So, I wanted to make Con artist AU Janus completely blind, but it’s just not working.
So now he’s blind in one eye and has no depth perception.
Because I still need the blind factor for storyline, but completely blind isn’t working.

Snake and Hamster
Author's note: I've noticed after that there was art of Janus and Sacagawea the hamster but not a story. But That's going to change!
Notice/warnings: Remus being Remus, biting, wine
â–Șâ–Șâ–Ș
Janus was walking around the mind palace to clear his head.
He just tried to get Thomas to listen to him by doing the courtroom to show him that Thomas wants to go to the call back instead of the wedding, but NO, instead Thomas is going to the wedding instead of the callback!
Janus just sent Remus to show himself to Thomas.
It made him satisfied for some reason.
He was close enough to hear them on his walk.
“You know who else can help.” he heard Remus say but was interrupted by Thomas exclaiming, “One of you is enough!”
Janus sighed and started to chuckle. “You wanted to know yourself. So, you’re getting to know yourself.” Janus chuckled. He started to walk back to the dark part of the mind. He stopped at one point to see if anyone was following him.
Nothing. He saw no one following him.
Janus shrugged and continued walking, not knowing that something was following him.
When Janus got back, he went to the couch and summoned a glass with wine.
After a minute, he felt something on his leg. Janus looked down to see what it was.
It was a white and brown fuzzy something.
Janus somehow manages to do a high kick to get it off of his leg without hurting himself. Janus was on the arm of the couch with a couch pillow ‘shielding’ him to protect him from it as it landed next to him.
He peaked to see what it was.
It was Sacagawea, the Hamster.
"Oh!" exclaimed Janus, putting the pillow down and putting a hand out to her. “I’m so sorry.”
Sacagawea looked at it and then bit it. Janus pulled his hand away, an angry look on his face. “We don’t get to bite.” he told her. “Only Remus gets to when he has the chance.”
She looked up at him and then got on his hand. He pet her as she nuzzled his hand.
His anger face became a smile as he chuckled and petted her.
It was nice to have some company that was calm and didn’t try to make a mess almost every 10 minutes.
It was about half an hour when Remus came back.
He looks very happy.
“Oh boy! You should have been there, JD!” Remus said excitedly. “It was SO much fun-!” He noticed the hamster. “Is that Sacagawea?” he asked, pointing at the hamster.
Sacagawea was on top of Janus’ head as Janus looked at Remus.
“No, it’s Remy the Rat from Ratatouille.” Janus joked. Remus just stared at him for a moment and then started to laugh.
That caused Janus to laugh too.
“Yes, of course it is her.” Janus said, trying not to laugh more, because Sacagawea just got startled and was gripping onto Janus' hair.
When Remus stopped laughing, he looked serius. “So
did you take her?” he asked, pointing out the door that he came in.
Janus shook his head softly. “I’m guessing that she followed me.”
Remus hummed and nodded, then he petted her. Sacagawea nuzzled Remus' hand.
○
Janus chuckled softly.
'This is nice.'
In the 5 year anniversary video, Janus and the other sides answer questions that Thomas has asked them and they answer the questions.
"Everyone has a question about where Sacagawea is?" Thomas asked. "Do you know where she is?"
Janus looked annoyed as he sighed.
“Why does everyone care so much about what happened to Sacagawea the Hamster?!” Janus exclaimed angrily. Then he looked at the camera and said, “Folks, she’s gone. She mysteriously disappeared and no one has a clue where she went.”
Then he points at the top of his head with his left pointer finger and his other finger over his mouth as he says, “Shh.”
Thomas looked at Janus and at his hat. “Are you implying that she’s under your hat?” he asked.
“No, I’m implying that you all use your brains.” Janus explained, still pointing at the top of his head. “She’s gone!” Then Janus tries not to smile, knowing that she's there.

Home, Part Four: You Left Me to Bleed
Prinexity
TW: Trauma, cursing, Unsympathetic Janus, Unsympathetic Patton, past abusive relationships, child growing up in a toxic home, manipulation, emotional abuse, physical abuse, a stray cat, playboy, Remus, Trans!Virgil, friend break up, trauma, alludes to dissociation, traumatic experiences.
Jeremy Empire was the school heartbreaker. Fitting, since he had his broken first. He knew that these weren’t the only names he was called. Gay JD, bad boy, fuck boy, and no good peice of shit were a couple of his other favorites. Remy was never in one place, he was in five at once. He caused trouble, but no one could ever declare him guilty. HIs fathers weren’t exactly pleased with what he did, but they did acknowledge that they gave him those traits. Roman gave him the romance, Virgil the emo rebel, his uncle Remus lent the trouble maker, and Emile...oh he gave him pain.
Pain seemed to be a family trait. Everyone in Remy’s family always had some heartbreak, some emotional destruction. Hell, even their cat, Panic!, had something wrong with his life. The cat was a stray until Remy’s dads found and adopted him.
Regardless, none of that mattered. Remy threw on his leather jacket, grabbed a coffee, got on his father’s old motorcycle, and went to school. It was junior year, a year of stress and susceptible emotions. So, the perfect time to find someone new to hit on. Remy went through the ideas as he walked through the halls. Maybe an aggressively straight guy with obvious internalized homophobia? Or the gay nerd that really wants attention? Or the-
Remy’s thoughts were abruptly interrupted when he accidentally slammed into a fellow student.
“Shit,” He cursed. He saw the person’s tawny hair and sweater vest. Clearly a nerd, considering how many books were lying on the ground. Maybe he should help? But by the time Remy came to that conclusion, the books were already in his arms.
“Sorry, I didn’t see you there,” the person mumbled. “I’ll just go.” The person started to walk away but Remy grabbed their sleeve. They sounded familiar. The person stopped. “Could you let go of my sleeve please?” Remy didn’t respond, instead pulling the sleeve slightly, which caused the person to turn around. Remy attempted to make eye contact through sunglasses, but the person dropped their head, avoiding it like a pro. He was impressive. “Please let go of my sleeve.”
ïżœïżœMake eye contact and I let go.” The person shifted the books in their arms and sighed, before lifting up their head. Remy stumbled backward. A sixteen year old Emile looked at him uncomfortably through glasses. He barely changed since they were kids, still with a face that looks like it could smile in moments.  “Emile?” Remy gasped, too shocked to say anything. He hadn’t seen him since sixth grade, he had assumed he transferred schools.
“I’m sorry, do I know you?” Emile asked, dropping his gaze again to avoid eye contact. Remy felt all his emotions rush forward again, just like the day Emile abandoned him. He attempted to keep his cool, but it was so hard when fucking Emile was standing there, acting like they had never been friends. First leaving him alone, and now this. Emile was a son of bitch.
Remy didn’t even realize Emile had shrunk back, holding his books to his chest, until he came close, almost nose to nose with him.
“You should.” Emile flinched, taking a step back.
“I’m really sorry, but I just don’t know who you are,” Emile panicked. At this point people stopped to watch. It was the most interesting they’d see all day. Everyone knew who the two were. Emile would always be there with a smile if you needed help and Remy had broken hearts so many times, he was probably heartless.
“You are a fucking monster.” Emile’s eyes filled with tears that he stubbornly held back in. Those words echoed in his skull.  Remy glared at him.
“I’m sorry,” Emile whispered, quickly running off into the crowd. Remy watched him run off. Then he stormed off into the opposite direction.
For the rest of the day, gossip followed the two around school. Were they scorned lovers? Mortal enemies? Did Remy break his heart? Did Emile break Remy’s? Was there a  dramatic backstory? Did the two meet and one had a concussion and forgot? Was this some alternate universe that they traveled to where only Remy knew he saw Emile? Nobody was too sure. But two things were known. Remy was furious, and Emile was terrified. And that was enough for the rumors to make their way home.
“All I’m saying is, hypothetically, you could murder him.”
“REMUS!”
“Whaaat?” Roman shook his head at his brother, holding Virgil’s hand gently as they sat on the couch.
“I don’t know if you know this Mr. Mad Scientist, but in the real world murder is illegal!”
“Only if you get caught,” Virgil chimed in, petting the cat. Roman looked at him, exasperated.
“It's amazing that I’m the only impulse control in this house.” Remus cackled as Virgil chucked a pillow at Roman’s head. Remy sat silently, not talking about anything that happened today. The adults stopped when Remy remained silent.
“Hey Remy, sweetheart, are you okay? I know that must have been very upsetting,” Virgil said softly. Remy rolled his eyes and huffed.
“Upsetting is one word for ripping out my heart and stopping on its already broken pieces.”
“You sound exactly like your father,” Virgil snorted. Roman smiled, leaning over and kissing the top of Virgil’s head.
“What can I say, I have the better genes.” Virgil leaned on Roman’s shoulder.
“Aren’t you related to that trash rat?”
“Regardless, still better.”
“Alright, stop flirting with you two. Clearly your son is having an emotional crisis. And I’m shit at emotions, so do your thing,” Remus said, gesturing to Remy. Virgil sighed and nodded.
“I know this is rough-”
“You have no idea how ROUGH this is. How could he just forget me like that? We were best friends, and he abandoned me.” Virgil and Roman exchanged a look as Remy fumed. Then Roman sighed, and stepped forward.
“He didn’t abandon you.” Remy looked at him incredulously, standing up.
“Um, I’m pretty sure he did dad!” Roman shook his head.
“He didn’t. At least not on purpose.” Remy fell back into his seat, confused.
“What?”
“Virgil will explain better.” Virgil got up and sat next to his son, one hand on his back soothingly.
“So it looks like I’m going to have  to tell you a long story. It started in college.”
“You’re kidding. Emile abandoning me, starts when you were in college? Bullshit.” Virgil rolled his eyes while Remus and Roman exchanged a look.
“You are very lucky I didn’t start when I was in sophomore year of college. Trust me, this shit goes back a long while.” Remy flopped backward.
“Fiiiine.”
“Good. I wasn’t dating your father at the time, instead I was dating Deceit.”
“Okay, this is not some dudes name is it?” Roman joined in, responding for Virgil.
“No it's not, but it's very difficult for your father to refer to him by his given name.”
“Why?”
“i’m getting to that,” Virgil said, getting irritated. “I will explain everything, just please stop interrupting.” Remy rolled his eyes but nodded. “Now Deceit was not a good person.”
“That's a nice way of saying absolute dickhead,” Remus muttered. Virgil glared at him and he shut up. Remy sat up, a bit more interested.
“Anyway, he wasn’t a good person,”
“Dickhead,” Remus muttered.
“AND his brother was a person named Patton Lugner.”
“How is this important?” Remy asked, becoming bored again, grabbing a cup of coffee and starting to sip out of it.
“COULD YOU ALL JUST LET ME SPEAK?” Everyone immediately shut up. “Thank god. Now, I had been dating Deceit since sophomore year of highschool and we moved to college together. He was the only person I knew, so I was very isolated and alone. I had terrible anxiety at the time and being alone around him made it worse.” Virgil hitched a breath. Roman came over, encouraging him with a gentle arm around his shoulder.
“Deceit could get violent. In fact, he rarely didn’t. On the outside, you wouldn’t have known it. It was so easy to fall into his trap that way. He smoothly talked and lied about everything. He could have said, ‘The sky is green’ and I would have accepted it without question. That was the type of person he was. I had been incredibly nervous so I only saw people with Deceit. Naturally that met the only people I ever saw were people Deceit trusted to not help me. So, I met his brother Patton. I was convinced he didn’t know, so I acted secretive. He did know though. About everything that went on behind the closed doors.” Virgil inhaled and exhaled, trying to calm back down. Roman soothed him, and he began to speak again.
“Then I met your uncle Remus. He was best friends with Deceit.” Remy spit out his coffee.
“WHAT?!”
“Hey, I didn’t know he was a complete dolphin’s asshole at the time,” Remus shrugged. Remy gaped at his uncle. This was quite the story to be hearing and it had barely started.
“We didn’t talk much, he was quite loud and out there, and frankly I was terrified. But one night I ran out of the dorm, absolutely terrified and in pain. And your uncle Remus was there. I was hidden by the dark and my hoodie, so he didn’t know it was me, but he was kind and asked why I was here. I said I had been hurt badly,” Virgil unintentionally flinched at the memory, trying to get back on track. “He asked who did. And I said it was my boyfriend. He wanted to get me help immediately, because despite his off the wall attitude, your uncle was a good person.”
“Why thank you Virgey.” Virgil rolled his eyes.
“I said no, because I was so scared what would happen if he found out. But he tried to encourage me to leave, even if he couldn’t help. I didn’t listen at first, but the words sunk into my brain and stayed there. He succeeded in planting the doubt in my head. And one night, when I had finally had enough, I broke up with Deceit and immediately ran out the door, not listening to what he wanted to say or do next. Next thing I knew I was in the center of the grounds running as fast as I could away. And then I bumped right into your father.”
“This is like a cheesy rom-com,” Remy muttered, before Roman, not Virgil shot him a dirty look.
“Anyway, I ran into your father. And I didn’t really know what I was doing at the time, but I begged for him to let me be in his dorm. I said I was running from someone who was trying to hurt me. Your father was always a big softie and let me come in. Turns out he was sharing a room with your uncle Remus. He was surprised to see me because,” Remus joined in.
“Aren’t you J’s roommate?”
“I panicked immediately, but your father helped me through my attack and I calmed down. I didn’t tell them why I was scared, just that I switched rooms because Janus had a partner who was there all the time and it freaked me out. They let me stay, and eventually, I met their friend. His name was Logan Berry, and he was a very smart law student. As it happened he was friends with Deceit. Or not friends as much as acquaintances. He was, however, close friends with Patton, Deciet’s twin brother. So naturally, the twins hung out with us. I hadn’t told anyone about Deceit, but I quickly figured out from side glances and careful looks, Patton knew. And he didn’t care.”
“Should these names feel familiar? Because they are to me, but I can’t place them,” Remy asked. Virgil nodded.
“Oh they should. Patton scared the crap out of me, but he was Logan’s friend and by extension mine, so I tried to get rid of the underlying fear. And I just tried to pretend Deceit wasn’t there.  At some point your father and I started dating. He knew I had serious issues from something, but he didn’t know what. Eventually he discovered it was Deceit and I swore him to secrecy, albeit reluctantly. Then, Remus came in. He was crying. Actually crying so we knew something had happened. Remus, want to take this bit?”
“Yup! So, Logan dropped me as a friend. I didn’t know why, but it was very painful. At first I wanted to cry, and then I wanted to rip out his internal organs. But your dad was suspicious of what happened, especially after Logan started to date Patton. He went to talk to Logan, only for Logan to dismiss it and leave. Your dad got home, and then vowed to confront Patton about this.” Virgil sighed.
“So, after class, I went to go find Patton when I was stopped by Deceit. He threatened me with exposing what happened to me to everyone if I did anything. And while I had more confidence, I didn’t have enough to say ‘Fuck you, I’ll do this anyway.’ So I listened and went back, my suspicions confirmed when Logan walked back to class with foundation on his face. I’ve put on enough makeup in my lifetime, whether it was for me or to hide a bruise, so I could immediately tell what happened. I wanted to do something and tell someone what happened. But I knew no one would believe me and everyone would just end up hurt.” Remy looked confused.
“Why wouldn’t someone believe you pops? Surely people take this seriously.”
“I wish that was the case. But I was a scrawny twenty year old trans man, who hadn’t even fully transitioned yet. They don’t take this seriously when someone with confidence says stuff, how the hell could I even think of it. Regardless, things got better for me and unfortunately worse for Logan. I didn’t see him in class a week later. When I tried to call him, my number was blocked. And then he got married Patton, becoming Logan Hart.” Remy’s jaw dropped.
“WHAT THE HELL? ARE YOU SAYING WHAT I THINK YOU’RE SAYING?” Roman and Remus couldn’t help but laugh at Remy’s reaction. Virgil smiled.
“Wait until I finish and you’ll really be shocked. Obviously, me and your dad got married and had you after we finished college. We lost contact with Logan, for obvious reasons. We knew he was married to Patton, but that was about it. Once you turned four we sent you to a preschool. You know the one fifteen minutes away? Then your father ran late to pick you up one day and that’s when we get to you. Patton was your teacher and your father vaguely recognized him. Your father suddenly saw Logan and everything clicked. You were playing with Emile, so you didn’t realize. Naturally, your dad told me what happened and I was tempted then and there to hunt down Patton Hart.”
“But,” Roman interrupted, taking the conversation, “I didn’t let him do that. Instead we bided our time. We didn’t want to ruin your and Emile’s friendship. You were both so happy. But everything went wrong on your first playdate at a house. It was ours and you had a good time. Everything seemed fine. Me and your father remained civil with Patton. Maybe this would work out. And then you asked-”
“What loud noises start at night?” Remy whispered, pulling up the distant memory in horror. Virgil nodded as Roman continued.
“And Patton immediately shut the door in our faces, bringing Emile in with him. You didn’t understand and were led back to the car. We don’t know what happened next in their home, but you can bet it was nothing good. I strongly suspect Patton might have manipulated or scared Emile into ignoring you.”
“And,” Virgil added, “Emile likely associates you with a traumatic memory and his brain blocks you out to stay safe.” Remy stared in horror at his fathers, who stared at him solemnly.
“Holy shit.”

