@lifeofmysteries seeing as this post is about the characters staying true to their moral characters and not about how each of them view their respective love interests, this comment doesn’t apply here.

On this note, though, a major part of sqq’s character is not about him not acknowledging his care for lbh and therefore running away, it’s about him learning to prioritize how lbh feels towards him as the victim of his actions rather than what he imagines lbh “should” feel about him as the person who has continuously (been forced to) hurt lbh. That’s why every kind thing (if we can categorize literally sacrificing your life for someone as merely “kind”) sqq does for lbh post-abyss he specifically says he does in an attempt to give lbh peace of mind and a happy future, and why maigu ridge is the point where he finally realizes that lbh would be happier just being with him sans the grand gestures that ultimately harm both sqq (physically) and lbh (mentally as a result).

Sqq knew from the very first mission that all the “characters” were real people. He talks himself into “seeing” them as characters only as a coping mechanism under intense stress (such as when he kills the skinner demon). And that doesn’t even work because if it did, he wouldn’t have cared to change anything about the world of pidw. Sqq’s whole “lbh would’ve walked into the abyss had i asked” thing was about him finally realizing the extent to which lbh would forgive him for anything because of his love for sqq, not him realizing lbh is “real.” If anything, to go back to my post, the only thing sqq would have learned was that kindness is, in fact, a narrative-changing act, but the thing that puts sqq in league with the other protags is that he fully expects his kindness to mean nothing to anyone but he chooses to be kind anyways because transmigration did not change anything about him being a good person.

Tbh, I think if you read an mxtx novel with the expectation that the story’s hero is meant to learn some valuable lesson that fundamentally changes their character and views on life, then you are reading her books wrong. There’s not a single mxtx protag (currently) in existence who changes by the end of the story. It’s the world they live in that is changed because of their actions:

—Shen Yuan’s Shen Qingqiu transforms a toxic masculinity fantasy into a queer romance in which the unhappy stallion protagonist with a harem in the 100s is given his monogamous happy ending with a husband he actually loves and values with reciprocity. They fuck off to their forever honeymoon after exposing the corruptness of the cultivation world that ruined Luo Binghe’s life to begin with, and all of this was only possibly because Shen Yuan was just a genuinely nice fucking person. The world lives to see another day and a fuckton of people who died (or didn’t even get to exist) in the original stallion novel get to live long, more fulfilled lives in Shen Yuan’s revision.

—Wei Wuxian is killed for sticking up for a condemned clan, is resurrected against his will, and still stands by his actions in his first life while protecting those that continued to wrongfully condemn him. As a reward, the corpses of the people he died protecting save him and his loved ones (and the rest of the bystanders who killed them), he bags himself the most perfect and perfectly matched man in the cultivation world, and he continues to help others and do what he wants to the ire of the cultivation world who are now too embarrassed to fight him. The younger generation look to him as a beloved teacher, protector, and role model to aspire towards.

—Xie Lian rebelled against hierarchy as a beloved prince of a prospering kingdom, then as a beloved god against the older gods, then as a reviled scrap gods against the then most popular gods of the present day. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it and to never hold resentment even if that kindness blew up in his face (and it often did). He gets to marry the man (ghost) who has seen him at his best and absolute worst and chooses him unconditionally, something no one else has ever done before. At the end of the novel, he is the god that all the other gods look to for guidance and strength.

None of these stories humble these characters for being good people. Even when their morally righteous actions net them unimaginably terrible results, even when they falter in the face of their failures, they ultimately remain true to their goodness. And none of the books humble them for that, because being good is not a character flaw. So in short: please stop talking about how mxtx protags “needed” to learn valuable lessons to “be good people” when they were already good people from the very beginning. These stories are not about how the world changes people but how genuinely good people can change the world just by actively being kind even with no benefit to themselves and especially if that kindness leads to detriment.

i love writing about shen qingqiu flirting with people but not knowing he does it, and never realizing what effect it has on people or when they flirt back

for instance, he doesn't quite have a grasp on the usage of flowery, poetic speech yet, so he uses it in ways that are more suggestive than he means to. he compliments liu qingge's fighting style but the words he uses are "dancing like a snow lotus in the high mountain gales" and liu qingge turns so red shen qingqiu thinks he has a fever. he also said to wei qingwei that if only he was better a guqing player he would capture the sound of his laughter (wei qingwei has a boisterous laugh and this was meant to be teasing) and wei qingwei lay awake for three nights thinking about that.

