I am *sick* and *tired* of non-allo representation where the character is Aro/ace. Like yes, they exist, yes, the representation is a good thing, yes, aro/ace people deserve to be seen and heard and represented, but where's the representation for the allo/aces?The Aro/allos? The demi people? The aro- and ace- flux people? WHERE IS OUR REPRESENTATION?!?

I was listening to a booktuber I watch pretty regularly today and I accidentally came upon a video where she rated Little Thieves and I was like ‼️‼️‼️ oh my gosh my favorite book??!!! I didn’t want to get my hopes up because she is very critical of a lot of books but it was fun to recognize a book she talked about. anyway I’m paraphrasing but she’s like. “I loved all the characters and the concept was neat and there’s interesting things about class” and I’m like yay she likes the book!!!! Then she mentions the romance and says it was really well developed between the main characters and she liked them together, and then was like “and there was this sapphic subplot to and you know I love that stuff!!!” and then kept on going with her rating.

anyway. I felt so incredibly crushed because like. yeah I know the demisexuality is more subtle and that it probably stood out to me more because I am aspec but it really felt like I was just watching some form of aroace erasure in real time.

in honor of pride month: some queer head canons for septimus heap characters!!

Septimus (first of course): aroace king! he is so the type to just have a bestie moment with jenna and beetle and just hang around them all the time but never need something for himself. He just reallyyyyyy likes learning about magyk and going on adventures with his friends!! (also the apprentice and extraordinary wizard colors are green and purple so like..)

Jenna: huuuuuuge bi energy (shout out to that scene from darke 👀). she just gives huge idgaf energy.

Beetle: with a name like this he is not cisgender. bro has the most he/they energy. Both my brother and I lovee this lil guy.

there's nothing heterosexual or cisgender about this image. Also he gives huge bi energy. I think he's in a qpr with septimus while having his bi4bi with Jenna.

Marcia: the lesbian parental figure to ever. I don't have thoughts besides that this woman is not straight in any way.

Milo: polyamorous and asexual. This guy probably loves a lot of his higher ups in his crew. Why else would he be so chill being at sea all the time?

Lucy: demisexual & demiromantic (doesn't really know her attraction past that because she's only ever been into Simon). big she/they energy

Alice Nettles: any pronouns nonbinary and pan

Merrin: totally trans fem. she is so uncomfortable and emo about having to present as a guy and have a name she doesn't like that she gets into darke stuff to cope. credit to @septimus-heap for this post and pointing this out to me, you make a good point.

Wolf Boy: very aroace furry energy. also I feel nonbinary with some neopronouns to do with being raised by wolves and feeling like one of them. I also feel like being keeper of keeper cottage kinda requires a person to be aromantic because you're literally not allowed to get married so it's way better this way. Also probably in a qpr with septimus but yk it's pretty long distance so doesn't always work. but when they do get together bro is it lit.

Sam Heap: Ace and gay. Bro was sooooo confused about why the other forest heaps were so enamored with the wendron witches. He just really likes fishing.

and to finish it off strong

Jim Knee: canonically nonbinary gender fluid. Also the most gender nonconforming and outwardly queer person represented honestly. He's very flamboyant in his current appearance and iteration which is iconic. And I think it's really funny he just decided to be a guy because Merrin called him Jim Knee so he just went with it.

i just really quickly wanted to tell you that im so thankful for being in this world because everyday i find it harder to find proper media representation of being under the aro umbrella(Demiromantic) and being asexual and was wondering if you had any book recommendations with positive/proper aro and/or ace representation you could give me(and everyone else reading this) for a little more light in life when it gets tough.? Thankyou so much again for just..existing, ig if that makes sense ;-;'

Thank you for the thanks!! TwT I've probably said it more than once before here, but my go-to in terms of ace representation is Todd from Bojack Horseman, I just love everything they did with him. Other than that I'm afraid I haven't experienced much ace rep in media for myself*, and I certainly haven't seen any aro rep* TwT Though people keep recommending me Koisenu Futari, so I definitely gotta check that out!! (Also if peeps have suggestions in the comments or in reblogs that'd be very welcome of course, like anon said – anyone else reading this!)

@hecateisalesbian's Pride Of June posts also always include some possible examples of different orientations, so that could be a helpful resources as well!

*(PS: Granted I'm tough to please in terms of rep. Personally I'll only count a character as "good rep" when a- they're expressly stated as asexual/aromantic WITHIN the show and not just a behind-the-scenes word of god, and b- they're allowed to be a character besides the whole checking-a-box of being this or that orientation. Which of course seems to be a particularly tall order for aces and aros TwT)

Do you know of any books / other media w allosexual demiromantic characters that dont end up in qprs or stated to be nonsexual romance, and don't emphasize friendships? (bc Im very repulsed by those things - I do understand its very unlikely to find media with no friendship - something i struggle w a lot as a plato repulsed aplatonic)

Ugh I've been trying to think of / find answers for this and frustratingly I've come up short!! The only allosexual demiromantic rep I can think of is Fire Becomes Her but that is very much about friendship & QPRs so I wouldn't recommend it in this case.

Going to throw this out to my followers and the aro crowd, hopefully they'll know of some more options??

Maybe @aro-who-reads might have something too that I missed?

also like, if we can't use queer, what the hell can we use? do we have another word that doesn't take an overly long time to say which can be used instead? and if so, why?

it works perfectly fine, especially compared to saying the lgbtqia+ community (which isn't one community, there isn't like meetings with all of the queers, it's like, labels you give yourself) wait sorry just realized that I'm pretty sure the q in lgbtqia+ stands for queer, so I guess it would be lgbtia+ which, yeah.

it's probably best just to have one word to refer to people who fit in the really loose definition of queer.

Friendly reminder that aros and aces are excluded only 9.2% / 8.1% of the time respectively while being included  78.9% / 81.2% of the time (x)

Friendly reminder that exclusionists are in the minority and aro/ace people are included in the LGBTQ+ community by the people within the community.

I really enjoyed this one. It was a really quick and easy read that’s perfect for fall. My only complaint is some things felt a little glossed over and the pacing of this was so fast that everything seemed to be going at warp speed. I wish this had just a smidge more meat on its bones, because I really liked Eli and Alexei and would have loved to have a bit more time with them! I had a lot of fun reading this and I can’t wait to dive into the next one. Savage Titan is getting 3.25 stars from me!
