normally i have a pretty easy time with first drafts of Characters. but i fucking hate Gier's now that I'm not exhausted and a Teensy bit off my shits, and I'm not even going to post the first draft of Maalik's bc they came out so bad.

I'm going to give them both another shot tonight tho and i might just ditch full body designs and figure out their faces first.

i'm so glad you guys like this costume! it is one of my favorites. but I put my absurd pumpkin pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else.

anyway, here are some construction/project notes/wip photos in case you don't have 50 minutes to spare for the full video about making it!

inspo wise, The First Book of Fashion: The Book of Clothes of Matthaeus and Veit Konrad Schwarz of Augsburg [this is an affiliate link] served as the major influence for this. the book is basically documentation of what this man and his son wore to major events in his life over a period of decades. he was getting ootd painted before it was cool.

the base pattern for the pantlegs came from another pair of ridiculous pants I made a few months earlier.

the paned portion is made from homemade piping sewn to strips of jacquard that are backed with twill tape to prevent fraying.

I made so much fucking piping for this oh my god. each of these strips was 20"+ long, both sides have piping, and these are the panes for ONE LEG. there were also sleeves. we're talking like 60+ yards of piping.

perhaps unsurprisingly, these strips were too thick to gather. so instead I had to overlap them to create the shaping over the leg. it looks OK but isn't ideal.

after this was done, velvet ribbon was sewn over the marked point to hold them in place.

oh! I also sewed a layer of mesh over the orange base fabric to dull it somewhat and provide contrast before sewing on the bands.

the upper portion of the pants was made from even strips of velvet and jacquard seamed together and fitted over a cotton base. the appliques were added to cover the fact the stripes meet at an angle at the side seam, and I sewed on orange sequins because I like sequins.

the happiness I felt when this fit was immense, I must say.

the bodice is two pieces, one for the front, one for the back. it laces up the sides with hand sewn eyelets. it wasn't very flattering as just an expanse of orange of the chest, so I added appliques to the front and back, too.

the black detailing around the top edge is made from varying widths of velvet ribbon.

the sleeves have similar elements of everything shown above--a paned upper portion, velvet ribbon trim, and a bit of lace at the cuffs.

unlike most of my projects the sleeves have no lining forcing the shaping, what you see beneath/between the panes is the chemise worn beneath this. it's made from the mesh used as an overlay on the pants with a jacquard/velvet ribbon collar which you can see peaking out above the neckline of the bodice.

oh! and then there is the pumpkin hat! there is a video on patreon about making this somewhere, I think.

and it's just that easy to live out your renaissance pumpkin prince/ess dreams!

Notes about designs under cut

Phil is a pegasus. I wanted him to be smaller than everyone else and to look like a bit of a traveler. Dresses in light maneuverable clothes. Under his goives his shirt extends over his palm leaving his fingers open. The heart is upside-down to suggest a spade. He has a prehensile tail, I imagine he uses it to trip people and hold on to things.

Sneeg is a silly beetle guy. Inspired by a stag beetle. His wings aren't visible but he does indeed have a little carapace over them. His cloak extand to cover his back, parts of his wings are exposed and they are very delicate so he keeps them covered. His boots and gloves are very thick and worn.

Not much on Fit, I don't really watch his streams, but I still adore him. I didn't want his arm to be too complicated, I really like how it turned out. He has a spade as the button for the band that helps attack his arm. He has a bunch of bandages, mostly as sun protection. His clothes ate very loose and baggy to tie into that monk aspect. I gave him a hat because I think he deserves one, although he usually wears at around his neck. I knew that I wanted him to be bigger than the other two, I like the idea of a monk who looks as menacing as he is.

All three of them have the striped pants and a bell for the kingdom of fools, the spades also tie into this. They also each have ribbons with colours relating to the other two, friendship ribbons if you would. Sneeg forged both weapons + helped Fit make his arm. They also all have some kind of swoopy, feather reminiscent clothing, Phil's jacket, Sneeg's cloak, Fit's shirt.

Notes/Known Issues:

As always there might be clipping and stretching with poses, animations, and certain sliders.

Textures can get pixelated!

Boucle areas are not very recolorable, beware.

Tights have some texture stretching near the shins and calves and some ugly bits on the foot.. can be ignorable.

