24. bar
(guest starring @aster-skies's yrja~)
Kaede sat at a table in a quiet corner of the second floor of the Bobbing Cork, a large sack of gil in front of her, as well as several weapons, a few loose gemstones, some rare alchemical reagents, and a ledger. How she had ended up being the one to divvy up the spoils from two separate adventuring forays, she did not quite know. It would have been simpler to take it to Tataru, and let the Scions’ coincounter do the work, but it was rare indeed these days to have the luxury of a job that wasn’t associated with the Scions – and their finders’ fee. She didn’t begrudge the organization their cut, but it was nice to do some honest adventuring again. Besides, after that nonsense with Leviathan, she was more than happy to keep her distance from Mor Dhona for a while. Fighting primals was one thing, getting skewered by a chunk of ship railing and almost bleeding out was entirely another.
By all accounts, Marz’s group’s cleansing of Amdapor had been considerably less entertaining – and more disgusting – than Kaede’s own visit to Halatali, but both had been lucrative in their own ways. Though she had to say, gladitorial prize money was a good deal easier to portion out than random artifacts and bits that might or might not have value to the right person.
The soft scrape of wood on wood drew her attention back up, to find the other side of her table occupied by a tall, elegant viera woman, her white hair drawn back into a ponytail and a tankard of mead in each hand.
Yrja Eruyt was likely the only person in the bar to draw more attention than Kaede herself – and so a strange sort of kinship had sprung up between them, shortly after meeting a few moons previous. Precious few people Kaede had met understood what it was like to be so completely surrounded by people so much different than oneself. Add in the mess that was the Echo, and, well – Kaede was certain that the only thing separating the two of them into “adventurer” and “Warrior of Light” was Kaede’s own tendency to let herself get drawn into other people’s problems, tied down with duty and responsibility. Yrja did not seem to have that problem, coming and going as she pleased. Sometimes Kaede envied her freedom.
…It certainly didn’t hurt that she was gorgeous, either, not to mention deadly with a bow.
She accepted the mug of mead the other woman handed her with a smile. “Have they entirely destroyed the bar yet, or are they simply well on their way?”
“Last I saw, my brother and his miqo’te friend were very loudly arguing about which of them could more successfully seduce Admiral Bloefhiswyn,” Yrja murmured with a smile over the lip of her tankard, and Kaede rolled her eyes.
“Of course they are. At least it’s not Kan-E-Senna, I think that might actually get us arrested,” Kaede muttered under breath, shaking her head. “And Marz?”
“Fleecing some men in Triple Triad, I believe. Though, to her credit, they had been quite crass to the waitress.”
Sighing, Kaede rubbed her forehead. Right on cue, shouting began emanating from the first floor, followed by a string of doman swearing.
Both women glanced over the railing to see the xaela with her hands propped on her hips, staring down several angry wildwood men as a small keeper of the moon girl nervously clutched her drink tray and looked back and forth between the groups. Yrja crossed her legs and tipped her head in a graceful gesture. “I believe that means you owe me five gil?”
Sliding one coin from her own pile to the viera’s, Kaede rose and began packing up hers and Marz’s share. Doubtless it would be needed to pay for repairs. Or bail. “I’m beginning to regret this recurring bet. Yrys always manages to wait until someone else causes trouble to jump in. And that someone… is usually Marz.”
The sound of splintering wood heralded the devolving of the situation into an all-out brawl. Another look down revealed a howling elezen man on the ground, Marz’s foot on the back of his wrist, a knife a few ilms away from his hand, a broken chair still held loosely by a red-haired viera man, and several bar patrons fleeing the scene entirely.
“How many bars is this?” Kaede asked as she slung her bag over her shoulder and tossed two pouches to Yrja.
“That they’ve started trouble in, or been banned from?”
“Is the number different?”
Tipping her head in consideration, Yrja chuckled quietly. “I suppose it isn’t. Shall we reconvene at the Seventh Heaven?”
Considering its status as a front for the Scions’ headquarters, sooner or later that would be the only tavern where certain members of their party were allowed to drink together, apparently, and Kaede sighed. “Sure. I heard there were a few leads on other jobs there, anyway. Turns out some of us might need the extra gil.”
“So it would seem,” Yrja replied, and together they descended into the chaos to retrieve their respective responsibilities.

I stopped screwing around for this one (sort of, still used solo Ashley).
For the Light Witch: Like I mentioned, solo 4s Ashley. I’m 99% sure she won’t work as a solo for the EX-Challenges, but she made short work of the boss (completely forgot to take screenshots even).
For the Dark Witch: Used a 3s MadoIro, 2s Nayuta, and 3s Madoka.
MadoIro nearly killed it with a doppel, but ended up needing just a little bit more damage. Nayuta might seem like a weird choice but I wanted someone who could heal, contribute to accele combos + give some form of mp bonus, and her passive Status Ailments buff for the whole party was very persuasive.
If you’re struggling with the Dark witch, I just want to remind that you don’t need to use only light units. Light will deal extra damage to the boss sure, but the boss will also deal extra damage to the light girls.
Sasara has specific def against darkness, but personally I didn’t find that she was quite cutting it for me. That being said, you might want to try her out anyways. I do think that magia, particularly magia that can heal, is super key here. Anything that gives ailment resistance is good too-- particularly on whoever you use to draw aggro.
For the Flame Witch: I used a 2s Rena&Kaede (Swimsuit), 3s Sudachi, and a 1s Ao (who had the replacement memoria equipped).
Sudachi drew fire, and then Ao + RenaKaede swapped doppels back and forth. The biggest danger here was Sudachi’s health getting low, but luckily RenaKaede had a heal (sort of) on their connect that really helped.
I’ve seen some folks use Umika with great success. I haven’t been able to try it, but maybe Umika, Melissa, and some other tank would work really well here? TBH the only problem with Melissa is that she has good magia damage but she’s single target... I dunno. x_x
For the Forest Witch: I used a 1s Doppel Kyoko (with the memo replacement thing) and a 3s Sae.
Please note that I won on turn 2 just using flame kimochi strats. Doppel Kyoko is op.
For the Aqua Witch: 2s AniHoly Mami, 4s Matsuri tank, 4s Kako (who only has some actives equipped).
I won on turn 2 as well here. tbh, Matsuri wasn’t actually really needed here-- don’t need a tank if you don’t take that much damage-- but her extra slot was nice. I had Kako use accele draw, so that Mami could get to Doppel by turn two. On turn two I used a memoria that inflicted burn, and then the nemu one that gave curse and bewitch.
This meant Mami would deal shitloads of damage thanks to the extra damage taken from the buffs, and then her passive addict killer. cleaned up the witch quite nicely.
---
I explained all of this, but I don’t think it’ll be that helpful if you don’t have the same units I do. Some of these were still a struggle, particularly the dark witch and the flame one. I’m glad I bought Rena & Kaede because my list of slotted aqua girls is pretty poor.

This month’s Animage article was quite loaded with 6 pages of content. It consisted of an illustration with Kohaku and Hisui (2 pages), an interview with Kimura Ryōhei and Urao Takehiro (2 pages), and an interview with Uru (2 pages). That being said, this translation has been split into two parts.
Part 1: Interview with Kimura Ryōhei and Urao Takehiro Part 2: Interview with Uru

The Demon Slayers Have Arrived!
While butting heads with each other, the strength of unity between Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha slowly increases. Watching over and supporting those three girls are the uncle and nephew demon slayer combo.
Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha return to the feudal era from the modern Reiwa era. Lately, they have been slaying more demons together. In episode 5, they defeated one of the “Four Perils”, Tōkotsu; in episode 6, they subdued the demon cats nesting in the old temple. Each has a different goal: Towa’s is to break the spell of the “Dream Butterfly” cast upon Setsuna, Setsuna’s is to fulfill her duties as a demon slayer, and Moroha’s is to defeat demon bounties in order to pay off her debt. However, from spending time together, their teamwork seems to be slowly improving.
Supporting the girls’ efforts are demon slayers Kohaku and Hisui. The two of them show concern for Towa and the others by doing things like taking care of Towa who came from the modern era or providing hints to Setsuna on demon subjugation. Especially Kohaku who has relations with their parents in that he joined forces with them to defeat Naraku. Given that, that could be more reason why he pays attention to the girls. Starting from the reason why the Tree of Ages requested the three girls to “Defeat Kirinmaru and Sesshōmaru” to the existence of Rin sleeping within the Tree of Ages, the circumstances surrounding the three girls is full of mystery. Surely Kohaku and Hisui’s existence will become of help to the girls as they overcome trials.
(Character Bios)
Kohaku When he was a boy, it was said that he “Wasn’t suited to be demon slayer” but now he serves as the head of the clan. He was the one who accepted Setsuna as a demon slayer.
Hisui Miroku and Sango’s child and a demon slayer who fights with Hiraikotsu as his weapon. He did not know Setsuna was a half-demon until he was told by Kaede in episode 3.
Higurashi Towa In order to free her younger sister, Setsuna, from the spell of the Dream Butterfly, she returns to the feudal era. Due to having lived in the modern era for so long, she is somewhat hesitant about fighting demons.
Setsuna A demon slayer who had her sleep and childhood memories stolen by the Dream Butterfly. While she pushes away her elder sister, Towa, who for some reason involves herself with her, she also seems to be concerned for her (Towa).
Moroha In order to repay her debt, she bounty hunts. When she puts on rouge, she becomes “The Country Destroying Beniyasha” and displays unparalleled strength but she falls asleep less than a minute later.
Miroku A monk who previously traveled with Inuyasha. Defeating Naraku, the Wind Tunnel in his right hand disappeared. After the battle, he married Sango and became the father to three children which includes Hisui.
Sango Kohaku’s older demon slayer sister. She previously traveled with Inuyasha and her weapon at the time was Hiraikotsu. She had three children with Miroku: Kin’u, Gyokuto, and Hisui.
That Kohaku Became a Dignified Adult
The Role of Kohaku: Kimura Ryōhei “Kohaku is a character that also appeared in “Inuyasha” but he matured well. When one’s impression of him changes this much, I don’t have to keep Akko-san (Yajima Akiko who voiced Kohaku in his boyhood) in mind so he’s easier to play which is nice. As of now, he has the impression of an adult who doesn’t get into a tight spot or loses composure. They handle him with dignity so I think I can play him without worry.“ (translator’s note: Not sure if I translated that last sentence correctly…)
Kohaku During His Boyhood
Sango’s younger brother. He lost his life to Naraku’s trap but was revived with the power of the Shikon Jewel shard. At first, he was being controlled by Naraku but he regained his memories later on.
Kohaku and Sesshōmaru’s relationship
In the story of “Inuyasha”, Kohaku was always in danger of demons targeting the Shikon Jewel shard. At one point, Sesshōmaru saves Kohaku who had been captured by Byakuya of the Mirage and afterwards, Kohaku accompanies Sesshōmaru on his travels. Normally Sesshōmaru does not get close to others but he did not object to Kohaku travelling with him. It could be that to Sesshōmaru, Kohaku was someone that he could allow to stay near him.
What Did He Inherit from His Father, Miroku?
The Role of Hisui: Urao Takehiro “While Hisui is a little older than Setsuna and the others, he has quite a calm impression. It’s just that he is still young, so he has an unknowing and inexperienced side to him. His uncle is teaching him in that regard. I think Hisui’s strong personality resembles his mother, Sango. The lecherous side of his father, Miroku, hasn’t appeared in Hisui yet so I wonder what I’ll do if he has that kind of a side to him (laughs).”
The Reliable Uncle and the Inexperienced Nephew
— From the start, what sort of impression did you have of the work, “Inuyasha”?
Urao: I’m definitely part of the “Inuyasha” generation. I think I was in upper elementary school when “Inuyasha” started broadcasting. I really liked it and I would watch it every week while eating dinner. The first CD I ever bought with my own allowance was V6’s “CHANGE THE WORLD, Inuyasha first opening song” too.
Kimura: I think I was in high school at the time, so I was right on the cusp of the age for watching anime on a daily basis. I felt it was about time I moved on. It’s just that in regard to “Inuyasha”, it left the impression that it was a work that could be enjoyed not just by kids but also by high schoolers and older. In addition to it being the work of Takahashi Rumiko-san, the creator of my absolute favorite “Ranma ½”, I was working in the industry at the time but I enjoyed it as a viewer.
— Which character left an impression on you?
Urao: My favorite was Shippō. In any case, he’s cute. At the time, I was a real scaredy cat so whenever the demon battles began, I would always look away from the screen (laughs). Within that, Shippō was a comforting existence. I also liked the romantic comedy, so I enjoyed watching the exchanges between Miroku and Sango.
Kimura: The one who left an impression on me was Naraku. At a glance, he didn’t really feel like a final boss. When you look at Sesshōmaru, you know “This guy is strong”. But with Naraku, it’s like “Is this guy strong? What?!”. He could probably win in a fist fight but that air that he has of not allowing you to punch him is something I actually found creepy.
— The current work continues the world of “Inuyasha” but apparently, you were offered the role rather than auditioning for it.
Urao: I was extremely happy. I knew the work, “Hanyō no Yashahime” was being created before it was discussed with me so I was looking forward to it as a regular viewer. It was then that I was asked to play Hisui and I was really surprised and honored.
Kimura: I didn’t know that they were moving forward with this work so I was all the more surprised (laughs). It’s not often that you get to be involved in an anime that you watched as an average viewer during your childhood, so I was happy. I had a connection with Rumiko-san from a previous work called “Kyōkai no RINNE” so I’m thankful that I get to have another connection via this work of completely different nature. If I had to say, though they’re the same in that they’re works by Rumiko-san, “Ranma ½” and “Kyōkai no RINNE” left a strong comedic impression. However, I was very excited to take part in the fantasy adventure world that is “Inuyasha”.
— How did you feel about the concept of “Continuing the world of “Inuyasha”, drawing the story of the next generation”
Kimura: Continuing a great work is exceedingly difficult so I don’t think it’s something that should be done at a moment’s notice. It’s just that “Inuyasha” was a big hit work that was drawn by the famous artist, Takahashi Rumiko. It was watched by many and loved for a long time. If the staff who created a work of that level decided to do a continuation, there’s no way they could create something half-hearted. Upon receiving talks, I just reminded myself to that level on my own and thought “It will definitely be okay!”
Urao: The generation that watched “Inuyasha” in real time are now adults and there are some that have children. That’s why I think “Hanyō no Yashahime” is a work that can be enjoyed by two generations. Adults can watch a new story together with the kids while explaining to them “”Inuyasha” was this kind of story”. I’m hoping I will be able to assist that kind of work. Actually when episode 1 aired, my high school senpai contacted me saying “I’m about to watch it with my son”.
— That’s a wonderful story. When playing the roles of Kohaku and Hisui, do you keep in mind Kohaku’s boyhood days in “Inuyasha” or Miroku and Sango who are Hisui’s parents?
Kimura: Actually, I don’t keep that in mind one bit.
— I see.
Kimura: For example, even if I were to keep Akko-san (Yajima Akiko who voiced Kohaku in his boyhood) in mind, if asked if I could come near that, the answer would be no (translator’s note: not too sure I got the translation of this sentence right). It’s just that when I was told that Akko-san said “Oh my~ he’s become a fine man”, I was relieved. I’m glad she didn’t think “Tsk!” (laughs).
Urao: I completely mindful of that! Especially in episode 2 when shouting while throwing Hirakotsu; I recorded the voice of Kuwashima Hōko-san (the role of Sango) saying “Hiraikotsu” and the whole time I was riding the train, I listened to it and did image training.
Kimura: I see. It certainly is something like a signature move.
Urao: First, I thought I needed viewers to acknowledge “Hirakotsu!”. Also, since the image of Miroku being able to calmly assess and explain the situation was strong, I’m really conscious of that in explanation scenes. I rewatched the anime and researched the way he spoke.
Kimura: There’s a lot of scenes where Kohaku and Hisui give explanations on demons while splitting lines (amongst themselves).
Urao: Indeed.
Kimura: Kohaku and Hisui probably meet up beforehand. Something like “I’ll explain up to here” (laughs).
Urao: Responding “Then I’ll explain the next (part)” is something they might be doing (laughs).
— How do you view each other’s characters?
Urao: Kohaku has always been a person who’s known that he was being manipulated and yet still moved in secret; but I also got the impression that he had a strong heart. It means that Ryōhei-san is playing someone like him and it’s really reassuring. As an average viewer of “Inuyasha”, I’m deeply moved that “He’s become a reliable man!” and as Hisui, I feel that “He’s a reliable uncle.” Calling him “Uncle Kohaku” felt kind of fresh (laughs).
Kimura: The impression I got from Hisui was “He’s a good young man.” Although I can say the same for the main three and not just Hisui. At the beginning, I wondered how Kohaku and Hisui would balance out but thanks to the scenario, lines, and Urao’s acting, it became “While he’s gaining experience as a demon slayer, there’s still a part of him that’s inexperienced.” That’s why I was able to grasp the balance between the two naturally instead of being strangely conscious of it. I became convinced of this in episode 2 in their first appearance scene.
He Can’t Use Any Other Weapon? Hisui Is Still in the Midst of Growing (as a demon slayer).
— Next, please tell us your impressions of Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha.
