.Asia.Vietnam War.Naval.US Army, Books.Military.20th-21st Century.Asia.Vietnam War.US Army.Naval.PBR
Description: War is carried out by young people trained for the task. It occurs at the edge, or just over the edge, of what passes for civilized behavior. During the Vietnam War, the US military employed heavily-armed high-speed gunboats to intercept and disrupt enemy travel on the rivers and bays of South Vietnam. In this variant from standard Vietnam War works, Michael Hebert takes the reader along for a ride in this engaging memoir of his year in Vietnam. This light yet quick-witted nautical adventure entertains readers with tales of romance, daring exploits, and abject fear. It is full of mayhem peppered with humorous undertones. The remote Vung Ro Bay, while an idyllic setting, is not without peril. It is a constant target for snipers, mortar barrages, and full-out perimeter assaults. Hebert's boat becomes a casualty to a rocket propelled grenade. Their base is wiped out by a super typhoon and they are forced to spend two days in the South China Sea with mountainous swells that threaten to sink the small 32-foot craft. From start to finish, 'Ever Vigilant' is an introduction to a young man's journey and coming of age in a war zone. While primarily based on his first-hand experience, he deftly weaves sufficient representation to incorporate the difficult life circumstances of the Vietnamese people and the Viet Cong. The motivation for why the enemy fights is a product of the life-hardships they bear. 'Ever Vigilant' offers a lively, compulsive read.
