OH BOY you mentioning its use of AI art reminds me of another art exhibit I attended: it was called Sweet Dreams and it was an interactive exploration of a dying fictional fast food restaurant and a journey of self-discovery undergone by its main mascot. It had decent satire and really good character designs (as I said before, they wouldn't look out of place in Amazing Digital Circus) but it was marred by constant use of AI art.
More information about that at
Halloween article in December: Fathom is a walkthrough interactive art exhibit currently running until February, originally meant to end on Halloween!
Fathom has a storyline that something like the SCP Foundation has opened an alien dimension up to public visitation and "volunteer field research," full of different creatures and exhibits made by a bunch of different local artists! I review all 12 of the named creature species in the article and some of the rest of the....event? Gallery? Indoor park? What do you even call it???

Meeting and Dating Ricky Vaughn
(Not my gif)(Requested by @ageofthegeekbby )
(A little heads up: I’ve only watched the first movie so that’s what this is based off of)
- You and Ricky met when he first arrived at the field. You were hired as an assistant to the coach, you’d keep notes and files on the players and take calls while the coach was busy so you obviously came into contact with the players during the day.
- Ricky is an ...intimidating figure. He’s this brooding, mysterious guy with a hair pin temper; and a criminal record behind him. That being said, you couldn’t deny that he was attractive. Alternative, punky and a damn good player; he always caught your eye when you were out on the field.
- As a sort of protocol, you were introduced to everyone just before tryouts began. With that in mind, you had your first conversation with Ricky after one of the teams practices.
“Hey! Hey, you!” He’d called after you and you’d paused a bit nervously in your place.
“What uh-what do you have written for me in that book of yours?” He asked.
“I’m not really allowed to share that Mr. Vaughn.” You’d replied quietly.
“Well, can you ...can you just tell me if I’m getting the slip or not?” You looked at him and immediately saw the anxiety hidden behind his cool facade.
Taking pity on him you gave him his answer before walking off the field. “Not this week Mr. Vaughn.”
- After that, the two of you were still practically strangers to each other but you did share a few conversations and polite hellos every now and again. He felt like you were someone he could trust, someone that was one his side, regardless of the fact that you weren’t exactly friends. He liked you ...he liked you a lot.
- It was after another practice that his friends invited you out for a drink with them. When you showed up, you found that only Ricky was there and he seemed just as surprised at the fact that you were left alone together as you were.
- Regardless of the somewhat strange circumstances, the two of you shared a few drinks with each other. It was a bit awkward at first but you quickly found a subject you could both talk about.
- And talk you did! Hour after hour flew by before you checked your watch and realized how late it was. The two of you finished your drinks and began your trek outside.
- While you were walking back to your cars, he’d abruptly turned around and asked if you wanted to go out sometime, blurting it out before he backed out of asking. You smiled and agreed, writing down your number before saying goodnight and driving off, leaving him with a small grin spreading across his face.
- You have your first real date about a week or so later. The two of you go to a more quiet bar and grill as compared to the previous rowdy one you’d met at. He’s charming in his own rebellious type of way, interesting with a lot of crazy stories that you get to pull out of him. You both have chemistry and it’s obvious that you’re gonna see a lot more of each other after that.
- The two of you share your first kiss before one of his big games. Right before he was going to go out on the field, he’d pulled you in for a quick, rough, passionate kiss; as though kissing you would clear his head. And maybe it did, since he ended up winning that game for his team.
- From then on, you’re his little good luck charm.
- He likes Pda but that “macho man” sort of Pda. He wants to show people that you’re together; and just touch you in public, but he doesn’t want to look like a total wimp while doing it.
- He’ll usually just keep his arm around your shoulders.
- Kisses on the top of your head.
- Quick kisses before he goes off to do something, usually playing on the field or going off with friends.
- Passionate, rough kisses.
- Intense and heated makeouts.
- He enjoys cuddling when you do it but it’s not this necessary thing for him, if that makes sense. Whenever you do cuddle, he’ll usually be the big spoon or you’ll be in the “shingles” position.
- He sort of loves it when you call him wild thing. There’s just something so much better about it when it’s coming from you; even if you’re sort of mocking him with it.
- Half the time he absentmindedly calls you pet names but other times he uses them to tease you. He’ll usually call you things like Chickie, Princess, babe, and sweetheart.