Urao: Even though they were raised in the feudal era, all of them have some “modern era girl” touch to them. Like the chattering ambiance (laughs). Also, I think each of them has an aspect that they inherited from their parents. Setsuna is the daughter of Sesshōmaru; you can feel that Moroha is Inuyasha’s daughter; Towa’s easygoing aspect gives you the sense that she was raised by Sōta.
Kimura: In a sense, Towa is the hardest to grasp. I think that gives her that protagonist feel.
— You feel she is hard to grasp?
Kimura: She’s full of energy and has an overflowing sense of justice but she has moments where you don’t know what she’s thinking. There, other characters and the readers get tied up… I think you see that a lot in protagonists of thrilling shōnen manga. I think Towa has that sort of precarious aspect. Heck, a modern middle schooler going back to the feudal era; that’s when you think something’s wrong with them (laughs). However, the story won’t progress if you don’t have that and it’s because they’re like that that they can remain the protagonist. Setsuna is cool and of few words but it’s easy to see what she’s thinking. I think the energetic Moroha is the easiest to understand.
Urao: My favorite of the three is Moroha. I can really feel that she inherited Inuyasha’s blood. Like how she’s a little hasty and the way she talks.
Kimura: The way Moroha’s voice actress, Tadokoro-san (Azusa), skillfully plays her is nice. Listening to her talk at a nice tempo feels good. Also, the voice actress for Setsuna, Komatsu-san (Mikako) is able to properly incorporate a sense of inexperience to a character that is prone to appearing boorish; I thought that’s her for yah. With this work, this is my first time working with Matsumoto-san (Sara) who plays the role of Towa and she’s good at acting! During today’s test recording when she said the line “Setsuna!” she got directed once, but the “Setsuna” in the actual recording came out sounding good like bam! I feel something like a synergy effect as the three work each other up which I think is splendid. It seems that the three cast members get along really well too.
Urao: The three of them act wonderfully don’t they. Just, I wonder why Setsuna is somewhat cold towards Hisui (laughs). As of now, Hisui calls Setsuna’s name the most but she looks away from him a lot… I hope they can close the distance between them moving forward!
— Kohaku and Hisui’s role is sort of like a guardian to Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha right.
Kimura: That’s right. It’s like the two of us are watching over the three girls.
Urao: We are sending them to slay demons after all. Hisui should’ve gone with them (laughs).
— In episode 5, due to Hiraikotsu not being effective on the demon they were taking on, Hisui had to stay behind.
Kimura: You know, Hisui is a pro so make him be able to use other weapons! What is he going to do when he doesn’t have Hiraikotsu on hand! (laughs)
Urao: You’re right (laughs). He might get more from here on. He is in the middle of growing (as a demon slayer)!
— Hisui’s development from here on is something to look forward to (laughs). Today (at time of the interview) is right after the televising of episode 1 but Urao-san was posting live on social media. You reacted to the line “Don’t cry Hisui~”
Urao: That’s the line that Hisui’s older twin sisters (Kin’u and Gyokuto) said. Hisui was still a cute baby!
Kimura: They seem strong if they fight as twins. I wonder when the grown-up sisters will show up. Could it be that they’re part of the demon slayer team?
Urao: I’m sure they will make an appearance. The content within episode 1 made “Inuyasha” fans very happy. You could feel the “Inuyasha”-ism everywhere. For example, the program sponsor background image, heads mercilessly flying off, and the background music that makes you go “When this music plays, the demon can be defeated”; everything was nostalgic.
— Yasumura Makoto’s role as Miroku was a topic of discussion as well.
Urao: I was moved. He played the role he inherited from Tsujitani Kōji-san (played the role of Miroku in “Inuyasha”) with great respect. He made me think it was actually Miroku and as his son, I got fired up even more.
— Lastly, please give us your thoughts on the illustration of Kohaku and Hisui published in this month’s issue.
Kimura: Both of them look so reliable!
Urao: Yeah, they look cool. When I see them like this, they really look alike. Uncle Kohaku has a big scar on his nose but I wonder if the one who gave him that scar will make an appearance in the future? The freckles he had as a kid are gone too which is impressionable.
— In the future, is there a situation you would like to see in a copyright image?
Kimura: This is a staple but Kohaku and Hisui in swimsuits?
Urao: (laughs) For me, I want to see the whole family lined up. Like a family photo with the parents, Hisui, the older sisters, and Uncle Kohaku.
Kimura: I like that! The family getting together doesn’t seem like something we’ll get to see much in the actual show. Also, I might want to see the two’s desperate expression. As of now, Kohaku and the others have an air of composure about them; it would be nice to see their forms in action. I’m sure something like a strong enemy will appear and the figures of them fighting valiantly will be drawn in the show. However, there are three protagonists, so our turn probably won’t be for a while (laughs).
Which scene up to episode 6 left an impression on you?
Kimura: Mistress Three Eyes that Nabatame-san (Hitomi) played was scary. She was a formidable foe. She looked just like the demon that first appeared in “Inuyasha”; it was amusing that they continued that.
Urao: Apparently, she’s the grandchild of Mistress Centipede.
Kimura: That confirms a second and third generation. The part where “That thing also had children!” is surprising too though (laughs).
Urao: For me, it had to be the scene where Hisui and Kohaku make their first appearance that left an impression. To think the day would come where I could ride Kirara and throw Hiraikotsu… I was deeply moved like we’ve crossed over eras.
Kimura: Even if you encounter a wonderful new work, it’s not often that you get to experience the same things the people playing the characters in the wonderful preexisting work felt.
Which character are you curious about?
Urao: Kirinmaru who has that mastermind aura. How is he going to move from here on?... There’s a person named Kirin Osamu-sensei in the modern era too so I’m curious as to the relationship between that.
Kimura: There’s no way that that’s the only screen time Hosoya-san (Yoshimasa who plays Kirinmaru) is getting. There’s this feeling of expectation that he will appear again.
Urao: Yeah
Kimura: Not only is there a chance that his existence is connected to the feudal era, but maybe there’s a possibility that he’s actually someone’s descendant? Well, we know absolutely nothing about the scenario ahead so we can just say whatever about the (plot) progression from here on (laughs).

After rounding the front end of his car, he opened the door for her and found her looking confused as she took his offered hand and let him help her out.
“Where are we?” she asked and he noticed she didn’t pull her hand away from his. He promptly took advantage of it and twined their fingers again.
He shut her car door and locked up before shrugging. “You said you were hungry, right? I could go for some chow myself. This is my favorite little hole in the wall and the owner’s like family. You’ll like it here, I promise.”
As he tugged her forward, Kagome’s eyes brightened and a smile lit her face. “I only said that as an excuse, you know,” she told him but didn’t protest as he ushered her inside a quaint little restaurant named simply Kaede’s.
Inuyasha only offered another shrug as he led her through a dimly lit dining room toward a bar counter with a row of bar stools. Immediately Kagome conceded to his presumptuous words; she did like it. The restaurant was small, cozy, and it smelled absolutely divine.
Kagome was smiling as Inuyasha pulled out a stool for her and helped her up before claiming the one beside her. She didn’t see a menu anywhere and there were no boards on the wall offering different dishes. She was about to ask her half-demon companion about the sort of food served here, but before she could, an elderly woman wearing an apron emerged from where Kagome assumed was the kitchen and instantly the first word that came to Kagome’s mind was warmth.
“Well, how nice of you to finally show up and grace this old woman with your presence,” she said by way of greeting but despite her words her smile was kind and grandmotherly with a hint of teasing. “Shame on you for making me worry, pup.”
Her to never ending surprise, Inuyasha actually smiled at the old woman and offered an apologetic shrug. “Trust me, it’s not by choice. Sesshomaru is trying to kill me with all these damn assignments and jobs he keeps pushing on me and I’ve recently taken on a side project of sorts. What, you think I’d intentionally stay away from the most beautiful, talented, wonderful woman who makes the best damn—”
“Oh, shut up, you, and introduce me to your attractive lady friend,” Kaede interrupted, shaking her head and Kagome had to giggle. She liked this lady.
Chuckling, Inuyasha put a hand on the small of Kagome’s back and did as he was bade. “Kaede, this is Kagome. I’m helping her out with a, uh, school project. Sorta. Kagome, this is Kaede. I’ve known her forever and she’s like a grandmother to me.”
Kaede beamed and shook Kagome’s hand. “I see,” she murmured. “It’s nice to meet you, dear. This pup has never brought a woman here before, you know. How interesting.”
Her kind eyes gleamed mischievously and she ignored Inuyasha’s growled, “Quit it, old woman.”
Blushing at the implication, having no idea how to even respond to that, Kagome nonetheless returned the smile while Inuyasha grumbled beside her.
“Nice to meet you too, Kaede. Um, I love your restaurant. It’s so cozy and personable and please tell me whatever it is I’m smelling is on the menu tonight.”
Laughing in delight, deciding she liked the pup’s choice in company, Kaede nodded happily. “I can definitely arrange that, my dear. What you smell is actually the most popular dish here, and your boy’s favorite. Two orders coming right up.”
Eyes wide and emitting an embarrassed little squeak, Kagome’s face turned five different shades of red as she fervently shook her head. “Oh, n-no, we aren’t—h-he’s not my—”
With a hearty chuckle, Kaede tipped her a wink, gave Inuyasha a knowing smile, and then retreated back to the kitchen while humming a jaunty little tune, innocent as you please.
Inuyasha didn’t buy it for a second and the scowl on his face said as much. He knew what she was trying to do, knew exactly what she was plotting because she’d tried to do the same goddamn thing with her granddaughter. Thankfully, however, Kikyou had also caught on to what she was trying to do and had put a stop to it fairly quickly.
They’d tried the dating thing and it hadn’t worked out. While he would always love his Peach-Kiks, of course, she had found true love in her husband Suikotsu and Inuyasha was happy for her. Kaede, while over the moon for her granddaughter and having taking in her husband like her own grandson, never let her forget that she was old and wanted to see Kikyou with a family. And unfortunately, that same opinion extended over to him as well, since she saw him as another grandson.
She wanted great grandbabies, goddammit, before she withered away and died, if you please.
Shaking his head, though not without a fond smile, Inuyasha sighed and slanted a look toward Kagome. She was still blushing and looking at the counter, drawing patterns on the smooth wood while avoiding his gaze. Then she peeked over at him from under thick sooty lashes, noticed him staring, and released the most adorable fucking squeak before hastily darting her gaze away again, her blush darkening.
His heart twinged in his chest and he had to fight against the urge to brush her bangs away from her eyes to draw her gaze back to him. Fuck, but she was cute.
“Sorry about that,” he finally murmured and gave a helpless shrug. “She likes to meddle.”
He grinned, hoping to ease her discomfort a little and was gratified to see that it worked, Kagome’s shoulders losing some of their tension as she slowly relaxed. Though her face was still tinted pink, she offered him a shy smile and nodded, accepting his explanation.
“I like her,” she admitted after a minute, her smile widening a little as she dropped her gaze, but this time out of thoughtfulness and not embarrassment. “She reminds me of my grandpa. He likes to meddle, too, and would always scare away any boy that came sniffing around when I was a teen.”
She laughed softly and he relished in the sound, ears straining to hear more of it.
“Yeah?” he queried, genuinely curious as he propped an elbow on the counter and rested his head in his hand. “Where’s your family now?”
With a truly brilliant smile and bright eyes that enchanted him better than any spell ever could, Kagome happily told him all about her family back in Japan. She gushed about her closeness with her mom, her younger brother and his annoying penchant for pranking her, and her stubborn old grandfather who was as protective of her as any father could ever be.
Kagome was regaling him with fond stories she remembered when her father had still been alive when Kaede appeared with their orders, setting two steaming bowls of ramen before them followed by a beer for Inuyasha and a strawberry lemonade for Kagome. Then with a friendly smile toward the younger woman and a knowing wink toward her favorite customer, Kaede whisked away back into the kitchen to start cleaning up, her heart feeling light from the fact that her dear boy had finally found someone for him.
During their meal, Kagome persuaded Inuyasha to share a bit of his own history with her, and so the half-demon ended up telling her about his less than stellar relationship with Sesshomaru. Though they were much better off now than when they were younger – Kagome had been shocked to learn they’d outright hated each other at one point – they still argued and brawled at times, but it was never serious and more out of habit than anything. Inuyasha assured her they’d both matured greatly, and while they would never have a sibling relationship with zero hostility, Inuyasha was more or less happy with that they had and accepted they would never be close brothers.
It was easy to tell Kagome was upset for his benefit that his relationship with his half-brother wasn’t at all like the one she shared with her own. So, he did his best to distract her with questions about her own family, truly touched that she was upset to begin with. Thankfully it worked and soon she was all smiles again, laughing as she told him about the time she’d caught Souta with his first time girlfriend making out on the living room couch.
Soon enough, Inuyasha was paying the bill and unsurprisingly Kaede was refusing to accept his money, saying it was on the house and simply making shooing motions when he kept urging her to take it. He gave up after she threatened to have his next ten meals on the house as well. Despite his grumblings, he was patient as Kagome called back her farewells to the old shop owner waving from the counter with a big smile and wishing them a good night, calling his own fond adieu before ushering her out the door with a hand at her back. He was glad the two women got along so well and it gave him high hopes she’d act similarly with the younger Hidaka woman.
Tucking Kagome into the safety of his car, Inuyasha was quick to hop in beside her and merge back into traffic before anyone recognized him. He was grateful Kaede’s had been more or less empty and the few people who had been there were too absorbed in their meal and company to notice him.
Glancing at the clock on the dash, Inuyasha chewed his lip and thought there was still enough time to head to Jak’s. He’d be a half an hour late, but knew the designer wouldn’t mind, understanding that his schedule was fairly unpredictable and could change at any given time. He was probably caught up in one of his many orders anyway and wasn’t keeping track of the time as he often did.
Mind made up, Inuyasha flicked his signal on and eased over into the turning lane that merged onto the highway. Jak’s Boutique was a little further into the city, but it was an easy drive and thankfully they’d missed rush hour. Perhaps he should have asked Kagome first before taking her with him, but glancing over at her now, the way she relaxed into the plush seat and graced him with a trusting smile suggested that she didn’t mind.
“Alright,” Kagome said when his eyes met hers, smile still in place. “Now where are you taking me? I don’t suppose now would be a good time to scream out the window, ‘Help, I’m being kidnapped’ before opening the door and attempting a daring escape.”
Inuyasha was silent as he side-eyed her for a minute, the corner of his mouth flickering with the hint of a grin. Then a second later the unmistakable sound of the door locks shifting into place echoed in the cab.
Kagome promptly erupted into giggles and Inuyasha allowed a crooked smile to surface on his face.
As Kagome’s giggles finally died down, Inuyasha chuckled and finally admitted, “Just a quick errand, I promise. I hope you don’t mind.” She shook her head, confirming his suspicions, and he tacked on, “And besides, it’s basically for you anyway.”
Kagome blinked. “What? What do you mean it’s for me?”
He simply grinned and Kagome narrowed her eyes at him.
“Inuyasha...” she warned and when still all he did was shake his head, Kagome pouted and crossed her arms, however the twitching of her mouth belied her mock glare.
Chuckling, Inuyasha reached over to catch her hand and bring it to his mouth, pressing a brief kiss to her knuckles.
“You’ll see,” he promised her, noticing the way her cheeks flamed with color, but deigning not to comment as he kept his eyes on the road, an easy smile on his face.
Kagome huffed and mumbled something, wrinkling her nose as she stared out the window, before finally sighing and letting a smile curl her lips upward.
She didn’t pull her hand away and neither did he.
Approximately sixteen minutes later Inuyasha turned onto a quiet residential street just on the fringes of the city and cruised about a quarter of the way down before turning into a narrow driveway to a quaint blue ranch style house. Kagome was surprised when he kept going, but then it made sense when another building came into view behind the house, smaller and painted in the same color with a red neon sign in the window that read Jak’s Boutique.
Inuyasha parked in front of the small shop and cut the engine, gesturing for Kagome to exit before doing so himself. Puzzled but curious, Kagome followed suit and met him at the front of the car. He took her hand, tipped her a reassuring grin, and led her inside the shop.
“Jakotsu,” Inuyasha called out and let the door swing gently shut behind them.
“Sha?” a slightly muffled feminine voice answered from somewhere in the back of the shop.
“Yeah. Sorry I’m late. Lost track of time.”
“You’re always late,” the voice called out and ignoring Inuyasha’s half-hearted “I am not,” it continued, “Be out in a sec, darling, I’m almost finished with this order. Zippers are always a bitch to attach.”
The producer chuckled. “Take your time.”
Tossing him a bemused smile, to which Inuyasha returned with raised eyebrows and a shrug, Kagome rolled her eyes and took the opportunity to look around. It was obvious they were standing in some kind of clothing store, or perhaps even a tailor’s considering the amount of dresses and suits Kagome spotted. Behind the counter to the left were two rows of bagged garments waiting to be picked up, and the far wall consisted of an assortment of gorgeous looking evening gowns, tuxedos, and other formal wear.
Clothing racks, the kind you would see in a department store, dotted the floor and to the right the wall held bolts of fabric that seemed to be in every color, pattern, and texture imaginable. On the long table before it, sewing materials littered the surface; scissors, a sewing machine, scraps of fabric, thread, needles, and other items one would find in an average sewing kit.
“Inuyasha?” Kagome ventured, truly lost on the reason of them being here. “Why are we in a tailor’s shop?”
