So, I did a post about Netflix in honour of #renewshadowandbone day. Thought I'd bring it here.
Remember to sign and share the petition! You can look it up as "Save Shadow and Bone". Also, remember to follow the savethegrishaverse account to hear all about the campaign!

Onto the post:
Netflix has gone under a series of changes lately.
One of them is the Extra Member policy, in which one account can't be used by people who aren't members of a household. If you want to allow access to someone that doesn't live in your household, you have to pay an extra fee (currently in places like the US).
Okay, so Netflix wants to stay relevant and make more money. What are they doing with it?
As of late, we've all seen Netflix focusing in new markets (i.e. the release of new reality shows and games)
Especially considering the amount of competition Netflix has nowadays, this is clever. And sure, they've been known to release good content once in a while (like Society of the Snow or The Umbrella Academy).
But then, we have content like Love is Blind, which has caused a lot of controversy with the several allegations that the cast is forced to filmed under the influence of alcohol, that they are underfed and that the whole thing is very detrimental to their mental health.
Another thing is that many of Netflix's most popular shows are ending in 2024-2025. The Umbrella Academy, Stranger Things and One Piece, to name a few (and all of them relatively expensive if we take into account their production costs).
Of course, Netflix has new content on its way (like the fantastic Greta Gerwig's Narnia) but the thing is, the number of shows that are cancelled after its second season is astoundingly high so, what does that mean for the viewer's trust in Netflix new material? That we're going to get new shows only to have them cancelled? That the only ones they're going to see through are the realities? I for one, am hesitant to trust this.
Netflix argued that the increase of fees, the change of their policy when it comes to shared accounts and even the introduction of ads would serve for development of new content. I would argue that a better use would be finishing the shows they've already released, like Shadow and Bone. With an established fanbase, finished script for a Spin-off, a lot of source material and even an Emmy nomination, it's really a no-brainer.
Netflix, finish what you start. First in the agenda: #renewshadowandbone.

This is such a well thought out work, thank you for sharing this!
Are Kanej asexuals?
While we celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride in the Grishaverse, let's discuss a matter that is not always well understood, but often spoken about in the fandom - are Kanej asexuals?
Trigger warning for talk of sexuality, trauma, PTSD and past sexual abuse.
According to asexuals.fandom.com, the asexuality spectrum is an umbrella term that applies to people who feel little to no sexual attraction and includes such micro labels as asexual, aroace, graysexual, demisexual, aegosexual, apothisexual, fraysexual, aceflux, cupiosexual, orchidsexual or caedosexual. A-spec is a term that can include all of the above.
A little known fact about asexuality is that it is different from libido (or sexual desire). Asexuality is a sexual orientation that relates to attraction, but asexuals can have either high or low libido, which is not directed at anyone in particular. Also, asexuals can have sex for many reasons that are not related to sexual attraction, such as to please their partners, to relax or for pleasure and they are no less asexuals, but it's also important to mention that the majority of people that identify as a-spec do not include sex in their lives.
Asexuality is a spectrum and the opposite of allosexuality, which refers to people who often experience sexual attraction.
An often unknown label under the asexual umbrella is caedosexual. This includes people who once identified as allosexual, but later on identified on the asexual spectrum because of trauma. It was feared that inclusion of this flag under asexuality would further feed the prejudice that all asexuals are like this because of trauma, but this has been disproven. Only caedosexuals are so because of trauma, not the other a-specs.
Now let's see what we know about Kanej. Both Kaz and Inej have gone through horrific experiences in their childhood and puberty respectively, and their resulting traumas are affecting how they engage with their sexualities in their teen years. Their desire to heal fluctuates. Sometimes Kaz thinks that Inej could never be truly his and Inej thinks that they might be better off with their armors intact and at other times Inej appreciates that they have tried to be close and wishes they could try again and Kaz fights his demons in order to hold her hand. Fact is, the caedosexuals I have spoken to have said that Kaz and Inej can choose to work towards separating their traumas from their sexualities in the future, or they can choose not to and they are valid either way. So what could be safely said is that Kanej are likely caedosexuals in SoC + CK timeline, although that could change in the future.
But the discussion of whether Kaz and Inej fall under the asexual spectrum is more complex than that and in the fandom you can often find fans arguing either that they provide much needed representation to asexuals or on the contrary, that they are very eager to heal and have an intimate relationship. But let's not forget that libido is different from attraction and there are many asexuals with high libido, so the question here is what type of attraction do Kaz and Inej experience?
The media that we consume is largely amatonormative, meaning that it assumes that all humans pursue love of a romantic and sexual nature, but a less known fact is that attraction can take many more forms than we were led to believe by such media. Attraction is sexual when a person wants to have sex with another, romantic when they desire to engage in romantic activities, aesthetic when they think someone is beautiful, sensual when they desire non-sexual physical closeness (such as nonromantic cuddles and kisses), platonic when they want to be friends with someone or queerplatonic (alterous) when someone desires a committed relationship with a partner that is in between platonic and romantic in nature. Other types of attraction are familial, emotional, intellectual or spiritual.
For example, it is quite clear that Inej doesn't feel spiritual attraction towards Kaz's lack of faith in saints, but she does feel intellectual attraction towards his brilliant mind. And though Kaz might cover his feelings under "economic" attraction (joking), the question here is under what type of attraction do Kaz's and Inej's feelings for each other fall under. Fact is, if allosexuals view Kaz and Inej through their lense they can easily think that they feel sexual and romantic attraction for each other, but if asexuals view them from their lense instead, what Kanej feel might very well be queerplatonic, sensual or aesthetic attraction that for one or both of them isn't sexual or romantic in nature. For example some people view Kaz's interest in Imogen as a challenge and his desire to have an intimate connection with Inej as wanting to please her and they argue that Kaz has been "content" on his own for so long, plotting his revenge and Barrel dominion, that he might well be asexual or demisexual. Many other people view Inej's famous line "I'll have you without armor" to be related to trust solely, whereas others view it as being both about intimacy and trust. And let's not forget the many voices that appreciate Kanej for showing how people can love each other deeply even when they don't have sex. The truth is that we don't know for sure where Kanej fall on the spectrum of attraction, the text is beautifully vague in that regard, but the many varied interpretations about Kanej show that what meets the eye is not always a person's inner experience.
To sum up, the one thing that is almost certain about Kaz and Inej is that in book time, their traumas influence their experience of sexuality, likely setting them under the a-spec umbrella as caedosexuals. This may or may not change in the future, depending on their desire and capacity to heal, but Kanej are valid either way. As regards to how Kanej might identify were they to heal from their traumas, many interpretations about the way they feel attraction or lack of it are possible, setting them as either allosexual, demisexual or asexual. The beauty of book Kanej is that they are written in such a subtle way that they provide representation to a wide range of people and that's why we love them so much!

