it's so frustrating to be someone who was really hardcore reysky in 2015-2017. on one hand, i love that rey is a skywalker and continues anakin's legacy even though they aren't biologically related. i genuinely think that's awesome and rey IS a skywalker. on the other hand, when i rewatch tfa i think it's blantanly clear that rey is meant to be luke's biological daughter and that when they changed directors between the first and second movie they changed the entire plan and i find that really fucking frustrating.

I think about kylo slanders on twitter says leia wont speak to ben and reysky stan mocked elisa l for her worst takes on Leia who made her mistakes i never forgvie JJ made han and leia as shitty parents if Rian made Solos as good parents
Theres still drama all these years after the movies ended 🙃
I don't think Han and Leia were bad parents. They just couldn't understand what Ben was going through and didn't know how to help him. He was extremely strong with the force, and on top of that had Snoke/Palpatine in his head. He was a very troubled kid and they struggled to know how to help him. I think Han especially had a tough time connecting with him, Leia could a bit more because of her connection with the force. But they genuinely thought sending him off to train with Luke would be the best thing. But sadly, that is what led to his downfall. And I think Ben resented them, even hated them, for that. If they'd never sent him away, that fateful night at the academy never would have happened.
In TFA we saw how much they loved Ben. Leia wanted him to come home. She didn't care about the horrible things he'd done, or all the mistakes he'd made. She just wanted her son to come home. And Han literally gave his life for him in the hopes that it would push him to come back.
Rian followed on from that in TLJ. Ben thought his mother would hate him after what he'd done, but all he could feel from her was love. Leia still loved him no matter what. She held onto that hope, and when she had a moment of doubt Luke reminded her that 'no one's ever really gone'. It wasn't too late for him to come home.
TROS, on the other hand, for some reason did a complete 180. Leia had trained to become a Jedi, and was now even training Rey. So... couldn't she have trained Ben then?? Why'd she send him away to Luke? And don't even get me started on the whole 'at the end of her Jedi journey she foresaw her son would die, but hoped one day someone would complete her journey'. But that would mean her son would die right??? Makes no sense. The way JJ handled Leia in TROS, especially in regards to Ben, was pretty bad.
Even though it wasn't really Han in Ben's memory, it was him remembering and knowing deep down that his father loved him. That his mother still wanted him to come home. It was Ben finally acknowledging what he'd always known but couldn't allow himself to accept - that his parents loved him unconditionally.

The mofos who think Rey could still turn out to be Kylo’s twin sibling and who come up with elaborate behind-the-scenes theories about Lucasfilm are the real TJLC of this fandom. Actually no, we might not have even reached peak TJLC yet—we’ll have to see if one of the SW fan groups start theorizing about a secret fourth movie in the trilogy and claim Lucasfilm will *actually* release Episode 10, the magic movie to fix everything, in its 2022 release slot instead of the other movie it announced.
I wouldn’t even be surprised at this point if they go all the way and say exactly that. They’re almost there.
#most antis will drop off fairly quickly#but there will be those who never EVER admit they were wrong#and insist the plan was Cinnamon Roll Reyski kills her Big Bad rapey cousin/older twin who also has no character and isn't important#and there's no growth or conflict and Luke loves her instantly and gives her everything she thought she wanted in TFA on a silver platter i#and then there was supposed to be a two movie long training montage with quippy happy trio adventures#and f*nnrey but rey is also a lesbian#then they chop of Ron's head and give it to his mother to put on a pike because she has a NEW BETTER son now#because THAT'S good storytelling#THAT'S a message of hope amirite#if your kid gets fucked up by your mistakes and your family's dark past you just throw him away and get a new kid#if a predator preys on him- well he's tainted#that's his fault for not pulling himself up by his bootstraps and saving himself#that's not your problem anymore he deserves whatever he gets#steal someone else's adult child who already turned out okay#the really appealing protagonist is one who never struggles never makes a mistake and who gets everything they want immediately#why would I want development that sounds like emotional labour#we all know Good People are just born that way and Bad People need to be put down#man The Discourse around all this is fucking depressing#the philosophies on display genuinely pain me- including ones from other reylos#hint- if he could escape this prison of fatalism by himself he would have#and we wouldn't need Rey#SW is about the saving power of unconditional love#having a female protagonist doesn't change that#or make it lesser#romance doesn't make it lesser

no fence but like if you’re a grown ass adult man who took over directing a beloved franchise and bungled it, and can’t even take criticism?? that’s embarrassing.