- He probably gets a tattoo of you or your name; or something specific about your relationship, after the two of you have been together for a while.
- Sharing and swapping earrings with each other.
- As much as he loves everything about you, he can’t deny that he finds it hot when you wear leather and dark clothing. You’ve never seen such a “I’m in love” look spread across a mans face in your life.
- He gets you this little skull necklace that has his name engraved in the back and it quickly becomes your favorite piece of jewelry.
- Whenever he doesn’t have to wear it, he’ll affectionately shove his hat onto your head. He thinks you look cute in it and it’s one of those moments that bystanders see and think to themselves “oh, so thats why they’re a couple”.
- Wearing his jackets. He’ll put them over your shoulders whenever he knows its cold; even if you insist that you’re fine.
- Helping him cut his hair. It doesn’t even matter if you somewhat mess up since being messy and haphazard is what he’s all about.
- Running your fingers through his hair. He likes it and it helps give him that “I just got out of bed and don’t give a shit what I look like” look.
- Carrying an extra pair of glasses for him. He appreciates when you say that you think he looks good in them considering he thinks he looks like a jackass half the time.
- Buying him books to read while he’s traveling with his team.
- Late night visits when he’s in town.
- Attending as many of his games as you can.
- He has your picture taped up in his locker at all times. Like I said: you’re his good luck charm.
- Hearing a lot of interesting stories, both about his criminal past and his baseball career.
- Sometimes you’ll just be reminded that he was a felon. Like you’ll forget your keys somewhere and he’ll pick your lock, or hotwire you’re car, etc.
- Being stopped on the street or just approached in public when you’re with him since he’s The Wild Thing.
- Getting close with Jake and Willie; they are responsible for the two of you going out with each other after all.
- Teasing each other. He can be a smartass when he wants to be but other times its adorably sweet.
- He has fun with you; pretty much, no matter what you do. He’s a man and you’re his girl, he’ll humor you and your interests and he’s fully willing to chew someone out if they try to give him shit for it.
- He’s not really used to fancy restaurants; or fancy anything, so you tend to not go to them. He’s completely out of his element there so it’s probably easier on you to just choose more laid back places.
- He sort of just tails you silently whenever you bring him somewhere that isn’t his usual scene. You get your own personal living shadow for as long as you’re there.
- Horror movie dates.
- Bar dates.
- He probably buys a motorcycle; or already has one, so you’ll most likely take a few rides on that every now and again.
- He can be surprisingly sweet with you when you’re upset. He’ll kneel down in front of you and take you by the arms or face, asking what's wrong and listening quietly as you tell him. He’ll comfort you no matter how stupid the issue is.
- Your parents either love or hate him; there is no in between when it comes to the wild thing.
- Trying to help keep his temper in check.
- He tries to avoid things when he’s worried about them so you’ll occasionally have to give him a bit of a push and a pep talk.
- He always tries to keep his problems to himself. He doesn’t want to bother you with what's going on with him so he’ll usually just not tell you about them.
- He’s a very jealous person but not towards you, if that makes sense. Like he’ll get angry and want to fight with the guy rather than you whenever he does feel that way; especially if they know that you’re together.
- Overprotective. He’s immediately willing to fight someone for you; it’s how he shows his love.
“Want me to drag him out of here and kick the shit out of him?” He’s being completely serious.
- The two of you don’t have a lot of fights in your relationship but when you do, you’ll yell, curse, and borderline insult each other. He has some anger issues so he may throw things as well, but that’s usually after you’ve left.
- Whenever the two of you fight, he’ll usually go to drown his sorrows at the bar; that’s where you’ll pretty much always find him. He’ll apologize shyly whenever he has to and he’ll always easily forgive you when you have to; he doesn’t take things personally so he just sweeps whatever you may have said in anger under the rug.
- He’s only told you that he loves you a handful of times and each of them were during an important moment in your relationship/his life. He doesn’t take the phrase very lightly.
- He’ll never admit it but he definitely wants to have kids with you some day.