OFMD renewal
How recent events turned the tables and made a renewal more likely again
This post is dedicated to David Jenknis who woke up this weekend and choose violence
A few thing happened during the last week. I will go through them Point by point and explain what it means for a OFMD renewal
1. David jenknis tweets.
When he posted those tweets it was obvious that there was still no new contract from HBO max, renewing the show for a new season. A good example to explain it is the Netflix show shadow and bone. Shadow and bone was a hit show on Netflix but for some weird reasons it took Netflix nearly three months to renew the show. We still do not really know why, even though it is usual that Netflix sometimes needs longer to renew shows this took awfully long. Most probably it was a problem with the contracts but I am just guessing here. But why didn’t the fans started a #RenewShadowAndBone campaign? Because when asking the cast and crew if we would get a season 2 they kept silent. This is a good sign. Because it means they are under a new NDA making it impossible to say anything. A creator saying: „we do not know if we will get a new season“ is a bad sign. And NOT a creator lying to make the renewal more of a happy surprise. Look at the fandom, look how they reacted when Jenkins said he doesn’t know if OFMD will be back. This tweet immediately started to trend. Resulting in a wave of tweets adding HBO max, some of them rude of course. You do not do that when you are renewed and can not tell yet. Another good example are ODAAT or The Irregulars (both Netflix shows). Netflix dropped ODAAT without any promo, also resulting in the creator saying that if we want a fourth season the shows needs more views. You also do not do that when your show is renewed. After the show was cancelled she also encouraged the fans to tag other streaming services to help the show get a new home. Sounds familiar? The irregulars also had the actors say: „we do not know if we will get a season 2 but we hope so.“ they show was shortly cancelled after
So Jenkins deleting all the tweets, only leaving the „No ones giving up“ tweet online means something has changed. I just guess here that the instant Twitter storm has encourage HBO max to change their schedule and get in contact with Jenkins faster then they thought they would. That doesn’t mean the show is renewed but they are definitely talking. Because leaving a tweet up where you talk about changing the network is not so good if you are making new negotiations with your streaming service. But it they still aren’t talking you can leave it up. Maybe he put them down himself because he thought the tweets are too much or HBO asked him to. Whatever, it is a good sign
2. less BTS content
I know you all enjoy BTS content and it is fun to see all the glimpse behind the magic but actors posting so much BTS is a horrible sign for a renewal. Because it means their contracts ended and they can - mostly - post everything they want. In contrast: if you are still under a NDA, there are really strict regulations what you can and can not post. F.e. After season 3 of the Witcher started filming Royce Pierreson (the actor of Istredd) posted a short story showing him in a box, surrounded by nearly a 100 cameras, flashing him with light. They story didn’t spoiled anything was taken down really fast again. Same goes for example for Chris Chibnall from Doctor who, who - during a SDCC Twitter takeover - posted a photo of Jodie Whitaker and Alex Kingston with the caption: the doctor and her wife. The tweet was down after one minute. BBC replaced the tweet with a new tweet using the same photo but another caption (source: an interview chibnal gave a while ago. I can dig out out again if you want).
Why? Because those stories and tweets where against the rules of the network. Or look at shadow and bone. The main BTs content we get is from the official Instagram page. The photos we get from the cast is mostly off set. So a cast posting BTS pictures like crazy, showing all the magic is a horrible sign. So the cast stopping to post BTS pics doesn’t mean the are out of content but under new NDAs.
3. official content
As a fan myself I also always enjoy the chaotic BTS content by cast and crew but what we want now is official content! Aarons photos are approved BTS photos. Same goes for the question video Rhys and Taika took part in. HBO delivering this content is a good sign. HBO now taking care of the content instead of the cast is what makes a renewal more likely. But we should be careful with that. For the irregulars, Netflix also had an Instagram account they put a lot of dedication into it. They posted all the content, shut the account down and cancelled the show. So posting content is =/= a renewal but content hyping the fans up is good!
4. the show being highest in demand for five weeks
HBO max is a really new channel, not establish in every country yet and already suffering from a merge. What they need is show that binds viewers. OFMD is hardly suited to be cool edgy brand like GOT or Euphoria and it will never be. Nevertheless people want another season like crazy. Such a high demand for a show that is not even aired in most of the world? HBO knows most of us are watching it illegally. But they are used to it. The finale GOT season was the most illegal streamed show ever. They used that for their marketing. Because it shows that the content is desired. And HBO max is still to be rolled out in other countries. So putting a show up there which is wanted (and already watched) in most of the world is good for them. They instantly have something to promote the channel with. And as bonus, we are doing the free advertisement with all our posts and artworks. There was the same situation for Miss Sherlock which also aired on HBO (HBO Asia). HBO Asia even made a Twitter video saying: we now added Miss Sherlock on HBO international. So please no illegal streaming anymore. Okay? 😉“ they also picked up on the Johnlock tag #watolock. That shows that they have a really good social media team which is really aware if everything going on. Miss Sherlock was cancelled nevertheless, but the show was closed in the first season and today I would assume it was because of Yukos mental health. RIP.
Or look at Paramount+ which keeps on greenlightning seasons for Star Trek discovery even though season 1 heavily suffered. Why? Because they needed (and still need) content for their streaming service. HBO max is young. They need content and viewers
Edit: as a bonus a official HBO interacted with that tweet. Giving us even more official HBO tweets about OFMD in the last week
5. Jenkins saying he thinks the show can be closed in three seasons
I know this interview is from March but What Jenkins did here was really clever. He straight up said HBO his conditions here.
We all want more seasons and I deeply miss the time where we got 22 eps per seasons, but Jenkins set up a really realistic frame here. I have a slight feeling, that if we get a renewal it will be like Sandition where Season 2 and 3 where announced at the same time. And HBO max also know it works. Two more seasons. If they are filmed back to back that means three more years if content. Perfect for HBO max. Not too much but also not too little
6. this tweet I found and interacted with on Twitter
This is good sign. Like I already said: HBO max is new. They can not cancel shows like crazy like Netflix does. HBO max needs the content. So your show has to perform really bad to get cancelled. We do not have the insights but OFMD is doing the exact opposite. It is performing really good. And for after the merge, and possible changes on the website, they need a high demand content so people stick around. Which will be if course euphoria and maybe OFMD
Bonus: 6. HBO added official verified OFMD on twitter to use
Just recently, this weekend HBO added official HBO max verified gifs to use on twitter. You can see the logo. This is also a good sign, because they told an employee to use his/her paied time for OFMD.
So i can not say if a renewal is near or not but those are the signs you should pay attention to.

