Treadmill for Home: The Ultimate Guide to Home Treadmill
Treadmill for Home: We receive free products and commissions through our links. See the disclosures page.
A treadmill can be an invaluable piece of home gym equipment. The best treadmill for home gyms provides an opportunity to train cardiovascular health, and research has proven that cardio training comes with endless benefits, such as lowering blood pressure, weight management, and eliminating the onset of diabetes. (1) Although many might argue using a treadmill isn’t as effective as running or walking outdoors, an at-home treadmill provides year-long opportunities to train with various inclines that emulate different types of terrain.
With the recent surge in technological advancements, finding the right treadmill might require more effort than you think. Purchasing the wrong treadmill might lead to frustrating or ineffective workouts, or it might not fit your space. This article will discuss our top picks for at-home treadmills, highlighting key features that will help you find the right one.
How We Chose the Best Treadmill for Home
Several of the treadmills we review below are ones we’ve tried in our testing facility in Springfield, MO. Out of the nearly four dozen available treadmills, we narrowed it down to what we feel are the eight best machines.
When making our selections, we aimed to cater to a diverse range of users, including elite athletes and casual exercisers. We included treadmills with a justifiable price point while accommodating high- and low-intensity workouts. Some of our treadmills came with a heavy price tag but also had top-of-the-line features and characteristics, such as interactive programming and auto-fold technology.
Because these treadmills are intended for a home gym, they must be compatible with most spaces. To that end, some machines on the list below fold up for storage and have a condensed footprint. Another factor we considered was durability, so you can maximize the value of your investment while minimizing the need for frequent repairs or replacements.
Our Top Picks for the Best Treadmills for Home

Pros
Powerful motor
14-inch tilted interactive touchscreen
Inclines and declines
SpeedSaver foldable design
Trainer-led iFIT workouts
Auto-adjust technology
Cons
Difficult assembly
iFit membership expires after 30 days unless you decide to renew
The NordicTrack Commercial 1750 wins the award for the best home gym treadmill. Its reputation stems from its stellar list of high-end features for high- or low-intensity workouts. This smart treadmill provides a powerful 3.5 CHP (continuous horsepower) motor, allowing you to run at a top speed of 12 miles per hour. It also has an impressive decline and incline range, going down to a negative three-percent decline or up to a 12-percent incline to emulate different terrain, such as roads running at different elevations.
Its 14-inch tilted interactive HD touchscreen allows you to perform trainer-led workouts through iFIT, an expansive on-demand library of over 1,000 activities. It includes a variety of programs, from high-intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions to yoga practices. It’s like having your own trainer. However, it costs around $39 monthly after a 30-day free trial.
When exercising, the 1750 uses SmartAdjust technology to adapt to your performance, making each session personalized and efficient. SmartAdjust is a unique technology that keeps track of the changes to your NordicTrack machine while working out. It remembers these changes and uses them later to help your device adapt to your training level for future workouts.
Furthermore, if you don’t have a lot of space in your home gym, you’ll likely appreciate that the 1750 folds up and has wheels, allowing you to quickly move it out of the way when you’re not using it.
These intuitive features come with an expensive price tag—the 1750 starts at around $2499. Plus, you’ll have to pay for it if you decide to keep the subscription after your trial ends.
Complicated assembly is another potential drawback. I owned a NordicTrack treadmill, which took about two days to assemble. This is also due to my busy work schedule, which could resonate with others who purchase this treadmill. But with this being one of the more advanced models, I recommend researching and putting time aside to effectively set up your treadmill without any issues. It comes with a paper manual, and you can access a virtual manual showing you how to perform each step.

Shedding Pounds and Boosting Fitness: Your Guide to Effective Treadmill Workouts
Tumblr media
Starting on a journey to lose weight and improve fitness doesn't necessarily require expensive gym memberships or intricate workout routines. One piece of equipment that can make a significant impact right within the comfort of your home or even your office is a treadmill. This versatile machine can be your ultimate fitness companion, helping you burn calories, improve cardiovascular health, and achieve your weight loss goals. In this blog post, we will dive into the world of treadmill workouts and how they can be your key to a healthier and fitter lifestyle.
Choosing the Right Treadmill Before you start your journey, it's crucial to choose the right treadmill that suits your needs. Consider factors like the available space, budget, and the features you require. Choose a treadmill with adjustable incline settings, various workout programs, heart rate monitoring, and a sturdy build for optimal results.
Setting Realistic Goals Weight loss and fitness improvements are best achieved with realistic and attainable goals. Set specific targets for yourself, such as the number of pounds you want to lose per week or the distance you aim to cover during each workout session. Having clear goals will help you stay motivated and focused.
Structured Workout Plans To make the most of your treadmill workouts, it's important to have a structured plan in place. Aim for a mix of cardiovascular and interval training. Begin with a warm-up at a comfortable walking pace and gradually increase the intensity. Incorporate intervals of higher intensity, such as jogging or sprinting, followed by recovery periods of slower walking. This approach can help boost your metabolism and burn calories effectively.
Incorporate Incline Don't neglect the incline feature on your treadmill. Walking or running on an incline engages different muscle groups and increases the intensity of your workout. It also simulates outdoor terrain, making your workouts more varied and challenging.
