Currently rereading Scarlet by Marissa Meyer (#2 in The Lunar Chronicles (which might just be my comfort YA series?)) for the second (?) time , and I am so happy Scarlet & Wolf still works for me 🧺🐺🍅

Also… I used to hate the fact that they changed the covers & the old versions became out of print (I was saving up to collect the whole series 😮‍💨), but now I’m like FUCK ME these new covers *groans in content*

So sorry to keep you waiting m'dear 😭🙏 After my exams back in May/June, I was quite literally brain dead and couldn't write for the life of me. This past week, I've managed to write another 2k for the next chapter so things are starting to look up again.

I've got a big family wedding this weekend and some relatives coming over but hopefully my writing schedule will be back on track so I can post something by the fic's 1-year anniversary on the 15th

Anatomy of brain chaos, vol. 1

no but the way viserys continues to haunt the story through rhaenyra and alicents conflict, which gets passed down to both of their children, is crazy good content.

the irony in that viserys the peaceful was the one who started this war, and the downfall of the dragons/his family in the first place.

viserys and daemon had their own conflict, but when viserys alienated rhaenyra initially by marrying her best friend, he then ignored his and alicents children, eventually later his actions leading to rhaenyra marrying his brother (who he'd also taken for granted and ignored).

he then kept doting on rhaenyra up until the moment he died, further seperating himself from his own children by alicent.

alicent knows of rhaenyras affairs, grows hateful and takes that resentment out on her own children instead, while her father otto is further poisoning her and them for his own ends to scheme for the throne.

so then alicents children learnt to grow up disliking rhaenyra's. the only time you see them even remotely amicable is when theyre bullying aemond, another bond made through cruelty instead of kindness. this is ironic considering at laenas funeral you can see that aemond actually thinks about trying to offer comfort to i think baela and rhaena (if i remember correctly?)

aegon and helaena couldnt care less, which to me makes it even more sad. if aemond had, he might not have then been so quick to rub his claiming of vhagar in their faces, and he might not have lost an eye.

the taking of the eye plus viserys' incompetence reignites and cements alicents hatred for rhaenyra even more. viserys takes rhaenyras side, not defending his hurt child at all, even going as far as to shout at aegon for even the mention that he might have said something against rhaenyra. this causes alicent to attack her, and later making her then double down on her efforts to pressure aegon into hating rhaenyra, further distancing him from her.

later we see with aegon that his mothers pressure leads him to find affection in other very unhealthy and harmful ways, assaulting his maids, excessive drinking, brothel going, and assumably fathering many bastards, leading him tho the child fighting rings as well. aemond too starts going to the brothel and avoiding alicent, but for platonic affection instead of anything more.

helaena is the one who received the most of her mothers love and the least of her cruelty, however their relationship is similarly screwed up because shes the only child that doesnt actually want affection from her...

meanwhile rhaenyra is a very loving and fiercely protective mother to her children, fighting for them above all else, especially when their parentage is concerned. she does anything for them, and it shows in their natures that their upbringing, other than the scrutiny from other nobles about their father, that they were raised kindly and wisely.

whats also completely different is that rhaenyras children have not one but three father figures, all of which love them in different ways, which is three more than alicents children have. you could make an argument for cole being a prominent male figure in their lives but he is also quite cruel and hateful.

we see team greens children grow up to be anxious, affection starved control freaks, with mummy and daddy issues, with not one of them knowing how to be a leader even though they are all in some way forced to be one.

aegon is an incompetent drunkard of a king who knows nothing of court or war or politics, not even high valyrian. he is only a figurehead, but is strangely empathetic towards his subjects and loves his children.

aemond is cruel and objective, a fierce fighter and being the most studied and educated of them all, but with no care to his subjects and far too willing to disregard or maim his own blood for his own ambitions.

helaena is the gentlest but she herself has no ambition to rule, she is kind but also an outcast of their society because of her prophecies. she also does not particularly care for her subjects, even being scared of them and their willingness to get to know her.

meanwhile in complete contrast jacaerys and lucerys are kind, more than willing to learn, theyre fluent in high valyrian, they are very interested in their histories and heritage and they learn sword fighting from harwin and assumably laenor? later probably daemon too.

they stand in the war council room with their mother and learn, and even baela and rhaena are involved by rhaenyra to both take part and learn.

the generational trauma goes crazy in this show, but all these characters are so compelling. i dont think there is a single main character that doesnt interest me. yes most of them are bad people and have done awful things, but its also so interesting to see how they got that way and see how one fathers actions, or lack thereof, caused so much destruction.

