"A collection of fashion tables by an anonymous artist, published in the mid Dragon Age, depicting costumes and trends from across the Continent"
I've been itching to draw some more crosshatch and got inspired by a piece by Sergio Toppi.
This does NOT mean I'll make a real actual guide to thedosian fashion. (unless........)

IMPORTANT ADDITION: please remember above all to have fun and be yourself <3
What are your cultural inspirations for your dragon age artwork? It’s always so gorgeous and I’d love to be able to do some research into your references :)
Thanks so much for the interest! I've tried to make some sort of map or infographic on the references I usually turn to, especially for fashion across Thedas, but I never managed to finish any. So here's a little rundown of what I generally think of when drawing DA art!
Overall I am a huge fan of making Thedas more "historically accurate" when it comes to day-to-day life and, again, fashion (this focuses a lot on costume design, I realised mid-rant that you never specified that so I apologise if I've gone completely off topic. Just let me know if you had a different question lmao). I have answered another ask some time ago about my medieval and early modern resources, and that hasn't changed much. I use those mostly for my Fereldan and Marcher characters, though there's a big difference when I consider the two places' vibes.
Ferelden to me is very fairy tale-ish, something between Disney's Sleeping Beauty and Arthurian Legend. I like to look at medieval illuminated manuscripts and paintings and also keep an eye on illustrations like Warwick Goble's for that exaggerated, fantasy touch.
The Free Marches are more like Hollywood’s attempt at XVIth century. I like to look at the show The Borgias or BBC's The Musketeers, or one of my faveys, the movie Tale of Tales, for costumes and setting design.
Orzammar is overwhelmingly Russian to me so I often turn to Ivan Bilibin's art and pictures of Imperial court dresses. Plus Art Deco for the patterns and shape language.
Orlais is a pastiche of Louis XIV Versailles, Elizabethan ruffs, Venetian carnevale masks and Hunger Games Capitol opulence. admittedly I haven't drawn much set in Orlais so I can't speak much on just how heavy handed I'd end up making it. Surely they would not all be dressed like that.
As for the newer cultures we only visited in Veilguard, I'm still staying pretty close to the game's and artbook's direction. One because I still haven't found a fun angle to twist some of them, but two, because I do enjoy a lot of the thought put behind the art this time round! I do have a couple of hills to die on in that regard, simply because I had thought of that years before the game came out, and those are:
Ancient Arlathan has some 1920's Art Nouveau/Alfons Mucha influences;
Nevarra is Greek. just. that's the style. Specifically I reference Nicolas Sperling's watercolours from the Hellenic National Costumes (here's most of them). I also love the direction they went in the game, so I'm trying to mix the two things together