Monitor Your Heart Rate Many modern treadmills come equipped with heart rate monitors. Keeping an eye on your heart rate can help you stay within your target heart rate zone, ensuring that you're working at an intensity that's appropriate for your fitness level and goals.
Variety Is Key Monotony can be a motivation killer. Keep your workouts interesting by varying your routines. Experiment with different speeds, incline levels, and workout programs. You can also listen to music, podcasts, or audiobooks to make your sessions more enjoyable.
Consistency and Progression Consistency is the cornerstone of success in any fitness journey. Aim to work out on your treadmill regularly, gradually increasing the duration and intensity of your sessions. As your fitness improves, you can challenge yourself with longer workouts and more intense intervals.
Balanced Diet While treadmill workouts play a significant role in weight loss and fitness, they should be complemented by a balanced diet. Focus on consuming nutrient-rich foods that provide the energy your body needs for workouts and recovery.
Hydration and Recovery Staying hydrated is essential during your treadmill workouts. Keep a water bottle nearby and sip water throughout your session. Additionally, prioritize post-workout recovery by stretching and incorporating rest days into your routine to prevent overexertion.
Conclusion
Owning a treadmill can be a game-changer in your quest to lose weight and enhance your fitness levels. By setting realistic goals, following structured workout plans, and making use of the various features your treadmill offers, you'll be well on your way to achieving the healthier lifestyle you desire. Remember, consistency and gradual progression are key, and when paired with a balanced diet and proper hydration, your treadmill can become a valuable tool in your fitness arsenal. So lace up your sneakers, hop on your treadmill, and stride towards a fitter, healthier you!

What study habits will help you this school year?
Reminder: it doesn't matter if you saw this reading a day or a week or a month or a year after posting this. My readings are timeless. You'll see this when you're meant to see this and receive your message.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Close your eyes and take a deep breath before picking a pile. If you feel drawn to more than one pile, it's alright, you may take the piles that you're drawn to. What's important is to take it how it resonates and leave what doesn't.
PAID READINGS | TIP JAR | FEEDBACK | MASTERLIST
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN
NOTE: Please feel free to give me a feedback on my asks about the reading! I would highly appreciate it and it'll be a huge help for me to improve as a reader.
Pile 1
The study habits that will help you this year are the ones that will keep you engaged in your lessons and courses/subjects. Something that keeps your mind active and keeps you interested in learning. Be curious about what you're learning. Take studying as something positive and don't take it as a responsibility. Have the mindset that you're privileged enough to study and learn these stuff. Be in a state of wanting to learn, not needing to learn. Also, leave your "failures" behind, such as low grades or not being able to get a perfect score on your exam. Instead, focus on what you lacked that caused that result.
Study techniques:
Make flash cards
Use white boards (the bigger, the better)
Act like a teacher, pretend that you're teaching
Similar to the previous one, you can also pretend that you're reporting the lesson in class
Make mind maps with only your knowledge and check what you missed after
Pile 2
I'm getting a lot of energy here from you, Pile 2. First of all, STOP CRAMMING. You might have survived the last school year by cramming but it won't help you anymore, especially this time. You need to study in advance especially when you know you have exams coming up. Stop studying the night before the day of the exam. Also, leave the past behind. Let go of your "friends" who distract you from studying and just want to go out to parties. Change your routine. Your previous routine could be a success for you but it drains you. Find some balance between studying and leisure.
Study techniques:
Study with your friends together
Put notes on your walls so you can look at them anytime and you'll learn them naturally
If you exercise and you happen to have a treadmill, put notes on the wall in front of you so you can read as you exercise (walking or jogging)
Similarly, you can record yourself reading your notes and listen to your record while jogging outside or exercising
Read your notes outloud
Pile 3
So here's the studious pile. I'm seeing that you tend to study hard, not study smart. And that's your mistake. You should study smart, not study hard. Stop memorizing and start understanding your lessons more. Stop rewriting your notes over and over until you reach your desired perfection of your notes, the "aesthetic" that you want. Instead, do your best to write well when you're taking notes in class. That way, you won't have to rewrite them at home. When reading your notes, it's best for you to use different colors of highlighters. Also when someone offers you some help in a lesson that you struggle with, accept it, even if you only struggle a little. Lastly, enjoy learning! Don't stress yourself too much about it and overthink you'll fail.
Study techniques:
Don't stay up all night to study and wake up early in the morning to review, especially to recall what you've already studied
Never ever cram and always finish the easiest tasks first
Drink coffee when studying (only if you don't have health issues or you weren't advised that you should avoid coffee)
Keep on rereading your notes and rewrite what you remember, then keep track of what you tend to forget
Make tests for yourself or look for tests online

Book: Open Heart, Book 2 Pairing: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x F!MC (Dr. Sawyer Brooks) Rating: Teen Warning: Sexual innuendo Category: Hurt/Comfort; Fluff Word count: 1.4K Prompt: From @jerzwriter, “In your HC, does Sawyer have any long-term effects from the chemical attack or its treatment?”