My sides!
So whilst I wait for my motivation to pick back up for the Demigod au, I'll give you something that I've done already. Concept art for my sides! I only have the picrews for now, but I'm working on art for all of them. And boy is there a lot. As I discover new things about myself, I've uped it to about 8.
First, the sides you know from the actual sanders sides.
Tumblr media
This is Remi, my anxiety. They use They/Them pronouns.
I've been getting to know Remi a lot since I found out I had them. They represent the Anxiety that I can recognise and prevent. They work with me.
Tumblr media
This is my creativity, and their name is Max. They use They/Them and Xe/Xim. pronouns.
Max is just your run of the mill Creativity, but if you call them dramatic they will take offence and possibly cry.
đŸ“·
Tumblr media
This is my "morality", Chrystian. They use They/Them pronouns.
I put morality in quotes because they aren't really morality. I think they might be a part of anxiety, or intrusive thoughts, or something. But for a long time, they masqueraded as my morality. In truth, my morality isn't a side. They're more of a subconscious thing and they don't need a physical representation. But this side does.
They present lies as fact. So yeah, they may be a part of deceit, but I mainly use them for "Lying to others" instead of lying to myself.
Mainly though, I just needed a representation for someone who said things like: "You're a bad person" Or, "You're so stupid."
I've learned that I can't reason with them. I have to say, "That isn't true, and you know it," and try to move on.
Remi, my anxiety, is more of questioning. I can reason with them and even change their mind. They'll ask things like: "Oh my gosh what if they didn't like us?" Or, "What if you're a bad person?" And I can assure them that things are alright.
I can't do that with Chrystian.
đŸ“·
Tumblr media
Then we've got Sam, who is my logic and uses They/Them and Fae/Faer pronouns.
Their personality is the most like Pattons. Fae gets very exited about new things I learn about myself, and makes it faer mission to know everything about my latest hyperfixation. Fae has started working closley with Max with projects, and has started to hang out with Remi, Dee, and Austin to help work me through my problems in the most logical ways possible.
đŸ“·
Tumblr media
This is Ava, my Deceit, and they use They/Them and Fae/Faer pronouns.
Ava works diligently to lie to others, covering up mistakes, coming up with split-second lies when I panic even if they aren't necessary. Their favorite lie is saying "Yes" When I'm asked if I'm okay, or "No," When asked if I need anything.
Currently, Ava and Dee work very closely, and Ava will come up with nonsense to spurt up to days in advance.
But I'm working on it, and hopefully, Ava will become less a part of my life soon.
Alright! Now moving on to sides that aren't based off original characters! They're listed by time they were discovered.
Tumblr media
This is Dakota or Dee Dee. They use They/them, Fae/Faer, and Xe/Xim pronouns, depending on how I'm feeling.
Dakota is kind of an all-purpose OC, but Fae originated here. They're rambunctious, wild, sensitive, and an all-around awesome side.
But Fae's gone through a lot.
Before I knew about my Anxiety, ADHD, or Autism, I kind of lumped them all together and labeled them, "Things that are wrong with me."
I know that isn't true now, and a few years ago they went through an alteration. This isn't like DID or anything, just me changing how I view certain aspects of myself and how that reflects on the characters I've made up. Anxiety and ADHD are two different things now.
But very recently, I found out I have Autism, and Dee changed again. Now, the two are like Remus and roman and are twins. Anxiety is not related to them because they're categorized differently and it doesn't work for the dynamic.
So anyway, once again Xe has been left to pick up the pieces, Creating xier own Identity, and seeing which parts were them, and which were Autism.
Their stims are shaking xier hands, chewing, and bouncing.
đŸ“·
Tumblr media
This is gender identity and dysphoria, who's name is JD.
They look kinda evil, but they're really not. Just cryptic and confusing. Their color scheme is the nonbinary flag, (Black white yellow and purple, and it symbolizes how gender isn't black and white. (Cause those are the main colors)
I edited it myself on a crappy art thingy so don't mind it.
đŸ“·
Tumblr media
This is my Autism! I just found out about them recently, so I haven't decided on a name, but for now I'm just using Austin.
They use He/Him and They/Them pronouns. (They identify as agender, they just like those pronouns.)
I don't really know much about them. He's usually nonverbal, and when he's stressed his hair starts growing which is a sensory no-no for them.
He loves his sibling and is pretty tolerant with Sara studying them to figure out how they work.
Their stims are chewing, vocal, and texture.

