I always like the idea of making characters interact with their artists so I decided to take a break and make this somewhat comedic scenario with a couple of the designs I made (my Remnant!Makoto’s outfit based on the design from @thiscatdraws MLP despaired Makoto design!!) and showcasing their new personalities alongside @spittyfishy Remnant!Kaede and Shuichi :00

Since I’ve got Makoto and Serena’s designs all done I’ll probably post them at some point once I got a couple more characters done from their respective series (and Deku as well because I’m still workshopping his lol

“Are you done yet?” Ouma whines childishly, swinging his legs back and forth from where he’s sitting.

“Quit your whining, I’ve almost got it,” Miu grumbles. She pulls at a wire on the back of Kiibo’s neck plate before abruptly changing her mind and grabbing a screwdriver instead to loosen something.

“But Iruma-chan is going sooooo slow!” Ouma complains. Miu flips him off, an action which Ouma returns in kind.

Kiibo beams. He’s so happy that his friends are getting along with each other!

“I still don’t get the point of this,” Saihara interjects. “Right now, Kiibo-kun does everything we say, why undo that?”

Ouma sighs dramatically. “Kiiboy’s so boring now! The emotion blockers Iruma-chan put in keep him from being interesting!” He smirks. “So this is just for fun!”

Momota snorts. “Of course you would think this is fun.”

“Well, I’m sorry you have a terrible sense of humor,” Ouma snarks back.

“Everyone, shut up, I’ve almost got it,” Miu orders, having returned to adjusting the wires at Kiibo’s neck.

“I believe in you, Miu!” Akamatsu cheers from her position draped across Harukawa, who bears it with an expression of complete stoicism.

“I don’t!” Ouma chimes in cheerfully, prompting an indignant “Oi!” from Miu.

“One last touch…” Miu mutters. There’s a slight jolt as she clicks something into place, then a larger one as she yanks a wire out. “Got it!”

There’s nothing for a second, before something clicks.

Images pour into Kiibo’s mind immediately in a dizzying whirl. Momota and Saihara laughing as they burn a building to the ground. Shirogane infiltrating the Future Foundation, sabotaging their efforts from the inside. 

What…

Harukawa fully embracing her assassin side, killing people mercilessly left, right and centre. Chabashira becoming so infatuated with Enoshima that she starts to push everyone away, completely blind to the monster Enoshima really is. Yonaga spreading her new ‘religion’, desecrating locations worldwide and bringing despair everywhere she goes. 

Why didn’t I stop this?...

Akamatsu weaving beautiful, horrifying pieces of music, plunging anyone who hears it into mind-numbing despair and smiling. Gonta, the gentle giant, abandoning all his values and dreams of being a gentleman, descending into being completely feral. Shinguji sobbing as his beloved artefacts are mercilessly destroyed, despite his attempts to save them.

No…

Ouma brutally slaughtering DICE, his closest friends as tears run down his face and he laughs in ecstasy. Miu herself, constructing machines that bring destruction to the world, the complete opposite of her goals. Tojo, snapping under the constant pressure and deciding to take control of everyone in order to fulfil people’s wishes.

Stop it…

Everyone else. Yumeno, Hoshi, Amami Kamukura- and Kiibo. Standing and watching as the world burns. As his friends carry out these atrocious acts. Smiling. Encouraging them. Doing nothing to stop them.

Stop it!

“Stop it!” he screams, completely overwhelmed by the rush of emotions. “Stop it stop it stop it…” he dies off to a whimper, clutching his head in pain.

“So, Kiiboy! How’re you feeling?~” Ouma sing-songs. When Kiibo looks back at him, he’s grinning madly, eyes alight with something psychotic. 

(He can only think of how Ouma screamed and wailed and sobbed as he killed DICE, his friends, his family in all but blood, yet had kept on at it, smiling through his tears. How broken he had looked afterwards, blood staining his clothes and dripping down his body.)

