@naamahdarling I wish I didn’t know this, but the immigrant criminals eating our pets is from a fake story out of Ohio that Haitian immigrants are stealing and barbecuing peoples pets in public, and even alleges that people have been arrested. It’s been repeated by JD Vance, and a bunch of other high-profile Republicans who are gleefully sharing gross memes even after it has been repeatedly debunked by most of the state of Ohio. Here is a footnoted story from Philip DeFranco (the little red ovals next to the quotes are where the quote comes from, so you can look them up.) It’s grim.

Oh and before anyone comes at me saying “you are silencing her” or whatever the hell you like to tell yourself, here’s what I think:
«Taking down baseless, unproven allegations on TikTok/YT isn’t about “silencing victims”... it’s about protecting individuals from the chaos of mob mentality and the very real consequences of unfounded accusations. Posting allegations online, without evidence or due process, turns justice into a popularity contest where public opinion becomes more powerful than the truth. This irresponsible behavior doesn't just harm the accused but fuels online harassment, character assassination, and irreversible damage to reputations. […] People’s lives, careers, and mental health can be severely impacted based on speculation alone. Liam got so much online bullying and harassment. […] It’s reckless to call for public judgment when the facts haven’t been examined in any structured, legitimate way. Sending a C&D letter to silence him… then asking why he won't speak? Really? I call that manipulation at the finest. Demanding that she take down the videos is not about “silencing” anyone; it’s about ensuring that the truth isn’t drowned out by hearsay. When unproven allegations take center stage, it sends a message that public accusations hold more weight than justice itself. And are we ok with that? NO! Victims deserve to be heard, but in a way that’s responsible, FAIR (so two sides are heard not just one), and legally sound». (via X).

I've screamed about this to anyone who will listen, but every single year, without fail, there is a devastating natural disaster in the South that triggers the most callous commentary from so-called liberal and progressive circles and I am so sick of it. Whole towns in Western North Carolina no longer exist. Roads have dropped off into chasms. People do not have power or fresh water. Aid can only be delivered by air. There is no accurate death toll yet because the whole region is inaccessible. Western North Carolina is devastated and it will never look the same. "Why didn't they evacuate?" People couldn't evacuate because they were given a 12 hour notice of how bad the storm was going to be. Where do you go? You can't go west or south. The storm is blowing through there too. You could go north or east, but only if you can afford it. Did y'all know that hotels jack up their prices when there's a hurricane evacuation? That you have to sit in hours of traffic because everyone else who can is doing the same thing? Evacuating, even preparing, is a luxury that not all can afford. Especially not in Appalachia, which continues to be underserved by both Democrat and Republican governments. "They should have been prepared."
Hurricanes are not supposed to blow into Appalachia. This was not supposed to happen. Why would I prepare for a hurricane when I live six hours inland? I'm used to mudslides and snowstorms. But a hurricane? Climate change has exacerbated the severity and frequency of these storms, so what was once considered a once-in-a-lifetime storm is now the terrifying reality in places where this should not occur. I live in central NC where even with the rare category hurricane that we get, we are also not prepared to handle it the same way the coast is. That isn't a failure on the individual-- it's the failure of a bipartisan government that has refused to accommodate for climate change and the threats it poses to everyone. "They voted for Trump." North Carolina is a swing state. We have a Democrat governor and a Republican supermajority in our Congress. It will be one of the most important states in the 2024 election. Of course, I bet the people saying this didn't know or care about the realities of NC politics; they know it's in the South so of course it's Trump country. And don't get me wrong-- western NC is red on a map with the exception of the Asheville. But BIPOC, LGBT+, poor people, otherwise marginalized people, etc., live in every part of the red South. There are states in the South that are predominantly Black. Our states are gerrymandered. Voter suppression still exists. These are the legacies of white supremacy that we are still trying to work through and improve. You're condemning us to suffer for something we didn't choose. We live here too. And honestly? If you believe someone deserves to drown in a flood because of how they voted, I think you are a bad person. We do not share the same progressive values.
I am so tired of seeing the same thing happen over and over again. Regional elitism still exists in this country and y'all still see the South as a malignant growth that should be cut off, that should be abandoned every time a hurricane or tornado or other disaster devastates us. I will never forget how y'all said Texas deserved to freeze over. I will never forget how y'all said North Carolina deserved to drown.

Hey baby boy. You good? You reblogged the ‘ibuprofen, blunt, killing myself can’t fix’ post like 6 times
i am unfortunately cursed with the caring about people gene so every weekend out of the kindness of my heart I drive 240 miles north to my fathers restaurant to go help him out. Unfortunately being a gay stealth trans line cook in an extremely conservative area is what one might call "nervewracking" on occasion and i cope by envisioning looney toons level of catastrophe being enacted on the building. i do think this may have also been shortly after finding out im going to have to come up with about a thousand dollars out of thin air because our landlord is a predator

I hope he, a journalists' legal group, and the ACLU sue them for everything they are worth. They can cry "it was a mistake" all they want. It was no mistake. It was deliberate, because they knew who he was.