he'd try to banter with yue qingyuan in the sort of taunting style of the original sqq, but in doing so accidentally strays into "shixiong should just bring his pillow and move in with how much he visits" "well if shidi insists" territory, and he doesn't realize it.

he pretends to be jealous when liu qingge goes on a mission with someone else, saying things like "shidi is having so much fun with [other peak lord], am i not enough? has my heart been traded for another?" with a fake pout that's supposed to be playful, but that inadvertently causes liu qingge to only accept missions with him or by himself, and of course shen qingqiu keeps digging this hole deeper by then acting flattered when liu qingge invites only him to the hunt.

he also definitely goes a little shakespearean sometimes to be dramatic, but people take that serious too. one time shang qinghua was too busy to read/write with him, so he complained to whoever listened, "the cruelty of his words have ripped my heart asunder, never again will i feel joy from what has now turned to sorrow", and two days later shang qinghua asks him what the hell he said to make half of the peak lords show up angry at his house like scorned lovers

in my mind he has also made a "chain me to the bed to have your way" kind of comment about his without a cure treatment, because mu qingfang added twenty new concoctions to the list that are yucky and shen yuan doesn't like yucky things, but even he was like "hm" about that and their next appointment was a little awkward.

Mxtx was actually just fucking cheating with svsss because once you get far enough into it that you actually Know and Understand Shang Qinghua, if you are a writer, or really any kind of creative, the entire concept behind the story itself will permanently have you by the balls and never let you go.

The actual narrative is beautiful and deep and comedic, but the meta-narrative? Understanding how that world and all the characters came to be and why they interacted with sqh and sqq the way they did and what that said about Shang Qinghua as the creator of all of it? And what MXTX was saying about being a creator through that???

Experiencing it as a writer wasn't even a case of self-recognition through the other or staring into the abyss and realising it was staring back yadda yadda. It was just straight up having your spine ripped out and then the story demands you study every inch of your own vertebrae. And you say thank you please do it again.

If the immortal alliance conference happened and the system were to take over again, how exactly would that look for LBH and SY/SQQ? Would SQQ be aware of what was going on? Or would he be oblivious due to the system putting him in a dream like state? Also for LBH would he immediately notice the shift? (Aka are the blue eyes like actually visible or that a trait for the readers/viewers only so we can distinguish between normal!SQQ and possessed!SQQ)

Since we started off with the system being visible in the first place through SQQ's eyes, Binghe would definitely notice, but he would probably not see before it's too late and still get pushed down into the abyss. He would come back with a clear objective, aka RIP OUT THAT THING THAT HAS TAKEN OVER MY SHIZUN'S BODY. However, I don't think the system would take over to push Binghe, SQQ has to do it himself. The system wouldn't want to replace the "villain" of the story in the protagonist's eyes.

I feel like people don’t acknowledge that when lbh fell into the endless abyss at 17, and got out at like. 19. Yes he got really bulked up and miraculously had good fashion sense (black and red cannot go wrong) but what if he became like really cringely emo. 17-19 are still impressionable years imo and if he were stuck with nothing but death, carnage and a crusty old demon he would’ve become like those emo scene kids but way cringier. SQQ meets him again and he’s in so many robes of black that they billow like the inflatable in front of car expos, his hair has been straightened (sqq mourns the curls) and is dramatically swept to one side so that it covers his demon mark and one red eye. All his lines seem to have come out of discord chats - he says Shizun like a discord mod would say kitten. SQQ’s hindbrain knows that he should logically be scared but the largest part of his brain (the hating part) is just laughing so hard and ripping LBH’s outfit and entire personality change to shreds.

LBH notices that SQQ seems to have blue screened, leans closer and says “missed me, shizun?” And SQQ can’t take it anymore all he hears is those cringey discord mod voice lines. To all the HHP disciples it seems like SQQ has snapped. He’s criticising everything from LBH’s hair to the way he walks (now its more like a prowl, seriously you have to stop its embarrassing) When SQQ is finally done and stops to take a breath the entire area is silent. LBH is sobbing like a woman scorned and the HHP disciples are just gaping.