The feeling gets worse as he looks at the rest of them, flowing through his insides like poison. Of how broken all of them look, hollow shells filled with despair, eyes swirling but empty at the same time-

Kiibo whirls to face Miu, holding onto her desperately as he begs, “Put it back! Please, Miu, just- whatever it was, put it back please!”

He squeezes his eyes shut, unable to bear the sight of all his friends with their red, swirling eyes. He thinks he hears Ouma, Saihara and…Momota, maybe? All laughing as they watch his breakdown. 

“Please…It’s too much- I…I can’t-” he manages to gasp out. His circuitry is going haywire with the sheer amount of emotions pouring into him, not meant to withstand this many. And maybe it’s selfish, to want to get rid of these feelings, when he should be trying to stop them - his friends - from doing all these awful deeds.

A small part of his brain is screaming at him to activate his rocket boosters and fly away, find the Future Foundation and help them to fight against the Remnants. 

But Kiibo was designed to mimic human traits as closely as possible, and thus he is flawed and imperfect and selfish, and he just wants these feelings to go away-

“Aw, not so easy with a conscience, is it?” Miu coos, wrapping her arms around him. “Don’t worry, baby, I’ll fix you up again in a sec.���

“Little baby Kiiboy can’t handle all these emotions?~” Ouma giggles, leaning into his space. “Can’t handle knowing that you were the cause of so much destruction?”

“S-Stay away from me!” 

From behind, Akamatsu pouts. “That’s not very nice, Kiibo-kun. Aren’t we friends?”

“Yeah! We’re all on the same team!” Momota chimes in, slinging an arm around Harukawa, who leans into his touch. The assassin doesn’t add on, but her eyes lock on to Kiibo’s, sending a chill up his spine. 

“Working towards the same goals, right?” Ouma moves back slightly, letting Saihara approach from the other side.

“You’ve got as much blood on your hands as we do!” Saihara chirps, his normally kind eyes containing nothing but cruel amusement.

“N-No, I-” Kiibo glances down at his hands in distress.

(The worst part is, they’re not lying. Blood drips through his fingers, staining his metal red. Waterfalls of it pool at his feet, thick and cloying. When he closes his eyes, it’s all he can see.

Everywhere.)

“Don’t be so modest, baby, we both know how good you are with your hands~” Miu purrs, grabbing his face gently in her hands.

“Please,” he whispers. “Please just put it back.”

Miu sighs loudly. “And after all the time I spent taking it out. Fine, only for you, baby.”

As she guides him away, Kiibo hears Ouma giggle, “Well, he hates us and himself now! I’d consider that a win.”

“Yeah, that was fun,” Saihara agrees.

“Kaito, if we don’t get out of here in the next one minute, I’m going to slaughter that rat.”

“Gotcha, babe!”

I don't think we talk enough about how traumatising the memory erased stuff is.

Like how hard must it have been for everyone to suddenly realise years of their lives were missing.

To just come to the chilling realisation someone up until an hour ago was your friend.

Has caused the apocalypse.

You think your a first year high school student but nope.

Turns out you've already graduated.

Do they even know how old they are?

You don't know what's changed in your life, what hasn't.

Byakuya's whole family company is gone.

Makoto won't know if Komaru is alive for a long time.

... Are they the only ones left?

Food's suddenly an issue.

They have nowhere else to go.

Makoto has to carry on like his friends didn't just try and kill him.

Everyone else is gone.

They won but... Did they?

And that's just the first game, the Remnants are on a whole other level.

They've caused genocide.

Killed family, friends.

And don't know who or if anyone's left.

Hajime basically lost himself and his own identity for who knows how many years and he's just supposed to just... Exist like nothing happened.

It's like waking up from a nightmare and realising it was all true.

And they don't know what their forgetting or even if they want to remember.

All of them are alive but... Is that good?

They all know who killed them, and have to go on like they didn't.

And their alive...

Nagito's back in a body that's still sick.

Does Nekomaru have a body?

Hell, Sonia's country doesn't exist anymore.

