2 - Investigate: Let’s discuss the Legion. PC: I’d like to know more about the Legion of the Dead. Renn: The Legion's pretty straightforward. We keep the darkspawn out of Orzammar. And we're sodding good at it. Becoming a legionnaire is a lifelong oath. One that can't be broken. We celebrate our own funerals before coming to the Deep Roads. As far as our families and Orzammar are concerned, we're already dead. Hence the name.

Finally finishing Descent [I played it 10 months ago but playing it on Nightmare convinced me to give up for a while lol] and I'm ngl, I'm kinda obsessed with this screenshot?? A treehugger (Dalish Elf) being so so so far underground in order to aid some short nerd (Shaper scholar) + her friend's squad of walking corpses (Legion of the Dead) in order to find out whether or not mythical creatures (Titans) are real. In the same area the Chantry's god locked up Tevinter's gods. Near the core. Amazing

In other news, I finally finished the Descent DLC for Inquisition, and I'm glad I went in minimally spoiled, because of all of the things I was expecting, dwarven machine guns fueled by lyrium was not on the list.

Codex: A Cry in the Dark

Inquisition scouts supporting Legion of the Dead forces of Heidrun Thaig report no contact with - or sightings of - Shaper Valta. However, a strange cry recently emanated from the Titan caverns, loud enough to be heard at the mining lifts campsite above. The cry's source remains unclear, but the voice was described as not belonging to either beast or darkspawn. Shaper Valta may be attempting to reestablish contact with her people - and may require assistance.

A search of the Titan caverns all thr way to Shaper Valta's last known location turned up nothing but a fee small groups of Sha-Brytol, who were quickly dispatched. Valta seems to have disappeared deeper inside the Titan, but she was not the only one who vanished. The grave site of Lieutenant Renn was recently disturbed, and his remains are missing. It's not known who took his body or why. There have been no more cries from the Titan caverns.

Inquisition scouts reported one final discovery: the tunnel to thr Wellspring no longer exists. Attempts to delve into the blank rock face result only in broken tools and little trace on the stone itself. Somewhat nervously, but emphatically, engineers recommend leaving it be.

the Journey taash and rye are on where he has actually had a lot of the same experiences as them and dearly wants to help but also simply Cannot let enough of his own internal world out with relative strangers like that in the beginning so it's sort of stilted and distant/impersonal and not very comforting when he tries to provide support, and taash notices and stays tentative with him in return. (rye is pretty friendly and jovial on the surface and incredibly reserved and hard to get to know deep down haha.) and then the actual emotional intimacy and comfort they're starting to build after the fangscorcher fight especially where he finally feels safe enough to admit that beneath it all he's a lot like them. not just about the gender stuff either, I think it's more the 'I try to imagine what a normal person would say and then I go with that and I have a rising ocean of grief and rage inside me I don't have the first idea what to do with and that no dams could hold back forever. but nevermind that' part that hits. I'm. in my emotions very badly about this. themmmmmm...

(rye came out as trans to mourn watch dwarf dad figure on dad figure's actual death bed, just in the nick of time before he lost consciousness for good basically, so even though his dad responded to it in the best possible way in that moment and it was ultimately a good thing, it's a subject matter that is also uh. unavoidably fraught lol. paired with 'MAKER I cannot add my neuroses about that to what taash is dealing with right now this has to stay tucked neatly behind my breastbone forever so it won't leak out and fuck with them' reserve/neurosis built upon neurosis and it's really no wonder it's a bit of an uphill battle at times)