(Long Post...LATimes) Trump administration ends funding for legal representation of 26,000 migrant children
By Clara HarterStaff Writer
March 21, 2025 11:43 PM PT
Tumblr media
Children and adults wait in lines for donated food at a makeshift camp for migrants near the U.S.-Mexico border on May 14, 2021, in Reynosa, Mexico.
(Gregory Bull / Associated Press)
The Trump administration on Friday ended a federal contract that provides legal representation to nearly 26,000 migrant children who entered the United States without a parent or guardian, a move immigration attorneys say will leave children vulnerable to rapid deportation.
The contract provided funding for attorneys to represent minors who are under the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement — at least 4,000 of whom reside in California — in immigration court.
Many of these children do not read or speak in English, and some are too young to read or speak at all, according to Joel Frost-Tift, an immigration attorney with Public Counsel.
“It’s going to have a devastating effect on our clients,” Frost-Tift said. “Immigrants are five to six times more likely to succeed in their case if they’re represented by an attorney, so if they lose representation, that’s going to be really damaging for their case.”
Public Counsel currently represents around 200 unaccompanied migrant children in Southern California. Frost-Tift said attorneys will continue to fulfill their ethical duty to assist with these cases for now, but without new funding it’s unclear how long they will be able to do so.
It’s a quandary that around 100 legal aid organizations across the country now find themselves in after learning that the federal contract for children who cross the border without a guardian — which was up for renewal on March 29 — was terminated.
Last month the Trump administration temporarily halted all work completed under this contract. Days later, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reversed that decision.
Now many legal organizations are urging the Trump administration to once again reverse course.
“The administration’s decision to end these services undermines due process, disproportionately impacts vulnerable children, and puts children who have already experienced severe trauma at risk for further irreparable harm or exploitation,” Shaina Aber, executive director of the Acacia Center for Justice, said in a statement. “We urge the administration to reverse this decision.”
The Acacia Center for Justice receives around $200 million in federal funds annually and subcontracts with nonprofits to secure legal representation for around 26,000 migrant children.
On Friday, it was informed by Health and Human Services that it can continue offering its “know your rights” free legal clinics to migrant children, but it must stop paying for their legal representation.
Aber said attorneys don’t just help children navigate a tumultuous legal system, but they also help protect them from human trafficking and abuse.
Wendy Young, president of Kids in Need of Defense, also decried the impact of the funding cut on the safety of migrant children. She said it will make it “all but impossible” for children to appear in court at their immigration hearings or remain in touch with immigration agencies.
“It severs key lines of communication and coordination between vulnerable unaccompanied children and the institutions in place to ensure their protection,” she said in a statement.
Unlike in criminal court, individuals in immigration court do not have a guaranteed right to an attorney.
Children can avoid deportation if they are able to meet one of the requirements to obtain special immigrant juvenile status in court. For example, they can prove they were a victim of crime or human trafficking, were abandoned or abused by their parents, or were prosecuted in their home country.
But obtaining this status is nearly impossible without an attorney.
Children represented by an attorney show up to their immigration court hearings around 95% of the time, while those who don’t have an attorney show up around 33% of the time, according to a report by the American Immigration Council.
In the past several years, thousands of children have been deported after failing to show up to their immigration hearings. Last month the Trump administration directed immigration agents to track down and deport unaccompanied migrant children, according to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement memo obtained by Reuters.
Attacking vulnerable communities and people in need is so playbook for this hateful, vile administration. Thanks, Republicans.

^^^ I hate billionaires so damn much.
Tumblr media
We DESPERATELY need to start educating Americans on the difference between for-profit businesses and government public services, I'm so fucking serious. The government should not be run like a business!!!
It's actually vile how the USPS- one of the few government services that's actually good- is constantly under attack by Republicans and their billionaire overlords and mouthbreathing conservative voters justify it because "well, the USPS loses a lot of money." You know what burns tons of money for a way worse outcome than the USPS? The fucking US military, but you never catch these bootlickers arguing that we should drop fewer bombs on brown people overseas.

I just. It just feels like everything about the future has been on hold since trump came down on that escalator. We have so many existential threats we need to address but its felt like groundhog day over and over again, it feels like we as a society can't grow or learn or change until we deal with this, it feels claustrophobic and im tired of living the same day over and over again. And this with so many issues, climate change and gun violence and antisemitism and workers rights and misogyny - i know we can and will move forward eventually but the ONLY job is to defeat republicans and the vile fascist ideology currently using their party as a host, and 9 years in i still don't see our institutions reckoning with this
