Tom Cavanagh as Council of Wells and Eobard Thawne in season 7 of The Flash 🤍
(This one really hurt, because it's from the most painful season when they all disappeared 😞)

John Fox is such an interesting character because he and Wally are direct parallels to Eobard and Barry. Yet the fact that John never became a Reverse Flash, and instead carried on the Flash legacy, speaks to Wally’s compassionate and begrudgingly forgiving nature.
So first the parallels.
John Fox was born in the far off future where he grew up idolizing the Flash. The Flash was his hero, his savior. When Fox's city was being threatened Fox decided that only the Flash could save them and time travelled to get help from a Flash. John wasn't able to get help but he did acquire superspeed himself after time traveling. John donned the name ‘The Flash’ and created a Flash suit out of Flash suits he stole from the Flash museum. John Fox managed to save the future version of Central City and he got his first taste of being a hero.
Already the parallels to Eobard are obvious. The Flash obsession, the time travel, trying to be the Flash, ect. The only notable difference thus far is that Eobard had to invent crime to ‘fight’ when he was attempting to be the Flash and John had a legit crisis to combat. This legitimate need for a Flash combined with John’s willingness to step up would make him more of a Wally parallel than an Eobard parallel but unfortunately for him it didn’t last long. Due to future technology Fox became redundant. There was no need for a Flash and he was restricted to permanent guard duty at the Flash museum.
Tumblr media
Taking away the need for a Flash made him desperate to go back in time and be a hero again. When an amnesic Wally West arrived in his century Fox saw his chance. He, following in Eobard’s footsteps, replaced Wally as the Flash. John went so far as to fall in love with Linda and strain her lightning rod connection with Wally, which trapped him in the speedforce. This was known information to John Fox. He was aware that Linda’s hope and love was Wally’s only chance at returning. What John did was akin to attempted murder. John wanted Wally's life. He lived in his house, donned his name and uniform, did his job and stole his girlfriend. He killed Wally for it. It’s really not hard to connect this behavior to Eobard who has tried to replace Barry multiple times in the past.
Fox is also not a great Flash. He’s skittish. Unsure and nervous. He’s playing the part of a hero rather than actually being one. Whereas Eobard was too aggressive as the Flash, John was too timid. Both, ultimately, were poor imitations of the originals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is where the similarities stop. While Barry reacted to Eobard with righteous fury, Wally reacted with anger, some sarcasm and then basically said ‘goddammit John you are helping me fix this mess or we are going to die trying’. When faced with a man who attempted to kill him and take over his life, Wally could only punch the man and be mildly snippy with him. Wally didn't want Fox to be an enemy. Wally saw potential in him. Wally saw the good man and hero Fox could be.
Tumblr media
So Wally walked John through being a hero. He made Fox fix his mistakes, taught Fox how to save the day and by the end of it Wally ended up forgiving him. He gave John his stamp of approval, called him a Flash and sent him on his way.
This was a play by play on how to create a Reverse Flash. This was the recipe. John, by all means, should have been a villain. But Wally isn’t Barry. They are different people and they react in different ways. Wally is driven by the need to see the inherent good in people. He will always give people a second chance and, because of that, against all odds, Wally walked out of there with John Fox as a trusted friend and a Flash in his own right.