Tumblr media
By mid-afternoon, the cafeteria wasn’t nearly as busy, making it easy for Ethan to spot Sawyer sitting alone at a corner table. With a fork in one hand, she moved food around her plate while rubbing her forehead with the other.
Ethan began walking in her direction but was abruptly stopped in his tracks. “Oh, Dr. Ramsey! I’m so glad I ran into you. Finally, I can introduce you to my husband,” the silver-haired woman proclaimed.
“Hello, Mr. Reed. It’s nice to meet you,” Ethan politely responded, shaking hands with the gentleman at her side.
While Mrs. Reed explained to her husband that his ornery mother had taken a shine to the doctor with “dreamy blue eyes like Paul Newman,” Ethan kept a side eye on Sawyer as she stood and emptied her tray into a nearby wastebin.
Heads turned, and people whispered as she walked past a few occupied tables on her way to the exit. Since her return to work last week, the gossip mills had been spinning again, speculating about her physical and mental well-being and his and Sawyer’s more than just professional relationship.
Not wanting to feed the rumors, Ethan caught Sawyer’s eye just before she walked past him. With a subtle lift of his chin and a question on his brow, he silently asked if she was okay. She signaled that she was with a quick nod and forced smile. But as Ethan’s eyes trailed her out of the room, and she lifted her hand to massage the back of her neck, he was unconvinced.
<><><><><><><><><><>
“Morning,” Ethan offered as he entered the hospital gym early on Tuesday morning.
“Ram-Man! I didn’t think you were coming this morning,” Bryce grunted between pull-ups. “Sawyer said she was staying at yours last night. I figured you’d be working out at home… doing some thrusters,” he teased, dropping to the floor and vulgarly thrusting his hips back and forth.
Ethan rolled his eyes and shook his head. “She wasn’t feeling well last night,” he explained as he programmed his treadmill. “Said she had a headache and wanted to go home and sleep it off.”
“She gave you the headache excuse? Damn, man. What’d you do to piss her off?”
Ethan scrunched his brow together. “What? Nothing.” The thought of Sawyer making up an excuse not to spend the night together hadn’t even crossed his mind.
“That you know of…” Bryce chuckled.
He flipped him off, then started running at full speed on the treadmill, hoping to tune out the obnoxious scalpel jockey.
His gym buddy laughed in response. “I’m just giving you a hard time, man. In all seriousness, I’m sure it’s been hard for her to be back. She probably just reached her limit and needed to crash.”
Ethan nodded. Did she need space? Had he been hovering? Was he being overprotective? Or, attempting to keep their relationship out of the public eye, had he inadvertently hurt her feelings? The thoughts in his head whirred round and round like the rubber tread under his feet.
<><><><><><><><><><>
Dr. Ramsey rattled off medication adjustments to the nurse as they exited their patient’s room. He paused to let her type the orders into a tablet when, down the hall, a familiar voice caught his attention.
“Page me if you need anything, Esme. I’m going to take a quick lunch break,” Sawyer said to her intern.
He quickly reviewed and signed off on the patient’s chart and tried to catch up with her. When he reached the end of the hallway, he turned the corner and found Baz and Zaid engaged in conversation.
“Did you see which way Sawyer went?” Ethan interrupted, looking left and right at the intersection.
“No, she didn’t come this way,” the twins said simultaneously.
Ethan swirled back around, trying to figure out where the woman he was dating had disappeared. Then he noticed the door to a supply closet. Cracking the door open, the light from the hallway illuminated the small, dark space.
Sawyer sat on the floor, her head leaning against the wall with her eyes closed. The door softly scraped on the floor as Ethan pushed it further open, and she cracked one eye open. Seeing the familiar face, she quietly groaned, “Hi.” Stepping into the tight space, he closed the door behind him.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, flipping on the lights. When Sawyer winced, he quickly turned them off.
“Thank you,” she murmured.
She laid her head on his shoulder when he sank to the floor beside her.
“Another headache?” he guessed, taking her hand in his.
“Yeah.”
“How bad?”
“Like migraine bad.”
“And how long has this been going on? The headaches?”
She hesitated before answering, and Ethan knew he wouldn’t like the answer. “I’ve had them since the attack, but they’ve progressively worsened since being back at work.”
Ethan sighed deeply. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t want to bother you with it.”
“Dammit, Sawyer… I wish you would stop saying that.” Remembering her pain, he quickly tempered his frustration and squeezed her hand lovingly. “I care about you. I’m all in with you. And I want to be there for you. Aside from all that, I’m still technically your physician. You should have told me-”
“They’re just minor headaches…”
There was a buzz in his pocket. As he reached for his phone, Ethan rolled his eyes and mumbled about doctors being the worst patients. Dismissing the unimportant call, he continued his lecture. “They’re not so minor if you seek refuge in a dark closet. I won’t let you suffer like this. And Sawyer, we don’t know anything about the long-term effects of the poisoning or the antidote. You need to let me run some tests and ensure it’s nothing serious.”
“Okay, and you’re right. I’m sorry.”
“Come here.” Ethan guided Sawyer’s body down until her head rested in his lap. Carefully untangling the elastic from her hair, he combed his long fingers through it, then gently massaged her head.
“That feels good. Thank you,” Sawyer whispered.