He tilted his head and glanced down at her, arching a brow with a slight grin. “I know you’re smarter than that, babydoll,” he teased her, squeezing her hand. “C’mon. Think about it. I find that jeans and t-shirts don’t really pair well with heels.”
Kagome stared at him for a second more before realization dawned and her eyes widened, her mouth dropping open with an incredulous gasp. “You conniving little prick, that’s why Sango asked for my measurements last week!”
Laughing outright as Kagome whacked him in the arm for going behind her back, Inuyasha caught her hand. He dragged her in front of him, wrapping his arms around her waist instead and resting his chin on her head.
“Damn, you’re violent,” he told her fondly, tightening his arms when she attempted to squirm her way free.
“Lemme go.”
“No. You’ll hit me again.”
“No I won’t.”
“Liar.”
“I would never.”
He snorted.
“Why are you buying me clothes, Inuyasha? You’re already doing so much for me, I don’t expect you too—”
“I know, babydoll,” Inuyasha interrupted her and leaned down so he could catch her gaze. “I want to, alright? I told you I was gonna help you, that means I’m gonna do whatever it takes to get your success, and success includes providing an outfit that I doubt you’ll find anywhere in your wardrobe. We want sexy confidence, remember, not prude librarian.”
Kagome flushed and stuck her tongue out at him.
He screwed his face up and crossed his eyes at her.
She snorted a laugh and slapped a hand over her mouth to smother the embarrassing sound just as an amused voice drawled out, “I have a room in the back that’s free, if you two would like to utilize it...?”
Inuyasha’s ears perked up and he looked hopeful. “Really? Oomph.”
Painted lips twitched and the shop owner couldn’t quite hold back the smile as he said, “If you’ll come with me, honey, I can get you fitted into your new clothes and see if it needs any alterations.”
“Violent,” Inuyasha repeated and rubbed his stomach where she elbowed him, watching as Kagome lifted her nose and strode away. He didn’t miss the pleased smile curling her lips, however, and he shook his head with a sigh, feeling the beginnings of his own grin tugging his mouth upward.
Sending him a look that clearly stated he would be dishing out the juicy details later, Jakotsu ushered Kagome to the back where the dressing rooms were, telling her to disrobe while he fetched her new outfit.
Rolling his eyes, Inuyasha grunted his assent and fished out his cell, figuring he’d pass the time scrolling social media while he waited. He kept his eyes on the screen, however his ears were trained toward the back, easily picking up Kagome’s shocked gasp when she finally got a good look at what she was wearing and Jak’s husky chuckle. He grinned, easily imaging how red her face was right about now.
It was a hell of a leather number, but it wasn’t anything too racy or indecent. He’d had Kagome in mind as he described what he wanted to the designer, and he was also positive Jakotsu was able to come up with something that suited his pretty dancer perfectly. His long time friend had been in the fashion industry for nearly twenty years now and his services were wildly coveted. Of course those services also weren’t free; Jak wasn’t afraid to charge what he thought was a fair price for his time and labor and his prices, while by no means cheap, were definitely fair. Jakotsu was talented as hell, he was fast, and the results were nothing short of stunning, and because of that he was pretty much booked twenty-four seven.
But because of his longtime friendship with the designer, Inuyasha was able to sneak in an order of his own. As always, Jak rose up to the task, always willing to help, and the producer was forever grateful to him. He always made sure to leave a generous tip for the designer, and although Jak never commented on it, Inuyasha suspected the gesture was very appreciated.
Inuyasha was just about to browse Kagome’s timeline on Facebook for the hell of it when he finally spotted the next notification at the top of the screen. Already suspecting who it might be, he brought up his messages with a flick of his finger.
you rang, my secret sex slave?
He snorted but grinned at the text, replying back.
vegas. this weekend. demo. yay or nay
Inuyasha hit send and idly tapped a claw against the screen as he waited for her reply. While her jackass husband was a different story altogether, he absolutely adored Kagura. She was like the favorite wine aunt that everybody knew and loved, only better because she was his sister-in-law and not his aunt. They got along famously because they had the same twisted sense of humor and it always made family gatherings so much more bearable.
Well, bearable for them. He was pretty sure for the rest of their family it was nothing short of obnoxious.
His phone buzzed and he wasn’t at all surprised to read her response, a puff of laughter escaping him.
FUCK YEAH BRO LETS LIGHT THIS BITCH UP, HOLLA see you soon, sexy 💋
Grinning, Inuyasha hurriedly sent her one last thing before ending the convo, bringing up the emojis and selecting the bikini, wine, and money emojis.
It was only seconds later he received a reply and he stood there snickering for a solid thirty seconds.
🖕🖕🖕
“Love you too, sis,” he chuckled under his breath, shaking his head.
Not so subtle throat clearing had him pocketing his phone and lifting his head. “How does it fit—...uh...”
Just a few feet away from him, standing not in the leather corset and skirt he’d commissioned, Kagome’s slim figure was wrapped up in a deep red lace number that stole the very breath from his lungs and caused all coherent thought to flee his brain. The sleeves were wide and off the shoulder with a neckline that plunged just enough to show a teasing amount of cleavage. The skirt flowed and swayed around her legs at mid-calf and it looked to be asymmetrical, the back being slightly longer than the front. The waist was empire with black laces on either side and holy fuck did she look absolutely breathtaking in it.
Inuyasha didn’t know why she was wearing it and didn’t even care as he gawked at her, amber eyes greedily taking in the vision before him. In doing so he completely missed the dark flush on her face accompanied by the pleased but shy smile at his encouraging reaction.
“Ah,” Kagome said, biting down on her lip when burnished amber flew up to meet starling blue. Her smile widened a bit and she fidgeted, shifting her weight in the borrowed heels on her feet.
“Do I...look okay?” she timidly ventured, twisting her hands nervously in front of her. “Um, J-Jakotsu said I can have it...I guess the sale fell through or something?”
When all Inuyasha continued to do was stare, Kagome’s blush deepened and she ducked her head, wondering if perhaps she’d made a mistake in letting the designer talk her into trying it on.
“I’m sorry, I...guess I should have asked—”
“You’re beautiful,” Inuyasha blurted when he finally found his voice again. It was rough and he cleared his throat, sucking in a breath as he stared directly into her eyes, easily detecting the cautious hope in the churning blue waves of her gaze.
“R-really?” she asked a little breathlessly but then it faded just as quickly and she sighed quietly, staring down at the toes of her borrowed pumps. “But you’re probably just saying that, right? I shouldn’t have—”
“No,” Inuyasha was quick to cut her off, vehemently shaking his head. Kagome lifted her head to meet his gaze again and he let out a heavy breath, his eyes lowered to half-mast. Deliberately he swept his gaze down her figure, taking in every last minute detail before slowly raking his eyes back up to meet her own once more.
“I mean it, Kagome,” he rumbled. “You look...amazing. You’re amazing.”
She must have seen the sincerity in his eyes, heard it in his voice because she finally relaxed and beamed at him, giving a short little spin for him as a light, delighted laugh floated to his ears.
Aaaaand there goes his breath again. Fuck.
Swallowing the lump in his throat, Inuyasha managed to tear his gaze away from her long enough to glance at the very smug looking designer standing behind her with his arms crossed.
“How much?” he asked because fuck it if he was leaving without that lace masterpiece.
Jakotsu smirked. “For you, darling, free of charge.”
At the producer’s frown, he shrugged and turned his gaze back to the young woman, his face softening into a fond smile. “Really. Call it a gift. The woman who commissioned it wasn’t able to pay up, and so it’s just been sitting on a mannequin in the back room, collecting dust. Honeybee here fell in love with it when she first spotted it.”
A guilty flush colored Kagome’s cheeks and she shrugged helplessly.
“It’s just dumb luck, don’t you think,” Jak said, sounding way too casual, “that it just so happens to be exactly her size?”
With that, the fashion designer tipped the half-demon a wink and strolled back from whence he came, beckoning his “Honeybee” with a crook of his finger. “This way, honey, and I’ll bag that up for you as well.”
With a radiant smile and one last glance toward him, Kagome nodded and followed after him, her borrowed heels clicking against the hardwood.
Once they were both out of sight, Inuyasha groaned and blindly reached out, catching himself on the counter to his left as he slumped against it with a hand over his heart. He dragged his free hand down his face and then thrust his fingers through his hair, closing his eyes and trying to grow some goddamn balls, for fuck’s sake.
Inuyasha was more or less composed when Jak returned a few minutes later with a knowing smirk on his face, both outfits bagged and draped over his arm. The half-demon leveled him with a look that quelled any smartass comments the designer had brewing. Clicking his tongue, Jak nonetheless remained quiet as he went behind the counter and rang him up for the leather outfit that was the purpose for this visit.
“How’d you do it?” Inuyasha murmured, fishing out his wallet and handing over his credit card.
“Do what?” his friend asked, his tone light, innocent. Inuyasha didn’t buy it for a minute.
“Don’t give me that,” he growled, scowling but it lacked any vehemence. “I can see why she’d fall in love with the dress, but how’d you talk her into coming out here and showing me? Kagome’s shy as hell. I’m surprised she hasn’t said anything about the leather yet.”
Jakotsu clicked his tongue and inserted the chip end of the card into the card reader. “I didn’t.”
Inuyasha frowned. “What?”
The tailor paused and dark eyes flitted up to meet his own. A delicate brow arched up into carefully styled bangs and the corners of his lips hinted at a smile.
“I didn’t talk her into it. She wanted to show you herself.”
It was just closing in on 9 pm when Inuyasha pulled into the parking lot of Kagome’s apartment building and he was relieved to discover that it was one of the newer buildings with updated security. However, paranoid asshole that he was, he was still going to worry about her after he left no matter how new and fancy the alarm systems were. It was always dangerous for a young woman to be living alone, but he supposed short of staying here all night to watch over her, there wasn’t much Inuyasha could do so he dealt with it was best as he could and forced it from his mind.
Cutting the engine, he hopped out and rushed over to the passenger side. Before Kagome could protest, he reached in and stole both garment bags from her. She tossed him a grateful smile and threw her messenger bag over her shoulder before stepping out, allowing Inuyasha to shut the door for her as she dug around in her bag for her keys.
Neither spoke as Kagome led him up the staircase to the second floor and about halfway down the walkway before stopping in front of apartment 23D. Discreetly Inuyasha took in the scents as Kagome went about unlocking the door, gratified when he detected nothing that raised any red flags. He didn’t hear anything suspicious, saw nothing out of the ordinary, and finally conceded to himself it wasn’t a bad place to live.
“Um, would you mind bringing them in, please?” Kagome asked him, looking hopefully over her shoulder. At his nod, she smiled and unlocked the door, swinging it open.
“You can put them on the couch,” she told him as she stepped aside to let him pass, shutting the door behind him and flicking a light on. “I’ll take care of them later.”
Inuyasha grunted his acknowledgement and did as he was bade, stepping into the living room and carefully draping the bags over the back of the couch before stuffing his hands in his pockets and taking a look around. It was your standard apartment, nothing fancy; smallish kitchen to the left when you walked in, living room to the right, and a short hallway straight ahead where he assumed the bathroom and bedroom were.
It was tidy, smelled like her, and Inuyasha decided he liked it. “Nice place,” he commented, turning his gaze to her as she set her bag on the bar counter that separated the two rooms.
Kagome smiled and kicked off her shoes. “It’s not bad,” she conceded with a shrug and she wandered over to him. “It’s affordable and suits my purposes just fine.”
Inuyasha grinned. “I suppose it does,” he murmured and reached out to flick the bill of his hat she’d stolen from him. Whatever. Looked better on her, anyhow.
She giggled and took it off so she could hand it back, but then Inuyasha shook his head and pulled it back down onto her own again. She blinked in surprise, gazing up at him from under the bill of his cap.
“Nah,” he rumbled and gave it a playful tug. “Looks better on you, anyway.”
Kagome’s eyes widened slightly as a blush stole across her cheeks. It was impossible to mistake the delight that flitted across her face and curled her lips upward into a soft smile.
“Good,” she said and her smile turned teasing as she reached up to set the cap more comfortably on her head. “Because I didn’t wanna give it back. I like this hat.”
Inuyasha snorted. “Cheeky brat,” he said and darted his hands out to try and tickle her, but she danced away with a mischievous giggle. He grinned and released a fond chuckle, shaking his head.
Confident he wasn’t going to try and tickle her again, Kagome edged closer and graced him with a brilliant smile. He was momentarily struck stupid and all he could do was stare and wonder how the fuck someone could be so damned beautiful and not know it.
“Thank you for today,” she said softly, the sincerity in her eyes and voice clear as day. Her blush was completely endearing as she continued, “You know, for...everything. Dinner, the clothes...um, K-Kouga.”
She ducked her head and her scent soured slightly as she recalled previous events. Inuyasha felt his mood momentarily darken as he also remembered that wolf creep who bothered her today.
He hoped to god the idiot had enough brains to stay away from her after boldly claiming that she was his, but he also wouldn’t put it past the shit for brains to try something again. Inuyasha could sense that he was the kind that couldn’t take a hint. Though he was glad she was going to be cautious by walking with her friends to and from class, he still didn’t like the thought of her being on the same campus as the fleabag. Especially when he was going to be about three hundred miles away and able to do absolutely fucking jack shit about it, and didn’t that darken his mood even more.
Biting back a growl, Inuyasha closed the scant distance between them and brushed his fingers across her cheek, prompting her to lift her head with a quiet gasp.
“You’re welcome,” he rumbled. “I wish like hell I could stick around to protect you ‘cause I know I’m gonna do nothing but worry while I’m away.”
Kagome blinked and her brow furrowed. “Are you going somewhere?”
Inuyasha sighed and grimaced before supplying, “I have a demo in Las Vegas this weekend that I can’t miss. My flight leaves early tomorrow morning and I won’t be back until Sunday night.”
He watched in dismay as Kagome’s face dropped in disappointment, though she tried to mask it with an understanding smile.
“Oh,” she whispered and well, hell. “That’s okay. I have clinical anyway, so...” She shrugged and looked away.
Yeah...no.
“C’mere,” he mumbled and tugged her against him, wrapping her up in his arms and briefly taking his hat off her head so he could bury his nose in her hair. Apparently giving up her front, Kagome’s arms slipped around his waist and he dropped a kiss to the top of her head. He felt guilty, which was ridiculous; he’d had this trip scheduled for over a month and he knew it was approaching.
Thing was, though, he felt like he was leaving Kagome behind and he absolutely hated it.
“Gonna miss me that much, huh?” he teased and felt her smile against his chest as she muttered for him to shut up. “I’d come back Saturday after it’s over if I could, but I have to attend a meeting Sunday morning and go over a bunch of boring shit that’ll probably put me to sleep.”
He was rewarded by her soft giggle. Gratified, Inuyasha pulled away and racked his fingers through her hair, quirking a grin. She returned it with a small but genuine smile
“Text me whenever you want,” he urged, sifting his fingers through her bangs and pushing them away from her eyes. “And on those really lonely nights, you can send a pic—”
“Ohmigod, shut up,” Kagome muttered and swatted his stomach, flushing darkly as he snickered and grinned unrepentantly. She rolled her eyes and tried to cross her arms but he snagged he around the waist again and brought her in for another hug.
“Fine, no pictures,” he chuckled and felt more than heard her huff. A second later her arms slipped back around his waist and he grinned in triumph. “Try not to miss me too much, babydoll. I’ll be back before you know it.”
Kagome smiled and sighed. “Back atcha.” She inhaled, taking in his scent of his favorite cologne and something earthier, attempting to ingrain it into her brain.
No promises, he thought and almost said it out loud before he caught himself. Selfishly holding her for just a minute longer, taking in her intoxicating scent and committing it to memory, Inuyasha sighed and finally pulled away. Fuck, but he was pathetic. It’s not like he was leaving for a fucking month. It was three goddamn days, for fuck’s sake!
Clearing his throat, he tugged his hat back down onto her head and flicked the bill, staring into twin pools of endless blue.
“Stay safe, babydoll. You call me if you need anything, alright? I’ll do what I can. The studio’s open for you whenever. Sango has a spare key and I’ll tell her you’re free to use it before I leave.”
Kagome actually rolled her eyes at him and tipped him a grin. “I’ll be fine, Inuyasha. I’m a big girl. I’ve been taking care of myself long before you came along, remember.” She winked and poked his chest. “I’m sure I can manage three days without my loyal guard dog.”
The look he shot her suggested her comment was not appreciated and her giggle told him she well knew that.
“Smartass,” he muttered and was just about to turn around to leave, feeling oddly bereft, when a small hand tugging on his arm gave him pause and he glanced curiously down at her.
Kagome blushed and before he could ask if she was okay, she surged up and pressed her lips to his cheek. The urge to turn his head and claim her lips with his own came out of nowhere and he sucked in a sharp breath as his heart kick started in his chest.
“Safe travels,” Kagome whispered, leaning back down and offering him a timid smile. “Text me when you land? So I know you got there safely?”
Expression softening, Inuyasha couldn’t resist bringing her back in for one last hug and she went willingly, tucking herself against him with a sigh.
“Will do, babydoll,” he rumbled and kissed her forehead. “Stay safe. See you Monday?”
Kagome nodded. With one last grin aimed her way, Inuyasha turned and exited the apartment, closing the door and waiting until he heard the snick of the lock and the deadbolt sliding home before walking away. Strangely, as he descended the stairs and fought against the urge to look back, he couldn’t help but feel that he’d just left his heart back in that apartment.
i plan on compiling all of the text screenshots i created for this story into one post after the last chapter is posted. just for the fuck of it because i had a lot of fun making them haha.

