Hello! So I am very late to the “meeting” haha, you can dismiss this since it’s a bit out of the blue. But I wanted to ask if you ever shared your thoughts for the ending of MHA? I kind of fell off of it after seeing spoilers, but then looking back into it, I didn’t really get to see the op of some meta blogs I followed since they’ve posted a lot since then. That and when trying to search up “ending” or meta, there was just a lot of vague posts that did not help. Even then, it seems like everyone had a united agreement that know one liked it (don’t blame them either. Toga’s death sucks along with Shigaraki, it’s vague about Spinner and Compress being or not being in jail, and Dabi unknown, but hey that’s better than nothing. Like to think he and Shoto are able to eat soba together even if Dabi is or is not under house arrest) 😅 Did your friends Redphox, Transhawks, and Hamliet ever share their thoughts? Or other meta blogs you know? Or did everyone kind of just drop it…
Sorry for the late response. I've mostly disconnected for my sanity but I can answer.
All my friends did share their thoughts yes. You can probably search their blogs and find them. But also a lot of us just....dropped it.
The manga went so south so fast in such a shocking and unexpected way that there wasn't any time to process it. Truly a horrible experience that I don't ever want to deal with again lol. I sound dramatic but really, 4 years of my life being so emotionally attached to these characters and the dynamics and it all meaning nothing in the end. It really did hurt!
The re-readability is completely gone because of the ending. It's not even a mediocre "passable" ending, it's just....the kind of ending I pretend doesn't exist. I really do, except when I'm forced to remember it.
I think a lot of us shared our thoughts as we could and then just dropped it for our emotional health because we all were going through it pretty bad. And even still it's hard to even look at content for the series.
I think what hurts the most is the recent visuals used for the OP for the 7th season. Like...putting the kids with their villains, showing them happy, or the "what could have been", or just showing them TOGETHER, and for what? For nothing, and that sucks bad.
I'm trying to get to where I am with every other series I've been attached to and hated the ending, where I literally just forget the ending exists and it doesn't bother me. I'll get there one day, which is why I'm not getting rid of my merch or my volumes. I love the characters and 420 chapters of the story. That's enough for me, I just need time. Sorry idk if this answered your question. If I had it in me I'd search for posts and link them here but I definitely don't have it in me to do that. Thanks for the ask though :)

Thelreads, MHA 290, Replies Part 2
1) “You say he tossed you aside and forgot about you, but we know they all think you died, they even have a memorial to you, hell Endeavor was praying at it, it didn’t seemed like he didn’t cared that much. Sure, that was after he started to regret his actions, but still.”- Reminder: At least half of this is him intentionally twisting the facts to suit his public narrative. What Endeavour actually felt or did at the time is still unknown, but everything Toya is saying about himself should be taken with a massive grain of salt. If there’s truth in what he’s saying, it’s only because he’d decided the truth would hurt more than a manipulative lie.
2) “no wait a second, isn’t Toya- Dabi- fuck it, Tobi supposed to be the oldest one? Also, if they had you as this “super hero project” then why did they had another kid?”-Toya is alone in the training room, not being mentored by Enji, and then says that he’d go on to complain/vent about it to his younger brother afterwards. This means he was choosing to train by himself, but running into the stumbling block of his natural incompatibility with his own fire powers, and saw it as him having been “abandoned” by his own father after he just wasn’t genetically perfect enough for him, choosing to put his focus on a younger child who’d have the perfect combination. It’s why he expresses camaraderie towards Natsu, another “failure”, but hatred and dehumanisation towards the “success” Shoto, who got everything Toya has literally been killing to possess just by being born. Whilst complicated, he does seem to have some vestiges of care towards his fellow “failures”, but either animosity or apathy towards his parents, and sheer loathing towards the one he saw as “stealing” his place to exist in the world.
3) “Oooooookay Tobi, glad to know that yeah you really were around when Shoto was born, but because you’re talking about how he was a “success” then this means that you were around when he got his quirk, which would be like, 3 to 4 years old if I recall correctly
and you decided that you’d kill the baby…
…
yeah okay I’m not that surprised by the Twice thing anymore.”- It’s unclear if he meant killing Shoto once he’d become a legitimate hero in the industry to spite his father’s dreams and ambitions, or if he always had the desire to kill Shoto just from the moment of his existence but never really acted on it. Either way, hes always seen Shoto as his enemy to kill, not his family.
4) “Holy fuck okay seems like Dabi is off his fucking rockers right now.
Jesus.
Alright let us see where this is gonna go, but damn I already see this won’t end well.”- Toya’s always been mad as a hatter. He’s just very good at acting sane (Not that different from the rest of us, really ), and now the mask is off, he’s putting that acting skill to use in emphasizing his insanity and irredeemable nature. He is his family’s shame, and the world will witness and remember him forevermore because of this.
(MHA ch 279) 5) “Toga please, look at his fucking arm, that thing was never okay to begin with.”- His arm, or his mind? Either one works really, this boy be nuts.
(MHA ch 244)
6) “The wizard there was… weird, now that I think about it. He was really focused on taking down Endeavor, like the hero was to blame for everything wrong going on with society and only he knew it, but… it wasn’t clear what exactly triggered this. We know what Endeavor did wrong, but he wasn’t supposed to know that. I do wonder why he suddenly thought that Endeavor is the harbinger of their destruction, even though for society in general he is starting to surpass expectations.”- Turns out it’s because the prodigal son himself made him aware of the PLF’s plans and his own personal one to destroy Endeavour on a public scale, aware that Starservant was so unbelievable as a source of information that nobody would trust a thing he said, and that the old man’s only course of action was to try and remove Endeavour and get a new number one in his place, one which wouldn’t cause a societal loss of faith if his dark secrets were exposed and who was genuinely worthy of the position. all of which was only to help bolster Endeavour’s confidence in himself that he was doing the right thing before Dabi swooped in to take it all away and laugh in his face about it.
(MHA ch 250)
7) “Oh thank god it wasn`t… It seems like it was merely a stalker obsessed with Endeavor, a rare thing to see to be honest, but oh lord why do I feel this character will do something creepy?”- Turns out, not so rare when the head stalker is creating proxy stalkers to prop his old man up so he can knock him down all the pegs, and the whole of hero society with him. (MHA ch 252) 8) “Ah, right, Ball-pondering wizard did try to take down endeavor, almost forgot about it- But I didn`t forgot about the fact he seemed… strangely aware of something… something dark, darker, yet darker…”- Calling back to his failed attack on Endeavour is a neat little narrative trick to tie these two, seemingly-unrelated villains together and help factor in the reveal that Dabi’s the one who’s been pulling their strings the whole time, making him the overarching villain of this mini-arc
(MHA ch 251) 9) “GODDAMMIT NOW I`M QUESTIONING IF TOYA DIDN`T DIED BECAUSE ENDEAVOR REFUSED TO KILL A VILLAIN IN THE PAST- HORIKOSHI CAN YOU FUCKING STOP I`M TRYING TO STAY LOYAL TO MY DABI THEORY”-Good for you for sticking to the correct theory, though it’s possible that Dabi intentionally nudged Ending into targeting one of his family members around Endeavour to grant his insane wish instead of just attacking the man himself and praying for an over-strong blow. For Toya, he’d know that would dig deep into the pain caused by his own ‘demise’, and such emotional anguish for Endeavour was reward enough for him to suggest it to the insane psycho.
10) “Not like Twice at least
Sorry Tobi, you continue your little dance there, although I doubt that Endeavor is even listening right now, he’s still too shocked.”- Toya does not wish to let the past pain fade and the wounds heal, because he never stopped festering in his own anguish over being rendered “irrelevant” for the purpose he was born for. And so, in his spite, he refuses to die or go quietly into the night, using his own family drama as a springboard to launch an attack on the very image of heroics themselves, all to spread the pain beyond even those he’s personally involved with. This isn’t about spreading a message, it’s about spreading suffering and hopelessness for all, in the darkest hour.
11) “holy crap okay yeahSeems like someone is having the best day of his life indeed”- He’s been waiting for this all along, trusting nobody with the truth, hiding everything about himself, all to twist the situation to his advantage, and now it’s finally paid off better than he ever could have imagined, all without relying on outside help. It’s not just his spiteful retaliation on “Dr Frankenstein”, it’s his success at doing this all solo, proving how competent he is in comparison to Shoto.