He continued to rub her head through a fifteen-minute power nap before waking and convincing her to call it a day. “Go back to my place. It’s quiet, and you can soak in the tub. I’ll take over your patients.”
After dusting themselves off, Ethan opened the door for Sawyer to step out first. His chest bumped into her back when she suddenly froze at the threshold. Looking over her head, he saw a familiar face stepping out of the patient room on the other side of the hall. The nurse smirked. “Good for you, doctors.”
“It’s not what it looks like, Maureen,” Sawyer attempted to explain.
“Uh-huh,” she sang, walking away.
Sawyer turned to face Ethan. “I totally have sex hair right now, don’t I?”
He handed over her elastic hairband with a sympathetic half-smile and smoothed her teased hair down.
<><><><><><><><><><>
A few hours later, Ethan entered his quiet apartment. Following the soft yellow light that filtered through the half-open door of his bedroom, he found Sawyer curled up in bed, scrolling through her phone.
“Hey, Rookie, how are you feeling?” he asked, toeing out of his shoes and pulling off his tie.
“Hi. Much better.”
Lying down next to her, he tugged her close for a hug and kiss. “I got a couple of Maxalt samples from the pharma rep and sent a prescription to the hospital pharmacy. You should be able to pick it up in the morning.”
“Thank you,” Sawyer said, but her tone sounded defeated.
“I know you don’t like taking medication, Soe, but I think it will bring you some relief.” Ethan kissed her forehead and ran his fingers through her hair. “I can’t bear to see you in any more pain. Not after all that you’ve already endured.”
“Speaking of relief, can I ask you a question? As my doctor?”
“Of course.”
“I read a study earlier today, and the data suggested that sexual activity can lead to partial or complete headache relief in some migraine patients.”
“I’m familiar with the study.” Ethan smiled, knowing his patient well enough to see where this line of questioning was going.
“Of course you are…” She chuckled and rolled her eyes. “Well, I was wondering if you think it might be effective in my case.”
“Sex releases endorphins, which are natural painkillers,” Ethan explained. “So yes, it could very well ease your symptoms.”
Sawyer scrunched her face and rubbed her forehead. “Ooooh… ahhhh… my head is suddenly throbbing.”
Gesturing to where his pants were now feeling very tight, he smirked. “Yeah, so is mine. You rub mine, and I’ll rub yours?”
“Deal.”

i am feeling too much about our captain tonight
Jonny wonders what it says about the state of things when he gets the call from Brisson instead of Patrick.
The call is brief, professional. Awkward, stilted.
“There’s just–just so much to do. Things are really coming together pretty quickly. He’s actually in the air now. Going back home. He just want–I. I just wanted to make sure you heard from–you know–just heard about it, now that it’s official.” Pat pauses, gathering his thoughts, his courage. Then, more delicately, “He just wanted to make sure you knew, Jon. And he wanted to make sure you knew that this wasn’t...”  He trails off with another pregnant pause. “It’s just about hockey. Not..not anything else.”
When Jonny lets that go without reaction, Pat continues–slipping quickly back into agent mode after that momentary detour into something akin to friendship–going on to explain what’s going to happen, at least what the plans are right now. “The paint’s still a little wet but you get it.” Jonny doesn’t get it actually. He doesn’t get it at all. He wants to go back in time three minutes and decline this phone call.
He continues to listen with half an ear as Pat outlines the plans. When the calls are officially going to be made, what the teams are planning to post on their respective socials, the statements that are going to be released.
“We’re drafting some things for Patrick now. Want something for him to review when he lands. Kyle and Danny are both getting something together too.” Another of those loud silences. Jonny hears an inhale of breath and then, “We’ve got some time if...if you wanted to maybe...” Pat trails off and Jonny just lets the unspoken question hang for a moment. And then one more. “Just something to think about. Again, like I said, still plenty of time.”
But there isn’t really plenty of time, is there? Jonny thinks as Pat wraps up the call. There isn’t any time left at all.
The rest of the week feels like a dream––well, not really a dream. But not quite a nightmare either.
He walks from the kitchen into his office and forgets why he came in here in the first place. He then turns to go back only to pivot and head into his bedroom, only wonder why the fuck he’s in there now too.
He searches high and low for his phone to find it on the charging pad, right where he left it before hopping in the shower.
He drives all the way to Fifth Third only to remember that he actually left the house to pick up a grocery order.
He keeps losing count on his reps in the gym so he’s not even really sure if he’s hitting his performance goals but decides he doesn’t give a shit and just puts down the bar. He tries to breathe through a sudden pressure in his chest and behind his eyes and avoids making eye contact with the trainer he’s working with. When he feels like he can breathe freely again, he settles back down for another set and thinks about nothing but the rep count.
He goes to bed early just to spend most of the evening staring at his ceiling.
The days move on, simultaneously quicker and slower than usual, and the trade whispers turn into a roar.
He ignores calls and texts from his mother, his father, David, Dave, Sharpy, Duncan, and Crow.
Brisson sends him a text when more of the finer points have been finalized. Paint’s dry now, Jonny thinks. Brisson’s follow-up text has another questioning nudge about a statement but Jonny leaves him on read.