•Himiko would understand your struggle if you couldn’t remember a word or phrase
•She has trouble memorizing her chants for magic sometimes, so she’s likely to give you a little push in the right direction to keep trying!
•She says she’ll use her magic to help you remember it
•And oddly enough, it actually did help you remember it!
•She’s always reminding you to never give up on what you love
•“Nyeh... Sometimes things are difficult, S/o, but it wouldn’t be any fun if it was easy!”
•She’s right
•And with the support and happiness of your girlfriend, you could hardly want anything else
Kirumi Tojo
•Kirumi definitely knows other languages
•She has served as a maid in other countries, therefore needs to know a fair amount of languages
•If she didn’t know the one you had picked up, she is now doing her best to learn it
•So you two study together!
•She will prepare some tea and you two can sit in each other’s presence, reading through notes or listening to music in the said language
•It’s quite nice, actually
•If you find yourself forgetting a word or phrase, Kirumi is sure to use it in sentences throughout the day, slowly
•It helps, it truly does!
•She’ll plaster little sticky notes to you in the language, usually translating to, “Have a good day, I love you.” Or something sweet along the lines of that
•It might even get more complex, depending on how advanced you are in the language
•Really, she loves seeing you doing something you adore so much!
•She will always try to make sure you are motivated, finding you reasons to keep going through with studying a language
•She’s doing her best, and so are you
•It’s enough
•Somehow, that reassures you
Miu Iruma
•Miu thought it was very cool that you were learning a language!
•It was something hardworking and important, almost like her inventions, so she liked what you were learning
•She definitely asks you how to say vulgar words
•She yells them at Kokichi quite often
•In fact, she once was in a heated argument with him and asked you how to say I hate you
•You responded with how to say I love you instead
•It’s very funny to see them both yelling that they love each other, and they don’t even know it
•Anyways, there are times she would just be working on her new inventions, focused while you calmly sat in a corner of her room, studying
•Sometimes, you two have to motivate each other
•Because, frankly, both of you get times where you feel like you don’t want to do what you love anymore, that it’s completely and utterly useless
•So you have to reassure each other
•There were times where she asked you to call her a cum dumpster in the language you’re learning
•You aren’t sure how to feel about that
•But— She really does admire what you do!
•She hopes that when it all comes down to it, you know that she thinks you’re more than talented
•And she couldn’t be prouder.
•“Hey, idiot! Did you know my significant other speaks—”
•“Miu, be quiet!”
Kaede Akamatsu
•Kaede really admires that you’re learning another language!
•She thinks it’s nice to see someone put so much genuine effort into a topic, and it makes her happy
•She’ll definitely ask you to teach her a couple phrases so she isn’t completely clueless when you speak
•In fact, she probably learned a song on the piano that was in the language you were learning!
•She played it for you, and it was really sweet
•Kaede would scribble little language learning tips she found on the internet on a piece of paper and tape it to your wall, hoping you would find it useful
•She also likes hearing you speak in the language!
•It’s just so calming yet foreign to her, and she loves it, it’s quite endearing to her
•If you ever feel tired or unmotivated, she’d place a hand on your shoulder
•“Aww, S/o. You can take breaks yknow! However, you’ve got this. You’ve come so far, and I’m really impressed with you and how much you’ve learnt. I love seeing your improvement!”
•Her encouragements do make you feel better
•Kaede entirely thinks that you are very talented
•She’s happy that you’re happy with what you’re doing
•And besides, you’re doing quite a fine job, if she should say so herself!
Maki Harukawa
•Maki didn’t act like it, but she was pretty surprised when she realized you were learning a separate language
•That was rather interesting to her
•Anytime you studied, she liked to just sit beside you and scan over your notes with you, even helping you look up some words you didn’t know
•She’s nonchalant when doing so, but she’s really happy to be doing something you hold so close to your heart with you, genuinely!
•If you wanted her help in reviewing over any notes you wrote, she would ask you the word and its translation
•She loves helping you succeed, even if it doesn’t seem like it
•Also— Maki would probably like to read books in the language you’re learning with you
•She honestly doesn’t know why, but she thinks it would be fun and a good bonding experience to just tell each other a story, struggle to pronounce some words, and help each other along the way
•That sounds great to her
•Maki is rather firm when you feel like you can’t do it
•If you feel like you’re a failure, she’s quite quick to reassure you you’re anything but that
•“You’re doing great. You’ve made a ton of progress— and you’re improving a ton. I promise you you’re not a failure. You’re doing so much better than the people who aren’t even trying.”
•Overall? Maki won’t show it, but she thinks you learning another language is admirable
•It’s pretty fun to do with you, as well, so go figure!
Tsumugi Shirogane
•Ah! Someone plain like her wouldn’t have realized that you would be learning another language
•However, when she finds out, she’s more than happy to praise you for your hard work and ability to push through
•She admires anyone who even chooses to pick up another language
•She would probably try to learn names of cosplaying words in the language you’re learning, like “Cosplay” or “Outfit” along with “sewing”
•She does this so that she can say them when you’re around!
•She does want to help you become fluent, after all, in any way that she possibly can
•Tsumugi enjoys hearing you talk in another language, even if she doesn’t understand it
•She can make out just a few words, and it’s just adorable to see you happily ranting about a subject when she wasn’t even sure what you were talking about
•But she also just liked the sound of it
•It reminded her that you’re really talented, and she’s so proud!
•If you lost motivation to learn, she would list off reasons to keep going, no problem!
•She knows you love this, and she would hate to see you give it up
•“Ah... but don’t you want to meet and communicate with people who speak that language? Wouldn’t you like to change even one person’s life by telling them you care about them in their language? There’s so many reasons to keep going, S/o! And I know you’ve got this. Don’t give up.”
•As a whole, Tsumugi is really proud of you and how far you’ve come!
•She’ll always be supporting you, until the very end
•What more could the either of you want?

44: a kiss on the navel.
---
"Cannonball!"
Leaping into open air and wrapping both arms around tucked up knees, Kagome plummeted straight into deep water. Sinking like a stone for a moment, she then straightened out and kicked towards glittering sunlight above. Surfacing, she took in a few breaths, turning to grin in Sesshoumaru's direction.
Who seemed newly soaked, bangs plastered against his cheeks.
"O-oh, did I get you?" she blinked.
"Hn," he lifted wet hair away from flat eyes.
"Well we're already in a pool, suck it up," Kagome giggled, sticking out her tongue to provoke him. It had the desired effect. Sesshoumaru began swimming through the water.
"What did you just say to me?" he rumbled.
Shrieking with glee, she paddled to the far side of the pool. Luckily the waterfall was secluded in Inuyasha Forest and far from any footpaths. They typically used it to bathe but today an air of playfulness had entered Kagome, so she'd invited him there instead of their usual cave. Clad in nothing but her birthday suit, she dove underwater to try and evade him, kicking her legs madly.
Sinful hands glided under her ribs, sharp nails pricking skin- and Kagome started, pausing mid-stroke. Silver stands wafted around her like celestial reeds beneath the water. The demon swam close underneath her, managing to do so backwards.
The spirited feeling in her heart seemed to have transferred to him, as golden eyes smiled with playfulness.
Sometimes he's an enigma, but others...he's just like anyone else.
Kagome cupped his cheek and smiled, brushing noses with him, before having to pull away and surface, lungs burning. As she coughed and sputtered, droplets rolling down her face and drenched hair curling around her, Sesshoumaru joined her. Unlike the wheezing miko, he appeared unruffled.
"A human's lung capacity is pitiful," he snorted.
"Not all of us can have secretly huge lungs due to our true forms being a giant inu youkai," Kagome snarked. Drawing closer, she inwardly preened as his hands found her waist again.
It was like a gravitational pull. She'd find herself unable to resist, revelling in the warmth radiating from striped, bare skin. He was both sleek yet built, cruel yet kind, and attentive but guarded. Claws skimmed her waist, falling lower to brush her hips and then proceeded to cup a handful of her ass. His handsome face lowered to hers, lips inches away.
"Kagome!"
Jolting and causing the water to thrash, she levelled a wide-eyed look over at the far trees. The call had been hard to hear due to the proximity of the falls, but that voice was mistakable. She hadn't taken into account a Demon Slayer's tracking skills.
"T-that was Sango's voice."
Sesshoumaru looked annoyed, drifting backwards slightly. "Get rid of her," he muttered, before smoothly slipping beneath the deep blue waters and disappearing.
Kagome tried to make herself look busy by ringing out her hair and not looking too guilty of anything when Sango finally stepped out from some bushes. Her son was tied to her back, gurgling.
"Ah hello, Kagome. I thought I'd find you at the hot springs instead of here?"
She smiled and waved a hand dismissively. "Felt like a dip in something colder. What's up?"
"I was just wondering if you wanted to join Miroku and I when we leave to visit Kohaku tomorrow. I've been so busy with the children and you've been- distracted elsewhere, quite often it seems," her brows drew together worriedly. "So we haven't had a chance to talk. I hope that things with Inuyasha aren't what's causing you to leave the village so much."
I've been that obvious?
"N-no! Nothing's wrong, you don't need to be concerned. I'm just getting back into nature," she forced a smile. "Since I'm staying here in the Fuedal Era, I need to know everything about herbs. Long treks in the forest are just what's needed."
Sango looked unconvinced. "If you say so..."
Blue eyes strayed down to the open waters beneath her feet, hoping Sesshoumaru was alright. "A-anyway, about visiting Kohaku..." it was hard to scramble for an excuse.
"I think you should come," Sango said firmly. Kagome fell silent, watching the demon slayer with mild surprise. "Even if you say nothings wrong, I can tell something is going on with you. A break from routine would do you some good."
"I-it would?" her attention stayed to air bubbles starting to surface near her left side.
When her friend gave a stubborn nod, Kagome's face fell into a beleaguered expression. "Kaede might need me to stay-"
"Kaede has Rin to help her, and pretty much the rest of the village at her beck and call."
Caught, Kagome glanced at building air bubbles, shifting to try and cover them. "Okay, okay!" she burst, nodding enthusiastically. "I'll do it."
Relief and joy brightened Sango's eyes. "Wonderful! You should walk back with me to pack any supplies you might need."
"Ah...I'll finish up here first. Go ahead without me, I'll catch up!"
This seemed to satisfy her friend enough to turn and leave. The second she was gone Kagome whirled around and started frantically whispering; "Sesshoumaru! You can come back up!"
Not seeing any pale, naked Daiyoukais swim up, worry started to churn within her gut like a tempest. Maybe he was all talk and actually did need air just as often as a human? In which case, he was likely struggling!
"That stubborn jerk," she muttered, about to dive headfirst into the wide pool- until a familiar sensation of a mouth caressed the chilled flesh of her navel. Lurching 3 feet into the air, Kagome shrieked.
Sesshoumaru surfaced, shamefully forced to suck in a few breaths. He arched a brow, "you took some time."
She calmed, placing a hand over her racing heart. "Are you alright? I'm sorry, I couldn't wrap up the conversation naturally enough to make her leave earlier."
He hummed calmly, drifting closer. "No matter. We have all the time in the world now..." greedy hands reached for her again. Kagome forced herself to pull back, despairing at the confusion that flashed momentarily on his face.
"Actually, to get her to leave quicker I had to agree to something. I'll be visiting Kohaku with her," she sighed. "It takes four days to travel there, so I guess...I might be gone a little while."
Comforting warm fires were snuffed out within his eyes. Sesshoumaru wiped his face of all expression. "I see," he said in a clipped tone.
Kagome's shoulders fell as she trod water, feeling like the mood had been well and truly killed. She didn't want to be clingy and didn't expect anything of him, so she forced herself not to ask if he wanted her to say. Kagome was no doormat, she could refuse to go along with what Sango suggested. And yet...a part of her felt interested to know what his reaction would be. Would he become frustrated from the lack of sex and seek out someone else? Somehow, she found herself doubting that possibility, despite her history of insecurity. Why remained to be seen.
Drawing away and swimming towards the rocks where she'd stashed her supplies, Kagome mused that she could visit Totosai while travelling. These thoughts were cut off as an arm snaked around her waist and pulled her back against a strong chest. Freezing, her attention slid over one shoulder, wondering at his tight grip and thin, displeased lips.
"...You will become frustrated if you go too long without sufficient pleasure. I will tend to you before you leave."
Kagome searched his face, relief touching her features as she slid both arms around his neck, bringing their chests flush against one another.
"I-I guess it'll stave off the loneliness too."
It won't stop me from missing you, wanting you, she thought, a little alarmed by her impending sense of dread. What the heck have you done to me, Sesshoumaru?

All Emiya-san AU's are good AU's (its where my Actor Fionn lives too lol) and man there's a lot of untapped comedy gold of Shirou hearing all these stories about Diarmuid scaring away rude customers and thinking he looks super scarred up or w/e and then he meets him and it's like "??? he looks so nice?? are u sure this is the guy who nearly stabbed someones eye out???"
EHEHEHE I wrote a thing beneath the read more I looooove the Emiya Gohan AUS so much...
Everything about this situation was concerning for Shirou. It was bad enough that Archer was using Shirou’s name (the number of times he’d gotten, “Is that guy a relative of yours, Emiya-kun?” from ignorant but well-meaning classmates was starting to grate on his nerves) at his dumb part-time job (why Servants even needed part-time jobs was a mystery) and the fact that Lancer kept popping up to invite Taiga out for dinner and drinking but now, apparently, a third Servant had arrived.
The cafe’s regulars, of course, had no idea he was a Servant. Sakura and Rider had confirmed it after visiting the cafe on one of their dates, but didn’t seem to be worried. Of course, they weren’t worried. Sakura and Rider had enough power and magical energy between them to flatten the city, let alone deal with Servants. Rin also brushed off what Shirou believed was a wholly justified concern - “He’s probably just some lingering ghost from a past Grail War. Archer seems to like him fine, and he hangs out around Lancer, so what’s the big deal? If he becomes a problem, we’ll just deal with it like we always do.”
But in Shirou’s view, the Servant was already a problem. It was bad enough that the restored Servants of the Fifth Grail War could still draw upon the wild, free-flowing magic of Fuyuki’s leylines and pop up whenever they pleased - the fact that Servants from previous wars might show up too was giving him anxiety.
And this was before the rumors started.
Nobody seemed to know the guy’s name, or remember it if they saw it written down. He would pop up - always in the vicinity of the cafe - and often left behind gifts. One time, it was a bottle of wine for the manager. Another time, an antique coin for one of the waiters. He always seemed to disappear right when anyone asked for information about him, and reappear whenever something interesting happened. One time, near closing, a couple of drunk university students came in and tried to convince their waitress to leave in their car. When she refused, one of them joked about following her home.
At once, the mystery Servant walked in the door.
Another time, a middle-aged man from out of town shouted at one of the baristas until they had to run into the back to cry for the rest of their shift. On the local news the next morning, the man appeared to have been dropped at the hospital with a broken jaw and a soul full of remorse.
(Lancer actually laughed when he informed Shirou of this story.
“You were there and didn’t say anything?”
“Hey, I was the guy who had to deal with the asshole after he made our barista run off. It wasn’t a big deal, I just happened to call in a favor from a friend. Plus, he deserved it.”
And Lancer winked, like they were sharing an inside joke.)
And so on and so forth. Nobody could purge the service industry of customer horror stories, but this mystery Servant seemed to be doing his damnedest to make a dent in the problem. He was the most ghost-like of any Servant that Shriou had ever encountered.
Ayako and Kaede quickly became regulars at the cafe. Shirou thought it was hard to tell whether or not they were in love with the mystery Servant or whether or not they wanted to challenge him to a duel. It seemed to be a combination of both.
“He’s like, the toughest guy I’ve ever seen,” said Ayako, mystified. “I swear I thought he was going to tear that woman’s throat out.”
“This guy threatened a customer,” Shirou said, “and you’re happy?”
“Well, she was being rude to Yukika,” Kaede retorted, like that settled the matter. “I mean, I wasn’t counting, but I think she sent her coffee back six times before anyone said anything. She kept berating her like it was Yukika’s fault that she kept changing her mind about sugar and milk. She literally lied about what her original order was to get a free drink. It was awful.”
“But then this guy shows up,” Ayako continued the story, talking over Kaede as she continued muttering about the injustice faced by the track team’s manager. “And he clocks what’s happening, like, instantly. I dunno where the blue-haired guy was, I guess he was late for his shift or something, but he just - “
She motioned like she was trying to take up more space than her physical body allowed.
“I swear, it was like you could’ve heard a pin drop! He takes one look at Yukika and just goes up to the lady and -”
Another vague gesture like a karate chop.
“He hit this woman?” Shirou said, outraged.
“Nah, he wouldn’t hit anyone,” Kaede said, nodding sagely. “He doesn’t really need to, you know? You could just take one look at him and you know not to mess with this guy when he’s mad.”
That settled it. Shirou had to investigate on his own, since obviously no one else was going to take this seriously. It was bad that customers were mistreating the staff at Yukika’s job, but a Servant threatening humans was unacceptable.
It was time, at last, to enlist Saber’s help.