!!!!! The top has a very very slight seam between the torso and bottom. Is unseen with high waisted bottoms and/or matching skirt.!!!!!!!!!!! I don't remember how to fix it like I did on other stuff before :(

I do not suggest using patterns on the tights. it will not turn out cute

i've only been into stex for about two months now but i was possessed by the need to create a physical version of my number one favorite train and thus was born CB the doorstop, complete with the ability to do splits!!

progress photos and details of how i made him under the cut!

i started with the pattern McCall's 8708 for Raggedy Andy mostly because the picture on the pattern was him doing a split. this meant that he turned out WAY bigger than intended (he's a couple feet tall standing up)

this was my original sketch, i still love how his little face looks :3

the pattern came with an iron-on face print which i used to figure out the position of the eyes and mouth, i embroidered all of this on and sewed on red felt patches for cheeks cause i adore his clown makeup look

next i sewed the pieces of his body together so he looked like a little ghostie

then he got stuffed! and joined me as i watched a boot lol

next were his very very long legs and his little shoes! sewing the legs to the body was very undignified

the next day i made his clothes! the pattern made a shirt and a pair of overalls, i added white ribbon on the sides of the legs to match his costume and put the overalls under the shirt (which is sad cause they're so cute but that's not his design)

the day after that i made his accessories! i made the hat out of felt that i cut and sewed freestyle. i cut a piece of stretchy red fabric to be vaguely square and tied it around his neck for his kerchief. i made his elbow and knee pads out of black fabric with white ribbon i sewed to it diagonally. i made his epaulettes out of felt that i glued to cardboard to keep its shape, and then attached them with rubber bands so they stayed on his shoulders. i also made his belt out of the same black fabric and red felt. i made his boot cover things from black fabric and sewed red ribbon onto the sides. finally for his skates i sewed felt circles to the bottom for wheels, and sewed snaps to the toes of his shoes to attach rubber corks for toe stops!

and then he was done!! here's him meeting one of my cats.

i had so much fun making him!! the whole process probably took around 15-20 hours over three days. this was my first time ever making a doll and doll clothes/accessories. my next project is making rusty and dustin dolls for @wilddoveofaphrodite <3 thanks for reading!!

"Codyyyyy!" you giggle as you run into him in one of many corridors of the Negotiator, "Happy birthday!"

"Hnn," the 212th Marshal Commander drawls helplessly as you smoosh his cheeks together. You flash your teeth at him before letting go and watch his baffled expression with amusement. "But... I don't have birthdays, sir."

You snort. "Oh, don't be silly," you wave at him, and cheerfully continue, practically throwing your arms out, "You do! Second day of Kelona! Which is today!"

Cody blinks at you.

"Did you just take the first two of my serial numbers and make it up as my birth date and month?"

Being his commanding officer's padawan, watching your face fall into a mixture of sadness, disappointment, and embarrassment strikes fear in him – it's as if he's responsible for your reactions, too. You're beloved by the 212th. Was he being too hard on you, even if he meant it slightly as a joke?

"What, you don't do that?" You can feel your cheeks fluster. "Boil told me all of you do."

As if cued, the devil marches around the intersection with a cone-shaped pink party hat on top of his head, the elastic band pressing under his chin. "Sir," Boil nods in your direction with an impressive amount of seriousness, "Have a good one."

Raising a toast with what you imagine is some citrus juice, Waxer follows behind him with the identical hat, but in cyan. "Happy birthday, Commander."

You grin widely at their act, pleased with their instigation and just recent participation. Cody stares on until they disappear from view, dumbfounded, probably open-mouthed and frowning which you can't see from your angle.

Your mirthful giggle returns his attention back to you, his expression softens.

"Not me. But... Thank you," Cody says almost sheepishly. His hand flies to the back of his neck, and you know you had him. Still with his respectful yet casual tone, he meets your gaze with a small, appreciative smile. "I'm aware how precious birthdays are for natborns. Really appreciate your notion to treat me as such, Commander."

"Then you know how we natborns celebrate our birthdays – with presents!"

"Yeah," he nods absentmindedly, but snaps his attention back to you yet again in alarm, "Wait, don't tell me–"

"Ta-da!" You not so gently shove your wrapped gift bundle into his chest. "Open it! It's from me."

Anticipation bubbles in your chest as you thoroughly watch his expression. His subtle glance at you that knows you're not taking it back, his gloved hands gingerly pulling the neat ribbon and peeling the flimsi wraps with swirly orange pattern, and his widened eyes in full blown wonder and shock as he lifts your gift to view.