Say Amen (Saturday Night)Chapter 4
Pairings: Prinxiety, side Logicality, Platonic Moxiety, Platonic/Family Logince.
Warnings: Cursing?
Words:4179
Summary: Sanders Sides Human College AU
Chapter 4- Nine in the Afternoon
~
Author’s Note- Very advised to get a hold of the song Welcome to the Black Parade- by My Chemical Romance.
~
After they finished gathering their things, Roman led Virgil out to the parking lot.
He slowly shuffled his feet as he caught up to Roman who walked up to open the trunk of a very nice red car. The symbol on the front of the car was a large L.
Virgil raised his eyes up from the ground to look at the vehicle with wide eyes.
“This is your car?” he roughly tossed his bag in the back set
“Yeah, I was hoping for a Lamborghini.” Roman joked with a wink as gently placed his bag in the trunk.
Virgil attempted silence small bitter voice in his head.
“When I was 14 and my cousin, Adora, got her Quiñceanera. She chose me to be her chambelĂĄn de honor or chosen escort. I was SOOOOOO JEALOUS!” He dramatically flourished with his hands as he grabbed the trunk lid and closed it shut. “So to bribe me my parents told me that they'd get me a car a year early.”
“Sorry but I have to ask, but I...I'm not sure what it is?” Virgil asked
“Oh uh, sorry” Roman apologized with a smile.
Virgil hummed as a response.
“It's the big birthday that Cis Latina girls get when they turn into 'women'. Silly and patriarchal, I know!” Roman added with a open palms gesture when he saw the eyebrow raise that Virgil gave. “But it was so fun, so fancy and beautiful!”
Roman pushed the key fob to unlock the car and they got themselves settled in.
“It's fucked up that other genders don't get anything like that.”
“Yeah I even stole the catalogue that she picked her dress out of. I cut out my favourites and glued my face on them. Put them all up and down my mirror.” Roman said with a proud smile remembering the happy memories.
Images of Roman in slinky cocktail dresses rushed into Virgil's mind. His face dropped to a small frown as he struggled to stop that particular train of thought.
Roman was unsure if he had said something that upset Virgil to make him clam up again.
"Uh you can pick the music if you'd like?” Roman offered as a break in the sudden silence. “CD's are in the middle.”
He waited for Virgil to buckle himself in before he pulled his car out of the parking lot. Virgil went through all the preset radio stations before opening the middle console.
“CD's? I would have thought that you would have your car set up with Spotify or Pandora or something like that?” he said as he opened opened the console and looked through the collection
“Eh, CD's are great. No commercials for long car trips. ”
All of the Cds were for musicals, a few that he had heard of like Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, and Guys and Dolls. And some that Virgil didn't know, Dear Evan Hanson, Six the Musical, and...Legally Blonde? He did not know that that was a musical.
Then he spotted one that Roman had mentioned.
“Um, any suggestions from Heathers? You said that I might like this the 7/11 song?”
“I usually go through the whole thing in order....but I suggest for you, Track number 4.”
“Could I get some context?” Virgil asked as he pressed the button for the track number.
“The uh, 7/11 scene in the movie...But in song.” Roman offered with a bit of a smug smile.
“I probably should have guessed that.” he admitted with a grumble.
Virgil closed his eyes as he listened to the song and imagined the scene in his head.
Just like in the Heathers movie JD was recounting to Veronica how he travelled all over the place because of his father. And because of that he didn't feel like he was able to connect to the people and places. No place felt like home, except for 7/11.
It was always a weird scene in Virgil's opinion. Like JD is just opening up to this person he just met and telling her his very strong feelings about a convenience store and Slushies.
Even though it was strange Virgil had to admit, it was a good song. Parts of the song were a little to close to home, like “When the voice in your head says you're better off dead”.
“So what do you think? ”
“Yeah I get it. Its good.”
“That's all?”  Roman asked exasperatedly
“I guess I was expecting something different???”
“Like what?”
“I just thought that JD was going to be a little more intense. Like crazy sounding or something?”
“Ah what YOU are searching for is 'Meant to Be Yours' number 17.”
He pressed the button until he reached the number and sat back in his seat to listen.
~
“So is that was you were expecting?” Roman asked as they exited the car after arriving at the store.
“Yeah, it was” Virgil smiled “Real Intense.”
The pair stopped after they reached to threshold to get their bearings.
“I get so lost in here.” Roman complained with a slight whine to his voice. “I don't usually do the grocery shopping.
Before Virgil could comment Roman continued.
“Lo likes to go to make sure that the budget is kept tight, but he's been so busy with his job. He just got his a new taker for his math tutoring.”
“So Logan's your brother?” Virgil
“My brother, well Step brother. My Mama married his Papa. When I was old enough to remember that I was getting a new family, but young enough that it's no longer weird.” Roman offered a little bit more information than necessary.
Roman briefly considered mentioning that he was at the party and Virgil had briefly seen him, but he didn't want to bring up the previous night.
At lest he didn't want to bring it up first.
They were getting along so well that he didn't want to make Virgil uncomfortable.
“Really, I grew up with him so he is my brother. Soooooo do you have any siblings?” Roman began to play with the sleeves of his jacket as he attempted a more personal question.
“Uh yeah, a older sister” he muttered.
“And her name is...?”
“Melantha,” he responded with little inflection “she prefers to be called Missy.”
“Melantha?! WOW, huh! Did your parents just grab a baby name book and open a page at random for ALL their kids!” Roman teased with a mocking laugh as they arrived at the Dairy and Juice section.
“Yeah haha, Virgil's got a weird name. I've NEVER heard that before.” Virgil rolled his eyes as his tone changed from frosty to salty. “You know Roman isn't really the most common name either.”
“I am far from COMMON! Besides I wasn't saying your name was BAD! It is 'strange and usual like you'.” Roman winked as he tried to steer their conversation back to more friendly waters.
“Quoting Beetljuice at me? You'll have to do better than that.” Virgil grinned in spite of himself as he grabbed a six pack of orange drink and placed it in the cart.
“Come on you gotta give a guy some credit for remembering what your interests are right?”
“Yeah I guess” he said with a reluctantly happier tone.
“Hey do you see the Almond Milk?” Roman asked after he finished his scan bottles and cartons.
“Uh no, I think that might be over in the Organic or like Vegan section. Why does your brother have you on a specialized diet as well as his, what was it? His extremist water agenda? What does that even mean?” Virgil chuckled as he took the cart from Roman and led him toward the other end of the store.
“It's just what I call his super weird thing about getting enough water everyday. And yeah he does keep our kitchen stocked with a lot of green veggies. Also he checks to sure I kept up a sleep schedule”
Virgil's eyebrows rose in surprise at hearing all things.
“Yikes, he sounds like a bit of a control freak...”
“Yeah he is sometimes. Like I have hide my Butterfinger stash from him.” Roman complained. “He's not as bad I make him sound...NEVER tell him I told you that.”
Roman went over to the shelf and looked over the choices, Soy, Almond, Lactose- Free lined the shelves.
“Oh and to answer why the special milk, I'm THINKING of starting the Paleo diet right now. My brother has no influence on this though, just want to try and see what works. I might try Keto if this one doesn't work for me.
“ah right.” Virgil nodded eyes slightly widened hoping that the look on his face didn't betrayal the fact that he did NOT know what the heck a Paleo or a Keto diet meant.
~
Virgil felt heard a chime from his pocket so he pulled out his phone.
“Hey I'm going to get this.” he shook his phone up to show Roman before he stepped away from the cold of the meat section.
Roman nodded in return as he turned to look at the selection of skinless chicken.
Virgil got a message from Green_Tea_Gay on his Instagram account, Anxious_On_Main.
'Hey so that “Study Partner” is a hot piece!'
'Remy do you have a point' Virgil replied
'Gurl do you know? have you seen his pics? HOW is he Single!!'
After the three little dots disappeared in their place were several pictures
His face reddened as he looked at the pictures of the previously mentioned selfies. Roman wearing tight jeans in front of a mirror with his backside captured on the camera. Another with him laying on his stomach caught at an angle getting his short clad behind in shot.
He quickly glanced over to Roman, who was still distracted.
He looked back at him phone and quickly texted back.
'Don't send me those!'
'They are posted to the public! I didn't hack his phone'
'I don't care, no more pics of his butt'
'K'
Just about the time he was going to put his phone back into his pocket another chime stopped him.
The next series of pictures were of Roman exercising posing with a dumbbell doing a curl, stretching, and other gym activities,
And the last was Roman in swimwear that exposed more skin than he thought was allowed outside of certain websites.
His body felt instant heat and he looked and took a few calming breaths before returning to message Remy.
'I said no more pics!'
'Sis you told me no pics of his ass'
'DO NOT SEND PICTURES OF ROMAN SANDERSON!'
'Easy there Baby! No need to get your knickers in a twist. I'm just trying to help. Look at what you will be missing if you don't Snatch. That. Up!'
'What the hell Rem! We are NOT getting together! He is not into me.'
'Nah sweetie, you should have been paying more attention. That is totally a smitten kitten'
'You are the worst'
'No I am literally the best and you two are soooo getting together. Don't worry I know I made my point.'
'You asshole'
'Enjoy the pictures ;)'
~
Roman noticed that after he returned from his handling of his phone business Virgil had gotten quiet again and seemed to shift his gaze away from Roman.
'Did I spent too much time with the chicken?'
They walked down to the breakfast aisle.
As Virgil picked up some a box of Count Chocula cereal Roman slowed the cart to a stop behind him.
“You can only get this one around this time of year” he looked at it with a fondness that made Roman's stomach flip.
“So what are you planning on making?” Roman asked as he leaned his arms on the handle bar of the cart.
“Making? Uh, nothing, just like a bowl of cereal.... like with milk...from a cow” Virgil tilted his head to one side.
Confusion on his face as he held up the box and gave it a shake.
Roman could feel heat creep over his face, he was very caught off guard by the unexpected softness on Virgil's face.
'Shit!...now he thinks I'm an idiot who doesn't know how to eat cereal!'
~
Virgil turned around and did not see Roman's flushed face as he hide his own.
Basic cereal... I guess I could be making something with it like a cereal bar or something? A cake? Maybe? It isnt very impressive...and it's probably not on the platleo diet or whatever it was...
They stood in awkward silence until Virgil turned back around.
“I guess that cereal isn't something that YOU would be eating.” he looked at the cart. “From what I see here, you eat like you are going to be in the next Avengers movie or something.”
“Thanks, I mean I try.” Roman said with his eyes downwards as his body did an uncharacteristic shy sway.
“Yeah, I gues if you workout half as much as you take all those pictures, you could get away with more than the occasional  Butterfinger.” Virgil's eyes widened as he realized what he had said.
'.. shut up! shut up! shut up!'
Roman's head snapped up to look at Virgil.
“You've seen my gyms pictures?” Roman asked in a whisper.
“Ah Yeah that's like all over your Instagram page,” he attempted to sound super casual
He did not sound casual.
Like at all
They felt a charged moment between them and the longer it went on the longer they were unsure of who was going to break the silence.
Roman took it upon himself to interrupt the quiet as he tool the box of chocolate cereal in hand.
“I like the marshmallow bats.” he said with sheepish smile.
~
When they returned to the car they loaded Roman's groceries into the trunk and Virgil's bags into the back seat. Then they got themselves settled in their seats.
“SO where am I uh dropping you off?” Roman asked as they pulled out of the parking lot.
“I live in the dorms," Virgil asked as he started his usual habit of checking all the radio stations. “You don't?”
He found a song that he seemed to like on one of stations, Roman recognized it as a song by Imagine Dragons.
“I live in a apartment a little bit away from the college, with Logan.”
“Um, I live in the north dorms.” Virgil said as he a small bit of nervousness as took his thumbnail between his teeth. “With Patton, my best friend.”
After that song ended, a G piano note began the next song. Roman vaguely recognized it from somewhere he couldn't place. He figured when it got to the singing part he would be able to identify it.
~
Virgil tensed out of both excitement and fear.
He was about to embarrassed himself in front of Roman.  At lest Roman was driving so he wouldn't be stared at. So he took a breath and let himself focus on the lyrics.
“When I was a young boy, my father took me into the city” Virgil sang out beautifully. “To see a marching band”
Roman's jaw dropped and his breath stilled. He felt like he was going to swoon.
He was so very grateful that they were at a red stoplight.
“He said, son, when you grow up Would you be the saviour of the broken The beaten, and the damned? He said, will you defeat them Your demons and all the non-believers?”
Virgil sang with closed eyes losing himself in the song. While Roman's heart thumped hard in his chest and he felt an assortment of warring emotions.
“The plans that they have made? Because one day I'll leave you A phantom to lead you in the summer To join the black parade”
As the song picked up in tempo Roman realized where he had heard this song before. He remembered that he had a few friends who were into My Chemical Romance, it was 'Welcome to the Black Parade'.
“When I was a young boy My father took me into the city To see a marching band He said, son, when you grow up Will you be the savior of the broken The beaten, and the damned?”
Virgil continued a little more intensely. As the song got more upbeat Roman joined Virgil in singing and continued his drive toward the dorm.
“Sometimes I get the feeling She's watching over me And other times I feel like I should go”
Virgil eyes popped wide open and he smiled.
“And through it all The rise and fall The bodies in the streets And when you're gone, we want you all to know
We'll carry on, we'll carry on And though you're dead and gone, believe me Your memory will carry on We'll carry on And in my heart I can't contain it The anthem won't explain it”
As Roman turned a corner they continued to sing together
“A world that sends you reeling From decimated dreams Your misery and hate will kill us all So paint it black And take it back Let's shout it loud and clear Defiant to the end We hear the call”
Roman followed the music with dramatic hand gestures as he continued driving with his left hand. Even Virgil joined in with less dramatic the hand motions.
“To carry on We'll carry on And though you're dead and gone, believe me Your memory will carry on We'll carry on And though you're broken and defeated Your weary widow marches”
Virgil sang with a full grinning face, his relief at Roman joining him in singing the song had caused him to relax and he was able to sing louder with more feeling.
“On and on, we carry through the fears (Oh, oh, oh) Disappointed faces of your peers (Oh, oh, oh)”
Take a look at me 'Cause I could not care at all”
Roman held onto the note at the end for a bit. Virgil continued on with the lyrics
Do or die, you'll never make me Because the world will never take my heart Go and try, you'll never break me We want it all, we wanna play this part I won't explain or say I'm sorry I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scar Give a cheer for all the broken Listen here, because it's who we are I'm just a man, I'm not a hero Just a boy, who had to sing this song I'm just a man, I'm not a hero I don't care
They arrived at the dorms parking lot and Roman parked.
We'll carry on We'll carry on And though you're dead and gone believe me Your memory will carry on You'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated Your weary widow marches on
Roman contuined his singing the longer held notes as they song concluded.
Do or die, you'll never make me Because the world will never take my heart Go and try, you'll never break me We want it all, we wanna play this part (We'll carry on) Do or die, you'll never make me (We'll carry on) Because the world will never take my heart (We'll carry on) Go and try, you'll never break me (We'll carry) We want it all, we wanna play this part (We'll carry on)
“We'll carry on!”
They both sang as the song ended to the sounds of drums.
At the conclusion of the song both Virgil and Roman were out of breath and grinning.
~
Roman felt his heart race.
He had thought that he had experienced maximum attraction that morning toward Virgil. But he was very wrong.
'Damnit Virgil why does your voice have to sound like sexy melted chocolate!'
He fought every instinct to just lean over and initiate a vehicular makeout session.
Roman caught a brief glimpse of Virgil's eyes peak out from underneath his bangs and he gave him a very full smile.
~
Virgil nervously took a glance at Roman from underneath his dark hair.
Roman had the brightest and most authentic smile that Virgil thought he ever saw on his face.
It wasn't like Virgil thought that Roman faked his other smiles, the feelings of joy and friendliness were not false. But it seemed a lot of the other smiles that Roman gave seemed too perfect, Virgil guessed he practised his expressions in front of a mirror.
This smile was of shear amazement, it was pointed in Virgil's direction. Like he could not believe what he heard, it caused Virgil to feel an annoying sensation in his chest.
“I didn't know you could sing” Roman spoke softly breaking the silence.
~
“Uh sure I guess I can sing a tune here or there.” Virgil shrugged with a dismissive sigh.
“I think its more than that!” Roman attempted to offer him a very sincere compliment.
“Yeah I'm not about to sell out stadiums anytime.” Virgil chuckled at the thought.
'I wish you were in a band. I'd buy all your albums. Be front row in your concerts, I'd....shit I can't tell him any of this!'
“So My Chemical Romance huh?” Roman said with a wide smirk.
“What about it?!”
“They are like the most clichĂ© Emo band ever.” Roman snickered.
“Ah cliche? Really YOU want to go there do you?!” Virgil said
“Whatever do you mean by that?” Roman asked with a raised eyebrow.
“For a theatre kid you would think you'd dress a bit more stylish or something?” Virgil attempted to say with an indifferent air.
“What like take the costume from Hot Mikado out around the quad?”
“Absolute no clue what that is.” Virgil laughed as he exited the vehicle.
“It's....never mind that. I have only dressed subtly to spare those around me. ” Roman responded as he walked to back of the car. “How would anyone be able to concentrate on their schooling if I were to show up in full regalia?!”
“Full Regalia, huh, you sure think highly of yourself don't you? I'm not sure you should be bragging quite so much.”
“Is that a formal challenge?” Roman felt his racing heart in his chest in the midst of their back and forth.
“Not sure how impressive you'll actually be, but I'll keep an open mind, I guess.” Virgil shrugged with a small smirk as he began to take out the bags.
'I'll show him'
Roman noticed a few heavier bags that he could chivalrously offer to help him with.
“I can help you carry some of your groceries to your dorm?”
“Ah you just want an excuse to come to my room.” Virgil teased in a deep low voice  as he waited for Roman to banter back.
“YES YOU BET I DO!!!!....play it cool, Roman play it cool!'
“N...no...! I uh... as a gentleman I ... have to help anyone I see that is in need...” Roman sputtered out before he took ahold of small package of bagels “You ...you have... you have to carry..lots there.”
~
Virgil read his flustering as a rejection of his flirtation.
“No thanks! I got it! ” he quickly and loudly shouted in a panic as he took the bag out of Roman's hands.
Virgil thought that he and Roman had just shared a moment together.
'You just were imaging it! You shouldn't have believed Remy, you complete moron! ' He sling his messenger bag over his shoulder.
Then he draped the loops of the several other bags onto each elbow crook. And then took another bag into his left hand.
As he struggled to stuff the bagel bag into an already full bag, Roman again attempted to offer help.
“It's not a problem!” Roman gestured to the bagels.
“NO! I got it” Virgil just wanted to disappear as quickly as he could. He then placed the plastic of the bag in between his teeth.
“Cee Ou ENESAH.” Virgil shouted through clenched teeth as he retreated.
“Uh yeah.” Roman spoke to an empty damp parking lot. “see you”

Author's Note
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PATIENCE SO SORRY for the long wait!
The long pause was due to new job and lack of constant access to a working computer.
I think I will still have a job later after the situation clears, but I am unsure....
I
ANYWAYS!
What do people think of me backtracking and converting all of the mentions of DEE to JAE? It won't be too much trouble as he has not even appeared yet.

Talk~Analogical Request
INFO -requested by @iwillsithereandtrytocontribute -dont fuck with virgil -black leather skirts are cool as fuck
TRIGGER WARNINGS -reference to bombing a school -violent threats
***
"Can that make a bomb?" "No Virgil." "Can that make a bomb?" "Yes, Virgil." "You should make a bomb and destroy the world." Logan sighs and sets down his beaker. He turns to look at Virgil, who is sitting on one of the tables with one earbud in, swinging his legs. "Is there a particular reason you are suddenly so interested in what can and cannot make a bomb? Are you going to..." Logan shuffles through the deck of vocab cards he has for Virgil and picks one out, "Pull a JD?" Virgil laughs, "No, it's not anything like that. Good job by the way." Logan smiles and returns the card to the deck, wrapping it with a rubber band. "Would you care to explain then? Or would you prefer to not talk about it?" Virgil sighs and lays on the table, "It's just... I'm so tired of people. I can't wear, do, or say anything without the risk of someone hating me or something."
Logan took the beaker and put it in a container for a teacher to deal with later, "What happened?" "I wore that black leather skirt that Remy bought for me and this one guy would leave me the fuck alone. I had to call someone to bring me pants." Logan discards his gloves and washes his hands before turning back to Virgil, "Do you know the name of this 'guy'?" Virgil shrugs, "He's tall and has brown hair. I think he's on the student council?" Logan instantly knows who Virgil is talking about. The same person is responsible for many transfers out of the school.  "Well, I'll see what I can do about that. Let's get you home now." Virgil hops off the table and follows Logan out of the room, grabbing his tie on the way out. Logan puts on his tie as Virgil talks about whatever band playing from his headphones.
After dropping Virgil off at home, Logan makes his way back to the school. Clubs are still going, which means the student council is there. He knocks on the student council door and finds who Virgil was talking about when he enters. "May we speak in the hall, please? It's an emergency." The guy shrugs and follows Logan into the hall, "Actually, I'd like to speak in the science lab. This is a matter pertaining to it." The guy just rolls his eyes and continues to follow Logan. Once in the science lab, Logan dons gloves and takes the beaker from its container. He turns it to the council member, "Do you know what this is?" He shakes his head and Logan answers, "It's a very strong chemical. Get this on your skin and it gets chemical burned. Get it on your scalp and your hair falls out. It would be a shame if it were to get in your shampoo, wouldn't it?"
The guy's eyes widen, "Hey, what are you sayin-" "I'm saying, if you do not apologize to Virgil by the end of the day tomorrow this will get in your hair gel and you'll go bald." "I could report you for this!" Logan sets down the beaker, "And I could report you for constantly harassing people to the point of dropping out just because they don't conform to your ideals. Which will it be? Apologize or go bald." The guy surrenders, "I'll apologize! Just don't use that shit on me." Logan smiles triumphantly, "Good. I'll be awaiting the news tomorrow." He lets the council member go and puts the chemical away again before going home for the night. The next day at lunch, Virgil told him in surprise of the apology. "What did you do?" "Talked to him."