She had been living at Shirou’s house since her restoration, recovering from her injuries. Shirou hated the idea of asking her to fight again, especially when she was so clearly enjoying her life as a “normal human,” but he couldn’t afford to hold back if there was a dangerous, unknown Servant in the city. To her credit, Saber was happy to assist. She said she had been meaning to drop by and try Archer’s cooking for quite some time.
The two of them met on Sunday for lunch. Saber ordered two coffees and went into the kitchen to see Archer. Yukika wasn’t on shift today, so Shirou didn’t recognize any of the other staff. But he did notice that they all kept watching the door, as if waiting for something.
After the coffees arrived (Saber’s was left to cool on the table), the bell above the door chimed. Shirou felt the shift in the area’s magical energy before he looked up and saw the Servant himself. It was remarkably subtle, considering that it was like an icy draft passing through the cafe. You wouldn’t notice unless you were looking for it.
The waitstaff was suddenly all smiles.
Shirou looked up - and felt his jaw drop to the floor.
He did not look remotely threatening. The mystery Servant was, in fact, the most physically beautiful person that Shirou had ever seen in his life. Tall and muscular - his build was not dissimilar to Lancer, though he lacked Lancer’s wolfish aura - with a head of dark, thick curls. His face was elegant, from piercing, bright eyes all the way down to his perfect lips, only marred by a tiny beauty mark beneath his right eye.
Shirou had to look away, blushing despite himself. What the hell is wrong with me? He realized belatedly that he had come to this battle totally unprepared for a charm attack.
Is this guy cursed or something?
That was the only explanation. Why else did he feel like he would collapse if he looked this Servant directly in the face for too long? It wasn’t normal.
And on second glance, it appeared that Shirou wasn’t the only person taken aback. A couple on a date had paused their conversation to stare at the Servant, murmuring their appreciation in hushed tones; a middle-aged woman was holding a fork in her hand, oblivious to the fact that her cake had just splattered over her shoes. Two little kids were waving at him, apparently recognizing him from somewhere, and their parents had to hurriedly shush them because it’s rude to try and pull someone out of a conversation like that.
One of the waiters was talking to him. Shirou strained to listen, shaking himself.
“Want the usual?”
“If it’s not too much trouble,” said the Servant, in a smooth, polite voice that made Shirou hate him irrationally. Stupid, handsome guy. “Is Cu in today?”
“I think he said he’s on vacation,” the waiter replied. “But Emiya’s here if you want to talk to him.”
Shirou looked up, baffled by the fact that the unfamiliar waiter knew his name, momentarily forgetting that Archer had stolen his name as a cover-up.
The Servant noticed. Barely a glance, a flicker of the gaze in his direction.
Shirou turned back and drank deeply from his coffee, which scalded his tongue.
“Oh, I see,” said the Servant, sounding amused now. “Thank you.”
“Sure thing! I’ll let him know you’re here.”
Once the initial shock of the Servant’s appearance dissipated, everything went back to normal so fast that it was almost jarring. The middle-aged woman clicked her tongue and grabbed napkins to clean up her shoes; the couple resumed planning the rest of their day; the kids kept eating, having gotten bored with trying to get the Servant’s attention. The faint, drafty aura of magic passed and the temperature in the cafe seemed to rise back to comfortable levels. Definitely cursed, Shirou decided, frowning into his coffee cup.
“Excuse me?”
Shirou blanched. The Servant had appeared behind him, smiling patiently.
“Are you waiting for someone?” he asked, indicating Saber’s coffee cup.
Shirou was suddenly, oddly conflicted. Without knowing what this Servant was capable of, was it fair to expose Saber like this?
“Uh, no,” he said, uselessly. “Well, not exactly.”
The Servant waited, patiently, for him to explain. Shirou grimaced.
“My friend is a friend of the guy who cooks here,” he said, hating himself for giving it away. “She wanted to come visit him, so I’m just waiting for her to get back before we leave.”
“Really?” said the Servant, smiling. “That’s nice. You’re a friend of Emiya?”
Shirou twitched. “No. I am Emiya.”
“Oh?”
“Not related to that guy, obviously,” he muttered. “But - anyway,” Shirou blurted, suddenly noticing a distinctive piece of fly-away blonde hair emerging from the kitchen, “it’s a long story, and we’d better get going, so see you later -”
He hastily threw some money down on the table for his coffee and rushed to Saber’s side.
“What’s the matter?” she asked him, brows furrowed with concern. “I thought that you were -”
“Saber!”
Shirou winced, and then - wait a minute. How on Earth did the enemy Servant know Saber’s name!?
To his horror, a huge smile spread over Saber’s face.
“Saber, don’t!” Shirou hissed. “You have to look away! This guy’s got some kind of charm spell on him that -”
Saber only laughed and lightly pushed him aside. Though she’d scarcely used a fraction of her true strength, Shirou stumbled.
“Oh, don’t be silly, Shirou. This is an old friend of mine.”
And she crossed the cafe in order to give the Servant a huge hug. Because Saber was approximately half of the mystery Servant’s size, he was able to lift her easily and spun her in a circle. Saber laughed at this.
“I must admit I’m surprised!” she said. “I didn’t think -”
Saber seemed to become self-conscious. But the enemy Servant merely beamed.
“Think nothing of it! I had no idea you were here in the city.”
“Really? Cu and Emiya didn’t tell you?”
“They mentioned a surprise,” said the Servant, shrugging. “I suppose this must be it.”
Saber shook her head. “Of course they did. Foolish boys.”
“I must apologize - I was introducing myself to your friend.”
“Oh, yes! This is my current Master, Shirou. Shirou,” said Saber, waving to him. “This is my old friend - he was a Lancer in the previous quest for the Grail.”
“Please,” said the former Lancer, “call me Diarmuid, if you’d like.”
He gave away his True Name so casually. Who the hell is he, though? Shirou frowned as he came closer.
“Sorry,” he muttered. “I didn’t realize you were one of Saber’s friends.”
“And I did not realize you were a mage,” said Diarmuid, breezily. “But no matter! Are you really leaving?” he asked Saber. “Your Master has indicated that you might have plans -”
“Nonsense!” Saber assured him, cheerful as well. “We were just sitting down. Did you order? I’ve been meaning to try Archer’s cooking for awhile, you see, so I plan to stay here for the afternoon.”
Saber and Diarmuid walked back to their table and pulled up a third chair.
Shirou bit back a groan.
It was going to be a long day.

Challenge Accepted! (SKW2020D7)
For SessKag Week 2020 Day 7, I tried my luck with the SessKag Trope Generator and got "Sesshoumaru mistakes Kagome's Sass for Flirting" & "Sesshoumaru's mobile day care". This bit of silliness ensued.
Also posted on AO3, Dokuga & FFnet!
When, in the final year of high school, Kagome had needed to fill out forms for career counselling and to start seriously planning her future… This hadn’t made the list.
For one, she had not been sure back then if she ever could return back to the Feudal era.
But even when she had been considering that unlikely (or so she had thought) scenario, she had pictured it all very differently.
She’d had daydreams of her and Inuyasha. Of a peaceful life in the village together with Miroku and Sango. Or maybe one of adventure, back on the road and roaming across the Sengoku era Japan.
Being covered in someone else’s bodily fluids and wrangling a hanyou toddler gearing himself up to a full-blown temper tantrum hadn’t featured into her expectations.
Not even in those rosy imaginations of her and Inuyasha’s possible future children.
She really hadn’t had a clue back then, huh?
To begin with, the well had reopened, and Kagome had abandoned all the plans she had made for the future in a split-second decision to return to the past.
Secondly, she and Inuyasha, well… It turned out they were the best of friends, but any romantic notions Kagome had once harboured had died a fairly quick death when expectations and reality did not quite manage to meet.
And finally, somehow, she had ended up running an unofficial orphanage in Edo.
It had probably begun because Kagome had been giving lessons to Shippou and Rin, as well as Miroku’s and Sango’s children.
She’d wanted to fill her days with something productive, but it turned out that growing up in the 20th century didn’t really give you all the skills and knowledge needed to fit into the life in the 16th century.
But the one thing that she did have that most people around her in the village lacked, was comprehensive education.
In hindsight, deciding to put her knowledge into a good use might have been a mistake, Kagome reflected, struggling to tie the obi around the screaming toddler.
Another young hanyou, twin sister of the charming boy currently preoccupied with throwing his tantrum, tottered in on unsteady feet, then latched onto Kagome’s leg.
Literally.
Kagome winced.
“Momo-chan, sweetheart, please remember to be mindful of your claws,” she told the hanyou girl clinging to her leg.
The girl solemnly looked at where her tiny hands were resting on Kagome’s bare shin, and then carefully eased her hold.
Kagome let out a breath, and as little Mr Cranky Pants was all changed up, set the snarling and shrieking child down.
He kicked his tiny clawed feet against the floor in utter fury, and Kagome had a snapshot of understanding what Inuyasha might have been like as a child.
She'd probably dodged a bullet there. Imagine her and Inuyasha's offspring, inheriting their temper from both parents!
Not a rosy picture at all, that.
In fact, it suddenly made Shinji-kun seem a veritable little angel.
Or perhaps that title should go to Momo-chan, Kagome amended, as the girl knelt down by her brother and stroked his hair.
Awwww!
Moments like these, Kagome thought, warmth swelling in her chest, were what made it all worthwhile.
But first things first, she really needed to change into a clean kosode herself and wash the baby puke out of her hair.
“Rin?” she called out, hoping the young woman would be free to look after the twins while Kagome made herself presentable again.
All right, so she might have exaggerated a little, earlier. It wasn’t really an unofficial orphanage, and Kagome wasn’t quite running it either.
They had six orphans altogether, and although Kaede, Rin and Kagome were the main caretakers for the children, the whole village pitched in to help where they could.
Even Shippou, who was always a very sought-after playmate whenever he came back to Edo.
Most of the children were human, only the young twins were hanyou.
The three oldest children, each old enough to look after themselves, for the most part, lived with Kaede and Rin. The arrangement suited all of them, actually, because Kaede was not getting any younger, and the additional help around the house was a huge weight off of her and Rin’s shoulders.
Kagome, meanwhile, had had the dubious honour of looking after the hanyou twins.
The logic there had been that, as a miko, she was the best suited for the task, as most villagers would not be a match for a pair of half-demons, toddlers or not. And unlike Kaede, she was young enough to keep up with the pair.
Kagome, technically, was also taking care of the youngest child, hence the baby puke in her hair.
In practice, though, the infant boy spent a lot of time over at Sango’s and Miroku’s, as Sango had very kindly volunteered to be the little baby boy’s wet nurse.
Rin still had not showed up, but all of a sudden, Shinji-kun’s temper tantrum ended, and the snarling and shrieking stopped.
Ahh, blessed silence, was all that Kagome had time to think before a flare of youki from the edge of the village raised her hackles.
Oh no.
He was back.
And he only ever did that stupid flare thing when he wanted her attention.
And he only ever wanted her attention when…
“Oh god, not another one!” Kagome groaned out lout, exasperation seeping into her very bones.
It was all the miko’s fault.
Sesshoumaru did not know how, but it was the only logical conclusion he could draw.
For years, decades, well over a century, he had wandered far and wide, in perfect solitude. (Jaken didn’t count.)
But somehow, right after his paths had first crossed with the miko, he had met Rin.
Eventually, they’d been joined by Kohaku.
After their victory over Naraku, he had parted ways with the both of them and resumed his peaceful lone existence.
And alone he had remained (Jaken still didn’t count), for a blissful three years.
Then the miko had returned.
And once again, inexplicably, he had come across a human child who had insisted on following him.
Then there had been two others, banded together until they stumbled on Sesshoumaru.
Then a pair of young neglected hanyou.
Then he had come across a raided village and had heard the wail of a human infant from among the ruins, tucked away into a safe corner, probably by its now-deceased mother.
Since it was all miko’s fault, Sesshoumaru had decided the children should be her responsibility, not his.
It was a stroke of genius, even if he said it himself.
Like killing two birds with one claw.
From the very start, the miko had been a complete mystery to him.
Not the least because of the mixed signals she was always sending.
It had always been obvious there was some sort of… involvement between the miko and his younger half-brother. Sesshoumaru hadn’t known or hadn’t cared to know the exact nature of it.
Yet, throughout their very loose acquaintance, the miko had been challenging him.
Even upon their first meeting, when she had watched from the side lines while he and Inuyasha had battled over the mastery of Tessaiga in their father’s tomb, the miko had still managed to stand up to him, by yelling advice to Inuyasha.
Then, adding insult to injury, she had been the one to pull their father’s fang out.
At every turn, she had defied him and stood her ground, talked back to him, demanded explanations of him, called him names, never shown fear... Always ready to pitch her will against his.
The miko had shattered his armour with her arrow early on in their acquaintance, and if that hadn’t been a challenge, Sesshoumaru didn’t know what was! Especially when she had promptly fired another arrow at him afterwards!
So now, at last – and once it had become clear whatever there was between Inuyasha and the miko did not exceed the bounds of friendship – Sesshoumaru had started to challenge her back.
Currently, his preferred method of doing so was depositing the orphans he collected at her doorstep.
And to the miko’s credit, she had risen to the challenge marvellously.
Speaking of…
Sesshoumaru slanted a glance over his shoulder, and at the human boy following after him beside Jaken.
“We are almost there,” he informed them, his voice even.
Soon enough, they could see Edo in the distance.
A small smile rose to Sesshoumaru’s lips.
He was looking forward to the next encounter, eager to see how the miko would respond this time.
Sesshoumaru gathered his youki around himself and then let it flare up, sending a signal to his miko.
He was coming to give her her next challenge.
After finally getting Rin to look after the twins, Kagome marched to the edge of the village, where she immediately assumed a confrontational pose – hands on her hips, blue eyes glaring at Sesshoumaru.
Her gaze flicked to the young boy nervously fidgeting next to Jaken. He was human and looked to be around ten years old.
Kagome swallowed a sigh and turned to the boy.
“Hello, sweetheart. Welcome to Edo, my name is Kagome. I’ll talk to you a little later; for now you’d probably like something to eat, right? Jaken, please take him to Kaede’s.”
The kappa sputtered, but despite the grumbling under his breath, obeyed, telling the boy to follow along as he tottered away.
As soon as the two had left, Kagome whirled back to Sesshoumaru.
“How does this keep happening?” she demanded to know. “Where do you find these children? Why do you keep on bringing them here? I can’t do this anymore Sesshoumaru, I swear! This has gone on long enough!”
She was pushing into his personal space now, all but wagging her finger at his face in righteous fury.
“I agree,” Sesshoumaru intoned smoothly.
“I’m telling you,” Kagome growled. “...Wait, what?”
“You are correct, miko, that is time to bring this charade to an end. Entertaining though it has been, I suggest it is beyond time for us to formalise our relationship.”
And just like that, Kagome’s anger was gone. Vanished, together with any sense she’d previously had of this entire conversation.
What was the infuriating daiyoukai on about?
“What relationship?” Kagome asked, suddenly apprehensive.
“Do not act coy with me, miko,” Sesshoumaru said, his eyes hooded. “We have been going around these circles for years now.”
“What circles?” Kagome was growing both more alarmed and confused by the second.
“I have presented you with multiple challenges,” Sesshoumaru told her patiently, nodding towards Kaede’s hut. “You have risen to each one and proven yourself brilliantly.”
“Challenges?” Kagome glanced at Kaede’s hut, then her own, then at Sesshoumaru. “You’ve been bringing me children because you’ve wanted to challenge me? What the hell?!”
“In part. Mostly I brought them because of the inconvenience. Nevertheless, I figured you would not be averse to a challenge, now that you and Inuyasha are no longer… involved.”
Flabbergasted. That was the word. That was what Kagome was feeling. Her mind simply wasn’t keeping up with the complete lack of logic of Sesshoumaru’s conversation.
“What does Inuyasha have to do with this?”
“You have been challenging me since the beginning of our acquaintance,” Sesshoumaru began.
I have? Kagome wondered, trying to think back to see what on Earth Sesshoumaru could be referring to.
Maybe the time she’d had an arrow ready and aimed at him and had shouted the next one would be for his heart?
She grimaced.
“But for the longest time I was not certain if I should respond in kind, especially as Inuyasha had a prior claim,” he continued.
What claim? No. Kagome shook her head. No matter how much the daiyoukai tried to explain, none of this was making any sense.
“However I have now responded to you in kind. And you have proven yourself to me, and I assume likewise my performance whenever you have challenged me has met your approval as well. Thus, I think it is time to stop playing these games and make it official.”
“Make what official, Sesshoumaru?” Kagome snapped losing patience.
Feeling stupid also didn’t help her temper.
Sesshoumaru blinked, slowly.
“Our mating, of course.”
Kagome’s mouth fell open. No words came out.
She was pretty sure that hell had just frozen over.
Unless…! Maybe?
She pinched herself and hissed in pain.
Nope, still in the middle of this absurd conversation.
She probably should say something.
Ask Sesshoumaru if he had completely lost his damn mind, maybe.
Be firm.
“M-mating?” Kagome squeaked.
Way uncool, Kagome, she chided herself.
Her mind was furiously trying backtrack. Trying to find a previous save point from a time when the world had still made sense.
“Yes,” Sesshoumaru said, unhelpfully, plunging Kagome further into chaos.
“So what you mean by challenging is…?” Kagome asked, in a vain attempt to recover some sanity.
“A typical behaviour of a suitor. How do you know if the object of your interest is truly worthy of your affections if you do not challenge them to prove themselves to you?” Sesshoumaru said, finally sounding unsure of himself
Oh.