The Last Jedi Rewatch
I watched The Last Jedi all the way through yesterday with everything the Shadow Council has discussed and puzzled out and found it to be a far better movie. Nothing can fix Finn's story, but the Skywalker/Force storyline is rehabilitated. Alas, most of the context needed to really understand it is missing from Canon.
That Rey is Luke's daughter in the movie is painfully obvious now (and Kylo knows it).

Full offense, but I have zero interest in any future SW trilogies that don't have any Skywalkers in them lol

Sudden secret family relationships are often hackneyed but gosh if they don’t save time. It forms an instant deeper connection between two characters who are trying to form a relationship over the course of a two-hour movie. Hella easier than romantic or found family dynamics.

rey random worries me bc it was more than heavily hinted at in tfa that rey (and finn for that matter) had some tangible connection to the original trio/the skywalker line, and i dont like thinking about why rian johnson, demon incarnate, would choose to diverge from that

i dont understand why reysky ingored rey's tramua for losing ben and pstd and i heard idris is playing new villain in movie , i dont like person who shipped rey and mara jade who is luke's wife in eu
The novelisation literally says 'it felt like half of her missing' when Ben died. She lost her dyad. Her soulmate. That's not something she's just gonna get over. Sadly the movie didn't illustrate that well at all so I guess thats how some people justify it. Cause to them she seemed happy at the end (all alone with a name but no family or friends, only ghosts 🙃)
Oooh Idris Elba as the villain?!! I'm intrigued.

Can we just discuss the fact that our daughter Rey is so powerful that she scares Luke, one of the most powerful Jedi's ever?!? She truly is gonna restore the balance and be the chosen one.
Rey Skywalker inheriting the Skywalker lightsaber and scaring the shit out of her father, Luke Skywalker with her power

Hey! I'm @illegalcerebral and you're on my OC Creator Bingo card! Jana's story sounds fascinating, could you tell me a little more about her?
Hello! I think you're also on mine; I'll have to double check. Either way, it's very nice to meet you! I'd love to share more about Jana!
Like a lot of my OCs, she is largely self-indulgent. She originally came into being as a brunette Mara Jade that could work as Rey's mother, back when I still had hope Disney would go the ReySky or ReySolo route, but throughout the movies developed into, well, Jana. There's so many different things I could share about her - let me know if there's anything specific you want to know!
Tumblr media
She was conceived before the Republic fell but wasn't born until a couple months before what became known as Empire Day. The granddaughter of a prominent ship builder on Corellia, things were fine for the first couple of years, even if her grandfather did pass away in an unfortunate ship building accident. But then her mother died, and suddenly she was alone. But Palpatine had specifically wanted an heir as a path to immortality and when he realized the wealthy ship builder's daughter he had tumbled with had a daughter that bloodwork proved was his, he swooped in and 'graciously' took her in and declared her a Princess and Heir of the Galactic Empire. If Palpatine had been father material, this probably would have led to Jana ending up being what most people expect - a selfish, spoiled brat. But because Palpatine is the Worst, she was largely raised by various Imperial Palace staff and much to everyone's surprise, Darth Vader. I could go on for a whole post about her and Vader's relationship but I won't... for now at least.
Through the Imperial Palace staff, she learned how things TRULY were in the galaxy, and as she got older, kept hearing whispers of a rebellion determined to take down the Empire. Around the time she is 16 or so, she finally has enough of being an afterthought to Palpatine, only remembered when he has use of her, and runs away, ending up joining the rebellion under a false name.
She ends up befriending Leia Organa first, who I also imagine knows that Jana is, well, Her Royal Highness Jana Palpatine instead of nobody Jana Sol but doesn't say anything because I imagine she knows Jana isn't like the usual Imperial royalty. Through Leia, she meets Luke, and I'm still figuring out how they end up dating, but I do know it's very cute - neither has ever really had a crush on anyone so it's awkward and endearing and hilarious for Leia, Han, and the rest of the rebellion.
Post-ROTJ through pre-TFA is another post on it's own, tbh, so if you want me to go into that part of her life just let me know! Sorry if this isn't exactly what you had in mind for learning about her, haha.