Considering how all of maekar’s sons have storylines related to the return of dragons in some way (even aerion, although his is obviously a dark twisted attempt at bringing them back), I hope we see a similar theme for his two daughters daella and rhae in fire and blood volume two

a little ramble: i think it’s very important on how quiet jacaerys is throughout the whole episode, actually since he’s been back from the north. he’s calculating everything silently, he’s been very upset with everything, angry at the world, his heart filling with revenge and anger for the death of his two baby siblings, the attempt of murdering his queen mother, the betrayal from his supposed family and all he wants is to ACT.

as we get into episode 3, we see him at the verge of snapping. he’s looking at his mother upset to why she’s not acting, to why they’re burying their loyal protector with the enemy who was sent to kill her.

“what of those who sent him.” he’s basically like okay? the enemy broke an oath towards you too?? why haven’t you punished them?? in a sense, we see how he’s siding with daemons actions since the death of viserys. i think its very interesting to see the heir to the throne trying to understand why their side is loosing more and haven’t acted yet. and now that his mother left to “personally deliver the message” TO AN ENEMY who btw did not regret anything. we’re going to see jacaerys’ anger snap. and honestly? i would to. and i’m whole heartedly supporting.

anyways, hbo’s writers are incredibly dumb for making rhae so? i can’t even explain it. though i know the acts of the dance, everything that happens, im going into watching the show with no expectations bc well, we saw got s8 play out.. we’re just watching the writers fanfiction atp play out lol

Daemon and Rhaenyra are astounded by what kind of a person Stev is. From alicents rambles and from the idea that she is with Otto, they had not thought much.

But now as they saw stev, they cannot help but wonder that they actually might be able to tolerate Otto more often If it came to seeing the Baratheon woman.

When Rhaenyra and Stev are alone, Rhaenyra asks If she can feel the belly. When she places her hand on Stevs belly, it doesn't take long for the kicks to start.

Rhae laughs "What an active baby you have", she chuckles. Stev smiles.

"and big, every single baby in my family has come out kicking with head of dark hair, and a Giant head" Stev giggles. They share a moment as alicent, Daemon and Otto walk into the room.

Alicents eyes are still lightly disapproving when they see Rhaenyras hands on Stevs belly but they have significantly softened. When they sit down, Otto and Stev on s two seater, alicent notes again that Stev is squeesing her fist in nerves. Her own concern rising for her nails digging to those palms but as IT does, her father's hand is already there opening the fist and holding her hand.

When Otto and Stev leave, Daemon is the first to speak "so she is out of his league"

Alicent can't help but still try a "or he is out of hers" but the empathetic and pointed eyes to her way Make her sigh and admit defeat as she cuddles to her lovers.

The cutest !!!

the dinner ended up being slightly better than they all fault.

Ramble:

Spoilers under the cut

The whole episode was amazing, I personally loved it and the scenery was so gorgeous and got me really excited for the whole season. I admittedly did tear up a bit when Jace came back from the North to tell Rhae about the allegiance and stuff.

But the only nitpick I have is with the B&C scene. Now, I know some people say it wasn't "graphic" enough. I personally do not think that, it was graphic enough - you don't need to be shown them killing a little boy to know what happened, and the sound does do its job with making the scene disturbing. But the execution of the actual scene felt a bit... empty to me. There was a lot more in the books, and Heleana was really trying and pleading to save her children, and the biggest point in that scene in the books was when they killed Jaeherys instead of Maelor, giving even a bigger sense of betrayal and emotional distress to both the character and the viewers. (Also, I'm not sure if this was brought up anywhere, but... where is Maelor..??)

The acting was amazing, but that lack of that dialogue and exchange really did, sort of, rub me the wrong way. It didn't make the scene less enjoyable I guess, but I just wish there was more to it, it really could've been a lot better. This was one of the more important points in this whole start of the war and it felt like we just breezed through it to get it out of the way. I believe the scene should've been given much more attention, but we have what we got. I can't wait for the upcoming episodes either way.

Anyways this was just a little ramble from me so I can just get it off my chest. Ne hate at all. I'm looking forward to new episodes.

It's so funny when rhaenyra who has lost 3 kids (correction:vis ii who she thinks is lost at sea), already feeling lost and depressed and thinks daemon is cheating on her, has a spy speaking more lies into her ears and believes her that nettles is the culprit> is a villian

Alicent who in books starts beefing with a 9 year old, tortures her enough to run her out of her own home, one of her kids kills rhae's kid and leads to a war where both of their kids will be killed all because she thinks her kids are superior, male line is superior because of her dumb religion

Or in show where her sole reason for start beefing with rhae is because she didn't share info about her sex life with a lady who went behind her back and married her father at ottos command, someone rhae knows is out to destroy her, and alicent thinks she has any right to honesty and at the end did not even crown aegon because of ambition or because her son deserved it but because of a rambling of a dying man> is human

like i know we gays tend to gravitate to eachother but goddamn shes married two queer men and now shes rizzing up mysaria, (who is ironically queer husband number two's ex fiancee) and this is without even mentioning the tragic-homoerotic-childhood-friend lesbians vibe she had going on with alicent like?