The light bulb finally clicked on.
Oh no.
Was Sesshoumaru telling her… That basically the entire time they had known one another… he had thought she’d been flirting with him?
Kagome stared at him in mute horror.
He’d been bringing her orphan children in some convoluted and misguided effort to flirt back?!
Oh god.
“I sense some reluctance from you.” Sesshoumaru frowned.
No shit!
Kagome tried to gather her brain from the floor and scramble it for some sort of sensible words she might offer to Sesshoumaru, but before she could find any, he continued.
“Perhaps I have not proven myself to you yet? Do you wish to issue one last challenge?”
“I… Umm…” were all that Kagome’s poor brain had left to offer.
Sesshoumaru nodded gravely. “Very well. I accept.”
With three quick steps, Sesshoumaru had closed their distance.
All of a sudden, Kagome had to crane her neck in order to meet his eyes.
There was a look there, glimmering in those golden depths, that unnerved her more than this entire disaster of an encounter had.
As he leaned forward, Kagome’s eyes widened, her heart jumped, her stomach plummeted, her breath caught.
And then he was kissing her and… wow.
Wow.
Okay, maybe this crazy notion of his did have some merit if this was what he had to offer.
His hand had come up to cradle her head. His fingers tangled in her hair, his claws lightly scraped against her scalp.
Whoo, talk about toe-curling.
One eternity later, Sesshoumaru pulled away.
Kagome drew in a quivering breath, her heart beating a mad, giddy rhythm.
Had he proven himself?
You bet.
Still dazed, she looked into his eyes, the slow beginning of a smile blooming on her lips.
And then Sesshoumaru spoke.
“Are you aware that someone appears to have vomited milk in your hair?”
Ahh, yes.
That.
That they would probably still need to work on.
“Yes, I am,” Kagome retorted. “That tends to happen around babies.”
“Noted,” Sesshoumaru replied, deadpan. “So, have I proven myself sufficiently?”
Kagome bit her lip and took a moment to consider.
“You have proven yourself,” she said slowly. “But I am not ready yet to make our mating official. I think it would be fair if we tried some human courting, first.”
Sesshoumaru tilted his head.
“I suppose that your customs should require equal opportunity,” he admitted, his voice considering. “I must confess, however, that I am woefully ignorant of the ways of human courting practices.”
Kagome gave him a rueful smile.
Just as ignorant as she’d been about youkai flirting, she’d bet. But still, going forward, it would be best to avoid any further confusion and miscommunication.
“Don’t worry,” Kagome told him, reaching to take his hand in hers. “I’ll tell you all about it.”

V3 Boys Doing Kabedon On S/O
“Hello, welcome there ! Can i request danganronpa v3 boys doing kabedon on their S/O please ? >.< Merci ~ “
I haven’t even thought about kabedon in ages! This is such a cute idea, I’m in love! Story under the tag~
P.S: In case you don’t know what kabedon is, here is a definition: ‘Kabedon is a very popular means of expressing romantic love or adoration. It is done by a man hitting his hand on a wall, pinning the woman in the process.’
Shuichi Saihara
We all know Shuichi is shy when it comes to romance
He would glow red just as you holding his hand in public
Which is why you two would only cuddle in private, as he was worried about being teased
But today he was stressed
He had spent a week straight trying to find the mastermind, with nothing to show for it
That also meant a week of not seeing you as much as he liked, and he was craving from attention
He walked into your dorm without asking, knowing that you were there, probably sitting at a desk reading or drawing
“Shuichi!” You stood up from your desk, walking towards him. “What are you doing here?”
As you approached your boyfriend you saw the serious expression on his face, causing you to slow down
“Shuichi, are you okay? Have you been sleepi-”
You were forcefully cut off by Shuichi taking a sudden step forward, lightly grabbing your shoulder and pushing you against the wall, slamming his hand into the wall near your head in the process
Looking up at Shuichi, your face reddened at the serious look he had painted on
His eyes were unreadable, only observing you
He collapsed into you, your back thudding lightly against the wall
“Shuichi...?”
You felt his arms wrap around your waist, tightening when he sensed that you were balanced
“I’m sorry Y/n, I really wanted to see you, but I am just so exhausted...”
Relaxing, you returned his hug, smiling softly into his chest
“It’s alright Shuichi, I just wish you hadn’t worked yourself so hard.”
Lightly pushing him back, you led the sluggish boy to the bed, laying him down before getting in yourself
Pulling the covered over the two of you, you silently giggled as Shuichi nuzzled into you, making you into a makeshift teddy bear
“Goodnight love.”
Kaito Momota
It had only been a week since you had gotten stuck in this killing game with all these other students, everyone was just starting to settle in to this new life
People were starting to find the people they could be friends with, while you were stuck with a die-hard crush
The ultimate astronaut, who had already been yelled at multiple times for getting in too many people’s personal spaces, had somehow swooped in and stolen your heart despite only speaking to you a handful of times
And he only really spoke to you if he needed a favor or to hide from someone, so you started to deny his requests, turning and walking away before he could see the faint red on your cheeks
You were walking through the main hall of the school when you were suddenly pushed into the wall, jumping at the thud of the handing hitting the wall next to your head
Looking up to see Kaito, you huffed and diverted your gaze, fiddling with the hem of your shirt as if to give your hands something to do
“What do you want, Kaito? I can’t hide you in my room anymore, Maki knows that’s where you go, and I’d like to not have a repeat of two days ago.”
“Aw, lighten up, Y/N! You know, it’s good to learn to always be on alert, so maybe having Maki break in was a good way to test you!”
“I needed a new door, Kaito.” You glared at him
“And I am sorry about that! But look, I’m here to ask something of you, this time with less fighting and more...talking!”
Talking?
“Spit it out, please.”
Kaito sighed, using his free hand to rub his neck
“Okay. Y/n, I know I am really not in the position to ask this, but, would you maybe wanna have a picnic sometime?”
As the words sunk in, your eyes widened, looking at the boy standing over you. A date? Date?!
Struggling to contain your excitement, you flashed a small smile before pushing his hand down, letting your linger on it just a second longer
“Sure, that sounds nice.”
Ryoma Hoshi
I am so sorry I can’t think of anything but Ryoma trying to do it and only reaching your legs I’m sorry if you really wanted Ryoma but I can’t stop laughing-
Rantaro Amami
You and Rantaro had been close since this whole thing started, you even saving him from Kaede’s trap to kill the mastermind
She apologized profusely of course
Today had been one of those days where there was nothing to do, no motives, no threats, just hanging out
You and Rantaro had been hanging out in the dining hall, eating a late lunch and generally just being bored
Searching for any form of entertainment, you noticed the bottle of soda Rantaro was drinking from and got an idea
Swiping it from his hand, you skipped away from the table
“Y/n, can I have that back?”
“Nope! You’ll hafta come get it!”
This resulted in the two of you fast-jogging around the dining room, him trying to retrieve his stolen drink
Well, you were sprinting, this boy has really long legs
After a couple laps around the room you began to get exhausted, and resorted to just huddling into a corner, back facing your boyfriend
You felt him approach your back, and stifled a giggle
“Y/n, can I have my drink back?” He was panting, as the run had also taken some effort on his part
You shook your head no, pulling the bottle closer to your stomach, away from his reach
He continued to ask, nudging your shoulder or placing a hand on your head, only earning a small laugh or a no as a response
You were suddenly flipped around, a hand forcefully pulling on your shoulder, forcing you to face him, another on the wall next to you
You made eye contact as he leaned down, face inches from yours
“Y/n, you are adorable...”
The hand on the wall dropped down to your chin, holding it in place
Rantaro began to lean in, eyes closing slowly, and yours doing the same
As you anticipated the next blissful moments, a strong pull ripped the bottle from your relaxed hand, your boyfriend suddenly backing off
He gave you a lopsided smirk before walking out of the dining hall, taking a small sip of his drink as if to show victory
“H-hey! This isn’t fair, you owe me a kiss!”
Gonta Gokuhara
Gonta is many things
He’s sweet, funny, smart, and gentle
But he doesn’t really know what personal space is, especially when he’s excited
You two had spent nearly the whole day in his lab, you letting him gush about his bugs and the ones he found particularly pretty
“Any that remind me of Y/n are the best!”
Gonta had been flipping through multiple books trying to find a picture of the butterfly that reminded him of you the most, and it was taking quite some time
You took this time to look at the butterflies pinned to the wall more closely, taking in each spot and groove on the wings.
“Y/n! I found it!”
You jumped at the sudden boom of voice, turning around just in time to be pushed against the wall, book in your face
“See! This one is amazing, pretty! Like you! Gonta apologize for how long it took to find...” He lowered the book, making you suddenly notice how close you two were to each other
Gonta seemed to notice too, as his cheeks turned red and he backed up slightly
“S-sorry! Gonta didn’t mean to hurt Y/n!”
You gave a breathy laugh, jumping up to give him a quick peck on the cheek
“It’s perfectly, fine, Gonta. I love you.”
Kokichi Oma
Let’s face it, Kokichi will pin anyone to anything if it gets a reaction out of them
He mostly does it to you, your blushy reaction always making him tease you even harder
So it wasn’t a huge surprise when he came rushing up behind you whilst on your way to the library
You let out a grunt as you were slammed into the wall, head hurting just a bit
“Y/n~! How’s my favorite little ultimate doing?”
Despite your desire to laugh in his face, you felt your face heating up, and only growing hotter as he leaned in closer
“Aw...whats the matter? Are you sick? Or are you deeply in love with someone?! Oh, let it be me, please!”
He leaned in further, noses touching. “Boop!”
Snapping out of it, you shoved him off, Kokichi casually pretending to be wounded like he always does, falling to the floor
“You’re no fun, Y/n!” His voice grew to a whisper as he clung to your leg. “What if I died?”
You shake your head and remove your leg from his grasp, walking away quickly
This boy will be the death of you, you swear.
Korekiyo Shinguji
...What was happening?
You had been walking to the dorms, planning on getting a nap in before lunch when all of a sudden, you were pinned to the dormitory wall, a tall man looming over you
To say you weren’t friends with Korekiyo was an understatement
No one was
He was just...there. Being him. He didn’t talk to anyone or try to interact. He liked to stare.
And here the boy was, arm next to your head and breathing down at you, breath blocked by the mask he always wore
“Can I help...you?”
Korekiyo seemed to snap out of a trance, eyes that were blankly staring at you now looking into your eyes with some actual living emotion
“Yes. I, uh, would like to ask for your assistance, with something in my ultimate lab...”
You felt your ears heat up, surprised at the way his voice sounded
It sounded really nice.
“I-uh, yeah...yeah! Of course I can help!”
He audibly let out a sigh, eyes averting from you. Was that a blush you see?
“Perfect. I see you’re doing something now, so I’ll request your presence after dinner. Goodbye.” He walked off quickly, sliding back into the school
Did you just...make friends with the unfriend-able?
Kiibo
You and Kiibo had been close since you guys met during the first days of the killing game
Who cares if he was a robot? You loved him and he didn’t know exactly what he was feeling so he guessed it was love!
You knew he was insecure about how little he knew about showing affection, so you were humored when he would confess he learned whatever romantic gesture he just did from another classmate
You didn’t care, it was sweet!
However, when he pinned you to the wall of the gym, you were startled
Mostly at the fact that he did it so forcefully his hand went into the wall, becoming stuck
“M-my apologies, Y/n! Kokichi told me to do it as hard as I can, so...”
The next few hours minutes were spent trying to pry him from the wall, Monokuma finally getting an exisal to dig him out when he had gotten bored of laughing at Kiibo
Kokichi, however, found it incredibly amusing, crying from laughter the second he saw what had happened, not letting him live it down for the next week
“I really gottta hand it to you, Kiibo! You know how to make someone swoon!”

Bittersweet.
Kokichi led me to a purple car that was among many other cars. They were all different sizes, shapes, and colors, they were all parked along side the road, and it was spanning all the way down it; but his was at the perfect spot with an even more perfect angle. Moonlight was softly grazing it, like a gentle kiss between two lovers. Soon, he let go of my sleeve and stood in front of it proudly. His chest was puffed out with his hands on his hips. He was standing like one of those superheroes, but his face looked like a 5 year old who was really proud of a drawing they made instead of a charismatic grin.
“Drumroll please!” he slouched and pretended to play the drums. “Dundundundundun...!” Kokichi then quickly spread his arms (which were gesturing at the car) and proudly declared, “Now... we're welcoming...theeeeeeee KOKICHI-MOBILE!”
I accidentally giggled, which made me blush and sputter out a small ‘sorry’. “It’s a pretty nice car,” I said while walking over to him.
“Of course it is, *I* made it!” Kokichi dug into his pocket and pulled out some keys, which I'm assuming was for his car. He unlocked it and then boasted, “And I decorated the interior. I know, it's just *so* great! Yeah, cry, it's okay. I know it's the best car interior you've ever seen. I don't blame you!”
We both knew the first part was a lie, but we didn't acknowledge that verbally. “Yeah,” was all I responded with before asking, “Have you been drinking? You seem sober but...”
“Psh, drinking’s for losers!” he stuck his nose up in the air in mock disgust. “I, on the other hand, am a Chad, and I am definitely sober. Watching all those drunk 16 to 18 year olds is like being at a comedy show thay gets really annoying as it drags on.”
“Then why’d you stay?”
“Why did *you* stay, Shuichi?” he put his hands on his hips and turned to face me. “I know sure as hell you're not drunk. Were you just there for shits n’ giggles? Wow, never expected that from *you*. I'm disappointed...”
...I should've expected that kind of answer. “You have a point,” I looked away, combing my hair with my fingers. “I came because Kaede asked me to.”
Kokichi nodded and hummed in response while he opened the door to the driver's seat. He sat in the previously mentioned seat, before looking at me dead in the eyes. “You look like a sad loner who’s severely depressed and has no social life. Get in!” he widened his eyes and gestured to the passenger's seat. I said nothing and did what I was told. Once I was in, I buckled my seat belt and sat back. When Kokichi said that the interior of his car was great, he wasn't lying. The seats were covered with a beautiful, beautiful and soft purple blanket; which was quite comfortable actually. There was a chain of di hanging from the thing connected to the rearview mirror (I can't really recall what it is called at the moment). They were all different sizes and had an assortment of colors. White, purple, gold, pretty much that palette. There were also othet decorations, but there were so many that I can't possibly name all of them! Well, he also had a bobble head of a lady. She had dark brown hair that was styled in a sort of half-up-half-down style. The front part of her hair was divided into two tight buns (which were held together with...spiky hair ties?) and the back was straight down. She had on ruby red lipstick and a green dress which were ruffled at the ends. It only went to about her mid-thigh. The lady also had these black boots/heels on. I focused on how her head bobbled after Kokichi started the car then started driving. The microphone in her left hand looked so small, probably the size of my fingernail — wait, why am I focusing on this? It's so minuscule, it has little to no importance to me, really.
“So, Shuichi-mooichi . . . where do you wanna go? I'm thinking we could do a shopping haul at 7-Eleven~! Like, like one of those YouTubers that do, uh, shopping hauls!” Kokichi suddenly piped up as he ran a stop light. “Well, shit.”
“You just—”
“It never happened~!” he looked at me with a smug smirk on his face. “And I don't care what you think anyway! We're gonna go to 7-Eleven.”
“. . . Yeah.” I folded my hands neatly in my lap as I stared directly at the rearview mirror. “Shuichi-mooichi, huh?”
“That’s your new nickname! Nishishi~!” Kokichi pressed his fingertips to his mouth when he laughed, still leaving one hand on the steering wheel.
“Hm,” I replied. I don't really know what to think of that. “I’m assuming you're going to try to stuff me full with junk food, right?”
“Oh-ho-ho! I think you've underestimated me, Shuichi-mooichi Saihara! I *will* stuff you full with sweets and Panta, and you will absolutely love it! MwahahahahAHAHA!” His evil laugh sounded oddly . . . evil.
“Ha!” I decided to play along. I rolled my eyes and looked out the window. “Sure, I'll let you think that.”
Kokichi let out an exaggerated gasp. “Okay, Shuichi. I see you.” He sassily moved his body and focused his eyes on the road more. “What a —What a snake you are . . .”
“Sssss~”
“Okayyyyyy, you can stop now,” he rolled his eyes.
I snorted, which is really odd because I've never really done that a lot in my past 17 years of living. “Alright,” I responded. I've begun to notice that the roads are really empty — most likely because it's 1:13 AM and everybody is either asleep, in their house, or at work doing a nightshift. It was kind of nice, but also kind of scary, but everyone says I've been “sheltered” my whole childhood and I can admit, they might be right. Might.
“Okay, Google Maps, why is 7-Eleven like, ten minutes away. We've been driving for five minutes!” Kokichi whined. He pouted and said to me, “This is dumb, just like Kaito!”
“Added insult to injury,” I commented. “Kaito wouldn't like that.”
“That’s why I said it, obviously! He's actually too dense to really realize he is~” he drawled out while tapping his fingertips on the steering wheel. Suddenly, he sighed and frowned. “I wanna speed, so buckle up, Shuichi-mooichi! Nishishi~!”
Suddenly, Kokichi had a wide grin and forcefully pushed on the gas pedal and went over double the speed limit — and it was intense. The trees and houses lining the road turned into a blur and everything was going so, so fast.