SQQ pats LBH on the head and chirps “It’s nice to see you again though!” And just vanishes. Everyone is convinced that they’re in a fever dream, even SQQ (his logic gets a little wonky sometimes). The next time anyone sees LBH it’s been a week and he now looks like how he looks in canon.

post canon SVSSS x minato hokage era naruto crossover where it's scumplane (bcos i love scumplane) heading to the elemental nations on official business for some reason or another (maybe theres a barrier between their lands to prevent leakage of spiritual energy or somethign) SJ hates being alive purely because it means he's in SQH's debt for ripping him out of SQQ's body that Shen Yuan was inhabiting and reviving SJ (because SY decided to fuck off and live his best life as the demon emperor's wife and Cang Qiong NEEDS a peak lord for Qing Jing)

canonically immortals are extremely beautiful (even SQH is described as a 'proper' face iirc) and SJ is like TOP TIER beauty, but also immortals are sometimes described to have faces 'carved from jade' so I imagine when they step into immortality, they no longer have micro expressions and have like... crazy control over their facial muscles - so it kinda freaks out the ninjas, because the only emotions they can see is exactly what scumplane want them to see (SJ - disgust, usually. SQH - cowardice/flattery)

Scumplane also have 0 sense of danger when it comes to shinobi - they're immortals and old (lets say this is an indetermined amount of time after canon wraps up) so things like mundane steel and mortal poisons mean nothing to them when theyre so old. They also don't even bother holding back their tongues because what can these mortals even do to them? Worse comes to worse, they just seal up the worlds again, or just wait out for all these mortals to die (a strategy they use for troublesome emperors or politicians).

They also bring their disciples (Ming Fan specifically because I want him to have a redemption) and after canon had wrapped up the PIDW's story finished, everyone in the world actually bounced back into their rightful places (e.g. MF suddenly got a second puberty, his face improved to be beautiful as it should be and his intelligence returned to the level that the head disciple of the scholarly peak should be).

I want it to be during Minato hokage's short, short tenure - Minato is 23, a war hero and recently hired as ninja president, Konoha just came out of a war and suddenly the daimyo is paying WELL and hiring for the best teams of Konoha to escort these foreigners who are so otherwordly beautiful and so otherworldly RICH, like, the material of the clothes they wear puts the daimyos court to shame, they can pay in pure gold and stones thrumming with power.

SJ's whole thing is like... based on image. So imagine SQH bowing and being like 'ooh thank you for your hospitality' and SJ just grabbing him by the back of his collar and hauling him up like 'wtf dont even bother bowing to this guy. Have some face. he's only got the same rank as you AND he's a fucking child.'

(He's figured that Daimyo = weak emperor-ish, because what kind of a emperor only has control of such a small land AND has others in nearby lands with the same, competing title????. Hokage & Konoha is like the sects, and all the peak lords of CQS are of the same rank as a sect leader. Of course, they all defer to YQY officially, but tbh all the peaks run like their own individual sects, and SJ has never allowed himself to act below YQY in rank)

During Minato's reign, Orochimaru is still a loyal Konoha shinobi.... his interest in immortals makes him soooooo crazy invested in them....

SJ looks at Orochimaru who's questioning him on immortality and is like, 'out of all these people, you are the closest. Your mind is too unstable, however (ironic, coming from SJ) and you still cling too tightly to the material world. Abandon all worldly matters and immortality may be in your grasp, if the heavens deign it so.' acting like he's a good teacher or something, while SQH is in the background, the voice of reason like 'SHIXIONG WTF!!! WE'RE NOTT SUPPOSED TO BE GIVING UP THE SECRET TO IMMORTALITY TO THE MORTALS OF THE FORBIDDEN REALM????'

Maybe SQH does know they're in the naruto world, and knows what naruto is, (hc that the water walking we see YQY do in the donghua was ripped off from naruto, when SQH was still writing PIDW) but it's been like 200+ years! He can't remember shit!!! This is all new information to him!