Chapter 8
Before Logan could blink, Homecoming week had arrived. He sat at the breakfast table, a little bleary eyed from sleep, picking at his eggs.
“Logan?” Thomas sat across from his son. “You okay?”
Logan bit his tongue, knowing that he had to come up with an excuse unrelated to Roman. “I’m fine. I’m just...debating whether or not I want to dress up today. The theme is a bit ridiculous.”
“What is it?”
Rolling his eyes, Logan said, “Onesie day. Something about being comfortable during a movie marathon.”
“Don’t you own a onesie?” Thomas asked. Preston walked into the room, kissing Thomas on the cheek. Thomas gave him a smile before continuing. “In fact, wasn’t it a gift from the two of us?”
Blood rushed to Logan’s cheeks. “Yes, but...it’s not proper attire for school.”
“It is this week. And besides, don’t you get points for dressing up? The more people that dress up, the more likely your chance of being the winning class at the pep rally, right?”
Appealing to Logan’s competitive streak won out. He shoveled the rest of his food into his mouth before racing up the stairs to get dressed. The points had completely slipped his mind, and he’d be damned if he didn’t help his class win.
It only took a few moments for him to slip on the onesie. The hood was left off, knowing that some teachers would still consider it a “hat” and make him take it off anyway.
“Lo? Ready to go?” Thomas called out, before laughing at his rhyme.
Grabbing his backpack, Logan headed down the stairs and to the car. The short drive to the school was relatively silent, filled only with the various pop songs taking over the radio.
Logan’s nerves buzzed as they pulled up to the school. It would be humiliating if he’d gotten the day wrong.
Shaking his head, he cleared those thoughts. His Google calendar was linked to the school calendar. It would be almost impossible for him to get the date wrong.
“Love you!” Thomas said as Logan got out of the car.
“Love you too.”
Walking quickly, Logan headed to Mx. Stokes’ class. Hardly anyone gave him a second glance, other than a few friendly kids who merely waved at him as they headed past.
As he walked into the classroom, he was slightly shocked to see Roman sitting at his desk, dressed in a lion onesie. From what he’d heard, the so-called popular kids usually didn’t participate in that kind of thing.
He supposed that was what he got for listening to rumors.
Roman’s face lit up in a blinding smile as his eyes landed on Logan. “I didn’t think you would be one to participate in this, nerd.”
It was strange how a nickname that had once filled him with rage was now endearing.
“I assumed you didn’t have a onesie in your fashion sense.”
Laughter bubbled out of Roman, the sound making Logan blush ever so slightly. Damn his stupid crush.
The bell rang and Mx. Stokes got out of their chair. They were wearing a Pikachu onesie.
“All right, let’s get you guys counted up. Freshman who are dressed up, please raise your hand. And only if you’re dressed up, I swear I’ll subtract points if you aren’t.”
The threat was an empty one, but it worked nonetheless. They quickly worked their way up the classes, nodding to Logan and Roman as they counted them.
“I do like your onesie though.” Roman whispered as Mx. Stokes continued counting. “Unicorns are awesome.”
“You like unicorns?”
Roman nodded. “If I had my way, I’d live in a fantasy world. Ideally, I’d be a prince and do the saving, but I wouldn’t mind being saved every once in a while.”
Logan couldn’t help but stare at that adorable shy smile on Roman’s face. His heart pounded in his chest, reminding him just how gay he was for this man.
“Alright, I know we’ve done quite a bit so far and the test is on Wednesday. So how about a review game?”
The whole class cheered as the familiar tune to Jeopardy filled the room.
As soon as lunch rolled around, Logan found himself at a table with Remy and Emile again. It was starting to become a regular thing.
“Ohhhh, your onesie is so cute!” Emile squealed as he spotted Logan. He then threw his hood up and gave a little twirl, showing off his Totoro onesie.
Remy wasn’t far behind him. The man’s eyes raked over Emile as he spun. And while Emile may have been oblivious, Logan was not. He shot Remy a look, making him flush pink.
“How come you’re not dressed up?” Logan asked as they began to eat.
Remy sipped on his drink before giving an answer. “I’m not really into the whole ‘dressing up’ thing.”
“But you love Halloween!” Emile protested. “How is this different?”
“He does have a point, Remy.” Logan sat up a little straighter. “Besides, the whole point of the dress up week is school pride. It’s meant to bring everyone together as a unit.”
“And it’s fun!”
Logan could see Remy’s walls crumbling down. It took a few more seconds of Logan’s staring and Emile’s puppy dog eyes before they broke completely.
“All right, fine. What’s tomorrow’s day?”
Grabbing his planner, Logan flipped it open. “It looks like tomorrow is Red Carpet day.”
Instantly, mischief filled Remy’s eyes. He flipped his sunglasses back down. “I can definitely work with that.”
“Don’t do something that’ll get you in trouble.”
Emile’s comment got a wounded look from Remy. “Trouble? Whatever do you mean?”
Remy’s mischievous idea came to light the next day, when he came to the lunch table wearing what could be called a little black dress, complete with fishnet tights and studded heels.
“How are you even walking in those?” Logan asked, somewhat impressed.
Remy winked at him. “Practice, babe-uh, Logan.”
“I can’t believe that you haven’t gotten detention for that yet.” Emile said as he sat down, dusting off his white suit. “And Lo, you look really handsome today!”
Logan tugged at his black bowtie, which went perfectly with his three-piece navy suit. “Thank you, Emile. Though you might want to tell Remy how nice he looks before he gets too jealous.”
“I’m not jealous!”
The next day, Logan couldn’t help but smile as Remy and Emile came to the table as a Ruby and Sapphire for Cartoon Day. Remy was much more subdued than normal, while Emile was more than ecstatic.
“You’re happy today.”
Emile nodded, bouncing up and down. “Remy asked me to Homecoming last night!”
As Emile babbled on about how Remy had done it, something to do with cartoons, Logan couldn’t help but smile.
If Remy could do it and Virgil could do it, why couldn’t he? Perhaps he could give Roman the note at the football game.
“That’s a great idea!” Emile said, an encouraging smile on his face.
Logan paled. “I-I said that out loud?”
“Yeah, you did. Though maybe you should do that around Roman, you’d probably ask him then.”
“Remy!”
“What, I’m just teasing him, babe.”
Emile’s face flushed at the nickname. “You should definitely ask him though. I heard him turning down Steve the other day.”
Logan relayed this information to Virgil in study hall, his thoughts not as positive as they once were. “Perhaps he wants to go alone.”
“He doesn’t. Trust me.” Virgil tugged on his sweater sleeves. “He might be loud and a little pretentious, but it’s all an act. On the inside, he’s insecure and he wants someone to talk to about the things he can’t.”
“How do you know this?”
Virgil gestured to himself. “This whole loner emo persona is the same thing.”
“Virgil -”
“It’s fine, I’ve got people now. I don’t...I don’t feel as lonely as I used to.” A smile wormed its way onto Virgil’s face. “It helps when your boyf- when your date threatens to fight you if you talk bad about yourself.”
Favorite character day was mostly uneventful, with Logan getting a lot of compliments on his stunning cosplay of Connor from Detroit: Become Human. Logan had really played up the whole robot persona, making Virgil crack up in study hall.
“Forgive me for asking, but which character is this?” Logan gestured to Virgil’s outfit.
“Oh, I’m JD.” Virgil said, flipping the collar of his coat. “It’s from Heathers, which is both a movie and a musical, so I get if you haven’t seen it. His character is actually terrible, but it fits my aesthetic. But I bet you Roman has seen it.”
Logan couldn’t have stopped his blush if he tried. “I’m not going to watch it just because Roman may or may not have seen it.”
“Sure.” Virgil teased, nudging Logan’s shoulder. “Did you figure out when you’re going to ask him?”
“I don’t know.”
Before Logan could panic, Virgil laid a hand on his arm. “Relax, Lo. You’ve got this. Maybe try after the pep rally tomorrow?”
“Yeah. That’s a good idea.”
The bell rang, leaving Logan more nervous than ever.

Heartland 13x10 - The Passing of the Torch review
Tumblr media
Remi for MVP. She may be just a dog but that also makes it a hell of a lot harder to “act” or contain how the dog acts within scenes, even if Remi is a seasoned actor being around for 13 seasons. I can’t help but notice that some of the “acting” after Remi was healed, like Remi approaching Amy when she was with Ty was not acting.
Also how about the promo pics clearly misleading that only Amy got hurt when really Ty did too but none of us caught it because he got shot in the abdomen and all promo pics showed him sitting down? Clever, clever.
Also, where was Katie this episode?! Was Katie not there to support her mom? Or did I totally just miss her in the scenes because even Peter was there... so if she wasn’t with her fam (WHO WAS ALL AT MAGGIES) where the heck was she?!?!!?
Looking at the credits, I think I just totally missed Katie because she’s credited sooo um oooops lmao
Amy/Ty
Spartan seems to have found a bound with wild horse (I don’t know the horses name okay), so Amy decides to try to tame the wild horse. She’s especially high strung because she’s still emotional about Spartan getting old and his recent injury and the look on Amy’s face when wild horse accidentally kicks Spartan in the leg is pure distress. A look of “What did I do?!? I was doing this for Spartan not to hurt him.”
Amy’s genuine sadness about Spartan, even though - as Ty says, his ligament is completely healed and they’re going to treat his arthritis (which is completely normal for older horses too per Amber’s post on IG) is also completely understandable because it is her last living link, besides the family home and her family - to her mother, especially since her mother died saving Spartan.
After a heartfelt conversation with Ty, and all seems well (Ty is even cleaning up the new house?!), things come crashing down and Amy and Ty get shot by sniper guy while aiming for the wolf. Luckily, they’re going to be okay (I mean... obviously?) and Ty was able to catch the license plate but this could have ended a lot worse. But this is Heartland.. did we really think either would die?
In the end, Amy is able to complete a join up with wild horse and Spartan and her family is there to watch it and it’s really just a wonderful way to end the season/episode. More Marion flashbacks about her younger life please! I loved the flashback to her first Spartan join up from S1X01. It was like Spartan was given Amy his blessing to ride a new horse so that he can rest his legs.
Can I also add, how cute was Lyndy when Ty pointed out that wild horse was coming and she turned her head and said horsey? What a scene stealer!
Georgie & Quinn
So, the real reason Georgie quit was because she missed Quinn? I guess thats somewhat realistic but, like where is the joy she had for jumping and competing before she met Quinn? It wasn’t as if she suddenly started loving jumping because of Quinn when she went to Europe. Why does she suddenly correlate being with Quinn to loving jumping when she had a passion for it pre-Quinn?
Narys the point though, because she goes to Kelowna to confess her love to Quinn and he just doesn’t know what to say, even if he’s been wanting to hear it for awhile. Do I blame him? No - it’s a lot to handle and not everyone responds to an ‘I love you’ in the same way. Anyone remember Gilmore Girls and how Rory and Dean broke up because she didn’t say i love you back how Dean expected? However... could he have responded better? Yes. He just seemed to walk away to collect his ribbon even though he acknowledges he’s been waiting to hear those three words, eight letters for oh so long. At the same time, she could have stuck around till after to have a full conversation - not one that is going to be interrupted by him having to go collect his ribbon and in the middle of the competition.
I mean, I get leaving because she felt that Quinn didn’t care any more but to me, it seemed fairly obvious that Quinn and the girl were just friends; however, Georgie was probably in a heightened emotional state so I don’t particularly blame her for thinking the worst. Although, perhaps if she had stuck around and waited, they could have talked and she wouldn’t have come home crying.
“Give me a reason to stay and I will” - Quinn
And just like that, Quinn is staying (funny how this always just works out eh?). He took a coaching job (which I suppose he realized is his calling) at a stable in Hudson, gets a snazzy nickname Golden Boy from Tim (who appears to not have a problem with Quinn since he doesn’t dote on the fact that he caught his granddaughter kissing another guy) and looks like he’s going to be here for the long term.
Perhaps he’s even going to be Georgie’s coach?! That was definitely the first thing I thought when I heard that Quinn was going to be coaching. I will say, i do like them together and they do fit better than her past boyfriends, but I don’t think i’ve seen enough of them to make a solid judgement until next season at least. Here’s to their relationship being more stable than Lou and Mitch’s!
Lou
How ironic; just as Tim says asks where Mitch, Lou’s supposed boyfriend (okay, he actually is her boyfriend but not the point) is to support her during the campaign, PETER shows up to support her. Irony at its’ best. And I suppose, ideally, Mitch is at their summer-turned-business home taking care of the herd but if Tim’s infer that Mitch hasn’t been around at all, yet Peter found the time to come from BC and help hand out posters and go door to door, then it’s a valid question.
Peter’s advice to not start up a shit storm with JD Worth when she hears about the snares is... probably correct but Lou’s assertion that JD is behind the snares is also 100% correct.
It’s probably correct to infer that sniper guy was trying to shoot the wolf but how STUPID is he to shoot at a wolf if he doesn’t have a clear shot and there are people around? How do you miss seeing two humans in the same shot? Luckily, Lou is able to pinpoint that the same truck sped out of there is the one JD Worth went to talk too after their chat AND Ty is able to grab the license plate. And she knows she has JD almost in a corner by the smile on her face.
In the end, Lou wins (not due to sniper guy ratting out JD but a win is a win I suppose) to no ones shock whose seen the promo pictures; even JD is indicted in his role in this mess! However... she does lose her boyfriend, who seems to think that Peter is winning Lou’s affection. I understand why he thinks that but Lou and Peter have worked hard to become friends after a messy separation, Peter is... uh dating Jen?, and he will have to live with the fact that they will always have a bond a a relationship. Look how far Caleb/Ty/Amy have gotten!
What about Lou defining herself as ex-wife... who defines herself as an ex-wife? On gravestones, you say ‘loving wife, mother, sister, daughter...’ etc but no one defines themselves as an ex-wife? That was just strange. What’s even stranger is that Mitch seemed to think the tipping point of their relationship was when Lou didn’t mention she was a girlfriend too... and while i suppose in the context that she mentioned ex-wife but not girlfriend, it makes sense but in the grand scheme of things, no one really defines themselves as a girlfriend. Plus, if they were really stable, this wouldn’t be an issue, but from what it sounds like, Mitch has been away a lot due to his new business and they haven’t been seeing much of each other. Even if this truly was an oversight, the fact that she remembered Peter before Mitch does say something.
On a whole, what’s going to happen with that vacation-turned-work property they bought? And seriously, will they ever get their shit together and be together together, because if they aren’t then I sure hope they don’t ever get back together again because this isn’t healthy. How do they decide to buy a house together to deciding that they aren’t fully committed to each other? Be together, or don’t be together y’all.
Jack
Jack feels that he ‘dug his heels in a little too much’ when Mitch kept on asking about expanding the herd and I can’t tell if this is brought on by wanting to make Lou’s life easier or because he feels bad or because he really wants to expand the herd. The idea to invite Mitch back into the partnership is a nice utopia but at the end of the day, Tim is right. Mitch isn’t family (by marriage of blood), but more family “family friend because he’s been around the farm so much” relationship and should Lou/Mitch breakup it would easily complicate things even further.. and given how unstable they’ve been keeping separate may not be a bad idea.
*LOL i wrote the above before Lou and Mitch officially broke up so I guess I saw the future. Perhaps it was a good thing they didn’t get back in business considering how on-off these two are!
OVERALL
This season was good - there was no Mongolia and more family storylines. I enjoyed Amy’s arc with Spartan, Ty not jetting off to Mongolia and being their for their fam, seeing Lisa and Fairfield(!) - even the election wasn’t a bad storyline and I enjoyed Quinn’s character. All the throwbacks to the past with the painting and the flashbacks to Jack’s life were also great to see and learn about.
I didn’t enjoy Casey’s one-episode arc nor the Lou/Mitch storyline (just decide to be together or not!!). And even thought it brought “drama”, the whole Wes “bad review” story line felt a little contrived and forced but in the grand scheme of things, besides some plot points which seemed out of character or continuation issues, the season picked up by near the end.
I mean, no one went to Mongolia and almost died - why would you when you can get shot in your own backyard? (jokes)