You smile fondly. "I love that you have this sunburst design so I embroidered it there." You subtly point to the intricate design of your handmade craft; embroidered sunburst pattern on a plain white sweatshirt that matches the one on his armor involving a massive spread of orange tones. "I would've knitted the entire thing from scratch had I have more time, but I guess I'm used to improvisation."

"Well, uh, hope you love it, Cody," you decide nearly hesitantly, but you shrug it away, already moving to the other direction. "That's all for now. See you again in briefing!"

Cody is stunned, rubbing the pad of his thumb tenderly over the beautiful embroidery. You hope he would wear it outside demanding military duties – on a casual day out with his brothers or even to his sleep in his cot. His lack of response almost saddens you, but you know you need to give some time to someone who's never been gifted before.

You only make about five steps until he calls back at you, "Wait, sir!" You turn around, the same giddy smile on your face, and watch his eyebrows pull into a soft frown. "Do I, uh, wanna know what that means?"

"You think we'd go through your birthday without throwing a party?" You smugly place your hands on your hips. "And at Master Kenobi's behest! So that means a direct order from your superior officer!"

You skip away again, butterflies swarming your insides in fond warmth of friendship, but then you pause when you hear Cody's unmistakably hurried steps.

"Commander, wait!"

Cody skids into a halt in front of you, nearly running into you in the same manner you did to him. His gift from you still clutched in his hand, your breath huffed out of your lungs with a force as Cody pulls you into his chest and buries his face into your shoulder.

"Thank you." His quiet voice sounds suspiciously hoarse and wet in your ear. "I... I can't say it enough. This means a lot. To me."

Smiling tearfully yourself, you wind your arms fully around him and press both of your bodies closer for its warmth. "You're the very best Marshal Commander we could've asked for," you whisper to his ears only – in admiration of the qualities he stashes for himself as a man. You smile and bury your face into his shoulder. "Happy birthday, Cody."

When Chuuya woke up after the fight he expected to be greeted by the hustle and bustle of a Port Mafia infirmary. Maybe his own bed if he was lucky.

This was neither.

And while an unfamiliar place should’ve set off alarm bells, it did not. Because the first thing Chuuya laid eyes on was a familiar notebook at his bedside.

He smiled.

Getting out of the futon was not an easy task. His wounds were dressed but moving seemed to aggravate them. That and the blanket he was incased in was soft and warm.

It was tempting to say in bed and really Chuuya should’ve stayed and rested. So naturally that was not what he was going to do.

It was a bitch and a half but he was up. And pulling on the clothes that had been laid out for him. A baggy band shirt and a pair of pyjama pants.

Seems a house visit had been made and that only made Chuuya grow all the more fond. He picked up his hat which had been placed by notebook and left the room.

Chuuya didn’t really know where to go but the smell of food lead him to the Dorms kitchens. Where he took a moment to admire the sight of Kunikida by the stove cooking.

There was just something about the way he moved. The purpose in his movements and the way he was making eggs the way Chuuya liked them. The washing machine rattling away with his own clothes inside.

It was so utterly mundane and it was everything to him.

“Those for me?”

Kunikida looked up in surprise, then relief. He set the food down and walked over to Chuuya. Examining him with careful eyes before Chuuya closed the gap and hugged him.

“I’m here.”

Kunikida let out sad laugh “shouldn’t I be the one telling you that?” He held Chuuya close and Chuuya let himself melt into his arms. To let himself be held with such care.

Up close Chuuya noticed that Kunikida’s ribbon tie was askew. He ran a hand through Kunikida’s hair, now let out of its usual ponytail. It was messy from Kunikida running a hand through it, as he did whenever he was stressed.

Chuuya frowned.

“How long?”

“2 days” came the hushed answer and then it was Chuuya’s turn to hold him. “I would’ve been there when you woke but Ranpo had a feeling and…” Kunikida smiled tearfully “I thought you’d be hungry.”

Chuuya smiled, gently wiping the tears from Kunikida’s eyes. “Famished, but I’m afraid you’ll have to join me” he added with a smirk to his detective who chuckled in response. Kunikida kissed Chuuya’s cheek “I would love too.”

He would need time to heal from using corruption but he’d bounce back like he always did. And well if it meant a couple more days like this well Chuuya wouldn’t be complaining.