And if I'm remembering correctly, Chiaki's still gone...

... Fucking glad Makoto was here at the end to do damage control because holyshit.

He's already gone through all of this and now is helping them get through it.

Which is great but also means he went through it alone.

Komaru has all her memories in tact but has to constantly choose her words.

Lest she sends Makoto or anyone of the other survivors into a crisis.

And than you have what may be the worse case, V3.

Because Shuichi doesn't even know if anythings real anymore.

Is he real?

Is his name Shuichi Saihara?

How many times has he died?

Is this the real world? What even is the real world?

Am I even a detective? Is all of my personality fake? Who am I? What was made for the show and what's real?

Does it even matter?

Do I have a family? How old am I? How long is 53 seasons? Are my friends still my friends, are they the same?

Is any of this real? Am I real?

If V3 ends like Danganronpa 2 did, is Kaede alive?

Do they remember each other? Is Kaito still sick?

Was Tsumugi ever a friend?

And again, knowing exactly who killed who.

..... You know people give Junko a lot of credit for causing despair.

As she deserves.

But her boyfriend deserves just as much because... Holyshit my dude this is sick.

Her boyfriend was, Yasuke Matsuda the Ultimate Neurologist.

Aka the dude responsibile for all the memory wipes.

Shame she killed him because talk about a power couple.

Causing the end of the world and lasting trauma to everyone involved.

Makoto gonna have to go give everuone therapy while also desperately needing therapy.

a little bit about "good bones" x danganronpa

while i've only read recaps of the anime, i do think restarting HPA is perfectly in-character for Makoto. i also think that is, quite possibly, the Dumbest Possible Place to have ended the HPA arc without any additional Context or (Re-)action.

so i'm always thinking about what Makoto has to go through to convince his friends, the Remnants, society at large burned by despair that restarting the school is a good move. AND NOT EVEN REBRANDED!!! not even rebranded: the logo still has a Monokuma eye within it. the logo, the school, still is a constant tangible symbol of Junko.

this little mash-up is also inspired by the good half of Tsumugi's fake backstory for Danganronpa 53, where the v3s are the next gen of the HPA universe.

so, all together:

for me personally? this is Makoto talking, in this poem, to Kaede, who survived her formative years in Junko's post-apocalyptic nightmare, who is the pregame v3 Kaede we briefly meet that thinks the world is rotten. Makoto, however, knows the world is rotten. i've never thought he was blindly Naive or Hopeful. he's well-aware how shit things can get and have gotten.

after all, his (and our) first experiences in this New World Order? watching Mukuro getting kebobed by her own sister for what turned out to be Shits and Giggles. then discovering his first ally, Sayaka, was willing to offer him up to the altar that is Junko's worldview.

combine that with what others (Komaru, FF members) have told him they've seen and done...

but he's doing this anyway: he's rebuilding the institution that can serve as a source of renewal. maybe it'll be different this time around. he's choosing to think it'll be Different.

he has to have this talk with new applicants a lot.

he reaches over his desk to take Kaede's hand like Kyoko's done for him so many times, sheepishly smiling, and he says:

"h-hey, you know? this place could be beautiful, right? you could make this place beautiful."

Perihelion's Crew

Memo to self

[some spoiler from Network Effect and Systems Collapse]

ART is considered as an individual and second-in-command of missions after Seth, and also has the same title and position both in the teaching faculty and the freeing-former-corporate-colonies side business as Iris, though most of the students and lower-level personnel it interacts with don't know what its full capacity is.

So, with only small number of upper-level university personnel knows about what Perihelion is capable of. That means, its crew is very special, carefully selected. After re-reading both books, I am still confused about them, though. Some of them only get mentioned briefly. So, I made a summary for myself. Please correct me if I am wrong:

Seth (he)

 Captain of the Perihelion. He is Iris’s father with Martyn. When he meets Murderbot for the first time on the planet of lost colony, he is sceptical. But once he understands that Murderbot is indeed Peri’s friend, he relaxes. He is tall, has very dark skin, with less hair than most SecUnits. When Murderbot was captured by the infected colonists, he tries to stay behind to save it, despite severe injury. He seems to like high-carb protein diet, and ART threatens him to inform Martyn and iris about it. He initially objected to Tarik being assigned to Perihelion, owing to his past working for Corporates. He seems very mild mannered and does not come across as the leader of anti-corporate missions.