He waits for something from Patrick–a text, call, hell a fucking email, anything–and is sorely disappointed.
You should reach out, a traitorous part of his mind whispers and he viciously tells it to shut the fuck up as he increases the incline on the treadmill.
He wakes up too early from a terrible night’s sleep, reaching for someone who isn’t there. He hears an echo of laughter as he tries in vain to slip back into sleep. Good morning. The memory filters in, hazy and soft and warm. There’s a smile in those familiar blue eyes and Jonny can feel the joy in it. I know. It’s too early. Go back to sleep, babe. He throws off the covers with a curse and goes to take a shower. It’s quick and cold and he doesn’t think of anything at all.
He finally FaceTimes with Brent after the man threatens to come down and check on Jonny in person. His last text was a screenshot of an airline ticket order page and a lame dad joke about Jonny making an old man use such a significant part of his “fixed” income just because he couldn’t be bothered to answer the phone.
“What the fuck are you talking about? Fixed income,” Jonny demands as the call connects.
“I’m a retired man now, Jonny.” Brent smirks a little. “Gotta watch those pennies.”
Despite himself, Jonny snorts but tries to cover with, “Weak, man. That was weak.”
“Eh, not one of my best but–” Brent shrugs. “Got you to answer.”
“Yeah,” Jonny concedes with a sigh. “Guess it did.”
There’s a pause then and Jonny’s not entirely sure how to fill it so Brent does it for him.
He talks about Dayna and the kids. How coaching is going. How the extended family is fairing. In the middle of some story about Brent’s stoic father-in-law babysitting the girls and getting roped into playing dress-up, Jonny finds himself cracking a smile. It feels awkward on his face in a way he doesn’t want to think about too much.
Eventually their talk, as it always does, shifts back to hockey. They talk about the team a bit. Jonny rants probably more than he should about the state of the locker room. The front office. The press. The fans. The whole fucking mess of the season.
Jonny doesn’t talk about his health; Brent brings it up anyway. “You know I understand, Jonny. I understand what it’s like when your body just won’t cooperate anymore.”
It’s not the same, Jonny wants to snap but he knows it’s true–at least, it’s partly true in a way. They trained alongside each other before the bubble and Jonny saw just how much Brent wanted and how little his body cared about that. But, Brent’s body stopped cooperating with him after injuries. He had something he could point to, something tangible. He had the scars he could show if he wanted; he had something everyone could see and understand and sympathize with.
Some days Jonny feels like no one believes him and he doesn’t know how to make them understand. Don’t they know him by now? Don’t they see him at all? Haven’t they all watched how much of his body and soul he’s given this sport? How much of his heart he’s given to this team? Don’t they know he’d be in the lineup in a heartbeat if he could? Can’t they see how much he’d give up just to be able to make magic on ice again? Don’t they know he’d sacrifice anything and everything he had and more just to hear them cheer to Chelsea Dagger one more time?
Jonny doesn’t talk about Patrick. Brent brings him up anyway. “Jonny, you know it’s not personal, right? You know it’s just about hockey. You know it’s not–not about anything else.”
Why the fuck does everyone keep saying that? Of course it’s fucking personal, Jonny wants to lash out with but he knows that, again, Brent’s probably more right than wrong. More than anyone else, Brent nearly knows all there is to know about the story of Jonny and Patrick. He was there for the glorious beginning and the miserable end and every step along the way. Brent knows that, despite the mess it was at the end, Patrick wouldn’t do something like this to Jonny to be personal. He knows Patrick wouldn’t ever twist the knife in this deeply. And, on some level, Jonny knows it too. He’s just not ready to rise to quite that level just yet. This level is fine, thank you very much and he’s planning on staying a little while.
When Jonny doesn’t offer anything in response, Brent soldiers on. “Have you reached out to him at all?”
“...no.”
A sigh. “Are you going to?”
“...no.”
Another sigh. “Jon.”
“What?” Jonny snaps.
He doesn’t understand why this is his problem. He’s not the fucking chicken shit who made their agent make the call. He’s not the coward in this.
Also, he’s not the one leaving. Patrick’s the one jumping ship and abandoning him. Patrick’s the one leaving him alone with a bunch of glorified strangers in a locker room that doesn’t feel like his anymore. Patrick’s the one leaving him behind in a city that used to fête them both like kings and now treats Jonny like an uninvited house guest overstaying his limited welcome.
So what if their relationship had burned out in a fiery mess of devastating heartbreak? And, so, yeah, maybe Jonny had kinda, sorta, maybe been the one who’d fucked things up between them before. But he’d done that for Patrick’s own good. How could Pat still not understand that? Jon hadn't understood what the fuck was happening to him and couldn’t play anymore and was taking the season off and he didn’t want to hold Patrick back. That’s all it was supposed to be. He was just going to take some time, sort this shit out, and then everything was going to be fine again. It was never going to be forever. They were going to get it back. Are. They are going to get it back.