“K-Kokichi!” I exclaimed, holding on to the roof handle with all my might. “What — Why are you going so fast?!”
“Uh, isn't it obvious?” he replied, mocking the feeling of being annoyed. “We were going too slow.”
Did . . . Did he really just say that? “But at this rate, you're going to — we're going to die or something related to that! a-aND WHY ARE YOU GOING EVEN FASTER?!”
I was legitimately feeling my life flashing before my eyes, and he was just *laughing*. He was laughing like it was the funniest joke he had ever heard in two decades (and he wasn't even alive for two decades!). “Ahahaha! Shuichi, Shuichi! Isn't this fun?!” He was smiling with genuine excitement and happiness, and I was just this (👌🏼) close to hyperventilating.
“KOKICHI OMA THIS IS NOT FUN AND I SWEAR—”
“Take a right turn in 300 feet and your destination will be on the left,” an automated voice said over my desperate pleas.
“Alright!” Kokichi immediately took a *sharp* turn that almost knocked the wind out of me along with all my organs, but that's an exaggeration for how I felt when it happened. My heart was beating at *least* 2238384747 beats per second (also an exaggeration). Not too long afterwards, we stopped at a sudden halt at a 7-Eleven parking lot. The sudden stop made my whole body move forward with such vigor that I didn't know it happened at first. My back hit the seat hard while I tried to catch my whole life that just flew past me in those moments.
“Wow . . . You really look like you've just witnessed a murder,” Kokichi said in awe. I noticed he didn't have his seat belt on, and that he was also almost unnervingly close to my face. “Anyway, come on, we have a convenience store to rob!” He lightly pecked my cheek and grabbed his wallet from the cup holder.
I only nodded. I wish he would've kissed my cheek longer — and I shouldn't be thinking that way — I sighed. It's bittersweet, really. I liked, no, I loved the affection he gave me; but I know I shouldn't want it. It's really conflicting, actually. I looked at him with tired and exasperated eyes. “Let me just . . . catch my life for a second before we enter.”
I see Kokichi nod and lay his head on my arm. He's suddenly really affectionate. I hate this, it saddens me. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy but also a depressed goo of emo all in one. I just try to focus on the better part, me feeling good and Kokichi actually showing me affection. “Very affectionate, I see.”
“Well, I mean, I'm just That Person™️,” Kokichi closed his eyes and relaxed even more.
“You are,” I said.
We sat there for what felt like a lifetime, just sitting in comfortable silence, feeling each other's presence emanating calming auras.

if its alright i’d like to ask for a kin matchup. for the sources how about dr/fangans, yttd, or any other character you see me as. I’d prefer the two sources I mentioned though. to get started I was told by a couple friends i can be really sweet and optimistic however I can get defensive and sarcastic too when I feel stressed or pressured. I tend to forget important things sometimes. I also use exclamation points a lot because Im pretty optimistic (as said before) (1/2 i dont have enough space)
(2/2) I can get upset sometimes though and I tend to have a hard time finding the good in situations after that, some hobbies of mine are relatively basic I enioy drawing and baking. my favorite foods are usually sweet things or cheesy. I also play games quite a bit!!! thank you very much mod tsu I appreciate it!
this was really fun, anon! thank you very much for requesting! i hope you enjoy,, and please note that this one might be a bit short- i’ve been a little low on energy lately ^^; so i’m sorry about that!
from danganronpa, i match you with...
komaru naegi!
okay i KNOW that komaru’s been in like the last 9,000 matchups, but hear me out. first, i think that you and komaru both have your moments of being really sweet. i mean, do i really need to expand on this- we all saw how her and toko’s friendship developed in udg. however, on the flipside, she’s not someone that takes insults lying down, which is where the defensiveness and sarcasm come in- though it’s more the former than the latter. i think that a lot of what she remembers can fade from her, though of course things she holds dear to her, like her family and manga, tend to stick with her! she is pretty optimistic most of the time, and i think that she does try to be encouraging, tying in with you and your use of exclamation points.
once again going back to her relationship with toko, whenever things get tougher, specifically after their fight, i think komaru does start getting more passive and negative. in general, just having as many remarks as she used to have, and not being able to be her usual optimistic self. this is totally fine, don’t get me wrong! but she can have less of a will at times. plus, she also probably enjoys drawing as she wants to be a manga artist someday, something quick you have in common. the two of you can also consider yourself a little basic or boring in some aspects! we don’t really get to go into her interests beyond manga, but the only real difference i see between you two is that her preference in food is... very different to yours, haha. moving on!
from the danganronpa another series, i match you with...
yuki maeda!
haha... i feel really bad that he’s been here a lot lately, too. but! i think that the both of you are fairly similar! he can definitely be sweet and optimistic, and tries his best to get along with others- however, whenever he’s more startled he can lose his manners or get more defensive. plus, it’s spoilers, but the latter happens a lot more... in late game. once again spoilers, but yuki has forgotten plenty a thing. he is very energetic, and while we don’t see him text, that could definitely translate into using exclamation points and whatnot- he seems like the type to really express his personality over text! in general, i think your vibe is also pretty similar to his- though he seems a little more jumpy than you, i’m also not very familiar with the fangans or their characters.
yuki does have something of a low self esteem, though, and can get more negative and down after something bad like oh, you know, a murder, happens. like komaru, you and yuki both consider yourselves(more specifically, your hobbies) rather ordinary, due to his “lackluster” talent. while we don’t really get to explore yuki’s interests, i wouldn’t be surprised if he likes sweets(he seems like the type) and if he likes Vidya GamesTM!!
and lastly, from your turn to die, i match you with...
kugie kizuchi!
i’m gonna be honest, a lot of this one is based on my interpretation of kugie- despite her being so important ingame, we have a surprising lack of actual development for her- however, we do have some stories/info from kanna!! so i’ll do my best! but, a more superficial one, i don’t know what it is but her design has the same vibes as you, anon. like, she looks like how i imagine you. from what kanna says, kugie can definitely be sweet and optimistic at times, but rougher around the edges as well- specifically on the more defensive side of things. we don’t know much about her memory, but i think that she can be very optimistic despite not being very expressive about it- so !!’s are a good way of doing that for her!
kugie is definitely the type to be more downtrodden and quick to anger after something bad happens- for a bit, kanna was that bad thing, as she tells us ingame. plus, while i’m not too sure of your actual average-ness, kugie does honestly seem like the type to bake every once in a while, especially for holidays! as well as being a GamerTM, i could see her playing something together with kanna once they start getting closer.
-
it’s minor matchups time! from danganronpa, you also remind me of kaede akamatsu, as well as a bit of makoto naegi! from dra+2, you also remind me of sora, and a bit of akane taira! from yttd, you remind me a bit of sara chidouin, and pregame shin tsukimi!
that’s all of em! thanks so much for requesting and reading, i hope this was good! please remember that you know yourself best, and if you’d like any information added or changed, please just let me know! i’m more than happy to update this for you, anon!
-mod tsu

IDOLISH7′s ninth ichikuji, Ayakashi Kaleidoscope.
This is my first time translate such a long script like this. To be honest I have zero confident on my skill but, better try than regret it later. I love this event too much that I can’t help myself.
English is not my main language so please feel free to tell me if you find any miss in my grammar. And it’s more that welcome for you to give your critics. Well, happy reading~
(DM me if you want the Indonesian version)
Event Part 1
[???]
‘what a small hands. Momiji, look.’
It was a nostalgic voice, that I heard somewhere long in the past. Just like being woken up by a sight of vivid crimson, and let it continuously smoldering inside my chest. Since that day, I feel like searching for something. Something I have lost, something precious. What is it that I lost, whose voice is it, was everything just a childish dream from my younger self. While still, doesn’t remember a thing…
[Katanashu’s headquarter. In front of the reception office.]
??? (Sogo) : Hey, paper doll.
Shikigami : ----
???(Sogo) : For someone who come early, this is quite a funny way to do greetings, huh. Does attacking all of sudden then push down human into bedridden is some kind of Shikigami’s hospitality? And, why are you stand on my belly? Get down from there, right now. Laying in the hallway and watching the ceiling is not my hobby at all.
Shikigami :-----
???(Sogo) : Oi, Are you hear me? Who is the person in charge here? I have waited long enough, but there is no one come to get me.
Shikigami -----
???(Sogo) : …. No reply….. could it be, it can’t understand my word? I think it can’t be helped then.
*-----sound of opening door*
???(Yamato) : Oh my, What are you doing laying here in the middle of hallway? Were you playing with the Shikigami? What’s more, with that look like you will draw you sword at any moment despite having such beautiful face, what dangerous combination.
???(Sogo) : A person...? Where did he….
???(Yamato) : I entered just now. From that big gate near the hallway. Did you too absorbed into your game with the Shikigami that make you lost your surrounding?
???(Sogo) : This situation is unavoiable. Because nobody seemed to come for me no matter how long I’m waiting at the reception office.
???(Yamato) : Hmm…And then, you want to search for someone and go to the hallway but ended up in this kind of situation, huh. Do not miss any suspicious person who roaming at the office, as expected of our excellent Shikigami!
???(Sogo) : Suspicious person…? I properly carry on my duty, from imperial capital…
???(Yamato) : Hm… It just getting more fishy. You suspicious people always say the same thing.
???(Sogo) :………From the uniform and sword that attached on my waist, you can tell that I’m part of Katanashu’s group too. I don’t want to say this on our first meeting but please stop smirking when you looking at me. It’s unpleasant.
???(Yamato) : Ahah, what a scary face. Relax for a bit, will ya? Even though you are now laying upside down just like a frog that was about to dissected, quite a bossy fellow, aren’t you. I’m sorry ‘kay. Looking down at someone’s face from above was lot of fun that I cannot help myself.
???(Sogo) : You are not very popular, don’t you?
???(Yamato) : To suddenly put it like that, you are really not cute.
???(Sogo) : It’s enough. More than this will just waste of time. I will deal with this myself.
*---Klak* (door open)
???(Nagi) : Aaaa… Wait a minute! Stop! Stop!
???(Sogo) : There is another one….
???(Nagi) : ---Captain Kasane, stop teasing him, would you please dispel the shikigami now?
Kasane ; Oh, Madoka, you came?
Madoka : I was behind you this entire time. So troublesom-…I mean, as a subordinate, at least I refrained from saying that it would be a good idea. Anyway, he is the new member who had just arrived today, isn’t he? There were talks about him will come to our second corps, right. Look at his uniform.
Kasane : Aa-… right, right, there were talks like that, I’m completely forgot.
Madoka : even though you were the one who told me about it yesterday.
Kasane : Sorry, I just cannot remember something I don’t care with.
???(Sogo) : The second corps captain? That’s mean this man is my superior….
Kasane : --Oi.
???(Sogo) : …! The Shikigami….
Kasane : I have dispelled the shikigami, with this you can move again, right? So hurry, get up from there. Or do you want to say you need a hand to help you up now?
???(Sogo) : …….. No need. I can stand up myself. Sorry for showed you this unpleasant sight.
Madoka : Uwaa… even though a while ago he was pressed under the shikigami and turned upside down, he stand up like it was nothing.
???(Sogo) : I’m really sorry for my insolent behavior earlier. You are the second corps captain, right? Here, my enlistment letter.
Kasane : Oh, thanks. Till your way to bow is so polite, showing such respectful attitude is more than enough.
Madoka : Uwaa… he look like a serious-type.
???(Sogo) : I the one who will assignment here from today. Katanashu’s second corps affiliation, Momiji.
Kasane : Ng? Momiji? So your name that written on the enlistment letter here is not read as ‘Kaede’ but ‘Momiji’ instead? Isn’t the way to read it a bit off?
Momiji : I wish for it myself. Because I heard when you assigned as a swordsman, you will work under a given name.
Madoka : Beside being a serious-type, you are also a weird one……usually, the upper ups will decided for the member’s name by taking one character from their real name. Because there may be a chance for youkai* to steal your mana* if you keep your real name. It also said if you got your name stolen, your enemy can take control on you.
Momiji ; Actually, it is still took after my name. I just change the way it read.
Kasane ; Hmmn… you have some nice hobby there.
Momiji : …..
Kasane : Well, nevermind. I’m Kasane. The second corps captain. I’m the boss of myself. The man with pointed nose over there is Madoka. He is our most reliable man, the shining ace. Your rank both are the same, so please get along.
Madoka : ….Thank you.
Momiji : Nice to meet you.
Kasane : Well, then. Since we finished greeting each other, it is okay for me go now, right? I will leave the task to guide the newcomer in your hand okay, ace.
Madoka : …huh?! But my duty hours will end this afternoon…
Kasane : That is a good news! That’s mean you still have some time.
Madoka : No, no, no, I really just have a little…
Kasane ; Okay, I’m counting on you Madoka~ Everything include our facilities, mission, till the meaning of become a swordsman, make sure to give him all the lecture perfectly ‘kay~
Madoka : Wa-…, captain!
Kasane ; Aa…,so busy, so busy~
*krieekkk.....blam*
Madoka ; He really gone…I’m sure it’s just an excuses….he always push all the job on me. Moreover, you, please read the mood. Momiji, right? Why you have to come before me off duty.
Momiji ; Isn’t it you own fault? If you guide me right after my arrival, it must be all over now.
Madoka : Uh.. about that… as a newcomer, to talk back at your senior like this, aren’t you being impudent?
Momiji : Even if you are the senior, we have the same rank.
Madoka ; Uwa… you are really not cute. But you really must have that kind boldness to be able to speak like that, either way you can’t do it with the fellow swordsman. *sigh*…. It’s troublesome but, since this is a superior’s order then is nothing I can do about it. I will guide you now so follow me.
Momiji ; okay…
Madoka ; We will start from the imperial capital. Since you are send to this neighborhood as a swordsman, I think you already understand about it but, as you see this place is no longer a human’s world.
Momiji : …hmm.
Madoka ; Actually, the existence of human’s world and youkai’s world are like a bunch of mirrors that overlap one to another. To put it simply, you can say this quarter as their ‘entrance’. And, to management all the youkai living here, is the mission that has entrusted to us, the swordsman. Behind this gate is what we called Katanashu’s inner citadel. Then, I will start from the explanation of our facilities here.
Momiji : Behind this….
*krieekkk....**sfx :opening door*
Madoka ; Welcome, newcomer-kun. To the place where no human lives, to the city of light and shadow—
***Naration
In the past, in place that was governed by samurais, there were they that performed a mysterious power. There was he whose body covered in flame, there was one that destroy a village in shape of wind, or a god who swallow a mountain like hand of water. Beast, monster--- again those are named as youkai. They are feared, despised, respected, used, and worshiped by humans. However, together with those who leave the land of samurai, they choose to hide themselves in land of immortal on the other side of mirror, as they entrusted the ‘Gate of Daimon’ to connect with people between two world.
And now, as the time passed, it will be told in the present days, about a story that may have existed, the story from Hinomoto’s land.

Transltor’s note :
-I use Katanashu (刀衆)to refer their group's name as I don't know anymore how I should call them :’) but I decide to keep them refer theirself as ‘swordsman’ so please forgive me for the confusing word. :’’
*Youkai : Japanese, mythology ghost and monster.
*Mana : Human’s life force, youkai’s source of power

V3 Talentswap Characters!
Uhm- Hi? I really don't know how to start this, but I'm just gonna say this. I made a V3 Talentswap killing game? With a bit of major differences. Like who survives, where the game takes place, and even some character personalities! ^~^ So I just wanted to share some information on this! Perhaps before I make a fan-fiction on it! (I'm not even sure if I might make it...) But well- here!
~~~
Kaede- SHSL Robot: Kaede is our happy go lucky robot who tries her best to be helpful! Even if she's not human, she has some small understanding of human feeling. Overall she's positive, and a happy camper!
Shuichi- SHSL Supreme Leader: Ah yes... Our protagonist! (Sorry Kaede :( ) He's mostly quiet and self reserved. HOWEVER- he can be a total asshole like the normal Kokichi. Deceiving people with lies, and maybe having SOME fun here and there. Deep deep down- he's actually very relatable, and your normal average Shuichi!~
Rantaro- SHSL Inventor: He's actually very very chill! At times though he will make some inappropriate innuendos. In hopes that SOME people will understand them.
Kaito- SHSL 'Care Giver' (Assassin): Your generic Rip-Off Gerard Way, or JD. So a big fat emo with a hostile backbite towards everyone. Once you get to know him (which requires lots of trust and coaxing), he's quite a charmer with a smug, and vengeful attitude. (PS- He and Shuichi banter a lot-) (PPS- Kaito low key likes musicals-)
Kokichi- SHSL Entomologist: The purest of pure beans. Kinda like Gonta, he's very sweet, and innocent. ...Or so it seems.
Maki- SHSL Maid: She's extremely loyal, and a basic Mom™! Maki can be a bit scary at times when she's in Mom mode. If her 'children' are causing trouble. The same goes for when she is around her troubling friends. (Aka- Shuichi)
Ryoma- SHSL Astronaut: Ryoma is still Ryoma, but he actually didn't go to prison. (You'll see why!) He's the biggest geek for space, and will do ANYTHING for it!
Kirumi- SHSL Tennis Pro: She's a gold-hearted, and self-deprived person. She went to prison for reasons unknown (she won't say), and she was pulled into the killing game halfway through her sentence. Back in prison, she has a lovely prison wife/friend that Kirumi misses oh so much.
