What I read in July 2017.

July was a big reading month for me. I read so much, and it was great. I also read Wires and Nerve Volume 1 and Heartless by Marissa Meyer, and Keeping the Castle by Patrice Kindl (not pictured here).

Hey bookstagram! 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻 I haven’t posted in a long time and I’m trying to remedy that. And speaking of comebacks, VAMPIRES 🧛🏻‍♀️ are apparently making a grand return?!? I’m filled with all the excitement!! I recently read Midnight Sun which made me feel super nostalgic for my high school days (but also how did I miss the fact that Edward Cullen is a creepy af stalker???), and my current read is The Beautiful by Renee Ahdie, which is totally giving me #TheOriginals vibes! #4. Is there a book you think needs a bigger fandom?

THE WRATH AND THE DAWN! This duology is one of the most beautiful written books I’ve read in the past years. The story is beautiful and the characters are believable and the setting is mesmerizing. I think it’s a very good entrance point for people who want to read about worlds that are not so eurocentric or western. However it’s important to recognize or acknowledge that these books are just a representation of a world and a society’s folklore. It is not how the “middle east” actually is. This story may contribute to the imaginary of the middle east as an exotic place and this notion of “exotic” is not always so favorable. That being said, I will reiterate that it is a good starting point if you are interested in certain aspects of that culture and that the story is very entertaining. 

Renee Ahdie deserves more recognition for the effort she is putting into making the Y.A and the literary community within the US more diverse by expanding the limits of what can be told in a western society. Even though certain parts of the book might seem very foreign for someone who belongs to the anglo-american or western part of the world, the characters come to show that you can relate to someone’s story regardless of their cultural background. 

#31. How do you think you would be described if you was in a book??

I’m not going to lie I’ve spent a good part of my day thinking about this question, and honestly I don’t know. I like to think I have an elegant feel, and I’ve been told I can be quite intimidating both physically and intellectually but once you get to know me I’m friendly. I’m very sarcastic and charming… yet really insecure about her body.

I know this is just a self description, so if you can think about a more literary way to describe me I’ll welcome it.