IT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT: LUCY & THE BOMPS!
by Earl Wilson, August 19, 1950
Lucille Ball wanted to keep Desi home and off the road so she petitioned for him to play her husband on radio’s “My Favorite Husband”. The network balked and Richard Denning got the role instead. When it came time to transfer the show to television, Lucy made the same demand. Now a radio star in her own right, she was able to convince the network - nervous about America believing an ‘All-American girl’ like Lucy would be married to a Latin bandleader - to give them a chance to prove it! The Arnazs’ built a comedy and musical act and took it on the road. When the show got to the Roxy in New York City, syndicated columnist Earl Wilson tagged along and wrote the following feature, which appeared on August 19, 1950. Coincidentally, the Roxy was also the theatre where Desi Arnaz was performing when he wed Lucille Ball in 1940.
[NOTE: Although the text of Wilson’s article is repeated below verbatim, the photos and footnotes were added for editorial consideration.]
Lucille Ball has been one of our most appreciated movie actresses for quite a while, but it was seeing her do a bump on the stage that made me really come to realize how talented she is.
It was after she’d done her clever act with husband Desi Arnaz at the Roxy that I talked to the flamin’ redhead about it.
“Wasn't that a bump?” I asked her, as we got into a cab and pulled away from the stagedoor. I wanted to be sure, because some snooty actresses wouldn’t want it thought that they ever did a bump.“That was a married woman’s refined version of a bump.”
Lucille was sitting back in the cab, exhausted from several shows that day, and clamoring to be taken somewhere to see a show. She said she had been entertaining all day and now she wanted to be entertained for a change.
“Did you say refined?” Desi looked across the cab at her. I was between them. “Any harder you do it and you will knock my hot off,” he said in his charming accent. (1)
At Desi’s urging, she told me a story showing that doing the bump is for her not new. It seems that once she made a picture for Eric Palmer called Dance, Girl, Dance. (2)
“He was telling me, ‘Those bomps. Don’t do those bomps bad or the sansors will keep the picture.’
“So I was doing a very tame dance, not bumping at all. I had on a 27-pound dress, silver lame, with bugle beads, and it rolled from side to side when I shook.
“Durin’ a scene, Palmer jumped up and said, ‘Oh, oh, that was a bomp. I told you no bomps.’
“I went up to him and I said, ‘Mr. Palmer, that was not a bomp. THIS is a bomp.’ “And I bumped and I wrapped those 27 pounds of beads right around his neck!”
It’s a pleasure to talk to two such honest, earthy people after listening to some others who are always posing. A lot of people are astonished that they are celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary because, as Desi points out, “Everyone said it wouldn’t last a month.” “And WE didn’t think it would last a week,” Lucille said. (3)
Being romantically inclined, I asked for the details which most everybody must have forgotten by now but the participants themselves.
“Where did you get married?” I asked Desi.
“The Byram River Beagle Club, at Greenwich, Conn.,” Lucille said. (4)
“Thank you, I can never say that,” said her Cuban husband.
“Yes, you can. Try it,” Lucille said.
“The By-ram River Bee-gul Club,” Desi said dutifully and slowly.
“Faster!” commanded Lucille. (5)
“The Byver Regal Civer Club,” responded Desi.
“Oh, my,” said Lucille, “We were married by Judge John J. O’Brien. He’s the one who married Tommy Manville so many times.” (6)
Although Desi missed a show at the Roxy, where he was then appearing, to get married, he remembers, just as vividly, how on his wedding night he woke up the bride about 5 A.M. and demanded that she get him a glass of water. The funny thing is that she did.
“About 9 o’clock she woke me up,” Desi recalls, “and she said ‘Listen, you—, the next time you want a glass of water you get it yourself!’” (7)
Desi explains that he’s never made such a request since.
Desi and Lucille have formed their own company which they call Desilu Productions, this being a combination, of course of their two first names. “First time I ever got top billing,” Desi says.
They plan to do concerts, radio, television and movies together. Lucille comes from Butte, Mont., and, as everybody knows, has red hair. (8)
Lucille made up a description of herself around which a movie will be made. The title which describes her so accurately is "Blazing Beulah From Butte," and we figure it ought to get the money. (9)
Never underestimate that Desi.
When they were getting married it appeared that she might not be able to because of a commitment to Harold Lloyd.
Desi called Lloyd from New York and defiantly announced to him that Lucille couldn’t be available that week, as he was marrying her. “Y-yes, D-desi, c-can she be back next k-weeek?” stammered Lloyd, who never does. (10)
Desi is pretty masterful; when he speaks, to Lucille he is her master’s voice.