please please lets talk about how barry and hunter percieve thawne and his relationship with barry. like im sure barry had no idea of thawnes crush on him (along with what even was his motivation in general before rs) like up until 'the only time' confession and him calling thawne pathetic for that is his live reaction to this realization under the influence of negative speed force. and we KNOW he knows at the very least after that because of these mfs!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
they are fear constructs and they are based on barrys fears!!! THEY ACT EVEN FUCKING GAYER AND CREEPIER THAN THE ORIGINAL ONE!!!
and barry oh poor sweet barry. he had no idea that this!
Tumblr media
was thawne meaning time with barry and barry alone! and barry didnt fucking see that! barry related to these words because they reminded him of his parents and naturally he supports The 25th Century Flash! AND THAWNE HEARS THAT 'I UNDERSTAND' AND THINKS THAT BARRY UNDERSTOOD EXACTLY WHAT HE MEANT!! THAT BARRY FEELS THE VERY SAME FOR HIM!!! JUST LIKE HE IMAGINED ALL THESE YEARS!!! AND NEVER QUESTIONS THAT CONCLUSION!!! AND LATER CALLS BARRY A LIAR FOR THAT!!! FOR NEVER FEELING THE SAME DESIRE TO SPEND TIME TOGETHER WHICH BARRY NEVER ACTUALLY IMPLIED!!!!
and what about hunter? oh he saw the events of running scared alright. and more, he has an unlimited access to the info about thawne, both personal experience and flash museum archives. he relates to him, he finds fucking comfort in him and his story. he is just like me fr! thawne is his poor little meow meow too and hunter takes it so much more serious than i do due to percieving him as Tragedy Personified!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in fact thawnes death in running scared fucks him up so badly he gives up his ideals and beliefs about flashes in favor of 'they are unfixable and deserve only to suffer'. besides, hes a profiler, he studied psychiatry. like, that guy should understand thawnes character deeply, right?
Tumblr media
..............
hunter. hunter my sweet summer child i dont know how to tell you. this is SO not the reason thawne kept it.
he is the BIGGEST (and the only) fan thawne ever had. he knows about him SO MUCH and yet he straight up cannot figure out the most obvious thing about him because he PROJECTS HIS OWN ISSUES AND BELIEFS ABOUT FLASHES ONTO HIM AND REFUSES TO THINK FURTHER. yall im fucking crying. no comments.
THE CLOSET IS GLASS AND NO ONE FUCKING SEES THROUGH AND I AM PERFECTLY NORMAL ABOUT IT!!!!!!

Part 3 of me showing how DC's tend to be more sympathetic or at least more fun (based on me playing Lego DC Supervillians). Turns out our 4 villians now are mostly all Green Arrow or Flash rogues (so they probably all showed up in the arrowverse).
Malcolm Merlyn: Okay, I know very little about Merlyn. What I do know makes him not seem super sympathetic. But his wikipedia page mentions that on the Arrow tv show (which his game version is modelled after) he becomes an assassin to get revenge for his dead wife or something. And even though (I think it implied) he then abandons his real family in his revenge quest, it all starts from a place of sympathy and tragedy.
Captain Cold: Based on his wikipedia page, most of his crimes are non-lethal. And his origin story involved childhood abuse. The man's got a moral compass. Also, his actor on the flash tv show has autism (I think). So now I'm just going to headcanon that the character does too, because that makes him even more relatable and sympathetic.
Heat-Wave: A pyromaniac who actually knows he's got a problem. At least that's what wikipedia implied. And that's sympathetic. The man loves fire to an unhealthy degree, but he knows it's not healthy. That's tragic and sympathetic, in my opinion.
Reverse-Flash (Eobard Thawne): I read his DC Rebirth origin on wikipedia. And my god, the thing is tragic. Some choice quotes: "An only child when his parents died in an accident, Thawne grew up obsessed with the Flash. After Barry defeats him and has him arrested, Thawne promises to rehabilitate himself, to that end undergoing therapy and being a professor. However, he is enraged after he witnesses Barry give Wally West a talk on how every second is a gift, similar to one that Barry gave him, and realises that he wasn't treated specially by Barry." The man was lonely and just wanted some damn attention! But nobody gave it to him! My god, that's tragic!

