25 years ago I was born but, more importantly, 25 years ago The Mummy was released. Had a lil rewatch and the smile has not left my face.

First things first, thank you to the cast for awakening my bisexuality. Secondly, Evie is my hero and one of the first female characters I saw growing up that was not only doing a job I daydreamed about but was a badass as well as a librarian. Thirdly, Brendan Fraser…. No one is hotter than you or will ever be. You’re everyone’s type. You’re THE type. Each individual lock of hair on your head deserves its own room in a 5 star hotel. The clothes on your skin as Rick make me want to burn down the entire fashion industry for never being good enough, for never matching the standards you set. Fourthly, Jonathan……. You’re a cash-hungry kook and I will always appreciate you for it. Fifthly, Ardeth Bay… Ardeth Bay…….. Ardeth Bay…………… baby girl……………… you’re gay. You saw a white man trudge through the desert after being in a forbidden city and instead of killing him, as you would do with anyone else, you let him go. The second you saw him the next time your first words were “he’s strong”. When you first came face to face with him and his gun, you walked away AFTER you disarmed him. Then, you ran into mummy zombies to give your boyfriend time to save his girlfriend. Then you came back to say goodbye. You’re gay, son. And you made Rick gay for you too. Sixthly, Imhotep I hate you but in the kinkiest way possible. It’s giving screaming-“fuck you”-just-to-get-you-to-fuck-me vibes and I wouldn’t expect anything less unhinged from myself. Seventhly… Anck-Su-Namun, I too would raise hell and bring every plague to earth if it meant getting to spend time with you. Never seen a hotter human being in my entire liFE. Lastly…. Given that The Mummy has had two perfect movies, I’m still waiting for the final part of this incomplete trilogy. I am a patient child. I will wait forever.

ONE-NIGHT STAND

She isn't in her bed.

Her head hurts like someone hit it with a sledgehammer, her eyes can barely open, and she's in someone else's bed.

Did she stay with one of her friends last night?

There's a grunt to her left, and she freezes.

Who the hell is she with?

It takes a minute, but eventually, the night comes back to her.

She was wired after solving a case that had dead end after dead end for almost a week, broken only when Officer Velasquez pointed out a small detail that she otherwise may have ignored. The adrenaline from solving the case wired her up so much that she wandered around the city for an hour before eventually stopping for a drink.

The bartender had been handsome, she remembers, and she was one of the only customers. So they'd talked about everything and nothing, like strangers do when they know they'll never see each other again.

And they'd flirted.

Oh, had they flirted.

She wasn't shy about her attraction or desire, and only got more bold as the drinks flowed.

By the time he announced closing time, she was drunk enough to be less inhibited than usual, amd get a hangover apparently, but not so far gone that she wasn't in control of her actions.

No, she knew exactly what she was doing when she grabbed his shirt, tugged him to her, and kissed him.

They're in his apartment, she remembers, and with that insight, she looks around, trying to take in his place with what little light comes in through the window.

She feels the mattress dip, and she turns her head to face him, to take in the slightly blurry face of the man she let take her home - and definitely had sex with, she notes with a satisfied sigh.

God, what the hell was his name? It started with an...R, she thinks? Was it...Roger?

Oh God, had she fucked a guy named Roger?!

Her eyes adjust as she takes him in, and her lips quirk as her gaze roams over his face. Strong jaw, soft lips that definitely made the night worthwhile. He was a great kisser, she remembers. In fact, he was great at everything they did.

His eyes flutter open, and he blinks a few times before they land on her. "Hey," he husks, his voice deep and raspy and-

"You're really hot," she blurts.

He just stares at her for several seconds, then lifts the corner of his mouth and leans forward to brush his lips across hers. "So are you," he murmurs before drifting back off to sleep.

Rick, she suddenly remembers, his voice sparking the memory of their introduction.

Yes, Rick.

She settles back into his sinfully soft bed. Maybe she'll stay until morning after all.

Okay, here's a story for all JQ:TRA fans called when Race Met Estella where 17 year old future CIA agent Roger 'Race' Bannon and 17 year old future archaeologist Dr Estella Velasquez meet for the first time during the Summer of 1991. (Yes, I'm that old) Enjoy

Chapter One

August 16th 1991

 

“This is it, Rick,” 17 year old Roger ‘Race’ Bannon told his older brother Eric. “This is the day we get new faces.”

“It’s new neighbours, Roge,” corrected 19 year old Eric scornfully. “Isn’t that right, Dad?”

“Eric, Roger, please,” John Bannon scolded his sons. “These people are new and I’m certain that if you can speak Columbian, they’ll be nice to us.”

“Okay!!” said both Race and Eric in unison as they followed their father out of the house and next door where Eric knocked on the door which was opened by a red haired teenage girl. “Hello, you must be the Bannons from next door,” she said. “I’m Estella Velasquez, it’s so nice to finally meet you.” “You too, ma’am,” said Race. “I’m Roger but my friends call me Race, that’s my older brother Eric and our dad John.”

"You must be out next door neighbors," said Estella's father Mateo Velasquez who John, Eric and Race noticed looked like Estella if she was male. "It's very nice to meet you."

"You too, neighbor," said John before he turned to Race and gave him 20 dollars. "Roger, do you think that you can take Estella into town for a few hours and I expect some change please?"

"Sure, Dad." said Race as both he and Estella left the Velasquez apartment, got into the elevator, got to the ground floor, left the apartment building and went for a walk around Chicago. On the way, Race explained to Estella that he was now single having split from his ex-girlfriend Jade Kenyon due to her moodiness and she explained that her family had moved from Columbia, South America to Chicago for a new life.

Meanwhile at Acme Labs, Dr Benton Quest and his best friend Dr Jeremiah Surd were talking about their new experiment when Dr Quest's assistant Rachel Wiley entered the lab with two coffee cups in both hands.

"Be careful please, Rachel," said Dr Quest. "You might drop those coffees and we know that I'll forgive you for that."

"Thanks, Dr Quest." said Rachel smiling at Dr Quest as he helped her with the coffee cup in her left hand .

Dr Quest smiled at Rachel's words as he handed the coffee cup he was holding to Dr Surd who accepted it with a nod as Rachel handed Dr Quest the other coffee cup.

"For God's sake, Ben, we need to get this nerve gas to the city first thing tomorrow morning." complained Dr Surd moodily.

"Weren't you taught anything, Dr Surd?" asked Rachel angrily. "Nerve gas could paralyze or kill you."

"Rachel's got a point, Jerry," said Dr Quest. "Symptoms of acute, high-dose nerve agents include coughing and breathing problems, loss of consciousness, seizures, paralysis, and coma and potentially death from respiratory/nervous system failure. These initial symptoms of nerve agent toxicity occur with minutes to hours of the exposure."

"I'm sorry, Rachel but this needs to go to the city tomorrow," explained Dr Surd. "I know the risk of handling nerve gas but it won't kill any of us."

"It will." said Dr Quest angrily as he tried to grab the large can of nerve gas from Dr Surd leading to both men tugging at it until Dr Surd accidentally dropped the can causing it to roll away from them both and into a detonator which had Rachel screaming and running with Dr Quest in tow. Dr Surd tried to run but the lab exploded with him inside causing Dr Quest to start crying and Rachel to gasp.