12) “Dabi is the oldest, and then there’s Fuyumi and Natsu, then Shoto. Dabi says that he was born because Endeavor wanted a super-mega-perfect hero to surpass All Might, but Tobi also said that during his time training there, which should be when he was at least 3-4, Natsu was already there, and he wasn’t a baby, if Tobi was going to him to cry. If endeavor had Tobi, why did he had another two kids? And he implied that he met Shoto and wanted to kill him, but if that was the case then shouldn’t Shoto at least recall his existence?”- At the very least, Shoto has vague memories of Toya from afar, watching him play with the others before getting dragged away to train. However, they never got closer than that, and afterwards, Toya apparently had his accident that disfigured him and lead to them assuming he was dead. By all accounts, Shoto seems to have never really been able to interact well with his family until Endeavour finally became the number one hero, by which point Toya had been “dead” for years. @thelreads

fem!reader who’s usually introverted and reserved, being an affectionate drunk
like she’ll want to give kisses to everyone but particularly katsuki/denki/shinsou (sep)
WARM HUGS!!!!!!!!!!! and more that you’d like to add <333
introverted reader being an affectionate drunk
character(s) : bakugou katsuki, kaminari denki, shinsou hitoshi
legend : [Y/N = your name] aged up because you need to be 21 to drink, f! reader at the request of anon, quirk not mentioned
note(s) : i’m sorry if i don’t write denki properly 🧎 but i tried my best here. anyways— i’ll be editing the ENTIRE blog, and i might even change up the theme. i just want to organize the blog :))
»»————- ♡ ————-««
bakugou katsuki
he likes that you’re not too affectionate, well.. with pda anyway. you guys only hold hands in public
and even in private, you’re pretty tamed too
so when former class 1-A take their first drink of alcohol, celebrating their one year anniversary in the hero industry.
bakugou doesn’t really drink, because hello?? someone needs to be sober and take you home. it’s not safe to be at bars alone
he’s kinda shocked to see that when you’re intoxicated, your entire personality takes a 180
though yeah— bakugou isn’t visibly shocked when he sees you drunk
but he is surprised when he sees you starting to cling on him, in public??
yeah. you guys have been together since your second year in highschool. but that doesn’t mean he’s actually seen you like this
he’s groaning from this sudden action, gripping on your shoulders and shaking you— asking you to “get the hell off of him” but your response is to lean further into him NANDJW
katsuki’s very contradictory though, so don’t be mislead by his harsh words that easily.
while his nature is just being brass, and harsh— katsuki bringing you closer to him, enjoying the sudden affection you’re showering him in
his face only bloomed with red when you started peppering kisses on his forearm, but he decides to act smug about it until
“yeah, they’re affectionate. so what, extras?” he says that with a smirk, but his cheeks are crimson
but then you start cuddling onto yaoyorozu, rubbing your cheek against her shoulder, and he’s just there like 🧍♂️
that’s when he decides to take you home, because only HE can get your affection >:T
and he’s left surprised when you start kissing him
but he kisses back anyways, despite the strong alcohol in your mouth
“damn Y/N, didn’t know this side of you existed. it’s a good thing i fucking love you”
he doesn’t do anything though. he loves your affection, but he knows you’re just like this when you’re drunk
and he rather get your kisses when you’re sober anyway so 🗿
he makes sure to take off any makeup on your face with a cleansing pad (if you’re wearing any) and dress you in proper sleeping wear.
oh and he’s definitely gonna yell at you the next day, saying things like “you didn’t tell me you were like that when you’re drunk, shitty woman.”
and you’re just like ❓ not remembering anything at all.
kaminari denki
he’s over the moon
he was kinda down at first when he found out you weren’t so affectionate in public
but he gets it because not everyone has physical touch as their love language
so you guys just stick with quick touches and kisses (which is totally better than nothing.)
so you guys are drinking casually on a friday night with the bakusqud,
and you guys are talking— denki’s making you laugh, you and mina are just talking while you guys take in some beer
but then you start to get a little tipsy, which kinda lead you to do the funniest things he’s ever seen
and kaminari’s like “🤠 something to tease Y/N for!”
but he’s immediately silenced when you throw your head down on his lap— giggling as you hold onto his hand
kaminari’s like :00 but he’s also like.. omg.
we’re in public?? this is public affection
he takes this moment to accept the touch, as he’s drunk himself. but he never actually brings it to the next step because he wants you to be aware of your actions
and he doesn’t wanna take advantage of you! he may be drunk but he’s still conscious of himself
so yeah— he’s very surprised though because you’re usually collected with physical affection.
but ugh! mina and the others are teasing him about your sudden change of demeanor, and denki’s like..
“yeah! i didn’t know this side of Y/N existed!” denki says, his hand massaging your temple
but you start chasing after everyone in the bakusquad, starting with mina
and denki’s like “woah there :0” and bakugou’s just begging him to take you home
eventually he does take you home, but he’s kinda laughing his ass off because of the things you’re saying— it’s so different.
he does your skincare, because you’re nearly blacked out. and he can only laugh at your intoxicated reactions
and when you guys are finally relaxing on the bed, he’s cupping your cheeks— wondering the next time he’ll see that side
oh, and he’ll definitely teased you the day after— WITH VIDEO EVIDENCE!
shinsou hitoshi
you and hitoshi prefer staying at home more than going to bars every single weekend
but you were a little agitated from the excessive amount of hero work— so mina invited you to go out and get drinks with your friends!
and you think “hm.. why not. it might make me feel less pissy.” and you decide to go with them for drinks also.. don’t drink too much— especially when it’s a coping mechanism
hitoshi accompanies you because he wants to still be with you, and he ends up going for drinks with the rest
hitoshi drinks a bit, but i headcanon his alcohol tolerance to be VERY high. so even with 4 shots, he’s still very much sober.
so he doesn’t get drunk, not even the slightest bit of tipsy.
and he looks over at you, and he sees that you’re staring to become drunk.
so he slides over to you, asking you if you’re okay, as the good boyfriend he is.
your response was to wrap your arms around his shoulders, burying your face into his arm— hiccuping
hitoshi’s surprised at first. the usually introverted Y/N that steers away from public display of affection
is clinging onto him
he’s fine with the fact that you’re not very big on a lot of physical affection, since he’s not very into a lot of pda too
so you guys just stick to holding hands and resting a hand on your back. but HUGS?? LIKE THIS?? he’s ascending
he immediately regains his composure, grinning and admiring you that signature smile of his— holding onto you with one hand
denki’s just on the sidelines like 👁👁 “they’re hugging!” and he’s just so proud
but he gets concerned for you eventually, since you start wandering around— latching onto midoriya
midoriya’s literally red. but he’s also really apologetic, and shinsou can’t even be mad because you’re literally drunk to the point you don’t know where you’re going.
so shinsou takes you away, walking over to get a cup of water— and handing it to you, rubbing your back as he urges you to drink some water
“i know you’re agitated, kitten. but you had too much to drink.” he tells you calmly— as he assists you with walking, holding your hand as you guys walk home
he takes off your makeup (again, if you’re wearing any) and he finds himself admiring you when you cling onto him like a cute little kitten
then, he plops you on the bed, throwing the covers over you— whispering the sweetest things in your ear
“sleep well, Y/N.”
before he could walk away, you call after him— you sit up as your hand grips on his wrist. “toshiii.”
“what is it?”
“please kiss me.”
can he reject your request? no.
he walks over to you and kisses you, his hand resting on your nape— and he feels exhilrated from the sensation
but he pulls back, “you smell like alcohol still.” he teases
you frown, and go under the covers “good night.” hitoshi can only chuckle by this action.
but he sneaks into bed with you, spooning you— as he luls you to sleep
(he doesn’t go to sleep though, because he’s using this time to be thankful for having the privilege to date you.)
no shinsou, we’re lucky to date you

Everything wrong with Demon Slayer. In Bullet Points. Spoilers. Obviously.