Flirting, Fighting and Faking Your Way Through College Pt. 3
Summary: Virgil goes for a walk but it’s not exactly as he expected. He goes to our favourite nerd for advice.
A/N: The writing and story pacing and plot in general are all over the place but I’m a gay mess so...
Story Text:
Virgil needed a walk.
After 3 hours with the shoulder angel and demon that were Emile and Remy, Virgil felt like he’d gotten nowhere. His anxiety meant he didn’t have the guts to simply ask Roman out but it also meant the flirting was becoming exhausting and intimidating. If you asked him this was a recipe for disaster, Roman was probably just pulling some practical joke on him anyway. He couldn’t actually like him, he wasn’t cute, he wasn’t nice and no way was he Roman’s type. Virgil had seen the type of guys and girls Ro had gone home with and dated in the past; Jocks, theatre kids, classic pretty boys, cute girls, cheerleader types. Virgil wasn’t any of that. He was a gothy art student sophomore here on a scholarship, with no discerning qualities, minus crippling anxiety and depression. Yeah, grade-A boyfriend material Virge.
So.. here he was... walking and...guess that fall weather finally decided to kick in because - rain! He shut his eyes and faced the sky, letting the water run over his skin. He didn’t care anymore, this was nice, so what if his nice jeans were getting soaked. He sighed, maybe he could just stand here forever and then he wouldn’t have to deal with the amazing but oh so obnoxious Roman Prince. But ah, if only reality were that kind. As soon as the thought entered his mind, there was Roman, as if summoned by it.
“Goodness JD-lightful, what are you doing out in the rain like this?! You’ll catch a cold!” He pulled him under the red umbrella he was carrying and smiled down at the smaller man, fussing over him and offering him his jacket. Virgil swiftly declined but smirked and moved in closer to his side. “If I got sick would you take care of me Ro?” He winked. Roman just laughed and put an arm around his shoulder, pulling him in closer. “I’ll always take care of you kitten,” Now if ask him Virgil will deny it with every bone in his body but, he did actually squeak at the nickname. This was too much, it was exhausting, he hated it, but boy, did he love it.
“Hey Lo, when’s our next landscape design class?”
Logan Crofter was startled out of his thoughts by a familiar but tired voice, his dormmate wore an exhausted expression and an even more exhausted hoodie. Virge had had a bad night by the looks of it. “Um hello Virgil, I understand this probably is not the news you would like to hear right now but...it’s in 30 minutes,” and as the words left Logan’s mouth Virgil collapsed down into the bench he was sat at. Lo placed a tentative arm around the smaller man’s shoulder and smiled slightly when he leaned into the embrace.
“Hey, I’m definitely no Patton but if you want to talk about it I’m right here Virge,” he said running a hand through his friends hair.
“I-I it’s just like, I don’t-,” The sophomore took a deep breath, trying his best to control the emotions bubbling up inside him. “Just the assignment’s due this week and I have three extra shifts and I ran out of pills last night and Roman’s being, well, Roman and it’s all- it’s all just-“ V buried his head further into his serious roommate’s shoulder and finally let go the tears that had threatened to break the surface all morning. Believe it or not, Virgil loved Logan’s advice most. The stoic and cynical man was a huge help in moments like this. He always made sense, always let him cry but always called him on his shit and always made sure that he didn’t overthink the problems he was facing. After about a minute of sobbing and comforting, Logan finally spoke, lifting Virgil’s head to face him and wiping tears from his cheeks. “You’re okay V, breathe, let us come up with a plan. In fact, here’s what we’re gonna do-“ The ‘plan’ mostly consisted of coffee, surviving Prof. Stokes’ class, promising to walk to the pharmacy afterwards and laughing at Roman, but boy did it help. By the end of 20 minutes and for the first time all week, Virgil was smiling. “Hey Lo, um thanks man. For all this I mean... and the latte I swear I’ll pay you back,”
Logan simply chuckled and shook his head “Let’s get to class,”
Virgil grinned and wiped one last tear from his face. “Nerd,”

Rehearsal
Yeah imma continue as a bitch can’t sleep wat up and I’m not sure how rehearsal works so imma wing it
-
The cast sit on the stage in their casual comfortable clothes, the first day of rehearsal. They had months to prepare, their outfits being worked on at the moment. They decided to not change much as this was now a male Heathers musical, just the name Veronica to Victor was being tested. Roman, Dolos, and Virgil were off in one corner practicaing Candy Store, Patton reading his dialogue and huffs, Logan humming softly as he read his lines.
“How and I supposed to be this...dark? I don’t wanna screw up,” Patton whines and flips the page, reading through it, “It would’ve been easier to be Martha!”
“Getting cold feet now?” Thomas, the director, chuckles as he walks over.
“N-no!” Patton shakes his head and blushes, “I’m just not used to...well, acting like this. This character fits Virgil or Dolos more, heck even Roman!”
“Yes, you’re right,” Thomas nods, everybody now looking over, “But so do you. You have a somewhat baby face, but there is something about you that fits this role. Make it yours, Patton, you’ll get the hang of it. Alright! Everybody up! We’re going to start with Beautiful!”
Everybody scrambled up, Logan going towards Patton and places a hand on his shoulder. Patton turns to him and gives a small tight lip smile.
“Hey, you got this. I’ll help you practice afterward, and maybe even Virgil will give advice how to give off a dark aura,” Logan says softly, seeing Patton nod slowly.
“Thanks Logan,” Patton nods and sighs, “I’m just scared to screw up. I did so bad when I auditioned for Newsies.”
“But you were able to get a place and learned the crazy dance steps. You got this,” Logan ruffles his hair and chuckles, walking away to his spot.
Patton watches him and lets out a small fond huff, smiling and walks off with others.
During rehearsals, Logan was doing well with his place, Roman breaking character as Logan belted out the ending part of Beautiful. It was a shock to everyone how he could hold that note. Candy Store soon came up, Patton having to hold back a laugh at how Virgil looked so done playing McNamara (Thomas had them redue the song two times). Roman was into being Chandler, Dolos giving off the best annoyed look he could when pushed down (he was annoyed). Patton lets out a shaky breath as it was his time to come out, standing up straight and nods.
The fight scene was easy, Patton smirking at how he got the hang of it. He wondered why he was so nervous. For it being just the first rehearsal, it was going smoothly. Thomas would step in and explain what Patton could do better, and he took in the advice. After Fight For Me was done, they took a small break and continued on. The ensemble would also be given tips, being pulled aside for a small practice. Soon, Freeze Your Brain was starting, and Patton surprised everyone at how well he could do it. Logan did his best to not blush, seeing how Patton was just in it. He still could sense he could work on giving out the energy needed for this character.
As it moved onto the party scene and they were singing Big Fun, there were many cuts as Virgil would burst out laughing at Logan trying to sound drunk. Logan himself was laughing, not being able to do so as the last time he was drunk was when he was in high school at some lame party. Remy and Nate would also laugh at their lyrics, not being able to breathe. Virgil once more would laugh, along with others, at the scene where Veronica taunts Duke. Dolos was even impressed he couldn’t pull off an angry look.
Roman was excited to see Dead Girl Walking after the dialogue scene, both Logan and Patton a blushing mess. They also stuttered when Logan had to sound, well, sex hungry. Then when it came to Logan having to straddle him, Patton covers his face and squeals. Everybody laughs, seeing how both were shy at having to do this (while their friends knew it was more because those two were crushing on each other hard). After a few stops, Thomas even found it amusing, they got serious and did it. When they kissed and grinded down, they both almost forgot they were on stage. Quickly, they kept in character and moved on soon to The Me Inside of Me.
Patton giggles at some of the things said, and how annoyed Roman has to sound. They let it slide, since it was kind of funny. Even Logan added a few extra words just to mess with Roman. Roman huffs and sticks out his tongue, doing excellent on sounding and looking frustrated and then soon excited when saying “I’m bigger than John Lenon!” Dolos rocked the part where he took control, Virgil even feeling a chill down his spine at the look he had. They were all right. Heather Duke was the best part for Dolos. Soon came up Blue, and Logan was uncomfortable the whole time. Pretty much everyone was, even Remy and Nate who were playing Kurt and Ram and Dolos and Virgil, who’s character let it happen without trying to stop it. Sadly, that was part of theater.
When the song Our Love is God was up, they all wondered how Patton would do. Even Logan was curious, seeing as this was the the major part where Veronica realizes just how manic and dangerous JD is. Logan, once again, almost forgot that he was on stage when Patton would touch him and just wanted another kiss. As the shooting scene crept up, everybody froze at the deranged look Patton had in his eyes as he had to run after Nate and sang his part. Logan was frozen, forgetting his line for a millisecond and even Thomas was taken back.
“...Fifteen minute break everyone,” Thomas calls out after the song, sitting down and staring at his lap with wide eyes.
“Why is everyone quiet?” Patton asks, back to his normal self and smiles.
“You...” Roman waves his hand, not being able to form words.
“How did you get into the character JD so fast?” One member of the ensemble asks.
“Oh! Well, I am a horror movie fan and I really love Heathers, so I kinda mixed it together,” Patton confesses and giggles (making everyone breathe out), “And while it’s hard to explain, I just imagine me being some serial killer who is kind of like a vigilante.”
“I don’t understand completely, but I think I get it,” A female member of the ensemble says and smiles, “You’re doing so amazing, Patton! I can’t wait for Meant To Be Yours!”
“I’m more excited about Seventeen!” Patton chats with members of the ensemble, back to his bubbly self.
“That was something,” Virgil says and drinks his water.
“I think Thomas did correct,” Dolos shrugs, “Patton always does get the innocent roles, or the quiet shy characters. I think this will do him good to explore other parts. He is an amazing actor and singer, so it’s beneficial for him to not stick with one part. Also, look at him,” He nods towards Patton who was laughing, “He’s more confident.”
“He is,” Logan smiles fondly, “He still needs some work, but he’s got it down.”
“Oi! Logan! How come you never told us you could hold a note that long?!” Roman points an accusing finger at him, “You two are full of surprise today! Also, you killed it with Dead Girl Walking!”
“Thanks,” He blushes and rubs his arm, “Just a matter of getting in the mindset.”
“You too need to start exploring different roles,” Virgil tells him, “You can’t always go for the nerd one or the one being held back into second place. You’re talented, so show it.”
“I’ll try,” He chuckles, “But since I rarely try out, I just stick to roles I think will fit me best.”
“Any role can fit you if you try,” Roman hums, “Hell, you might be even more talented than me.”
“Oh shut up,” He throws his towel at Roman, who laughs in response.
“Alright! Fifteen minutes up! Let’s start Act two!” Thomas calls out.
“Alright, let’s do this!” Patton cheers and giggles, going to where his place will be at.