Martyn (he)

Probably a bio expert. One of Iris’s fathers. He has lighter skin, with short white hair. He asks, “How many SecUnit friends does Peri have?” to which Iris says, “No, Dad, this is the SecUnit Peri told us about, the one it was going to bomb the colony over.” Martyn told Murderbot about ART’s creative accounting. He also told it that Iris and ART had been interacting since they were both babies. ART, Murderbot, Martyn and Matteo came up with full containment protocol. Towards the end of Systems Collapse, he was in a second team in negotiations with the separatists with Iris and Kaede.

Iris (she)

  Daughter of Seth and Martyn. She has augments for extra feed connectivity and storage, but nothing for vision. Dark brown skin, and wears a woven bracelet. She has curly puff of hair tied up in a headband/scarf thing. Smaller and slimmer than Ratthi, but not much bigger than Amena. She grew up with Perihelion since she was a newborn baby, and Perihelion was also newborn AI. Murderbot realises that Iris is ART’s Ratthi (its best ally). She shows leadership qualities, being able to keep her cool in difficult situations. She has the same title and position in the teaching faculty in PSUMNT as ART.

Kaede (she)

  She is about the same size as Iris, but her skin is lighter, and her hair is yellow. She says, “Peri has a very dry sense of humour.” When Murderbot was rescued, Kaede suggests that they should put together a run box so that they can isolate the contaminated to code to delete. She also helped (with Thiago and Ratthi) in rebuilding the organic components in Murderbot’s back. She was also going over the scans of what little was left of the alien remnant from ART’s drive. Thus, she may have studied biochemistry and neurology. She seems to take things in her stride. When Ratthi and Tarik were having sexual discussions, she was just reading her feed, eating snack, and states, “I’m not getting involved in that, either.”.

Karime (she)

  In Network Effect, Pin-Lee was consulting with Karime and Iris about documents to dispute Barish-Estranza’s claim on the colony. She is the primary negotiator on ART’s crew. She is older than Mensah, according to ART’s personnel file. Calm and non-threatening. She has marital partners back at the university’s primary site.

Matteo (they)

  About the same size as Iris and Kaede, and has lots of dark hair in braids. They says “And we don’t like Barish-Estranza,” to the PreAux people. They was also going over the scans of what little was left of the alien remnant from ART’s drive with Kaede and Tarik. They could be a bio-medical expert. Worked with Arada on medical upgrades.

Turi (they)

  About as young as Amena. ART yells as Turi to put their laundry in the recycler when Mensah was about to board. Turi is in charge of ART’s accounting, and has to keep a hardcopy ledger because otherwise ART would alter their data. So, accounting might be their field of expertise. If Turi is allowed to do accounting for ART, and is let in on the BIG secret about special AI bots, Murderbot could be mistaken about their age. Unless Turi is a genius, skipped many years and finished higher education early.

Tarik (he)

  When Murderbot tells Seth, Iris, Kaede, Matteo, and Tarik that it called Perihelion ART, standing for Asshole Research Transport, Tarik says, “You definitely know the real Peri.” He used to be in a corporate combat squad, and forced to kill. He hates corporates. He also has a security speciality. He was new and had been with the crew for the previous 387 corporate standard day cycles. He is on board ART as a mission specialist, as he has a good knowledge of the tactics that corporates employ.

I'm curious about the recovery timeline. Sakura and Aoi were there to help with Shuichi and Kaede. Does that mean there was quite a big gap between DR1 and DR3's killing games in this AU?