•Tanjiro doesn't know what a demon is even though there's no reason why he shouldn't. There are so many around that a whole corp is needed to fight them, people in the village believe it, and Giyu was nearby which implies demons are in the area
•We're never told why the Demon Slayer Corp isn't recognized by the govt, nor does it make sense. Demons have been around for 100s of years as the strongest beings on the planet, with many witnesses and victims to verify their existence
•Tanjiro's setup is not done well. A common trope is for the mc to have a good life and have it taken away. When used correctly, the story takes the time to make us learn and care about the characters. The family is on screen for 2.5mins just to show they're a happy family and they aren't memorable. If I'm wrong give me each of their names, personalities, and guy to girl ratio without googling it
•What is the point of having 5 siblings if they're just going to die in less than 3 minutes? If we don't know the characters there's no reason to care if they die
•The training arc is greatly misused. 2 years in 1.5 eps. Should've been longer to flesh out Tanjro's forms and the overall power system (see my post on that if you're interested)
• It was never explained why Tanjiro could see the ghosts of former students
• Zero reasons to care about Nezuko and her 2-year sleep. We dont know anything about her and we know nothing bad will happen cause she's the entire focus of the mc's mission
• No explanation as to why she slept for 2 years. That may be how she heals, but why that long? Nothing prompted that time
• Nezuko's entire character is being cute. Cute is not a personality trait
• Zenitsu is a bad character. He's comic relief, but he isn't funny. His jokes: he screams, screams about girls, passes out from cowardice. Repeat
•Cant as get invested in fights because we don't know the movesets due to the abilities being specific and restricted (the result of bad training arc)
• Only thing good about the fights is the animation. The choreography is basic and uninspired. MHA is even better in that aspect
• 4 of the 6 lower demon moons were killed for no reason and we never see their abilities. They could and shouldve been used to show progression
MANGA and MOVIE SPOILERS
• Ranking system is barely used and has 0 references for strength. Tanjiro didnt even know how to check his rank and never did it again
•Tanjiro couldnt beat the 2nd weakest demon moon yet somehow beats the strongest of the lower six, roided up on Muzan's blood, with Inosuke's help
- Said demon not using his full power
is nothing more than plot
convenience
•Rengoku dies after the first arc where he's relevant. There's little reason for Tanjiro or the audience to be sad about his death because we barely knew him
• Tanjiro later goes on to talk to Rengoku's family like he knew him his whole life
•The Sound Pillar has a similar issue where he shows up for one arc, we get a bit of info and he's gone for the rest of the story. As for the rest of the pillars, there isn't much to them because we dont get to properly know them
•Example: Snake pillars backstory was shoehorned into the final battle where it had nothing to do with what's going on
•Inosuke gets stabbed in the chest by a poison hook and survived. The Sound Pillar who was trained to fight off poison succumbed to it, but Inosuke is fine because he's "a rugged mountain boy"
•Inosuke still had the strength to decapitate number 6
•Zenitsu randomly has a new ability called Godspeed. Never once mentioned or foreshadowed. Not even in the previous (2nd) training arc after infinity train
•A pillar gets stuck in a water trap by the 5th upper demon moon and cant break through it with his sword. A kid swordsmith fails to do it with a knife, be he somehow blows through it with his lungs
• The comment from the mangaka that the illustrations of the breathing forms are just visual representations and not actually there does not make any kind of sense with a lot of the fights
•Giyu and Tanjiro are losing badly to Demon Moon 3 and only won cause Tanjiro's face looks similar to someone he knew (who we dont care about) and lets himself die cause he Tanjiro helped remembered his past
• Misuse of flashbacks and backstories for most characters. They're either unnecessary, irrelevant to the whole story, or dont contribute anything
•Nezuko is way too op for no reason. The only demon who can recover from sleep, regenerates limbs at the pace of an upper 6 demon moon, gets a whole new transformation which was never explained, doesn't need to sleep to recover the energy, and still has enough power to burn away everyones poison
- her blood demon art is to set HER
BLOOD on fire, so that makes no sense.
There's zero explanation to it so choose
your headcanon
•Nezuko is the chosen one. Literally, she overcomes the sun. Because she can. The asspull was so great it echoed to the main villain, changed his plan, and changed to the overall plot
•Muzan isn't a good villain. Tanjiro just walked up to him and grabbed him like it was nothing. He then didnt kill Tanjiro even though he has the same earrings as another demon slayer who tried to kill him just to keep his human persona.
-Why is he even bothering posing as a human?
-He has a kid that is the result of a demon and
human, how on Earth is that not touched
on?? Was he trying to find the spider lily? If so
how does being around random ordinary
families help? IT'S NEVER EXPLAINED
•Zenitsu goes through a very drastic character change with practically 0 transition (due to his old training partner becoming a demon)
• He uses a brand new form to beat him, which we never saw him develop in the training arc before the fight what so ever
• He goes right back to being the person he was before
• Genya's ability is never explained
• Upper moon 1 says he's seen it before but it's still never explained
• The final fight with Muzan is over 10% of the manga and drags on
•Muzan pulls a "this isnt even my final form"
• Tamiyo claimed she needed the blood of the 12 demon moons to find a way to beat Muzan and heal Nezuko, but just ended working with the insect pillar to develop a poison
• Said poison ages Muzan even though he said to be immortal
• Poison counteracts Muzan by going "this isn't even my final effect" and hinders him in 3 more ways
• Tanjiro becomes a demon for honestly no reason

ship history meme
Embrace your past and get to know your friends’ fandom origins!
Rules: Post gifs of your fandoms / ships starting with your most current hyperfixation and work backwards. (Bonus points if you share any stories about how or when you got into that ship! But not necessary!!) Then tag anyone whose fandom history you’d like to learn about!
Tagged by the most gorgeous, smartest, sweetest, and kindest person in my life @sightetsound <3 Sorry y’all, I have a lot of hyperfixations and I’m on NyQuil!
1. Katsuki Bakugo and Eijiro Kirishima, My Hero Academia - I literally can’t watch Season 4 until it’s finished because my heart will Explode if I’m left on a cliffhanger involving these too!!! (Unbreakable T.T <3) I don’t usually like animes but I fell in love with his trash bastard and his soft rock boyfriend by the villain’s attack in S1. It all started when I got a TikTok because a Very Hot Bakugo cosplayer was on there. (Literally, their rendition of Bakugo is just, umph. They have appeared in my dream.). As she got more popular he started cosplaying more of Class 1-A of MHA, and I kept wondering?? What the fuck is this anime about?? Why is there an alien girl?? I soon gave in and watched the show to gain context to this thirst trap. I have so many feels for these boys, even though I don’t post on them much here, and T.T
2. Alec Lightwood and Magnus Bane, Shadowhunters - I literally almost wrote my thesis because of this ship. I got into Shadowhunters because I was depressed in a foreign, racist country where I couldn’t go outside alone because old white men would corner me on the street, and everyone was talking about how Mike from Glee was kissing a guy at a wedding? Instead of partying during my study abroad trip, I gobbled down Malec content. And like who wouldn’t?? Harry Shum Jr. was playing a bisexual warlock?? And he had lines and a main character role??? An interracial couple where the characters are both POC?? Sign me up! But then I quickly fell in love with awkward gayby Alec and immediately knew how it felt to be in his shoes. (Disclaimer: I still haven’t finished the show because I don’t want their story to end, but just seeing their wedding scene????? Tears!!!!!!!!!! Both wedding scenes! I-) I just love how soft they look at each as they realize how lucky they are to be able to fall in love against the odds. T.T They deserve the world and all the warlock and shadowhunter babies and T.T This is just going to devolve into me crying so-
3. Stiles Stilinski and Derek Hale, Teen Wolf - I got into Teen Wolf to escape the hellfire that had become the Glee fandom around S3-S4. (Tbh it might have been Dereklei’s constant Sterek content on my dash that led me to give in.) Stiles was bi (through subtext) and definitely turned on by an older werewolf. What more could a depressed Gleek ask for? And listen - now looking back, Sterek is definitely gay Twilight - if Bella was snarkier, had a mental illness, and also a personality. Sterek was the ship to get me back into writing fanfiction and where I could read paranormal characters working through PTSD, ADHD, and other mental illnesses while fighting monsters and having unrealistic sex! I also love those future fics where Beacon Hills isn’t a Hellmouth anymore, and everyone’s alive and just living as one big found family. Truly, Derek deserves the world and I love him so much, and Stiles definitely agrees.
4. Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles, One Direction - If it’s a surprise that I’m a dark larrie, please read my bio. HL made me believe that love is real and exists and can last for years. I got into One Direction in 2011 through a Lilo fanfic, but as soon as I watched the Video Diaries,,,we knew. Louis has saved my life in ways I can’t describe and the songs that they’ve written for each other through their tough times are so inspiring to listen and dance to. Seeing how they’ve been dragged apart by management, Sony Entertainment, and the whole music industry as a whole even though they exist in glass closets is very disheartening to see. But their resilience that they show through their art (Only the Brave, Sweet Creature, If I Could Fly, and like so many others) is always there. If you want to fall in this rabbit hole, look at freddieismyqueen on YT and come inside lol. Larry is real.
5. Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson, Glee - the ship that got me on Tumblr! I didn’t start watching Glee until the summer before S2 came out. My whole choir was into it and I didn’t want to be “mainstream”, but Kurt was the first openly gay teen character that I saw on TV. When I heard a character played by Darren Criss, a musical theater YT legend from AVPM, I had to watch it. I ended up binging the first season with those Netflix DVDs during summer break (yeah remember when Netflix wasn’t streaming? lol). I watched every episode of that god-forsaken show the night of (or night after illegally, hidden from my parents) for that ship, and then me and my best friend would rant about it for the whole week: rinse and repeat. The episode they got together made me scream and I definitely put those Glee Rewind songs in my iPhone. (Fun fact: I used to cry at night because I wished someone like Kurt could love me like that because I heavily related to Blaine and his whole situation). I naturally stopped watching Glee the moment they broke them up and I’m still mad at their hasty attempt to marry them out of nowhere with no well-written getting together / make-up arc other than Jigsaw?? and a barn wedding?? As if Hummel would. What a trash fire. But dang, Glee fanfics have some of the dirtiest, kinkiest, forbidden fics out there. If you were ever on Glee_Kink_Meme on LJ, you know.
6. Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter - the ship that started it all, the big kahuna, the ultimate enemies to lovers for 90s kids. Drarry got me into the fandom world in middle school, where I basically lived on FFN and LJ while pretending to do my homework. I used to get ready every day by watching the same playlist of “The best Harry Potter videos on Youtube!” (curated by Ariel333Lindt, who was the only queer person I knew but lived in Eastern Europe, where I could see two gay people kiss and fall in love in the safety of my room through badly photoshopped videos. Please check out that playlist). I just love how each fic is a microcosm where they have to construct how magical systems work, the backstories of pureblood families, creatures, or just wizarding culture for the end goal of having Drarry fuck and fall in love! I love redemption arcs that take 200k to achieve, I love dark!Harry takes, and every single different damn take on Narcissa, Pansy, and Millicent - because deep down that’s the writer trying to come to turns on whether or not Draco should be redeemed to get together with Harry. (I mean we all know they’re obsessed with each other, book 6 anyone?) I feel like Drarry fics have the best worldbuilding and characterizations of these characters, and I just love those moments when Draco and Harry take a moment to take a breath together and realize how far they’ve come. No one else can understand how it felt to be the pariah or the chosen one, they both interacted with Voldemort the most, and they have the most history together. They should have gotten together! But I mean the author’s dead, am I right?
So that was a lot! Those are all the ships that impacted me that I still participate with. They have shaped me for better or worse, and have made me learn more about who I am and what I want (or don’t want) in a relationship. This was the most fun essay I’ve ever written on NyQuil!
I’m tagging @homosociallyyours because I really want to know your fandom story! Also @stozierbrak because I love you and must hear you gush about your boys. I’m also tagging @iamaqualady because you’re literally the most intriguing person I know and I’m glad we’re friends even though we haven’t interacted that much? ish?

Submission about being social
{1} I used to be a very social person, but since middle school I can barely make friends with anyone. It used to be that I would try to make friends with people and they would ignore me or only answer me to avoid being rude. Sometimes people were nice enough to pretend to be friends with me for a while, but would eventually either tell me they didn’t want to hang out with me anymore or just try to distance themselves from me. I don’t know why people did this, I never saw any big differences
{2} between how I acted and how everyone else did. I remember noticing this from when I was 7 or 8, but when I was 14 it started to bother me, and it’s kind of gone downhill from there. Once I got to high school, I failed every group project because I couldn’t bring myself to ask anyone to work with me, I had no friends, and I stopped talking to my middle school friends and hoped they would forget I ever existed. Whenever I
{3} have to speak or do literally anything that’s not sitting in a chair, I’m always so awkward that I end up hating myself for the rest of the day, one time I fell down the stairs at school as over a thousand people were going to lunch, all of which immediately burst into laughter and I was genuinely thinking about going to the third floor and jumping off the rails. Eventually I started seriously thinking about if I was supposed to
{4} be in the world or not and started self harming, and that low point is where I’ve been for the last few years, but I am a few months clean. I know you didn’t really want a full autobiography, so feel free to skip it if it’s too long, but I felt like you had to know the whole story. I just want to be as social and happy as I used to be, but I don’t know how to get there or how to get people to start treating me like a normal person.
Hi love,
Thank you for getting in touch with us here at MHA! I am really sorry that you are struggling so much right now, but reaching out to us for help was a great step to take <3 I hope I’ll be able to give you a little information and advice about how to begin dealing with these negative feelings.
First of all, I am so so sorry that there thoughts have caused you to struggling with self harm and suicidal thoughts. I do need to say that if you ever take any action to end your life or seriously hurt yourself, then please call your local emergency services (e.g. 911) for immediate medical attention. If you are reaching a crisis point and are in danger of harming yourself then try to get yourself to the ER, or to somewhere safe and contact someone who can come and help to keep you safe. You can also always contact a helpline or web counsellor for 24/7 support. I want you to know that you are definitely meant to be part of this world, and you bring love and happiness that the world would greatly miss if you weren’t here. You are so loved <3
I am so sorry that you are struggling with urges to self-harm - but please know that you are definitely not alone. I, too, have used self harm as a way to cope with feelings of depression and anxiety. I am going to link you to some of our pages about self harm and ways to try and overcome the urges you may have to hurt yourself. Personally I found the most helpful thing when facing an urge, was to keep my hands busy by doing something active like knitting or playing an instrument. A technique I suggest you try is working with time goals - so whenever you are facing an urge to hurt yourself, say to yourself that you will not hurt yourself for 5 minutes, and then when that 5 minutes is up the urge may have passed entirely. If the urge has not passed, then keep going with promising yourself you won’t hurt yourself for x amount of time, until the urge goes away; I promise it will go away eventually <3

I am not a professional, so I cannot make any definite comment on what you may be experiencing, but I do know that you are going through a really hard time right now and you deserve to get access to all of the help available to you. I really do think it would be a good idea for you to reach out to a professional for some support. A good place to start would be your doctor; they can explore possible diagnosis’s with you and will be able to refer you to some more specialist help from a mental health practitioner. I know how hard it can be to admit feelings of hurting yourself and loneliness, but the professionals you see only have your best interests at heart and will help you to explore the most effective treatment(s) for you. You may be offered medication, inpatient treatment, talking therapies, and many other options; it is about working with the professional and finding which treatment will work best for you in your current state. Talking therapy may be a really good place for you to start as a therapist will be able to help you understand your negative thoughts and what is triggering them; further to this, they will hopefully be able to give you some great coping techniques. Here is a link to our page about getting help; if this page leaves you with any questions about seeking treatment, then please drop us another message and one of the other admins or I will be more than willing to help you out!
Again, bearing in mind that I am not a professional, and anything I say is based off my own knowledge and experiences - it does sound to me like you may be experiencing a degree of social anxiety. To begin with, I’m going to link you to our page about social anxiety here; this has a lot of information about social anxiety and some of the diagnostic criteria.
To challenge negative thoughts, I found it really useful to stop, acknowledge my thought, and then ask myself whether I have any evidence to support that thought. For example, if I find myself thinking ‘he thinks i’m stupid’, I stop and ask myself ‘Are you just mind-reading? What evidence do you have to say that he thinks you’re stupid?’ Normally, you will find that you don’t have any evidence to support that thought, and challenging it can help you to dismiss and move over the thought. I suggest you have a look at our anxiety page series, specifically the self-help and calming down pages. Grounding techniques may also be really useful to you when your anxiety is increasing, we have a page about this here. I would recommend something physical like running your hands under cold water, and then saying the alphabet forwards and then backwards slowly.
Something I want you to try, if you feel able to, is to start looking at the patterns in your social anxiety. So think back to some of the times when you have experienced social anxiety, and start to break it down into:
Your thoughts before a social event (e.g. everyone will think i’m stupid)
The physical symptoms you experience (e.g. panic attack)
The negative view you have of yourself (e.g. i look really ugly today)
Avoidance behaviours you use (e.g. playing on my phone)
Your thoughts after a social event (e.g. everyone hates me and won’t want to spend time with me again)
It may also be really good to keep a diary for whenever you feel anxious in the future and note down how each attack fits into the above categories. This can be really useful as it helps you to understand what is behind the anxiety and it means you can start tackling it in smaller sections. Recognising and tackling it in smaller sections can help you to feel less overwhelmed and lost in the negatives!
When dealing with anxiety in social settings it can be really tempting to throw yourself into the deep end and try and face the issue completely head on straight away; sometimes this can actually hinder progress rather than help. So maybe a good place to start would just be spending time with a close friend that you trust and maybe letting them introduce you to someone new? Then slowly you can start meeting more and more people; hopefully just meeting one or two at once will build up your confidence and make the process a little less scary for you.
Online is also a great way to make friends or at least first contact someone. For example, I have made a lot of friends on Tumblr through recovery pages or fandom accounts. There are plenty of wonderful people online who will be more than willing to chat to you, and i’m sure there is at least one person that you share a common interest with, no matter how niche it may be! Or a little message to someone on facebook, like just a ‘hi! how are you?’ is a great way to start up a conversation and begin building a bond with someone. Hopefully, talking to people online will make it a little easier for you to start talking to them in person too! Have you looked at any local groups or volunteer programmes that you would be interested in joining? Sometimes just knowing that you have an interest or passion in common with someone can make it a little easier to begin chatting with them.