Doesn’t Patrick know that? Doesn’t he see? Doesn’t he know that the pair of them are always going to find each other again? Why can’t he see that? Why has he forgotten? Jonny hasn’t forgotten. Jonny knows they are it for each other. He knows they were solid once and will be solid again. He knows he fucked them up before but that they are going to find their way back together again. But that can’t happen if Patrick leaves. Hockey had been the miraculous catalyst that brought them together the first time and it was going to do it again, Jon just knows it. He fucking knows it. How the fuck is hockey going to be the thing that helps them bridge the fractured mess of their relationship and find their way back to each other if Patrick goes to fucking New York to play with the fucking Rangers.
“Jon.” Brent’s face on his screen is a picture of patience and understanding. Jonny wishes Brent was standing in front of him right now so he could punch him for it.
“Pat’s the one leaving,” Jonny all but spits out. He’s said it. He can’t believe he said it. “Pat’s the one who decided to get out and didn’t have the balls to even fucking text me about it.” He lets out a sigh and then, “I don’t understand why I have to be the fucking ‘bigger person’ in this.”
Brent waits a beat, considering. “Because you have to, Jonny.” At Jonny’s blank stare, he simply repeats it, “You just have to.”
Jonny opens his mouth but Brent’s quicker. “I know,” he instantly agrees. “I know. It’s all fucking bullshit. It’s fucking low he had Brisson call you. It’s bullshit that management put either of you in this position and you’re stuck in a rebuild you didn’t sign up for.”
Brent takes a beat and waits for Jonny’s eyes to meet his. “And it sucks that you’re out right now. I know you want to be out there playing more than anything. It sucks that you’re gonna come back to a room without him in it. It all just fucking sucks, Jon. But you have to be the bigger person right now. You just–” He shrugs. “You just do.”
Jonny doesn’t really think that the argument that he has to be the bigger person because he just has to is as compelling an argument as Brent seems to think it is but he lets it go. He nods once and makes a few noises of agreement and they wrap up their call.
He lets Brent’s words stew in the back of his mind as mindlessly browses Netflix before giving up and deciding to just start dinner early. As he’s watching onions brown, he decides that he can almost understand Pat asking Brisson to make the call. If Patrick had been the one to basically pull a “it’s not you, it’s me” on him and then shut his phone off for six months, Jon’s not sure if he would want to call him either.
He eats his dinner standing in the kitchen, because pulling out one of the stools or heading to the couch seems like entirely too much work, and flips on the TV. He watches the NHL Network’s talking heads discuss the latest leak in the Kane trade news and wonders why they even bother pretending like they don’t already know what’s going to happen and when. He’s pretty sure Brisson has already sent all the forthcoming statements to the producers already. The facade they are putting up that they are still not 100% sure what’s happening is laughable.
Jonny flips off the TV, puts his few dishes into the sink, and pulls out his phone. He’s pretty sure Brent’s argument is flawed but he also knows that Brent’s advice hasn’t ever really steered him off course before. He opens his messages and types up something quick and to the point. He reads it once and then makes himself send it before overthinking it too much.
not really sure what to say but just hope you know that ill always be on your side. you were always the best in any locker room and youll kill it with them. always rooting for you. go all the way this year. for the both of us
He reads it once more and then quickly adds,
you were the best part of all of this.
There, Jonny thinks as he swipes the app closed and locks his phone. Done.
He goes to turn on the faucet to start cleaning up when his phone buzzes.
thx jonny
i know it was a bitch move to have bris call you.
Jon stares at his phone and debates how he wants to respond when the composition bubble appears. It floats in and away for what feels like hours before another message comes through.
i just didn’t know if i could through with it if i talked to you first and i think i have to try jonny. i have to
Jon’s response is quick.
i know you do. you should do it. you deserve it.
And then he adds,
i meant it peeks. youre gonna kill it. you and breadman are gonna be magic out there
More of the bubbles. we’ll see.
Jonny waits. He's not really sure if that message needs a response. He decides it doesn’t and moves to slip his phone away when another message buzzes in.
you are the best part for me too
Jonny stares at the message for far too long before locking his phone and putting it away.
He turns on the faucet to start his dishes and thinks that he may have been wrong earlier.
Maybe there is plenty of time left after all.

I woke up an hour late but fortunately work is still slow & I’m still working from home until the semester starts. So I got up, did my chores (feed the dog, water the potted potatoes, lettuce, garlic, & herbs, fed my pea puffer), got dressed, & hopped on the treadmill before my brain could register what I was doing lol. I put on my favorite upbeat songs & jog-danced until I felt myself gassing out, walked to cool down, lifted some kettle bells, did some back lifts, crunches, cooled down, & hopped in the shower. It only took the hour I overslept which is good to know! I’m now combing through emails in my robe with an iced decaf coffee.
Things are already starting to pick up at work & im not really looking forward to the semester starting. I’m not taking a class this time around so it’s just work work work & a huge review visit is looming—for which I am responsible for much of the minutia. But this weekend we’re going to a music festival with some friends & I have a visit back to Texas before things really hit the fan so I’m happy for that. Anyway, back to the grind.