FOOTNOTES
(1) The ‘bomps’ discussed are undoubtedly from the “Cuban Pete / Sally Sweet” number, where Lucy gyrates her hips while singing “Chick-Chicky-Boom Chick-Chicky-Boom.” The routine was repeated (with ‘bomps’ included) on “I Love Lucy” in “The Diet” (ILL S1;E3) in October 1951.
(2) The article consistently mis-spells Erich Pommer as ‘Eric Palmer.’ Pommer was the producer of Lucille Ball’s 1940 film Dance, Girl, Dance at RKO.
(3) Lucy and Desi’s marriage lasted twenty years, from 1940 to 1960, although Lucille divorced Desi in the mid-1940s, Lucy never signed the paperwork. After their second divorce was final, Lucy revealed that Desi was unfaithful and a drinker, and that they were no longer compatible. Lucy charged “mental cruelty” and told the court of Desi’s temper tantrums. Some years later, she described the reason for the split as “the same old booze and broads.” Both Ball and Arnaz remarried, although they stayed friends and later admitted that they had always loved one another.
(4) Lucy and Desi married in Connecticut due to its shorter waiting period on licenses and blood tests. The Byram River Beagle Club in Greenwich was originally a Hunt and Kennel Club that became a speakeasy during Prohibition and after that a supper club. It was a favorite hangout of baseball great Babe Ruth. A single-family home now stands on the property. In April 1952, “I Love Lucy” aired an episode called “The Marriage License” (ILL S1;E26) that was largely set in Greenwich and mentioned The Byram River Beagle Club, although no scenes were set there because Lucy purposely left Ricky’s wallet at home and they ran out of gas!
(5) In “The Marriage License” Ricky also had trouble pronouncing the name. On “I Love Lucy” making fun of Ricky’s English was a usual source of comedy - mostly by Lucy - just as it appears to be here - in 1950.
(6) Thomas Franklyn Manville, Jr., known as Tommy Manville (1894-1967), was a Manhattan socialite and heir to the Johns-Manville asbestos fortune. He was a celebrity in the mid-20th Century due to both his inherited wealth and his record-breaking 13 marriages to 11 women, which won him an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records. At the time of this interview, however, Manville was only on his 6th wife! The termination of his marriages usually resulted in gossip, widespread publicity, and huge cash settlements. At the time of his death it was estimated that Manville spent more than $1.25 million on divorce settlements.
(7) This exchange (with slight variation) was later worked into “I Love Lucy”!
(8) At the start of her career - and apparently well into 1950 - Lucille Ball purported to have been born in Butte, Montana, despite her actual birthplace being Jamestown, in upstate New York. Ball (who then went by the name Diane Belmont) thought it sounded more interesting and exotic.
(9) Despite the alliterative title, "Blazing Beulah from Butte” was never made, perhaps because shortly afterwards Ball admitted her true birthplace. “Blazing Beulah from Jamestown” doesn’t have quite the same ring. It’s also likely that this was a clever bon mot on Desi’s part to create a more colorful interview.
(10) Comic actor and director Harold Lloyd had put Lucille under contract for his film A Girl, A Guy, and A Gob, to be filmed in 1940. There was some speculation that marrying Arnaz would interfere with the shooting schedule.
TRIVIA
While Lucy and Desi were at the Roxy, the theatre was also showing Night and the City, which had premiered there on June 5, 1950. At this time it was common for a larger entertainment venues like the Roxy to present both a stage show and a first run film. Night and the City starred Richard Widmark, who Lucy and Desi later convinced to guest-star on “I Love Lucy” in “The Tour” (ILL S4;E30) in May 1955.
In “Return Home From Europe” (ILL S5;E26), Ricky gets a long-distance telephone call from the manager of the Roxy, Mr. Rothafel, offering him a job, if he can get back to New York immediately. In reality, Rothafel was the name of the founder of the Roxy, Mr. Samuel ‘Roxy’ Rothafel. Rothafel died in early 1936, however, so this was probably Desi’s way of honoring him.