A Slice Of My Love. Chapter 8. The One Where I Get Sent Downstairs And Em Gives You One Of The Stupidest Things She's Come Up With.
Hello, my children! If you saw the teaser then you know where this is going. I think writing about Virgil losing his sanity is making me lose mine. Anywho, it’s serious talk time.
Parings: Vilonso/Deathbread. (Oh god that felt weird to write. I’m normally the person who looks at people’s ocs, not the person who makes ocs.)
Tw: Heathers and Be More Chill references, cursing, a slight NSFW mention (if you’ve listened to the song More Than Survive you know what I’m getting at), bomb mention, the death/murder of the fourth wall, and Virgil being insane. (The norm for this book)
Ok here’s a new thing: I’m going to link the four songs that are mentioned/sang/used:
I Am Damaged (from Heathers tw: explosions, suicide, and suicide mention): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlVxhg-HVCk
Candy Store (from Heathers):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQOoTX1Nxx8
More Than Survive (from Be More Chill): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuOrwWdJFEs
Voices In My Head (from Be More Chill): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvpaivDBwQs
(Both Be More Chill songs the original cast recording because I listened to like 6 lines of More Than Survive from the Broadway one and hated it. (Will Connolly is SOOO much better for Jeremy) Look at this!! I’ve only been into this show for two days (on the day of publishing this chapter) and I have incredibly strong opinions already!!! And Heathers is the world premiere cast recording because you can hate me later, I hate the West End version of Heathers. They used the HIGH SCHOOL replacement for Blue!! I can tangent more about how much I hate the West End version of Heathers and the Broadway version of BMC later if you so wish.)
Virgil’s POV
----
“Virgil, could you please go downstairs?” Patton asked me.
Well, good luck to princey. I think we just got Ramen murdered. Oops, I did it again. I played with your- Why are you like this? Why are either of you like this?
I let go of Roman’s hand and begrudgingly went downstairs. I want to know what they were saying. Actually, I think I can find out.
Em, what are they talking about?
(Now is not the time for you to find out.)
You’re writing this chapter before you write what they’re saying, aren’t you?
(Umm
 Maybe!! But I have notes!!!)
Ahh yes, the very “scientific notes” you have that are written in cursive, with the all caps too because you're just extra like that.
“FaLsEhOoD!!!!!!!!!”
I jumped at Logan’s screech. Jesus!! What was that for?
(Dunno, it was funny.)
You know what will be funny? Seeing how you work that into the next chapter.
(Virgil, Virgil, Virgil, I already know how I’m gonna add that to the story. I’m decently smart when I feel like it.)
I can just hear the angry readers. Like I said in chapter 2, there is no fourth wall for this cautionary tale. For my chapters at least. OH!! That’s a funny idea.
(To the tune of I am Damaged)
It is damaged.
Far to damaged.
The readers think it’s not beyond repair.
I’ll stick around here.
I won’t make things better.
Cause Em’s beat us fair and square.
Step away from the wall now.
Little further.
I know what this thing will do.
Hope you miss it.
Please don’t kiss it.
I don’t need to know that you worship it.
It won’t trade its life for yours.
(Virgil what are you doing?)
And once it disappears,
(I’m in love with the reference but I’m confused.)
There’ll be a mess down here.
(Why do you have a bomb?)
Say bye to the wall.
Say bye to the wall.
Say bye to the wall.
Say bye to the wall.
(*Snaps fingers* There’s no more wall.)
What the? Why did you take my bomb?
(This is why Roman is JD.)
It would’ve been fine.
(You were planning to throw a bomb at the fourth wall. How would that have ended well?)
Magic!
(Ok. Yeah. We’re done. I’m gonna go now. I’ll still be the present force giving you existence. But I’m done with you. Too much lack of basic intelligence here.)
Well, at least I can have a bomb again.
(Oh yeah! And no more bombs.)
Whatever.
I was too busy talking with Em to notice Alonso on the counter again. It startled me. But now I had the perfect opportunity to talk to him without getting interrupted.
“How long have you been sitting there?”
He’d been staring at me since I came downstairs I think. He got off the counter and walked over to me. “Ehh. Not too long.”
You know what? He’s like really sketchy. We’re gonna question him to the ends of this Earth.
“How did you get here?”
“I just appeared.”
That’s a constructive answer. “No like the first time. I could’ve sworn that it was only me and Pat in the kitchen.”
“Yeah I kinda just appeared then too. Also, sweety stop slouching and your bangs!! Who the hell gave you permission to walk around with your hair like that?”
That’s who he reminded me of. The critic character from Thomas’ last video. I told Roman that the character was too similar to Remy, as the fans have dubbed the sleep character from Thomas’ shorts. Did he listen? No.
The fans didn’t care though. The love the critic. If I’m not mistaken this one discord server has dubbed him “Critic Anton Dice”. (Shout out to all my wonderful friends in the The Kinds Of Minds You’d Only Find In Hell discord server! Y’all are amazing!!!)
Still something else though. I can’t quite place my finger on it and it’s pissing me off.
That something else is why you think he’s hot. Not true. It is true. Remy pisses us off, the critic guy is an ass. It’s that something else. Both of you need to shut up or I’m yeeting myself out a goddamn window!!
That shut them both up.
“Yeah, I don’t give a fuck about my hair or posture. And not gonna lie, your ‘appearing’ is kinda creepy.”
He rolled his eyes at me and fixed my bangs. “Ugh! Fine if you won’t fix them yourself I’ll do it.”
He fussed over my hair for quite some time. Once he finished, he finally brought up the ‘just appearing thing’.
“Don’t you just appear?”
I took mild offense to that. See? We don’t think he’s hot. He’s just an ass. The something else is hot. Can you both just stop? The option to yeet me out a window is still on the table. Just saying.
Anyways. I took mild offense to that. “See that’s the thing.” You have no clue how badly I wanted to say ‘with you plastics’. Not the time tho. “I appear in a not creepy way. You just pop up on the counter and don’t make a sound. It’s kinda terrifying.”
He scoffed at me. “Does it look like I care?” I rolled my eyes. “Anyways, do you guys have any coffee?” He asked.
There we go there is the Remy. You’re not wrong. Ya know, it’s kinda nice to have the voices in your head get along for once. SHUT UP!! BESIDES, HE’S STARING!!! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO GET HIM COFFEE!!! GODDAMN!!! CALM THE FUCK DOWN!!! BOTH OF YOU!!!
I played of the incredibly pissed voices in my head like they were nothing and answered Alonso’s question. “Uhh, yeah we have coffee, but it’s like noon now.”
“Do I look like I care? This bitch needs his Starbucks.”
“We have coffee, not Starbucks.”
“Whatever, I just need caffeine.”
Huh. This guy really is Remy, isn’t he? Yeah, he is. I need coffee too so it’s a win-win.
I walked to the kitchen and started making coffee. While the coffee machine was doing coffee machine things, I was sitting on the counter. Alonso had started looking through the cabinets.
I cocked my head to the side messing up my recently “fixed” bangs.
“What are you doing?”
“Looking for sugar. You got any?”
“Yeah. It’s in that cabinet.” I pointed out the one that should have the sugar. I have no clue if it does. He went to the cabinet that I had told him that the sugar should be in and started combing through it.
I stared at the coffee machine, waiting for it to finish. I had subconsciously started to drum my hands on the counter-top. “C-c-c-come on!! C-c-c-come on!! Go! Go! C-c-c-come on!! C-c-c-come on!! Go! Go!”
Ok. You have no right to judge me. I fricken love Be More Chill. I continued with the song. Slowly getting louder. “I’m waiting for my porno to load. My brain is gonna fricken explode.”
The coffee finished. I grabbed two mugs, still singing. Like I said, I fricken love Be More Chill. I’m not gonna sit there and only sing 4 lines of More Than Survive. Also, the next part of the song fits.
“And now, of course, it’s time to hit the road.” I poured some coffee into the mugs “Which means I’ll be uncomfortable all day, but that really isn’t such a change. If I'm not feeling weird or super strange, my life would be in utter disarray. 'Cause freaking out is my okay.”
If Jeremy Heere isn’t me than I have no clue what is. “Good morning time to start the day.”
“But it’s noon.”
I jumped at the voice. I may or may not have forgotten that Alsonso was still there. I attempted to recover from the very obvious fact that I’d forgotten about his existence.
“It’s called Be More Chill. Have you ever heard of it?”
He had found the sugar and it was sitting on the table. I brought over the two coffee mugs.
He scoffed. “Of course I’ve heard of Be More Chill!! What rock do you assume I’m living under??”
Extra bitch. You’re not wrong though.
Me, being the idiot I am, actually, I’m not an idiot. This rather creepy man is. You don’t just interrupt someone jamming out to a Be More Chill song like that.
“So why did you interrupt me?”
He gave me this look of judgment. But judgment and something I couldn’t read.
What is it with you and not being able to read things today? First the something else and now this?
Yet another way I relate to Jeremy Heere. I could feel myself zoning out again.
“And there are voices in my head. So many voices in my head. And they can yell and hurt like hell, but I know that I'll be fine. I still have voices in my head. Yeah, there are voices in my head. Of the voices in my head, the loudest one is mine!” I had started singing again. “Loudest one is mine! Loudest one is mine!”
I was snapped out of my thoughts by Roman walking downstairs and screaming “C-C-C-COME ON!! C-C-C-COME ON!! LET’S GO!!!”
One thing that y’all need to know about being best fucken friends with Roman: He will randomly start screeching lyrics from random musical theater/Disney songs at random times.
In that moment, I was singing Voices In My Head. This added the idea/impulse (you never know with Roman) to his brain to either join in at some random part or jump in once I had stopped, even if that meant restarting the song. We don’t care.
Yes, we.
Roman doesn’t give a fuck.
I don’t have any fucks to give.
Anywho, I joined him. “C-C-C-COME ON!! C-C-C-COME ON!! LET’S GO!!!”
I heard Logan groan behind him. “OH MY GOD!! BOTH OF YOU NEED TO SHUT UP!!!!”
I locked eyes with Roman to make sure that we were in sync for the plan that was forming in our heads.
I stood up. Roman steamed “SHUT UP HEATHER!!!!” I very over dramatically fell on the floor. Roman then began to sing the Candy Store riff. I quickly stood up and sang “TIME FOR YOU TO PROVE YOU’RE NOT A LAME ASS ANYMORE!!!”
We both came in for the end. “AND STEP INTO MY CANDY STORE!!! IT’S MY CANDY STORE, IT’S MY CANDY!!!! IT’S MY CANDY STORE, IT’S MY CANDY!!!! IT’S MY CANDY STORE, IT’S MY CANDY SOOOORE!!!!!!”
We looked at Patton and Lo-, well, he had gone upstairs again. So we looked at Pat. He looked like he was about to flip his lid.
I mean, Pat had never been one for Heathers, or BMC, because of the death, murder, sex, cursing, drinking, and drugs/smoking in the shows. It’s sad though!!! All of the good shows are the ones that aren’t 100% kid-friendly!!
I looked back at Roman. We began to laugh hysterically.
I realized that Alonso wasn’t there anymore. Like anywhere.
But I didn’t care.
Right now wasn’t about Alonso.
Right now was about me being a theater geek with my best friend.
----
Y’all can judge me later for all of the BMC and Heathers references!!! Heathers is Virgil’s favorite and then BMC. Fight me.
I would say that this chapter is the longest, but it’s only because of my theater tangent (which is a half a page long on google docs) in the first A/N. (The chapter is 5 pages on Google Docs)
Oof. Umm. I don’t like this chapter very much. Well, not as much as the others. I like it more than other chapters, but I still don’t like it. But not enough dislike to rewrite it.
Also, I failed my own goal. I WANTED to make this chapter post 666 on @i-can-get-extra-with-my-ships, but it’s post 695. *Sad author/theater geek/prinxietea trash goblin noises*
But I guess that this is my birthday present to myself? I’m posting this on chapter on September 22. My birthday is September 23. Ehh. Good enough.
----
Ok, so before this gets really confusing:
This is the main voice inside Virgil’s head.
This is the other voice in Virgil’s head.
This is the two voices together.
(This is me, the author, Em, talking to Virgil, adding a random A/N in the middle of the chapter, or just establishing something like a stage direction almost. Ex. (To the tune of I Am Damaged) in this chapter. The difference between this one and the one above it is the parentheses.)
----
The now almost 13-year-old “author” (that isn't really an author),
                            Em
(P.s with the sign-off and this part, the chapter is now just barely over 5 pages long on google docs. I need to cool it with the A/Ns. No one cares/reads the A/N. Why do I tell you guys this random crap?)