I hope this has been of some use to you, lovely. If there is ever anything else that we can help you with, then please don’t hesitate to get back in touch. Take care!
‘‘Fall down seven times, stand up eight’‘.

this is late to the last jojo ask, but some said to legit skip Part 3? That's THE introduction to Stands (aka Proto-Personas) and the most popular part by far; that's weird to skip it @3@;; but anyway is there anything specifically ya didn't like about Jojo so far? That might be telling on whether ya do or don't like the later parts too (Also I'm wondering about the, uh, bizarreness since ya didn't like stuff like Makoto's bike Persona and Jojo goes WAY further in weird Stands)
Ah sorry, it’s less that they said “Skip pt 3″ and more “skip pt 1 and 2″ AND that “things pick up in pt 3 and 4 so it’s best to skip to one of those two”. ;w;
I guess I just don’t like the characters so far (like I don’t hate them, besides Dio cause obvie, but they’re just eh)? Like I don’t like Dio, I know that’s like.....the whole point, but it was to the point that I even seeing him fail would make me happy (similar issue I have with Bakugo and why I won’t watch MHA anymore). Well that was the first issue I had, with both starting the manga and watching the first ep. After going back, it’s just kinda average and I’m eh on it. But again that’s just part 1. I’ve only watched one ep of pt 2 and......I don’t remember much. And I don’t think the series is at the super wackiest part yet, so it’s not that it’s too wacky it’s just.....there. So I can’t say it’s the bizarre part that turns me off. DX
As for Makoto’s Persona (and tbh it’s not just her’s but Futaba’s as well), it’s DEF NOT bizarre and not the issue I have with it. The issue I have with her Persona is 1) Reminds me of (and while not a Persona, basically just rips off of) Persona x Detective and that’s something everyone should forget (premise is fine, actual content is not to be fair), and the biggest one 2) Screws with P5′s uhhhh “whole deal”.
Under the cut of what I mean cause it takes a bit to explain (and cause I’m thorough and long winded 8U) but that’s it for Jojo (btw again, all issues I talk about is base P5, no royal stuff till after that game is out in english in case people were worried):
The deal is, 1) Downplays obstacles, 2) it’s not utilized well, 3) brings up questions (ties into 1 tbh)
Ignoring the fact that they shouldn’t have needed Makoto to get into Kane’s dungeon (since he said they ALL owed him, thus meaning the PT are also his “customers”), if Makoto can ride her Persona (and Futaba can ride in her Persona), and everyone else’s personas can float off the ground.....and the MC has a winged Persona (has a few, but his defacto base one is winged).....it makes you wonder WHY THE HELL DIDN’T THEY TRY FLYING TO BEGIN WITH?! I get if for some reason, Futaba/Makoto’s Personas are special and they can touch them but other’s can’t with theres, but that is not a canon explanation, that is a sillyfudgemonkey explanation that I’m pulling out of my butt (because nothing in the game indicates that is the case). Okumura’s Dungeon? Why not just have Futaba abduct us and fly us through the dungeon avoiding enemies (I mean that dungeon has REALLY HIGH ceiling)? Sae’s, there are two points in that dungeon where we could’ve just been air lifted up to get over an obstacle (one that shouldn’t exist that is where we have to leave the dungeon, the other is at the end where S!Sae raises the coins or whatever bs). Hell some of Shido’s goons are found in open areas, if we just airlifted ourselves there the dungeon would’ve gone by a helluva lot faster. It just raises questions on taking an easier way that should be possible. Now if this was any Persona game (minus having Necro for Fuuka, that might break Tartarus’ height thing 8U), this would be less of an issue due to well....not having the same terrain/setting that P5 has (that being said it’d still have the same issue below of not being utilized). BUT if those two weren’t there, then a lot of the puzzles wouldn’t be an issue due to....not having those easy way outs....right in front of us..... XP
There’s also the fact it’s not utilized well....aka......just....not at all. Like there’s pretty much no reason for it, it adds nothing (it might do something in Scramble because she’ll probably be moving around unlike a turnbase game, but wow good job Atlus you justified something like 4 years after it’s release). She can ride it and that’s it. The literally do nothing with it (same with Futaba’s, hell thinking of Futaba, PQ2, or at least the first dungeon, could’ve gone by a lot faster if she just floated above the city....could’ve gotten to the next floor a lot faster XP). It never goes past looking cool, even tho those two could be REALLY USEFUL in certain situation. Hell they could provide a great distraction if we did the distraction play from Dungeon 2, except you know faster and harder to catch (and less strenuous than Ryu’s running). I dunno, just have Makoto and Futaba riding next to the Mona bus a few times (no reason to have Makoto drive when she has her own ride and the MC has proven he can drive anyway, hell if the team can run down Futaba’s Palace then Makoto can summon her Persona and help drive down it and not have to only rely on Mona’s transformation XP). And yeah this is an issue any Persona game could run into, if you don’t utilize it all you can think is “Why? Just....why?” (even PxD utilized Sousei tbh XP Heck, P4G, tho improbably/impractical, utilized it’s mopeds more both in and out of battle, and same with Mitsuru’s motorcycle tho when it became useless they got rid of it).
Tldr; They raise too many questions, and there’s really no reason they exist outside of looking cool even tho they could be really useful.

Anime Overview 2018
So as the year comes to a close and this blog just gets started, I thought it would be interesting to look back on the shows I watched this year and just collect some general thoughts on them. I watched at least some of 14 anime this year, which is a decent number, considering the amount of schoolwork I’ve had and just my life in general, but I would have liked to watch a few more so that I would have more to talk about, but whatever. Note that some of these shows aren’t from 2018, I just watched them this year, so yeah I’m late to the party on a few things. None of this is actual analysis or anything either, just whatever came up over the past few days, so some of these are just a few short sentences and others are pretty long paragraphs.
Top 3, Aka: Shows with Unbelievably High Amounts of Fucked Up Shit Going On (in no particular order)
Devilman Crybaby: What even was this. Like, I know what it was, because I watched it twice, and enjoyed it both times. But what was this. Everything about this show was insane, and yet somehow it came together into something that was both incredible and mostly comprehensible. I will say that I was sad to discover that the whole show was not going to be rendered in the crazy color schemes from the first episode, but maybe it's better that way in the long run, and the more desaturated colors in the rest of the show also have an interesting effect, so I'm not really complaining. I also wish i had gotten around to reading the original manga at some point during the year, since I know it’s completely different, but alas, school kept me away from it, even though I have a physical copy of the first half waiting on my manga shelf. Other things: I fucking love the animation in this show. Its weird and kind of ugly, but I love it because it’s supposed to look like that and it works perfectly for portraying all of the crazy things that happen. The soundtrack also absolutely slaps, 10/10. If you ever want to feel depressed listen to the last song on this soundtrack, it’s guaranteed to work.
Made in Abyss: So pretty much everything about this show is amazing. Even if the plot and world building hadn’t been incredible (which they were), the soundtrack and the art would probably be enough to keep it on this list. I didn’t really know what to expect here other than “children climb into a giant hole filled with monsters”, and I definitely did not expect it to be one of the most existentially terrifying shows I had ever watched, but here we are. Part of this is the actual scale of the Abyss, which is a kilometer across and a completely unknown depth, part of it is the fact that a lot of the characters, including some of the adults, are really adorable and do not blend in with the atmosphere of the show at all, and a lot of it is the fact that I am willingly watching two 12 year olds get mutilated and traumatized by going to a place that one of them physically cannot return from. But I also could not stop watching all of this go down, which I think the show is very aware of since unlike the other two shows on this list, which usually censored some of the fucked up shit in some way, nothing here is covered up or cut away from (unless it absolutely had to be for TV reasons), so you’re just forced to deal with it (points for one scene literally making me want to throw up). I love this show and I am so hype for season 2 hopefully next year.
Banana Fish: If you read my review of this, then you might be thinking what I am also thinking right now, which is that it might not be fair for me to make this type of judgement on this show since I don’t feel like I have a good grasp on it yet. Which yeah, you’re right, but there were enough really strong elements in this show to make it stand out to me as something that was worth my time, and despite my many problems with its execution, I still love this series a lot and have no problem putting it on this list. Some of the other shows on the complete list were also very good and could have ended up in this spot; some of them may have even been better shows at a technical level, but when I get right down to it, this show affected me more than the others, and just fit better into my personal preferences. It’s here because I feel like once I do have a better grasp on it, it will have earned its place on this list. It’s complicated.
