The fact BNHA is still in my top 3 surprises me, mainly because I haven't really touched any writing for that fandom in like, over a year? But when I was actively writing for it, I did write a fair amount. And the crossover fics add to the total, of course.

The rest is pretty par for the course. Kalim/Idia are my favourite pairing, Idia is my special guy, I love writing whump and angst, and I *live* in AUs. Also, expect another BokuAka fic soon, for Whumptober 2024 hehehe!

Savages: Set in a divergent timeline in which a long time OC of mine, Kage, ends up making a deal with the devil in exchange for the chance to fix her "mistakes". One side of this deal is training Rin on How To Demon 101; the other opens many (literal) doors to things no one really anticipated- including the King of Time. Mildly OC centric, VERY focused on Demon Dynamics with emphasis on Cryptozoology and the sociological side of Demons. Lots of applied HCs and trying to interpolate a framework for Kin of Time based on mythology, for lack of canon evidence. Kage is a FOIL character. I have probably 17 scenes.

CONTENT WARNING: PTSD, some involving WW2, Gore, Animalism, Heirarchical disputes, mentions of and some actual demon cannibalism, mentions of Torture, mentions of SA, plenty of Angst and Hurt/Comfort, mentions of / implied incest (not with the twins), some BDSM stuff, a touch of implied Dub-con , and demons being demons.

Gore, pretty graphic SA of at least 4-5 flavors, cannibalism, torture, death by torture, characters dying multiple times in multiple ways, brutalism, suicidal ideation, self harm, bullying, Narcissistic Abuse, War, PTSD, Personality disorders, Reinterpretations of mythological and historical events, including some sensitive ones, etc. Not even mentioning the weird sex stuff which ranges from BDSM to tentacles and literal torture porn.

FOR BERSERK:

Feathers on Fresh Snow: In which Griffith stops Guts from leaving him on the hill that day by unintentionally showing a moment of vulnerability. Griffith's behavior afterward grows increasingly out of character until he becomes gravely ill - and only then does Guts learn that his commander has been "sick" for quite a while. Includes a quite different take on the "you'll pay for your dream in your own flesh and blood" thing. I have 11 scenes for this.

CONTENT WARNING: PTSD/CPTSD centric, mentions of SA, mentions of childhood abuse, Facing Your Traumas (and your parents), inadvertent trauma bonding, Griffith acting wildly OOC at times, Guts being arguably OOC at times, some Poor Casca situations, sorta torture (flogging), implied gang-SA type situation, Pervs, Sado/Maso kind of sex, Dom x Sub stuff, threesomes. Gets very dark and kinda messy at the planned end.

PAIRINGS: Griffith x Guts, Griffith x Casca, Guts x Casca, Griffith x Guts x Casca, brief and mostly platonic Casca x Judeau, Oc x Oc

That Which Burns Us: post-torture but pre-eclipse. In which Griffith is rescued, and though his injuries are not quite as dire as in canon (I elected for him to keep his tongue) he's still got a lot of road to recover... and it's possible he never truly will. Set in historical Europe, it's more accurate to the time and significantly more medically accurate. Starts out very angst and hurt/comfort and becomes very twisted and dark as Griffith changes over the course of his recovery. A character study in the effects of Torture, supported by actual studies on the subject. I think I have 7 scenes.

CONTENT WARNING: aside from typical Berserk stuff, we have lots of psychological stuff: mental breakdowns, trauma bonds, emotional upheaval, suicidal ideation, CPTSD, bad coping mechanisms, actual Catholic Guilt, and a Scar Fetish just to add some spice. There's murder, executions, jealousy, cheating, and insurrection too.

PAIRINGS: Guts x Casca, Guts x Griffith, Casca x Judeau, Oc x Oc, one sided Corkus x Griffith.

You know, I hate stereotypes but as I look out my window and I see stereotypical British weather in the beginnings of Summer, you know this one is based in truth. Of course it's raining.

I have completed 42 books this month ( plus 4 DNFs) and have read novels, manga, poetry and essay collections to get to this point. I read mainly from women this month and predominantly fiction which is not unusual, but the numbers were so high this month.

I also had my highest amount of five star books this month as well, so this might be a bit of a long one.

I am also going to link four different gofundmes I am aware for people trying to get themselves and their families out of Gaza.

Dina - Lulu - Doaa - Jumana.

Blue Exorcist 14 and 15 by Kazue Kato - I really am deep into this series now. The end of the last arc was fantastic and this one involved some of my favourite characters and I really feel the strength of the team and class is really beginning to show now. I just really appreciate this series alot so far and I can't wait to keep reading more of it. The story of Rin who finds out he's the son of satan when his exorcist father figure is killed, Blue Exorcist is definitely a heck of a series so far as they fight demons and break curses.

I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman - I've read this month so many books that have demanded to seen, heard and felt and this is definitely one of those books. The story of a young girl who grows up with a group of women who finally escape the confines of a cell they were trapped in, this book tells the story of her exploration of the world she now inhabits. Gloriously written and packing an emotional punch that will leave you breathless for days, I'd recommend this book to everyone.

Sketchy Vol 1 by Makihorichi - I am not going to dwell on this long as I have a whole review on this blog for it, but I highly recommend this manga about a woman who gets into skateboarding and begins to find new friends and create a new life for herself.

Mansfield Park by Jane Austen - I've been reading alot of classics and honestly very few have got five stars, actually few have even got four, but Mansfield Park is just so good. How Austen writes people is way ahead of her time, she is fantastic at creating people you love, you hate, you feel for and this book is no exception (even if the awful man in this book seems to come from my home county smh). The story of Fanny Price, a young but poor girl who is sent to live with rich family, she navigate, love, life, loneliness and envy, it is a classic for a a reason.

Homebody by Theo Parrish - I was lucky enough to see them discuss this book at my local Waterstones and was able to get a signed copy of this fantastic graphic novel. The story of Theo as they figure out their identity and find the gender they feel at home with, Homebody is a beautifully drawn and fantastically written story of figuring out who you are. I loved this so much and highly recommend it.

Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan - Keegan is at the height of her talent right now and it's short stories like these? Novellas? That make that so abundantly clear. A beautifully told story about a man learning where the power lies in his Irish village (with the church in this case) it touches on the Magdalene Laundries and the impact they had on women and the places they were based in. A tale of quite hope and heroism, this book is a gem.

The Facemaker by Lindsey Fitzharris - I will say from the top if you are not comfortable with explicit examples of wounds or surgery, this is not something I'd recommend, there is a lot of detail that goes into how these men got their wounds in world war one and I took several breaks to read this book. However this doesn't change just how well written this book is and the depth this has gone to research Doctor Gillies who basically invested plastic and reconstructive surgery for men who were burnt, scarred and hurt in the trenches and the impact of his work that is still seen today. The story of a pioneer in 250 pages, it's a piece of history that doesn't get heard about.

Vote 2024: The polls have closed in the second match of the Semifinals in the 2024 Battle of the Week Voting Tournament and when all the votes are counted, JoJo's will repeat as the Alpha Party Nominee. Jolyne Cujoh from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure will defeat Rin Okumura from Blue Exorcist at the polls with the final score of 36-33 (ignore the last graphic on top that said 35-33). And with that, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure will be the first fandom in ten years that a fandom will win back-to-back nominations from either party since Gravity Falls in 2014. Rin Okumura and the Blue Exorcist will fall in the Semifinals once more and will square off against the outgoing champion Louise Belcher tomorrow for the third place. And for Jolyne, she will now square off against Moon Tobin from The Great North, the Bravo Party Nominee, for the championship title. That match begins on December 1st.