I just love how when the System puts SQQ through original LBH literally ripping him limb from limb as "alternative punishment," SQQ just wants to see his Binghe. Like it would be totally reasonable to project that trauma onto his Binghe, but all he wants is the reminder that HIS Binghe is sweet and caring to him. Fuck idk this isn't expressing the depth of the importance of that action, but the fact that he NEEDS to see Binghe instead of fearing him again is so big

He doesn't even seem to hesitate, it doesn't occur to him to be afraid of Binghe. His first thought and the first person he mentally reaches for takes the same form as the man who just put him through torture, but it doesn't matter because to him they are fundamentally different. Not everyone could make that kind of immediate distinction.

i think i finally understand why i hate luo bingge so much

i usually love the kind of character he is: vengeful, merciless, villainous. im all the way down for villains with a reason for them to be evil (and if you think bingge is anything BUT a villain, youre wrong). but i didnt felt that way toward bingge. and that really bothered me

there is a very thin line between revenge and cruelty. but its still there. and bingge crossed that line

lets be honest: in ancient china, there was nothing wrong with a teacher physically abusing a student. it was common even. im not saying its okay but it HAPPENED and A LOT. for gods sake, it was normal in my country to teachers beat students until the 90s! even after that!

im not saying shen jiu was right, or what he did a good thing, because it wasnt. abuse is always abuse, and it should be treated as it is. but lets take Bai Zhan Peak as an example. Liu Qingge beat the shit out of his disciples, and no one batted an eye

but thats not my point right now, my point is: Luo Bingge was not "cool" for "taking revenge" cause what he did was not revenge, it was pure CRUELTY

it would be revenge if he hit shen jiu with a whip several times. it would be revenge if he made him do forced domestic work. it would be revenge, if he made him go through the same suffering that shen qingqiu put him through in the abyss

but no.

he made the entire cultivation world see sqq again as nothing more than the slave he was, he ripped off shen jiu's legs and arms, he tortured him for god knows how much time, he let his wives torture him, he destroyed the ENTIRE sect that had nothing to do with it, and he killed the only person shen qingqiu really cared about

and dont get me started on how he destroyed earth by bringing together the demonic and human worlds

lets use a metaphor for better understanding: theres a perfectly balanced scale between you, and every other person. And when someone hurts you, theres this natural desire to push back. To seek justice. To bring those scales back into balance. But when you do the other side of the scale never dipped below the balancing point

and thats not what bingge wanted. he didnt want the scale to be equal

because even if things were restored exactly to the way they were before, shen jiu would never knew what bingge felt like

he would never be brought down. And THATS what bingge wanted

he didnt wanted justice for what shen jiu did to him. he didnt wanted revenge either. he wanted to be cruel

Why didn't Yue Qingyuan fight for recovering Shen Qingqiu's remains from Luo Binghe the way Liu Qingge did?

I have my own thoughts that don't really make sense to myself but I read a take that deep down YQY knew SQQ wasn't SJ anymore, so, he didn't try. But I kinda disagree with that. YQY only unsheathed Xuan Su only to protect SQQ, and did the same during the maigu ridge arc. But also, this take does explain why YQY didn't try to recover SQQ back. Idk...

Also, I disagree that YQY is not a good person. He is. But he is also deeply flawed and traumatized. He was also a slave who was abused, he is crushed against the weight of causing SJ to be caught by QJL. He witnessed his most important person, his only family be ripped away from him, and then couldn't do anything about it. He is also deeply physically, mentally and emotionally scarred by his time locked up in Lingxi caves. All his bones and tendons were BROKEN by his own shizun, and then he stayed locked in those dark caves. His bloody marks of clawing desperation and madness is still present there. And then ALL that just to realise that SJ died in the Qiu Manor fire. All his horrible suffering stuck in that stone prison amounted to NOTHING in the end. And then finding SJ again. And living with extra guilt of letting SJ down again and again. Thinking, he was not even good enough to reach SJ in time, he kept failing his promises, and then he failed SJ again coz he let him self-explode like that. I mean, ATP I do feel like the only thing stopping him from fighting LBH must be crippling depression when it comes to anything related to SJ. Like, he must think that anything he does just makes things worse.

But also, what this thread said kinda do make sense to me... Why didn't he even fight to recover SQQ's body? If not for the reason that deep down he knew that wasn't SJ but some other person? Then, why make the confession at the end?? Ah...it's too complex for my pea brain.

What do you all think?

DISCLAIMER: I have nothing against this person. I actually find their thread very interesting. Disagree with what they think of YQY morally but their explanation of what YQY is in terms of how he thought about SJ is very intriguing. Please, do not be unkind to them.