Angie- SHSL ???: Angie is also kinda still Angie in a way. But she is clueless of her talent, and sometimes asks Atua for guidance as to what it even is. She's not much of a crazy religious person. She's surprisingly chill and open to it, and will share her religious practices to those who are interested. (Her hometown also practices this religion.)
Tenko- SHSL Artist: Tenko is still Tenko! But more on the creative side! She still has a burning hatred for 'degenerate males', and will ABSOLUTELY not draw them whatsoever. Even if she does, she'll just throw paint over it. She protecc all the girls. uwu👌
Himiko- SHSL Aikido Master: She's also chill, but also a bit stubborn. She'll get aggressive when she feels threatened, and has a bit of trust issues with others. (She learned Aikido to keep the bullies away.)
Korekiyo- SHSL Detective: So thankfully he doesn't like his sister- Whew. Instead, he works alongside her in his detective agency! Kork is a bit more on the anti-social side, and focused more on life itself, as well as justice to those who were murdered! He can easily get flustered though. (It's a little hard to outwit him.)
Miu- SHSL Cosplayer: Miu is more normal, with a side of lewdness. Usually when she cosplays, her outfits are...interesting. But all the people in Cons love the gold and glorious cosplayer's outfits! Some even ask for requests or commissions! So overall Miu is less lewd, but more bold of her creations. (In this case her cosplays.)
Gonta- SHSL Pianist: Gonta is mostly the same, but more gentlemanly! He's able to speak in 1st person, but prefers 3rd person. His wealthy family accepts him for who he is, and just want him to be happy! Gonta also believes that everyone is perfect, and that those who've done wrong deserve a 2nd chance!
Tsumugi- SHSL Anthropologist: Creepiness level up to 100% Just- she looks creepy, and the murder monitor is off the CHARTS. Heck- there's also her lust for her brother, which uh...is a little WORSE.
Kiibo- SHSL Magician (Wizard): Kinda like Himiko, he talks arout his MP, and dresses up like and actual wizard! Most people don't believe him for being a wizard, but the children he performs for believe! In general- Kiibo is a child-like person, even though he can be rude at times. Saying that others around him are peasants, and low-leveled unlike him! He's a level 50 wizard!!!! >:(
That's all I really have so far! Well...I have chapters and mostly everything done- I just need to do a few more things. Perhaps designs as well. But uh- if you guys want you can draw them! Just um- Please notify me if you do! ^~^ Like I said- I have some designs done, and I can DM you them if you wanna draw them. If you want you can maybe help me design some? I Just need help with designs 😥 But anywho- I might post more stuff about this later in the future! =w=
who in the v3 class would Jaden like/dislike if he was part of their class/knew them/etc (twins aside for obvious reasons lol)
Let me make a list and then give you Jaden’s opinions on them one by one!
Shuichi Saihara: Jaden actually really likes Shuichi. He’s quiet and smart, not too overwhelming to be around. Jaden likes reading like Shuichi does, but I’m pretty sure his interests fall under high fantasy over anything like murder-mystery. He’s kind of like, that one friend you get along with but you don’t have much in common.
Kaede Akamatsu: Jaden finds Kaede to be really overwhelming at times. She can be loud and stubborn, and while he thinks she’s nice, spending more than a few hours with her might just be Too Much for him.
Angie Yonaga: Immediately is skeptical of Angie due to her being the Ultimate Artist and he is the Ultimate Digital Artist, but once she proves that she doesn’t find digital art to be a waste of talent or skill he can get along with her well... that is until he starts realizing she has a mask that’s tighter than Kokichi’s and then he gets uncomfortable with her. If she can prove to him that she doesn’t have malicious intentions, I see them being good art friends where he shows her his digital paintings and she shows him her traditional ones.
Gonta Gokuhara: Rough around the edges, but sweet and gentle, for the most part. Definitely more afraid of Gonta than he feels he should be, though. Maybe it’s because Gonta was raised by wild animals/wolves and Jaden’s accident involved a dog biting his throat.The more wild Gonta gets, the more Jaden wants to be as far away as possible. Otherwise, he can relate to Gonta a fair bit in certain regards, and when Gonta is calm finds him to be pleasant company.
Miu Iruma: “Her mouth is as vivid as my imagination, except dirtier.” He respects her intelligence but is easily flustered by her... openness... and probably scowls at her whenever she finds some sort of way to interpret his paintings and drawings as something perverted. Thinks she’s gorgeous and probably likes drawing her in more innocent paintings while still capturing her passion. Definitely finds her physically attractive, which is why he gets really flustered when she’s being dirty. Miu he is trying to be a polite boy and you’re putting lewd thoughts in his head, please stop--
K1-B0: He just wants to draw Keebo all the time in super sci-fi/fantasy paintings, but things get awkward when Keebo doesn’t like sci-fi. If Keebo asked him to, he’s draw him as a human. Jaden finds Keebo to be charming and kinda snickers at him when he’s clumsy with social interaction, but he finds how hard Keebo tries to be endearing.
Ryoma Hoshi: Kind of too depressing for Jaden to get along with. Not that he thinks Ryoma is a bad person by any means, but it’s hard to befriend someone so depressed. Gladly talks to him and would like to be friends, but if Ryoma’s still super depressed it’s super hard to talk to him
Rantaro Amami: “Oh no he’s hot--” aside from Rantaro being a huge pretty boy, Jaden probably doesn’t know much about him. Rantaro seems closed off to him, or too focused on something else to talk to much. Likes how relaxed he is though, and probably has drawn Rantaro on his boat in the ocean (and maybe once as a pirate)
Tenko Chabashira: Oh god too much too much too much. Everything about Tenko is way too much. He can barely hang out with her for an hour. She’s too overwhelming. He thinks her heart is in the right place, but also she’s got some serious foot-in-mouth syndrome and/ore needs to unlearn some of her problematic views.
Himiko Yumeno: He loves her magic shows and can and will draw her performing her magic. He lowkey relates to her sleepiness and also enjoys lazing about sometimes. Probably a closer friend than the others. Thinks she’s super cute. Yes if you haven’t realized by now, Jaden is a hopeless bisexual.
Kirumi Tojo: Stuck in between feeling like she’s too much like a mother or like an elder sister. He wants to know about her passions and hobbies, but she tends to prefer talking about her work. Finds that her loyalty and diligence is relatable, but it makes it hard for him to talk to her about anything.
Korekiyo Shinguji: He actually thinks Kiyo is interesting, and gets inspired by the folklore and tales Kiyo has to tell. He likes drawing about the stories he hears. Although Kiyo is kinda creepy and unsettling. Kiyo also seems to be more interested in teaching than making friends, which Jaden’s fine by. Defintiely shows Kiyo his paintings of the folklore he hears about.
Kaito Momota: “Brother, is that you?” Me and L joke a lot about how Glenn is “Fire Kaito” but there are quite a few similarities that Jaden picks up on, and immediately probably gets attached because of the familiarity. Probably the only “loud” person he can actually tolerate because of it. Wants to whack him witha newspaper when he says something kind of bigoted though. Unlearn your toxic views, heathen!
Maki Harukawa: She has a glare that is sharp enough to kill a man and Jaden wants none of that. Too intimidating to strike a conversation with, and he doesn’t think he could really figure out a topic to talk about if they did talk anyway. If she approaches him, he’ll chat with her, but otherwise he keeps his distance.
Tsumugi Shirogane: Wants Tsumugi to dress him up in costumes. He thinks she’s nice enough, and them being artists is something they can talk about. Likes to chat with her idly, but he is probably unsettled by her if she’s wearing up a mask like in the canon game. Jaden is perceptive with facial expressions, and can tell when something isn’t reaching someone’s eyes.
And finally, that brings me to Kokichi, even though you only wanted the other classmates but I just gotta talk a little about Jaden and Kokichi.
Kokichi Ouma: Jaden actually has a rocky, complicated relationship with Kokichi due to the aforementioned distrust for people who lie or wear masks. Jaden is a bit distrustful, so Kokichi unsettles him since he puts up that front. Though he still loves Kokichi like family, and seeing Kokichi’s true self/kindness helps him overcome this awkwardness and distrust.
Forte’s Fan Character Flashback Friday - #11
Name: Kaede Hatake Series: Naruto Background: So, this is probably the last Flashback Friday; turns out I'm kinda out of fan characters to really bring back - at least those that I really remember or have images of. But I will be ending this series off with a bang, I guess, cause today we're going to talk about one of my favorite fan characters who has way more development than a fan character really needs, but hey, I enjoy it and it's fun.
Anyway, I've posted stuff for this character before, but have a lot more I can share and have been kind of holding back for this post.
This is Kaede, my long-lived Naruto fan character. As cliche as it is, she supposed to Kakashi's adopted daughter, who of course, also happened to repress her memories of her actual family and birthplace and thanks to the Third Hokage's permission and whatnot, was able to just more or less seamlessly mesh into living in the Hidden Leaf village.
She was created right after I really got into the series, which was back around 2007, which correlates with one of the earlier images I have of her on my dA. You can see that one here, actually: https://www.deviantart.com/forte-girl7/art/Hatake-Kaede-69525304
Fun side note for that, I had done that image all on the free program GIMP and with a mouse and I'm still amazed at my younger self for having the patience to do all the things I used to do with just a mouse. I've been spoiled by my tablet, haha.
Anyway, one reason why I've been so attached to this character is because, like Rey a while ago, I used to RP with this character on a Naruto RP forum. However, this forum was much more active and the person who RPed as Kakashi was super into the idea and we really ran with the different scenarios we could put the two in. I'm actually still friends with that person and we talk about it from time to time and after the forum itself had gone under, still wrote fanfiction things together, just for funsies.
There's another reason why I got attached to the character and it's kind of a weird, personal, psychological reason, but could really be applied to a lot of my fan characters. As you may have noticed over the course of this series, a lot of my fan characters are either a character's daughter or younger sister. I never did the love interest thing; it wasn't and still isn't a thing that I was into. Not sure why, really, but not my thing.
The gravitation to having characters with older brothers or I suppose "idealized" father figures, however, I can totally explain. The brother thing is simple: I've always wanted an older brother, but as the eldest of the family, that was never going to be a thing. So, I guess I tried to find some kind of surrogate relationship with my fan characters. The same can be said with the father thing, too, but I do still have my dad around and while he isn't the worst dad, I guess he could have always been better. I don't want to paint my dad in a bad light, but he's always been a bit overbearing and had a lot of expectations for me that he pushed so much, I'm sure it didn't help with how my mental state's progressed through the years. Really, it's still a thing I deal with to this day and the more I think about it, the more I understand my younger self's need for "better" father figures to attach myself to.
Kaede was definitely one of those characters, and with someone like my old RP friend fanning the flames, it was hard not to get attached to a source of escapism that I really craved and needed at the time. That and having a set up like that and also have a friend who funnily enough cosplayed as Kakashi at one point saying "she should be canon", well, that's how you make a 14/15 year old's day, haha.
Anyway, I do have a lot of older art for this character (plus a lot of newer stuff), that I'll put next. I'll try and put them in chronological order, starting with some of the older stuff I have.
She's had a few different outfits over the years, though I do have a lot more stuff of her in more random outfits not really connected to her "actual" design. You can tell I was going through that "young weeaboo" phase looking at them, cause there are some of her as kitsune, some of her and Kakashi transformed into dogs, lots of them with bad fashion sense, and even here, she used to have a giant, paper fan as a weapon, cause "they have those in anime". And yes, I know, Temari has a giant fan, but her's is actually like.. a bamboo folding one, while the one here is obviously just a silly paper one that again, you would see in anime as a gag item.
Also, a few notes about some of her outfit inspirations: her earliest outfit looked way too much like Sasuke's, which I wanted to stray away from, but was hard considering I insisted on keeping her color palette the blue/tan mix.
One reason for wanting to stray from that is because of Kaede's odd stance when it comes to Sasuke. Personally, he's not my favorite, but Kaede herself is at odds with him, because of Kakashi's focus on training Sasuke in the earlier part of the series, mainly because of their mutual connection that is the Sharingan. Kaede has a slight inferiority complex when it comes to this relationship and is a major source for her lack of self confidence in her abilities.
Also, one of the later designs is an obvious rip-off of Kakashi's outfit from the Gaiden storyline (the bit where he actually gets his Sharingan). I liked elements from it, but again, would go on to tweak it so it wasn't just stealing from another character. Of course, if you look at the designs (and naming conventions) for a lot of the characters that are related... well, sometimes it seems like they didn't try much harder, hahaha.
And as another note, the reason why some of these images have the dA watermark on it was because I got these from my storage on there and they had those enabled. For the next few, which aren't in storage, I'll just link to the actual dA posts. These are still fairly old at this point, cause I haven't posted a lot of the newer stuff on there or anywhere yet, cause I've been... just going crazy on making new stuff and not posting it.
Those two are from 2009 and 2012, while the ones earlier were posted in 2007ish. Also, the age progression there is pretty similar to the current one, though in the most recent, her older outfit reflects the changes to the general Konoha shinobi found in Boruto.
Now, this is just all visual development for the character. When I say a lot, I mean, a lot, cause there's also a written development to go with this. Granted, a lot of it is more recent, but that's because of me being weird.
Some of the posts there on dA do have the startings of a character profile, but they always say "I'll post most later" or "I'm still working on her profile" or whatever and that never came to light. That's mainly because, as I've mentioned before, I'm oddly pick about how plausible my characters may be in the canon universe. Kaede is no exception and may be the one that really sparked how particular I am about it.
I've been meaning for the longest of times to actually write a fanfiction that more or less adds Kaede to the story, though through research/rethinking, I would now add events not directly connected to the manga/anime, which would be needed either way, cause it's not like I was gonna shove her in the background of every actual scene from Naruto's story. However, because Naruto was still ongoing when I got into the series, I decided to bide my time and wait until it ended and how things unfolded.
While now that it's ended, that means I can comb through everything and actually make sure everything's covered, but it was quite an thing to tough through, considering some of the things that happened in the later chapters of the manga. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone really, but the series is pretty old now at this point and into their next series anyway, and some of the stuff that they pull off and hope you accept in the end game of Naruto is a bit much and trust me, you do not want to get me started on THAT topic, hahaha.
Anyway, now I'll be sharing some of the stuff I've been working on the last bit of time to actually maybe see that long-form fanfiction come to fruition. Please note that a lot of them are still a work in progress, but they have come a long ways since those earlier profile/backstory promises. It turns out that sitting down and combing through stuff, even after the fact, is a lot of work and very time consuming, because again, there's a lot of baloney that Naruto really hopes you'd be fine with, when sometimes they themselves don't stay the most consistent, especially when it comes to their actual time line.
I'm trying really hard not to go on a rant here... so let's move on the links and I'll explain them one by one if needed.
Profile Here's Kaede's current overall profile. It includes the general things on a profile sheet, like name, appearance, personality, backstory, and the likes. This also covers the same parameters for Kaede through the year, because I want to be thorough cause I'm weird like that. I also have little skill charts that use the same ranking system found in the Naruto Character Guidebooks, because I guess I like to waste time, hahaha. The backstory part of this is also kind of serving as a rough draft/abridged version for certain story events I'd like to write out, so sorry if they read... weird.
Relationships This document goes into more detail of Kaede's relationships to other characters. Kakashi's isn't full filled out yet, though it should probably be one of the longest ones, but I've been focusing on other characters, mainly her extended family, that I've been adding to bolster her backstory. There are line breaks between certain groups of characters, and the order after Kakashi should be Kaede's actual parents, her extended family (mainly a lot of her mother's relatives), Kaede's teammate and sensei, Naruto and the others of Team 7/Kakashi, and then other characters from the show.
Supporting Profiles Now, because I'm making up a whole gang of extra characters for my silly little OC, that means they also need profiles for a bit more fleshing out of their own, so that's this document, cause I just don't know how to stop myself sometimes. These again follow an order in their appearance, going from her biological parents to extended family, then teammates, followed up by teammates/colleagues of her biological father.
Technique/Skill List Pretty self explanatory. There are technically two versions of this list, where the other is really just a list. This one is the spreadsheet that covers other parameters of the various techniques/skills/jutsu/whatever and where I keep other notes.
Timeline This one is pretty much the biggest pain the neck for me, because again, it's taking time to cross reference the canon timelines that sometimes muddle themselves up anyway and can be annoying, yet amusing to read. This timeline focuses mainly on characters directly involved with Kaede, such as her extended family/what have you, so it's not the same in-depth one that I've been using on the Naruto wiki. Again, I'm trying to put her into the story, but that doesn't mean she's present and/or relevant to everything, cause she wouldn't be, hahaha, though there are some events present that are only there as kind of reminders for what's taking place in the main storyline.
As seen in the supporting profiles doc, all the characters I've come up with have designs, too, or are in the process of getting them and I've posted sketches and finished versions of them on my Patreon, cause those are also still a work in progress. I want to say I'll post them when they're done, but with me, who knows when that'll be, so I'll just some of them here now:
Supporting Character Drawings
Anyway, I think I'm gonna wrap this one up, cause I've blabbed for long enough. I know not a lot was actually covered Kaede-wise here, but that's because a lot of it would just be repeats of the stuff covered in the way-too-many-documents-for-a-fan-character up there.
Also, like I said, this is probably the last Fan Character Flashback Friday, so I want to thank you all for taking this journey with me to the past to revisit some rather fond memories and fun designs.