It started off one morning as Patton and Logan cuddled in bed, chatting about this and that, mainly enjoying each other’s company and trying to avoid leaving the warmth of the bed as long as they could. The excitement of Halloween soon took over their conversation.
“I can’t wait for Remy and Emile’s Halloween party! It’s gonna be so much fun!”
“Indeed,” Logan agreed, “I’m looking forward to our couples costume of Han Solo and Princess Leia.”
Patton smiled up at Logan, “Me too!”
“Speaking of costumes, would you have any ideas on who Virgil should be for Halloween? He asked me the other day and I wasn’t sure what to suggest.”
“Hmm,” Patton thought for a moment, they’d all agreed to keep their costumes a surprise, but Roman told him in secret he was planning to go as Veronica from Heathers, and an idea clicked, “He should go as JD from Heathers!”
“I suppose he would be able to pull off that look quite well with his ‘dark persona.’”
Patton nodded, trying to contain his excitement. He’d been trying to get Roman and Virgil to confess their feelings to each other for forever now, and this might be just what they needed!
“Would you suggest it next time you see him? I think he’d trust the idea more if it came from you.”
“Sure thing!” Patton couldn’t stop smiling. This was going to be a Halloween to remember.
~*~
“C’mon, Roman! We’re ready to go!” Patton called up the stairs.
Roman called back down, “A prince has got to slay!”
“Is he still doing his makeup?” Virgil asked.
“Apparently so.”
“How much longer will you be?” Patton asked.
“Just a minute!”
“You said that five minutes ago!” Logan called.
Roman made a mocking noise, causing Logan to huff and sit back on the sofa.
Patton joined him, sitting between him and Virgil.
“Your costumes are really cute,” Virgil admitted.
“Aww! Thank you!” Patton grinned, “I thought it’d be appropriate since he’s the ‘Hansologan’ to my ‘Patton Leia’.”
“Ready!” Roman called. The sound of ‘Beautiful’ could be heard, specifically the part of the song that went, “Veronica, Veronica, Veronica, Veronicaaaaa.” And as it played, Roman strutted down the stairs in his costume, striking a pose at the end.
Virgil watched in awe, Roman really did look beautiful, of course he’d never say that to his face, but he couldn’t help admiring how amazing Roman looked in that blue outfit- wait. He was going as JD... and Roman was. Oh no.
“Wow, Roman! You look amazing!” Patton exclaimed.
“I know,” he smiled smugly, “But thank you.”
Roman got a chance to look at the rest of their costumes, “Oh my! Look at you two! That’s adorable!”
Patton couldn’t help but giggle, “Thanks!”
It was then that Roman caught sight of Virgil, who was dressed as JD... his first instinct was to squeal, admire Virgil’s costume tell him he looked gorgeous, but he knew Virgil’s limits, and doing that would make it very clear he had feelings for the other, and he wasn’t ready to face them yet.
“Virgil! You’re JD and I’m Veronica!”
“Yeah, I noticed.”
Roman and Virgil looked at Patton for an explanation, knowing he was somehow behind this, but he played innocent, “What a coincidence! Isn’t it great? Now we have two couples costumes!”
Both boys blushed, “Indeed we do... Well! Let’s be hasty! Wouldn’t want to be late for the party!”
~*~
They chatted as they walked to Remy and Emile’s House down the street.
“It is rather ironic that Veronica and JD are going to a party, like in Heathers,” Logan pointed out.
“Yeah!” Patton exclaimed, “It’s like Big Fun! Only JD is going too!”
“If we’d all been Be More Chill characters it would’ve been more ironic since it’s a Halloween party,” Virgil commented.
“Ooh! True, true!” Roman chimed in, “There’s an idea for next year!”
“I call Michael!” Virgil called out.
“Then I call Jeremy!” Both of them blushed, Roman realized what he said. He really had to think before he spoke.
“Ooh! Logan, you’d be good as the squip!” Patton pointed out.
“Hm, the role seems fitting. You would make a good Christine, you’re both sweet and full of energy.”
“Aww! You’re too sweet Lo!” Patton kissed his cheek.
They continued walking, Virgil and Roman mostly in silence, until they finally arrived at the party.
~*~
The house was decorated to be spooky- not terrifying, but spooky. Patton, Logan, and Emile were sitting together on the couch, chatting about cartoons and therapy. Roman was catching up with an old friend while Virgil found himself standing in a corner, chatting with Remy.
“So then I mentioned ‘Be More Chill’ and Roman said something about going as those characters next year. Me being me, I said, “I call Michael,” and then he said, and I quote, “Then I call Jeremy!” And that was almost immediately after I said I wanted to be Michael. And then we sorta looked at each other and he looked kinda nervous.”
Remy sipped his drink, nodding.
“Do you think its cause he wanted to do another couples costume thing together cause he wants to be with me and was nervous about admitting it? Or is it that I called Michael, he wanted to be Michael, and Jeremy was his second pick, so he said that, realized what it sounded like, and got nervous cause he wasn’t trying to imply that he wanted to be with me?”
“Okay, gurl, calm down, you’re overthinking things. I don’t know what he feels, but you know who does?”
“Who?”
“Roman.”
“I can’t ask him about this! What if he doesn’t feel the same?”
“Only one way to find out. Would you rather go on, never knowing how he felt and never have any chance at being with him?”
“No...”
“Then ask him, gurl! He’s on his way over here right now.”
Virgil looked over and sure enough, Roman was heading towards them.
“I’m gonna go ‘grab some more punch,’” Remy winked at Virgil as he left him.
“Hey, Virge, you alright? I know crowds aren’t really your thing, so...”
Virgil nodded, “I’m good... but there’s something I wanted to ask you.”
“Okay.”
Virgil took a breath, now or never, “Do you... um,” he swallowed, summoning all the braveness in him. C’mon, Virgil! Spit it out! “Do you wanna go out sometime?”
Roman’s eyes flew wide, oh no. This couldn’t be good. “I’d love to.” Wait, what?
Roman had an awed smile on his face, accompanied by a beautiful blush.
“Really?” Virgil couldn’t believe it.
“Of course! Why wouldn’t I? I’ve been in love with you for over a year-“ Roman shut his mouth, he needed to learn when to stop talking.
Virgil chuckled, “Well, that’s good, cause I’ve felt the same for over a year now.”
Roman grinned, “May I hug you?”
Virgil nodded opening his arms.
They hugged, and as they pulled away Virgil spoke, “You know, you have something in common with Veronica.”
“What’s that?”
“You’re beautiful.”
The honest admiration in Virgil’s voice caught Roman off guard, and if his heart hadn’t already been captured by Virgil, that would’ve done the trick.
Roman melted, a giddy smile appearing on his face as he giggled, cupping Virgil’s face and bringing him in for a kiss that Virgil returned before pulling away, “You’re beautiful too.”
~*~
“That was so much fun!” Patton stumbled, Logan holding him by his side, “Okay, so next year-“
“My heart, let's worry about that tomorrow, we need to get you home in one piece first.”
“But we gotta start planning if we want it to be the best!”
“Patton, Halloween is over! Tomorrow begins the Christmas season! We need to start preparing for that!”
Patton gasped, losing his balance slightly, “You’re absolutely right! We gotta start thinking about Christmas!”
“But what about Thanksgiving?” Logan asked.
“Oh boy,” Virgil mumbled.
As Patton began ranting to Logan about how Thanksgiving is based on lies and Christmas is better, Roman held Virgil close to his side.
“I hope I run into someone under the mistletoe this year,” he winked at Virgil.
Virgil rolled his eyes fondly, before almost running into Patton and Logan, realizing at the last second they’d stopped walking.
“Wait,” Patton turned around grinning, “Did I hear something about mistletoe?”
Roman blushed, holding Virgil closer, “Maybe...”
Patton squealed, “Aaaah! It worked! You two got together! Finally!”
“Wait, what worked?” Virgil raised an eyebrow.
“Well, Roman told me he was gonna be Veronica, and Logan said you weren’t sure who to go as, so,, I may have set you up?” Patton had the decency to look sheepish.
“I knew you were behind this somehow, padre... but thank you.”
“Yeah, thanks,” Virgil put a small smile on his lips.
“I just couldn’t wait to finally get you two pinning lovebirds together!” Patton was jumping up and down.
Logan held Patton to his side, “Alright, someone’s had a bit too much candy, let’s get you home so you can sleep.”
“I’m not tired! I can stay up all night!”
~*~
A few minutes later a sleeping Patton was getting a piggyback ride home from Logan, as Roman and Virgil walked home behind them.
Roman glanced over at Virgil and admired the way he looked, the moonlight cast shadows on his face that perfectly highlighted his features.
Virgil caught Roman staring and blushed slightly, “What?”
“Oh, nothing, it’s just...”
“What?”
“You’re beautiful.”
Virgil smiled, pressing a kiss to Roman’s lips before they continued on their way home.

Virgil glances down at his phone as it buzzes with an incoming text. He grins when he sees Roman’s name and unlocks the phone, reading the text.
Wanna come over and watch movies, JD-Lightful? :D
Virgil rolls his eyes and texts back.
sure dude, as long as you dont pick any more dumb musicals this time
D:< NEWSIES IS A CLASSIC
actually pretty sure to be a classic it has to be old
and good
HOW DARE just get your emo butt over here, i miss you </3
Virgil laughs, typing out his reply and sending it before rolling out of bed to get ready.
relax romeo
im getting ready, be there in 20
Virgil’s phone buzzes again, but he ignores it in favor of pulling his torn black jeans over his hips and tying the laces of his black boots. It’s probably just Roman letting him know he read the text, anyways. He throws his hoodie on and pockets his phone and wallet, exiting his room.
He walks through the apartment, spotting Patton and Logan on the couch and waving to them. “Heading over to Roman’s, I’ll be back later.”
Patton turns to look at him, smiling. “Okay kiddo! You gonna be home in time for dinner?”
Virgil shrugs. “I dunno. I’ll text you if not, ‘kay?”
Patton nods and goes back to watching the movie. Logan waves goodbye to him before watching the movie as well, and the front door shuts.
Virgil trots down the stairs, turning on the sidewalk to head towards Roman’s place. He actually doesn’t live that far from the park that Virgil likes to visit, so he won’t be walking for long. As he passes the park, he looks around at the various families and health-nuts dotting the playground and trails. He smiles lightly. It’s been such a good few months, despite some minor hiccups, and this is probably the best he’s felt since he left Dee. He still gets nightmares, and he still has panic attacks, but thanks to the support he has they’re becoming more of a rarity.
He passes the park and keeps walking until he makes it to an apartment complex that’s admittedly more high-end than the one he and Patton live in. He checks his phone to make sure he remembers the apartment number and climbs the steps once he finds the right building, knocking hesitantly. The door bursts open almost instantly to show an excited Roman in a white shirt and red flannel pajama bottoms. Virgil laughs.
“Dude, it’s like, almost noon.”
Roman steps aside to let him in, grinning. “So? This is my apartment, I do what I want.”
Virgil rolls his eyes. “Sure, okay.” He plops down on the couch and grins at Roman as he sits down next to him. “So what’re we watchin’?” Roman shrugs and grabs his remote, switching the TV to Netflix. “What do you feel like watching?”
Virgil groans and flops onto his side, his head in Roman’s lap. Roman runs his fingers through Virgil’s purple locks. “Why would you ask that? Now we’ll never pick a movie. We’re stuck in the ‘I don’t know, what do you wanna watch’ loop. You know I hate loops.”
Roman laughs. “Fine, how about The Little Mermaid?”
Virgil nods. “Sounds good.”
Roman puts the movie on and sets the remote aside, still running his fingers through Virgil’s hair as the movie starts. Virgil doesn’t bother telling him to stop or sitting up; he likes this, and he doesn’t get enough physical contact, in his humble opinion. He always feels awkward asking Patton for hugs, and he’s seemed kind of busy anyways. The two men watch the movie in relative silence, if you don’t include Roman singing along quietly. It’s nice to just spend time relaxing like this, not worrying, not stressing, no intrusive thoughts of the past or anxieties.
After the movie’s over, Roman gets up to make them some popcorn. He comes back to find that Virgil is still laying down, effectively in Roman’s spot, and rests the popcorn bowl on Virgil’s pelvis in retaliation. Virgil huffs and sits up, holding the bowl, and goes right back to laying in Roman’s lap once he’s seated. Roman puts on Pocahontas, relaxing back into his couch and grabbing a handful of popcorn as it starts. “And for the record I’m not playing the second movie after this. It’s contrived romance-forcing garbage.”
Virgil looks up with a smirk and a raised eyebrow. “Wow, I never thought I’d ever hear you say something negative about Disney.”
Roman huffs. “The sequel is horrible! They could have left well enough alone, but they just had to continue it and have Pocahontas fall for another man. It’s PocaSmith erasure!”
“...Poca...Smith
?”
“Shut up, it’s their ship name.”
Virgil laughs. “Whatever you say.”
Virgil is so relaxed by the time Pocahontas is over that he doesn’t realize which movie Roman chose afterwards until the music starts. Oh no. Oh, shit.
Beauty and the Beast.
Virgil took a deep breath. It was okay. It was fine. He just
. Had to keep calm. Yeah. He couldn’t tell Roman to change the movie; he’d ask why, and Virgil would have to tell him the truth because he’s such a bad liar, and then Roman would pity him, or be disgusted by him, or hate him for ruining Disney, or-.
Okay, no, that is not how you stay calm, Virgil. Deep breaths.
Roman lightly scratches at Virgil’s scalp. He can’t tell what’s going on in Virgil’s head, but he can sense how tense Virgil is and knows Virgil might need something grounding to focus on. Virgil would thank him if being grounded didn’t mean having to focus on the movie.
Belle walked down the path from her house into the village, singing the beginning song. His breathing picked up just slightly with the pacing of the song. He can do this. Concentrate. Breathe. Gaston is introduced, and Virgil feels like he’s going to be sick. He can feel the ghost of lips on his shoulder and neck. He rubs them roughly to chase off the feeling.
“Virgil? Are you okay?”
Virgil nods, forcing his voice past his lips. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
Roman doesn’t look like he believes him, but he drops it.
Philip and Belle’s father enter the woods, and Virgil’s breathing starts to pick up again. He feels like he’s back on that couch with Dee, sitting quietly as the other bites and sucks marks into his neck. He sits up, the feeling of Roman’s leg against his cheek making him nauseous.
“Virgil?”
Virgil shakes his head. Belle starts singing. He can’t breathe. Roman says something, but he doesn’t hear it. All he can hear is Dee questioning him. “Are you saying you don’t love me, Virgil? That you don’t think I’m attractive?” Virgil whimpers and curls in on himself, clamping his hands over his ears and tucking his head between his knees.
“Virgil!”
Virgil lets out a choked-off scream, the sound absolutely pitiful and completely heartbreaking. The ghost of Dee’s hands on him, in him, is suffocating him, stealing his breath and making his thoughts spiral. Hands on him make him scream and he scrambles off the couch, his head smacking into the coffee table in his struggle. He distantly hears his name being called, but all he’s focused on is getting away, getting somewhere safe, getting away from Dee. His back presses into a corner and he curls in on himself again.
The noise from the TV stops, and soft footsteps shuffle closer. Virgil grips and pulls at his hair, scratches his neck and shoulders and arms, trying to chase off the ghost of Dee’s touch. Someone - Roman, Virgil’s foggy mind supplies - takes his hands to keep him from doing any more damage to himself.
“Virgil, you need to breathe. Come on, in for four, hold for seven, out for eight.” He leads Virgil through the exercise a few times until he’s breathing normally, though he’s still curled up in the corner. Roman frowns in concern, running his thumbs over Virgil’s knuckles. “Wanna talk about it?” Virgil has a far-off look in his eyes, but he blinks a few times and it goes away. He nods, glancing down at his lap.
“I uh
I don’t like Beauty and the Beast.”
Roman raises an eyebrow slightly. “Well I kind of got that
 but why?”
Virgil’s face pinches, and Roman squeezes his hands reassuringly. Virgil takes a deep breath and starts explaining.
He explains how, a couple months before they met, he’d been watching Beauty and the Beast with Dee. He tells Roman that he’d tried his hardest to be good, and Dee rewarded him by putting on his favorite movie. His voice starts to waver as he describes how Dee used the movie to distract Virgil, pushing his boundaries until Virgil had to say something. He closes his eyes and tells Roman how Dee had questioned his love and pressured him into sex, how he hadn’t wanted it but he’d been terrified that Dee would beat him, or leave him. He cries as he tells Roman how Dee had gone in dry, how much it hurt, how Dee had ruined Be Our Guest and walked away when he was done.
Roman holds his arms open in a question, and Virgil hugs his friend tightly. Roman runs a hand through Virgil’s hair as he calms himself down again. “I’m so sorry that happened to you, Virge
. Why didn’t you say something sooner? I would have changed the movie.”
Virgil whines. “I didn’t want you to
. Be disgusted, or
or think less of me.” Roman’s frown deepens and he sighs, sitting back on the heels of his hands.
“I told you about Remy, right?”
Virgil nods. “Yeah, a little. You told me he was
 kind of like Dee.”
Roman nods.
“I met Remy back in my freshman year of college. He was loud, sassy, impulsive, had a horrible sense of direction, and was easily the most flamboyant person I’ve ever met. We hit it off instantly at a college frat party and our romance, as they say, was hot and heavy. We had more
physical chemistry than emotional, I think. Before I knew what was happening he was pressuring me into skipping classes to have sex, getting me drunk so I wouldn’t ‘harsh his mood’ and leave, dragging me to parties when I should have been studying or doing homework. I failed all my classes that semester, and had to retake everything. I was so mad at him, but I didn’t break it off.”
Virgil’s eyebrows were furrowed, looking angry and confused. “Why?”
Roman shakes his head, shrugging. “I’m not completely sure. I think, at the time, I told myself we could do better, that we could talk through our problems. I thought I loved him.
“As expected, things only got worse. I dropped out my third year because I was still struggling through classes. I tried to talk to Remy about all the partying, about being more responsible, getting a job since I wasn’t in college anymore. He didn’t really like that. He said if I got a job he’d never see me.”
Virgil flinches slightly at the familiar words.
“He started saying things that would make me doubt myself. I questioned every decision I made, from the outfits I wore to the food I cooked - Remy would always comment that I was getting fat. I started hating myself, hating how I looked, how I acted. I needed Remy to validate me, like I needed air. And when he would get mad at me and say something that didn’t even sound like an insult but it just had this tone and you knew you did something - I never hated myself more.”
Virgil chews on his lip, looking down at his hands. “So then
. How’d you leave him? I know that’s- I know it can be hard
”
Roman nods. “Actually, I was pretty lucky. He broke up with me.”
Virgil looks up, surprised. “Seriously?”
Roman nods again. “He said he was tired of how clingy I’d become. Found someone who was more self-assured, whatever he meant by that. I’m not sure. But! That was the end. It took
a while, but I recovered. And you’ll recover, too. I promise.”
Virgil smiles weakly. “Thanks, Ro.”
Roman stands, offering his hand to Virgil. “Of course. What do you want to watch?”
Virgil thinks as they walk back over to the couch and sit, Virgil leaning into Roman’s side a bit. “Moana?”
Roman smiles, wrapping an arm around Virgil. “Perfect.”