What if Without A Cure were a different type of poison, like a cursed potion that will consume a person's body & mind, slowly and painfully while they transform into a creature with little to nothing left of their human consciousness, ending up like a beast. Like a dragon.

A victim of this version of Without A Cure would suffer a series of gradual changes on their body: developing scales all over their skin, claws growing in their hands and feet, painful reament of bones, teeths being replaced by fangs, several migraines for growing horns out of their skull, and a tail.

What if the sessions of qi transfers with Liu Qingge and the herbs can only do so much to keep the transformation at bay, forcing the changes on Shen Qingqiu's body to step back for a bit. But as the days go by, these changes come again slowly, each time a little bit harder to fight. And the flares of Without A Cure make these changes happen at a violent speed.

He can hide the worst of it with a veil, gloves and a hat while being in CQ mountain. Having LQG and MQF helping him almost daily. But the peaklords (Specially YQY) do their best to keep eveything as private as possible. No one truly knew what this Without A Cure was capable of, since the few records of it's victims mark them as dead within a few days of being posioned, having "strange deformities in their bodies" as the only clue.

Maybe Binghe never really knew the true effects of the so called poison with no cure. He only knew his master sacrificed his cultivation and now needs qi transfers to help him endure the pain.

SQQ never really tolds him, he saw how guilty Binghe felt about the whole deal, telling him that he was slowly becoming a feral creature will only make the poor boy feel worse!! Unthinkable. It wasn't so bad anyways (it was) for now his draconic features are minimal, almost non existent after the qi transfers, everything is going to be fine. Maybe becoming a dragon can help him avoid death? Uh that's a problem for the SQQ of the future.

After the conference, SQQ's grief made things a little bit worse. Just a little. The pace of the cursed posion is becoming more bothersome as days passed by, now he can't go anywhere without a veil covering his face, and the little poking horns on this head can't be hiden by his hair anymore. Maybe he just should die and come back in his plant body to put a stop to this prickly curse. A lot of people, in or outside of the mountain think he covers his face out of vanity or bc of an ugly scar. Some weirdos are even trying to take a peek under his veil. Is this what Liu Mingyan has to endure everyday?! The urge to bite out those curious fingers is becoming stronger.

Then, what if when Huan Hua Palace takes him as a prisoner, a flare up happens and with no one to help him w a qi transfer, his horns grow severly inches long, his hands and feet are completly covered in grey scales, big black claws ripping his robes because his skin is itching like hell thanks to the new scales. His pupils become slit, his tail pokes out of the rags that his clothes became, everything is a mess and no one can see him like these.

What if when Sqq self detonates, instead of dying he sacrificed what was left of his humanity to stabilize Binghe, and he completly transformates into a huge white dragon, flying away into the sky, disappearing in the distance. Leaving a very confused half demon and a devastated war god behind, memories of his human life becoming blurry and far away.

What if some despicable palace master and a particular greedy demon royalty of the nothern region put a price on the head of the misterious white dragon that has been seen floating around the skies?

Idk this is an idea for a bingliushen story. With without a cure having the effects of the first drafts that airplane had thought in this AU, when PIDW was not so popular yet. And no, the heavenly pillar can't cure this. In my brain this version of without a cure is older than the concept of dual cultivation with a heavenly demon being a cure to almost everything, so no magic dick can solve it, they would have to find another way.

In my mind Sqq's dragon form is like this from Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Pretty big lizzard.

Very Quick AU, I've used before and will use again:

Soul Marks that move around and can, with a trusted friend, transfer between people! Maybe for cultivators, when you get to a high enough level of cultivation your soul mark can separate from your body for periods of time!

Shen Qingqiu's soulmark is a miniature sized crane about the size of a cat or so, that mostly stays hidden underneath his robes. Occasionally it will peak out of his collars and glare. When Yue Qingyuan would reach for his hand, it would snap at his fingers! (Post transmigration, all that is left of the crane are some feathers. Shen Yuan thinks sqq has some weirdly symbolic tattoos for a hot minute)

Luo Binghe's soul mark is a cacoon that looks like a tightly closed lotus blossom. It's located over his heart. In PIDW it hatched in the Abyss into, like, a black demon butterfly or something, that he showed off to girls to woo them. In SVSSS sqq accidentally stabs the cacoon and it doesn't hatch.