Bottom 3 (also in no particular order)
Darling in the Franxx: I don’t have much to say here because I only made it 5 episodes into this. Mecha anime is already not at all my jam, and this was just, awkward to watch. If you’re unfamiliar, giant robot monsters exist in a post apocalyptic world that can only be defeated by mechas piloted by pairs of teens sitting in not-so subtle sex positions. It’s uhhh, yeah, interesting. Apparently there were some themes about adolescence and sexuality to be found here, but either they were communicated extremely poorly or I didn’t watch enough to get to those themes. It doesn’t really matter though, because I have no intention of ever finishing this.
Kado: the Right Answer: I have a whole post about this show coming up, but in summary, the first half is a masterpiece, and the second half is so bad that it was all I could think about for about 3 days after finishing it because I was so mad about it. If you do not like CG anime, this show will also not work for you, although that’s really the least of its problems. Also, queerbaiting bad. I will say this though: if the concept of this show interests you, go watch episodes 0-7 and then write your own ending, I promise it will be better than what actually happens. If you’ve already watched all 14 episodes, I’m sorry.
ACCA 13: I honestly have no idea if I actually watched this show this year or late last year, but I remember being upset because the premise was pretty interesting, but it kind of took a weird turn that I wasn’t expecting. It isn’t necessarily a bad show, but of the ones I watched this year, it was just okay. I also put it on this list because I can’t really remember anything about it other than that, so maybe I would enjoy it if I watched it again, but since it didn’t stick with me the first time, that seems unlikely.
Other shows I watched (again:no particular order)
BNHA/MHA Season 3: It’s BNHA. If you’re watching it, cool. If not, also cool. Season 3 was good, as always. I don’t really know what else to say here.
Hinamatsuri: Spring 2018 was pretty good to us, and I generally liked this show, although I wish it had stuck to more comedy in the later episodes rather than shifting towards a serious plot structure. Yakuza man attempts to raise a preteen girl with psychic powers who just appears in his house. Chaos ensues. Love that. It was weird, and I don’t really have any serious complaints, so there it is.
Yoitsuiro Biyori: This is a show about 4 attractive dudes running a cafe. They have a very cute cat and help people with their minor life inconveniences. That’s pretty much it. And despite my love of fucked up shit in shows (see my top 3), I really enjoyed this one. Maybe more than I should have. It’s chill. There isn’t anything to complain about because there’s nothing going on. In fact, if I had to make one complaint, it’s that there are moments where they attempt to create drama for one of the main dudes. Stop that. Also a fun thing: you can feel free to ship none, all, or any combination of the main characters and all of these choices are justified by canon. I’ve rambled enough here. Watch this show.
Houseki no Kuni: Yes I’m late to the party here. I am aware. I’m not sure how I feel about this show yet though. I love the concept, and the animation looks pretty amazing for CG (also, that soundtrack… seriously good shit), but I can’t get over the fact that the plot structure of this show is just… weird? At the beginning I felt like I had a decent idea of what kinds of things would happen and what it would be about. And then it wasn’t that, which is fine. But I never felt like I had a good grasp on what it actually was, and by the end of the season, it had oddly looped back to the original concept anyways, which was confusing. I think this is just one I’m going to have to read the manga/wait on season 2 to fully understand, which is fine with me.
Gakkuen Babysitters: Similar to Yoitsuiro Biyori, there really isn’t much substance here to discuss. If watching teenage boys take care of disgustingly cute toddlers fits within your interests, then you’ll love this. If not, then there really isn’t anything here for you. Then again, I never would have imagined myself enjoying something like this, and I still had a pretty decent time with it, so maybe you’ll surprise yourself.
Baby Steps: Okay so I didn’t finish this, but I’m definitely planning to, because for some god forsaken reason I am in love with this show. I’ve never enjoyed sports anime, and this show looks like shit 99% of the time, but for some reason I could not stop watching it when I started it at the end of the summer, and ended up watching like 25 episodes in 2 or 3 days before I had to do something else. Why do I love this show from 2014 (I refuse to believe this was created in 2014 but I suppose I have to trust wikipedia here) about a high school student giving up his position as the smartest person in his class to learn to play tennis instead? It is a mystery to me. I don’t even know if I can really recommend it, but if you’re looking for sports anime, it's there I guess, just don’t expect it to look as good as pretty much any other sports anime.
Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens: Where do I even start with this show. I make no promises about if it is actually that good, but I do love it a lot (it would probably be #4 or #5 on the list). The concept here is that 3% of the population of the Hakata ward in Fukuoka are employed as hitmen, and from there you can probably assume with a good amount of certainty what kinds of outrageously wild situations end up occurring as a result. I don’t really know how to categorize this series, because on one hand I think a lot of it is completely serious, but on the other hand, there are multiple scenes in which the main characters, all of whom are hitmen or other criminals, get together and play baseball against other teams of criminals. And don’t get me wrong, the serious parts of the story are pretty good, but my favorite moments were things like the baseball scenes, where the show just does whatever the fuck it wants because why not? Even something that isn’t inherently weird or funny like trading business cards suddenly becomes the funniest thing ever because the reality of this series is that hitmen and torturers and all types of criminals run into each other on a regular basis and need a way to trade information about their services. It’s ridiculous and I love it.
Neo Yokio:How much of this did I watch? 1 episode. Do I feel mentally capable of watching another episode? Absolutely not. Did I enjoy my time with that 1 episode? I don’t know. I’m also not sure I didn’t enjoy it. This show defies categorization and maybe that’s okay. Is this even an anime? Uncertain.
And that’s it for this post! I’m already working on a bunch of stuff for 2019, so I should be able to post ~twice a month (that’s the goal, anyways), and the next Banana Fish review will hopefully be written by mid-January, so in case you haven’t seen me say enough about it yet, do not worry, there is a lot more. It’s sounding like my first anime of the year might be Forest of Piano because a friend recommended it to me earlier today (this may be surprising, but no I do not enjoy torturing myself with CG anime), so we’ll see how that goes and if there’s anything worth writing about. Anyways, Happy New Years everyone! Hopefully 2019 will be a good year for all of us!
#im not tagging all these shows#overall this was a pretty good anime year for me though#ive gotten a lot better at knowing what shows ill like#and being okay with dropping things if im not enjoying myself#it really does save a lot of time#overviews#general

Thelreads, MHA 287, Replies Part 1
1) “Alright, no excuses today, we have an objective, and by god, are we gonna see it through. It’s time for our liveblog of course, time to get some answers after… that last chapter… jesus there’s a lot that we need to know, and I’m afraid of the possibility of not getting to know it. “- To be fair, not even AFO truly seems to get the full logistics of this weird inner world, despite all the years alive he’s spent studying it and its effects. His dialogue indicates a lot of guesswork and speculation about why things happen they way they do inside the place, and it’s implied a good deal of his partnership with Garaki is born from his need for a mad scientist to try and help dissect this semi-magical effect. He’s got a lot more insight than Izuku and the rest, who only recently developed this ability, but at the same time, not even he truly knows if this is something unique to their Quirks in particular, or if their shared ability uniquely allows them to interact with this aspect of Quirks. That said, his understanding is more than sufficient to proceed with his plan… 2) “YEAH EXACTLY WHERE WE LAST LEFT
GHOST NANA READY TO THROW HANDS WITH AFO, WHILE MIDORIYA AND SHIGARAKI JUST WATCH
THIS IS GONNA BE BRUTAL, I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE IT”- Well, more like “Throwing Feelings”, but yeah. Physical attacks don’t exactly compute well in a world of souls, but attacks made of pure emotion are a different matter. The more potent the emotion, the more powerful the attack…. 3) “Now I do wonder where all that wind is coming from, Midoriya did you forgot a window open in your soul or something”- AFO the Quirk and the person is a metaphorical black hole, sucking in everything towards it to be consumed and assimilated. Even if he wasn’t mid-absorption attempt on Izuku’s body outside, I’m pretty sure the all-consuming darkness would be a prevalent theme throughout AFO’s own mental world. 4) “Oh ho ho, here we go… And I always am baffled by the idea that Shigaraki really just doesn’t give a shit that everything that bad that happened to his family can be traced back to the fact AfO killed his grandmother.