The Plastics: Phase 2
(Phase 1 - part 1, part 2)
—————
“I’m so sorry, sweetheart!” Roman was looming over the sink, trying his best not to stare at his boyfriend.
His very much shirtless boyfriend.
Roman knew how much Virgil loved his 7-Eleven slurpees. (Part of him liked the fact that his boyfriend was a less-homicidal version of JD.) But sadly, so did Remy. So when Remy told Roman to throw Virgil’s slurpee at him... he couldn’t argue against that.
It was Remy, after all.
But he isn’t going to complain about his boyfriend being shirtless.
“It’s perfectly fine, it was just a slurpee.” Virgil gave Roman a smile that he would never be caught, dead or alive, giving to anyone. “Just... do you have a spare shirt?”
“Do you mind that it’s Wednesday?”
—
Having lunch with the Plastics was like leaving the real world and entering “Popular World”. And Popular World had a lot of rules.
“You can’t wear a tank top two days in a row,” Roman told me. “And we only wear track pants on Fridays.”
Well... letïżœïżœs consider the issue with the statement. That day, both Remy and Roman were wearing jeans. Remy’s blue, and Roman’s white. Their shirts were pink, though.
And Emile... yeah. He was in a skirt.
“I mean, not just you. Like, any of us. Okay, like, if I was wearing track pants today, I would be sitting over there with the drama kids.” Emile started giggling. “You think this is a joke? Drama club is not a joke.”
“We know, Roman.”
“Oh, and we always vote before we ask someone to eat lunch with us, because you have to be considerate of the rest of the group.” Understandable. “Well, I mean, you wouldn’t buy clothes without asking your friends first if they look good on you.”
“I wouldn’t?”
“Right. Oh, and it’s the same with guys.” I think this was when Roman’s leg started jumping. “Like, you may think you like someone, but you could be wrong.”
And then Roman looked at Virgil. Who was playing with a pair of aviators. Well... if I had to guess...
“A hundred and twenty calories, and forty-eight calories from fat...” So Remy could read labels. Nice. “What percent is that?”
“Forty-eight into one-twenty...?”
“I’m only eating foods with less than 30% calories from fat.”
“It’s 40%.” The confused looks I got from Remy and Roman were... weird. Let’s call them weird. “Well, 48 over 120 equals X over 100, and then you cross-multiply and get the value of X.”
“...whatever. I’m getting cheese fries.”
Sure, Remy. Sure.
As soon as Remy got away, though... Roman started talking. “So, have you seen any guys that you think are cute yet?”
“We’re all gay here,” Emile said. I think to himself. I hope to himself.
“Well...” Better be honest. “There’s this guy in my calculus class-”
“Who is it?”
“It’s a senior?” Yes, Roman. It’s a senior.
“His name’s Patton Graham.”
If I had to compare this moment to anything... it would probably be a bomb drop. Roman started a chorus of “no”s, with Emile joining in every now and again.
“Oh no, you can’t like Patton Graham!”
The literal angel descended from heaven to grace this world with his beauty and overall being? Sure. Why? Can you explain why, Roman? Huh? You wanna try an explanation, bitch?
“That’s Remy’s ex-boyfriend.”
Oh.
“They went out for a year.” Thankfully, this was said by Emile. Roman’s voice was starting to annoy me.
“Yeah.” And... we’re back. “And he was devastated when Patton broke up with him last summer.”
“I thought he dumped him for Ollie Hendricks.”
“Okay, irregardless. Ex-boyfriends are just off-limits to friends. I mean, that’s just, like... the rules of feminism. Or something.”
I swear I heard Virgil snort.
“Don’t worry. I’ll never tell Remy what you said. It’ll be our little secret.”
I seriously doubted it.
—
“We define the sum of the infinite geometric series...”
Even though I wasn’t allowed to like Patton, I was still allowed to look at him. And think about him. And talk to him.
“Hey, Pat-”
“Hey, you’re the Africa guy, right?” A guy (who, to be fair, looks like a top hat would just fit him perfectly, he’s just that kind of creepy) asked me. As I was going to talk to Patton.
Rude much?
“Yeah.”
“I’m Dorian Pechmann, captain of the North Shore Mathletes. We participate in math challenges against other high schools around the state, and we’re missing a member. You should think about joining.”
“Oh, you’d be perfect for it!” Our teacher - Ms. Torres - jumped in.
“Yeah, definitely.”
“Great, great. Let me give you my card!”
This guy has a card...?
‘Dorian Pechmann - Math Enthusiast/Bad-ass M.C.’
It even includes his phone number. Lovely.
“Okay, so... think it over. Cause we’d like to actually compete this year.”
Okay...
—
Patton actually almost talked to me later that day, if only Remy didn’t pull up near the football field and screamed “get in, loser, we’re going shopping!”
Remy is like the Barbie doll I never had. I’d never seen anybody so glamorous.
“So how do you like North Shore?” Emile asked me in the mall.
“It’s good. I think I’m joining the mathletes.”
And again with the booming chorus of no.
“You cannot do that,” Remy said. Incredibly harsh for a valley girl. “This is social suicide. Damn, you are so lucky you have us to guide you!”
And then Roman spaced out. And I could see why. Over in the shop we were passing...
There was Virgil.
I was starting to suspect more and more.
Being at Old Orchard Mall kind of reminded me of being home in Africa. By the watering hole. When the animals are in heat.
“Oh my god there’s Jason!”
“Where? ...oh, there he is.”
“And he’s with Taylor Wedell!”
Remember Jason? From the cafeteria? Yeah. The poor person he was now picking up...
Was a girl.
“I heard they’re going out.”
“Wait...” Remy’s smirk grew into a vicious smile. If we can call it that. “Jason’s not going out with Taylor. No. He cannot blow you off like that. He’s such a little skeez. Give me your phone.”
“You’re not gonna call him... right?”
“Do you think I’m an idiot?”
“No.”
It took Remy exactly three seconds to dial up a number - how exactly? - and ask for “Wedell on South Boulevard.”
“Caller ID-”
“Not when you connect from Information.” And then, “Hello, may I please speak to Taylor Wedell?”
I swear his voice became more feminine when he said that.
“Oh, this is Susan from Planned Parenthood. I have her test results. If you could have her give me a call as soon as she can. It’s urgent. Thank you!”
And then, “she’s not going out with anyone.”
“Okay,” Roman said, finally smiling. “That was so fetch!”
It took just a couple seconds after that for Taylor Wedell to run away screaming.
—
Remy’s house was bigger than I have ever known a house to be. His step-mom was incredibly plastic-y, like a tv trophy wife or something, and his sister - oh god, his sister! His poor, sweet, innocent preteen sister - was watching MTV.
I honestly don’t think the content was entirely age appropriate.
His step-mom also offered us drinks that could have passed for alcoholic, which was even more worrying for a second.
But his room...
“It was my parents’ room,” Remy told me. “But I made them trade me.”
Bitch...
Even worse, bitch who flaunts around his ex-boyfriends. Like all the pictures of Patton he has hanging on his door.
“Logan, do you even know who sings this?” Remy asked me about the music that was playing on the radio.
“Umm... One Direction?”
“Oh my god, I love him! He’s like a Martian!”
Is that a... compliment...?
“God, my hips are huge!” Emile was checking himself out in the mirror... why?
Is that what friends do...? Gay people as a whole...? What?
“Oh please, I hate my calves.” Something about Roman’s tone sounded incredibly fake.
“At least you guys don’t have huge shoulders.”
I used to think there was just fat and skinny. Apparently, there’s a lot of things that can be wrong about your body.
And so, after listing about eleven hundred things that are wrong about their bodies, they turned to me. Expected me to talk.
Well... “I have really bad breath in the morning.”
“...ew.”
And then, “Oh my god, I remember this!” Emile was holding a pink album.
‘The Burn Book.’
“I haven’t looked at that in forever! Come check it out, Logan!”
“It’s our Burn Book,” Roman told me. “See, we cut out pictures of people from the yearbook, mostly girls, sometimes also guys, and then we wrote comments.”
“Trang Pak is a grotsky little bitch.” “Still true!”
“Dawn Schweitzer is a fat virgin.” “Still half true!”
“Amber d’Alessio masturbated with a hot dog.”
“Virgil Thompson,” Emile read out. “Stoner.”
Wait, what?
“Who is that?”
“I think it’s that kid Thomas,” Roman said. His voice still sounded... well, off.
“Yeah. He’s almost too gay to function.”
“Ha, that’s funny! Put that in there.”
Oh no. What have I done. Maybe that was only okay when Virgil said it.
—
“And they have this book, this Burn Book, where they write mean things about a lot of people in our grade.”
Virgil looked incredibly enthusiastic. Maybe a bit too much for the situation.
“What does it say about me?”
That you’re a stoner. “You’re not in it.”
“Those assholes.” He seemed to enjoy it far too much.
“Will this minimize my pores?” Thomas was holding a tube of... whatever cream that was.
“No. Logan, you gotta steal that book.”
“No way!”
“Oh, come on! We could publish it and then everybody would see what a dick he really is!”
“I don’t steal.”
“That is for your feet!” Virgil literally snatched the new cream from Thomas’ hands the second he brought it up. “Logan, there are two kinds of evil people. People who do evil stuff, and people who see evil stuff being done and don’t try to stop it.”
“Does that mean I’m morally obligated to burn that lady’s outfit?”
Thomas really shouldn’t have said that, probably.
“Oh my god, that’s Ms. Torres.”
“I love seeing teachers outside of school! It’s like seeing a dog walk on its hind legs!”
“Oh, hey, guys,” Ms. Torres called as she came to the counter. “What’s up? I didn’t know you worked here.”
“Yeah, moderately priced soaps are my calling.”
“You shopping?”
“No, no. I’m just here with my boyfriend.” Yeah... literally the only other customer in the shop. “Joking. Sometimes older people make jokes.”
“My nana takes her wig off when she’s drunk.”
“Your nana and I have that in common,” she deadpanned. “No, actually I’m just here because I bartend a couple nights a week down at P.J. Calamity’s. Logan, I hope you do join Mathletes, you know. Because we start in a couple weeks.”
“I think I’m gonna do it.”
“Great!”
“You can’t join Mathletes, it’s social suicide!” Thomas rushed to say.
“Thanks, Thomas.” And then, “well... this has been sufficiently awkward. And I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”
“Oh man, that is bleak,” Virgil sighed when Ms. Torres left. “So, when are you gonna see Remy again?”
“I can’t spy on him anymore. It’s weird.”
“Come on, he’s never gonna find out! It’s just... it’ll be like our little secret!”
Okay then...

Day seventy-one
Moving on from Remy, please.
I’m... kind of out of it at the moment. I’m going through everything and tagging it all so I could put everything in chronological order. It’s kind of a mess, really...
It’ll take me a couple of days. But it’ll happen. Trust me. I’m already making quite a bit of progress.
And speaking of going through everything.
Night update: I actually slept pretty alright. However, remember how Logan screams at vending machines?
It happened again last night.
Pat had a bad night, apparently he couldn’t exactly sleep, and Logan went to get him water from a vending machine. And good almighty, did I not miss his screams.
According to him, though, Patton almost hurt himself last night. It was... preemptive measures.
Roman got cast. He got the phone call yesterday. Not as JD, though. He won’t tell me his role but he did say that it’s a good one.
So... I feel bad about how much worse the updates have gotten. I’m gonna do my best now. I promise.
Roman is folding a lot of paper cranes. He started yesterday. I’m trying to help him but I’m not nearly as good. He’s also been wearing his flower crown all day, I don’t know why.
I... am very tired. I don’t know why, I just am. I slept alright last night. I’m guessing it’s the anxiety.
So... I swear if I could remember anything else I’d tell you. Today was kind of hectic, for Patton mostly. He didn’t leave Logan’s room, he didn’t talk much, I just... I don’t know what’s going on. I wish I knew.
...eh. Logan will fill y’all in later.
~Virgil.