Life is one ongoing evolving structure
From a January 9, 1991 presume written July 9, 1990
The structures set up in life’s first half serve me well in Life’s second half:
Jogging, dancing, friends, meditation, journal writing review, trial work, experiencing feeling, love of good coffee and wine, hospice work, home ownership, art collage painting, reading, deep conversation, movies , laughter at the ridiculous
End of this part of the presume
Note:
A presume is a journal entry written as if it were 6 months in the future from the date it is actually written. In the entry you imagine events that will happen in that time span. It's a way to project out current trajectories. It’s amazing how much of it comes close to what really happens.
I was 35 when I wrote the above presume.
Now, at age 68, I’d have to say that the life  structure set up at 35 is not the structure of my life  today.
I no longer jog or dance. Instead, I lift weights in the gym, treadmill and open water swim in the ocean.  Journal writing review has evolved into curating journal entries to be include in a journal based book and including entries in a blog. I still love coffee, but don’t drink alcohol. I left hospice work in 1995, but was present for my partner Jim’s death as well as the death of my father and recently for the death of my sister.  I have not done a collage painting for decades., although, I love the paintings I did 30 years ago and have them hanging in my house. They bring back the warm richness of that time.  I rarely watch movies now.
I’d say now that life doesn’t have a first and a second half. Life is one ongoing evolving structure. It’s goal seems to be a deeper understanding of what it is to be.

2024 New Years Resolutions
1. Get Fit
My main goal for 2024 now that Ive started HRT is to gain some muscle mass. Im at my ideal weight, but I want to start converting some of this fat into muscle!
I have a treadmill at home, but I also wanted to get an adjustable weight set. Basically anything to avoid a gym membership right now
2. Master Studies
In 2023 I began to oil paint. I haven’t done much and I’ve practically scrapped all the ones I’ve started while just messing around, but in 2024 I want to focus on trying to do a master study every month. These will be in a range of mediums!
During the hot months (2/3 of the year where I live) I cant really safely use my oil painting area.
During these months the studies will likely be in acrylic or digital so I can work in an environment that wont fry me lol.
I keep seeing this set on the tiktok shop, and the other highly reviewed things Ive gotten have worked really well for me! So im probably going to get it once i have some money saved up since my current acrylic set is very old and starting to die on me.
All commissions I get going forward will be dedicated towards these two goals!
Once i have enough to get my weights, everything else past that will go directly to art supplies.
I currently work part time, so most of that money goes towards gas, food, my car repairs, and other life essentials. My commission work is extra income that directly goes into being able to create more art, especially more traditional art!
$0/300 goal
DM for commission inquiries! Digital, traditional, and physical merch!

Okay, I'm ready to discuss some goals I would like to achieve, and the plans I've put together to complete them.
I want to preface this by saying that these are relaxed and flexible, and I'm cool with reassessing this periodically throughout the year. I have four main goals that are not overly time restrictive, and then steps to assist with completing those. I'll break these down further into smaller goal periods throughout the year, and these are also the times that I'll be reassessing. That said,
2024ish goals
Be able to hike and walk around comfortably and with ease by the time I go overseas this year.
Increase daily steps - aim for an average of 6k per day by the end of Jan, then reassess.
Add in treadmill walks - clear area around treadmill - keep walking shoes and clothes accessible
Get a fitness tracker - completed 8/1/23
Walk my foster dog more - measure him for a new harness to make it easier for my back so it doesn't always fall on Chris - walk at state forests with Chris and Henry
Add in other movement, i.e. - strength training, especially for core and lower body - yoga/stretching/mobility/recovery - swimming - anything else that appeals to me
See physio routinely
Get massages periodically
Complete certificate IV in Learning Design & Facilitation by the end of the year.
Set aside time weekly to work on the course
Keep course material organised and accessible
Attend all training days
Make a plan and set deadlines for specific tasks
Declutter and style home
Declutter: - set aside time each week to do some decluttering - work with small sections at a time, allow flexibility - get help when overwhelmed
Organise: - review current organisation systems - research new systems/approaches/resources, and implement the ones that would work for me - create a cleaning/organising routine that is spoonie friendly
Style - find overall desired aesthetic and specific inspiration for each room/area - figure out how to make things we have work for our space and designs - including upcycling where appropriate - DIY/secondhand for things that I can, buy new things if necessary
Write a book
Schedule time weekly for writing - use this time for all writing related tasks, instead of becoming overwhelmed
Make a plan for upcoming projects, including: - structure/framework - genre - synopsis - audience - timelines - publishing plans
Finish first draft before editing/rewriting
Schedule time to read, watch, listen to media and explore different genres, etc
Work on social media writing profiles

Owner-Training: Notes made simple.
Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE organizing & tracking stuff (tbh it’s one of my favorite hobbies). But 2022 hit me HARD!
So out of all the different charts & paperwork I used for owner-training here is what actually stuck. Feel free to print them out <3
1) Daily Check-In
The columns are for morning, afternoon & evening.
I’ll write a short descriptor to represent the activity (10m treadmill, 1hr walk, latency training, PA @ Costco, Vet-thyroid, etc)
For training sessions I’ll grade it on a scale of 1-10. 5 being “as expected” 6+ for exceeding expectations and below 5 means we need to lower our training criteria so it’s not hard or frustrating for either of us. So an example might be “Latency Training (6)”
I’ve also been trying to practice our recall more regularly, so I just write an R in the box next to each column for recall.