…
I once again can’t remember if he does know about that fact or not. Well I suppose that if he doesn’t, he’s about to find out.”- Tomura knows for sure, but by this point, as much as he’s “evolved” into a being of higher power, he’s mentally “devolved” as well – his mentality becoming reduced and focused on his simplest and purest desire, focused only upon that and blotting out any excess thoughts or feelings that might distract him from it. To this end, even knowing the truth of his family’s past tragedy doesn’t change a thing- he’s still so focused on his pain and hate as fuel to destroy and make himself feel better in the now that his attitude towards her doesn’t change- or his attitude towards AFO for that matter. They’re both on the shit list, alongside the rest of existence besides the League and his followers. It’s a catch 22 situation, wherein even if some part of him is sympathetic and should be redeemed, the rest of him has been so groomed into a monster of pure destructive Id that he dismisses this and any attempts to potentially emphasise with him as unwanted pity, being little less than a purified ball of emotional destruction….because AO always planned on his mind being the one in the pilot’s seat guiding that emotion. 5) “Oh sorry potatoman I interrupted your explanation, please enlighten us in the ways of quirk science and how you’re a soul stealer”- AFO consumes everything about a person when he steal their Quirk. Their hopes, their dreams, their futures, and now, he even steals a piece of their soul. Combined with the fact he somehow survived being dead and all the framing of him being this thing that’s leeching off Tomura and literally consuming him, can we even say that AFO counts as a human anymore? Or has his endless parasitism of others devolved him into something less than humanity, as much as it feeds off it to survive? 6) “okay so it is kinda like that, but I was wrong in calling it a piece of their soul. It’s more like it’s a copy of their entire soul, stored into their DNA.”- “Quirk” was actually a lucky translation by the English translators. The original Japanese uses the term “Individuality”, and here we see that one;s Quirk literally becomes a reflection of the wielder, shaped by their individuality into a copy of themselves. 7) “HOLY SHIT YEAH EXACTLY THAT
HE REMEMBER IT
OH MY GOD
HERE WE GO, TIME FOR THE HEEL-FACE TURN TO GET ITS FIRST SPARK”- Yeeeeah…..nope, sorry. Horikoshi putting the nail In that coffin. It’ll take more than realising that his Grandma was technically trying to save her family from his master’s manipulations to convince Tomura to stop being a villain. As much as it would be nice to see good wining out over evil, Tomura’s a fascinating example of how far you can take a person before they reach the point of becoming truly irredeemable, like AFO. He’s not as bad as his master, but at the same time, he has no intentions of choosing a different path now, because that would just invalidate all that he and his allies have been through. 8) “There’s that thing I also talked about their quirks being similar, but in opposite directions. AfO steal people’s souls and drag them to do his bidding, OfA invites them to join him in their journey.”- AFO is parasitic. OFA is symbiotic, and thus, once true cooperation is achieved, stronger than even AFO’s monopolisation of unwilling accumulated powers. 9) “Well, we would, but unfortunately you never seem to shut up. God, someone there likes the sound of their own voice.”- The one true power of AFO’s that actually seems to be his own and not stolen from another is the ability to trash-talk his opponents to the breaking point, no matter what the circumstances or who they are. He’s a fun character to read, because every word out of his mouth builds the urge to punch him in the face more. 10) “Yeah okay it seems like he hasn’t connected the dots. Give him some time, hopefully he’ll realize it.”- Oh, he connected all the dots. It’s just, he doesn’t care. To him, the past means nothing anymore, only the future, and the future is nothing but destruction that will be delivered unto everybody for the suffering he’s endured in the past. It’s contradictory, but Tomura is now a walking contradiction, a boy who both does and does not want to be saved from his torment. 11) “AND SO THE BATTLE IN THE MINDSCAPE BEGINS IT SEEMS
I DO HOPE THIS IS NOT LIKE, LITERALLY INSIDE MIDORIYA’S SOUL, OTHERWISE A GOOD CHUNK OF IT IS ABOUT TO TURN INTO DUST”- This raises the disturbing question of what would happen to Izuku if they actually succeeded in absorbing OFA. AFO just wants the part of the Quirk that houses his brother, so would Izuku’s very soul be destroyed as collateral when it was sucked in?
12) “Yeah Midoriya, it sure is. Hopefully you didn’t need that part right there of your soul, where you stored your memories of your father. They aren’t that useful after all.”- It’s fine, OFA has 9 different people’s worth of soul RAM space to work with, it can afford to lose a little in this clash. 13) “OH HOLY SHIT, SHIGARAKI IS STRONG ENOUGH TO OVERPOWER MIDORIYA’S WILL AND DAMAGE THIS MINDREALM
YOU KNOW, I THINK THAT MEANS THAT HE COULD THEORETICALLY STEAL THIS QUIRK, BECAUSE BEING HONEST, HE SEEMS OP ENOUGH TO DO IT”- And so the scope of AFO’s plans becomes clear. Manipulate Tomura into becoming nothing less than a near-mindless, relentlessly-driven container of pure hatred, tricking him into accepting his Quirk and the dangerous surgeries needed to fully contain its immense powers all at once immediately, whilst neglecting to tell him that his own will and individuality will be carried along with said Quirk, and can then jump in once Tomura’s done all the hard work to reap the benefits, especially including the strength needed to steal OFA at last. Tomura’s not his successor, he’s his Vessel. (MHA ch 274) 14) “Oh no, seems like there`s someone else sitting in the co-pilot seat, and he seems to be set in a single purpose… Which is a bit weird, because AfO know that he can`t steal OfA”- As it turns out, He can’t. But Tomura, on the other hand, now he’s an entirely different matter… (MHA ch 274) 15) “Okaaaay… You know, I just realized something. We already saw that pulsating thought inside of Shigaraki once before”- The words of AFO’s commands that Tomura is being compelled to follow, sitting in the centre of his bubbling hatred for everything, like a twisted parasite that’s monopolising it for its own gain. AFO needs Tomura’s hatred to succeed in his goals, and this panel now shows how he’s taken root within his very soul – All According to Plan. (MHA ch 275) 16) “Bait boy and his sidekick, explosi-boom-man, are on the scene again, trying to lure The Walking Death himself away from the civilians, and as we know, the plan is going to work, which means we`ll reduce the number of victims from a few hundreds to just a few kids.”- AFO’s utter obsession with OFA is so much, that he actually winds up helping the heroes here. He induces Tomura to steal it before anything else, even killing the heroes attacking him, and that in turn allows Tomura’s rampage to be corralled and somewhat predictable, unlike the omnipresent force of destruction he wants to be. (MHA ch 276) 17) “Well, I mean, he can`t, we know that much. The only way he could ever get it was if Midoriya gave it to him, and I don`t know if he can handle the kickback from it all, even with his upgrades.”-Turns out that was a supposition based on the ability to resist AFO’s willpower that drives the absorption. OFA’s main power is that it gives the unique ability to resist the absorption, but that’s based on being able to utilise your own willpower as a foundation to prevent the Quirk being stolen. Theoretically, if other Quirks had the same trait, they could likewise resist it too. AFO’s counter to this is simply applying the same tactic in reverse, using a strong will to increase his absorption and overcome their resistance when he himself can’t do it alone… albeit, the method he chose is a fittingly twisted variant on getting Tomura’s “aid” in stealing OFA. (MHA ch 277) 18) “Okay Shigaraki, but then what?
You have AfO in there, you should know that his quirk cannot be stolen, and I really doubt you can convince him to give him to you
It would be easier to just kill him and eliminate the one thing that can oppose you, because other than that, grabbing him won’t accomplish much”- Thing is, Tomura totally agrees with you. That isn’t his dialogue that’s being spoken, it’s AFO’s thoughts bleeding into his head, his desire for OFA overriding Tomura’s attempts to focus on the fight and just kill everybody, including Izuku. If Tomura had a say in thing, he would just kill Izuku here and now, but his master doesn’t want that. He wants OFA first and foremost, no compromises, even at the expense of pragmatically killing his most dangerous adversary.
(MHA ch 277)
19) “Yeah, but again, how are you planning that?
I think you misread the title of the chapter Shigaraki, we’re supposed to be dealing with the who, not the how”- Ironically, the “how” is answered by the “who”. AFO could never steal OFA, that was a given, but Tomura’s an entirely unknown variable in the decades-long power struggle, one strong enough to tip the balance in AFO’s favour all on his own, even matched against the willpower of 9 other holders at once.
(MHA ch 285) 20) “I think you mean the other way around Bakugo, Shigaraki can’t still his quirk if he is turned to dust, he needs to do that after stealing it, and even though I was painfully reminded of the fact I completely misinterpreted it, I still believe that AfO can’t steal OfA.”- Well, that’s only half true, as it turns out. AFO the person can’t steal OFA, but with Tomura as a living hate battery, that defence is no longer an option against AFO the Quirk. Tomura’s been moulded for this purpose since he first met AFO, and as we see here, it wasn’t a wasted effort.
21) “Oh ho ho, there he is, the first one, the founder.