Are all of the DR1 cast recovered (as much as can be expected) by the time the DR2 cast's killing game occurred and ready to help or was there a crossover where the two classes were in the hospital together? Were there still DR1/DR2 cast members in the hospital as patients when the DR3 killing game happened or were they all out by then and ready to help with physiotherapy and whatever else?

I'm asking because I can't get over how sad it would be those who had recovered well were in one room helping another group of traumatised people with physiotherapy whilst thinking about how some of their friends are still in the hospital dealing with the same stuff.

uruhhmm...again we don't really have it mapped out yet, i'm no good at this and i'm taking a LOT of liberties so bear with me. but i think all of these are relatively close together. makoto's class is rescued by the future foundation and the ones who "died" are holed up in the hospital wing. i'm gonna say it's maybe just a few months before the remnants are captured and 2 happens.

so by the time the remnants wake up from their comas (and are also placed in the ff hospital wing because they're too messed up to take care of themselves on jabberwock) it's likely makoto's class is mostly (physically) recovered but now unable to function like they used to. leon, hifumi, & mondo especially spend the most time in and out of the hospital even when the others in their class have recovered.

v3 here is not part of a dumb meta show, it's run by a cult trying to replicate junko's "work" (dr1 was broadcast after all, and tsumugi became inspired). so i'm gonna say tsumugi started planning her masterpiece at the same time that the remnants were mucking around, during peak chaos times. right when the remnants wake from their comas in the hospital is when tsumugi streams v3.

SO. makoto's class is pretty much post-recovery while hajime & shuichi's classes share hospital time. they don't mingle much, but the survivors get to know each other and hajime takes care of the v3 class along with his own.

9.) Favorite Execution?

Hi!!

You know, probably Kaede's or Kirumi's.

I love how in V3 most executions kinda feel even more brutal than the ones before. And I love how Kaede's execution just sets the tone immediately. A lot of people that I saw playing go like "is that how all the executions here will be?!". And also both the horrifying concept and aesthetic/atmosphere here. The giant piano, spikes on the lid, monokumas in the audience throwing rocks... And such a cheerful melody that's being played on the piano. All of this works so well to create this feeling of horror both for the characters and also a bit for the player.

As for Kirumi's all the of the above and also the fact that she seriously tried to run, but it was actually a part of the punishment. How determined she was and how it was set up so her determination would be the reason of her painful death. The absolute horror on her face once she realises that all she's gone through was for nothing. All she did and all she had to suffer was just for nothing.

Also how her execution is based on the story about a sinner trying to escape from Hell by climbing a spider thread offered to him from the Paradise only for the thread to break because he didn't allow any other sinners to try escape with him.

It's just so interesting and wery well done.

10.) Least Favorite Execution?

Probably just like everybody else's my least favorite execution was Mikan's. It was probably was made to show Mikan getting injected drugs and having a trip without actually showing it. Otherwise I have no idea why does it look so ridiculous and nonsensical. One can come up so many different interesting ideas for the execution of the Ultimate Nurse and a Remnant of Despair, but they chose the weirdest and lamest one

Villainous Heroics...: Part 2

*With his bubble protecting his allies from the radiation, Shuichi escorts himself and his friends down the ruptured roads towards the center of the explosion.

Shuichi, I get why we're doing this, but I don't wanna stay here too long. If the contamination gets through this bubble-

I know Kaito...But I just...I need to-

I said I get it, ok?

*BOOOM!*

Gah!? Wh-What was-!?

Hey! Over there!

...!?

*Shuichi quickly hurries over to where the sudden after-explosion originated from. They run until they get to the edge of the cliff, then look down.

Wooooaaah...

*Kaede cannot help but raise her eyebrows as she and her friends see the aftermath. A hole unfathomably deep with remnants of radiation littered about it.

It went deeper than I thought...I've never seen anything like it...!

Well, if nothing else, in a few years time when the radiation dies down, this'll make one hell of a tourist attraction.

*Iroha, trembling, runs to the edge of the cliff and peers down into the hole.

MRRRR OOOOOUUUUMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