Tumblr media
2) Monthly Summery
At the end of the month I’ll look back at my quick notes & tumblr posts and make a summery for each section. (I usually put the Month & Year in the rectangle at the top right)
VET // I keep all of her vet receipts in a folder and I’ll list the visits, what they were for and what they cost. I also include medication notes if she had any side effects from a medication so I know to tell the vet next time.
BEHAVIOR // This is stuff like any reactivity, gear shyness, husbandry training, etc
BASIC OBEDIENCE // If I trained any new cues I’ll add it here but it’s also good for noting things that need to be worked on, such as a latency issue when working on different surfaces or maybe a placement issue with heel, sit, etc.
SERVICE TASKS // Again, note any new tasks added and make comments about known tasks that need improvement.
PUBLIC ACCESS // I’ll usually just write down the store and list a few things that need work, such as “Costco - air scenting”
NOTES // I use this for any overflow from the other sessions or for something I want to remember but doesn’t really fit into any of the categories.
SUMMERY // After I write all the other categories I review the notes and make a summery for the whole month. It doesn’t seem like much but having a month to month summery since I brought her home is actually super helpful in watching for trends in her health & behavior.

How to Choose the Right Gym Equipment for Your Home Gym
Tumblr media
Creating a home gym is a powerful step towards achieving your fitness goals, offering convenience and flexibility in your workout routine. However, choosing the right gym equipment for your home can be a daunting task, especially with the multitude of options available in the market. Whether you're looking to build strength, improve cardiovascular fitness, or simply stay active, making informed decisions about the equipment you invest in is crucial.
In this comprehensive guide, we'll walk you through the essential steps to help you select the perfect home gym equipment tailored to your needs, space, and budget. From assessing your fitness goals to evaluating available space and considering factors like budget, versatility, and safety, we'll cover it all. By the end of this blog, you'll be well-equipped to create a personalized and effective home gym that motivates you to stay on track with your fitness journey. So, let's dive in and transform your home into the ultimate workout haven!
Tips to Choose the Right Gym Equipment for Your Home Gym
Choosing the right gym equipment for your home gym is essential to create an effective and enjoyable workout space. Here are some steps to help you make informed decisions when selecting home gym equipment:
Assess Your Fitness Goals:
Determine your fitness objectives, whether it's strength training, cardiovascular fitness, weight loss, or a combination of these.
Consider your workout preferences and the types of exercises you enjoy.
Allocate a Budget:
Set a budget for your home gym equipment. This will help you narrow down your options and prevent overspending.
Evaluate Available Space:
Measure the available space in your home gym area to ensure that the equipment you choose fits comfortably.
Prioritize Essential Equipment:
Start with the basics, such as a workout bench, dumbbells or kettlebells, and resistance bands. These versatile items can support a wide range of exercises.
Consider Cardiovascular Equipment:
Depending on your goals and preferences, consider adding cardiovascular equipment like a treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical machine, or rowing machine.
Compact options like foldable treadmills or under-desk ellipticals are suitable for smaller spaces.
Explore Multi-Functional Equipment:
Look for multi-functional equipment, such as power racks or home gyms, which can accommodate various exercises in one unit.
Research Brands and Suppliers:
Research reputable gym equipment brands and suppliers. Read reviews and seek recommendations from fitness enthusiasts.
Check for warranties and customer support to ensure you have options if issues arise.
Test the Equipment (if possible):
If you have the opportunity, test the equipment in person at a store or gym to ensure it meets your comfort and usability criteria.
Consider Used Gym Equipment:
If you're on a tight budget, consider buying used gym equipment. Make sure it's in good condition and from a reliable source.
Ensure Safety Features:
Safety should be a priority. Ensure that the equipment you choose has safety features like safety locks, sturdy construction, and non-slip surfaces.
Plan for Accessories and Maintenance:
Don't forget to budget for accessories such as mats, mirrors, and storage solutions.
Plan for regular maintenance to keep your equipment in good working order.
Create a Well-Balanced Setup:
Aim for a well-balanced home gym setup that allows you to target different muscle groups and engage in various types of workouts.
Seek Expert Advice:
If you're unsure about your choices, consider consulting with a fitness trainer or expert who can provide personalized recommendations based on your goals and needs.
Start Small and Expand Over Time:
You don't need to buy all your equipment at once. Start with the essentials and gradually expand your home gym as your fitness journey progresses.
Personalize Your Space:
Make your home gym motivating and comfortable by adding personal touches like inspirational posters, music, and good lighting.
Remember that the right gym equipment for your home gym should align with your fitness goals, space, and budget. By carefully considering these factors and doing your research, you can create a home gym that helps you achieve your fitness objectives effectively and sustainably.

Kinda getting tired of TikTok selling me things
So I'm just going to put a reminder to myself and anyone who needs it —
A clean home brings happiness, not cleaning products
Clothes that fit right bring happiness, not microtrends
A job that suits your needs brings happiness, not a 5to9 before your 9to5
De-influencing is just a new way of selling products with "honest" reviews
Physical health brings happiness, not a new workout sets and walking treadmills
Romanticizing your life means meeting your needs and being grateful for what you have, not buying products to make those needs feel special