And as usual, remarkably similar to Shigaraki in looks.”- So, to clarify, AFO’s plan to defeat OFA boils down to grooming Tomura into becoming both hateful enough to steal the Quirk whilst also being moulded in his brother’s image, intending to body-jack him at the same time he’s stealing the Quirk with the attached piece of his brother’s soul, effectively becoming his brother in body and soul together in order to “make him his”….I might be wrong, but I’m getting the sneaking suspicion that AFO has some severe attachment issues. @thelreads

Thelreads, MHA 254, Replies Part 2
1) “Fuck`s sake mic, call his parents here? You crazy or something? You want them to have to suffer with this knowledge?”- More than anything, I think that was the tipping point for Aizawa. It’s bad enough he had to suffer with this harsh truth, but he couldn’t stand the thought of passing it onto other people who’ve spent years mourning Shirakumo’s passing and giving them new torments for the remainder of their lives. Better for the suffering to end with him than them. That said, it also shows how seriously the police and the heroes are trying to stop All For One’s plans, that they’re genuinely considering re-traumatising Kumo’s parents in the hopes it could provide a vital clue to unearth what machinations he’s left working in the shadows whilst he’s locked up.
2) “At least Aizawa agrees with me, there`s no need to make his parents have to mourn a second time.”- I wonder if Aizawa’s experiences with raising Eri, aware of what painful things were done to her and doing his best to counterbalance that with a lifetime of good memories for her going forward, wasn’t also a factor in him wording it like that.
3) “And as expected, he doesn`t remember anything about them for now, but with the power of
nope, no jokes allowed, only pain.”- Given the implications at chapter’s end that Aizawa’s appeal is managing to work on Kurogiri somewhat, even with the risk of reminding him of the hellish truth of his existence and the fact that he’s technically dead, it could really be said we’re breaking through his brainwashing with the power of pain and trauma.
4) “Well, and the first thing he asked about was if Shigaraki was okay. He was rewired like that after all, that`s all he can think about at the moment.”- That, and that kind of base instinct was something so instinctual to Shirakumo that it gave AFO and Gakurai the perfect test subject to make a incredibly devoted and loyal career for Tomura out of. Makes you wonder how Kumo would have been if he’s become a teacher, huh? 5) “Mic, can you kindly shut up? We`re trying to do an interrogation here, and Aizawa seems to have an idea where he wants to get to with this line of questions, let him do his work.”- How fitting that the man with the sight-based quirk that nullifies powers, and thus logically should expel the smoke quirk around his friend’s body, literally cannot see through the lies that mask his old friend’s appearance until he sits down and talks to Kurogiri face to face. Given how well their particular abilities now counter and affect each other, you can see the Irony in their situation even more, that Kurogiri’s unique body type means he can probably best counter Aizawa’s quirk more than anybody, to the point that Aizawa made sure his power was affecting him before he woke up to avoid any chance of him escaping.
6) “Oh? What was that Mic? what was that reaction Mic? What did you realized that you immediately looked at Aizawa?”- He’s realised that looking after a ‘gloomy brat’ all day long was exactly what he and Shirakumo used to do all the time for Aizawa himself, so despite his sincere denial, there is a piece of his old friend left underneath all that smog... And also gives new context to Tomura and Aizawa’s semi-antagonistic relationship, as despite Aizawa having nothing but contempt for the teenage villain, Aizawa seems to be the only hero Tomura has some sincere respect for, despite hating absolutely everything else about hero society and heroes in particular. I guess maybe if he’d become a hero, Tomura would have grown up to Idolise Aizawa, like Izuku did for All Might and no:6 did for O’Clock.
7) “Ah, right, the interrogation. They are trying to get some reaction out of Shi- of Kurogiri, but there`s nothing there. The shell is empty of its original contents, a new resident inhabits it now.”- New, perhaps, but so completely different to his original self? Not as much as he’d like to have you believe. 8) “Oh, some flashbacks, but unfortunately it`s not Kurogiri the one having them, its Aizawa. All that dam holding back his past is now crashing down.”- In some ways, Aizawa never exactly properly processed the grief and loss he felt with kumo’s passing. Having the chance to talk to him again, even if it’s not really ‘him’ behind the wheel, is bringing back all the old painful memories, starting with their childhood and leading up to their current situation, reviewing it all and wondering how they both turned out this way. What twist of fate lead Kumo to become the monster’s servant and Aizawa to become the teacher of the future his friend always aspired to be?
9) “Alright, almost it. It was about how he`s the one that pulled Aizawa kicking and screaming and yelling into the path of true heroism, the inspiration behind his current self, and all the things he did for him before it all came crashing down on top of him”- If there’s one thing AFO loves to do, it’s warping the image of something that inspired you into a grotesque mockery of the original happy ‘dream’ self just to mock all that you’ve done in its name since and spit upon your concept of decency and heroism. He did the exact same thing to All Might through Nana Shimura’s grandson, and he’s done it again here. Sure, Kumo’s death was a happy accident for him and he wasn’t planning on mocking Aizawa specifically when he mutilated his friend’s corpse for his own purposes, unlike his aims for Yagi, but twisting a hero hopeful into a villainous servant for his plans was something that put a smile on his face alright.
10) “Pipe down the sass Kurogiri, or we`re gonna bring an industrial fan and splatter you onto the walls. Let Aizawa do his confession, god knows he bottled this up for way too long.”- I wonder how much of him would blow away and how much of his solid ‘core’ would remain behind if we did that. We saw a little before in USJ that he can be affected by high winds, but his body was also partly through a smoky portal at the time, so it’s unclear how much of himself can be affected by air blasts.
11) “Why would you do that Aizawa? Huh? Why would you forgot to mention Midnight, Aizwa? You know that he had a small crush on her, Aizawa. Aizawa, you should have mentioned Midnight. I won`t forgive you for not mentioning Midnight, Aizawa.”- I guess her and her sex appeal was plan B if Aizawa and Mic failed to get through to him, but on the other hand, maybe the two of them don’t want to involve her in this situation at all. It’s bad enough they have to go through it, they probably want to keep Midnight in the dark about Kumo’s true fate to the best of their ability. Though thinking about it, that moment in USJ when the teachers turned up to bail out All Might from Tomura’s last attack was an unknown reunion of the quartet in hindsight.
12) “……..?
excuse me, I think my meds are kicking in, I think I imagined the chapter implying that Aizawa never expelled a single student, and its all a facade to make he seem strict and unforgiving, and I do hope its the meds making me imagine that, or I`ll be really pissed.”- Ok, whilst this does defang Aizawa’s threats to Midoria and the rest during that quirk aptitude test, it also actually explains how Aizawa had the authority to pull a stunt like that in the first place. Expelling a bunch of kids from a prodigious school like UA, based on his own personal opinions, not to mention an entire class of hero hopefuls, would actually hurt the school’s reputation a lot and lead to complaints agasitn them from the families of the affected, especially considering the large numbers of students aiming to get into UA that have to be discarded to make the 20-student classes. The world of MHA is one where actions often have realistic consequences, to the point that the repeated attacks on the students lead to increased scrutiny and criticism of UA’s ability to actually protect its students and doubts about its ability to provide a decent education for them, Aizawa arbitrarily expelling student who didn’t match up to his high stands would have negatively affected the school as the number one place to learn how to be a hero, so there clearly had to be a catch to explain how he was allowed to get away with it all. And whilst he has the ability to choose to re-enroll them in the hero course, that actually isn’t a guarantee that he always will or did with prior students who really weren’t ready to be heroes yet. Given Aizawa was unaware of Izuku’s issues with OFA, him singling him out of the class as the likeliest to get expelled was Aizawa thinking he was giving Izuku more time to train and prepare himself to better use his quirk as a hero in the field, pointing out how his current usage was short-sighted as a means of highlighting how he should do better next time- he genuinely wasn’t expected Izuku to improvise a solution on the spot despite his poor quirk handling, allowing him to see that Izuku could rapidly improve himself with the right guidance without needing to be expelled. He was flawed in his perception of Izuku, and that in turn was corrected for him by his future student’s willpower and ingenuity, to the point he’s had high expectations of Izuku’s career as a hero ever since, rule breaking and self-mutilation aside. And frankly, from what we’ve seen, Izuku getting more time to train with OFA really would have been nothing but beneficial to him. And it should be noted, just because he doesn’t actually expel them, doesn’t mean the black mark isn’t left behind on their permanent records forever because of it. In an education-driven environment like Japan, something like that will make things like getting a good high-paying job much harder for them. 13) “OH THE TEARS GOT OUT
YOU BEEN HOLDING THAT FOR QUITE SOME TIME, HAVEN`T YOU AIZAWA?
THAT`S ALRIGHT, LET THEM FLOW, THAT ALSO WILL HELP MOIST YOUR EYES AND KEEP YOUR QUIRK ACTIVE FOR LONGER”- Behold, the real reason Aizawa activated his Quirk when dealing with Kurogiri.