Brain Curd #53
Brain Curds are lightly edited flash fiction - practically first drafts - posted daily and sometimes written with the express intention of being terrible… but, you know, in an endearing way. Please enjoy.
Roger sat at the kitchen table opposite his wife, as he drank coffee and read his newspaper. Ethel also drank coffee, but used a straw to avoid messing up her bright red lipstick.
“Some weather we’re having,” Roger said, by reflex. There really wasn’t much weather at all down in the bomb shelter, and it was unlikely there was any up above either. He folded up the newspaper - which was now over a year old - and set it next to his coffee.
All of a sudden, the earth shook and a deluge of rocks and dirt came from the ceiling, collapsing the table and dividing it right through the middle. The couple was separated.
Roger took a sip of his coffee and called out for his wife. “Ethel, are you alright over there?”
“Yes, I’m quite fine, Roger. And you?”
“Can’t complain, really.”
“That’s good.”
He walked up to the pile of rubble and poked at it. “I really don’t see these rocks moving, frankly.”
“Can you try?”
He examined the wall of boulders up and down. “No.”
“How disappointing.”
“It’s just as well, though, isn’t it? Very convenient that this happened to split us up into even halves of the bunker. You’ve all the food you need, as do I. Same goes for water.”
“Yes, that is fortuitous.”
“It hardly seems worth the effort to move these things. Now that I think of it - how many of the kids do you have over there?”
She yelled out. “Petey, Clarissa, Filbert?” Two children walked into the room from the doorway behind her. “Two of them.”
“That’s good,” Roger replied. “Looks like I have Petey over here. Not entirely an even split, but he’s the oldest and I do have the dog as well.”
“This is going splendidly.”
“Agreed, my dear. Next I think we should discuss finances.”
“Finances?”
“Yes, I’m not quite sure money is worth anything at this point, but we ought to cover all our bases.”
“Half and half seems fair.”
“Agreed. I’ll ask my attorney to draw up the papers and fax them over. Oh -” he snapped his fingers. “Shoot. You don’t have a fax machine on that side.”
“No trouble, I’ve found a hole I can fit my arm through.” She stuck her arm in the hole and waved at Roger.
“You can’t see me, but I am waving back,” Roger said while lighting a cigarette.
“No you aren’t, I also found a hole that I can see through.”
“Please, Ethel, please, we shouldn’t argue in front of the kids.”
“Oh, you’re right, Roger.”
“Hmmm…” he paced about the room. “You know, we’ve only been separated for about two minutes at this point. Perhaps divorce is premature.”
“I hardly think so,” Ethel replied. “To be honest with you, Roger, I’ve already found someone else.”
“You have?”
“That’s right.”
“Who is he?”
“Your attorney, of course.”
“Right. I forgot he was staying over. Unfortunately, this would seem to be a conflict of interest. I’ll need to find a new attorney.” Roger looked at the son he’d be retaining custody of. “Petey, what was it that you’ve been studying?”
“Family law.”
“Perfect. Ethel, I’ve found new representation, but the divorce will have to wait until he can pass the bar exam.”
“I can wait.”
“Good, good. Well, I suppose this is all working out fairly well.” He went to put out his cigarette, but realized something was missing. “Damn. Do you happen to have the ashtray on your side?”
“I do.”
“Pass it over, will you?”
Ethel picked it up from the table and tried to fit it through her arm hole, but it was too big. She sighed, said “just a moment,” and walked out of the dining room. She walked for a minute around the corner and set it on the table in front of Roger.
“Thank you, dear.”
“Don’t mention it.”

After rewatching some of CW’s Flash I have a question:
How weak were original timeline Flash and Reverse Flash?
In the current timeline of Earth Prime, Eobard never really reminisces of his original Barry, and never mentions if he and the current Barry Allen are stronger or weaker than they were before Thawne killed Nora Allen.
In general, Thawne’s timeline is weird without watching any videos that fully explain it. How was original Barry’s life before affecting Thawne’s life? He was the Flash for 4 years before the original crisis that happened in 2024, but apparently went into the future to ruin Eobard’s life.
How would that affect the other shows in an in-universe way? Like team arrow and the legends. How did Supergirl’s world of Earth 38 play a role in this? Thawne said he once fought Superman in the future. He said that to supergirl specifically, meaning he knew of Earth 38, it’s timeline, and other Earths. Who were the original members of the Justice League, since Gideon stated that Flash was a founding member in the original (and current) timeline. Were the Legends of Tomorrow in the original timeline? Since after flashpoint and season 2 of the Legends, Eobard clearly knew about them. What about the names Eobard mentioned to Barry and Nora West-Allen in season 5.
In ‘Flashpoint’ a post-season 3 Barry was able to defeat a quote un quote “prime” Reverse Flash. And was able to then later build a prison that stopped Thawnes’ speed. Also how did the Particle accelerator explode if Harrison Wells was Thawne. It took him until 2024 to do so in the original timeline.
In the original Nora West-Allen timeline, who captured Thawne, since his arrest was 10 years after Barry’s disappearance during the original crisis? Did Wally become faster than the both of them and capture him? Did Supergirl and Superman? Did the Legends or the original Justice League?
These are just a bunch of questions I’ve had in my head for a while.