Liu Qingge's is a hummingbird: quick, pretty and aggressive. It flies over his knuckles, his collarbone, often hovers at his cheek and temple to look around. It's always been daring, and often as a disciple Liu Qingge would have to chase down the shixiongs he'd defeated that day to find it because it would flit over to them through his blows in its enthusiasm. It's a bit more restrained as a Peak Lord's soul mark (or perhaps he touches less people as a Peak Lord) but as his cultivation grew it did develop a nasty habit of landing on the monsters or demons he is fighting to drop a devastating spiritual blast upon it before returning to Liu Qingge.

I would say that this is PRIME fodder for the five years bingliu where Liu Qingge's hummingbird keeps trying to attack Luo Binghe and getting stranded on the demon lord when Liu Qingge is defeated. It would be so pissy about it too, always zipping all over Luo Binghe's body, especially his face and eyes to annoy him. Enough so that Luo Binghe would try and rip off his own skin to remove it (it's too fast, and binghe isn't willing to take a dip in an acid lake to remove it. Again.)

It would eventually find binghe's torn cacoon and start bothering it, eventually nesting in it. In thr process, it would help complete the cut Shen Qingqiu started, which scarred badly, and tear it all the way open, freeing the trapped butterfly within.

It would be cute! But it won't happen at all because while Liu Qingge was clearing Shen Qingqiu's meridians, his humming bird became very comfortable living on Shen Qingqiu's skin instead. Because it could leave skin for short bursts, Liu Qingge often left it with Shen Qingqiu deliberately so it could either return to him as an SOS message or try and defend Shen Qingqiu with a qi blast.

So! When Binghe and Shen Qingqiu reunite, it definitely tried to attack Luo Binghe, but Shen Qingqiu talked it down. It stayed with Shen Qingqiu instead of fleeing to call Liu Qingge because it was worried. Smash cut to Shen Qingqiu's self demolition with Liu Qingge's hummingbird still on his skin. :)

our fandom's cup overrunneth with both silly and angsty fics, we're truly well fed 🙏 i'm a bigger fan of fun than angst though, so here's a set of fics for the "made me laugh" criteria -

"the rise and fall of @ peerlesscucumber" by Allpiesforourown: this fic has a similar sort of setup as AMereDream's "continued" (a classic fic imo) in which we're reading online posts focused on PeerlessCucumber, which is super fun! but honestly no fic has made me laugh harder than the second chapter of this one, in which bingge is the one writing the forum posts. it's so fucking funny please read it you will not regret it

"With A Bow On Top" by VeryCharismaticDragon: bingge arrives in the modern world ready to woo sy, but doesn't want to introduce himself until he's sure he'll be able to make a good impression. luckily, sy has lots of Totally Normal literature in his apartment - bingge will take inspiration from those! ...rip sy lmao. the gag in this one is very good.

"Easy Mode" by Asymptotical: sy wakes up as sqq… and then promptly dies of poisoning. luckily, the system would like sqq to stay alive, so it creates a time loop to send sqq back to before he was poisoned. only sqq dies again, and again, and again, no matter what he tries to avoid it. eventually, the system starts looping a second person to help out - lqg. this one is more fun than funny, but the base idea of "using a time loop that resets when you die in order to solve your own murder mystery" is hilarious to me

Luo Binghe is a scary motherfucker. Shen jiu could have treated this man kindly and he'd get be chased down obsessively he treated him canonically like scum and yet he can't get his shizun out of his head. Bro... I know many say it's because he's got grievances against his Shizun becauses of the mistreatment and abuse he experienced at the peak but Bingge goes way to far to even count as a victim because at the extent of the torture he did it's beyond a victim wanting justice but a maniac it's goes way past that. Who craves their teacher affection if they had Shen jiu as their instructor most would stop but he still wanted it. It can't be anyone affection it's why SY being in the original host body makes sense because it kind of traces back to a lot of issues and Shen jiu the center of that. If the system is there to grant happiness for Binghe I think lol then his desires are in SQQ. Like i've seen stories of Shen Yuan being in other character bodies but like ultimately it's not really SY kindness to the MC that sets him apart because we have countless wife characters that already fulfill the role like Ning Yingying it's not really the lack of love but really the love he wanted from the original host and Shen jiu got the boot.

