ngl this s5e7 scene reworked my brain chemistry and fully convinced me for a time that eric jackson was a #fightclubcore manifestation of archie's repressed anger and trauma and i still think about it a lot. istg it's a good reading. istg it has legs. istg it works GREAT in the character arc/subtext no question but it also works NEARLY in the literal text to the point that it's magical to me, plus/minus a couple of interactions with real people that can't fully be worked around

i mean s5 had the nerve to move on from this and have eric continue to visibly struggle and suffer under the weight of his rage and grief while (outwardly) functional/coping archie only begins addressing his own ptsd by first witnessing one of eric's ptsd breakdowns and fighting to get ERIC some ptsd support

and then they reveal that archie DOES have trauma manifestation hallucinations haunting him

and then after archie experienced catharsis eric just..."moves away" offscreen alongside all the other war ghosts

it's near-perfect i'm saying. eric could just be archie i'm saying

              cheryl was crushing — hard. and it wasn’t necessarily subtle, either. her dresses had grown snugger, her neck-lines getting lower and her skirts shortening whenever he was over. and he was over an awful lot — mostly due to her encouragement, always telling her son that he was more than welcome to use their grand home as a dumping ground for his friend group, knowing that he was a member of said group. the irony isn’t lost on her. a middle aged woman, married, no less, secretly wanting to sleep with her son’s very handsome and very of age friend... she was starting to become the characters she so frequently wrote about, and it was embarrassing.                 as expected, oliver, her twenty-two year old son, and at least half a dozen of his friends, had taken advantage of their generously sized sitting room and couch. she’d assumed that they’d all be asleep like her husband, or far too engrossed in whatever it was that engrossed young men nowadays as she snuck down to the kitchen in the middle of the night, silk robe wrapped around her scantily clad body as she dips away from her office. she’s been working late a lot recently, locking herself away in her office to write what could only be described as filth, only surfacing for her day job or a glass of wine.                 eyes widen and she’s doing a double take when she sees him in the kitchen, becoming hyperaware of how short her robe and gown were as she clears her throat, making her presence known whilst grabbing a bottle from the wine rack that was integrated into the counter.  “ don’t mind me, just grabbing my fuel. “  her body brushes past his as she moves towards the cupboard, reaching up and opening it before pressing against tiptoes to grab a glass before hesitating, head turning over her shoulder to look up at him with wide, almost flirtatious eyes.  “ — want one? “