Earl Wilson was mentioned on “I Love Lucy” in “The Fox Hunt” (ILL S5;E16). While trying to wangle an invitation to Sir Clive’s country manor, Lucy makes up a story about the Mertzes meeting an Earl in the hotel lobby. When Sir Clive rattles off the names of some Earls to jog her memory, she fibs that he was just promoted from Assistant Earl, the Earl of Wilson, who canceled because he’s got the gout! Lucy’s imaginary Earl is actually a reference to Earl Wilson (1907-87), a journalist and television panelist of the time. His nationally syndicated column frequently mentioned Lucy and Desi.
In 1974, Lucy strikes a pose for Wilson during her promotional tour for Mame.

Y’know, its easy to dismiss Chicky Dip, and a lot of side characters in THQ, as being one-dimensional and plain characters - with no other traits then being the ‘comic relief’ who the audience can treat as a joke. But wow, there is so much lost protentional that the fandom could be doing with these characters. Like so much character interactions and backstories.
Some examples:
. Ashlie and Chicky Dip’s relationship which didn’t even last a day. CD clearly never got over it and is still so bitter when he first appears, but they do keep referring back to the relationship throughout season 2. The funny thing was that they keep bringing up all these things that happened between them when it was only a day. Really dramatized how they weren't compatible.
. The relationship between Chicky Dip and his brother, one of whom is drastically more successful and liked from what we see. Would be interesting to see how that could be angst-afied by the fandom (especially if you wonder about how not everyone survived the moon, and how the chicken judge might have been one of those people. Would CD have any regrets?)
. No one cares about Ricky Tip. His whole character is so fun to play around with. Like, it’s just Uni if Uni was a more successful, arrogant, smart and a general show off (you could also say he’s stronger because bedwars is canon in THQ, and he’s beaten Uni at it too) So overall, Ricky is the Squilliam in THQ.
. I see absolutely N O O N E talking about the fact that Ricky Tip and Paulie now work together at the end of season 3. Like, that's the only competent lawyer in THQ teaching the law to someone who tried to commit election fraud and also killed his brother. If Uni every did a spin-off - I NEED it to be about that.
. LENNERD. No one talks about Lennerd. His whole concept was so interesting and felt so unexplored. He was created by Duni to protect Uni and himself when he thought Ddawn might betray him (didn’t do a good job obviously) He straight up just flirts with Uni, no shy undertone, no building up to it just ‘he lights up my life’. The fact that he KILLS Mr M for Uni’s safety. To be honest, I would have loved it if Lennerd joined the gang. He could be taught to be an individual who can be more then just Duni’s bodyguard. More then just left to believe that he only lives for Uni too. The rest of the D-gang got something, why not my guy??
.I think that Chicky Dip and Ricky Tip could have had a problem with each other. One’s got a reputation for being a really great lawyer and the other is the equivalent of hiring Lionel Hutz. I loved the implied hatred Ricky has for CD in the Misadventures of Don, but would have liked some actual interaction. I think I’m the only one to have made fan content with the both of them actually.
. Chicky Dip Junior. That’s all I’m going to say.
. A coherent timeline and ages would have been nice Mr. Comics
.Dashlie needed more character development. So did Dick, because neither of them felt like they grew in the actual series. Sure, we get the D-gang specials on other channels and at the end their all good now. But, where and when? The D-gang during season two were really just there for fanservice. Maybe apart from Ddawn, who intertwined with the main plot but was easily dealt with and wasn’t really a threat. The only change in the D-gang was that they grew bored of trying to kill their doppelgangers. But - we saw that in the finale of season one? Them giving up and wanting to be taken out of the mix. So it shouldn’t be surprising that they are still like that in season two. They still hate the others, and Duni, and just want to stay dead. Throughout season two none of the D-gang has character development, Don just starts to speak up for himself more and isn’t the yesman he was in season one. Season three just uses revenge as a way to get the D-gang on the good guys side, but they never redeemed or were remorseful in anyway. Not for Dick and Dashlie, Don definitely started becoming more independent and free thinking. You could tell he was definitely more empathetic in request. Basically - we deserved more Dash and Dick development in the previous seasons.
Just hoped that the fandom weren't only focused on just the D-gang and main squad. The world building and character design, though basic, was so fun and interesting by themselves!
#Tell me something if its wrong - actually deleted a rant cause I actually just forgot a thing that happens in the series lol#Not tagging characters cause meh#THQ#THRQ#the hardcore request#the hardcore quest#little rants#please pay more attention to the side characters they are so interesting and great