Streaming is the key to success—this week stream Season 1!
We all love to watch Shadow and Bone—it’s the show that brought the Third Army together and the reason we keep fighting to see more of those brilliant characters and book storylines shown on screen. But why is streaming crucial to our strategy?
For a start, showrunner Eric Heisserer has very recently given us confirmation that, for now, Netflix is still our best bet to #SaveShadowAndBone and greenlight the #SixOfCrowsSpinoff. This means it's all the more important to keep streaming Shadow and Bone! So from Apr. 29-May. 5, we need you to stream Season 1 of Shadow and Bone exclusively on Netflix, on repeat!
It's a vital part of our strategy for the following reasons:
- Watching a season at a time, with the volume on, all the way through every episode is the way that Netflix counts their streams. Only watch Season 1 this week, do NOT stream Season 2 for now!
- We need every stream we can to get Shadow and Bone trending again. A high number of streams shows Netflix hard data that proves there continues to be demand and passion for this show even this long after the release of Season 2. And demand means money for Netflix.
- Due to the way things are handled in the show business, Netflix is still our best bet for renewal. Using their own platform to show them that we mean business is one of the best steps we can continue to take for this campaign. Or should I say, what business, Netflix?

Third Army we need you! Cancelled Sci Fi is holding a poll about which TV shows are most deserving of renewal. They will share the poll results with the streaming networks and this boosts the chances of renewal. They also host pages for fan run campaigns to save shows and we are currently working on a summary of our actions in order to request such a page. The only problem is that Shadow and Bone is not listed in the poll as of yet, so we need you to request that Shadow and Bone be added to the poll at the following link:
