The fact that most European companies treat their non-European employees like shit- despite the fact that Western Europeans enjoy the highest level of workers' rights in the world- just because they can get away with it in the United States or whatever is proof why regulations are needed.
European workers are only treated better than their American counterparts because there are laws protecting them, not because European corporations are so much more humanitarian than American companies. Never forget that under capitalism companies will exploit you for all you're worth and all they can legally get away with.

The industry is horrible and awful, low pay, long hours, no real chance of advancing.
Whenever people touring the station or new interns ask me for advice, I always tell them to change careers lol
#ask#plus; i'm a producer for a statewide channel sure; but it's nothing huge or glam#like;; i've gotten to work with celebrities but that's more luck than normal operations#and i've said 'i don't hate what i'm doing i hate where i do it' so much for so long that i don't even believe it anymore#i would only wish a career in television on people i hate#but i do try to be even minded as best i can; like i'm acutely aware i work in probably one of the most toxic environments in the state#i've been sexually harassed; grabbed; locked in a room and screamed at by a psycho freelance producer#been injured and seen graphic injuries that happened because of incompetence; seen theft and assault#and had the men at work get aggressive with me because i'm the youngest and shortest and only woman#told by management i was only given opportunities because i'm a woman and it looks better for their image if they pretend to put me up fron#had my bosses retaliate against me for refusing to do illegal things for them#to the point where i was below the poverty line for several months because of it#told by hr that i have no right to complain about anything because even though i run their biggest show i'm just a contractor#had my work stolen and other people's names put on it so those people get the emmys that my work has earned#and lied to about pay rates so I wouldn't know I'm paid less than the men who have fewer responsibilities and less experience than i do#and now they're waging a war against LGBT employees by promoting ultra-right viewpoints and banning mentions of pride#so no i really don't want to help bring anyone into this environment#every day driving in and driving home i just think about driving my car into a concrete wall#i'm looking for a new job i promise

I'm so close to escaping insurance claim hell, I can almost taste it
#i think the hurdle in front of me is that 1. i got better quality shingles#and i'm afraid the adjuster is going to be snarling gnashing his teeth ripping me to shreds#i don't know if i need to acknowledge that i know the claim doesn't cover an upgrade or just forward the invoice along without a peep#and 2. the other part of the claim on all the stupid window wraps the contractor isn't going to do#until he replaces the other windows (which the claim has nothing to do with) and that won't be for another month or so#and idk if the adjuster is going to be#snarling gnashing his teeth ripping me to shreds on that either#i feel like a huge part of all my fears on this claim is all the bullshit i had to go through last time#and they were definitely snarling gnashing their teeth you did this WRONG!!!! even though no one ever told me what me the ~right~ way was

Crafting update: all the fabric is cut to size and ready to sew for my next baby quilt! I'm actually following a pattern for once! Well. Mostly. The pattern calls for 28 jelly roll strips and I have 24 so I'm adapting, but I am mostly following a pattern lol
#the person behind the yarn#crafting update#normally I can sew on my breaks at work#but one of the other [my job title]s is on vacation this week so I'm dealing with his contractors#and without specifying the industry I work in there's uh...not a lot of women in this industry#and some of the contractors. uh. don't handle working with women...well#nothing I can't handle but frustrating enough that instead of sewing I spend my breaks#by getting up and walking out of the room and doing like anything not work related for a few minutes#I know sewing is not work related but my sewing machine table is set up right next to my work from home desk#so I leave the room entirely for a few minutes. one day left until this coworker gets back!#then I'm covering for another coworker but like. that one is way easier to cover for. hopefully.

Got fired today. Oh I'm sorry, I'm an "independent contractor" and they just "didn't NEED my services" despite the fact that I got terminated for not immediately checking in with a supervisor about what time I left the work site and they didn't replace me during their rush days. It's totally not a punishment for not kissing my Not-Manager's ass that i lost out on two 13 hour shifts that were gonna pay my rent. It's just because they didn't """"need"""" me, and when I complained that this was employer behaviour (and sounded a whole lot like retaliation) and not contractor, I was sent the COMPANY OWNERS PHONE NUMBER which isnt suspicious at all.
Anyone know what I can do about this on the workers rights website besides just file a complaint with the IRS about the company? Because this really screwed me.