Logically, Binghe is a scary dude. A whole yandere that desires his shizun like no other. I don't think Shen jiu was that dumb he's probably aware if the taunts he makes to him got his tongue ripped off. I don't think it's the abuse that made him go haywire but the fact he was always rejected by Shen jiu himself. Like the difference between SY and SJ was one accepted the affection and the other didn't.

Like people could say oh if only SJ could have treated this boy sweetly but bro he wouldn't let the dude go ever. Whether he treated this dude as scum below his feet or treated him lovingly in his arms his fate is tied to this dude because in either situation he's end up in Binghe hands regardless. Shen jiu experiences a lot of shit in the manor he was enslaved at and was sexually implied to be abused by Qiu Jian Luo who hated his disobedience. Who's to say he wasn't aware of the child attention on him and he wanted to quell that shit down.

Even when confronted with someone like Shizun, he shouldn't be overly concerned about finding a replacement, especially considering the negative memories associated with it, particularly with SQQ. If he truly harbored hatred and contempt, he wouldn't desire someone similar to take his place. However, it's possible that in the past, he admired Shizun and believed they could start anew. Typically, intense emotions like rage and revenge preclude the possibility of reconciliation, as one is repulsed by their adversary. Yet, it's conceivable that he didn't truly despise Shizun, and perhaps never harbored genuine hatred. Instead, he sought revenge against the person he loved, who had rejected him, aiming to maintain exclusive attention post-Abyss through various nefarious means. It's feasible for someone to be consumed by revenge while still harboring love for the individual, even if they refuse to acknowledge it. I wonder if the act of reducing Shizun to a mere figure might not only be to prevent escape but also to ensure he never leaves Bingge's side again.

bingge is 50% plotting his shizun’s murder + torture and 50% just super baffled by sayuri and i love that for him

Sayuri just being herself unknowingly accomplishes the impossible task of distracting SQQ from his past trauma (helps that past trauma is significantly lessened by her killing WYZ) and Bingge from his revenge.

I think endgame for Bingge in this AU is for him to a. finally trust someone and b. make a friend (the first one he’s ever made) that c. is female and d. he views in a completely platonic way and isn’t trying to secretly marry/fuck.

It’s a lot of character development for him.

Ironically, by Sayuri rejecting Bingge’s advances over and over again (which is a wholly new experience for him, a woman not wanting him?? That literally never happens), she unknowingly restores a lot of his faith that true love and devotion occur. I mean you can’t tell me that witnessing so many women betray their previous lovers for him didn’t play a role in his own insecurity and cynicism. Qiu Haitang, in refusing to stray so much as a millimeter in her loyalty to her husband, in refusing to so much as glance his way in a lustful manner, models the way LBH wishes his wives treated him in his previous life but had never quite managed in reality.

Eventually it comes out that SQQ and Qiu Haitang’s marriage is completely platonic. This is primarily due to YQY and SQQ finally reconciling (through no small intervention on Sayuri’s part because she was so tired of their mutual unsaid past destroying the both of them). They start to spend more time together and Bingge witnesses one of their outings, with YQY shyly offering SQQ a hand-painted fan and SQQ accepting with the faintest hint of a blush on his face.

He immediately grows completely and utterly enraged on Qiu Haitang’s behalf (another new experience for him— sure, he’s sought righteous justice on behalf of hundreds of women before but somehow this seems personal). Because how dare he. After all that Qiu Haitang has done for SQQ, all the ways she has supported him and improved his public image and loved him (why, why, why did she never love him the same way), this is how that traitorous, undeserving scum repays her?

Which made him realize that a part of him actually believed that SQQ truly loved his wife back, and that just makes him angrier, he should’ve known that no part of Shen-fucking-Qingqiu was capable of true love and loyalty, how could he be so stupid as to believe that filthy lecher had a single redeeming quality?! But no matter, even if Qiu Haitang is no longer his wife in this world, she’s become something of a friend to him (despite her appalling taste in food and men), and so he’ll do her this one favor, he’ll obtain justice on her behalf and rip Shen Qingqiu limb-from-limb—

Qiu Haitang has to pull him aside and be like “yeah I’m touched you’re so angry on my behalf and all but you’re about to ruin my 33-step plan on getting my husband and his childhood friend to finally hook up, so I’m gonna need you to calm down.”
